You've Been Praying "Your Kingdom Come" Wrong (Here's What It Actually Means)

We're trying to keep the migraines at bay. Keep the shades going. Block out the haters, as we normally do. Migraines. We're just talking a little football. Basketball season ended abruptly, and the next day was football. We did have a good run in basketball, though. Our Beach Buccaneers that our boys go to. Final eight teams. Yeah, final eight. That's pretty big. That's right. And the team we lost to was 36-1, ranked 20th in the nation. Wow. And then they lost to Bartlett, who was number one public school.

Shout out to Bartlett. Great year, coach. I saw some highlights on Bartlett. Is that that 6'8 kid? That's unbelievable. They're all good. Oh, wow. So they- We had a good run, though. Oh, we had a great run. Cutter-Sisk. And so here's the thing, though. Put this in perspective. Bartlett, so we lost to Bearden by three points. It was anybody's game. Bartlett wins by a lot over Bearden, and then they blew out. It was like a 30-point win. So basically, those were the three best teams, in my opinion. Brentwood was obviously arguably those top four on one side. Shane Sisk's son, Cutter. Cutter-Sisk put up 33 in his last beach game at MTSU quarterfinals. The Glass House, baby. Going to Wofford. Yeah. Going to Wofford. Sam Pallard. Big Sam. Big Sam had a good game.

Big Sam had a good name. Of course, Mario. We know Mario. Mario had a great game, yeah. Mario's going to go to- J.R. Frentz, I heard, had a decent- J.R.? He's a scrappy scrappy. Yeah, he's all heart. All heart. Not much height, like his dad. Bro, I love that guy. Those guys are scary. We're all heart, baby. We're all heart. Those scrappy guys. Those are guys that'll get you, though. We're all heart. So fun season, but now we're back to football. Let's go, baby. With the Galatians and the Frenches We're back together again. Back together. So Friday night, we play Rockville. Big school. We have a scrimmage, so we'll see, man. It's crazy. Football now is like year-round. It seems like these poor kids have two weeks, two months off. Three months off.

Your kids have no time off, so I don't want to hear for- Yeah, we don't. Ryder's been off for a few months. But Ryder's been off two months, and they're at year-round football. Yeah, it's crazy. Well, because it's working out. It's lifting. It's all the things. I feel like three or four different things come up during the dead period. I was talking, like Robert and I talked about, too. Speaking of opportunities, I'm like, no. I get two weeks where there's no sports. I'm not doing it. We were really- I'm a proponent for a three-week dead period, just saying to all you coaches out there. Yeah, that is crazy. Like, our whole world is planned around football. Like, they say you can only go with your boys on these two weeks vacation. And I'm like, we just really need three. Three. Three or four. Yeah. At least three. Just let them rest. Coach. Coach Crabtree's like, you can't play.

You can do that. You ain't playing, though. I know. Crabtree won't be watching. He'll listen to the podcast. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No. I'm sure Coach Crabtree's a pocket-doppler. He'd be right on it. That's awesome. OK. Let's get into Matthew 6.10. We had it all quoted last week in a six-year-old baby voice from South Louisiana. Uh-oh. Yeah. But let's just quote 6.9, Our Father in Heaven, because I just want to get a context. And then we're going to get into my favorite section of the whole prayer. Right. OK. Therefore, you should pray like this. Yes. Our Father in Heaven, your name be honored as holy. Keep going. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. She's going to try to say it like Annabelle. She's going to have her little knees to her knees.

I always say it like her. OK. Give us today our daily bread. No, that's good. That's how we do it. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. We're going to spend the entire time on this. Maybe we've had more. OK. So here's a pop quiz as we start. Where did the Jewish culture believe Heaven and Earth met? They believed after the Garden. So the first place Heaven and Earth met was the Garden of Eden, OK? That's where the kingdom of God and the kingdom of the world, you know, man, met. That was the point where God met with humanity. God walked with Adam in the cool of the Garden. God came down. But then Adam and Eve sinned. Do you remember this? They were banished from the Garden as not just punishment but protection because if they come back into the presence of God in their sin, they are sealed in a perpetual state of sinfulness forever. So God loves them enough to kick them out. And then the whole, and then after that, you have this devolution of humanity, of sin, and the flood

and the Tower of Babel. And then you have them moving away from, so you're constantly moving away from God east. They're kicked out to the east. Cain and Abel, after the death. Cain goes east. Then you have everybody moving east. And Tower of Babel, they were east of towers. So you have this. moving away from God. Then God comes and meets Abraham and moves toward bringing us back to him and then you have this new place where heaven and earth meet. So where's the first time we see after Eden where heaven and earth meet together in one place where the people can know and have confidence this is the meeting place of God. Okay where do we first see that? The tabernacle. The tabernacle. Got it. The tabernacle and later on from the tabernacle the what? The temple. Okay so you got to understand God is showing us even we don't have a lot of time to spend on this but when God creates the tabernacle the traveling tabernacle in the old testament he basically you can look this up online maybe we could put a picture Robert or Ben we could put a picture here but uh God had God sets up the tabernacle in the center of the nations and all the tribes line up around him you could see this wonderful picture online the tribes are given certain areas to camp out around him and then the Levites have access to God so they don't have a I mean they just marched in formation too and they marched in formation so there was very a lot of order here okay the reason I'm saying that is God is showing them he's not a distant God above and beyond like the gods of the Greek mythology and Roman gods no God's a God who wants to be within God wants to be with them even in the tabernacle so God sets up his house the tabernacle think of it like a big house compared to our house and God says that's where you're going to meet with me and uh you're going to meet with me for sacrifices to have forgiveness of sin you're going to meet to meet with me for festivals so you can honor me and worship me so that is the apex if you will that is the culmination the the punctiliar point if you will on earth where heaven and earth meet in the what the tabernacle of God okay put a pin in that John begins his gospel this way in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God and the

word became flesh and what dwelt among us you know what that word dwelt is that word dwelt in Hebrew in the Greek I'm sorry is the word tabernacled okay watch this in the beginning was the word the word was with God the word was God so you have God the father the son and the father are one the father and the son are one the the son in the form of the word was with the father why is that important because God spoke everything through the word okay and then it says the two kingdoms now are no longer going to reside in a temple made by hands human hands but the word of God the presence of God is going to the kingdom of heaven watch this in the kingdom of earth are going to come together in the person of Christ that's what John's telling us he tabernacled among us this is the point where heaven and earth meet not in some building or or monument made by no in a person which is why when Jesus comes on the scene but let's go back John comes on the scene first message of John repent turn around from what you're doing stop turn around change your mind because the kingdom of heaven is at hand is that hand or near or what here here the kingdom of heaven is here right now frequently okay Jesus's first message mark one repent the time has come the kingdom of I mean the time has come repent for the kingdom of heaven is what near at hand so the kingdom of God now is not in a stationary place it is mobile because it's in the person of Jesus and it's available to anyone who submits to the will of the king okay so you and I have to redefine what we think the kingdom of heaven is so if I were to ask you what is the kingdom of heaven pray your kingdom come what is that kingdom we're praying for when I say Adam what is the kingdom of heaven what do you think it is your kingdom come what did you put that aside okay what do you think what what are most Christians thinking about when I say the kingdom of heaven oh what are most Christians thinking about like heaven one day yeah like a big like where God is in heaven when we yeah it's a place we go to it's place we go to right Chris would you say that yes yeah a place we go to right like the and it's confusing because we have places we go to like that we go to the magic kingdom they've never been to the magic kingdom yeah my favorite we haven't been in a while honey I know we haven't been in a while it's my favorite ride like I have a threshold of rides I could that represents the magic kingdom yeah yeah magic kingdom is a dollar yes yes you know what they say the only magic that happens at the magic kingdom is how Mickey makes money go from your bank account to his magically yeah it's magic you don't even know you're like where'd all that money go oh that's good I like that yeah yeah but me you know I have equilibrium problems I have I get

dizzy on rides from time to time. I have a pacemaker, I have a back injury, I have a neck injury, and I got high blood pressure. Which is funny, because my boys ride. And you're 6'6". And so, if you don't, yeah, and I'm 6'6". Like a gorilla, you ever seen a gorilla in a Volkswagen? That's me, but anyway, so when I go, so we went with some friends and their kids to Disney years ago, and every ride, they'd say, oh, we went to Universal, too, but they'd say, why are you not riding the Hulk? I'm not gonna ride that. Or why don't you ride this? And then finally, one of them said, do you not, Pastor Robin, you don't wanna ride any rides? I say, come over here, let's look at the list. We went through the list, maybe I'm not making this up. If you have these problems, do not ride this ride. Blood pressure, check. Pacemaker, check. If you get vertigo or issues with your equilibrium, check. If you have high blood pressure, check. If you have a back injury, check, don't ride. The only thing on the list I didn't check was if you're pregnant. I said, I can guarantee I'm not pregnant, but that was it, okay. So that's where we look at the magic kingdom, the United Kingdom, Britain, right?

That is not the kingdom of heaven, okay? For Jesus, the kingdom is always three things. Or it's one of three things. It's one of these three things, okay? It is never a place, though. It is never a place. We always think- I know what it's gonna be. I know what it is. Okay, you pick one. It's three things? You pick the first one, yep. It's a person. Ooh. Am I right? A person, yes. It's a power. It's a power. A person, a power. And a purpose. A purpose? No. Actually, I have two. I said three, but actually I have two. I did have three in my book, but I didn't put the third. It's a person. It's a power. Oh, it's a people. Sorry, that's the third.

It's a people. Because the kingdom of heaven in the book of Acts is the people of God. But let's just go with the person. When Jesus is questioned by the Pharisees in Luke 17, when they say about the kingdom, Jesus says, the kingdom of God is not coming with something observable, meaning no one will say here's the kingdom or there is the kingdom. Why? For the kingdom of God is in your midst. What he's saying is it's not there and here and over. No, it's here and right in the midst, because I'm here. Because Jesus is there, yeah. So where the king of the kingdom shows up, the kingdom of God is present. The second is the power. Whenever Jesus would heal people, what would he say to them? The power. The kingdom has come upon you. When he sends the disciples out in Luke 10 and he empowers them, he says to them, when you heal the sick, tell them the kingdom of God has come upon you. So think of it this way. The kingdom of heaven is the power of God, here's the definition,

in the person of Jesus through the people on earth. That's a great way to think of the kingdom. The kingdom of heaven, and by the way, kingdom of God, kingdom of heaven, there's been a lot of ink spilt on this. It's the same thing. Some say when Jesus says kingdom of God, he's talking about the God's reign and heaven is more supernatural. No, it's the same. The reason, the words are interchangeable. Kingdom of heaven, kingdom of God. The reason Matthew uses kingdom of heaven more than kingdom of God, because Matthew is an Orthodox, well, he's a Jew. He's faithfully trying to follow Jesus as a Jew, and he's writing to a Jewish audience that would not even mention the name of God. They wouldn't say Yahweh God. They would use the word Lord or heaven. Heaven is a insertion for the word God, if you're interested in that, Luke 15, the prodigal son, you can look it up. Okay, so the kingdom of heaven is the power of God in the person of Jesus through the people on earth. Through people on earth, okay? So the question we try to ask here is how do we tap into this power? How do we bring the kingdom of heaven to earth

where we live, work, and play? Now, what I was taught all my life is this. When you're praying the Lord's Prayer, our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be thy name, we're sanctified by your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done. I was taught you're praying for the return of Christ. That's what you're praying for. Maranatha, Jesus come back. It's been 2,000 years. Come on back and fix all the wrongs on earth. And so it's almost like this posture of waiting and wondering and begging, right? Anybody with me? Like that's what we're praying. Come on, Jesus, come back, okay? Sadly, I tell Christians this, sadly, many Christians today are so focused on the second coming that they neglect that Jesus came a first time. Well, that was a Lennon Ravenhill quote. I didn't get it right like him, but he said, we're so preoccupied with the second coming, we missed the first. That's how he said it. Friends, let me remind you. When Jesus ascended to heaven and he said to his disciples, guys, come here. Some authority in heaven and on earth

has been given to me. Partial authority, is that what he said, Jeremy? No, he says, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. You know what that word all means in Greek? You're gonna love this one. You know what all means, Vivian? All. It means all, it means every bit of authority in heaven, meaning. in the supernatural world, in the world you can't see, and in the earthly world where you can see, okay? So here's what Jesus is doing here, and you gotta lock in because this is going to change everything of how you view this prayer. In order to understand how Jesus is teaching, you have to understand the Hebrew literary technique that he's using. Jesus, you know this one, she knows it. Where you going, honey? You know where I'm going. You heard me say this before, it's one of my favorite teachings. In fact, just a sidebar. Oh, just a cool note, Robert, just a sidebar. I wrote about this extensively. If you're interested in the kingdom of heaven, which is cool because I think it's coming back around again. People are asking about the kingdom of heaven. When I wrote this book,

back in the day. Seven years ago, eight years ago? Here and now? Crickets. You wrote that a long time ago. Okay, maybe I wrote that. Yeah, no, I did write that. Way long ago. Okay, maybe I wrote that 10, 15 years ago. Six, seven, eight years, I don't know. It was in the past. And as you can tell, it was widely popular. Six or seven? Yeah, it was six. Robert, six or seven. Robert, six, seven years ago. Okay, that's for the young bucks. Okay. Did you write that before we came to Long Hollow? No, I didn't write it before. No, I wrote it right after. But anyway, here's the point. I thought it was groundbreaking. I thought I was onto something big. Like, how do you live out the kingdom where we live, work, and play today? It never did well. Nobody bought it. And then I started talking about it, like in church. And then all of a sudden, people bought every copy

and it was completely out of print. They never had it for sale again. And then people would come in line every week at Long Hollow. I was like, where can I get Here and Now? I was like, I got like five copies and nobody's getting them. I'm keeping them forever. That was a good run. Well, Robert finds out. Tell them, Robert. Back on Amazon. You can buy it. I guess print on demand. You can buy them. Back on Amazon. Back on Amazon. You were ahead of your time, hon. Well, I mean. You know what I'm saying? Well, no, your time has come. Yeah! With the Kingdom of Heaven. Yeah! Woo! Give him a hug, give him a hug. The Kingdom of Here and Now. Is that him? Okay, so I talk about this in the book. The literary technique, extensively, I'll give you cliff notes.

Extensively, or no, what Jesus is using is a technique called a parallelism, okay? Remember, the Hebrew language did not have bold and italics and uppercase, lowercase letters. They didn't have parentheses or quotes. So they had to use the language creatively. So what they did is Jesus uses a parallelism, which is you put two lines side by side where the words actually are synonymous with one another, and he uses it for emphasis to teach a point. And I'll give you a perfect example. Okay. Psalm 119. Kenny, look at Psalm 119, 105. Okay. You know it by heart, but Psalm 119, 105. I know it by heart. Yeah, your word. Is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path? Okay, that's it. Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Lamp and light are synonymous. Okay. Feet and path are synonymous. Makes sense. Both lines are interconnected, okay? So they're connected. So what does that have to do with your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven?

Okay, here's how it works. God is, Jesus is saying, your kingdom come, your will be done, okay? So what he's saying is, when the will of God is done, the king, I'm gonna put it in reverse order. When the will of God is done, the kingdom of God comes, just like in heaven on earth today, okay? So that's what he's saying. Let me say it another way. Let me say it this way. The kingdom of God is manifested on earth when kingdom citizens or believers, you could say, obey the will of God in their daily lives. Say it another way. We submit, when we submit to God's ruling and reigning in our lives. God's always ruling and reigning. I mean, all authority is his in heaven and earth. But when you and I, as kingdom citizens, decide to submit, man, this is groundbreaking. I want you to get this. Submit ourselves under the rule and reign of God in our life, it's as if we usher the kingdom in wherever we are. So you and I have the ability, if you're in a prison cell or a pod, you're bringing the kingdom there. If you're in a marketplace or workplace where it's pagan, you're bringing the kingdom there. When you're at the office or a ball field,

how do you do that? When you and I live like Jesus lived, love like Jesus loved, talk like Jesus talked, like Jesus taught, when we do that, we bring the kingdom on earth. So it changes everything, why? Because we're not praying, God, bring the kingdom one day in the future, no. You're praying, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Bring your kingdom, here's what you're praying. When I start living out redemptive, God, help me live redemptive acts in my life today and manifest the kingdom where I live, work, and play. The best example I've gotten from this is Dr. Bob Lindsey, who's at the Narcissus Street Congregation, who was at the Narcissus Street Congregation, he was the pastor of it, he was an American who won a Rotary Scholarship to go learn, years ago, to go learn and study at the Hebrew University. He was an American from the Midwest, I think. And he won this scholarship and he went to Hebrew University and studied under David Flusser, Shamul Shafrai. He was friends with David Bivens and Michael Pileggi and all these guys that I've studied for a year. Dwight Pryor, he knew all these guys. He was like the Godfather, but he's an American guy, which is interesting. And he pastored the Narcissus Street congregation in Jerusalem. And he wrote extensively on Jesus, the historical Jesus. But he said this, he said, this prayer, he said, the difference is that we're supporting and asking Jesus to work in us, to work through us where we live, where we can pray or play. And this is how we pray. Go, Jesus, go. This is what we're saying. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This is what you're saying. Go, Jesus, go. Break into my life today and take charge. As I submit to you, you cause the blind

to see, the lost to be saved, the lame to walk, the deaf to hear, and the devil to be squelched. Manifest your kingdom among us and use me for your glory. It's kind of like what the great, it's real strong. It's like the great philosopher JFK once said, ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you could do for your country. Here's the way Jesus would say it. Ask not what the kingdom can do for you. Ask what you can do for the kingdom. And when you and I obey the will of God, the power of God, the person of Christ exudes from our life today. And I think that changes everything for the prayer. That's good. That's powerful. Does that make sense? Well, it does. And I was thinking about how you were talking about just in the episode before about direction and destination. It's interesting that when God comes to us now and when he's with us, now we're praying for him to use us in accordance to his will. So it's, you know, the Christian life is action. You know, we have to take biblical actions. We have to live out our faith. And so, yeah, I love this because, you know, I always thought it's weird because, you know, how things break. I thought, you know, and I've always heard it taught that that particular verse 10 is like open-handed. It's like, God, whatever your will is, it's like a step of surrender. Like, God, whatever your will is, I surrender to it. And it is kind of. It's kind of like that, but you're really intentionally saying, God, I want your will to happen. I want to follow your will. I want to obey that. And it is a different posture. It's almost like when you're like a coach, like you're on the bench and you're waiting for your turn, but instead you're like, coach, I'm ready. Like, hey, put me in coach. That's good. Johnny looks tired. Like, you're more, it's more like, hey, I'm eager. Let's go. Like you're praying, God, give me an opportunity to use the scripture, use what you've taught me. Give me an opportunity to participate in your kingdom, you know? So it's a readiness. I like that, you know, I haven't heard anybody expose it like that. Well, and the thing too is, think of it this way. For years, I pray your kingdom come, your will be done passively. Like, I'm waiting for God to do something. This is not passive at all. This is more of a cooperation. This is more of a participation. God, I get to, in a synergistic fashion, work with you to bring the kingdom to earth today where I live, work, and play. Think of it this way. It plays in perfectly what we said earlier. The world last week, we said, is trying to get up to God. The false gods were in the skies and the people were built ziggurats

and these towers to go up. Our gods are what? A coming down God. See, that's the problem with most Christians today is we were sold a bill of goods, which isn't biblical. And that is, say a prayer, repeat after me, so that you could be ejected like a bottle, spiritual bottle rocket in the sky. Go, you know, sorry. Bottle rocket in the sky, so you can go to Jesus one day. And the problem is, you never find anything. That's an escapism mentality. That is not biblical. The Bible is about God coming here. We have a preoccupation with us going there. I tell people, we're trying to get out of earth to go to heaven one day. And Jesus is trying to break into earth to bring heaven to earth, where we live, work, and pray through us today. That's the difference between the Bible. And so that's why the whole, and I don't want to get into this. I know it's controversial. That's how the whole rapture seven years away in heaven never made any sense to me, because that's not biblical. What is God going to do? Take us away to go for a seven-year hiatus to party in heaven, and then we'll come back another time to be taken? No, God's all about coming here. God's about bringing the kingdom of heaven to earth today, here and now. And that's why I think progressively we're seeing more of that break in where we live. Well, it also affirms what he said in John 15, where it says, apart from my father, I can do Nothing. I think sometimes that's where we get misguided in ministry. People are always like, okay, I'm a Christian, I love worship, I love my pastor, I love hearing, but you know, I don't really know what I'm supposed to do, right? And so we think, oh, let me just figure out something that I can do, and then I'll pray that God will bless it. It's like, no, wait a second. God is at work. His kingdom is working. He's moving. He's already started. It's already here. And so I love—that's the study of experiencing God, right? It changes that mindset. And so the listener that's thinking, well, yeah, I love listeners' podcasts. I'm consuming so much content, but what do I do? Well, you start opening your ears to saying, where is God inviting you to join Him at work? And that's really what that prayer is. God, I know you're working. Your kingdom is here. I want to be a part of it. I want to get involved in it. And I think— because I remember early on, that was my thing. It was like, the world says, see a need, feel a need. That can be true, you know, if the Holy Spirit prompts you. And

then at the same time, God is actually working all around meeting needs, and He's wanting you to join Him. That's a different approach to what we do in the church. Trying to create something, and then ask God to bless it. Exactly. Yeah, I think what's cool about this is it shows us—because people always say, okay, well, what is the will of God for my life? Your will be done for my life. You know, what is God's will? Is it to marry somebody? Is it to go to a certain college? Have a certain job? Yeah, maybe that—I mean, you could figure that out. But I tell people, don't worry about the will out there that you don't know about. Obey the will right here that you do know about. So walk in the light that God's revealed. Some of you right now have been resisting God. Some of you right now have been stiff-arming God. So here's how you obey the will of God. What is obedience to God? Repent of the sin right now in your life, and start trusting God by faith. That's good. And start believing God. I heard this years ago because somebody would say, well, how do I know what the will of God is in my life? And here's what I would say. If it's easy, if it's selfish, if it brings attention to me, it's probably my will. It's what I'm gonna do. But if it's hard, if it brings attention to others, if it glorifies God, if it requires courage, then it's probably the will of God for my life. And then the natural question is, well, what if God's will doesn't line up with my will? People ask me this all the time. Well, what if I want to do this? God doesn't want me. I heard a story of a long-distance runner. He would pray. He was a big marathon runner, and he was pretty successful. He won a lot of races, and his prayer always was, God, if you let me win this race, I will glorify you. Just let me win. When I get interviewed, you know, you hear UFC fire. Just took that guy's face off and praise Jesus Christ, my Lord, and say, you know, you let me win. I'll do that. Then he said he got convicted one day as he approached the biggest race of his life, and he got convicted. And he prayed this prayer again, and the Lord responded to him after he said, Lord, you let me win. I'll honor you. And the Lord says, I know you'll honor me if you win, but will you glorify me if you lose? What if losing the race brings more glory to me than actually winning the race? Are you gonna be okay

with that? And I think that's what Jesus is getting at. We're gonna trust you, Lord, in spite of the results, in spite of how it turns out, because you're worthy to be worshipped, and you're a good God who we're gonna trust regardless, because you know best for us, and we don't have the vantage point to see what's best for us, and so we're gonna trust you anyway. That's what we're praying here. So I would say, as we close, you can't expect to experience the blessings of the King unless you surrender to the leadership in the direction of King Jesus. So you know, let me say it, you can't experience the blessings of the kingdom unless you surrender to the leadership and direction of the King, King Jesus. So wherever Jesus is saying surrender, surrender that to his life, and then walk, and then see what else he says, surrender. I love what you said, just a final thought, just when you're talking about, just a few minutes ago, about, you know, the struggles that come along in God's will, because I found in my life that pain and obedience often share the same seat, and as a young Christian, I thought, if I obey God, the blessings are coming, the blessings are flowing, you know, it's like the whole idea, like I got saved in my bank account with the $20,000, I got saved, my credit score went to $800, like no, I got saved, and I'm still messed up, I'm still sinful, and I've got to, I got to live out my Christian life of a series of obedience steps when I really don't know what's on the other side. Is it pain? Is it good? And Joseph would tell us that too, and so I think it's a good word that you're saying this is because it's like the, when you're obeying God's will, and you're saying, God, I'm gonna work with you in your kingdom, that doesn't mean that you're gonna have, you know, a gold spoon in your mouth. You might be someone who's suffering, who has a long suffering. life so anyways I tell you well you got me thinking you know we always think when I trust Jesus there's triumph in life no it's about trusting yeah trusting good or bad when I when I got married can't I were just married I think a year or two maybe a year and I remember we're driving the car and I get this phone cuz now I put my life back together I'm in seminary I'm married I

got a cell phone I got a bank account that actually has money in it you know and I remember no I got a bank account and I mean I finally got my life back and we were driving and man we were doing great and all of a sudden I get this phone it was right after Katrina right after Katrina yeah we get this phone call tell him this phone call this is crazy this just shows you I'm in ministry I'm serving the Lord I'm you know I'm preaching it we get a phone call it's like a debt collector or something it was like an old bank it was old credit card I had debt that Robbie had had mr. Gallaty you oh I think was like five seven thousand dollars just or something like that five six thousand dollars was something like that Chris mr. Gallaty yes this is me who's this this is like Chase Bank whatever we've been looking for you for five years but I could have said wait a minute Lord okay so what do we do we had to pay well I mean we worked it out and they gave me a little deal but still it was a yeah so here's the thing just because I was a Christian didn't mean I was absent or free from consequences I had a mountain of sin debt that I was gonna have to repay from consequences but I was a Christian I was preaching the word but you know this took years to kind of walk through all those bad choices and storing up they leave a mark yeah they leave a mark yeah and so but I would say to the obedience may not get us out of the pain or whatever that you know that journey might look like but God always honors obedience and it may not come from removing you from a situation but God is very good to us in spite of our sin you know like where we have created these consequences you know God can still be good in that and even if we're walking through pain or trial he will always honor obedience what that looks like and how it comes may be different for every single person but I can promise you he will do that well and yeah and we're gonna end in this because you got me thinking a lot of good stuff here but obedience is in the form of omission or commission okay so sometimes obedience is quitting something or repenting of something that's harming you but it's also stepping into something God's calling you to that you're putting off so for example let me say this as we close some of you right

now maybe one decision step of obedience away from the kingdom of God powerfully manifesting itself in your life right now that's good like powerfully right yeah so either it's a yeah it's either a sin of repentance or it's a step of faith you take and so just and if you don't know what it is ask the Lord like God what is it in my life prayer yeah ask you maybe it's giving up that you know the porn addict God help me with this porn addiction God help me with this drinking every week every night God help me with the drugs I'm taking God help me with get out of this relationship that I know I shouldn't be in God help me quitting a job or quitting a job or or could be God I want to start giving financially or God I want to start going missionally I need to sign up for a local I need to serve in my community I need to go to the prison and visit people whatever it is or I need to walk across the street and share Christ with my neighbor you're one step away potentially from the kingdom of God powerfully manifesting itself in your life with one act of obedience so good so good well once again thank you so much for joining in to the forgotten Jesus podcast before you turn this off for you pause or whatever listen please subscribe like comment share get this out we want more people to know about the forgotten Jesus you
