When God Helps Someone Else First | Crossroads Daily

Hey, welcome to Crossroads Daily. I'm Justin here with my friends. I'm Dani. I'm Miko. I'm Alex. Today, we're talking about Mark 5, where Jesus interrupts a story. It looks like the story is already over and written and Jesus interrupts it. And it's this man, Jairus, comes to Jesus desperate for help. His daughter is dying and every moment matters. But on the way there, Jesus stops to care for someone else. A woman stops him as he's on the way there, who's been suffering for 12 years. You remember, this is the lady who like touches the hem of Jesus' robe and he heals her from bleeding and suffering for 12 years, but by the time Jesus arrives to Jairus' home, the girl has already died and the mourners in the town and the friends have already accepted the outcome and Jesus, however, has not, he takes the girl by the hand, tells her to get up and she does. So I'm going to start with, um, I'm going to start with another question, not the first question, but I'm gonna start with the second question. Can you think of a time when a delay or interruption ended up serving a greater purpose? Because that's what we see here. Jesus is delayed on the way getting there, which shows that Jesus is interruptible. He sees all people suffering, things like that. But when for you, have you had to wait on something, the delay or an interruption that you've learned or seen? I see the greater purpose now that I'm on the other side of that. Yeah. Any of those stories come to mind? Well, I was going to say, Danny, you look like you have a good one.

I don't know. Um, so a few years back, Judd and I were out West and we were camping. We had to have a rooftop tent and the rooftop tents on top of this defender that we had. And so it was super tippy. It was, it's a maiden voyage with the defenders. So big, long story, but we ended up going the wrong way. And, um, even though somebody tried to stop us and said, Hey, there's a washout up here, which is where the entire mountain just washes down the side of the mountain with in a storm or whatever. And, um, we are, of course we're like, Oh, that guy doesn't know what he's talking about. We should keep going. That's a great idea. So we did. And we ended up in a really, really treacherous spot, a super treacherous spot. And so what we thought was the washout, it was hard. We got through it together and we got out of it. We're high fiving. And we was like, yeah, we're through it. We're through it. And then we got to the next part. And that was really the washout. And it was super dangerous. And being a great husband, Judd was like, get out of the car. And I was like, Oh, I'm not getting out of the car. He's like, get out of the car. And I'm like, uh, no, I'm writing with this with you. We're doing this together.

He goes, if I go to my death, you're not coming with me. I was like, so I got to throw myself off the side of a mountain. What are you talking about? I'm not going to watch you die. Well, and he said, and get out of the car and video this. Cause if, if I make it through, it's going to be epic. I'm watching video. This is crazy. I'm watching this and you can hear me the whole time. It's like, I'm watching this happen. You have a video. I have a video of this. Yes. And he comes down over this washout and literally you guys. I'll cut it short, but literally he almost goes off the side of the mountain. And I'm just praying. I'm like, Lord, please send your angels. Save us. Like save him. We're stuck out here in the middle of nowhere. There's nobody out here, nothing. And, um, thankfully he, he got through it. He came down and then we were stuck at the bottom of the washout. We're just stuck. And I'm just like, I'm praying. And I'm, you guys, I'm like sick. I just literally almost watched my husband go off a mountain and I'm dry heaving. I'm like, Oh my gosh. And of course it's like, how do we fix this? Okay.

We're going to try to winch. We're going to try to, and we're going to immediately. We try to step in and control it. Right. And really and truly we should have just stayed in prayer, but we started trying to fix it and we went to this tree and we're going to pull our vehicle out and the whole tree comes out of the side of the mountain. I mean, the whole thing was a disaster, but then all of a sudden it was like, I don't know, maybe an hour later after we tried all this stuff, we hear this truck. And there shouldn't have been anybody out there should not have been anyone out there. And we hear this truck come and it's like, it's a big truck. We can tell it's a big truck. And the guy pulls or the guy's coming down the road or whatever. And Judd's like, I'm going to go out and get him because he'll pass us. He'll never know we're here. And so he goes to the guy and he's like, Hey, stop. Do you think you can give us a pull? And the guy looks at him and he goes, I don't know why I'm out here. And Judd was like, what? And the guy goes, I don't know why. I'm. here. I was going fishing at this other lake, some other place. And Jud looks at him, he goes, I know exactly why you're here. And the guy ended up pulling us out. We got to safety. But the Lord sent him. I believe that in my heart and hearts, my deep downs. That man was not supposed to be there. He was supposed to be on the other side of the mountain. And we tried to step in and save ourselves. And God's like, I'm going to let you get to your wits end. I'm going to let you get to the place where you can't do it. And only I can do this. And here comes Willis, was his name. Here comes Willis. And Willis saved us in the Lord's name. Thank you, God. Something completely unexpected. Something you didn't see coming. Nope. Something you

couldn't make happen. Couldn't control. Yeah. Couldn't control what happened in the end. Couldn't get us out of it. Yeah. It's so hard to sit in that time in between. Yeah. And those moments of in between. Again, people look at our stories from the outside and they're like, oh, everything must have gone great with you. Your family seems so happy. You and your wife, so beautiful, everything. And you're like, wait, wait, wait. Just let me tell you about the waiting. Let me tell you about the pain that we've walked through. You know, like I remember my fourth child was born. He just turned nine. And he was born eight days before my last day at my job, which was our family's only income and things. And I did not know. We didn't know what was next. We just knew we were supposed to take one step and quit the job we were at and move into a space of waiting. And everybody now sees how the Lord's provided on the other side nine years later. And everybody's like, oh, that must have been so easy. And I'm like, no, no, no. We waited 18 months before we felt clear on what was next. And that time was like, yeah, there were peaceful days. It was great. There were other times where every morning I was waking up like, today, is this when you tell me, God, is this when you give me the thing that's next? No, just wait more. And I just had to wrestle. I had to not control it. There were times where I wanted to knock down a door and make my own way. And I kept feeling God say, just wait. Just wait. Yeah. One of the things Jesus says in this story is, do not fear. Just believe. What does that mean to you? Easier said than done, Jesus. Just don't fear. Just believe in me. Like, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. Yeah. Yeah. I think that that's, yeah, for me, that is like, oh, yeah. Easier said than done. I can say that. But do I actually feel that way? And if I was about to watch my husband go off the side of a cliff, which I would never be in that situation, I would be in the safety and dryness of my home, just to be clear. If that were me, I don't I don't know if my default would be do not do not be afraid. Just believe. And I think that's just like the humanness of me. I think I've come to a point of my life where I've gone through a lot of things that I can see in the waiting, how God has provided. But don't know if that's I don't know if that's always the default for me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I see. And I don't know, this doesn't necessarily answer your question to a T, but I think like your story and then even as we see here in the passage, the similarity I see is like, wow, Jesus, while they were waiting, while we're called to believe. Right. Like, but Jesus was also doing another thing. Yeah. You know what I mean? And with the woman, you know what I mean? He was doing another thing

thing there or with Willis. He was doing another thing to reroute or whatever the case is. So it's like in the waiting, it's not as if Jesus, as God was just sitting idle, like he's doing another thing. And sometimes that pertains specifically to what we're dealing with. And sometimes it may not. You know what I mean? Like it may have something to do with something else that's needing to occur while we're in this season. And it's like, can I trust you to to to sit in peace in the midst of this while I'm also doing a thing over here? Like that's where my mind goes when I'm seeing this, man. Yeah. And I don't know. I think that looks differently. You know what I mean? For me as well. Like sometimes I can wear that well and then sometimes I can sit in that discouragement and frustration. I think it's it's more so like by the day. Yeah. If I'm honest, like there are some times where like I am strong in that belief and you can flick me off in traffic and I will pray for you and so on and so forth. And then there's another day where, you know, I stub my toe and that's just the the tip of, you know, what is it? It just tips the scales in that moment. So I think it's day by day. Um, but then I also lean into the fact that like God you grace me throughout the entirety of it Yeah, what I'm saying? So it's not like oh My belief wasn't strong today You know, I messed up or whatever. It's like you've graced me through it. Yeah Yeah, that stuck out to me too in this passage I think I've always viewed these miracles when I've read this in the past as separate of like There's the woman who got healed and then Jairus and his daughter got healed Yeah, and when I read it through this time, I was like we're it doesn't really mention like what's going on with Jairus when Jesus is Doing the miracle for this woman. He was literally just waiting probably like hello. I was here first and I I think that I do that sometimes where when I'm praying for something that I want God to show up in and I see other people Getting their miracles. I'm like, hello Yeah, what about me? What about my thing and That can actually prevent me from being excited for what God's doing in someone else's life That's right. I think in just really quick I'm reminded of how this passage just shows up in an arm in another gospel And it actually tells us that the girl is 12 years old and then the yeah with the issue of blood has had that for 12

No, I'm like like what is the significance in that like because of all of the different things like Lord Why did we need to know her age? And yeah, also make it clear That's like the year that this woman has started her journey of this You know issue of blood was the year that this child was born and then 12 years later their miracle would happen You know at the same time Yeah, there's something in it that feels like Jairus was He was with the guy who wasn't afraid And there is a confidence that comes when you're with like he's watching Jesus and he's like Jesus doesn't seem rushed or hurried Yeah, he seems like he's not afraid. So I'm just gonna walk with him Yeah, when he says do not fear just believe I think I often it it needs to translate to me Oh, yeah, I'm in his arms. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I'm in his care. Yeah. Oh, yeah. He's not afraid. Yeah, he's got me Yeah, so I can walk with him. Yeah, and I can deal with unknown. Yeah, and his timing Yeah, he's doing something bigger than what I see That's it for today
