Coming to Life: Matthew

Living under Roman rule in Israel 2,000 years ago, the Jewish people faced harsh oppression, religious persecution, and heavy taxation. Clinging to God’s promises despite 400 years of silence, they awaited a Messiah to deliver them from Roman tyranny. However, when Jesus arrived, He brought a different kind of kingdom than they expected—a spiritual kingdom rather than a political one.

Matthew, a former tax collector, wrote his gospel to show his fellow Jews that Jesus was indeed the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies. Through careful genealogy, direct references, and unique stories, Matthew demonstrated Jesus’ divine lineage and His role as the promised Messiah. His gospel serves as a bridge between the Old and New Testaments, emphasizing the continuity of God’s plan through Jesus’ life and teachings.
