Y vas a enfrentarte y tu matrimonio va a exponer muchas enfermedades emocionales
And yet, that would have been the easiest, the most difficult thing afterwards, because Jacob, no matter how much he knew God, Jacob is still Jacob. And God has to kill everything that is not of Christ in Jacob, among which is his way of facing the conflicts in life. And we are going to read chapter 31 to see how God did that. I always give you the three scenes of how I read this text, so that if you are taking notes, you can write them down. If you want to continue studying this passage, you can do so, if you want, based on my notes. The first scene is like this, or the first moment. I put it, used to fleeing.
That's what happens in the first verses. Jacob is used to living, fleeing, even as he faces the difficulty. That's what he learned, and that's what he continues to do, even though he already knew God. The second moment of Jacob is frozen by manipulation. He was in relationships that manipulated him, and he didn't know how to respond. Maybe he thought that the best thing was to remain silent, lower his head, and continue assisting the manipulator. Although Christ is going to teach him, through life, that this is not what Christ wants for the followers of Christ. And the last, the third moment, is healed to speak what? Healed to speak what? The truth. That thing you saw that in Hispanic families is not spoken? Truth. By the way, that's what sets you free. God is in the process of breaking you so that you start speaking the truth. I want you to accompany me on this journey. Maybe you'll find yourself in Jacob's shoes. You'll say it yourself, and the Holy Spirit will be in charge of telling you. Look at the first scene, which I called it, used to hearing. Look at what happens. The text says, Then Jacob learned that the children of Laban were complaining about him, and they said, Jacob stole everything from our father. He achieved all his wealth at the expense of our father. And Jacob began to notice a change in the attitude of his father-in-law, in the attitude of Laban towards him. Then the Lord said to Jacob, Return to the land of your father, your grandfather, and your relatives there,
and I will be with you. Verse 4 Then Jacob sent Raquel and Alea, his wives, to the field where he took care of the flock, and he said to them, I notice a change in the attitude of your father towards me, but the God of my father has been with me. You know how hard I worked for your father. However, he has swindled me by changing my salary. How many times? Ten times. But God has not allowed him to do me any harm. Then I continue, I skip a little the verses. And God said to me, Get ready, leave this country and return to the land where you were born. And Raquel and Alea replied, For our part, it is fine. In any case, we will not inherit any of the riches of our father. Verse 17 Then Jacob made his wives and children ride the camels. Verse 19 At the time of departure, Laban was far away shearing his sheep. So Raquel stole the idols of her father's family and took them with her. Jacob was smarter than Laban the Aramean, because they went out in secret and never told him they were leaving. That's it. Let me tell you a little bit about my words, what is happening in this first scene. Things in the family were heating up. A melting pot. They were hot.
They were bad. And here it says that they were bad for two reasons. First, the cousins, the cousins of Jacob, began to complain. And seeing how Jacob was doing well with the sheep, they assumed that Jacob was stealing from whom? From their father, Laban. This was obviously a lie. The Bible tells you that it was God who had enriched Jacob. However, the cousins had already broken their trust. And all they saw in Jacob was this guy. This guy, if he's doing well, it's because he's what? Because he's stealing. I don't know if it ever happened to you that someone broke your trust, or you felt that someone broke your trust, and the moment that happened, you put on some glasses. And everything you see of the other person, you interpret it as something to destroy you. Everything. His way of speaking, his way of standing, his clothing, even his way of breathing. The way this bastard breathes is different. It's probably to hurt me. Robar H2O. No, no, para, eso es agua. Bueno, no importa, sigamos. Estudié teología, no biología, no chemistry. Sigamos.
Yo no soy ningún tonto.
Escuchame bien. ¿Te tengo conmigo todavía sí o no? Ese no era el Jacob de antes. Listen up.
OK, listen up.
Estamos acá, me dicen. Great, sobreviviste. Escapar, escapar, escapar.
But he doesn't care, as long as he does a little bit of Benjamin Franklin. Well, the thing is that he confronts Jacob, and you see such blindness in Laban. I mean, it makes you laugh a little. I read it to you as I think it should be read. Because Laban is the typical manipulator that you say, Bro, you either do it, or you were born like this, or you really practiced it before coming, bro. I can't believe you're telling me. But look at what he says to him. What do you mean by deceiving me? Do you mean to deceive me? Laban has been deceiving him. All his life he has been deceiving him, and now he is the offended one. How can they deceive me? Then he goes on a little more. ¿Cómo te atreves a llevarte a qué? ¿A mis hijas? It can be seen that Laban, as a father-in-law, never understood
that once he gave up his daughters to get married, his sphere of authority ended with his daughters. But it seems that Laban never liked the idea that someone would take away his authority over anyone, and he said, ¿Son qué? Mis hijas. And you took them. Go on.
At the end of the day, we are all human beings. But we rarely talk about those who are manipulable and manipulated by other people. And all language is about guilt and things you didn't do right.
Obviously, Jacob lowers his head, lets the van control the situation, freezes. And I think Jacob is in a moment where he says, maybe the van is right. Maybe it's true. I should never have left. Maybe it's true. He should have prepared the party. Maybe when he prepares the party, everything goes wrong. But maybe he's right because he always was. And you go on like this from a young age. I can tell you something in the name of Jesus. Maybe you're here saying, but that's the answer someone who follows Christ should have. Because I didn't say anything rude. I'm quiet and letting go. I don't want problems. I don't want problems with people. If I have to apologize, I'm going to apologize. Even if it's not true, that's not following Christ. That's not the truth. The spirit of Christ... Is there anyone with me this morning? The spirit of Christ is a true spirit. It's not a spirit of manipulation, nor is it a spirit of victimization. The spirit of Christ is a true spirit that doesn't freeze. And manipulation trains you to be quiet when you know something is wrong. But you prefer not to have problems and not face the truth. That's not following Christ. And God has to deal with that with Jacob. You can't.
It's true, you're running away. But the only alternative is not to be tied under the tyranny of people who make themselves feel the victims around you all the time. That's not Christianity. So what is it? That's what I have left. And that leaves me in the third moment of Jacob. He is healed to speak the truth. Tell me the truth. Say the truth again. That's what Christ saved you for. The truth. Says the text in verse 36. So Jacob got very angry and challenged Laban. What is my crime? He asked. What wrong have I done for you to pursue me as if I were a criminal? Verse 40. I worked for you under the suffocating heat of the day and in the cold of the night without sleeping. Yes, for twenty years I worked as a slave in your house. I worked fourteen years to win your daughters and then six more years for your flock and you changed my salary ten times. Actually, if the God of my father had not been on my side, the God of Abraham and the fearful God Isaac, you would have fired me with empty hands. But God, I want you to say, but God. But God has seen your abuse and my hard work. That is why he appeared to you last night and reprimanded you.
Look at me. When you read here that it says, Jacob got angry. Do you think that is a sin? Tell me. Did they teach you that in the church? Did they teach you that in the Christian or Catholic church? That getting angry is a sin? Getting angry is a gift from God to stop what is not right. And finally, when Jacob gets angry, it is a sign that God is healing his heart. Because he is not escaping anymore. He is not frozen by manipulation. Now he is facing the truth. Can someone say amen to this? I'm fired up here. God gave the gift of anger to Jacob to say, bro, this is not okay. I can't go on like this without telling the truth because I'm afraid of the repercussions or because I'm afraid that you won't change your opinion about me. That's not my calling. And he says, it's time to tell the truth without shouting, without beating. And Jacob says, I know what I've done. I've worked. What you say is that I deceived you. What you say is that I wasn't a good son-in-law. That's not true. I worked.
For years and years and years. And if it hadn't been God, I don't say this, this is the most beautiful thing in the whole text. If it hadn't been God, I would still be frozen by manipulation. But God took me out of that poisonous bond. And made me free and healthy to say, look into your eyes, and without hitting and without shouting, say what? The truth. The truth. God has seen your abuse and that's why he appeared to you last night. Nick, you can come in now. Jacob doesn't need to be the old Jacob anymore. He doesn't need to keep running away, and escaping, and hiding, avoiding the truth. always, because he doesn't want problems at home. Jacob doesn't need to shut up either when he knows something is a lie and he's being tied up, threatened, always. I forgive you, I could leave, but God told me to forgive you. That's manipulation. It's the same thing that Jacob is doing. I could kill you, but I don't kill you because God told me not to kill you, right? I'm going to threaten people with the Bible. Jacob says, I'm not afraid, I'm not going to live under this tyranny, I'm going to tell the truth.
God is my defender and I can heal to tell the truth. Can someone say amen to that or not? I want you to stand up. We're going to finish singing. I want you to close your eyes where you are. I want you to close your eyes. The first day you met Christ, God transformed you. God changed your destiny because you received forgiveness. Christ died and rose again and changed your eternal destiny, but your wounds didn't heal automatically. And your ways and manners when conflicts occur in your family, in your church, in your work. And the only way to heal is to be honest with yourself, saying, I am Jacob in his first moment. I have learned to escape and avoid conflict all my life and it helped me survive, but right now nothing in me can mature. My relationship with God can't mature because I'm still escaping, I'm afraid of conflict. Maybe you're here this morning, still with your eyes closed, saying, no, no, I'm not the one who runs away, I'm the one who prefers to stay quiet and say, I'm just going to take the easy route here. I'm the one who stays silent when I know something isn't true, when I know someone is supporting me with the chains of threats. And I always thought that living under the manipulation of someone else was what Christ called me to do. I always thought I had to ask for forgiveness all the time and for everything, because only then would I be able to do things in peace. And today the Holy Spirit is telling you, that's not the way, neither of us. Jesus died on the cross to forgive your sins, and he did, but he also died to heal your diseases. And the disease of the heart that doesn't allow you to speak the truth is the one for which Christ died.
Christ died to destroy that disease that you have in your mind and in your heart. And to be healthy, and to learn in the Holy Spirit, without hitting things, without shouting, and without exploiting your ego, to say, God himself is the one who taught me to heal, to look at your face, to look at you face to face, and say the truth, because the truth is the one that makes us free. And maybe you're here, and you've been avoiding, deal with this, you've been avoiding facing the conflict. And today I come to tell you in the name of Jesus, God put you where you are, so that you learn to heal from the wounds that you brought before knowing Jesus. The only way you have to heal, and learn to speak the truth, is to be confronted like a mirror, with the difficulty, and with the clash, with the roughness, with the problems. The only way you have to heal is to be confronted like a mirror, with the difficulty, with the clash, with the roughness, with the clash, with the clash, with the problems. I'm going to pray and we will sing. If God gave you a word, if you are saying God spoke to me, not my partner, not my partner, to me. I want you to come forward and let yourself minister and bless for someone else. In the name of Jesus, Holy Spirit, move, and the truth of your word, the truth of your word, I ask you to enter the heart, touch the disease that has to be touched, and bring health and bring truth where it was not. And even if there are people, Holy Spirit, who have not known Christ this morning, and who still do not know if they are saved or not, I ask you to call them by name today, and let them know that Christ died and resurrected to forgive their sins and bring them to a life, not of flight, not of freezing, but of truth.
In the name of Jesus. And we all say, Amen.
