Anointed for Increase

Happy Sunday, church family. It's a great snow day, I'm hoping, for you. Listen, there's a snow day that every pastor despises, and that is a Sunday snow day. I hope you're getting some rest, though. Hope you're hanging out with your kids if you got them. Hopefully, if there's enough snow today, you are sledding. Well, we're filming this on Friday, and if you're watching this on Sunday, that means we're snowed out. But we wanna take some time, and we wanna dive into the Word, and continue on, as well as conclude, this sermon collection that we are in called Built Different. Now, today, what our plan was, was to anoint you and everybody that's a part of your family with oil. Now, obviously, we're not gonna be able to do that today, and we did do that on Friday, so hopefully you were there. But if you weren't there, and you wanna anoint yourself with oil today, that is absolutely okay. I do that from time to time as I'm praying over myself, or praying into an assignment that I'm stepping into. But let's go back to our pilot passage today. From the book of Numbers, we're gonna go to Numbers chapter 14, verse 24, and read the same scripture that we've been reading all month.

Numbers 14, verse 24 says this, but my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit, and has followed me fully, I will bring him into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it. My servant Caleb, because he was, y'all say it with me, built different, and that is what we have been declaring over our church all month, that we are built different, that you are built different, and as a result of you allowing God to touch your inner disposition, your attitude, in 2026, you're gonna take the right actions, and you're gonna build different, and you're gonna move into the places that God has promised you in 2026. Having the right attitude produces the right actions, and that is something that Caleb displays all throughout the Old Testament. By examining the lifestyle of Caleb, we've been able to come away with a strong working definition of what a different spirit is. I don't know if you're taking notes today. Obviously, you're at home hanging out, but if you are, you can write this down, or hopefully you wrote it down last week, but here's what a different spirit is.

A different spirit is an attitude of teachability, an attitude of teachability that produces actions of obedience. That's what a different spirit is. It's an attitude, first and foremost, of teachability that produces, following up, actions of obedience. Well, now it's time for us to step up and for us to step out into this new season, for us to take obedient action, listening to the Holy Spirit, and inhabiting the territory that he has for you in this new season. So to prepare for that, we're doing something that we do every year, which is an anointing with oil, where we pray and we anoint everybody that wants to be with oil, blessing you for your new year so that you can step into this new season appropriately. Now, a few thoughts about anointing and anointing oil. I know sometimes whenever we talk about anointing oil, people see the oil as like superstitious, but listen, anointing oil is not magic, but it very much is biblical. Let me give you a couple of definitions real quick from the Dictionary of Bible Themes. First, let's start with anointing. Here's what that dictionary says. Anointing, the application of oil

was associated with times of rejoicing and celebration. It also possessed a deeper significance, including that of being singled out by God. Remember, that's what happened for Caleb, of being singled out by God for special favor or responsibilities. And so that's what we've been preaching and teaching on all month long, and that's what we're stepping into in this new year. Now, let me give you another definition, which is that of oil. In the Dictionary of Bible Themes, this is what that resource has to say about oil. Normally, this was olive oil. It was in plentiful supply in Israel, and in general, they used it for household use, but it also has some ritual uses, like the anointing of priests and kings and ceremonial cleansing. And in the New Testament, oil was... also used to anoint the sick if you're sick today i want to encourage you anoint yourself with oil have your spouse anoint you with oil have your family pray over you and believe god for healing for you this is a new testament passage that god tells us is his method for praying for the sick the dictionary goes on to say as a sign of god's provision was anointing oil as well as it was associated with prosperity and with gladness and it was always seen as a mark of spiritual blessing so that's oil that's anointing but let me give you one last definition and this is just a summary of what anointing oil really is in the bible the act of anointing someone with oil is symbolic it's not superstitious it's symbolic of god setting somebody apart confirming their identity and empowering them by his spirit so that he might entrust them for his purposes all right one more time it's symbolic of setting somebody apart confirming their identity empowering them

by his spirit and entrusting them with his purposes and with that being said i want to hit on those four things because that's what i want to prophesy over you today for 2026 all right i've said all that to say if you're going to anoint yourself with oil today or not i'm going to prophesy over you now in jesus name that this will be true of our church family legacy nashville is that these four things these four points will be true of us caleb was never anointed with oil but nonetheless his lifestyle bears the mark of the anointing all right so here are those four things number one consecration all right wherever you are right now just say that with me say i am consecrated we are a consecrated people we have been anointed put anointing in the chat come on we've been anointed if you're watching by chat we have been anointed for what to be set apart that means we don't look like everybody else we don't talk like everybody else we don't think like everybody else we don't dress like everybody else we're set apart and this is what priests are we are consecrated we are anointed by the power of the holy spirit to be set apart to be what bill different all right if you haven't heard this recently you are consecrated all right you've not just been consecrated from something from the world but you've been consecrated for somebody who is that that's god himself and we get this from exodus chapter 30 verse 30 says you shall anoint aaron and his sons and consecrate them why is that so that they can serve as priests so when we're anointed we're saying i am set apart for god i'm set apart by god for god and we are built different therefore we will follow god fully and i want you to notice something in that scripture there exodus 30 30 which is the word serve last week i talked about how god uh spoke over his boy caleb and he said caleb is my servant which leads me to the next point number one is this consecration number two is this preparation all right we are anointed and by being anointed we are prepared to take action for our purpose preparation for purpose is the second reason for the anointing in isaiah chapter 61 verse 1 which we know jesus takes the scroll of isaiah and he reads this scripture out loud in the temple um over 700 years later but isaiah 61 verse 1 says this the spirit of the lord god is upon me because the lord has what anointed me for what for a purpose for an action which is first and foremost to bring the good news to the poor so anytime we talk about anointing you are anointed for a season and a reason all right there is a reason why god wants to anoint you and that is to send you into a new assignment and it's not just for you but it's also for your generation in jesus name we have to remember this as we receive the anointing of god for this new season that we are servants therefore you have a

mission you have a mandate you have a purpose and the reason why the spirit of god will rest upon you and anoint you is so that you can accomplish that mission in full god anoints people not to skip process all right hear me god anoints people not to skip process but to survive process all right anointing is preparation for purpose remember this you've been set apart not just from something but for someone and you've been set apart to serve all right so number one is this consecration Number two is this preparation. And number three is this. It is empowerment. This is the third reason why we are anointed. We are empowered. That means that God's presence, God's spirit, God's power rest upon us so that we can do what he's called us to do. And looking at 1st Samuel chapter 16. Here's a few verses about that. And the Lord said, arise and anoint. All right. One more time. Put it in the chat. Anoint. All right. Stay with me here. I know it's snow day. I know we've got to get to the waffles and the pancakes and we go, we go, you know, play frozen on the TV in a second. But listen, right now we're going to receive the anointing for the assignment that God has for us. 1st Samuel 16. And the Lord said, arise, anoint him for this is he. Then Samuel took a horn of oil and he anointed them. And what happened? And the spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward is what the Bible says. That means that the anointing says to God, I want you, God, to rest here. We apply this oil and we say, God, I want you to rest here. Make me a target, Lord, of your presence and your power. Just paint a bullseye on my heart in Jesus name. I must be empowered by your Holy Spirit to do all that you have called me to do. There's no way you're going to be able to accomplish your God dreams in your own strength. You need the anointing. You need empowerment that comes from the Holy Spirit. If you can do everything that you dream about doing all by yourself, those are good dreams, not God dreams, right? You need to be empowered by God to accomplish the assignment that he has released over your life. If you're going to take the promised lands that the giants currently inhabit, you need empowerment that comes from the anointing. So number one is consecration. Number two is preparation. Number three is empowerment. Here's the last point. Number four is confirmation. That's what the anointing does, just like it did here for David in first Samael chapter 16. It confirms identity here. This it doesn't confirm ambition. All right. It confirms identity. Psalm 89 verse 20 says this. I have found David, my servant key, just like Caleb, my servant going on with my holy oil. God says I have done what

I've anointed him. The anointing oil is confirmation of the revelation that we have already received, which is this. I am a servant of the most high God. I have been called by God, and now I am anointed by God to inhabit and take the territory that he has promised me. So as we anoint with oil today, if you're anointing yourself, you can do that, and we're going to pray in just a minute. I want you to know this, that what we're doing is we're saying amen to what God has already said. Us applying oil doesn't force God's hand. Us applying oil. Like I said, it's not superstitious, but it is scriptural, sacred, something God teaches us to do because the oil is a testimony. The oil is us saying amen. This person right here that is being anointed is called by God. This person right here that's being anointed has been marked by God's spirit. This person right here that is being anointed for this new season, 2026 to take their promised lands, they will overcome and they will have the spirit of Caleb says, come on, let's go up at once and possess it for we are well able to take it. Whenever we put oil upon ourselves or upon one another, when we pray, we're also declaring one more thing. And I just want to say, it's not a point, but I just want to say the oil is upon you to declare God's favor is upon you. Psalm 23, five said, you anoint my head with oil and it causes my cup to overflow. So we're going to pray. If you have some oil around, just go grab it real quick. I mean, you can pause it if you need to, but just go grab it. It doesn't matter if it's cooking oil. Remember, um, in, in, in the old Testament, the, the oil was just, it's just olive oil. All right. And, um, same in the new Testament. I mean, there's ways in which God prescribes oil to be, uh, created for certain, uh, responsibilities, but just grab all of oil. All right, go ahead, go grab it. Uh, it was in plentiful supply in Israel and in, and in general, it was used, uh, just simple household use, but it was also used for anointing. So if you want to do that, you can join us. If not, it's okay, but let's pray, uh, over one another and let's pray for ourselves today. As we receive the anointing for our new season, Jesus, we say, thank you. We say thank you for everybody right now that is praying with me that wants to be consecrated. All right. If you want to be consecrated, this is for you. I pray every single person right now that wants to be consecrated in this new season for this new assignment that you're giving. Lord, I pray over everybody right now that senses a high calling from God that you would say I'm called by God to do something great for the kingdom of God. I'm praying over you right now in Jesus name. I want to pray over everybody right now that that wants a renewed servant's

heart. I know we talked about this last week, but if if you're just struggling with being a servant, struggling with the action of serving Lord, I pray today that an anointing would rest upon us to serve in a greater way. One of the reasons why we don't serve is our cultures obsessed with entitlement. Lord, I pray that you would rid our church of entitlement, that none of us would have expectations that we should receive something, um, before serving for you, God. Lord, I pray in Jesus name for all of those that want to follow God fully today as we anoint and we pray in Jesus name. Lord, today is not about getting something from God, but today is about offering ourselves to God as a living sacrifice in Jesus name. May everybody watching or listening be anointed as your servant in Jesus name. May everybody watching or listening be anointed with a different spirit in Jesus name. May everybody watching or listening be anointed to be set apart for the purposes of God. And lastly, in Jesus name for everybody that I'm praying over now, may they be anointed to be built different in Jesus name. Amen. Church, this is who we are, and this is what we're stepping into in 2026. I've been saying it for the last several months, and I want to leave you with this. It's time to take territory. It's time to take territory. Listen, maybe today, you know, was on purpose. Maybe it was prophetic. Maybe you needed to be addressed in this context. Maybe you didn't need to be at church. Maybe you'd be on the couch with your family right now. And as we're closing, maybe just need to take a time and just share with one another. What do you believe in God for this year? What are your God dreams? What are your goals? What have you have written down and pray over each other? If not, that's all good. But I'm praying for you now in Jesus name that everything that you put your hand to this year would turn to gold, that God would bless you, that God would prosper you, that he'd raise you up, that he'd anoint you, that you walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, that there would never be a day you doubt your purpose. You'd never doubt in the darkness what God has spoken in the light. You're called. You're a world changer. You're like Caleb. You're built different.
