A New Foundation || Victory Church [Who is Jesus? #7]
John 2. Jesus answered them, destroy this temple and I will raise it again in three days. But the temple he had spoken of was his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled that he had said. Then they believed the scriptures and the words that Jesus had spoken. Who is Jesus? Jesus? I would say I loved God and I had experiences with God. I was for sure a Christian but it just felt like I was always at this space of condemnation. Like I just never felt like I was doing enough for God or for people. And I really reflected like what I did for people. If they didn't accept me then why would God, why would I do enough for God? And so I always was like I just need to do enough for people to love me and to have a relationship with people. And so I had a relationship with God. It just was very, I felt like I always fell short of what he needed me to do. I think when you are stuck in that place of feeling like you're constantly falling short, your identity is wrapped up in good and bad days. Like you're constantly up or down or up or down because it's dependent on what you're doing. And that's such an exhausting way to live. It wasn't until I actually like went through a season of grief and my grief journey of losing my dad that I like had to rely on God's grace. I was very self-sufficient. I did the right things from the outside. I was struggling on the inside but from the outside it looked like you know Jess is working hard. She's doing the right things. I was super disciplined. I did my time with the Lord. I did all the check box things. And I would do it because I said I loved God and I did. But I felt like that's what it looks like to love God. And so it wasn't until like I actually couldn't do those things anymore because of grief and just navigating losing a loved one that I couldn't. I didn't feel like praying. I didn't feel like working out. I didn't feel like being disciplined or doing the check box things. It was hard for me to get out of bed a lot of days. And so in those seasons when I couldn't do the things and I realized that God still like loved me it just like I accepted his grace. Like I didn't realize the whole time that he was carrying me the whole time. I felt like my actions was the one that was carrying my salvation and my relationship with God. And I realized it's his faithfulness not mine that carries our relationship. And so it was yeah it was a moment that like in that season of grief that I realized when I let go that I was still in his hands. And he still loved me and he was still for me and it had nothing to do with what I ever did for him. I think the biggest thing is like I'm free. Like I just didn't realize what it was to just get set free by Jesus when it comes to that weight and that like always feeling condemned and feeling like you fall short. And just in like one instance like
I don't I don't feel heavy. I don't feel like stuck. I don't feel like I can't do enough. Like I just feel like you know what Jesus got it and I'm okay. And he he set me free. And so because of Jesus I'm free. I'm joyful. I yeah I'm I'm whole. Who is Jesus? Jesus? Jesus is my friend. Um not only is he the king of kings and the savior of the world and my savior and my lord. He's also like my friend and he's been my friend through some of the hardest days and the most lonely seasons of life. And that's who Jesus is. It's like he's the greatest and the most majestic person and yet he's so intimate and he's so kind and he's so simple of a man. And so yeah that's who Jesus is.
