What’s My Name I Robert Madu I Social Dallas
In “What’s My Name,” Pastor Robert Madu points us to a powerful truth: every name of God is an invitation to know Him. Even in the seasons of our lives we never would have chosen, God can still meet us there and reveal who He is. If you have a need, He has a name.

Come on, can we thank God for our social global family that's watching from around the world? Y'all can do better than that for social global? Come on, man. Let us know in the chats where you're watching from, and it's gonna be a good day today. You look good. You look like you got confident trust in the Lord. I got the strange suspicion that some people, like this is your first time, or your first time in a long time. Somebody tricked you and said, "Hey, let's go to lunch," and then they pulled up to Texas Trust. You're like, "This is not Chipotle." I don't know how you got here. I do know there's a reason why you're here, but can you give me a wave if it's your first time or your first time in a long time? I just wanna see. Come on, man. That's amazing. Come on, social. Would you make them feel so welcome? Wouldn't you let you're here, for real, for real? So, so glad. Maybe this is like your first time to church in a long time. You're a little bit nervous,
and you're like, "I have so many people." You can just chillax. You're already family. You're not gonna get beat up today. I believe you're gonna be built up, and you're gonna leave different than the way that you came in. Hey, man. So, my name is Robert. I get the honor of leading this church with my wife, Taylor. And we're so glad that you're here, man. It would be boring if it was just us and our kids, but I'm glad that you're here today. I mentioned trust because that is our word for 2026. We as a church, we have a word that really frames our year, and our word for this year is trust. And our regular trust, not ratchet trust, confident trust in the Lord. Anybody got some confident trust in the Lord? How many of you got more trust now than you had when the year started? Come on. So that's the hope. And so every single Sunday, we remind ourselves of this confident trust by reading our verse of the year. It's in Hebrews chapter 10, verses 35 to 37. We have declared this every Sunday in 2026, and we gonna do it again today already. Come on, with uplifted, caffeinated voices.
You don't go till I say. Yeah. So do I. (upbeat music) For in just a little while, and not delay. Anybody believe it? (upbeat music) Amen. Then we're going to jump into the word today. Maybe you're new, like, do they ever sit down in a minute? In a minute. We're going to jump into part two of a series that I kicked off last week called Name Tags. How many were here last week? Can I see your hand? Come on, and you came back in the rain. Extra credit. I love this series because if our word this year is trust, we've got to know the character and the nature of our God, and he has revealed it in his names. And so every single week, we're going to be looking at a different name of God. And so this is number two of what is like, I think like a seven week series. Can y'all go seven weeks? We'll see, we'll see. And so I want to look at Exodus today. Exodus chapter three.
And I want to look at verses 13 through 15. Exodus three, we'll start at verse number 13. And go down to verse number 15. We are jumping into the middle of a conversation that Moses is having with God. "Hold on." Well, I heard it over here on this side. I'm going to wait for you, Genesis. Exodus. If you're in Ephesians, you went too far. You went too far. Come on down. Exodus 3, verse 13, "Moses said to God, 'Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you.' And they ask me, 'What is his name? Then what shall I tell them?' And God said to Moses, 'I am who I am.' This is what you are to say to the Israelites, 'I am has sent me to you.' God also said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, 'The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is my name forever. The name you shall call me from generation to generation. Can you say amen? That is good stuff. So good. I want to just put a title to this text today in the second part of this series and preach to you from this thought, 'What's my name?' 'What's my name?' Last week was, 'Stop playing with my name.' This week is simply, 'What's my name?' Look at your neighbor. One more game. Whichever one you like the best and just say neighbor. I want to know. What's my name? Come on, find another neighbor. Your second option. Come on, say other neighbor. Do you know my name? Now pause and see if they do. See if they do. Father, speak to us today. Have your way. And Lord, I selfishly pray that you would help your team, America's team, the Dallas Cowboys, to defeat every Texan from Houston today. In Jesus' name, amen. You may be seated. You may be seated. Don't judge me. I pray for everything. I pray for everything. What's my name? Social fam, have you ever found out somebody's real name? And then quietly thought to yourself, 'Ain't no way that's your real name.' Anybody ever done that before? I think it's funny, especially when we become so familiar with like nicknames and stage names. Sometimes you can become so familiar with that name that when you actually hear a person's birth certificate name, you will think that's the fake name. This is especially true with musical artists. I know this because I got to be honest, I was raised on hip-hop. Actually, that's not true. I was raised on gospel. But I had to sneak in my hip-hop. I had to sneak in my hip-hop and I remember the first, one of the first hip-hop albums I got was my dude Busta Rhymes. Busta Rhymes.
Yes, don't judge me. I remember jamming Busta Rhymes. Busta Rhymes. And it's interesting, while I was jamming Busta Rhymes, I did not know his real name. Nobody told me that Busta's real name is Trevor Smith Jr. That is his birth certificate. I'm sorry. Trevor does not have Busta energy. It just does not. It doesn't work. It doesn't work. Trevor, what it is right now. It's not the same. It's not the same, but that is his real name. What about this name? Bruno Mars. Bruno Mars. Come on, that name just sounds like a superstar. Bruno Mars, that name just sounds like you out of this world. I'm just trying to wake some of y'all up. It's right. It's right. But that's not his real name. His real name, his birth certificate name. Wait for it. Peter Hernandez. That is his real name. That don't sound like it's out of this world. Peter Hernandez sound like it's up the street. Come on. It's somebody named Peter Hernandez in here today. All names hit different when you find out somebody's real name. Not all name changes carry the same weight. Oh no. There are some name changes that don't have anything to do with a stage name. There are some name changes that have everything to do with somebody's identity. It's like who they are. I'm reminded of a heavyweight boxer from Louisville, Kentucky, who made this declaration float like a butterfly. Stained like a bee. My name is Muhammad Ali. Yeah, that was his name, but that was not his name he was born with. His name was clashes clay. Clashes? Did I say clashes? was getting ready to fight Ernie Terrell and tensions were high even before the fight. The reason tensions were high is because Ernie Terrell refused to call him Muhammad Ali. You can watch the interview in the middle of the interview as he continued to call him Cassius Clay. All of a sudden Muhammad Ali got mad in the middle of the interview and said, "Hey man, why won't you call me by my name?" And Ernie Terrell said, "You were Cassius Clay when I met you, so that's why I'm gonna call you." And Muhammad Ali said, "Either you will say my name right now or you will say my name when I punish you in the rain." And that is exactly what he did. He punished him in the rain. Y'all, it was not even a fair fight. It started off fair, but all of a sudden Muhammad Ali started doing what he did. And about the eighth round, y'all, it was practically over. Ernie Terrell, all of a sudden had two black eyes. His knees were wobbling. I wish Muhammad would have just knocked him out, but he didn't. He was dancing and just like he was playing with him. And every time he would hit him, every time he would jab him, he kept asking and saying something over and over and over and over again. And it was, "What's my name? Jab, jab. What's my name? One, two, three. What's my name?" All of a sudden, they rang the bell and Ernie Terrell and his team went to the corner. Muhammad Ali did not go to
the corner. He stayed in the middle of the rain with both his fists in the air saying, "What's my name? What's my name?" And just to let you know, he won the fight. Unanimous declaration. And from that moment on, Ernie Terrell and every single news media outlet called him Muhammad Ali. It's interesting because once they saw his power, they had to respect his name. Once they saw the strength that he had, they had to respect his name. Can I tell you what I love about our God? I love that our God has all power in his hand. He is the heavyweight champion of the entire universe. He's the heavyweight champion of eternity. And how many of you know, his name should be respected and his name will be respected. How many of you can choose to respect his name now or you can respect his name later because the Bible says this coming a day when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God, the Father, his name has to be honored. His name has to be reverent. His name will be respected. And yet the God who has all power whose name must be respected, don't miss this, desires to be known. Think about that. He has all power, but yet he desires to be known. He wants us to know him. And that's really the heart of this series. I told you last week, if you were here, that in your Bible, there are over 60 names that your God has, over 60 names. And I gave you the thesis of the entire series. Here's the thesis of name tags. Every name is an invitation to know him. Every single name is an invitation to know your God because his names reveal his nature. His names reveal his character. His names let us know what he is like. Hear me. If you have a need, God has a name. Ooh, something about the doves. Look at your neighbor and just say that, say neighbor. If you have a need, God has a name. If you have a need, he has a name. It brings me to my text today in Exodus chapter number three. I need you to know that Exodus chapter three is a big deal. If you brought a paper Bible, you paper Bible saved, it might help you just to highlight all of Exodus chapter number three because this is a pivotal moment in Scripture. It is a big deal. This is the first and only place in your Bible where a human being asks God for a name and he answers by revealing the name he wants his people to know and remember him by. This is more than God just setting a bush on fire in the wilderness. This is a miraculous and unique moment of divine self-disclosure. The Creator is about to tell the creation something about himself that we could not discover on our own. God is revealing his name to a man by the name of Moses. And what makes me so intrigued about this moment is that God is not the one who initiates talking about his name. Moses brings this up. You'll note that when God encounters Moses, he lets him know,
I am the God of your father. I am the God of Abraham. I'm the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He lets him know who he is. But it is Moses that asks the question, what is your name? but they ain't here. I am, and I want to know your name." And it should not be intriguing to us that Moses asked this name about identity. Because how many know the reason he's asking who God is is because he doesn't know who he is. Oh, come on, somebody. So you ought to pay attention to the questions that people ask, because sometimes we ask things outwardly that reveal what's going on inwardly. And just the questions on our lips that reveal the tension that is in our lives. So I know why Moses is trying to figure out who God is because Moses doesn't know who he is. He's going, "God, who are you? I want to know," because he has been wrestling with his identity for his entire life, trying to figure out who am I. I'll give you the quick background version of Moses. In fact, I'll give you the Wikipedia version. Here's the thing you need to know about Moses. He is Hebrew by birth, Egyptian by upbringing, and he's admitting by circumstance. One more time for the people in the back. He is Hebrew by birth, Egyptian by upbringing, and he's admitting by circumstance, Hebrew by birth. I mean, oh, birth, that's the things that we're just born into that we had no choice over. Upbreaking are the things that shaped us, and we don't even know that they were shaping us while they were shaping us. And then there's circumstances, circumstances. The things that we didn't pick or plan for, we just found ourselves in. Can anybody relate to having issues in your identity because of things that you faced,
either because of birth, because of upbringing, and because of circumstance? I'll take those three claps. Come on. Some of us are facing things just from birth. Come on. Just happen when you open up your eyes. It was in the boardroom of heaven talking about, I want this family. Yeah. I want this type of mouth. No, we just woke up, ass open and you got what you got. I'm convinced that's why babies come to the world crying. That's why everybody is smiling. They crying because they know how this is going to cost me therapy. We come knowing that it's going to be bad. You were just born in it, born into that family. Then there's the things that we face in our upbringing, the things that were normal in your house, what you saw, what you heard, what you learned, what you had to unlearn. Then there's the things we faced by circumstance, the things where something changed. Life just happened, something broke, something didn't go the way that you thought it would go. Yeah, this is Moses. He's grown up with a contradiction his entire life. What did you do when you were born as a Hebrew, but now you're raised in an Egyptian house hole. Can you imagine the contradiction going on in Moses? He didn't even know where he fit in. Because come on, he's not really Hebrew enough to kick it with the Hebrews because he's raised in an Egyptian household, but he's not Egyptian enough to hang with the Egyptians because they know he's a Hebrew. He don't even know how to put on the mascara right and the little wig because he's not
from the, it is a war that's going on on the inside of him. This is how Moses grew up until one day and he's walking out. He sees a Hebrew slave and an Egyptian fighting against each other. He sees an external picture of what's happening on the inside of him and what does he do? He goes up and he beats the Egyptian to death. He could fight, put the Muhammad Ali hands on him, beat him to death and buried him in the sand. Y'all, if this is a Netflix series, come on, this is a murder story in Egypt. That's what this is right here. Just defeated that Egyptian, hid the body in the sand, but I also think he beat up the Egyptian that was on the inside of him because he made a declaration. That is not who I am. I know who I really and anybody know what it's like to finally have a moment where you say I'm tired of being defined this way. I've got to make a decision for God, I live and for God, I die. This is who I am. Moses made a decision, but oh, you better be careful trying to accomplish the plan of God in your own strength because that's what he did. He beat up that Egyptian and thought nobody saw it, but they saw and all of a sudden he is on the run for his life and he runs to a place called Midian. He gets to Midian, not because he wanted to be there. He gets to Midian because he is running from his past. Does anybody know what it's like to end up in Midian? Midian is the place you didn't pick. Midian is the season of your life that you did not sign up for. Midian is the place that you said, "God, if I was picking my calendar and picking where I wanted to go, this is not the place I would pick." I would not have picked being a single mom in this season of my life. in this season of my life. God, I would not have picked them laying me.
Does anybody know what it's like to end up in Median and a place you didn't pick and a season that you weren't dreaming for? And you're saying, "God, how did I end up here?" And you find yourself rehearsing the mistake that you made saying maybe if I would have done something different, I wouldn't end up here. Somebody knows what it's like to be in Median. The place you didn't pick, but I got good news for somebody in Median. Guess what? God can still meet you in Median. God can still show up in Median. Don't despise your Median season 'cause God has a way of showing up even in the seasons that you say, "I didn't pick this season." God can show up in Median. Somebody can testify in this place today that you have seen God show up in Median. I wouldn't have picked losing my job, but he sure did show up. Guess what? I'm still eating three meals a day. I'm still standing. I wouldn't have picked going through this storm right now, but it showed up in Median, the fact that I still got my right mind and I haven't lost it. It's proof that God will show up in Median. Somebody ought to give them some praise like you're in Median right now.
I'm telling you, Median might not be where you planned, but it can still be the place where God plans to meet you. (congregation cheering) It might not be the place you picked, but God has a way of showing up in Median. Ask me how I know, 'cause Moses is in Median. Homeboy is 80 years old and he thinks this is my life, watching sheep in this outfit. Man, I dress better in the Egypt, I tell you that. And right when he thinks it's an ordinary day and nothing's gonna change for him, he notices something. He notices a bush that is burning. Now you gotta understand, that was not out of the ordinary in that time period. They would have bushes in that climate that would catch on fire. One thing is they didn't keep burning. It's all of a sudden, here he is thinking it's an ordinary day, that God has forgotten about him. And he looks at that bush and he's like, "Hey, that bush sure has been burning a long time." Oh, let me watch these sheep. Bad, if you don't get back over here. (congregation laughing) That thing has, it's still burning. Let me, let me go over here and look at it.
Oh, yeah, I'm feeling it the way I need you to feel it. I need you to see it in the text, watch it. It says, "When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, Moses, Moses, and Moses said, "Here I am." When the Lord saw that he noticed, he spoke. God did not speak before he noticed. God only spoke from the bush when he noticed, oh, couldn't it be possible that you are walking around burning bushes? But you two busy scrolling that you don't even notice that God has set up an encounter for you. And God's saying, "I'm not gonna speak until you look up "and notice the thing I need you to notice." 'Cause sometimes God speaks to get your attention and sometimes God won't speak until he has your attention and look at Moses when he went over and he saw the bush burning. All of a sudden, God spoke. Oh, I wonder what burning bushes you've been walking past. 'Cause you was on TikTok. Have you turned on your notifications for God? Or do you have the wrong notifications on? 'Cause I'm telling you, he will notify you in your spirit. He will notify you in different moments that if you are not careful, you'll walk right past the burning bush and then have the nerve to say, "God, you so silent." Then she was speaking the season, "Look!" So Bush has been burning over there.
And when Moses noticed God spoke from the bush, I am convinced that the greatest spiritual discipline is not trying to get God to speak louder. It is getting the noise and the distractions out of my life. So I can notice there's a bush that's been burning. What happens? He goes to that bush. When God saw that he saw and God speaks to him, what does he say? - No, is this, no, is this. - Says his name twice, just because I'm y'all ADD and I got to keep you engaged. Would you do me a favor? When I count to three, just say your name twice, whatever your name is, okay? When I count to three, say your name twice. One, two, three. - You have no idea what that is. But I need you to see something. When he notices the bush, God speaks and says his name twice, which lets me know, hear me, that before Moses asked God what his name was, God knew what Moses' name was. Do you know how good news that is? To know that he knows my name before I even ask what his name is? I'm saying this for somebody in here today, you're still trying to figure God out, but understand God is not trying to figure you out. God knows your name before you ever ask him
a question about his name. And here Moses is about to ask God what his name is and God already knows his name, Moses, Moses. He speaks to him and starts the conversation. And what does he tell him? He says, "Moses, I need you to take off your sandals 'cause you are standing on a holy ground." It's moments like this that I realize, I can't be in the Bible, I can't be in the Bible because I take things too literally and I'll be like, hold on, God. How is this holy ground? I'm out here in Midian, not Miami, not the Maldives. I'm in Midian with some sheep and I know what sheep do. And you trying to tell me that this little space of dirt that I've walked through before is holy ground? How is this holy ground? It don't look like holy ground. It looks ordinary to me, it doesn't look holy and that's what some of us have to understand. The thing that makes it holy is that his presence showed up. That when God's presence shows up, how many are thankful today that ordinary places become places that are holy, whenever the presence of God shows up in that place. His presence makes the difference. Or somebody in here can testify. God's presence makes ordinary places, holy places. And some of us are walking past ordinary places when we need to be inviting God into that ordinary place
and God says, I can make that ordinary place holy if my presence can show up. Let me just testify, if anybody knows, come on, it's social Dallas. We have been in 14 different venues. These were not venues that were constructed to give God praise. But how many of you know when we show up in that venue, all of a sudden Texas trustee it becomes a holy place, not because of the concrete, not because of the lights, but because of a God who says, when my people show up and start praising me, all of a sudden it's holy ground. (congregation clapping) I've seen them do it. I've seen them do it at fair part. I've seen them do it at Granada Theater. I've seen them do it at a whole lot of venues and I sure can't wait to see them do it at 1-0, 1-1-0, technology boulevard, but until then, I'm gonna make every ordinary space. Become a holy space because I want his presence to show up. Elbow the person next to you that's about to fall asleep and then say, they ma'am the whole service and just tell them, you need his presence, you need his presence, tell them, you need his presence, you need his presence. You need his presence. Watch this. He shows up, he says, this is holy ground because of my presence and watch this. He starts revealing his character
before he reveals his name. In the beginning, verse seven, verse seven. The Lord said, I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians. Ooh, we read it fast, but don't miss it. God says, I want you to know my character before you even know my name. So watch this, I have seen what you're going through. I have heard what you're going through and I know what you're going through and I have come down to where you are. Do you see the four levels of care that your God has for you that he can see what you're going through? He can see what nobody else can see, that he can hear what you're going through. He can hear the prayer requests that you won't even pray. He can hear what nobody else can hear. He knows how you're posting and how you're really living. He knows when you tell everybody I'm fine that you're not really fine. And I'm thankful He doesn't stop there. He says, "I have come down to where you are. I can meet you where you are." That is the gospel that we have a God that can see you, that can hear you, that knows you, and says, "I'll come down." I'll shout on my own sermon. Y'all sleep because of the rain.
I'm having church on this thing right here. It's hard to find somebody that'll do that. You can find people that'll stop it. I see you. Oh, yeah, they'll say, "Oh, I saw you stranded on the highway the other day. Was that you?" Yeah. Yeah, people that see you. You'll have people that'll hear you. In fact, some people will hear you and then talk about you. Did you hear about it? Did you hear about so and so? Very few people know you. And then we have a God. He says, "I don't stop there. I will come down." You better be glad I got bad knees and this stage is too high. I will come hard away down there. He says, "When nobody else sees and nobody else hears, and you feel like nobody else knows, I'm the God that sees, hears, knows, and I'll come down." But this is also where this text gets confusing. Because right after he says, "I've seen, I've heard, I know, and I have come down." He didn't have the nerve to tell Moses. So now go. I'm sending you to Pharaoh. Hold on, God. If you have come down. What you need me for?
If you have come down, if you see, you hear and you know and you have come down, why are you sending me? Let me chill in me then. It's me, but I'll stay there. Why do I need to come down for? How come you need me? Oh, don't get a twist in Moses. I don't need you, but I am inviting you to participate in my plan and my purpose in the earth. Who am I preaching to in this place today? How am I thankful that your God is sovereign? He's going to make sure what he wants accomplished, gets accomplished. But he is inviting his people to participate in his plan and his purpose in the earth. And he ain't got time for you to sit up there and talk about your insecurities, your insufficiencies, and why you can't do it. Because it's got nothing to do with your power. It's got everything to do with the power that's going to work through you. I know you can't spit a red sea, but just do what I tell you. And when you raise your staff, watch the water split. I felt that thing right there. Tell somebody God don't need you, but he's inviting you to participate. Yeah, Moses, here's how I'm coming down. I'm coming down through you. Sometimes when God is sending somebody to bring deliverance, he does it through you. He does it through, watch this, your obedience. So here's a thought. Who is on the other side of your obedience? Waiting for you to come down. When you're saying, God, you really, really come down.
You know how many people in the season, man, I see the building, man. I'm praying for you. Can you so? It's so funny how we always think somebody else is going to do it. Somebody else will serve. Who do they got on them people? Somebody else will serve. Isn't it funny how we'll be in a stall and somebody is waiting on your obedience. Moses hits God up with the same thing you hit God up with. Who am I? Who am I to go? And I love God's response to who am I. You would think that God would have gave Moses a pep talk. Who are you? Well, I'll tell you who you are. You're the head and not the tail. You're above and not beneath. Come on, suck it up, buttercup. You're going to make it. No pep talk. This is God's response to Moses. Who am I? He says, I will be with you. I'm not even going to entertain your question about your insecurity. The only confidence you're going to get in this season is I will be with you. Is there anybody in here that knows what it's like to say? That's the only thing I got on my resume. I don't got my intellect. I don't got my talent. I don't got enough gifting.
I even got the credit score for this thing. The only thing I got is that... I got every thing I need. Somebody give him some praise in this place. He's with you, he's with you. Why are you stressing when he's with you? Stop giving God your PowerPoint presentation of why it can't be you. 'Cause he ain't trying to have that conversation. He's gonna tell you, I'll be with you, okay, well, if you're gonna be with me, who do I say, who do I say sent me? What name do I tell him, God? Moses, tell him, I am that I am. Moses, tell them, I am sent me to you. We on packet, isn't that crazy? Moses is asking for a name and God goes, I am who I am. Who I'm supposed to say sent me? Me? (congregation laughing) Who is me? I am. (congregation laughing) I love it because how many, you know, you don't need all the words when you have all the power. (congregation clapping) Anybody is trying to give you a long dissertation on their credentials and tell you everything. They are compensating because they know they have insecurities and insufficiencies.
Not your God, he doesn't have a whole lot of words 'cause he knows he's got all the power. I am who I am and tell them I am sent me to you. I love it because the reason Moses is asking what your name is not just because he's confused about who he is, he's also used to a culture where certain gods had certain jurisdictions over certain things. So I know the sun God deals with the sun and the moon God deals with the moon and the God of the Nile River deals with the Nile River. So can you at least God give me a category that I can put you in? And God is in essence saying there is no category that you can put me in because I am the God of absolutely every faith. I have authority over every single that you can't put me in a category. That's what Pharaoh was about to mess around and find out. He's the God of the frogs and the flies. He's the God of the locust and the God of the Nile River. He's God over everything. Moses, you cannot put me in a box and limit who I am. I am that I am. There is no area where God does not have authority. Verse 14, I am who I am. But then verse 15, this is what we're laying. Verse number 15, he says, God also said to Moses, say to the Israelites, the, the, the God of your fathers,
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob has sent me to you. This is my name forever. The name you shall call me from generation to generation. What is that name? It says Lord in the text. But you understand in Hebrew, that word, here's a name tag reveal, is Yahweh. Yahweh is the name. This is the covenant name that God chooses to give Moses. This is his name tag in scripture. I'm gonna help you anytime you are looking through your Bible and you see Lord in all caps. That is Yahweh. That is God saying, I am what I have always been and I will be what I will always be. I am a God that has covenant with you. I will keep my promise. His name is Yahweh. Here's what I'm believing in this series. That when we start singing these songs, you won't just sing it like your songs on the screen in this Christian karaoke, but every time we start singing stuff like Yahweh, rah-fah, there's a reason we start with Yahweh. God said, I want that to be my name forever. I want you to know that I am who I will be forever. You can't put me in a box. I am every single thing that you need Moses. If you need peace, I'll be peace.
If you need joy, I'll be joy. If you lost and you don't know where to go, I'll be a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day. If you need food, look up, bread. I'll start coming down from heaven. If you need water, get a rock. Water will come out of the way. I am who I am. You can't limit me to one thing, In ancient Hebrew, they primarily wrote in consonants. That's why you'll see YHWH. This is Yahweh, his name forever. And I love that because he is El Shaddai. He is Elroy. He is Rafa and Jaira and Shalom. But he said this Yahweh, I want this to be my name forever. Can I give you one verse? I didn't give first service. 'Cause he does it again in Exodus 6. Let's look at it, Exodus 6. God spoke to Moses and said to him, I am the Lord, there it is again, Yahweh. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. As God Almighty, that's El Shaddai. But by my name, the Lord, I did not make myself known to them. I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived as sojourners. Interesting, he's saying, Moses, I'm giving you a name that I didn't even give Abraham, Jacob, and Isaac.
They didn't have this revelation of who I was, but Moses, they had a different assignment. You have an assignment that needs you to know, I am everything that you need. So he reveals himself, and somebody needs to know that. 'Cause there's a difference between knowing the name and knowing what the name means by experience. Okay, I'ma go home after this. There's a difference between knowing the name, and knowing what the name means by experience. Okay, y'all gonna get it? First service didn't get this one. It's like, I know Michael Jordan. I know that name, I know that name very well. I know that you don't say I'm the LeBron James or something, you say I'm the Michael Jordan or something, so that just kinda settles the goat debate. I know that name, I know it, have known it for a while. How many know there's a difference between knowing that name and experiencing that name? Can you imagine, I'm sorry, this time I'm on work and shout out to my parents who are part of our church. Can you imagine if my mama came up to me after service? It's just something I gotta tell you something. I haven't told you this and I feel like it's time for you to know. But that ball-headed man, Robert Medoux, that you've been calling your daddy is not your father. There's another ball-headed man. Who is your real daddy? And it's Michael Jordan.
Wow, I've known that name for a long time. But now that my mama is telling me about my relationship with that name, that's gonna change absolutely everything. You mean to tell me he is my father? You may all get ready, we about to hit our goal now that I know who my father is, something's about to change. I'm thinking back now, all the money I spent on all them, Jay's not knowing I had relationship. How many know I'm gonna have access now? I've always known the name that didn't change. She just gave me revelation of my relationship with the name. Oh, do you hear what I'm saying to you? It's one thing to know your way. It's another thing to know your relationship and connection to your way. That he is a promise keeper. He is a way maker. He is everything you need somebody. Give him the best praise that you got. If you know there's something about knowing your relationship with that name, Abraham knew the promise, but Moses was about to see the fulfillment. Abraham died, Isaac died, Jacob died, and now their descendants are slaves in Egypt and it looks like the promise has failed, but God says I am Yahweh. Here's the part of the definition of Yahweh. He's a covenant keeping God. Yahweh is the God who says I remember my promise.
It may look like the promise has died, but I am faithful from generation to generation to generation. That's my name. I came to talk to somebody who's admitting right now and you feel stuck and you think that God has not been faithful because nothing around you looks like he's fulfilling his promise. I declare to you today, ♪ Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah ♪ The strength of a promise is connected to the character of a person. Because his character has been consistent from generation to generation to generation, in spite of what I'm going through, I lift up my hands and say, "Yahweh, Yahweh, would you stand to your feet all over this place today?" Father, thank you that you keep your covenant. Lord, I can look back over my own life and testify. You have been faithful. Lord, thank you that every single name is an invitation to know you. So Lord, today we put our hope and our confidence in the consistency of your character. You are Yahweh. You will always be who you have always been. You are the great I am. So whatever we need, we can trust you. Father, would you help my brother and sister who's struggling to see the promise right now? Would you remind them your faith for generation to generation? That you cannot lie. You're a covenant-keeping God. And so we put our hope in Yahweh. This is holy ground. So Lord, we honor and reference your name. It would help us not to just know it. Entitled, but by experience. You are the great I am. Yahweh will be your name forever. From generation to generation. As there's a bowled and eyes are closed today, I really feel that somebody needs to know this. He is Yahweh from generation to generation because he's faithful. And it also reminds us that his purpose and plan is so big that it goes beyond just you. It goes to generations. You have to be careful. When you say, well God, you didn't come through. The story is still being written. Abraham died in faith for a promise that a future generation won't get to. So when I declare Yahweh, I'm saying I trust you.
And even if I don't see it in my generation, I believe generations after me will declare the glory and goodness of God. So it heads bowed and eyes closed. We never want to end the service without giving somebody an opportunity to respond to Jesus, to Yahweh. It's amazing how one decision can change an entire lineage. My father, Robert Madhu, had no idea when he was in Oedi, Nigeria. Grew up in a culture where they worshiped idols, but he made a decision in Nigeria to surrender his life to Yahweh, the true and living God, and didn't know then that he would leave Nigeria and come to the United States and meet my mom and have a son that would have a church social Dallas. I'm telling you, you don't know what's on the other side of your O media. So it heads back on an ask close today as we close. If you hear today and say, "Hey, PR, I have not surrendered my life to this Savior." I feel like there's somebody that's like Moses, "You've been on the run, and God is not through with you. There's a call on your life, and this is your burning bush moment, please pay attention. He's speaking to you. There's a reason you're here today." So it heads back on an ask close today as you say, "Hey, PR, please include me in this closing prayer. I need to give Jesus my life today. We just lift up your hand high enough and long enough to where I could see it. Thank you, Jesus. Anybody else? I see that hand. Thank you. I see that hand. I see those hands. Thank you.
Hands are caught up all over this place today. Thank you, God. Thank you, Lord. That's all He wants. Respond. Respond when He speaks. Anybody else? Thank you. I would have you come to the front, but we have constraints about this venue, and I want to honor that. So we're all going to pray this prayer together, especially those of you who just lift up your hand and responded, "Can we declare this as one family today? Would you say this say Jesus today?" I surrender. No more running. I surrender to you. Jesus, I believe that you are the Son of God. Thank you, God, that you see me, that you hear me, that you know me, and that you came down. You live the life that I was supposed to live, and you died to death, that I was supposed to die. You took my place on the cross, so I give you everything. Forgive me of my sins. Make me brand new from this moment forward. I'm walking with you, Yahweh. You are a God who keeps your promises. Amen, amen, amen.
Come on, if you've got what you pray, can we give? Yahweh, praise to them. Come on, I may really give them some praise. Like, you know, he is a covenant-keeping God. Come on, he's a faithful God. Hallelujah. Come on, Pastor Jobs.
