Revival Night 2: Redemption | Micahn Carter
(audience applauding) - Thank you precious people. How many of you can say the Lord has done some good things for you? (audience applauding) How many of you folks from out of town had a little attack of the devil just before you got here or came here? (audience applauding) How many of you almost thought you weren't gonna make it but the Lord somehow brought you through? (audience applauding) Look at somebody say the devil just won some battles (audience applauding) but he won't win the war. That's my guy. I call him at all times. Let me tell you something about why this is special to me and why this church is special to me because four years ago, our church was in Cyprus and we got robbed. About a quarter million dollars worth of AC units got stolen and it was one of the hardest times of my life in ministry. And out of nowhere in December, I get a call from your pastor and he says, "Hey, I'm sending you a video. I want you to watch it and I want you to share it with your church." And that video was him saying that Union Houston was sowing in to my church to help us pay
back what we needed to pay so we can get our AC units. So listen, I'm so grateful for this church and for what's happening here. And I want you to know something because you may not know it, but what you do when you give, it has a ripple effect. You didn't know that if you were giving back then that it was helping me in Cyprus reach souls over there and it's because of what you were doing then, we're still here. It's because of what you guys did then and what you guys do now, the Lord is using you to make a difference all over this city and that's what this night it's all about. That's about revival in our city and I know your pastor loves this city and he loves every person out there and it reminds me of a scripture in Philippians chapter 1, Paul says this, he says, "I give thanks whenever I think of you," that's what he says. Every time I think of you, I give thanks. He goes, "Because the work that God started in you, I'm confident that he's going to finish it." You've probably heard that verse before but you've never understood it in context. Paul was writing a thank you letter to the church in Philippi because they were giving and through their giving he was able to continue his work and through their giving he says your work is going to continue until the coming of Jesus Christ. So listen, the reason that we give, the reason that we sacrificially give is because when we give it's a ripple effect and that gift that you give, that sacrificial gift it continues to go and go and go. Paul says into the coming of Jesus Christ and so all of us in here today because the church in Philippi because they gave each and every one of us are part of their work. So every time you give, every time you sow into the ministry it's making a difference it's not just here but into our city and let me tell you something I know that you're making a difference in this city because you've made a difference in my church and in my life. So I'm so grateful for y'all, love you so much, Rod. Because of you, 16 people got baptized three months ago because of Union Houston. We're still baptized in people. So listen, we're going to give you a chance to give and I want you to, when you give,
I want you to think about how your gift can make a difference not just here but the lives of other people. There's ways that you can give, we have to list it behind me. There's QR codes you can utilize for that. There's a box in the back that you can give but listen I want you to know something, giving is holy. It's a holy thing. So when we give, I want you to stand up, come on stand up with me because I want to share something that I've been praying for as we prepare to give. As we understand that this gift is going to help multiply this house, it's going to reach the hurting, it's going to reach the people that need it. I'm reminded of a scripture in Ezekiel chapter 47 and Ezekiel chapter 47, Ezekiel was taken by God to a temple, to the very front door of the temple. And it says that water started to pour out of the temple. And God looked at it and said, "Hey, this water is going to go into the city." And that water is going to give nutrients and water to the trees and it's going to provide fruit and it's going to provide leaves so that people can use it so that they can find healing. Let me tell you something, when you give, you're the water that's pouring out of the temple and it's going out into the city. And because of your faithfulness and because of your generosity, people are going to find healing. They're going to find eyes, are going to get opened. Broken homes are going to get mended back together. People that have lost hope are going to find hope. And I believe that when you invest in this house, you invest in the Holy Spirit pouring out of this house like a river and into this city, reaching those who need healing. So today as you prepare to give, I want you to pray about what God would have you give This city is going to find hope again. So I want you to bow your head.
And I want you to ask God, what is it that you want me to do today? And then I want you to be obedient to that as I pray. Lord, right now as we come. Lord, I ask that you would continue the work that you're doing here. I ask that you would multiply the work that you're doing here. That you would bring healing from this place into the lives of everybody who comes in contact with this church. That every family that comes here, every person that walks through these doors that they would find breakthrough here. That they would meet you and experience the power of your Holy Spirit. I pray now Lord, over every person who's going to give. Over every person, Lord, who's going to sew into this city through this gift. God, I pray that your Holy Spirit would reveal what it is that you want them to do. And I pray, God, that you would do that right now. And I pray that they would be obedient to that. God, I thank you for what you're going to do. I thank you for all that you're going to do in this place. And we pray a blessing on every person that gives today. In Jesus' name, amen and amen. Come on, put your hands together right now. Put it together. Put it together. You guys, they should have it up for you to forgive right now. But before we do that today, we're going to pray. In the book of Acts, there was a revival that happened in Jerusalem and it only happened because a hundred people gathered to pray. It said in Acts chapter 2 that they gathered to pray in an upper room. Even though they were afraid, even though they were confused, even though they didn't know what was going to happen next, they didn't stop praying. And the Bible says that the Holy Spirit flooded out and saturated them. And the whole city saw a revival that day. Three thousand people experienced the gospel that day.
And then the Bible says in Acts chapter 2, 42 that they continued to devote themselves to prayer. It's like a sandwich. The revival is in the middle, but the outside, the important things that holds it together is your prayer. And listen, this is the house of prayer. I remember when Rod called me a couple of years ago and he said, "Hey, man, we're just going to gather on a tooth and we're just going to pray. And I think that God's going to do something and I've watched the Lord use this place and I've watched the Lord do things in this place that other people would love to see in their houses, but they're not seeing it because they don't pray like y'all. They don't pray like your pastor. So today when we pray, we're going to pray over something specific, something that I need you to hold on to. One word, redemption. Redemption. What does that mean? Redemption means to buy something back. That's what it means. It means to buy something. Now, look, I don't know about you, but I didn't grow up with a lot of money. I grew up poor. I'm from Greens Point. So whenever we bought things, we bought things on layaway. I ain't even going to lie. Listen, any OGs ever went to wiener's in Houston. Come on. Been to wiener's. You go to wiener's and as soon as school is over, you estimate how much is my foot going to grow because I got to get some shoes and I got to put it on layaway. We get some shoes and to all of you people who are better than me, you don't know what layaway is. That means you can't afford it, so you've got to put some on it. Just put a little money on it and hopefully you have the rest of the money when school starts so you can get it out of layaway prison. That's what it was. Every time we would put something on layaway, I'd go buy the Dion Sanders or the Herachis or those nice feelers. And I remember I'd put a little bit down. It wasn't me with my parents. I ain't got no job, but my parents would do it. And then every once in a while, I'd say, Dad, can we go to wiener's real quick? He goes, why? We ain't got no money. I want them to show me the shoes. And so we show to wiener's
like I was going to go see a homeboy that was locked up in prison. Hey, can you bring him out? Just come on, just bring him out. Just let me see him real quick. Come on. I want to make sure he's okay. I want to make sure everything's alright with my boy. And bring out the shoes. I'm like, there they go. Yeah. My foot's still, my foot's still okay. It's going to work. Alright, we'll be back. I'll see you. I'll see you. See you in a couple weeks. You know, it's something about when you can't afford to buy something. When something's too expensive and you just can't afford to buy it, have you ever been there? I remember I took my son to the mall. We walked by Louis Vuitton. He said, can we walk in there? I said, no sir. We are not walking out of this two weeks. Have you ever walked by something that you thought looked great and you're like, that's too expensive? You turned over that little, you did that little thing? I'll now put that back now. I'm just looking - Thank you. (audience laughing) Listen to me, God bought you. Listen to me, and it didn't matter how expensive you were, He paid the price. That's what redemption is. Redemption is that all of you in here, whether you wanna admit it or not, we're expensive. 'Cause the Bible says when we sin, that puts us at a deficit, we're in debt with God because of our sin, and we now owe God. Redemption is God saying, okay, I can't let you be in the back, I gotta bring you forward into my life. I gotta take you back with me, so I gotta pay the price. So today when we pray, I wanna read this scripture over you found in Ephesians chapter one. Paul says this, you and I, you, I don't care how bad it looks.
I don't care if you did something on the way over here that you're ashamed of. I don't care if you live in this life today, and you feel like you shouldn't be in this church. The Bible says through Jesus, not you, through Jesus we have redemption. Because of Jesus, not because of you, not because of your actions or how good you are, or how well you tidy up when you come to church. None of that matters, it's all because of Jesus. So listen, it says through Jesus, each one of us, we have redemption, we get bought back. Through Jesus and his blood, we receive the forgiveness of our sins according to the riches of his grace. Listen, I never grew up rich, but I have a heavenly Father who's rich. And I need you to know something right now. You might not feel like he would ever wanna buy you, oh, but he did. You might feel like the things you've done, make it so that he would turn over that price tax, oh, no, not him, not her. No, listen up, through the blood of Jesus, we get access to a very wealthy God. It says, he's rich, he's rich in grace. So I don't care who you are today. You have access to Jesus because he redeems you through the blood of Jesus, through the sacrifice of Jesus. You've been forgiven of all of your sins,
past, present, and future because you have a heavenly Father who's rich in grace. So today, listen to me. That's what we're gonna pray for 'cause some of you need to believe it. You're clapping, but you don't believe it. You got an enemy who's convincing you, telling you, nah, nah, you, that's a neighbor, not you, you've done too much. No, through Jesus Christ, you have redemption. And so today, that's what we're gonna pray for. Lord, remind us that we're redeemed. Remind us that we're not on layaway. Remind us that he purchased us through the blood of Jesus. And then let's take that message out into this city 'cause this city needs to hear it. They need to know that Jesus paid it all. I want you to buy your heads with me right now, and let's pray to Lord. Right now, we come to you Lord, we need this reminder. Would you remind each and every one of us today that we've been bought back, that Jesus bought us? God, we thank you that we're redeemed. We're thank you Lord, right now, that we are not so far gone that you wouldn't buy us back. We thank you that Jesus came and he died on that cross and he spilled his blood. Colossians says, we have been purchased and purchased not through gold or silver, but through the precious blood of Jesus.
So today, remind us Jesus, to those of us in here, Holy Spirit, would you whisper to these people in here that they are fully paid for. There's nothing better in life than knowing that the bill is paid. Jesus, you said it on the cross, it is finished. So today, we celebrate the redemption. Today, we celebrate what you've done for us on the cross. We're thankful that you've wiped away our sins. Come on, let 'em know. Thank you Lord, that you wiped away all of my sins. Thank 'em for buying you back from the realm of darkness and bringing you into his kingdom. Come on, right now, right where you're at. Just tell 'em, thank you for forgiving my sins. Lord, we thank you for what you've done through Jesus on the cross. Would that message saturate us tonight? Would that message go with us as we step into our city? And will we spread this message into a city that's dying to know that Jesus died for it? To a city that's dying to know that it's covered by the grace of God? We thank you for what you're gonna do. We thank you for redeeming the redeeming power that is only found in the blood of Jesus. And we thank you that you're using us to spread this message into our city so that we can spread the hope of Jesus. 'Cause it's only about Jesus.
Come on, tell 'em to thank you, thank you, Jesus. Jesus, we thank you. Jesus, we love you. Jesus, we're grateful for your sacrifice. Jesus, we're grateful for all that you do. Thank you for being a friend. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for seeking the lost sheep. Thank you for coming and reminding me that no matter what it is that I've done, you have bought me back through what you have done on the cross. And so today we lift up the name of Jesus because it is only through the name of Jesus that we will ever find salvation. And so we pray all of this in the beautiful, wonderful, matchless name of Jesus. Come on, say it with me, amen. Come on, there's something about the name of Jesus, isn't it? Come on, lift 'em up right now, let's worship 'em. Let's give 'em all the praise that we got. Come on. ♪ I'm never going back to the way I was ♪ ♪ Looking what the Lord has done ♪ ♪ I'm never going back to the way I was ♪ ♪ Looking what the Lord has ♪ ♪ I'm never going back to the way I was ♪ ♪ Looking what the Lord has done ♪ ♪ I'm never going back to the way I was ♪ ♪ Hallelujah ♪

amen, there's just something about that name, there's an essence, an instance of freedom, of healing, of compassion, and there's someone walked in here today feeling as if life was over, as if no one will ever understand you, I know a name that will understand you, I know a name that wants to have you, I know a name that can put you back together, and his name is Jesus, Jesus. Last night I began by saying the names of God, but tonight it's about Jesus, because it was Jesus that redeemed us, it was Jesus that bought us back, it was Jesus's blood that broke the yoke, so let's pray in the mighty name of Jesus, may the Holy Spirit move in this place, mightily in this place, just like in the book of Acts, Lord, give healing to those that need healing, give breakthrough to those that need breakthrough, give, give the person that's walked in here with no hope, the hope they need for tomorrow, Lord, the those that are down and out with faith, Lord, give them the strength of faith, Lord, for those that have lost their way straight their past, Lord, in this moment Holy Spirit we need you to be the communicator, the healer, the one that Holy Spirit, move in this place and refresh us. Re-invigorate us. Give us a fresh wind for that fresh fire that we've been talking about. So that we can not just keep it for ourselves, but we can go out into our city and share it with our neighbors, our friends, our community, our coworkers. Jesus, move in this place tonight is a special night. It's a special night in which there's a divine appointment where Jesus has met us here. Soften our hearts and open our ears so that we may hear you clearly. Let's shut our minds off to everything else and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to us. And I pray this in Jesus' mighty name and the church said... Amen, amen, amen. You made me see this. My goodness, Ritchie, my goodness! That was beautiful.
That was beautiful. That was church. That was church. So glad that you guys are here if you're visiting. My name is Rob Vargas. I'm the lead pastor here and ten years ago, we're doing this because we wanted to celebrate with our city. We wanted to share with whoever wanted to join us. Whoever wanted to join us via the airwaves, what God has done over the last ten years. God has been faithful to us. God has been miraculous to us. God has done amazing things in this place and with us. But to just boast about it and to tell people that you didn't do this would be not right. This is about boasting in the Lord and sharing what God has done with the rest of the world. And so maybe you're here tonight and you need a fresh spirit, you need a fresh encouragement, you need something to steer you up, you need fresh vision. Someone needs fresh vision in a new direction. Well tonight, God's going to meet you in that place. And this also includes every man and woman who is watching us right now through the panda app there in Carcera, they're behind bars. But I'm going to tell you some Union Houston, you need to help me welcome our Union Prison Campus. Hey, we love you, you hear that? We can't see you, but we can feel you right here in our hearts and we love you and like I say, every Sunday, we can't wait for the day that you walk in through those doors. You've got a home here at Union Houston. We are in revival nights and each night there's a specific theme. Last night we talked about repentance, Pastor Jeremy delivered a powerful word on repentance tonight. The whole theme is redemption.
And it's special to me because I am the poster judge, just like all of us, but I have a special attachment to be in redeemed. I was so lost and broken that what God has done in my life is nothing short than a redemption story. I never imagined in a million years that I would be leading a church. I always found myself as a business owner out there in the workforce, making a lot of money. And here I am, richer than I could ever be with a million dollars in the bank. Amen. I love you guys. Listen tonight, the Bible says in the book of Proverbs that a friend should love at all times, but a brother is born for a time of adversity. And we began this church in 2016 and two years after we launched, we were gaining success, we were gaining traction, we were growing, the finances had settled. We talked a little bit tonight with our pastor friends about the struggles of finances in the early years. It seems like churches always have a struggle with finances in the early years. Let me tell you something. It was rough, but we had come over that hump and we were in 2018 and I found myself in a season that was so dark. In a season where I thought I'd be further along the way, even though God didn't tell me that. It was my idea. I found myself comparing myself to others. I found myself comparing successes of different pastors to different churches, and I found myself trying to be someone I wasn't, worried about the critics, the cynics, the haters, and it caused the depression. And I found myself disillusioned. During that time, I befriended my good friend and in that time, he was. where, hey, it's okay to be you. You can you can do like you have to do the church according to
how you like things. It's not not everybody has the same blueprint. It's okay to do things a little bit different because we all passed a different context. And it was during that season that that brother was born for a time of diversity. I never thought in a million years that I would find myself in this situation. It was that words of wisdom and sometimes just like the Prophet said, it was that iron sharpens iron, right? Sometimes he told me things I didn't want to hear, right? But that's what a brother does. And over the years, we've grown closer. You know, I lost my father during 2020 during COVID. And it was one of those times where we were so isolated. Everybody's in their homes, right? And it was it was interesting because I had friends call me and I had friends text me. But this brother didn't text me or call me. He would either insist on FaceTiming me or sending me videos because it was important to have that human connection. And so this is this is the type of person my brother is. A person that's not just going to be there in the good times. He's going to walk with you in adversity. And so now, before I introduce him, he doesn't know I'm going to do this, by the way. But he's getting ready to launch in the future soon a church. He's living in Indianapolis. God's called him to Indianapolis and he's looking to plant a life-given church like ours. He's called to a very similar type of people that we are, amen? And what I'd like to do is first of all, let me introduce you my good friend and brother, Pastor Mekong Carter. Would you come up here and Pastor April? I need you to come up here too. And if I can get my pastors to come up here as well. We look modern, but we do some things a little bit old school, as you can tell. And so what we want to do is we want to anoint them, to send them off to their city, to give them strategies, to give them vision, to give them the faith, the hope, the endurance that you need as church. Lord, I gird up their legs, gird up their legs with faith, Lord, so that they can run the race that you have set before them, Lord. Give them a heart that's tender, that's tender for the people of that city that are called, that they are called too, that they're meant to walk with and see the breakthrough in that city in the same way, the same spirit, the same power, the same endurance that you've given this church, and it's people that you give to Pastor Mekon and Pastor April, and that you bring them the type of people that are going to run the race with them with endurance and strength and the power of prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit, Lord. We anoint them and send them off to that city, but we anoint them also with protection over their home, over their health, over their finances,
over their mental well-being, and that God bring people into their lives to encourage them, to walk with them, to be there with them on those days that are lonely, not just to ask something from them, but to bring them a simple meal and to sit with them and to listen to them. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, and as pastors, that can be heavy at times where we carry the burdens of an entire city on our shoulders, but right now we ask the host, Lord of hosts, to encamp them and to walk with them and to enlarge their territory wherever they may be, place them in the right place, connect them with the right people, and send them the right resources because their timing is now. You've called them to this city. You've called them to such a time. Let that time be anointed and appointed by you. Jesus, So we ask you that you walk with them and that you enlighten their path. Just like in Ephesians one, with the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, we send them to preach the gospel and make disciples and raise dead lives in Indianapolis. The place has been called by God, has been anointed by God and will be destined by God. And I pray this in Jesus' mighty name and give it up for my friend and brother, Pastor Meekah Carter. (audience applauding) Give it to him, give him the name. Before you could be seated, you could be seated. Geez, I've known your pastor a long time. When I met him, I was on top of the world, had amazing church, multi-thousand, multi-campus, preaching all over the globe. And I was like a mentor to him and just tried to give him some advice on building a church, planting a church,
strategizing with the church. And me and your pastor has been through some stuff. I mean, when I met him, he had red hair. It was combed over and he wore skinny jeans and didn't have as many tattoos as he does now. And there's always been something different about him, something different about him. And over the years, I did, I got to talk to you and pray with you when you lost your dad. I got to talk with you and pray with you when you were battling that depression. I got to talk with you and pray with you when you were just praying for your own family and your own kids, I got to talk to you and pray with you when days, when you felt like quitting, days when you didn't think you were gonna make it, days when you weren't sure what to do. And I preached on a lot of places. I preached at a lot of amazing churches, but I was standing over there and I was just thanking God because when my life imploded and I lost my church and my wife was battling breast cancer at the same time because of sin in my life, you didn't walk away. You said I'm your brother, when they lied about me online, you said I'm not walking away. Picture of redemption. The fact that I'm staying on the stage is proof of God's faithfulness and proof of God's power.
And I know you're different and the Lord was speaking to me about you and what he was telling me was, and you're already doing this, but continue to embrace your difference because it's the different things that God's gonna use in this hour. People are tired of the cookie cutter blended khaki, average, weak, watered down person. They're looking for someone authentic that loves Jesus that's not backing down from who they are, that gives people the permission to be who they are. Thank God for you. And Sarah, I heard the Lord, he spoke to me about you and he was telling me that you're a carrier, that all you know how to do is carry. You've been carrying a lot of things, a lot of weight, a lot of things on your shoulders. You've carried your marriage, you've carried your kids, you're still carrying your kids, you've carried this church, you've carried a lot of other issues that people don't know about. You carried through addiction, you carried through pain, you carried through uncertainty. And I felt like the Lord was telling me, he's gonna carry you. You're entering in a season where God's gonna carry you, where it's gonna be lighter, you're not gonna be able to explain it, but he's gonna carry you into places
you didn't think you'd get invited to. He's gonna carry you in the rooms that you didn't think you were qualified for. He's gonna carry you into seasons that you didn't even know would show up. There's some prayers that he's getting ready to answer. There's some things in your life that you didn't think would ever come to pass, but he's about to carry it. He's gonna carry the promise of God back to your house. He's gonna carry the authority of God back to your house. You're getting ready to be carried. (applause) It's like giving a well a tic-tac. And I don't know what else to say. I mean, the layaway preacher, I don't know where he went. But he preached the pain off the walls already on redemption. And I'm supposed to be preaching on redemption, so we might as well just pray and go home. Now, we ain't going to do that. I'm here on assignment. If you're taking notes tonight, I'm going to be preaching a message that I've entitled. The line has been crossed. The line has been crossed. It's my custom to pray before I preach, so if you can bow your head and close your eyes, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you, God, for this opportunity. God, I believe there's people in this room that
need to hear this message, that you sent me here on assignment. So God, use every broken piece of my life to bring healing to others. And God, I pray that I would declare this with boldness and with power and the authority that you've given me through the power of the Holy Spirit. God, I also pray that there may be people in this room or watching online that are incarcerated or streaming across the globe that may be even watching this at a later time that don't know you as Lord and Savior. But God, I pray that by the end of this message, they would gladly accept your invitation to do life with you forever. So God, prepare our hearts and prepare our minds to not just be inspired but to be transformed. In Jesus' mighty name, amen, amen. I'm going to just read two sections of Scripture, and then I'm just going to go guns blazing, because that's the only way I know how to preach. Luke chapter 5, verse 12 through 15, it says this, "In one of the villages, Jesus met a man with advanced case of leprosy, and when the man saw Jesus, he bowed with his face to the ground, begging to be healed. Lord, he said, "If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean." Jesus reached out and touched him, and he said, "I am willing, be healed." And instantly, the leprosy disappeared. Then Jesus instructed him not to tell anyone what had happened, and he said, "Go to the priest and let him examine you
and take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy." And this would be a public testimony that you have been cleaned, cleansed. But despite Jesus' instructions, the report of his power spread even faster, and vast crowds came to hear him preach and to be healed of their diseases. Another verse I want to read to you is found in Matthew, chapter 10, verse eight. It says this, this is Jesus talking to the disciples, heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons, freely you have received, freely give. I want to talk about this leper tonight because I think a lot of times in our society, even in church, when we talk about revival, a lot of times when we talk about revival, we talk about it in raising of the dead or miracle signs and wonders. But one thing I noticed about what Jesus was telling is disciples and this text in particular is Jesus gives the disciples a clear command. He says, heal the sick, cast out devils, cleanse the lepers. Now what's interesting is we don't talk about cleansing the lepers too much in the body of Christ. We talk about casting out devils, there's deliverance. We talk about raising the dead, seeing dead things come back to life. We love to pray and lay hands on the sick
and see them recover. But this concept about cleansing the lepers is often not talked about. And maybe it's because we don't have people with actual leprosy walking around these days. I don't know if you've seen someone with leprosy here recently, but I guarantee you, you've seen someone who's been walking with a different kind of leprosy, it just don't look like the type that goes on your skin. See this leper, this leper was interesting because he knew exactly what was wrong with him. It was identifiable on his skin, he could see the legions, the leprosy was a skin disorder and it was labeled that you would be unclean. Anywhere you went, you had a shout unclean. You couldn't go to the local grocery store, you couldn't go to family functions. Matter of fact, you had to be quarantined like we were in 2018, huh? 2020, yes. Good God almighty. Remember that? We had to be six feet apart, couldn't come to church, couldn't public gather. We were scared to get groceries showing up at our house, we had to wipe it down because we thought it was contaminated by the bags. Someone sneezed, you thought they were, woo! Back up, homie. Leprosy, it's like that, you couldn't go anywhere,
you couldn't hug your family, you couldn't hug your mom, "You couldn't celebrate Christmas. "I know they did it in the Bible, but just bear with me. "There were things you couldn't do "because you were left to be around only other people "who had the same disease as you." And this leper, he knew his condition. He knew he was unclean. He knew he was sick. He knew that people thought he had sinned his life because he had leprosy. They thought you must have done something really bad for God to curse you with leprosy. And in this text, what's interesting about him is he doesn't have to be convinced that he's unclean. Imagine living with people keeping their distance from you and eventually you don't just believe, "I have something wrong with me." You begin to believe there is something wrong with me. And this is what's happening in our culture today. It's not that they don't think that there's something wrong with them. They think that there's something wrong inside of them. And that's called shame. Guilt says, "I did something bad." Shame says, "I am something bad." And I wonder how long this man had been treated as something to avoid before he started believing he was somebody nobody would want. See, what's interesting about this text
is he doesn't ask God if he was able. He asks God if he was willing. He didn't question if God could do it. He questioned if God would do it. And there's a lot of people that are living a life not questioning that God doesn't have the power to heal them, not questioning that God doesn't have the power to restore their family, not questioning that God doesn't have the power to forgive them, but they do question what God. I know he did it for her, but would he do it for me? I know he did it for them, but would he do it for me? Because if you knew what I did, you wouldn't do what he did for them for me. So he approaches Jesus with if you are willing, not can you, but would you? And Jesus does the unthinkable. He doesn't just say be healed, which would have been the easier route. He doesn't just look at the man from a distance and go, "Sure, my man, you're clean now." He doesn't do that. The Bible says that Jesus touches him before he heals him. He wanted to make a visual reminder to people that I'm not ashamed of you, that I want to be with you, that I will reach out to you, that I will touch you, that I will cleanse you, and you ain't got to clean it all up before you can get a touch from me. The man everyone else backed away from,
Jesus moved toward, touch, then cleansing. He touched him in his uncleanness, and that's what the gospel is. That's what redemption looks like. And some of us have spent years telling God why he shouldn't want us, because he knows the whole story. But can I just tell you this? He may know the whole story, but he's still reaching. It's the God that we serve, that there's nothing that you've done, there's nothing too far gone, there's no secret that you have. And the truth is, people know a version of your story, but he knows the whole thing. He knows everything you thought, he knows every intention that you did, he knows every motivation you've had, he knows every deep dark secret that you haven't shared with anybody, and he would still look right at you. And in spite of you, say, I'll touch what others will avoid. Because the power of redemption leaves no room for shame. Let me say that again. The power of redemption leaves no room for shame. You know what I find in church? People can be saved and still shamed. There are people in this room that are not living to their full potential,
because they have bought the lie that they can be saved, but still live in shame. But this expensive blood of Jesus doesn't just forgive you of your sin, it takes away all guilt, all shame, and all condemnation. (congregation applauding) Let me say it another way. Being redeemed isn't just God forgiving you for what you did, redemption is God restoring what brokenness tried to steal. Did you just hear what I said? Redemption is just not God paying a price for you to forgive you, it's paying a price for you to put you back in the authority, to put you back in community. See, with the leper, his cleansing wasn't just about him making a statement saying he's good, No, no, no, no. Now what happened for that leper? He got to go back to community. He got to go back to relationship. He got to go back in the temple and worship. He got to go back to belonging. He got to walk with dignity. He got to believe for a future. He got to believe he could have a purpose. Because redemption is just not about God forgiving you. It's about him restoring what brokenness tried to steal from you. And there's some of you that have been living a broken record life because you've bought the lie that God loved you enough to forgive you,
but he's not good enough to get you to where you messed up too much that you can't get there now. But that's a lie from the pit of hell. Because God's redeeming power is not just good enough to forgive you, but to restore you. Reminds me of a woman that was caught in the act of adultery. They bring her out. They're getting ready to stoner. And they ask Jesus, the law of Moses says that she's supposed to die if she's caught in the act of adultery. But what do you say? And we know Jesus, he gets down in the dirt. He writes some stuff down. We don't know for sure what he wrote. But what we do know is in that moment, every man that had a stone in their hand began to drop it because they realized, wait a minute, I sinned just like this lady. But what I've realized about that story and the redemptive power of God is God doesn't have to erase your story to rewrite your story. You know what's interesting is we still know her as the woman caught in the act of adultery. He doesn't go back and rewrite the narrative on her life. And some of you keep thinking because you have something attached to your history that it will be the limiting factor in your future. Let me say it another way. God doesn't have to rewrite what happened to redeem what happened. Some of you keep discrediting what God wants to do in your life because you have a narrative that was written about you that you can't erase. I live with this every day. I got Google reviews everywhere that say all kinds of stuff about me.
And there's been a season in my life where I would just say, God, make it go away. And you know what he told me? I could, but I don't have to. I can keep it there in the book so that when people see you, they can see the glory of God revealed in you because it will only be by His grace and not your effort. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you did that. So you went there. So you live like that. So you did that thing. So you're not proud of it and you shouldn't be because redemption doesn't call sin good. But what redemption says is what happened, what happened was real. But what happened with me doesn't get determined what happens through me. Yeah, sin, I did that thing. It's real. It's ugly. It's nasty. It's dirty. I wish I could avoid it. I wish I could take it back. I wish I could rewrite it. But the beautiful thing about redemption is that scars and redemption can coexist. Peter can still deny Jesus and still become the preacher of the first message of the church where 3,000 people get saved because redemption allows our scars and redemption to coexist. That's why Paul can be the same person that persecuted the church, had Christians killed, and also become the apostle Paul and write most of the New Testament. It's because of this, the woman at the well can still have her history of five husbands and be living with a man she's not married to and still become someone who tells an entire town about the Jesus that changed her life and watched the entire town get turned upside down because the woman with a past that everyone knew also saw a God see something
that no one else saw. See redemption, it doesn't require a spotless past because the redeeming power of Jesus produces a different future. This is what's so beautiful about his redemptive blood. [BLANK_AUDIO] This is why you don't have to be ashamed of your story. This is why if you walked in here and you felt so disqualified and so unworthy, you are so wrong about God. You are so wrong about the love of God because if he wanted to send you hell, he would have done it a long time ago. But he's been waiting patiently for a moment where you would just accept the fact that you can't buy yourself back but by the precious blood of Jesus that covers all of your sin, he will take all of that shame no matter what it is. The second thing that I noticed about this particular story is that redemption leaves no room for self-righteousness. In this text that I read, everyone knew what to do with a leper. If a leper showed up, they knew what to do. They knew to keep their distance. They knew to not get close. They knew not to touch them. They were conditioned to keep your distance. They knew that they were unclean. They knew I'm clean and you're dirty.
Dirty people stay over there, clean people, stay over here. They're essentially was a line. And what Jesus does in this text, what Jesus does is something shocking. He crosses the line. Touch three people and say the line has been crossed. Jesus touched, he crosses the line. He says, I know there used to be a line here that divided clean and unclean but I'm going to cross this line and I'm gonna be the clean that touches the unclean so that everyone can be trained to no longer avoid when I'm coming after. (congregation clapping) See, sometimes we've been clean so long that we've forgotten what it's like to need cleansing. Sometimes we've been clean so long. We learned our new spirit language. We've served in the church. We've got a title in front of our name now. We've been coming and bringing people. We've lead in community groups. We've been doing this thing a long time but we've forgotten where we were when Jesus found us. We've forgotten what he forgave. We forgot the thoughts that nobody knows. We forgot the seasons that nobody saw. We forgot the mercy that we received and suddenly we start looking at other people's visible brokenness
as though we are in a different category but we're not. You see there is no VIP in the redemption section. (congregation clapping) We live in an era and a culture where you can pay for special access. It's called VIP privileges. You go to a concert, you get the VIP pass, you get to sit up front, you get to be around the artist, you get to take your picture. Geez, in the green room, it's the VIP section. But there are no payment plans to get redemption. You can't pay more to get redeemed. You can't send less to get redeemed. You can't have less brokenness to enter into a VIP section. No, no, no, it's equal playing field in redemption. Romans 3, verse 23, for all have sinned and falls short of the glory God. What that means is there's different stories, there's different failures, there's different consequences, there's different levels of visibility, but the same need for a savior. (congregation clapping) This is why there's no VIP section in redemption because nobody can pay for their own seat. You can't pay for your own seat with Jesus. No, no, no, you can't pay, Jesus had to pay because you could never pay. So I don't get to look across the room at someone else's story and think I belong here more
than they do. No, if the blood paid for my seat and the blood paid for your seat, what makes me think I get to decide whether you have a seat at the table or not? Your sin might have been private, theirs might have been public. Your sin, your addiction may have been acceptable, theirs may have destroyed the reputation. Your marriage may have survived your dysfunction and their marriage didn't. Your failure may not have made the news and maybe theirs did, but hidden brokenness doesn't make you less dependent on grace. The fact that your leprosy you don't need Jesus to make you clean. It reminds me a man named Naaman. In the Bible, there's a guy named Naaman, he's got leprosy too, but people don't know about it. He's conquering stuff, he's taking territory. He's one of the best soldiers in the army, and his armor covers his leprosy. And it just so happens that one day when he's changing a servant in his house sees that he has leprosy and says, hey, we need to take him to the prophet so he can get healed. And this man ends up dipping in the Jordan River seven times and gets healed from leprosy. But what's so crazy is in the church, we got people that are Naaman.
Yeah, you're addicted, but you can still keep your family afloat. Yeah, you still look at your porn, but you come to church and act like you're holy. Yeah, just 'cause no one knows what you did last night doesn't mean God don't know what you did last night. And why is it that we think we get to put a stamp on who gets the grace of God and who doesn't? Just because their sin is more visible than your sin. Are we serious? There is equal playing field at the cross. In other words, be careful judging somebody because you can see what they're battling. Your mass being less visible doesn't make your need for Jesus any less. The interesting thing about redemption is you would think that if Jesus moved towards your mess, then we would be people that would move towards other people's mess. But what I found is we only move towards messes that don't make us uncomfortable. As long as your mess I'm comfortable with, then I'll move towards you. But if I got hurt attached to your mess, if I got pain attached to your mess, if I got issues attached with your mess, that's why we're easy to give grace to one person and withhold it from another person. It's easy for us to say, oh, that person? Oh, for sure, we got, just bear with me.
We all got people in our life that we know some trash that they did. And we look them right in the face and be like, God's got you covered, you good. It's going to work out. The Lord has forgiven you. And then there's other people who could be our sibling, could be our kid. It's amazing, so when else this kid comes into church and we say, you know, God's still got a plan for your life and what you did that, man, you're not too far gone. But then when it's your kid, it's amazing, it's amazing how when it's your or flip flop, when it's your son, you want all the grace of God for him. When it's your husband, oh God, if you could do anything Lord, change him. My God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all, we can ask, think, or imagine the devil is a liar. For God will use everything, the enemy meant for Pat and turn it around for your, we start quoting scriptures. But then let it be someone in the news. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Different right. Then let it be someone who's been saved for a little bit. It's amazing how quick grace evaporates because we get Christian amnesia and we start picking and choosing as if we have the authority to decide who gets to sit at this table. We didn't pay for no ticket
since we didn't earn no redemption. We definitely don't get to hoard this redemption. And I wonder if Jesus isn't the same to sit with them or to touch them, why are we ashamed to sit beside them? If Jesus believed they're worth reaching, who are we to decide if they're worth avoiding? We cannot preach whoever so will come. Lord, we want revival. Give us the broken people. We pray for the lost, we pray for the broken. But if God answers that prayer, (congregation laughing) and they actually show up, (congregation laughing) think about what you're praying. (congregation laughing) I want the people, not that just have abortions. I want the people that did the abortion. I don't want the people that did the drugs. I want the person that sold the drug I don't just want the girl that was sex trafficking. I want the pimp that was out there selling them See if we're going to not pick a side. We got to save this grace It's for one than this grace has to be all there's an evil playing field at this table And that's what this redemption this line that Jesus crossed because he was saying if we want broken people they're going to look broken. I need some keys can we get some music up in here. But if I'm honest I think the church is okay with broken. I think the church is okay with broken people. We don't know what to do with leper people. See what a leper is with someone basically who was canceled. Cancelled from community. Cancelled from the church. Cancelled from being liked. Cancelled from being loved. Cancelled from being around. They're the type of people that we don't want at the party. They're the type of people that we don't really want in the church. They're the type of people we don't
want to give the mic back to. They're the type of people that we don't want. Oh I heard about them. I know about them. Let me keep my distance from them because I'm afraid that if I'm associated with them then they're going to start looking at me like I'm one of we're okay with brokenness as long as it's not cancelness. What I found in the scripture is that redemption leaves no room for silence. It's interesting in Luke 15 or Luke chapter 5 verse 15 it says this, "Yet the news about him spread all the more so the crowds of people came to hear him and be healed of their sickness." It's pretty simple. A man encounter Jesus, a man gets cleansed and then the news spread. One encounter begins affecting more than one person. Now crowds are coming. Listen to me. Revival is what happens when redemption gets loud. Listen to me. We keep asking God for revival. Ain't nobody's asking? Cleanse the lepers. We keep asking God for revival. Come God, come God, come God. He goes I will just get loud about redemption. Get loud about my grace. Get loud about my love. Get loud. Go to the people that you've already unqualified in your mind. Have them sit with you in church. Yeah, go to the person that hurts you the most. Have them sit with you in church. Go to the person that you've canceled in your mind. Get them back in church so they can hear about the love of Jesus and you be someone that touches them before they ever change. You be someone that loves them before they ever change. You be someone that loves them before they ever get clean and sober. You be someone that loves them before they ever stop that habit. You be someone that loves them before they ever change their behavior. Why? Because the redeemed of the Lord have to say. So let me ask you, what line are you not crossing? For some of you, it's the line of shame. You want what God has for you, but you've convinced yourself that he doesn't actually have it for you. You've heard about God's promises, but the pain in your past kind of keeps you paralyzed. You've heard about what God has done in other people's lives, but every day you wake up and the enemy reminds you of what you did and who all left and what that means now. I've got to put that on the application now. What What does that mean now? yeah i was married but now i'm living back at my parents house because we're divorced now and what does that mean now i made some bad decisions and my kids don't want to talk to me anymore but i'm trying to change what does that mean now
i made some dumb decisions and i you know i was i was sleeping around i was just giving myself to whoever wanted it and but but now i'm trying to clean it up and it's not too sure that anyone would ever want me now there's pictures of me online you know i used to do only fans and people have seen me and people have seen the stuff that i've done i don't know if any men would ever love me now and so you hear about these stories but if you're really honest when you go to bed it's amazing god but i'm not too sure if it will happen for me and some of you tonight it's time to cross the line put yourself in proximity where god can touch you and cleanse you and when he cleanses you guess what he does he shows you off to the world so that they can see well only a touch from god can do for some of you it's that it's the shame line for others of you if you're honest you're self-righteous how do you know because you've already made judgments about people before ever giving them a chance you're self-righteous you love god you just don't love them you're self-righteous you believe it for you but you're not sure you want to believe it for them maybe it's too painful maybe it hurts too bad to allow someone to be forgiven for what they did maybe it's too close and personal and that thing that they did maybe it's just too hard maybe it's too painful maybe it feels unjust to really let that thing go and really pray them into the kingdom but you want revival you want revival in your home you want revival in your city you want revival in your world it's going to take you to put the stone down
and recognize there's no VIP sections at the cross that your sin and their sin is the same sin and there's others of you it's time to cross the line stop doing this thing your way stop living only for what gives you pleasure and you step over into relationship with Jesus and die to your sinful nature and let God do a change in your life everyone standing to your field all across this room holy spirit is moving and i'm just going to do something very quick if you're here tonight hold on team if you're here tonight every eye open every head up you've been carrying shame a lot of shame you hate what has cost you you hate what is done you hate the damage it did to people you loved and you tell you i can't change it i can't change it i can't change it i can't change it but if you're honest you've eliminated yourself from the mercy of God really being able to rewrite your story and some of you you know it here you just don't know it here you keep telling yourself he can rewrite your story but when you go to bed at night you're like i don't thank you to write my story if you're here tonight we're going to do a leper cleansing party and we're going to get you clean tonight so you can walk out of here shame off you shame off I just want you to come to this altar right now. If that's you, if that's you, I just want you to come to this altar. You're gonna come close, come close, come close, make room. There's tons of people. There is no other name. There is no other name. Hold on, hold on, hold on. You don't have to carry it anymore. Every bit of it has been canceled on that cross. I know you hate it. I know if you could change it, you would. It's the cleansing power of God right now.
More. Thank you, Lord. Those of you that came down, I want you to lift your hands towards heaven like you're getting ready to receive something. All the anxiety that's based off your past, all the fear that's associated with your past, all the pain that's associated with your past. You've said sorry so many times to God. You've said sorry so many times to them. You've said sorry so many times to yourself. You've said sorry. You've said sorry. If you could pay it back, you would. If you could pay it all back, you would. People's held it against you. People remind you about it. It feels like every time I take a step forward, someone tells me about my past and it's just like it pushes me back. But this is the beautiful thing about our Jesus because he pays that debt. Lord, right now all across this room, I pray the cleansing power of Jesus over every man, every woman, the lies that you are disgusting, the lies that you are not worthy, the lies that you will not have a future, the lies that your past will always dominate you, the lie that says you're broken and unusable, the lie that says God can't do anything in your life, we cancel that assignment by the mighty name of Jesus. You are a warrior. You are a mighty woman of God. You are cleansed by the power of God. You are a world changer. There's a prophet in you. There's a priest in you. There's a voice in you. There's a world changer in you. I don't care what the devil says about you. What the enemy meant for bad God will turn it around and use it for your good. So God, I pray for strength. I pray for peace. Anxiety, you have to leave. I pray for rest. I pray for reconciliation. I pray, God, that you restore everything that the enemy stole from them. Restore it, Lord. Restore families. Restore relationship. Restore joy. Restore peace. My God, I pray for the mighty name of Jesus. For those of you that are up here, I felt like the Lord was telling me, there's some of you who have been, you can't sleep. It's been keeping you up. You can't sleep. You can't. It's like you can't get any rest. Some of you have been losing weight by it. Some of you have been just so anxious. If that's you, go ahead and put your hands down. Everyone put your hands down. But if that's you, when I said that you can't rest, you've been losing your appetite. You can't sleep. If that's you, I just need to put your hands up. I just need to put your hands up. I know there's many of you. I know there's many of you. You can't sleep. You can't sleep. You can't sleep. We pray rest by the mighty name of Jesus. For every single person that has their hand lifted, that cannot sleep, we come against that spirit. right now, God. And we ask God for peace that surpasses all understanding. It won't make sense in your mind. You're going to wake up tomorrow, brand new. There will be no more anxious thoughts. There will be nothing keeping you up at night. You're going to sleep like a baby today. Why? Because the spirit of God is coming upon you. And who the sun sets free is free indeed. You've been bought back. The enemy doesn't have your mind anymore. The enemy can't have your thoughts anymore. The enemy can't have your rest anymore. You've been bought back. The enemy don't get to keep you up at night. You don't even don't get
to keep you up at night. You've been bought back by the mighty power of the Holy Spirit. Wow. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Holy Ghost. Thank you, Holy Ghost. Thank you, Holy Ghost. Thank you, Holy Ghost. Thank you, Holy Ghost. Right now, Holy Ghost, Holy Spirit begin to cleanse the parts. All right. Okay. This is what I feel like the Lord told me just right now when I was standing there. And this is going to take courage. This is going to take courage when I'm getting ready to ask. I'm just going to be obedient. But what I felt like the Lord was saying was, there's some of you up here right now. It's the secret that's making you sick. I don't know how else to say it, but it's the secret that's making you sick. It's the thing you haven't told anybody. It's the thing that you said, I'm just going to take that thing to the grave. I don't know if it's a thing you're keeping from your spouse. I don't know if it's a thing you're keeping from your girlfriend or your boyfriend. I don't know if it's a thing. I don't know who you're keeping it from, but it's the secret that's making you sick. And here's what the Lord says. Confess your sin one to another so you could be healed. I'm not asking to tell me. I'm not asking to tell anyone in this room necessarily. I do think that those of you who know what I'm saying, you need the strength to confess. You need the strength to get it out. So God's asking you to come out of hiding. The confession you'll do later. But some of you, you need the strength of God to get it out. And if you're here tonight, okay, Lord, if you're here tonight and you're saying, that's what I just need to lift your hands in here. I don't care where you're at in this room. I got to get it out. I got to get it out. I got to get it out. This is going to be heavy hands. But come on, you can't stay bound anymore. I got to get it out. I got to get it out. If that's your, I need you to lift your hands in here. I need you to lift the hand in here. I need you to put it up. I need you to put it up. I need you to put up. Thank you. Thank you for your honesty. Thank you for your boldness. The devil's being defeated right now as your hands are being lifted. You haven't even opened your mouth yet, but you're telling the devil you don't get you don't get to keep me bound no more. You ain't even free yet, but you're telling the devil you don't get to keep me bound anymore. If you're standing next to someone with a hand Let them know that we're in this together.
Let them know that we're gonna get through it. You're gonna get through it. God's not done with you. If you're standing next to someone in their hand, is up, put your hand on their shoulder. And let them know that God is not done with them. God, I pray for the strength to confess what they've been trying to hide. The devil is a liar. Give us a strength so we can get healed. Give us a strength so we can get it out. Give us a strength so it doesn't keep us bound. Some of you have been holding on to it for 10 years, 15 years, 20 years. The devil is not gonna keep you captive another day. Yet I've got quoted Ocea. So here's what I need you to do. Those of you who raised their hand and say, I need this strength. Here's what I need you to do. I need you to really pray for this strength. And I really need you to find someone trusted that you can tell. Maybe it's a pastor here at this church. Maybe it's your spouse. Maybe it's a best friend. But you need to find someone you can tell. I promise you, when you get it out, you're gonna experience a healing. You didn't know you ever was gonna experience.
The devil lied to you and said you're too far gone. And that secret's too dark and it's too nasty. And it's too disgusting, but he's been holding it over your head. But when you get that out, God will free you. God will free you. And last thing, I'm gonna do this last thing. Ah, darling. I got two things, I'm sorry. Thing number one. Let's do this. If you're here tonight and Jesus is not your Lord and savior, but you have been sensing his presence. You have been sensing his power. Maybe he's been cleansing you from your shame and you haven't even stepped into relationship with him. Maybe he has been giving you peace and you haven't even stepped into relationship with him. He's that good. He will touch you before he heals you. But if you're here tonight and you experience a touch of God, but you're not in relationship with him. He is not your Lord and savior. I do not wanna let this night pass by without giving you that opportunity. So if you're here today and you'd say pastor, will you please pray for me? 'Cause I want to give my life to Jesus completely. I'm not holding anything back. Maybe this is you giving your life to Jesus
for the very first time, or maybe this is the first time in a long time because you've been doing life your own way, but you're realizing your way will never work. It never has worked, it never will work. It's time for you to lay your life down so that the old can pass and the new can come. If you're here tonight and you would say pastor, please pray for me 'cause I wanna surrender completely my life to Jesus. Will you lift your hand in the air? Be brave tonight and lift your hand. Yup, hands are going up all across this room. Hands are going up all, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, hands are going up all across this room. Hands are going up all across this room. Thank you for your honesty. Church, would you repeat this prayer after me, especially those that live to their hands? And they say, "Dear Jesus, come into my heart. "Forgive me of my sins and make me new. "Help me to live for you and to love you "all the days of my life. "Today I'm new. "Today I'm forgiven. "Today I'm free. "Today I'm cleansed. "Today I'm redeemed. "In Jesus' mighty name, amen and amen." Come on, let's give the Lord a shout of praise up in here.
(upbeat music) And lastly, and I'm gonna get about it here. But if you're here tonight, and you say, "Lord, use me to cleanse the lepers." I'm not going back to work the same way. I'm not going back to my family the same way. I'm not going back in my city the same way. Matter of fact, every time I come to church, I'm making sure someone comes with me. Give me the courage to love people like you love me. If you're here tonight and you want a fresh outpour of the Holy Spirit so you can clean the lepers, lift your hands, let me pray for you. Father God, help us to love people like you loved us. Help us to love the hell right about our people. Help us to see people with fresh highs. Help us to love our city back to life. Help us to never be ashamed, to never look over, to never overlook those that you love. So God, feel this house, feel union. God, feel union with people that are broken and hurting and let us be the ones that will touch them before their cleanse. In Jesus' mighty name, someone shout amen. There's something about your name You'll mix me quite a little deep There is no other name There is no other name There is no other name You said no
Come on, make God bless you We're gonna be here tomorrow night Final day of revival Come through the Lord is the moment Make up bless you and keep you And let His face shine up for you Have a amazing night (music)
