Hey, welcome to Crossroads, I'm Victor Martinez and whether you're arriving here for the first time or you've grown up in a church or you're exploring honestly and you're not sure about who Jesus is, we are very happy that you are here with us because during the next few weeks we are going to be entering into some of the most intense, personal and provocative statements that Jesus made about himself. The statement is, I am. And these are not nice phrases for a cup or an Instagram post, no. Jesus said things like, I am the light of the world, I am the good shepherd, I am the way, the truth and the life. These are huge statements and honestly, if Jesus really is who he said he was, that changes absolutely everything. That can change your life. Many of us live disconnected, exhausted or trying to produce more by our own strength, but Jesus says that true life does not come from forcing ourselves more, it comes from remaining connected to him. Today, we will explore what it means to remain in Jesus, find our source in him and discover the type of life and fruit that only God can produce. No matter where you are spiritually, our hope is that you not only listen to these words and move forward, we want you to think about them, to fight with them, to ask honest questions about Jesus, who you are. Because perhaps the question is not only what Jesus said, perhaps the real question is why his words can impact me today. And if there is more truth, more depth and more invitation to the words of Jesus than we imagine, then it may be that our lives can be impacted and be different. So while we listen to the message together, wherever you are, we are very happy that you are here. Where are we in the Bible? We are in the New Testament, in the Gospel according to John. It is a biography of Jesus by one of his closest friends. In it, John records seven iconic statements of I am that Jesus made, seven metaphors, seven self-portraits of the living God. I am the true vine. My Father is the harvester. Every branch in me that bears no fruit, He cuts it. And every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it to produce more. You are already clean thanks to the word that I have spoken to you. Remain in me and I in you. As the branch bears no fruit if it is not in the vine, neither are you if you are not in me. I am the vine and you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him, that is the one who bears much fruit, because apart from me they cannot do anything. Well, that is our destination for today. Good morning, I am Greg, in case we do not know each other. If you see me on the internet, I am Greg, the community pastor in Oakley and I direct all our campuses. I have the privilege of leading community pastors. Get ready, because today we will be together all the time. And it is in reality. A little contradictory, because not only will you listen to me today, I will guide you through something different. In fact, I hope that much more than listening to my voice or Cash's today,

I hope that you actually listen to the voice of the one who created you. We will guide you through an experience of prayer with a lot of music and many messages. It is different from the usual. If you have come before, this tends to be a little more of sitting down and listening. You come, you have a good worship, you sit down and depending on the speaker, you receive a message of 30 to 60 minutes. And maybe you have some time to reflect when you leave. That is different today. It is very different today. Today we have created something for you to sit down and have a conversation with Jesus in several phases. With the hope that you can hear from Him. Now, if you never did something like this before, I just want to give you a guide. I want to give you guidelines. Maybe you did something like this with headphones on and following instructions. We will do that live, but I have to tell you right away, wait for distractions. Wait for distractions. Every morning I try to start my day. First of all, I try to start my time with God. Maybe reading the Bible, maybe praying, especially in our Crossroads app. I like it because it is easy and also, oh, let's see who sent me a message. I'm acting, I don't have Snapchat. Let's see who wrote on my Facebook. I'm trying to look young for the young people. I'm praying, yes, God, thank you. Thank you for my wife, bless her today. Thank you for what you do to serve us, like making wonderful dinners. And I ask myself, what will we have for dinner tonight? Guys, come back, come back. So when you get to a point where you get distracted,

it's okay, it's normal, come back. The second is maybe a little more difficult for you. The second thing, whether you have been in crossroads for a long time or you have been trying to follow Jesus for a long time or maybe you just got here today and this is going to challenge you. From now on, you need to believe that God loves you. You need to believe that He loves you, because if you are going to hear His voice, you have to know that He loves you and not just that, that you please Him. He is not angry. He didn't see you come in today and think, I can't believe He came to church today. Did you see how His life is? That is not Him. That is not Him. So I have to tell you from the beginning, wait for distraction and believe that God is in your favor, that He loves you. Jesus has an invitation. He says, anyone who is tired, loaded. Is that you today? Did you come tired, a little overwhelmed? Are you not sure if you can continue? His promise is that if you come to Him, His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. He wants to carry the burden for you. In fact, He wants to change it for something good. And the way that Jesus says that we need to connect

to obtain that type of life, that type of rest, that restoration, is to be connected to life. That is what we will see today. How are we connected to life? Do we really have the opportunity to bear fruit? I would love to say that I have been to Napa or the vineyard region. Maybe you have been. I have never been. I have never been to the vineyard region. The only nearby place was when my wife took me near where she grew up, to a vineyard in Coleraine Township. And the only mountains in sight were Mount Rumpke. So I take a loan. I take a loan from what it is to be in a vineyard, but Jesus really explains a lot to us. Whether you have been to a vineyard or not, I believe that most of us have a basic knowledge of how not only the vines work, but all the plants. First, they must receive nutrients, right? They must receive something from the soil. Fertilizer, water, sunlight. They have to receive. And as they grow, sometimes there will be a lot of growth, so much so that it needs to be shortened. It must be trained. It must be put in the right direction. And when those two things happen,

the process produces what we are looking for. It produces fruit. It produces flowers. It produces fruit, season after season. That is what we are heading towards today. The key word in this metaphor, when Jesus says, I am the vine, is the word, to remain. Wait. Look at what John 15 says, 4. Remain in me, and I in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine. Just as you cannot bear fruit if you do not remain in me. Today I want you to think of the word remain as staying. Staying. Maintaining. Being connected in His love. If you are here, you are probably more inclined to do. So your question is, well, how do I remain? The answer is, don't do. Just be.

Remaining is being. Perhaps it would help you to be in a state of being if you visualized yourself sitting somewhere like this. You can close your eyes. Whether you are at home, perhaps on the sofa, if you are sitting somewhere, in a movie theater, I want you to use your imagination to the fullest to transport yourself to a more open place. Perhaps it is the sofa in your living room, perhaps it is a swing in your back terrace. Because I want you to imagine Jesus sitting next to you. Imagine that He says, Stay. Relax. I have much more that I want to show you and give you. And if you dedicated time to remain with Jesus today, what would happen if you two had a conversation? ¿Qué sucedería si te permitieras escuchar en vez de correr hacia la siguiente cosa importante? cuando Jesús dice algo tan radical generalmente es seguido por algo asombroso, asombroso la idea de que algo podría tener que ser cortado de nuestras vidas o podado sólo se combina con la promesa de dar algo que nunca podríamos hacer por nuestra propia cuenta, el fruto que tú y yo podemos producir con cada esfuerzo no es nada comparado con el fruto que Jesús puede cultivar en nosotros si estamos conectados a la vid Él tiene fruto que supera todo lo que te podrías imaginar pero para recibirlo puede que algo tenga que irse, volvamos a la analogía de comprar que si estoy en la caja con el carrito lleno de basura pero un empleado se acerca y dice gracias por su membresía, es miembro desde hace 10 años y si nos deja remover algunas cosas de su carrito, tenemos una televisión lcd de 70 pulgadas que pondremos en su carrito, me desharía de todo en el carrito de inmediato, diría podemos estar sin papel higiénico un tiempo, denme el televisor ese es un ejemplo tonto porque porque parece algo que nunca pasaría parece que nadie cambiaría pretzels por una pantalla plana pero honestamente creo que así es como algunos vemos a Dios ahora, no creemos que al quitar las cosas buenas de nuestra vida él es realmente capaz de reemplazarlas con algo mucho mejor pero eso quiere hacer tengo una oración peligrosa con la que puedes estar de acuerdo tal vez hablar conmigo examina mi corazón Dios que debe cortarse que debe podarse que cosas buenas necesito fortalecer que requiere mi atención que debe vaciarse quiero que mires atrás a lo que dijiste que debías recibir y me pregunto si hay algo que debe irse antes de tener espacio para recibirlo Mientras Dios te trae pensamientos, quiero que anotes lo que necesitas ser cortado. And I have a line below. I ask God for merciful husbands for them. And as I think about the fruit of my generation, God took a step further because I don't come from families with strong marriages. There are many divorces in my family. And I thought, wouldn't it be incredible if they had merciful husbands and remained married their whole lives? That seems like a fruit that I'm unable to give. Maybe you hear that and you feel, well, that boat has sailed for me. That is not true about what God can achieve through you and your generations and the people you impact.
