And this is a reality that the word teaches us and speaks to us about this. And that's why the apostle Peter writes to a group of Christians who are living in persecution, who are in constant stress because the authorities, the people around them, are always oppressing them. And the apostle Peter wants to give them some truths about what it means to be in a spiritual battle. And I want you to come with me if you have your Bible. I'm going to ask you to open it. In the first letter of the apostle Peter, in chapter 5, and we're only going to read a couple of verses, 8 and 9. As I was saying, in those days, the church, the believers in Christ, were persecuted. And they were thrown into the lion's den, they couldn't work, they weren't allowed to work, they weren't allowed to do shopping to meet their needs. And when a person is in a situation like that, they can easily get discouraged. And they can take an attitude against certain people,

as if they were the biggest enemy. And that's why Peter writes to these people, before finishing his letter, that they need to be aware of this battle that is taking place day by day. And the Lord's Word says, Be on your guard. Beware of your great enemy, the devil, for he walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Be firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers around the world is also going through the same suffering. Peter declares some truths here that I would like to share about this attack that the church constantly suffers. It's a satanic attack. It sounds strong, it's a strong word, maybe, but it's a reality. It's a truth that the church constantly, if you have decided, brother, let me tell you something, if you have decided to give your life to Christ, automatically you declared war on the enemy. Automatically. He doesn't want you to be a follower of Christ. He doesn't want you to look like Christ. He wants to stop you. And that's why the apostle Peter declares these truths, and I would like to share with you some of them. The first truth is that the believer must live alert and recognize the reality of the enemy. who is against me is my enemy, that he is rising up against me. But the truth is that behind his actions, there is a greater enemy. That's why Peter says to them, you must be alert. Do we recognize our weaknesses or do we try to cover them? Because that is another of the tricks of the enemy, who always looks for the one who is alone, the one who is weak. Lewis said, there are two totally dangerous mistakes, equally dangerous, regarding demons. Not believing in them, your enemy, or being excessively interested in him. We must be aware that we have an enemy and we have to identify how that enemy operates. And that is why Peter tells us this second truth. He says that the believer must understand how he operates and identify the strategies of the enemy. He says that he is like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. He uses this image of a lion, but he does not say that he is a lion. He is not a lion. He uses, tries to imitate the real lion, which is Jesus. The Apocalypse declares it. Jesus is the real lion of the tribe of Judah. Satan is going to try to imitate him.

One of the strategies is the use of fear. To create fear in our lives. To create fear. What can we be afraid of? What will they say? Of being alone? Of rejection? And let me tell you, that sometimes it will happen. Things will happen, that we may not understand why they are happening. But the truth is that the Lord will always be with you. Esa es una realidad también que tu enemigo no puede leer tus pensamientos. Puede atacar tu mente, pero no lo lee. El único que puede leer tus pensamientos es el Señor y tú mismo. Pero Jesús mostró una debilidad, mostró hambre. Satanás va a atacar tus reacciones. Te va a poner pruebas, te va a poner trabas. Y dependiendo de cómo reaccionemos, va a venir el ataque. ¿Y qué es lo que hace Satanás con Jesús?

Ahí donde tú eres débil, ahí yo me perfecciono mi obra en ti. Pero es necesario que nosotros reconozcamos también eso. Nuestro enemigo va a estar como león, buscando el punto débil para atacarnos y devorarnos. Ahora el enemigo, como lo presenta Pedro, no es una forma, digamos, de caricatura. Peter's instruction is to remain firm against him and to be strong in your faith. He doesn't say that we should persecute him, that we should argue with him, that we should look for him to kick him out, to defeat him. No, the instruction is to remain firm. Resist. And this is where it begins, where we find the key to victory. Resist the enemy. And the resistance to the enemy begins with your total and absolute surrender to Christ Jesus. There is no other way. There is no other way for us to resist with our total surrender to the Lord. If we, as the pastor said a moment ago, if we want to fight our battles with our strength, we will be cut to pieces. We will be finished. There is no way that you and I can face an enemy who knows the Bible much better, even the Bible, better than you and me. He has been doing this for many years. But I have good news for you.

He has been defeated on the cross of Calvary. And from there is where we can resist, going to the presence of the Lord. There is no way that we can resist the attack of the enemy in our strength, in our intellect, in our wisdom. There is no way. He will want to envelop us. He will show us things to attract us. We have King David, a king who says the word, a man who had the heart according to God, a man chosen by God, anointed to be king of the people chosen by the Lord. But the Lord tells you, you have an army around you, willing to fight with you. And that is why the word insists so many times that we must be united. That we are a body.
