Fresh Anointing - Armondo Garcia
Armando Garcia used to sit in a prison cell believing he was a failure and God couldn’t use him anymore. But one surrender—one moment of repentance—became the turning point that rewired his mind, restored his peace, and set him on a new path.
Armando Garcia (Freedom in Jesus) brings a powerful word from 1 Samuel 16—the moment God chose and anointed David, not because of appearance, but because of the heart. If you’ve ever felt disqualified by your past, your prison time, your anxiety, your depression, or the choices you regret… this message is for you.
This isn’t just preaching—it’s a reminder that God still anoints, still refreshes, and still calls people who feel “least likely.” Armando shares how God met him in prison, drew him into prayer, Bible study, and fellowship, and began to renew him day by day through the Holy Spirit.
Hallelujah. Thank you, Lord Jesus. You know, this morning, I just want to say thank you for for listening this morning. We just want to bring a word of God to you, but before I get to it, my name is Armando Garcia. I'm with Freedom in Jesus. We, you know, minister in the prison, but we just want to give a little word and, you know, a preaching and a teaching and, you know, mixed together. I just want to bless you with the word of God this morning, but if you want to bow with me, which is going to pray as we go into the Word and allow God to minister to you, allow the Holy Spirit to do His work, okay? So, let's just bow ahead. Father, we thank you. Father, we pray for the listener right now, God. Father, I pray for men and women, God. Father, that you will talk to the minister to them, let your word. Father, Lord, just penetrate to the heart, God. And Father, I just pray a blessing. Lord, that you will have your way, God, and minister to them. Father, we just thank you for your word and for this precious, wonderful day. God, because of your mercy and your grace, God. So, bless them in the name of Jesus. Amen, and amen. I just want to bring a word to you. If you have your Bible, let's look in the book of Samuel, chapter 16. And we're going to look at a portion of Scripture about a man named David, and in chapter 16, verses 1 through 13. And it says, and the Lord said unto Samuel, it says, how long without more for Saul? Seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel. And he said, feel thy horn with oil and gold. I will send thee to Jesse, the Belthomite, where I have provided me a king among his sons. And Samuel said, how can, how can I go? If Saul shall hear it, he will kill me. And the Lord said, taken high for with thee and say, I am come to sacrifice to the Lord and call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shall do, and thou shall anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee. And Samuel did that, which the Lord spake and came to Bethlehem, and the elders of the town tremble at his coming and said, come is thou peaceably? And he said, peaceably, I am come to sacrifice unto the Lord, sanctify yourself and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons and called them to the sacrifice. And he came to pass when they were come, and he looked on Eli, Eli, and said, surely the Lord's anointed is before him. But, verse number seven, but the Lord said unto Samuel, look, not on his continents or on the height of his stature, because I have refused him for the Lord seek not as a man seeeth, for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. Verse number 11, and Samuel said unto Jesse, are here all thy children, and he said,
there remaineth yet the youngest and behold, he keepeth the sheep, and Samuel said unto Jesse, sin and fetch him, for we will not sit down till he come heither. And he sent, and he brought him, and now he was ready, and with all of a beautiful continents, and goodly to look to. And the Lord said, arise and anoint him, for this is he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, anointed him, in the midst of his brethren, and the spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So, Samuel rose up and went to Ramma. So, here in the story, we look at a young man named David, who God has chosen, God has called, and God was, you know, just beginning to anoint David, because he was going to become a king. And just because a lot of times you find yourself sitting in a prison cell, maybe in a county jail, or wherever you're at. But in the midst of the county, well, because we minister a lot in the prisons, with, you know, I was there at one time. I remember doing my time sitting right there where you were at. And I remember that I was in my point of time, point myself in that prison. In my, my, my mind, in my spirit, I looked at myself saying, I'm not worthy or God can't use me no more because of, you know, I'm a failure. But God, you know, God will use even the foolish things of this will to confine the world, he will, he will use us. And at that moment of time, I looked at the story, how David, you know, he, his brothers were there, you know, and out of the seven brothers, God have chosen David because he had prepared David to become a king and not even knowing what God was doing in his heart, in his life. And so Samuel began to bring all the brothers and up and God says, that's not it. See, a lot of times our problem is that we, we look at ourselves, we want to look at people's appearance from the outside. But God sees your heart. God sees where you're at right now. Maybe you're sitting there, you know, you're listening to my voice and you're thinking, well, how can God use me, you know, and so it's not about if God can use you, we don't have to question God. When God wants to use you, he's going to use you. I found myself in that situation. I, I didn't think God would use me as I'm speaking to you right now, but God has been faithful. You know, one of the things that God did, he, he said, get that anointing oil and anointing. Not only did he call us and chose, but he anointed us so that we can go and begin to spread the gospel, but also sharing our testimony of where God, but our testimony becomes powerful because Jesus said, you know, in order for you to be anointed before you can do that, you know, Jesus was talking about, you know, anointing him in the spirit when you receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. This is the Old Testament. Now we're looking at the New Testament. Jesus came and he said, you must.
He says, in order to receive that anointing oil, to receive the, the anointing of God, the spirit, the Holy Spirit, did some must. In John chapter three, verse one, he says, you must be born again. See, the Bible in Romans, he talks about that, you know, we want to receive the spiritual things of God in our fleshly life. We can't do that because the Bible says that we must be born. We must give our life to the Lord to receive the things of God. See this, the, when it says that the flesh is born of the flesh and that's all the flesh going to understand. The flesh would only understand the things of the flesh. But when you receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, then God says, then you will receive his spirit and you will have, then you will comprehend and understand this Bible when you receive the Holy Spirit of God. And so we look at how David was anointed and we look at the verse 13, then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brethren. See, when I was in prison, when I was there like, and I was, I was chosen on God, God began to use my life as I began to go to the prayer meetings, as I began to go to the services that, and I began to get my, you know, join the Bible studies and I began to just gather myself around other believers so that, you know, so that I could begin to understand more of the things what God wanted to do and God began to anoint my life. God anointed me when I said, Lord, I repent here. God, I give my life to you. I surrender to you. Lord, here's my life. And so the minute that I rededicated my life back, because I slipped away. I slipped from God. That's why I wind it up in the prison time because I made wrong decisions. I thought that I didn't need God. I think that I could do things on my own, on my own things. Like, you know, when, when you, when you allow yourself to go back away from God thinking that you don't need God, you know, but God has already had chosen me back in 1976. God, it was calling my life and not knowing, but then when I understood, then God began to anoint my life. And so my, you know, in Job 29, 20, if you, if you get your, if you have your Bible in Job 29, 20, he says that my glory, my glory was fresh in me and my bow was renewed in my hand. See, God wants to renew. He wants to refresh your spirit. God wants to do a great thing in your life. He says, my glory, hallelujah, the glory of God, hallelujah, the anointing of God. He wants to do something new. He wants to refresh your spirit. You know, How many times do we see ourselves, you know, you know, There was a time where I was anxiety kicked in, there was things but God had to refresh my mind. He had to refresh my spirit. Sometimes the reason why our, you know, we would struggle is because Jesus was saying that, that, you know, without the spirit, God has given us the spirit of comfort, to comfort us, to bring healing and to bring, you know, that peace of mind in our lives. And so we struggle because of the very thing that we're doing that because we want to go back to our own ways, our own thinking. And the Bible talks about that. But in Psalms 92 10, 92 10, he says, but my horn shall now exalt like the horn of the of a unicorn.
I shall be anointed with fresh oil. And so God wants to refresh your life. God wants to bring that freshness in your life. You know what the meaning of fresh means. It says not previously known or used. It's a new thing or something different. You know, like a lot of us, we want something fresh. We don't want the old, you know, a lot of time we have bread in a pantry and, you know, we take that old bread out and it's really, you know, it crumbles in your hand because it's old already. But when you get really fresh bread, you know, man, it's really tender, soft, you know, it tastes different. But God wants to refresh our spirit in our mind so that we can, you know, refresh our mind with the Word of God. The Word will bring a refreshment into our spirit. And that's what it means that it will refresh. Like you say in the morning, you know, when you're struggling, you're battling, and then you go to a service. You go hear the Word of God. You see volunteers coming in as we volunteer, go into the prison. You see these volunteers coming in. Maybe you've been in the Kyros. Maybe you've been in one of the Bible study. Maybe, you know, just the volunteers. You go in there with this heaviness in your life, in your spirit. But you find that moment of time there. And then all of a sudden, because of the Word of God is being preached and you see the love of those volunteers coming in and they show you love and God begins to begin to allow them to pour out their love for you. And then all of a sudden you find yourself refreshed. And then you go back to your pod, to your room, to your cell. And then at night you sleep, but in the morning, the Bible says that the mercies of God are new every morning. So your spirit was refreshed. And your spirit was so refreshed because you heard the Word of God in the life. And the Bible talks about in Isaiah 43, 18 and 19. He says that God is doing a new thing. God wants to do a new thing in your spirit. He wants to lift you up because He is our lifter. When you're down, God says that He will lift you up. And so you've got to allow God to begin to refresh your life and to anoint you and begin to bring that life back to you. In Hebrews chapter one, verse number nine, it's a powerful scripture, the verse in Hebrews chapter one verse down, it says this, "Thou has loved righteousness and hated iniquity. Therefore," he says, "God, even thy God has anointed thee with the all of gladness above all, above thy fellows." You know what God is saying here? He said, "God has anointed you." He gave you a spirit of joy. You know, maybe you were sad. Maybe you were struggling in life because maybe you felt abandoned. Maybe you felt your life was like nobody was there for you. Maybe you just feel lonely and you feel depressed and you go through all this struggle in your moment of time. But you know what God, God, when you give your life to the Lord and you allow God, you surrender to the Lord and say, "Lord, I'm struggling here Lord, and God will begin to anoint you with that fresh oil and He'll bring that gladness back to you, the joy." You know, that's what in in Timothy talks about that we need to rejoice, even in our times of trouble, of troubles in the trials of our life, because only God can give you that peace. One of the things about Romans chapter 12, verse two. Romans chapter 12, verse two, it says very clearly, and I'll read it to you, and it says this. It says, "I beseech you, therefore brethren, "by the mercies of God, "that you present your bodies and live in sacrifice." Give it to the Lord, that let it be a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. This is the key, verse number two. And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
That you may prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. You know, only the Spirit can lead you. The Holy Spirit, the Bible says that when Jesus said, "I must leave," because I'm gonna send you the Holy Spirit. I can only be with you at certain places, but when I leave, he says, "I will send the Holy Spirit. "They would lead you, they will guide you, "they will direct you, they will help you, "they will come for you." This is what you need. And maybe you're trying to find peace in your life. Maybe you're trying to find a way how to be confident. Well, the Holy Spirit is the one. But you gotta allow the Holy Spirit to lead you and guide you. You know, Billy Graham had his quote. He says that the job of the Holy Spirit is to convict. Sometimes we need conviction. We need the Holy Spirit to convict us that you can't find peace and joy. You can't find other things in other people's life or in a service. So you're not gonna find it nowhere else only in the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit brings conviction and it begins to deal with you
that it's time for you to let go of those things, let go of this mess, let your mind don't go back into the old things, but let your mind focus on Jesus who is the author, the finisher of our faith. So the Holy Spirit's job is to convict you because he's not trying to hurt you. He's not trying to bring you down. All he's trying to do is to convict you to bring your problems to the surface so that you can release those things so that you can have that peace, so that you can be refreshed in your mind, in your spirit. Secondly, God's job is to judge. God is the judge of our life and the judgment will come. And God is a God of love. He judges us not because he's condemnative, but he's judging us because he's trying to judge our hearts because he's the judge, the overall judge, because he loves you. And so, but our job, Billy Graham says, but my job, he says, is to love. The spirit convicts God judges, but my job is to love. And see, if we can love if we don't have the Holy Spirit, only through the Holy Spirit, we can love because it's God's love, not your love. See, our love is conditional love. Well, I love if he loves me back.
I'll forgive the only people. We want them to do their part, but we, God has called us that let the Spirit of God bring that first step to forgive, to love, and to embrace, and to do, to do the love of an unconditional love, unconditional love. It doesn't matter what people have done. You can still love because that's what Jesus did. Jesus died on that cross. Even though we were yet sinners, he says, he loved us. And he says, you know what, even on the cross, he says, Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do because God loves us that much. And so, if God loved us, we need to love other people as well. You know, I found it myself yesterday at my job. You know, I was working and I was training these guys and, you know, I was trying to see if they knew what they knew what to do. And so, these guys, you know, they got mad at me. They wanted to fight. But the Holy Spirit came and he comforted me at that moment. He stepped right in me and he allowed me to have that peace with them. Even though they were cussing, they were, you know, they wanted to fight me already. But God, the Holy Spirit gave me that comfort. And as soon as I allow the Spirit to take control,
you know, God took over. But the most important thing is that I had to have that self-control, the fruit of the Spirit, to have that self-control. And maybe you're struggling, maybe you're arguing, maybe you're complaining because of this and that, because you're not allowing the Holy Spirit to control and he'll help you out. You got to allow the Spirit to control that. And so, but God says that, you know, in Hebrews 190, I mean, we read that, but in 1st, but the anointing which you have received at him abideth in you." Man, what a great scripture where we can stand in first John chapter 2, you know, and I'll read it in the scripture, where it's so powerful that even Jesus said in verse John, verse John chapter 2, in verse 27, and the scripture says this, he says, "But the anointing which you have received of him, of him, him is Jesus abideth in you, and you need not that any man," okay, listen to that, "and you need not that any man teach you, but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it is hath taught you, you shall abide in him." In other words, if the Spirit of God is teaching you how to walk, how to live alive, but according to the image of Christ, according to his standard of his word, you know, sometimes we want to do our standard, but not God's standard, because when you do your own standard, then you're going to find yourself like in a place where you're comfortable, you're in that comfort zone, that you're not allowing the Spirit to work with you, you know, you don't find yourself, you know, moving forward, you just, you just stagger, you began to be comfortable, and you don't want to grow, you don't want to allow the Spirit to teach you greater things, like Jesus said, "Call upon me, and I will show you greater things." Well, you need to call on the Holy Spirit so he can show you great things, how to overcome those things that you're struggling with, but right here, he says, "So, but the same anointing teaches you all things." So, the Spirit wants to teach you things that you do not know, and maybe you say, "You know what? It's impossible for me to, you know, how to, you know, preach the Word, or how can I find the truth of the Word?" Well, the Holy Spirit can open
your mind. He's a supernatural, you know, a Spirit God that will take you to the, to, to a supernatural, because Jesus even said this, he goes, "It's the things that we do not know. The Holy Spirit can reveal that to you, and it will bring that refreshing anointing in your life." You know, sometimes, you know, we, we can get up, you know, and think that, you know, I like my, my, you know, everything fresh, you know, how many times have you eaten a tortilla that has been there in the refrigerator, you know, for a long time? I'd rather have a fresh tortilla. I'd rather have fresh beans, fresh, but everything has to be fresh because it is good. So God is saying, "I want to give you a refreshing Spirit because that's going to come for you. That's going to lift you up, and, and you're going to live that life with peace in life." And so, you know, God has been so good. God has been faithful in 1 John, and we see that, that he knows all things. And so he said, "It's not a line, it's, it's all truth." So if Jesus is true, he said, "I am the way, I am the truth, and the line." And so if he is the way, and if he is the truth, then you need to abide. Like he said in John chapter 15, he said that, "I am the bind. He who abides in me." He says, "You need to abide in him so that you can bear fruit." And so God is being, God loves you so much that he wants you to understand one thing that, there's a scripture in Matthew 9, one thing that I really, really want to share with you. In the book of Matthew chapter 9, he, he was talking about, about the old, and he was talking about the new. So we want to take you to this point where Jesus was talking about, give a parable using the wine skin. In the Matthew chapter 9, verse 17, he said this, he said, "Neither, neither do men put new wine into all bottles, else the bottles break, and the wine, the wine runs out, and the bottles perish, but they, but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved." You know, one thing about, about Jesus, the Holy Spirit, it's not something that is being preserved. It's not something that, that you open a can, and you get this Holy Spirit again, something that is being canned, you know, preserved. The Spirit is But in the Bible, it talks about how can Jesus put His Spirit in the old flesh, in our own ways of life, you know, living in sin, you know, living in the whole life that, that, you know, is pleasing to ourselves. It doesn't edify God, but we're pleasing ourselves. How can God put His Spirit on you? But the Spirit is there to convict you. You know, if you allow the Spirit, that's how I got saved. You know, while I was singing, I was living my life out there, like the world. I found myself under the conviction of the Holy Spirit. See, the conviction was coming to me. But for me to allow the Spirit to dwell in me,
I had to repent, give my life to the Lord so the Spirit can come inside of me. And then He led me, I was led by the Spirit after ever since then. You know, we are led by the Spirit of God. And the Bible talks about that. He says that we must be led by the Spirit. A lot of times, we want to do things by our emotions. Sometimes we want to do things about other people, what other people say it. But sometimes we need to allow the Spirit of God. I'm going to say something to you. If you're struggling and you want the Holy Spirit to lead you, you want to find a way to escape out of the troubles or the mindset that you're in, then tell the Holy Spirit to lead you. They take that time to say, "You know what? Holy Spirit, teach me. How can I forgive? Holy Spirit, teach me. How can I overcome this situation in my life? Holy Spirit, teach me. How can I understand the Scripture? You know, what do I need to do? Well, Jesus said that we must pray. You know what I mean? Without prayer, you know, the Holy Spirit can show you. Sometimes you got to take time. You got to pray and take that time of silence and let the Spirit speak to you. And a lot of people, we run. We run and we want to take the gospel. Sometimes we want to just do whatever we want to do without the Spirit's guidance. You know, we need to allow the Spirit to begin to anoint as it refreshes. I wonder if your horn is filled with oil. I was remembering, I was remembering the 10 virgins. Five were foolish. The other one were wise because they were ready. They had their ways. They had their anointing oil ready to go before the bride comes talking about Jesus. So these five women, they were wise enough to understand that, "Man, I've got to be filled with this oil when it comes. I'm going to be ready to go." But the foolish ones, they didn't have any. And these are people that they think that they don't need it. They think they can depend. What is really meaning is means this, that just because, you know, your parents are pasture, maybe your dad's a pasture and you've got family that are saved, you know, just because they have their wine doesn't mean that you're going to make it using their wine. God, you got, you're responsible for your own wine. You're responsible for your own salvation. You have to work your own salvation out. And so God is saying this morning to you, "You want to refresh mine? You want to refresh peace in your life, a peace life where you can be, you know, have a joy of life, have that goodness of life, have that mercy that is new every morning, then surrender to the Lord. You must give your life to the Lord. Let the Holy Spirit lead you. Let the Holy Spirit be filled with the Spirit. We, as a continue, we need to continue to be a refuel of the Holy Spirit every day, every day when you, when you don't find that by praying, reading the Word of God every morning. Have you
noticed how sometimes you read a scripture and all of a sudden, you know, you read it again the third time and you'll find something different because God refreshes the, you know, he refreshes your mind again to that portion because you missed it but he'll refresh your mind with it. He gives you that new love. He gives you that peace of mind where you will find yourself in a place where you say, "You know what, Lord? I thank you because without you, I would have made it." But it was because the Holy Spirit, you allow the Spirit to take you even through the struggles, even through the pains and you trust it in here. Like in Proverbs 35 says, you know, trust God with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding but lean upon Him. Lean upon the Holy Spirit that God is sitting you so that you can move forward. But this movement, I'm going to close with this. I just want to speak to you. If you're never given your life to the Lord, today is the day of salvation. I'm asking you if you really want that. I'm asking you, pray with me. I wanna lead you to the Lord. Maybe you're struggling, maybe you're battling right now. Maybe you're in a moment of time where you feel abandoned. Maybe you feel lonely. Maybe you feel like, man, it's hard for me to overcome. I just feel like I'm struggling with, I'm struggling right now. I'm on my lows and my lows and my life. I don't know if I can overcome this thing, but I'm gonna lead you to the one that can give you that peace to the one that can help you to overcome those things, but you gotta believe in him. So, let's bow your head with me and let's pray. Say, Lord Jesus, I come before you. Lord, I'm struggling. I need you. I need to save you. Lord, help me to overcome.
Give me the Holy Spirit. Feel me with your spirit so that I can overcome, 'cause I don't know how. I am weak, I am tired, but I come to you as your word says, come unto me, all ye that are heavy laden. Father, I need your yoke. I need you. I need your help. Jesus, come into my life. I believe that you died on that cross and you gave your life for me. And so, I wanna receive that gift of life in the name of Jesus. Father, I thank you and I need your help today. Father, I thank you in Jesus' name. So, if you prayed that prayer, you have just received the Holy Spirit inside of you, trusted him, let him lead you, let him guide you, and just believe that he will do that. Amen? So, God bless you and have a great day and may the Lord bless you the rest of you day. Amen, God bless you. Amen. (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music)
