WHEN YOU’RE IN A STORM YOU BETTER KNOW WHICH BOAT YOU’RE ON - Tim Dilena
Storms are inevitable. But the direction of your life matters when they come. In this message, Pastor Tim Dilena compares two very different storms in Scripture: Jonah running from God and the disciples following Jesus. Both faced wind and waves, but one storm was calling someone back from disobedience while the other was revealing more of who Jesus is. Sometimes we ask God to make life easier when He is actually trying to change our direction. Sometimes we need a miracle. Sometimes we need to turn around. And sometimes the real question is not, “How do I get out of this storm?” but, “Am I going where God asked me to go?” Through Scripture, personal stories, and an honest invitation to surrender, this message challenges us to let Jesus correct the places where our lives have begun to lean away from Him. The same Holy Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is able to bring transformation, freedom, courage, and new direction to your life.
But the boat you're on in that storm, that's optional. When you're going through those storms and I'm telling you this is going to be very coming in and you better be on the right boat when those storms hit and there's only one captain I want at the helm. We sang about him a whole bunch of times. His name is Jesus and so we want to believe that. I want to talk to you about when you're in a storm you better know which boat you're on. Let's believe for it right now. It's either going to be Jonas or Jesus. I choose Jesus. Father, come in such a special way today. Thank you. We sent your presence. We sent you're going to do something and we pray that by the Holy Spirit come to this place today. Thank you for your presence that we sense. I pray that God once again you are not only not no respecter of persons but distance doesn't affect you. You will move right here at 51st and Broadway. You'll go into kitchens and dining rooms and living rooms. Father in Lima and London you'll move Lord God in Miami and you'll move in Los Angeles. Move in Dallas and in Bangor, Maine. Move Lord God in Canada. Move down in Venezuela. Pour out your Holy Spirit. We thank you and we bless you in Jesus' name. And everybody said amen. God bless you. You may be seated. Thank you worship team. Thank you choir. It all started with a walk with my wife this last week. We started talking about battles and storms not only the ones that we have gone through. But we started to talk about people that we have known and are presently going through some of the probably the most difficult times in their life. They're going through the struggles and the storms and the crisis. And then we started to pray. We started to realize as we started as we are asking ourselves how do we start to pray for them. How do we begin to ask God to come in and then we realize that some that we are praying for are really with walking with Jesus on his boat. And there are others that are on Jonah's boat that that that would affect how we pray for them. How do we pray for those that are in a storm? We came up with this. You either ask God for a fish or you ask God for a miracle because this is going to be important. Stay with me for just a moment because it all depends on which boat you're on when you begin to pray for miracle and fish. If you're with Jesus you will get a storm but you will get a miracle and then God gives you a revelation of who he is. But when you are in the wrong place because of disobedience, if you are with Jonah you get a storm, you get a big fish and then it's a repentance to change direction. How many want to be on the right boat when you're going through something here today? Those storms may look the same. The boat that you're on determines the destination.
It'll either be revelation or repentance. It'll either be God we see you like we've never seen you before or it'll be God. I am so sorry. My disobedience put me in the wrong direction. The Jesus boat shows you who God is. The Jonah boat will show you who you are. Let me read to you two passages of Scripture. Jonah 1 and Matthew 14. And I want you to see these two places. Jonah 1 starts with this. The Lord gave this message to Jonah, son of Amatai, get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, announce my judgment against it because I've seen how wicked its people are. But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Japa where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish. But the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea causing a violent storm. That storm was to get this man in the right direction. He chose to go opposite of what God was at the place that God was asking him to go to. And it wouldn't just be a storm, but he was going to have to get redirected by a fish that was going to begin to get him going in the right direction. We have people that we've known in our life that have found themselves through disobedience that have been in the wrong place. And in a storm, well, they're praying for a miracle. God's sending a fish. God's going to send them a fish to get them in the right direction. And this is where God begins to come in. I've watched people who have been in a storm because of their disobedience get a miracle and stay on the same boat. And I'm believing that God wants to do some redirection here. Listen to the Jesus boat ride. Matthew 14, immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side. Well, he sent the crowds away. And when it was evening, he was there alone. But the boat was already a long distance from land battered by the waves. For the wind was contrary. And then the fourth watch of the night,
he came to them walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified. So ghost, he cried out, but immediately Jesus spoke to them saying, take courage, it is I, do not be afraid. Peter said, Lord, if it's you, command me to walk to come to you on the water. And he said, come, Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. But seeing the wind, he became frightened. And beginning to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me. Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said, you of little faith. Why did you doubt? When he got into the boat, the wind stopped. Notice verse 33, and those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, you are certainly God's son. This was a revelation. They were in the boat because Jesus put them in that boat. And though Jesus puts you in a position, a place, don't ever think that those storms won't come, but when they do, you will know that he is God. He can control those winds, and he can control those waves. Let me talk to you just for a few moments today about those two boats. And some of you may need to switch boats today. You will have that opportunity. The Jesus boat in a revelation. Let me talk to you about that. Before I left for church to pray on Saturday, yesterday,
I received this text from Pastor Carter. Psalm 3 for you today, as the TSC reach grows, it is expected that voices will be raised up against it. The Lord will break the teeth of the ungodly, and the Lord will carry you and make your sleep sweet. That's all he wrote to me. I was getting ready to go. And what he was saying was, get ready for a storm to come. You can't touch the world without getting a storm. You can't begin to say, we're gonna put an LED wall for Times Square to respond to what is being seen every single day, 24/7, and we're wanting to show truth and Jesus and the love of God without getting a storm. So I just, I started, I said, I'm reading it right now. This is what I read, I wanna read it to you. This is what Pastor Carter, our General Lovers, he has sent. He said, oh Lord, I have so many enemies, so many are against me, so many are saying, God will never rescue him. But you, oh Lord, are a shield around me. You are my glory and the one who holds my head high. I cried out to the Lord and he answered me from his holy mountain. I laid down and wept, yet I woke up in safety for the Lord was watching over me. I am not afraid of 10,000 enemies who surround me on every side. Arise, oh Lord, rescue me. Slap all, I've been wanting to say this for a long time, but I'm gonna let the Bible say it.
Slap all my enemies in the faith and shatter the teeth of the wicked. Victory comes from you, oh Lord. May you bless your people, hallelujah. (congregation applauding) I texted Pastor Carter back. I said, this is serious. I said, this is a serious verse. And then I asked Pastor Carter if I can share this. And he said, absolutely. He said, let me tell you when God gave me this verse. He said, I claimed Psalm three. This is his writing. I didn't put it on the screen 'cause I didn't want you to take any pictures. I claimed Psalm three he wrote during a difficult time when someone I had trained in ministry turned against me and started rumors in the community about me and the church. And he said this, listen to this. He said, his dog ate his teeth, his dentures, his dog ate his dentures one night and he couldn't afford new ones. I met him on the street and couldn't understand a word he was saying because God took his teeth. God is good. That's what he wrote to me. (congregation applauding) That's what he wrote. It's telling you, you better watch out what you say.
You better watch out because God is not playing around. I'm just telling you. I remember when I was on that Jesus boat and started first pastoring, I remember the same thing happening. People rising up, families rising up. But I'll never forget it was happening in every place I've gone. And I asked Brother Dave Wilkerson, the founder of our church for help. And I said, what do I do when people attack? What do I do when people come against the church? I wanna read to you what he said to me. These are his words, I'll always remember them. He said, the church is a battleship. And those who attack it are on rowboats with pea shooters. He says, it's just bringing off the side, making some noise. The wake of the battleship will go right by it. I wouldn't want to be in their boat when it does. I'm just telling you, folks, the church is about it. it doesn't matter accusations, it doesn't matter rumors, it doesn't matter any of those things. If it's a storm, you are gonna get a miracle, and if it's a storm, you're gonna get a revelation of who Jesus is, hallelujah. There will be storms, but there will be revelations, and I need to be on the right boat. Matthew 14 is the disciples' second storm, and I wanna show you something here.
The story showed us the growth from the first storm to the second storm. Matthew 8 to Matthew 14 is going to be. Matthew 8 was their first storm, and Matthew 14 was what we just read. Let me read to you the first storm. When he got into the boat, his disciples followed him, and behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so the boat was being covered with the waves. But Jesus himself was asleep, and they came to him and woke him, saying, "Save us, Lord, we're perishing." And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, became perfectly calm. The men were amazed, now don't miss this, and said this, what kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him? Did you see what just happened? See, in the first storm, the disciples said, what kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him? In the second storm, they said, and those were in that boat, worshiped him and saying, you certainly are God's son. What started the growth that they went from asking questions to exclamation points, from, God, are you here, to you are God and you are with us? This is what happened in between these two storms.
Storm in chapter eight and storm in chapter 14. And what happened in between, they began to realize, God is on our side, God is with us. I wrote this down, when the first boat landed, after that first storm, when the first boat landed, it docked at a graveyard. They saw a demon named Legion confronted and defeated, and freedom come in the cemetery. Then right after that, a paralyzed man was healed. Then there was the calling of a tax collector, the worst of the worst, to be a disciple. A woman with an issue of blood got healed by simply touching his garments. A mute man spoke and was made free from a demon that stopped his speech. Two blind men received their sight when they asked for mercy. And then just before they got into the boat and storm number two, Jesus fed 5,000 people with one lunch. They grew from questioning Jesus to certainty to who Jesus was. They grew from that. Folks, I was talking to a pastor from the Midwest just on Friday, who was in a very difficult fight for him and his church. And he said the battles, pastor Tim, they keep coming and coming and coming. And I said, I don't think it was any accident. I was listening to an old pastor who just recently went to heaven. These were some of his final words
before his life and ministry were over. He said these words, and I told them to a young man, I said they encouraged me. He said, I live in the middle of providence in such a way that I can't wait to get up every morning and see God's plan unfold every day. He said, my history with God anchors my soul and gives me peace that every day I have seen God come through through the decades of ministry. What does that mean? This is what it means. If I've seen God do it before, God can do it again. That's what he was saying. So folks, I'm just telling you, I've been at this for 43 years and I'm telling you, I've woken up some mornings going what in the world is gonna happen. Not anymore. I wake up going, I've seen you do it before. I'm gonna see you do it again. God said, in order for me to get a certainty in your spirit, before I send you into the storm, you're gonna see demons get set free in a cemetery. You're gonna see blind people have their eyes open, lame people walk. You're gonna begin to see 5,000 people fed, a woman with an issue of blood that doctors couldn't even help her get miraculously healed. And he said, so when you get into that second storm,
just remember who I am. Just remember that I am a healer. I am provider. I am God over hell and the grave. And he said, so when you get into a storm, you're not gonna ask the question, who is this that comes, the winds and the sea? You're gonna say, certainly this is God's son, Hallelujah. After every storm, this is so important. 'Cause we all have our cemetery-deliverant stories. We all have our provisioned stories. We all have our healing stories. When I'm in Jesus' vote and the storms comes, my prayer is this, show me your glory. Show me who you are. but I know you're going to show up. He has never felt -- when God has put me in a boat and put me in a position and put me in a city, he's never put me there alone. And if God has directed you to live in New York City, it may seem overwhelming. It may try to bring fear when you walk down into a subway. It may be fear when you try to walk through Central Park and now they're talking about attacks and all these things that are happening, but I'm here to tell you if God sent you, God will protect you. If God brought you here, God will be with you. Don't you fear if you are walking with Jesus, he is there. The Jesus boat will mature you. The Jesus boat will give you revelation, but you want to be in that boat because it's that Jonah boat is from stubbornness and personal agenda and you just won't stop doing what you want to do. So I got to talk to you people. I read an interesting story that one of the most iconic tourist buildings in Italy is the Leaning Tower of Pisa. A few decades ago, they said engineers were saying it was leaning too much over time and it could in the near distant future fall over. So the city fathers called in the engineers and they asked for the famous tourist site to be stabilized. And this is what they said. They said fix the problem, but leave the tilt. They said don't straighten it. We want it to be straighten just enough that it doesn't fall over. The passengers on Jonah's boat walk with a tilt.
They've got a lean on them. They want Jesus to stabilize their life, but they don't want Jesus speaking too much about their leanings. When you get church but not Jesus, you'll keep the tilt. I'm just telling you, let me say that again, when you get church but not Jesus, you keep the tilt. But when you get Jesus, he talks a lot. And he'll start dealing with stuff. Some lean towards unhealthy worldview, some lean towards dangerous mindsets and viewpoints. And you think you can come to church and just think whatever you want. But if you come to Jesus, he will talk to you. He will speak through this book and through this word. See, when we don't have this part of our life, then we keep the tilt. We keep the lean. But when you begin to give your life to Christ, I'm telling you what you lean towards in political politics, what you lean towards in worldviews, what you lean towards in this, it gets adjusted by this. So if you don't want the tilt fix, don't come to Jesus, but just go to church. Because you can come in and walk out. But if you come to Jesus, he will talk to you. That's why he talked to Jonah and said, you're going to go to these people in Nineveh. He hated those people in Nineveh because of what they did to the people of God. He didn't want a revival there. He wanted them all dead. And God said, that's why you're going on a ship. That's why you're going the opposite direction. Because you don't think I can love the people that you hate. Some of you're going like, it's too early for this passage to him. It's way too early for this. Couldn't you just wait till tonight and just do this? But that's the problem. Some of you were in storms because you didn't listen to God what God said. So you're on a boat with a tilt. You're on a boat with a lean that God goes, I don't want that lean there. Some of those are on the Jonah boat. I was talking to someone about this just the other day, that even they're tilt on finances. They go from person to person, company to company, broken promises. Don't pay off running from the IRS, not paying their taxes. And we're asking God to fix everything but the tilt. We're asking God to fix me, stabilize my life, but don't get involved with these areas here. Don't get involved with my relationships, my opinions, or my money. So when you get to a storm, it's not for growth, it's to get you back on track. That's what those storms are for. I knew you weren't going to be happy today. It doesn't matter to me. Listen, because there will always be an easy way. There'll always be a boat docked at Japa that will go the opposite direction. Japa means you ignore what God says. Choose the easy way. And soon I promise you there will be a storm and there will be a fish to get you back on track. They know what God has said but chose to walk a different
if you come to church and not in this city. Church won't get you through this city. You need Jesus to get you through this place. There is not a church, folks. I'm telling you, it's the truth. If we don't have Jesus here, we're in trouble. If you come to this place and all you are like, oh, that was a good hour. That was a good 90 minutes. Oh, they were so nice. They didn't hurt me. They didn't bother folks. I'm telling you, Jesus speaks so much. He will correct that tilt every single time. I was reading something, I saw an article. It said the 2020, I was talking about the word of the year. And it talks about that usually the word of the year begins to tell you what the culture is like. Last year's word of the year was, don't, don't. It just tells you, it was six, seven, please, please. It's just, it's just so ridiculous. It's just, it's for those that don't know, you don't want to know, okay? But they said the 2026 word of the year is maxing, which refers to the practice of pursuing an activity to the fullest, optimizing a certain aspect of your life. And I thought, you know, that's not a bad word, much better than six, seven. And here's what I realized, God doesn't work unless there is maxing.
Unless you go all in with God, it just doesn't work. You have to say Jesus, it's you, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. It's you, folks, there, I know there are pulpits all around America, preaching about the election, the election, the election. And this is how you vote in these archives. There's churches in this city that put candidates in the pulpit, please, stop it. You want to know how you vote the right way? Go maxing with Jesus. That's how it happens. Enough, enough of going, you need to be concerned. You need to be this. You need to be independent. You need to be a devil. No, you need a maxing with Jesus and say nothing, but he matters. God doesn't work unless that happens. You will know what boat you're on based on what you get in your storm, whether you're getting a miracle or a fish. If you get a fish, if you get swallowed into darkness, then your prayer must be one of repentance. Listen, folks, I watch people swallow it up and their fish was jail time and they came to God. I've watched that, I've seen it. If you get a miracle, God calms the storm, then look, sometimes there even could be a cemetery, then you're gonna praise him and say, God, you're in charge here.
When you find the lean happening, the tilt, let me tell you what happened to me Saturday morning, I felt there was a tilt in me. I felt there was a tilt, this was last Saturday. And I felt there was a tilt that was taking place and God spoke to me. And on Saturday morning, I couldn't get by a passage that I just kept reading. It wasn't reading for a sermon, it wasn't reading to preach it. It was just for my spirit. And this is what I read. It said, but if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his spirit that dwelleth in you. The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you. Folks, I just, I put my Bible down and I said, how can I lose? How can I lean? How can I tilt with the Holy Spirit in me, with the resurrected Holy Spirit inside of me? See, he says that the Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the clutches of the enemy of death. This is what it says in 1 Corinthians 15, 25. He, for he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. And the last enemy that will be abolished is what?
Death, the same spirit that raised Jesus from the what? Death dwells inside of me. He will put all enemies under his feet. Death is the last one because death is the mightiest one and the strongest one. It holds out for complete control. And he put death under his feet at the resurrection of Jesus Christ. You've heard them sing about that resurrection. So can the Holy Spirit in me defeat lust, worry, porn, bitterness, anger, my selfishness, my pride, my arrogance. He can defeat-- if he can defeat death, he can defeat anything else. He has defeated that enemy and there's not one enemy. I literally put my Bible-- then there's nothing that he can't get victory over. And I literally put my Bible down and I said no more tilts. No more leanings. I want Jesus. I'm maxing on Jesus is what's going to happen to me. Folks, I'm telling you today you can get off that Joan about disobedience because there's good news for you. God has made a way so you can know that you can come back to him. You can get to him. And he will use, I just laugh to use a fish to get Joan back on track. I lived almost 30 years in Detroit, Michigan, in the inner city. And folks, don't ask me why, but my neighbor in the inner city had a rooster. Don't even ask me why. And at 5 a.m. every morning, that rooster would crow until I think some pit bulls got it. But let me just tell you the truth.
I'm just telling you the story. It's the truth. But every morning, a crowed. And I remember one of, before I got married, I had some of the men and interns from the church living in this house with me in the city. And one of my roommates told me, they said every morning that rooster would wake them up. And he said, I'd lay in bed and lift my hands and say, don't let me deny you today, Jesus. Don't let me deny you today, Jesus. Don't let me. Well, of course he got that from Peter. Think about it for just a moment. God used a rooster, a fish, and a donkey to get people back on track. Peter wept because of a crowing rooster. Balaam repented because of a talking donkey. Jonah prayed and obeyed because of a fish with a big mouth. Then Peter preached, Balaam prophesied, and Jonah led a revival. They were brought to their divine purposes, folks, by God's lesser creation. He used those things to get people back on track. He will use whatever he can to get us to where we need to be. I have to read this day as the band comes. I want to get ready to finish a few weeks ago. I read this and was so overwhelmed because I was reading and thinking about Jonah. I was thinking about this rooster. I was thinking about this donkey. I'm going, God, if you would use a talking donkey to get a prophet who is in the wrong place, how you would use a crowing rooster to remind Peter that God's word is true and to get him back on track. He would use a fish with a big mouth to swallow a man. I started to read this. In fact, I just said I'm going to put it on the screen because I want you to see it as I read it. Someone just said, "How can you not believe in God?"
He's going to talk about the roosters and the fish. He's going to talk about those donkeys. He's going to talk about the lesser creation that God puts in action to remind us that He is God. Listen to these words. He said, "How can you not believe in God?" When octopuses dream and others have a favorite rock they carry and otters have a favorite rock they carry around in their little skin pocket, cows have best friends and bees are out there communicating the coordinates of flowers through interpretive dance and they have regional dialects. How can you not believe in God when cats are purring at frequencies associated with bone healing? Forests get absolutely incinerated and respawned by growing flowers. Dolphins literally invent names for themselves and yell them across the ocean. How can you not believe in God when penguins are waddling around the Antarctica looking for the perfect little rock to give their beloved? How can you not believe in God when crows remember your face? They tell other crows about you. They tell their children about you. You can have a generational beef with the birds. How can you not believe in God? Goats have accents, rats giggle when you tickle them. Elephants mourn their dead, whales make songs and then other whales learn the song and suddenly everybody across the ocean is singing the new hit single. How can you not believe in God when monarch butterflies are born knowing how to fly thousands of miles to a place they've never been? How can you not believe God? Seeing turtles hatch out an egg immediately sprint toward an ocean. They've never seen disappear into it for 30 years and somehow come back to the same beach. How can you not believe in God? Birds can see colors that we cannot see. There are colors happening right now that we don't even know yet to know about.
How can you not believe in God when there are sea slugs that eat algae and steal its chloroplasts? And then after their heist, start photosynthesizing in the ocean. How can you not believe in God? Squirrels plant millions of trees because they simply cannot remember where they put their snacks. How can you not believe in God? A caterpillar goes into a little bag, dissolves most of its body into organic soup, rearranges itself, grows wings and then leaves. How can you not believe in God? And you're telling me a tiny acorn knows how to become a 70 foot oak tree. Nobody tells it what to do. It just has tree instructions inside of it. How can you not believe in God? Your body started as one cell, one. And that cell divided into a brain that can think about its own existence and eyes, that can look at stars and hands, that can hold somebody else's hands in a heart that runs on electricity without even you asking it to. How can you not believe in God that the iron in your blood was made inside a star? How can you not believe in God? We are walking around on a wet rock covered in bioluminous and oceans and singing whales, laughing rats, birds holding lifelong grudges, flowers exploding out of a fire, and somehow we're supposed to act like this is a normal place that we live. We serve a great God. [Applause] Speaking through his creation, stand with me, hallelujah. I learned that three days inside of a fish and inside of a digestive track of a fish, and when God redirected it and spit him back up, Jonah back up in Jonah chapter 3, they say that he looked differently coming out than when he went in. Scientists say Jonah's skin was bleached white. He looked like a ghost from the stomach acids and digestive juices inside the fish, and after being inside there for three days and three nights, the man that was spit up was bleached, ghost white. I think if I was in Nineveh, I'd get saved too. If you come in and go like, "Here I am, get saved." I'm going like, "We're coming to Jesus. We're coming to Jesus." It is a moment that God calls people back. He calls his prophets back. He calls his pastors back. He calls churches back. He calls believers back. It's those that are trying to sit on a boat and going like, "Why isn't life working? Why isn't this stuff working?" Because God is speaking and you've gone a wrong direction. You've gone an opposite direction. God has spoke. I've talked with people that are running from paying a debt and they're wondering why all these storms are hitting. They just won't turn around and go, "I've got to be responsible. I've got to be responsible. I've got to face this. I've got to pay this. I've got to take care of this. I've got to begin to fight for this and do what's right here." And here, there's this moment that you're in a boat and this could be the moment that God is calling. He'll use all of creation. He will use the fish. He'll use the donkey. He'll use the rooster. And maybe today he's using an Italian that's spitting upon you right now and going like an Italian on 51st and Broadway. Maybe he is. Maybe it's just a wake-up moment. Maybe you're here going like, "Man, I was just staying at a hotel. I just wanted to go to the marathon because I knew whoever's running from Staten Island is going to take him a long time." So I said, "I'll go to church. I just want to see a choir. Maybe God's getting ahold of you. Maybe God used a marathon to get you to New York City and to get you in church." Who knows? Listen, if he can do all that through his creation, he can get ahold of your life. He can get ahold of your life. And I'm telling you, as I was reading about all these animals and I'm reading about octopuses and crows and everything else,
the only one I'm going that we know about here are rats. And it says, "If you tickle them, they giggle. Nobody's tick-- I just want to let you know. Nobody's tickling rats here in New York City." How many New Yorkers are with me on that? we stay on our side of the subway platform. We're not interested. So don't, please don't see if it works, okay? Just let's just keep that on. But it's God, it's God that may be calling you back, that maybe you're on the wrong boat. So before we pray for you, can I just, can I read something to you? I told you I started doing something every morning. I just take a King James Bible, and I read, and then I read a hymnal. And I have a hymnal from the 1800s. It's a hymnal of revival hymns that the Wesley brothers wrote that shook two continents. John was the preacher, Charles was the hymn writer. 4,000 hymns he wrote, and the power of them. This hymnal I got, it's, it's, I think there's, 400 hymns in it. It's gigantic and small, but there's no music to it. He said he just wrote the lyrics. He didn't write any music to it. He writes this hymn of calling people back to God. I want to read it to you today. I wasn't planning on it, but I want to read it to you. You're going to see it on the screen. And it's 10 verses. And here's the amazing thing.
Nobody writes 10 verses. We just keep repeating stuff. We just keep going through, who writes 10 verses anymore? 10 verses. When they said when John and Charles wrote 4,000 tongues to sing, the actual hymn had 70 verses. They said they just couldn't stop writing. They couldn't stop. But here's what it says. He wrote these words, and it's a call. Sinners obey the gospel word. Haze to the supper of my Lord. Be wise to know your gracious day. All things are ready. Come away. Ready the Father is to own and kiss the late, returning son. Ready, your loving Savior stands and spreads for you His bleeding hands. Ready the spirit of His love, just now the stony to remove, to apply and witness with the blood and wash and seal the sons of God. Ready for you, the angels wait to triumph in your blessed estate, tuning their harps. They long to praise the wonders of redeeming grace. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost is ready with their shining host. All heaven is ready to resound. The dead's alive and the lost is found. Come then ye sinners to your Lord in Christ
to paradise restored. He proffered benefits embrace the plenitude of gospel grace, a pardon written with his blood, the favor and the peace of God, the seeing eye, the feeling sense, the mystic joys of penitence, the godly grief, the pleasing smart, the meltings of a broken heart, the tears that tell, your sins forgiven, the sighs that waft your souls to heaven, the guilt, the shame, the sweetness, the stress, the unutterable tenderness, the genuine me humility, the wonder why such love to me, the overwhelming power of saving grace, the sight that veils, the seraphs face, the speechless awe that dares not move and all the silent heaven of love, hallelujah. It's calling you today. Would you just close your eyes and bow your head for just a moment? It's a call back to him today. It's a call back to him today. You have run from God's voice. You have chosen, you have chosen, some are here, you have chosen religion and church over Jesus. And I'm telling you, you found yourself on a boat that doesn't get you there. You're in a boat with a bunch of people that I'm telling you that God goes get off that boat. This is the day. This is the day. This is the day. And if you're here in this place,
Newen Pastor Tim, I've been on the wrong boat. I have been on the wrong boat. But today is the day that I am switching. I've got to get this right. Life doesn't work on that disobedient boat. Life doesn't work when God says one thing and you get on a boat and job, but that goes the opposite direction, the opposite. Because you're not willing to deal with a tilt and a lean. And I'm telling you, when God spoke to me about my own tilt and said, don't forget, you have the resurrection spirit inside of you. If he can defeat death, he can defeat every tilt that's in your life. You find yourself tilting towards opinions, world views But don't run from me. I, we watch it all the time. Why do you think people, let me just say this to you. I, I, I know this is going to sound self-serving. Why do you think people come in to a service and they want to hear the singing, but they won't stay for the word of God? Because the word of God is sharper than in two-edged sword. It'll start to go deeper right into the soul. Soul, soul in the Bible. Loved when David would come and play the harp. It said it refresh the demon inside of him. But I'm telling you, this is the word that cuts deep and says, God, correct that tilt.
Let me ask you this, with your heads bowed and your eyes closed, how many have a tilt that needs to start getting correction and raise your hand and just going, this thing needs to get right? Go on, hold it up high and just say, God, I need that thing done. I'm telling you, there is a resurrected Jesus. How many are here to say, there's a boat, I've got to get on the right boat. I'm on the wrong boat, raise your hand right now. Hold it up high and say, I've got to get on this. Here's what I want us to do today. Balcony main floor, those watching around the country, around the world, every university that's watching, this is so important. You can't make it on those universities on the wrong boat. You need, you're going to face storms. You're going to need miracles and revelation of who he is. Let him bring you back today. For just these next few minutes, I'm going to ask you, if you're saying God, correct this tilt, correct this tilt, correct this tilt, correct this tilt. The resurrection Jesus, the resurrected Jesus wants to come. Do we have a song that we have, I want us, I'm going to ask you, I want to pray for you right now. Balcony main floor. Those online, we have people that are going to stand and pray with you, you'll have links that will begin
and they'll begin to pray with you. But if you're here today and just say, I need this tilt, I've been asking for stability but don't touch the tilt. But today, today, this is God wanting to come and do something. This is God wanting to come and do something. Resurrection life today. If that's you, get out of your seat. I want to pray for you right now, quickly. Just get out of your seat as we start to sing. I just feel like we're supposed to pray that God would come. Come on, let's sing this. You begin to move out of your seat right now. We're going to pray for God just to come in a powerfully. Balcony will wait for you as you begin to come. Hallelujah. ♪ I have so be here above the storm ♪ ♪ For the world you like ♪ ♪ I have so be here above the storm ♪ ♪ I will be set on you ♪ ♪ I've got you in your shit ♪ ♪ When the ocean's light ♪ ♪ Think down the floor ♪ ♪ I can soar me above the storm ♪ ♪ For the hero I keep ♪ ♪ Over the land ♪ ♪ I will be set on you ♪ ♪ In my shine ♪ ♪ When the ocean's light ♪

Would you just look up here for just for a second? Just let me just speak fourth, right for a second. You're learning at some, looking at somebody with a little bit of a tilt. That's why we're here. And God convicted me and said, if my spirit lives in you, I don't want to stabilize your life. I'm going to correct the tilts. I'm going to correct that lean. There was some, there was some mindsets. There was some things that God was going after in my mind and saying, I want that. I want those thoughts.
I don't want you thinking that way. I don't want you thinking that way. Because once it gets up here, it can start acting out in front of you. And how many know that that lean has been there long enough? Anybody with me, that tilt has been there long enough. We're going to ask God. We're going to ask God to come and get that thing and go after it. How? The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in us. And if you don't, and listen, and if you're not a Christian, and folks, all you want to do is stay below. You're going to look for medication. You're going to look for programs. And I'm here to tell you, Jesus is enough. But you have to get His spirit inside of you. So I want to pray right now for those that are just going, "God, I need this tilt, this tilt is beginning to almost sink this ship." Whether it's my home, my marriage, my family, or this starting to sink my life. But today, I want to just give you God, my life. I want to give -- I want to give -- Let me ask this question before I pray. How many are here? Because if a spirit is not inside of you,
then it's just a church thing. Then you walk out. If you're here today and say, "Pastor Tim, I have not given my heart to Jesus Christ." The Bible tells us, when you begin to surrender your heart to you, when you're here it comes. My kids are groaning right now. When you go maxing with Jesus, they're all groaning right now. They're going like, "I can't believe you said that." But just listen, just for a second. When you give it all to Jesus, not just Sundays, not just the service, when you give it all to Him, His spirit resides inside of you. But if He's not there, if He's not there, if Christ, if you've never invited Him in, then you're trying to do this with willpower. You're trying to do this by relying on people. But if you're here today and say, "Pastor Tim, I need Christ in my life." When you get Christ, you get God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. And if you're here today, before I pray, if you say, "I need Jesus in my life. I need God in my, raise your hand right now. Hold it up as high as you can, all over this place, all over here, all over this place. Balcony, my goodness, there's so many. Come on, hold those hands up right now. Say this with me, say, "Jesus, I need you in my life. I invite you, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
I thank you that you're my Father. I thank you that you are the Son of God. And I thank you that you are the Spirit of Resurrection. Come into my life. Change me. I believe you died for my sins. I believe that I am your son. I am your daughter. I am a child of God. I believe in the resurrection. I believe that you are God. And I believe your promises are true. And the promise that says, when I receive Christ, I have a resurrected Spirit in me. Come in and change me. In Jesus' name, in Jesus' name, in Jesus' name. Now, Father, I pray not only for the brand new Christians, but for the old Christians. The Father that this lien has come, that they have found themselves on a boat, that God that keeps running in the storms, but God, I'm praying miracles today. Miracles today. God, I'm praying today is a change, a change of destination. It's not a life where God living in disobedience, it's a life that says, "God, I'm with you. I trust you. You did it before you can do it again." So, Father, right now, it's going to be a change that's going to come, you're going to start this today,
that Father, the people are not going to find church, Times Square Church, they're not going to find a church. They're going to find Christ. They're going to find Jesus today. They're going to find that you are the Son of God. We're going to declare today in a storm. Certainly, you are God's Son. We're going to not leaving with questions, but leaving with certainty. I am God's daughter, I am God's child, I am God's Son. God, you are with me. And so, Lord, we're believing in every storm, in every trial that you are going to go with us. So, Father, come by your Holy Spirit today. Father, not just here at 51st and Broadway, move. I'm praying. You're going to move in Mexico, Holy Spirit. God, come. God, we believe for the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico today. Pour out your Holy Ghost. Father, let us live with a resurrected spirit. Let the miracles come in Jesus' name. And everybody said amen and amen and amen. Now listen, before we dismiss you, look at the person next to you and say, I'm on the right boat now. So here's what I want you to do. Ricardo and the team are going to lead us in a great song, a joyful song. And then, if you raise your hands to say, God, I need you in my life, I'm going to ask you, you can go when we dismiss Exit 7, which is right over there. Those wonderful people in the Redcoats, they'll take five minutes with you, get your Bible and help you start on your journey, five minutes. And then, for those that are online, there'll be opportunities for you to text something and click links.
