The Sacredness of Sacraments | Creative Church
Pastor Jonathan explains the importance behind the sacraments and calls the church to come back to the reverence of God.
I believe God wants us as a church to return to holy things. And I think one of the greatest tragedies of what you might call the modern church is that we've become so casual with holy things. Anybody believe in holy things? I think we've become excellent at production. I think we've become, and I'm talking about just church in general, not just our church. I think we've become excellent at production. We've pulled way back on production. I will probably be even pulling back more. We don't have moving lights. I'm not talking about anybody that has it. We don't have haze. We just pull back on a lot of things. And just focus on Jesus. There's a big picture of Jesus here. I want you looking at him when we're singing about him. I don't need you looking at anybody else. I'm not going to get any meant about it. It's funny because you go places and people are seeing to Jesus and there's a 100-foot picture of a guy playing guitar or keys or whatever they're playing. You're like, "If you want people thinking about Jesus, put their eyes on Jesus." And let's put the attention on the cross of Jesus Christ, amen? We've pulled way back on all of these things because we want our heart and our attention on his presence. I think churches become excellent production. They become excellent at branding. I actually want to do less stuff on social media and more in-person opportunity. I think we need more in-person touch. I don't think we need another sermon series about something. I don't need more staff making graphics about sermon series. I need more staff praying and spending time in the presence of Jesus to believe God, to heal people, deliver people, set people free. And I'm not against those things. I'm against them if it takes our heart away from spending time in his presence. I think we become excellent at creating moments, but many churches have slowly drifted away from the sacredness of sacraments. The sacredness of sacraments. And I believe that the Lord Jesus is drawing his church back again to holy things. You're going to see us do things in the building over the next couple years to make our church more symbolic of the death-bearing resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I'm not after cool. I'm after holy.
Anybody after holy? I want holy things. And I believe the Lord's drawing is back to holy things again. Back to holy communion. Back to holy baptism. Back to praying for the sick. Back to marriage as a covenant, not a contract. Back to confession and repentance. We had several people just over the last two weeks have made appointments with ministers to come to the church and confess sin. And we didn't meet them at Starbucks. I told my team, I said, "Don't meet people at Starbucks. Do you meet your doctor at Starbucks?" Come on. Go ahead and take your shirt off. Let me go ahead and look at it. You're like, "Is there a place we could go?" You know, it just seems awkward. See, if you're just hanging out with people, Starbucks is fine, but if you're ministering to them, let me tell you what happens when you minister to people. People start weeping when you read the scriptures, when they confess sin. When they're like, "I need healing in this area of my life." This is why God gave us this beautiful sanctuary. I don't know if you realize it, but we changed the name outside this room from auditorium to sanctuary. When you come here. It's just an auditorium. It is a holy sanctuary. Back to praying the prayers of the church. Back to reverence. I think there ought to be a reverence in God's house. I don't know how you grew up. I wasn't allowed to run in church. You just, this isn't Costco. Walk into the St. Paul Basilica and see if you don't whisper. Watch it, just go in there and watch if you don't go,
"Hey, where do we, what do we do, where do I go?" And no one told you to do that. There's just a reverence. You don't see kids just running around screaming in there. There's like a reverence. Teach your kids the reverence of God's house. When you pull in here, before you get out of the car, go guys, let's pray. We're getting ready to go into God's house. This is how you act in God's house. - Good pastor. - This is not Chuck E. Cheese. This is not Costco. This is how you behave in the presence of God. I mean, if you talk to your kids for you, go to restaurants or you go into a store where there's glass. Come on mom and daddy, anybody talk to your kids, they look, don't touch anything in here. Anybody say that for they go into a store with those things? Right? I want our kids to have fun and to fill 100% welcome. And yes, we have a train and yes, there's fun things and all that, but they need to know this is where lives are changed. This is not the community center. - Amen. - Come on guys, there's a difference about God's house. Back to the awe, anybody want the awe of God. Anybody want to get back to the wonder of God? Yeah, the beauty, the wonder, the awe.
Back to the beauty of Jesus, where Jesus becomes more beautiful again. Because sacraments were never meant to be empty rituals. They were meant to become sacred moments where humanity were people, God's people encounter the presence of God. These aren't man-made traditions. These are holy things. And the presence of God through obedience, through surrender, through the remembrance of them. Every time we take communion, we remember you Lord. Through faith, I'm of you know, it takes faith to believe that that's the blood and the body of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And the word sacrament comes from the Latin word, sacramentum, which means a sacred oath or a consecrated vow or something set apart unto God. In the early church, believers understand that sacraments are holy acts connected directly to Jesus Christ himself. Not casual, everybody say not casual. Not common, everybody say not common. Not rushed, anything you rush you'll find fault with. If you rush worship, you'll find fault with worship. If people rush you, they'll find fault with you. Come on. Some of you have rushed something. You get frustrated. I'm talking to you, lights are on, I can see you. How many of you have ever rushed something? Yeah.
You can't rush it. You can't rush the things of God. They're holy. We're down here praying for people to be healed. How long does it take? I don't know, but let's not rush it. - Come on, it's right. - Let's not rush it. How long does it take you to even make a doctor's appointment? How many weeks did you have to wait to even see the doctor? - Right. - Then you had to go there and wait 30 minutes in a big waiting room. Then they put you in a little waiting room after they weighed you. You know, I'm just saying, look at all the waiting you do to see a doctor. We're not seeing a doctor tonight. We're seeing a healer. We're seeing a healer, this is not a doctor. You walk away from Jesus as presence healed. For I am the Lord, you're healed. And I think we need to recover the fear of the Lord around holy things again. Not fear that pushes us away from God, but a holy reverence that draws us to him. It draws us to his heart. Hebrews 12 writes this down in 28 and 29. It says, "Therefore since we have received a kingdom "which cannot be shaken, let us have grace
"by which we may serve God, acceptably with reverence I think the church has often emphasized relevance. Relevance, we've got to be relevant, but we've lost reverence. Tell pastors to dress relevant, but when they dress relevant, they lose reverence. Make the church relevant, but the church lost reverence. Make it relevant, just make the church look like Costco. And then we wonder why people act like we're at Costco. We've got to get back to holy things. There ought to be a reverence for the things of God. A reverence for God's people. That if one of our ministers calls you, you take the call, or you call them back. Why? Because I have reverence towards that person. I can't get any men about it. Come on, guys. There ought to be a reverence towards people who teach your children the things of Jesus. That you actually pray for them. When was the last time you prayed for kids' workers? Prayed for Riley. Prayed for Andrew and Amona, who lead the youth ministry. Lead the young adults, where we actually called their name out in prayer. The scriptures say, "Know those that labor among you." It's not talking about them knowing you, it's about you knowing them. Hallelujah. Good. But throughout the scripture, whenever people encountered the holiness of God, every time there was an awe. There was an awe. There was a trembling. There was a repentance. You don't encounter God and not repent. There's always a repentance when people encounter God.
There's always a surrender when people encounter God. There's always a trembling. What did angels say constantly, "Fear not, fear not, fear not?" There's a trembling. There's an awe. There's a reverence to the presence of God. Isaiah 6 verses 1-3-5. And in the ear king, Uzziah died, I saw the Lord on his throne. And I saw him high and lifted up in his train or his robe, filled the temple, and above him stood Sarah films, and each one had six wings. How many wings? Six wings. And one cried to another saying, "Holy, holy, holy." Any time you see scripture written three times, it's not that they said it three times. There's nothing underlying or italicized in scripture. So anytime something's emphasized, the word is written twice or three times. So when you see Jesus say, "Verily, verily," he's not saying, "Verily, verily," he's saying, "Verily," I say unto you. So anytime you see it written three times, it's the writer's greatest attempt to convey emphasis. So the angels here are literally screaming, "Holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts. The whole earth is filled with his glory." They're actually screaming so loud that the bow says that the hinges that hold the doors in the temple of God in heaven shake. It's wild. I mean, they're screaming, "Holy is the Lord of Hosts. The whole earth is full of his glory." And the post, here it is, put it back up, in the posts of the doors, and the posts of the doors were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
And it was filled with smoke. So I said, "Woe is me, for I am what? Undone, because I'm a man of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts. One glimpse of holiness, undid Isaiah. For I am undone. Why, for my eyes have seen the King. One glimpse of Jesus changes you forever, changes your children. You don't need another sermon. You need to see Jesus. Gosh, I ask the Lord all the time, "Lord, I don't want another sermon. I just want to show the people you. Come in the room so I don't even have to preach. Come in the room so I don't even have to go on this stage. Let it be like it said in Scriptures that his presence came in the room and the ministers couldn't even stand. They couldn't even... The ministers couldn't minister because his glory came in the room. That's what we pray for. Two wings, they covered their feet, the two wings, they covered their face. See, worshippers, real worshippers aren't seen. They don't need to be seen. Because the sacraments are not disconnected from Jesus, they're meant to reveal Jesus. The communion reveals his body, his blood, water baptism reveals the death burial and resurrection. How many of you are thankful for the death burial and resurrection of Jesus? Marriage reveals Christ and His church. Praying for the sick reveals His compassion and power, confession reveals cleansing, mercy. If you've never confessed sin, you don't know the beauty of that sacrament. You don't know the beauty of it. There is a freeing that comes in you when you confess sin.
It's like you couldn't breathe again. And the church has just gotten rid of it. It's like getting rid of marriage, or getting rid of praying for the sick, getting rid of communion. So many churches, we don't pray for the sick anymore, we don't have communion, we don't confess. They just have gotten rid of it and we just entertain people. And whoever can have the most entertainment and the shortest service has the most people. God forgive us. Fill us with your glory. I don't know if you want Jesus, I want Jesus, I want less people and more of Jesus. Come on, amen. Can I get any amen about it? Less people in church, I mean less of us, less flesh. The sacraments keep us, they keep bringing us back to Jesus, that's what sacraments do. And honestly I think we've made some holy things too casual. Communion has become rushed, baptisms become a photo opportunity. Prayer for the sick is now become optional, marriage has become cultural instead of covenant. The early church treated things in these moments differently, treated them with reverence. Acts chapter 2 verse 42 write this down, and they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship in the breaking of bread and in prayers. They met in homes. I can literally get up here and say we are now getting ready to meet in homes and in groups and church people will just like do nothing about it. This is not what the early church did, the early church met, it's not okay for you to come to church and not know your brothers and sisters. I want you to know them, you have a responsibility to know those that labor among you, you are your brother's keeper. You are not an island off the coast of creative church, you are a part of a family. Well I don't like my family, well that's why God gave you the family of God.
And then you may heal all of your family and get them all safe so that you can love them with the love of Jesus, amen. Notice what was marked by the early church, notice doctrine, everybody say doctrine, fellowship, everybody say fellowship, the breaking of bread, everybody say the breaking of bread. And prayer, prayer. These were centered to their life. And communion especially with sacred, let's look at 1 Corinthians chapter 11 verse 23 through 29, go back and pray this later, for I receive from the Lord. By which I also delivered unto you, this is the apostle Paul speaking, that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which he was betrayed took bread. And when he had given thanks, he broke it and said take, eat, this is my body which is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same manner he also took the cup after supper saying this is the cup in the new covenant which is my blood. do as often as you do it in remembrance I'm sorry, as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. How many of you have ever heard that before? Okay, now listen, therefore whoever eats this bread and drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let every man examine himself and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup for he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner, eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord. Then he goes on to say for many, for this reason, many are sick and some have even died. Some have fallen asleep because they eat of the table of the Lord in an unworthy way. This sacrament comes with a warning.
Come on church, this is New Testament. It's quiet, this is New Testament, this is the Apostle Paul. He's saying, "Do not eat and drink communion with sin in your heart, with unforgiveness in your heart, with bitterness in your heart. Doing it unworthy? Are you a part of the body? Are you a part of the body of Christ? Are you a functioning part of the body of Christ? Are you eating and drinking of the table of the Lord and you're not a part of the body of Christ? If so, you do it in an unworthy manner and he says, listen to me, now as a pastor I have responsibility to teach you. This is okay if I teach you the Holy Scriptures, this is the Scriptures. He says, tell the people, don't do this. If you do this in an unworthy manner, you eat and drink damnation on your body. So this is so, it is not just, I don't know what that liquid actually is. I don't think it's actually grape juice, maybe it is, a Kool-Aid. I don't know what it is, they put it in there. And bread is not just juice and bread. It becomes the body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Do you know what they, when they asked Mother Teresa, they said, what is the most evil thing you've ever seen in your life? With all your travel and everywhere around the world? Is it poverty? Is it abuse? Is it violence? Is it murder? Is it abandonment? What is, what is the most evil thing? You've ever seen? And she responded with this, the body of the Lord in unworthy hands. Mother Teresa said it was the most evil thing she had ever seen. This is why we have to wash our heart. This is the moment when the church comes together and forgives.
Each other, your spouse, your parents, your children, those who hurt you, in church, out of church, you wash your heart. You forgive, you cleanse, because you're getting ready for take of the table of the Lord. Why do I do it every service? Because I want you to forgive. I want you to be cleansed and washed. God is not okay with you saying you love Him and hate her or Him or them. God's not okay with it. How many parents know I'm not okay with you loving me as a mom and dad and you hate your siblings? Come on parents, am I right about it? You say if you want to love me, go make it right. That's why Matthew 5 says if you have a problem with a brother or sister, leave your gift at the altar, reconcile with your brother. Then God says come back and partake of the table of the Lord. Then I will receive it. Let's give God praise for the holy scriptures. Amen. Paul is showing us that communion is holy. It's not a snack. It's not goldfish and juice boxes. It's not a transition moment. All right, we're transitioning now to the next thing. It's not a filler in the service. It is a sacred remembrance. And I think we shouldn't handle things so casually. There should be a consecration in leaders again. There should be prayer again before serving communion. There should be repentance again. That's why we pray for the sick. before we partake in communion. What do we say? We put James 5 up. Come on guys, you with me on this? We say if there's any sick among you, let them come. And if there's anyone with sin, let them come and confess their sins that they may be healed. There ought to be repentance, holiness.
There should be a tenderness again because when leaders lose the awe, people eventually lose hunger. I'm bringing us back to the all of God. I'm bringing us back to the hunger of God. And one of the greatest needs of this generation is listen to me. We don't need any more entertainment. We don't need another screen. You all came here with one. Come on guys, we don't need another screen. How many of you are trying to get your kids off screens all the time? You try to get your spouse off the screen. You're like, look at me. I don't want you to feel condemned. I want you to feel hungry for the things of God again. It's a hunger. We need Holy hunger, longing for Jesus, a longing for the presence, a longing for purity, a longing for remembrance, a longing for sacred things. Water baptism is sacred, too. How many of you believe in the sacredness of water baptism? Let's write it down, Romans 6, 3 and 5. Or do you not know that as many of us were baptized unto Christ Jesus? We were baptized unto His death. Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death. That just as Christ raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in the newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection. So baptism is not just merely some symbolic emotion. It is a covenant declaration. And it is a public identification that with Christ's death,
burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I'm identifying with Him. We have to teach people the beauty of these things. We have to get back to teaching people the beauty of kneeling. The beauty of repentance, the beauty of communion, the beauty of baptism, the beauty of the covenant of marriage. I think people need to, society should make marriage harder to get into. Much harder to get into it. You can get married now. It is the most important, I was just talking to my uncle there today about it. I said it's the most important thing, typically most people will ever do, even legally in their life. Like, your rights change, you're like so much changes in your life legally. And they don't even give you a pamphlet. Like, you can't buy a flashlight without an owner's manual. And you got married and they're like, "That's it, did I need something?" No, you're just, "Good luck." Sign here, it was like, "What?" I'm just saying, like, people are thinking about the cake. And they're not thinking about, like, what is this? They're thinking about just all the things that they've got to play in. And I'm not attacking that, I'm just saying. And at the end of all of it, outside of the legal side, outside of everything that we're planning, "Oh, one second. Isn't this a holy moment?" This is not just about pictures and videos and cake and dancing. All that can be wonderful. But where in priority does God fit in this moment? The beauty of baptism, the beauty of the covenant of marriage, the beauty of praying for the sick. Our people believe it's beautiful when we pray for the sick
and God heals his people. Amen. The beauty of praying ancient prayers. When we pray tonight before we leave, we're going to pray the Lord's Prayer. I've been starting to pray the Lord's Prayer several times throughout the day. Some of you while you're doing that you just watching reels Come on James 5 I'm almost done James 5 14 15 and 16 is anyone sick among you. This is our script script We put up every let him call the elders of the church let them pray for him anoint them with oil How many do you believe in anointing people with oil? Come on in the name of the Lord and the prayer of faith will what? Save the sick and the Lord will raise him up and if he has committed sins he will be what? forgiven Confess your sins one to another See we're good with the healing part now. We're like I get rid of that part What is this let's just all act like we never have sinned And we'll just we'll just pretend God won't know The Bible says he that made the eye can he not see He that made the ear can he not hear He says confess them One to another that you may be what? healed Would we have more healing if we had more? Confession Can you not when you go to the doctor what's the first thing they get you to do? Confess you have to walk up to that window who you don't know and they go what you're here for? And what do you have to do confess? I'm here because I have this pain. I'm here because of this. I'm here. You've got to confess and that is where humility begins
And then you go through a process of more humility Confessing on a form you feel like a 20 page form of confession Tell us anything that has ever happened to you Or your mother or your father or your brother or your sister tell us your whole family's problems You don't know these people Come on then you got to pay them Yeah You all go to the doctor you got to pay them money then then they're gonna weigh you Let's start doing that. Let's get a scale here on Sunday Come on smile. Come on. I'm just kidding then they go away then then they gonna put you in a gown with no back Put you on a table and your feet don't touch the ground put you on butcher paper And then you come in talk to you for about three minutes It's all you get Come on Look at how much humility we have to get healed in our body and how little humility we have to get healed in our soul Wow Confess that you may be healed notice the sacredness oil prayer elders Thank God let's celebrate our elders John bandy Ryan dude enough Agnes and Nana Prayer elders healing confession In fact, this is all here This is New Testament These were the holy acts connected to the life of the church Let's in with this marriage itself is sacramental and with marriage Ephesians 5 31 through through through 32 for this reason a man shall leave his father and mother joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh This is the great mystery But I speak concerning Christ. We need to we need to get back to being okay with mystery again. I Don't know how God Throws away the old and makes all things new in a tank
that we bought in a magazine from China and It got would put around it and it got filled the night before and heated and it's just a man-made thing But when it becomes dedicated to the Lord When it becomes now holy meaning we don't let people play around in this is not a swimming pool the night before And the waters are prayed over. I don't know how in that moment God makes all things new in someone's life. I don't know how we can go online and buy a box of communion. And when it comes here and it's in a bowl and somebody takes it and then we pray over it and we dedicate it to the Lord. And then when somebody takes it, they get healed. I don't know how that happens. It's a mystery. It's a mystery how two people become one. We need to get back to being OK with holy mystery. I don't know how when somebody comes in meals and we take oil and we anoint them and we pray the scriptures that are in here. I don't know how-- I don't even know where this was made. Probably India or China or Taiwan or something. But I don't know how it works that when the same words are printed on this paper when they're red, heart's melt, and lives are changed, it's a mystery. I think we've gotten tied up with so much like we've got to know this and we've got to know this and now we don't realize we have no peace. How many of you want the peace of God that surpasses all understand? The only way to have the peace of God that surpasses all understanding is to give up your right to understand
and to go back to the mystery of God. Come on. I want the wonder. I can watch my little kids and I'll do something that they don't understand and they go. And then if you explain everything, they lose the wonder. How many have you ever been to some amusement park or some magician or some thing birthday party and they did something you're like, wow. And then you see behind the curtain and you're like, oh. It's just a cable. Anybody know what I'm talking about? But the things about God, there's not a person behind the curtain pulling a cable. They are holy and miraculous and heavenly. And God takes ordinary things when we surrender it to Him. I'm going to, you know, work just ordinary people. And when we surrender to God, God saves us and heals us and sets us apart. And we become holy for the use of the king. Come on, I'm going to get any men about that. So marriage is not merely a legal contract. Marriage is a living picture of Jesus and His bride. And this is why covenant matters. That's why purity matters. This is why forgiveness matters. Why serving one another matters. Because every godly marriage is supposed to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ silently. In a way, in the way that a husband and a wife love each other. When a husband and wife love each other, it preaches the gospel. And honestly, I think the church has become uncomfortable with mystery. And we want everything explained and everything efficient and everything fast.
But the kingdom of God is filled with holy mystery. The bread in the cup, the water in the spirit, the oil in the prayer, the covenant in the vows, the kneeling and surrender. It's mystery. And we've just gotten rid of it. We've got to get back to it, church. God always used physical acts to reveal spiritual things. Jesus spat in the mud to heal somebody. People touched the hem of His garment and were healed. Paul had prayer cloths and carried healing. Name and dipped in the Jordan and Israel crossed through the waters. Moses lifted the rod. The widow poured the oil over and over and over and over again. And God continually uses surrendered acts of faith to reveal His love, His grace, His mercy, His miracles, His healing, His joy, His unconditional love. Not dead religion, not empty rituals, not tradition without presence. I do not want tradition and no glory. What makes all of this that we do beautiful is that His presence is in the room. But holy acts filled with reverence, scripture, worship, repentance in the presence of Jesus. And honestly, I think leaders should carry these things differently, not arrogantly. Come on, can I get any men about that? But with trembling. Because not everyone should casually handle holy things. Holy people. And I want to, as a church, to carry holy things. Leviticus talks about how nadab and abahu, they put strange fire on the altar. They were not consecrated under God. They tried to do something in the temple and it wasn't God's anointed. And God dealt with it. Communion should not be rushed.
Prayers should not be rushed. It shouldn't be mechanical. I want my band to come to the stage. You guys come back to the stage for me. Prayers should not be mechanical, baptism should not be performance. Marriage, listen to me, marriage is not disposable. You don't throw, just throw marriages away and get a new one. I can't get one amen. Come on. Hold on to your spouse. Pray for your spouse. I realize there's moments and there's abuse and there's biblical grounds. I understand all that. But I'm just saying we've just gotten, we live in a world that's casual with it. There should be preparation for the things of God. There should be consecration for the things of God. Before there should be a purity, how many believe in a purity for the things of God? There should be an honor for the things of God. Just before, I'm trying to, I want you guys to start preparing your heart before you even come in here. With your kids, hey, hey guys, we're getting ready to, this is how, I want to pray, this is how we're going to handle this. Helping yourself, you need to buy yourself before you just run out the car and run in here. Hey, let me study my heart. Let me study my heart. I remember, I'll leave you with this, I remember, I think it was just earlier this year, I had gotten a report from the doctor. I was having these terrible stomach pains and we were actually in a video shoot for something for the church and I told you and I said, "You got to take me to the ER."
I was bent over and my whole family was there, we were doing this, I mean, the studio, everything. People flew in for it and I'm literally like, I'm crying and I said, "You got to take me to the emergency room." I go to the emergency room, I'm like, "So much pain," and they give me something to help with all of it and everything and they do a CT scan and they find a sis on my pancreas and they're like, "Hey, this is a little concerning. You need to go see your primary care doctor, you probably need to do an MRI on you and dah dah dah dah dah dah." So it says in there what kind of sis it is and what not and so then you do what you're not supposed to do, you start googling it and looking at it and then it's just terrible stuff and it's going to turn into cancer and this type sis, this percentage, the high percentage leads to actual pancreatic cancer and so I go into book the MRI and I pull in the parking lot, it's over here in Maple Grove where I go in and I just sit in the car. I got there really, I sat in the car and the Lord told me he said, "Anoint yourself with oil." And I'm like, "Why?" And he's like, "Anoint yourself with oil." So I pop the trunk, I go get my bag in the bag and sure enough I've got a little bottle of oil in there and I just sit in the car by myself and I just anoint myself with oil and I pray the prayer of faith and I have anybody with me and just pray the prayer of faith and I said, "Now Lord, you are my Hebrew. I know what this report says. I know that they saw it with their eyes, but you are my healer and I just sit in the parking lot right over here and I just anoint myself with oil. go in you know You go through all the humility stuff and and then I'm sitting there the guy comes in goes What we're gonna do? We're gonna look at your pancreas down and he starts talking to me And he's going long story short. I end up like Witnessing to him praying with him leading him to the Lord the guy who is it like right?
I'm like on a pat, you know He's going through things with his kid and you know I'm telling him you know just praying with him and I just felt like that was a whole God moment and then they You know they put me in that thing which I hate that like tube You know, which I don't really feel like I fit in they weren't thinking about me when I went when they made it And so I'm just in there. I just felt like a piece of God just worshiping the whole time and just praying. It's like Lord I just trust you I trust you so then you know I come back and everything was like the next day They send you the result join gets the results and and the results of literally I could show you I didn't bring it to I can show they literally said There is no sis Like it's it doesn't exist They they looked at everything to like it's not not only is it not only is it like It's not like a bad sis. It's like there is no sis So I have one one CT scan saying you have a sis and I have an MRI saying you there is no sis I'm just telling you we have to get back to believing in holy things. I can't explain it to you I don't know I don't know how a little bottle of oil in A car and you just anoint yourself and you say Jesus. I trust you and you pray the scripture. I don't know it's a mystery It's a mystery. I Can't get up here and teach you a method I'm teaching you to fall in love with the mystery. See so God doesn't want you to fall in love with how he does it He wants you to fall in love with him Because we fell in love with with how if we knew exactly how we'd fall in love with the how and not fall in love with him That's why no one in scriptures. God never healed anyone person the same way twice Everyone was healed differently So that you wouldn't fall in love with the method You'd fall in love with the master Because what's the healing about the healer? What's the provision without the provider? What's the deliverance without the deliverer? We have to be a people That return to holy things
Where when we sit in the car before we come in we pray and we say oh God meet me here I've gotten up got in dress Come here with my family have helped my kids find their other shoe God I've just had a rough week But I'm getting ready to walk into your gates with me. I'm gonna walk into your courts for praise I'm gonna be thankful to you When I walk in that room today and Schuyler hits that first note God meet me When I when I come to the altar and I kneel before you and they put oil on my head Heal my marriage heal my home heal my children Like expectancy starts to fill your heart. Come on. Does anybody know what I'm talking about like you come Expecting God to move you come expecting God not well move me if you can Stir me if you can now you like you come ready and hungry and believing that God's gonna meet you That positions our hearts And when communion takes place you're like God's washing me right now. He's cleansing me and he's delivering me And when the word goes forth your wash the Bible says you wash by the washing of the word That is you hear the word of God. I don't know how it happens I don't know when I read these verses how it washes the people. I don't know how it happens I don't know how would people pray a prayer of salvation the Bible says that all of heaven Rejoices because that person's name is now written in the lambs book of life and that your name is engraved on his body I don't know how that happens. It's a mystery, but we've got to fall in love with the mysteries of the sacraments of Jesus Christ This is my heart for our church. This is the heart of God for his people Maybe we could fall in love I forget the other theologians name, one was John Wesley, I forget the other one, and it's just going blank, but two theologians, they used to be best of friends and as they grew in their theology, they began to argue and fight with each other, they actually became like opponents, and before they died, John Wesley wrote him a letter and said, "I think we loved each other more when we knew less. I think sometimes we loved God's people more when we knew less.
I think we just got to live in a world that's like no more, no more, no more, no more, and it's like the more I know, the less I love." Let's get back to the wonder, let's get back to the holy mysteries of the things of God. And like God, that's why the scriptures say, "Be like little children." Come on, am I right about it? They didn't say be like us, they said, "Be like little children, little children, little children walk in there and they go, "Wow." I don't understand that, but wow. I don't know how that happens, but wow. That person just got saved, that person just got healed, that person just got delivered. Look what God did in that home, I don't understand it, I don't know it all, but man, let's get back to the wonder. The wonder of reading the scriptures, the wonder of getting up in the morning, and I don't know how God gives you peace when you pray, but it just somehow He does. Let's fall in love with the wonder. Let's fall in love with holy things. Amen? Come on, give Jesus a praise, would you stand with me?
