Well, well, People's Church family, our heartbeat as a church is to help people to show people the love of God locally, nationally, and all around the world. And recently, People's Church, you showed up in a really strong way to reach out, to make, and serve our community through our quarterly outreach day. Today when we get out and we serve different organizations in our community to show them the love of Jesus. And we are supporting some amazing organizations who are really meeting the needs of people locally here in our communities. Here in Oklahoma, we showed the love of Jesus at three different organizations. One is Hope is Alive, Regional Food Bank, Jelts Senior Center, and we were out feeding the homeless as well. And in the, we showed God's love at Cleaners Food Bank, Lambswear, Good Samaritan Network, and also in some feeding of the homeless. But we want you to check out this quick recap video to see how your giving is making a difference and meeting needs in our community. Check this out. I'm here with People's Church. We are passing out milk and other staples for a nice line of people here. We are serving with our community partner, Lambswear, packing bags of clothing for families in need.
We are feeding and taking care of our unhoused neighbors. We're setting up baskets for our senior citizens that have food insecurities. You know, we have a lot of people in our community that need assistance, and there's not a better way to help than to get out there and assist. What People's Church did was over 2,100 pounds of clothing, so that we'll be ready for when we give it to the flood victims. We're here with Hope is Alive, and so we're just cleaning the house. We are power washing, we are cleaning outside. Hope is Alive exists to radically change the lives of drug addicts, alcoholics, and the families that love them. And the church community comes into our program and supports us. The residents feel valued, seen, and loved. I think God calls us to show love for others, so we also have a heart of serving, and we're called to serve. It's kind of high opening. You didn't know how I can use my services to make a difference, not just the city, but to extend the hand of God. We loved having People's Church here today with us. Thank you, People's Church, for coming and God's hearing. Thank you, People's Church, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you, thank you, People's Church, for all that you do. We appreciate you all. I just want to say thank you so much for your generosity. Father, we thank you, Lord, for the work of all of these ministries and what they're doing to meet the needs of people in our community. Father, we pray that you would bless those who went out and served at our quarterly outreach day. Does God steal the heal and perform miracles? I love reward programs. When I order my coffee from one of my favorite coffee shops, I always ensure they enter my rewards number so I can get on my points. Don't rob a brother of his benefits. I want my reward points to add up so I can get me a free latte. Now that a latte is $29.20, I like to get a free one every once in a while. But with every company I do business with, I'm always looking at my reward benefits. I fly American Airlines a lot and I'm executive platinum status with them. And I enjoy all of my reward benefits and my upgrades. Tiffany and I have a credit card
that we pay the balance off every month and we get travel benefits, airport lounge access, travel insurance and rental car insurance benefits. I love my benefits and so many people have benefits that they're not accessing. A lot of people have benefits from their employer. They're not accessing. They have free dental, eye care, flexible spending account, preventative screenings, wellness programs and retirement benefits. And so many people never use all of their benefits and some are not even aware that they have the benefits. They're a part of an organization or company that offers great benefits but they're not taking advantage of them. And many Christians have this same issue when it comes to being a part of God's family. They're saved and a part of the family of God but they're not accessing all of their heavenly benefits. Ignorance can keep you from experiencing what grace has already made available to you. Jesus accomplished so much for us on the cross. And today I want you to understand what Jesus purchased for you on the cross because when you understand what Jesus did for you at Calvary, you don't just appreciate the cross more, you trust Jesus more. That's why you must understand what the power of atonement and what it provides for your life.
Everybody shout atonement. What is the atonement? In scripture atonement is the process by which God repairs the broken relationship between himself and humanity. between God and humanity by removing the barrier of sin through a sacrificial substitute. The Hebrew word for atonement literally means to cover, to purge, to cleanse, to pay as a ransom. In the Old Testament, God used the blood of animals to cover the people's sins, Leviticus chapter 17 verse 11, for the life of a creature is in its blood. And I have given it to make atonement for yourselves on the altar. It is the blood that makes atonement for one's life. The animal sacrifices did not permanently erase sin. They served as temporary stand-ins, pointing to a future permanent remedy for sin, Jesus Christ. Jesus was the perfect substitute. In Hebrews chapter number nine and chapter 10, it teaches us that Jesus bore the penalty of the entire human race on the cross and paid the ultimate price once and for all sin. And this made future animal sacrifices unnecessary. First John chapter two, verse two, John writes. He's speaking about Jesus. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins. And not only for ours, but also for the sins of the whole world.
The cross was a beautiful exchange, our iniquities for his crushing, our guilt for his punishment, our transgressions for his wounds, our sickness for his suffering. Jesus took what belonged to us so that we could receive what belonged to him. He took our sin and gave us righteousness. He took our shame and gave us honor. He took our punishment and gave us peace. He took our sickness and gave us healing. That's the gospel. That's the good news. The word atonement describes the reconciling, reconciling the redemptive work Christ accomplished for us through his death and resurrection. The atonement provides every Christian, including you, many benefits. The atonement reconciles us back to God and provides us a lot of benefits. Sin brought both spiritual death and physical brokenness. Sin impacts every part of our lives. Spirit, soul and body. Christ atonement addresses every part of our lives. Christ's redemption and restoration is holistic impacting a spirit, soul and body. But so many Christians don't understand that what Christ did for us on the cross impacts us spirit, soul and body. So they experience the forgiveness of their sin
which obviously is the most important benefit of all. But they never experience all of the other benefits. And as your pastor, I want you to understand the benefits the atonement provides for you. Let me just share some of them with you. I already said forgiveness and then redeemed. You don't owe the payment for your sin. Jesus purchased your salvation and you are free from payment, justification. You are declared righteous through faith in Christ. You are the, you are righteous in the side of God. Reconciliation, your relationship with God is restored. You now have fellowship with God, adoption. You are now a child of God. Freedom from sin's dominion. You don't have to live as a slave to sin. Somebody needs to hear this today. You can live in freedom. It's a part of the atonement, victory over sin. You have authority over the devil and demons, peace with God. You are no longer an enemy with God. You have peace with God, access to God's presence. You can boldly approach God's throne of grace, the Holy Spirit. You have the power of the Holy Spirit living inside of you to guide you and to lead you into all truth. Sanctification, you are set apart and transformed, resurrection and eternal life. Death doesn't get the final word for the Christian.
You will rise again and live with God for all of eternity, complete restoration. Revelation 21 verse four says in heaven there will be no more death, no more crying, no more mourning, no more pain. So when you look at the cross, don't just see forgiveness. See everything Jesus accomplished for you. Healing. Peter quotes the prophecy of Isaiah in chapter 53 in verse 4 and 5 in first Peter chapter 2 verse 24. He himself bore sins in his body on the cross so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness by his wounds you have been healed. Christ's redemptive work includes God's provision for healing. Let's go all the way back to the beginning. God created humanity, Adam and Eve without sin in the book of Genesis and before sin entered the world there was no sickness, no death, no disease, no suffering. In Genesis chapter 1 it repeatedly says what God created was good and we learned last week when Adam and Eve disobeyed God sin entered the world. Romans chapter 5 verse 12 therefore just as sin entered the world through one man Adam and death through sin, death consequences because of sin and in this way death came to all people because all sinned when sin entered the world, death entered. The world became broken, lives became broken, bodies became broken, minds became broken, relationships became broken, creation itself became broken but God did not abandon his creation. He began a redemptive plan and ultimately sent Jesus to redeem what sin had broken. Jesus came to redeem lives, redeem bodies, redeem minds, redeem relationships, healing of your body, your mind and your relationships are benefits of the atonement. Matter of fact let me take you just a little bit deeper. The character and nature of God is to heal. One of God's covenant names is Jehovah Rapha. In Exodus chapter 15 verse 26 this is where we find this. He says I am the Lord who heals you Jehovah Rapha. Notice God doesn't merely say I know how to heal. No he says I am the Lord who heals you. Healing is connected to God's character because God is a healer. The Psalm that said in Psalm 103 verse one and three, one through three praise the Lord my soul. All my inmost being praise the Lord, praise his holy name, praise the Lord my soul and forget not all his benefits. Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases. The same God who forgives the sin is the same God who heals diseases. God's character is to heal. So when Jesus came to earth he healed because God's character has always been
to heal what was broken. Jesus said in Luke chapter 4 verse 18 the spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, heal the emotions, to proclaim liberty to the captives to those in bondage and addiction and recovery on sight to the blind to heal physical elements to set and liberty those who are oppressed people oppressed by the demons and demonic forces. When Jesus came to earth he did not just preach about God's kingdom. He demonstrated the kingdom of God. He healed the sick, he opened blind eyes, he caused the lame to walk, he cleansed lepers, he restored broken bodies and matter of fact in Matthew chapter 8 verse 16 and 17 Matthew connects Jesus' healing ministry with Isaiah 53. He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases. Jesus demonstrated the character of God by healing what was broken and on the cross Jesus shed his blood and one of the benefits he purchased for broken humanity was healing. I want to bring theological balance so that you're not confused. One of my roles as a Bible preacher and Bible teacher is I want to always rightly divide the word of truth and some people teach because Jesus died for healing then every Christian will automatically be immediately healed and if that were true then no Christian would ever die from sickness. But scripture says it's appointed for all of us to die so that means we must understand And the difference between provision? Christ has purchased ultimate redemption and we experience many benefits of that redemption right now. But we don't experience every benefit in his complete fullness while we live in these dirt bodies and in this syncyc world. We're saved now but we're still waiting for the full redemption of our bodies. Romans says it like this in Romans chapter 8 verse 23. Not only so but we ourselves who have the first fruits of the spirit grown inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship. The redemption of our bodies. This is very important. Your spirit has been redeemed but your body is still awaiting its ultimate redemption. That's why we can confidently pray for healing today while also recognizing that complete physical restoration will ultimately happen at the resurrection. So God does still heal today but our complete and ultimate healing will happen in heaven.
God heals today and God heals in many ways today. God can heal through many avenues. When Jesus walked the earth he did not heal people the same way. In Matthew chapter 8 he spoke the word and the centurion's son was healed. Luke 17 he told the 10 lepers to go show themselves to the priest and then they were healed. In Matthew chapter 9 he touched the blind men's eyes and they were healed. In Luke chapter 6 he told a man to stretch out his withered hand and it was healed. In John chapter 9 he spit in the dirt and made mud and wiped it on the man's eyes and told him to go wash in the pool of psilom and he was healed. In Matthew chapter 7 Jesus put his fingers in a man's ear and spit and put it on the man's tongue and he was healed. I don't know if Jesus could have healed me with all that spitting. Jesus you know I'm a germaphobe. Why are you doing all that spitting? Jesus don't touch my tongue with your spit. Come on Jesus. Please heal me a different way. Give me the stretch out my tongue but don't touch it. He heals in many ways. Today God still heals in so many different ways and he gets the glory for every way that he heals. God heals through prayer, God heals through prayer and anointing with all. God heals through the gift, the spiritual gift of healing. God heals through doctors and medicine, medicine and doctors are not the enemy of faith. God uses doctors and medicine to bring healing to our bodies. Seeking medical treatment is not evidence that you don't believe in God. Medical treatment and prayer can work together. Even Paul encouraged Timothy to use a little wine for medicinal purposes. First Timothy 5 and verse 23, stop drinking only water and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.
This just became somebody's favorite scripture. Lord deliver them from evil and nothing wrong with your stomach in Jesus name. Let me get back to my sermon. God can work through supernatural healing in miracles, through natural processes, through medicine, through doctors. God can work and heal through surgery, through therapy, through nutrition, through rest and through the body's God given ability to recover. The method may change, but the source does not change. James 1 and verse 17 teaches us that God is always the source of every good and perfect gift. If God heals someone through a supernatural healing or miracle, God gets the glory. If God heals someone through medicine, God gets the glory. If God uses the doctor, God gets the glory. If God heals instantly, God gets the glory. If God heals progressively, God gets the glory. Every good and perfect gift comes from above. Healing can happen progressively. When you become a Christian, forgiveness is immediate. But healing can happen three ways. Sometimes it's immediate. Sometimes it's progressive. Sometimes it's in the future. In the future meaning it could happen on this earth, but if not on earth, it will happen in heaven. Every single Christian will be healed in heaven. We will receive the ultimate benefit of the atonement in heaven. I want your theology to be scripted. That means you need to understand some healing is experienced now on earth. But ultimate and full healing is guaranteed in eternity.
Let me give you your response to the benefit of healing that's a part of the atonement. Your response to the atonement, you might wanna just jot this down. 'Cause your job is not to decide when or how God will heal you. Your job is to ask God to heal you. Your job is to pray. You pray. Your job is to use wisdom, medicine, doctors, rest, physical therapy, surgery. Your job is to ask others to pray for your healing. James chapter five verse 14 and 15 is anyone among you sick. Let them call on the elders of the church to pray over them and to anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well. The Lord will raise them up. If they have sin, they will be forgiven. And in just a few moments, we have our trained prayer leaders that are going to come in a moment. And they're gonna be ready to anoint you with oil and to pray for you to be healed. Your job is to go and ask for them to pray for you to be healed. Your job is to believe God. Mark chapter 11 verse 24. Therefore I'll tell you Jesus said, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it. And it will be yours. Your job is to believe. You have received whatever you pray for.
And healing will be yours. Either here on earth or in heaven. But your job is to believe God. Now understand that believing God doesn't mean that you're manipulating or controlling God. Believing God means you trust God. You don't put your faith in the method or in prayer. Your own prayer. You put your faith in Jesus. You don't worship healing. You worship the healer. You don't put your faith in the anointing oil. You put your faith in the God who tells us to anoint with oil. You believe God, you trust God. What does that look like pastor? You trust God with the outcome. You pray. You ask others to pray for you. You believe God and then you trust God with the outcome. Mature faith. And at people's church, we have all kinds of people. People that don't know Christ or kick of the tire. Some just got, gave their life to the Lord. Some been saved two or three years. Some been saved a long time. My goal is no matter where you are, it's to help you develop mature faith. That's why we're in a, this year's the word of the year is grow.
Church, mature faith says, I know God can't heal. I believe God will kill me. I believe God wants me to pray for healing. And I believe God is good whether I receive my healing on earth or in heaven. I said, I have mature faith. So I believe God is good whether I receive my healing on earth or in heaven. I'm on said again, I believe God is good whether I receive my healing on earth or in heaven. God is good whether I lived to be 20 years old or I lived to be 90 years old. The Lord is good, no matter what. God is good all the time and all the time. God is a good God. No matter what God is a good God. We pray because God still heals. We anoint with all because God still heals. We believe because God still heals but we don't manipulate God or command God according to our timetable. But we confidently ask God according to his word to heal our bodies, our minds, our relationships because healing is a benefit of the atonement. Father, thanks for your word, thanks for your presence. Thank you for speaking to us today. Oh God, have your way in these next few moments. As we pray for many in our church family to be healed, show your power, show your mind. Thank you for the benefit of healing
that's a part of the atonement. Show your power today. I pray for those who don't know your forgiveness, your saving power. The best and greatest benefit of all, the forgiveness of our sins. Save them the day I pray. In Jesus' name, his eyes are closed and heads are bowed. You don't know Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You haven't experienced the most important benefit, the forgiveness of your sins. You're full of sin, you're living for the devil, for the world and today you need forgiveness of your sins. Some of you used to live for God, you used to serve God, but you drifted back into the world. And today you need to recommit your life to God. The most important thing that you can do is receive the forgiveness of your sins today. You've been made right with God. If that's you today, you've been living in sin, you're not living for God, you're not serving God, and you want to have the most important benefit, and that's the forgiveness of your sins, to be made right with God. If that's you, as I count to three, would you shoot your hand high in the air? Now I want to leave you in a prayer for your sins to be forgiven. One, two, three, just lift it high, say pass with us. That's me, see your hand there, see your hand there,
see your hand there, see your hand there, see your hand there. See several hands going up, see your hand there in the back, others today, just lift it high, that's it. See your hand there, others today, see your hand there, others, see your hand there over there. Is there somebody else today? Just hands going up today. I'm giving my life to Jesus. I want my sins to be forgiven. I'm going to ask every hand that's raised to pray this prayer with me, and God's going to wash away your sins. You're going to be forgiven and made right with God. Pray with me now, heaven and Father. I believe you sent Jesus, that he died on the cross, that he rose again, and I put my faith in Jesus Christ. I give him my life, I give him my heart. I confess Jesus Christ is my Lord and my Savior, and I will live for him the rest of my life. And Jesus, thank my pray, amen. And amen, come on somebody, thank the Lord right now, thank the Lord, thank the Lord, thank the Lord. Thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus for salvation, for forgiveness. Right now I'm going to ask all of our trained prayer team, would you make your way to your position right now? Would you make your way, all of our trained prayer team just make your way, make your way, make your way here? Make your way all of our trained prayer team.
Now as our trained prayer team come, if some of you try to slip and join the prayer team, when you're not part of the train, we'll have to escort you back to your seat in Jesus' name. So don't make us escort you back to your seat, glory to God, but our trained prayer team, our trained prayer team, our prayer team. We have anointing all, and in a moment we're going to anoint with all, and we'll put some, just a little dab on your forehead. If you prefer to put it on your hand, you just put your hand up and say, "Would you know it in my hand?" We're going to know it all. We're going to take 60 seconds or so. We're going to pray for your healing and we're going to pray for miracles today, because God is a healer. He's a miracle worker. We've got prayer team all across the front. There's some on the sides as well. There's some even kind of on the side of the wall a little bit there as well. The prayer team there. Would you stand with me all around this building? Would you stand? Would you stand? Would you stand? Would you stand? He's a God of miracles. He's a God that heals. I wouldn't let this moment go by without responding and getting prayer today. There's faith in this room.
He's a healer. As we begin to sing this song, don't slip out early. Come on, create the atmosphere in this place. By lifting your hands, by worshiping, by stretching your hand this way. And say, "God, touch those who need healing today." Touch it, look. If you need healing right now, you need a miracle.
