Coming to Life: Luke

The book of Luke, the third and final synoptic gospel, is written by Luke, a well-educated doctor who also authored the book of Acts. Though he never met Jesus personally, Luke used his investigative skills and various sources to compile an orderly and detailed account of Jesus’ life. Written around 60 AD, Luke’s gospel emphasizes Jesus’ mission to offer forgiveness to all people and highlights His interactions with marginalized groups.

Luke begins with unique details such as the births of John the Baptist and Jesus, which are not covered in other gospels. It includes distinctive stories like Jesus’ childhood visit to the temple and several miracles and parables, including the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son. The book concludes with Jesus’ ascension, setting the stage for Acts. Luke’s narrative stands out for its focus on Jesus’ compassion and the inclusiveness of His message, reminding readers of His sacrificial love for everyone.
