Zion Church | Keep Going Pt. 2 | Senior Pastor Keith Battle

Summary

Paul urges the Colossians to keep going by continuing to follow Jesus as Lord (*kurios*)—not as a convenient addition to life, but as the one with absolute authority. The contrast is clear between a throne-centered life, where self rules, and a cross-centered life, where self is surrendered and Christ remains central. Jesus is not only the Savior who died on the cross, but the risen Lord who now sits on the throne and cannot be dethroned by human ego or distraction. A life that drifts from this truth eventually loses direction, just as small deviations over time lead far off course.

Philippians 2 reveals Christ’s pattern: He left glory, took the form of a servant, died on the cross, and was exalted with the name above every name. Luke 9:23 then calls believers into the same rhythm—deny self, take up the cross daily, and follow—showing that discipleship is built on continuous, intentional surrender. Galatians 2:20 reframes identity around this truth: the believer no longer lives from self-rule but from Christ within. Jesus’ own life demonstrates this posture—measured responses under pressure, forgiveness in suffering, faithfulness to Scripture, and full submission to the Father. The central question remains: who is seated on the throne, because both self and Christ cannot rule at the same time
