In today's episode, we're going to talk about why you feel unqualified with God, why it's okay to actually feel unqualified with God, and towards the end, we're going to talk about why that actually qualifies you for the grace of God. Nice. Welcome back to another episode on the Unlearn Wisdom Podcast with yours truly, Jonny Chang. Pastor Jonny Chang. Sorry, sorry, Pastor Jonny Chang, where each episode is a gospel-centered lesson that you could apply to your life today. Wow. Crushed the intro. Heck yeah, guys. I've been reading books. Nice. Wow. I've been recalling memory. Like Kai Sanat? Yeah. No, legit, I've been reading books, though. I've been thinking my brain has just been getting smooth brain. And I've been reading this book called The Shallows. I recommend it to everybody. Talks about what the internet and just the net age has done to our brains. Bro, it makes sense. I can't remember sometimes where my keys are. The only thing I know is the gospel. So it's because I read the Bible every day. But there's an exercise where you recall something, like you'll sit there and you have to recall three important things that happened. And you can't peek, you can't do anything, you have to write down three things. And then you have to write a summary, like a one paragraph summary of what happened. So when I read the book, I read it for 15 minutes, and I'm like trying to recall the three things that stuck out. And then and it's like making my brain just more active. And I'm like not doom scrolling. I'm not it's just been really, really good. So I feel like that's what's been it's going to help us with our ads and everything too.

Can you recall what you did last? I'm not going to say Monday because we shoot the podcast. Can you recall the podcast? Wow, you're getting way better. Do you recall what you did last last Wednesday? Last last Wednesday? Last Wednesday. Last Wednesday, I was sick. And what did you do though? And I was I took my pills in the morning. I ordered Uber Eats at like 12 o'clock at not midnight, but like 12pm. And I remember getting a buy one get one free. It was a kebab. Okay, come up. It was Yeah, buy one get one free. It was $21.68. And then I Man, this book is working already. I don't remember after that. Let's try to test Aaron. $28 for a kebab? No $21.68 and it was a buy one get one free. They charge you double price and give you an extra one. Really? But it was a rice combo though. No, no, that's good. But let's see if he can remember what he did last Wednesday. Yeah, last Wednesday, I was getting laughing gas under the under the knife of a dentist. I was having a crown put in last Wednesday. So I don't remember a lot of it to be honest. But I remember that that's what happened. I feel like last week is too easy. What happened two weeks ago? Two Wednesdays ago? Yeah, I have no recollection. I have to look at a calendar. I'll be honest, the crown gave me a good out because that's like a significant thing to remember. If I didn't get a crown last Wednesday, I would have no idea asking what I did last Tuesday. No idea. No clue.

But the whole point of this is just to like, try to think when it's so easy to like, write notes and stuff like that. It's like don't write notes, just recall. And now it's like making your brain like, and I'm like, at first it's grueling. It's kind of like when you quit smoking, anyone who smokes cigarettes out there. The first three days are the worst. But literally, when I was doing that, the first three days, I was like, Oh, this is so hard. I can't recall anything. I can only recall scripture and things like that. But it's because I do that every day. And so to sit there and be like, dang, and then there's another exercise where like, you have to like, call out like, you have to be like, I'm putting my keys. And I'm putting my I don't know my shoes, like my wallet right here. And you call it out. And then like, you just it like helps you remember. Yeah, it's so crazy. Why are you laughing? I'm laughing because your neighbors probably like, my neighbor's an idiot. I'm putting my key where it says keys. He's just like, keys by door, shoes by door. The neighbors like every morning, my neighbor just yelling out where he puts his keys in his shoes. And then the next minute, he's like, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Dude, it's so crazy. You hear him like yelling, it's so groovy. He's like, where did I put my keys? He yells back the door. No, but yeah, it's it's it's crazy. I'm gonna get this book. This sounds interesting. Yeah, the Shallows is called by Nick Carr, something like that. But Nicholas Carr, but it's a New York Times bestseller. And like, I normally don't read anything else except for the Bible or like my pastor's books. But I'm like, nah, man, there's something where I'm just like, I'll park somewhere and I'll forget. And I'm like, what the heck is wrong with me? Like, I'll park somewhere and I'll be like, I know it's here. And then I have to like, try to recall it. And it takes me a little while to be like, oh, yeah, I parked over here. I'll be like, I put my wallet down. And I'm like, where the hell is my my wallet, and I'm like, why am I doing this? This is crazy.

But then when it comes to scripture, I'm sharp. Boom, boom, boom, boom, I'll pull it up, and I'm like, oh, it's because I'm always thinking about scripture, and I keep recalling, like, what did Pastor Kim say today? Oh, he said this, this, versus like, I'm not going, where am I, where, okay, what did we do in the meeting today? Like, I don't do that. I'm literally like, okay, the meeting went on, cool, cool, like, information just kind of goes over my head, and I only focus on the gospel. So I'm trying to redirect everything, and reading is really good for your brain. It's super good, and I just stopped, like, I used to read a lot in prison. After that, I stopped, and I just read the Bible, and I was like, nah, I gotta also kind of read books and stuff like that, you know? It's certain things, too, like losing your car, that's like directionally or whatever, but you're also really good at remembering names. True, true. Which is a superpower. If you can remember people's names, it's such a superpower, and I'm on this, too. That, because I think, I'll be like, that guy, what did we talk about? Like, it's just taking that minute to just recall what happened that day, where I wasn't doing that.

I wasn't doing that, and I was like, why can't I remember what I said to this person? I thought I was going dumb or something, and then I realized it's because I'm not even putting my mind to it. Dude, the grueling thing is so interesting, because, like, there was this guy that I met at Muay Thai, and I met him twice, and I've asked for his name twice, and I knew it was, like, a unique name. So the third time, I was like, I'm not asking his name again, and I sat there, and I was like, he's about to come up to me, and I was like, he was, like, stretching on the other side, but I knew he was gonna come around to see if we wanted to spar. So I was like, I was just sitting there, like, what's his name, what's his name? And then just by sweating my brain for two minutes, I remembered it. It was crazy, and I was like, oh my gosh, I can't believe I remembered. You can pull it out if you, the grueling thing was, I didn't give up. I was just like, I have to remember, I have to remember. That's what I did, too. I was like, ah, and it's so, because you want to peak, and the way your brain is, like, trained, it's like dopamine, right? So if you don't get it right away,

it's not even that you can't get it, you just give up. Like, your brain is like, ah, and it, like, ends up being like a five-year-old, where they're just like, it's too hard, when it's not, and they just gotta keep trying. And when you keep trying, it literally will come to you. I'm like, dude, I'm sitting there, and I remembered Pastor's sermon completely from start to finish on Sunday. I sat there, I sat in the car before I drove off. I was like, I'm gonna just sit, and I'm gonna think, what did he say? And I was literally able to trace everything, and I felt proud. I was like, dude, that's so crazy. That's crazy. Until now, I'm, like, repeating it day and day, and I can preach that sermon verbatim. Hey, now you got no excuses. Well, I'm trying to. If you start forgetting things, I'm gonna be like, nope, if you remember Pastor Kim's sermon, you can remember what you have to do today. Yeah, I know. Nope, not the gospel. Nope, forgot. Literally, that's what it was. If it's not the gospel, I don't care.

That was bad, that was bad. The other thing that I'm trying to do is, I sent you guys this really crazy carousel about how our brains are getting disrupted by time because we're getting so much input, and you're just on your phone all day, and again, it's like your dependence on it. You don't have to remember where certain things are. You can just open something up and doom scroll whatever it is. You don't have to recall memories. You don't have to memorize phone numbers. You don't have to do any of those brain exercises, and that's affecting just our ability. Like, everything just feels fast, right? Just time just feels like it's blowing by, and so one of the things that I'm really trying to protect is not going on my phone an hour before bed, like just getting off my phone, and when I wake up, usually I grab it because I use my alarm, or I like to check my Aura Ring to see my sleep stats, but now I don't even check that, and I just use like a regular alarm, and it's kind of crazy. It's like when you start your morning off like that, you just feel way calmer. Yes, so true. And the minute, so today I only made it to 30 minutes. I tried to make an hour this morning. The minute I picked up my phone,

first I checked the Aura Ring, and I was like, cool, I got good sleep, and then I saw one text, and then I just was pulled into my day instantly. Dude, that's how it is. It's like a lot of people don't realize they're addicted to their phones. Like, it's just become a habit, and you're like, oh, it's nothing, because it's not like an actual addiction where it's like drugs, and it has like effects, and you're losing your teeth, and you know, it's like, it's just, but then really like, you start to lose your memory, so everybody who's listening, if you can't recall certain things, it's probably because your phone is, and Chachapiti is like thinking for you now, which, again, is not good, and it's like for, you know, I think you said, Jeremy, but it says the devil, there was a book that said like, the devil hates when a deep thinker, legit, like Pastor Kim has always been saying that. Like, Satan doesn't want you to be able to think deeply, because if you can think deeply, then you rationalize things, you kind of like pump the brakes on a lot of stuff, where if everything is impulse, it's very like feelings and emotion-driven, and all of us know, making decisions based off emotions always leads us to like net negative,

like despair, and like. Destruction. So yeah, I'm also kind of taking a step back and my deception was like, oh I got this I read the Bible, but it's like nah like in everyday life Satan will also try to like make you just overlook certain things and be like, oh, yeah All I got to rely on is Bible which is true, but you still have to live There's still things that you have to recall like if I don't focus on the meetings that we have Then people may feel like bro. He's not even listening like what the hell and it can close people's hearts So these little things I was like dang. I didn't even realize that that was happening So it's really cool and it makes me feel really happy Like I bought four books like why the hell would I buy books? It's like I normally don't for me. I thought like books were so like esoteric right? I'm like, no one reads books nowadays Why would you read books if you can just chat you pizza something and the synopsis is like right there and you're getting it Within like five minutes. Okay, this book talks about this like Jeremy read a book on Alex Hormozy I was like, bro I'm just gonna literally like chat you PT this and it told me everything about his book and I was like, yo This is crazy like the value and all this stuff But then again if you sit there it says like like you don't contemplate anymore You don't think deeply anymore if you don't read the books like because you have to sit there and it takes time you have to sit there and you go through these mental loops and like these kind of like grueling times to kind of muscle through things And then it opens that Neuroplasticity right in your brain you it you can grow and it can shrink and the book is saying basically like It's it's like a muscle essentially and if you don't work out your muscle or if you work it out very little It's just not gonna be at optimal like it's not gonna be strong. Also chat GPT is just cheating You're taking steroids for the muscle. It's like it's that's that unearned wisdom when you're When you're chatty PTing the summary to a book It's like you didn't have to go through the figuring out process of reading the book So you're really you can you can get the answer but you don't really know what it means or you can't really apply it The that's the biggest thing you can't apply it like even though you read the summary of the Alex Hormozy book What you didn't get out of the book is all the exercises He forces you to do and the struggle of forcing myself to do the exercises where the information stuck

Additionally now I can use chat GPT. So what I'll do sometimes even with this podcast There's this really good book called stop asking questions by Andrew Warner I think that's his name and that's where I really learned how to like ask a podcast questions or whatever in the beginning Now but now that I understand that book when I use chat GPT to come up with questions and I say apply this book I know if chat GPT did a good job or not I'll look at the questions. I'll back. No, like it's still not good But here's how here's how corrective versus just blindly being like well chat GPT applied the book and these questions seem good So it must be right, you know, I can give my own counter human thought so true. So bars All right. So now you're on your reading arc. Yeah Yeah, so I saw you you like green eggs and ham cat in the hat, what was the other one Oh hungry caterpillar Bro sit there with like glasses in the park trying to be all deep and it's like Like I found something really esoteric today opens up opens hop-on-pop. Yeah, what does this mean? Is this about Jesus? He's a ha ha Sir Kim's like to today Johnny That's good. The less doom scrolling more reading is probably good. Yeah. Yeah, it's crazy. It's gonna be like a lost It's gonna be like a lost art bro. Literally now that I think about it Do you think our app has been spoiling people and we should come out with a book? It's a physical We will have an annotated Bible which will make people have to read I think eventually we are gonna have daily devotionals on a book. Like I still think we have to keep that bro But yeah, but it's still reading like yeah in the app. It's still reading. You're not just doom scrolling videos But here's a doctor. Dr. Chang had professor. Here's the thing though What I love about our platform and our people is that we do main stages for like three hours and they're locked in from the from Beginning to end. I don't think that that's I think that's really good for their brain because then what I'll do is it's it's interactive I'll be like, okay guys, so let's think about and I won't give them the answer right away I'll be like like even today in the morning I was like who here believes they're there that their heart is evil and everyone's like, yeah Yeah, and then we're dissecting the word exegesis, right? Jeremiah 17 verse 9 and they're just like I believe my heart is evil I'm like you believe everything in the Bible and they're like, yeah I believe everything in the Bible and then we ran this little exercise and they're sitting there and they're like, dude

I didn't even realize like that's what I was thinking about myself Right and they come to that conclusion kind of on their own and it's so I think it's a little bit different But in terms of the app like eventually we will get like that to what we're getting to our app We'll be able to like we're gonna leave zoom Like I think we I see a version of our app where it's just like it's our own zoom But it's like our platform right our stream. Is it a streaming platform? Yeah, it'll be so, you know stuff like that, but Anyways, that's like V whatever but yeah I I think for now people are gonna do it because either way I know a lot of These people man, I don't know if it's in main stage or like even in in tik-tok like I'll see them Literally chat GPT. Yeah, good question. Are those chat GPT arguments? So they'll be like well first Sean says this and then like it has like whatever it is I'm not gonna tell we're not gonna tell anyone how we know it's it's it's so obvious But literally you'll look at it and it's like yeah, this dude used chat GPT I'm literally arguing chat GPT right now and people are just like dying. You'd be like, oh Ellie. I've got rejected King David got chosen. Like it's just recalling information Not like I understand. Okay, you get what I'm saying? Just because what this does guys it it makes your brain like move It's so it almost felt like my brain was stuck for a little bit I was like what and I was like muscling through it. It was crazy like I said, it was the same feeling of I Was addicted to something and then like I finally cut that addiction and it was like that feeling of like oh I gotta get through it and it felt like the cigarette, you know quitting cigarette quitting tobacco the first three days when I was quit It was horrible. I was like, alright, I quit cold turkey But like I'm still feeling for it after I would eat I would get that feeling like oh Like I wanna I need to go and smoke right now and I'm like, no wait, but I quit already So, oh, let me just muscle through it. And then later you don't even mean like after we eat I don't even sense it anymore. So it's kind of it's kind of crazy Well, I got one more thing that you need to recall. They had Xboxes Right because they shipped us out because the governor Arnold was like you guys got to leave out of here We're gonna make California life for prison So people who didn't have life or life without parole ended up getting shipped out. So we went to I went to Tallahatchie, Mississippi and 270 yards and I remember them giving us Xboxes and stuff like that, right and so This one black dude. He was old. Oh gee black. I think it was in his 50s And he was playing since like not Super Nintendo, but Nintendo Do you know there's a Nintendo and then there's like a stick? Yeah, like like OG like Atari style right and that was like that was when Street Fighter came out first time out there And so he's playing like Sega Genesis, he played all these things. Anyways, we get Street Fighter, and he's playing one of the Asian homies, which I ended up selling up with some Vietnamese dude from Orange County. And he was playing them, and then we're like, bro, this black dude's gonna lose, bro. Like, homie's Asian, he's good. Like, I was all stereotypical, you know? And then all of a sudden, the dude had glasses on. He's an old, again, old dude, patch of white hair. Bro was just whooping him, beating the hell out of him with Ryu. Just, oh, you can't, right, beating his ass. And then later, like, the dude was just like, yo, how'd you get so good, OG? Like, what the hell, man? And he's like, I may look stupid, but I ain't stupid. And he, like, pushes up his glasses.

Like, it's the, I may look stupid, but I ain't stupid. He puts it, I'm like, dang, y'all are so funny. So that's where I got it from. But yeah, that was crazy. Yeah, but one year. The podcast. One year, yes. Episode 52. There's some crazy statistic that, like, 92% of podcasts fail in the first year. Really? Most podcasts don't even make it to episode 30. Wow. We're on 52, right? Yup. And we have 133,000 subscribers, I checked today. Nice. So it's like, dang, we're doing good, man. God is good, man. And think about it this way. Everybody, because of the internet and how fast things move or whatever it is, think that your podcast is supposed to be huge right when you start. But Joe Rogan had an audience of basically zero for like five to seven years. People don't realize he just did it for five to seven years before podcasting became what it was. That's crazy. Yeah, so it's like a lot of people have these expectations that these things are supposed to happen overnight. But like, for the progress of what we've been able to do in one year is just bananas. Yeah, 52 episodes is crazy. And then not only that, it's like, we literally, I don't know,

when I think about podcasting, like, it didn't even feel like a year. I don't know about y'all, but it felt fast for me. Like, I was just like, dude, what the heck? Like, we're one year in. I remember setting up at our apartment in downtown LA. I remember like my dad building the set. I remember like just picking certain things and changing topics. And it was just wild, bro. It's crazy. It's been one full year. One full year. Yeah, and we're in a completely new, different spot. Yeah, that's such an upgrade, too. Like, man. Right. But no, it definitely does not feel like it at all. Like, we'll even forget episodes we did or something. We'll be like picking topics like, no, we've done that one. It's like, yeah, it all kind of flew by, honestly. And then the kid just goes, my mom passed away. Yeah, it happened to me. And I just went like stone cold. And then they're like, no, I'm just kidding. But don't say that. And I'm like, oh, my gosh. I like I cut it out of my book. Were you ready to like apologize? I was scared. Like, oh, my God. But it's crazy. Yeah. Let's bring it back. Yo mama. I like when they prank people in stores. A lot of you guys feel unqualified uh in front of god, and I think Me personally, I felt always unqualified. You know, i'm at this church. Think about it. There are people who are suited and booted never wore a suit ever uh in my life and they're just Very well studied they don't have tattoos They don't have a checkered past like I do a lot of these guys are pks, which is pastor's kids or preacher's kids And so i've always felt like I was out of place and not qualified and I remember pastors saying the reason why you're qualified is because

You're not qualified and I never understood what that actually meant and so What I learned and come to learn is that most people feel unqualified Unqualified Not because they're actually unqualified but because of expectation, right? And so they think That qualification is what qualifies them, but it's actually their expectation that disqualifies them And what I mean by that is me thinking that I have to be suited and booted super studied Cleaned up to then go in front of god and be a good person and live a christian good christian boy life That's what was actually disqualifying me and causing me the most issues right a lot of people will come to me all the time and they're like, I don't study as well as you, you know, I didn't go to seminary school, so I can't preach the gospel. Because of that, I'm still backsliding and I didn't clean myself up yet. I still have these, you know, inner demons that I deal with, you know, whether it's lust or, or it's pride or it's ego, you don't have to fix those things. God is like, come to me and I'll clean you come to me and I'll fix you come to me because I qualify you don't come to me when you're qualified, because when you're qualified, you're not gonna go you're not gonna go to God. The whole point of leaning on God and coming to God is because you're weak. You are not qualified, but thank God God qualifies unqualified. And so many people think that right, but they're built, they built this mindset, and it's usually just been kind of drip fed into them from from birth, from this society through individualism, through just church hurt, through parents through teachers through who the whole world, right, the systems in the world, tell you, you have to be the best. If you're not the best, you're the worst. If you don't have, you

know, an education, you're less than if you're anything that's not this checkbox, or this standard, you're less than. And so, yeah, the reason why you guys feel unqualified is because you're focused on your feelings, you're focused on your expectations. And that's kind of the root of a lot of things. It's not just qualification. It's like, even just feeling like you belong somewhere, right? If you feel like, dang, I'm not good enough, then it's usually because you have an expectation to be good enough that you're not meeting. And then you kind of just disqualify and like, like kind of almost have this negative self talk to then push you away from people and isolate. So how did you deal with it in the church? Right? If pastors like, oh, you're qualified, like God calls the unqualified, but then you look around. And, you know, there's people that are saving people preaching better than you. So how are you like, if you're in that environment, it's kind of hard to necessarily accept what he's saying, if you're constantly surrounded by people that are excelling and bringing people to God and nurturing people. Well, I started to understand why people were excelling was because their weakness was their qualification. So these people who excelled, just similar to how I'm excelling now, all came to the position of, I'm weak, I can't do anything. And it almost gives them this heart of like, I suck. So maybe I should start to really like think about it's like this acknowledgement heart. Once they acknowledge, dang, I'm not that good. That's how they were able to excel. So similar to how we were, I get famous, right? People think like, oh, bro, just started like two years ago. No, you don't see what

happened behind the scenes. It's been 10 years that I've been doing this, just quietly struggling, going up and down, living this roller coaster, sin, repent, you know, trying to deal with edification and qualification and all of these things. And then to later kind of muscle through it. That's what I was doing at my church was I was looking at pastors. And I'm like, Oh, yes, they've been here for a little while, but like, they don't seem to struggle right now. And so they're definitely more qualified. But again, it's an expectation, I expect to learn what what took them 10 years, some of them 20 years, 30 years to learn it in one year. And that's, again, the expectation that messed me up. So Pastor Kim was saying, the number one thing was all you have to do is live. As you live, you're going to grow. Everything is either a lesson or a blessing. He's like, but the issue is Johnny, the enemy is trying to move you into the position of a judge. And I couldn't understand that for like a year, I was like, what do you mean, be in the position of a judge? Because when you judge judge yourself, when you feel like your shame, and you judge your progress, then you become God. And he's like, just don't be God. And I'm like, I'm not trying to be God. What are you talking about? I'm just trying to be a good person. And he's like, but God is the only good. So in that case, you are trying to be God, in that you can't really do anything aside from him. He would talk about john 15. He would talk about I am the vine, you are the branches, he would say, without me, you can do nothing by yourself, right? He would say these things, and it would go one ear out the other, because I was still my own God. And I was still even judging the messages, until I came to the position that man, no matter how hard I try, I was

literally not able to overcome anything. That's when things started to unlock for me. That's when I stopped being self reliant. And then I started to be dependent on God, right? I say this all the time, if you're still trying to distrust your thoughts, if you still try to stop doing, you know, stop sinning, you're still trusting in yourself, and still relying on yourself to be like your own Savior, we call Jesus a Savior for a reason, because he has to save us. A person who's drowning cannot save himself. They need a lifeguard. In the same stroke, I was trying to qualify myself when that was never my responsibility. It was God's responsibility. And all I had to do was just accept that. But there was a part of me that was like, I cannot accept that. Because like what Jeremy was saying, but this guy's doing well, and this guy's doing better, and this guy's doing better. But again, I didn't know their backstory. I just saw them doing hella works. I saw them hella quoting scripture. I saw them more qualified than me. And pastor was teaching me, you got to stop trusting what you see, because you don't know anything. The issue here is you think you know everything. And based off of that scattered type of like judgment, you're thinking, Oh, yeah, I need to be better. And so a lot of you guys don't give up because you're not qualified. You give up because you forfeit because you feel like I'm not meeting this expectation. So it's just over for me. And I've seen so many people do that in church. Very thankful to God that I wasn't one of them, right? God was able to show me like, bro, it was never about you. You're just not good. You know, you're not good. And you're weak. And God qualifies the weak people. And so yeah. Yeah. And it's all about like, your perception of what being

qualified is like you would look around and you would see a bunch of in your mind qualified people. The pastor was saying like, No, you're qualified because of your background and things like that. It's like what are they they're qualified for like a decent loan on a good credit score. Like your perception of what qualification is, is really dependent on, you know, your outcome or your outlook. So right, that's really interesting. So I guess I have a question if, and this was one of my other questions, but it kind of ties in. So do you think that if all of your dreams would have came true at 18, whatever your dreams were at the time, and it's very different answer for you, just because of where you were at 18. But if all of your dreams would have come true at 18, do you think that it would have been your downfall? Do you think you would have even held out this far? I don't think I know. If I wanted everything to happen the way that it did, I'd be dead. I'd be dead. I, my dream was have a mountain of cocaine, like women in my penthouse, I would have died from something like straight up, I would I had no brakes, I was literally all gas. I would just go go go. I had no fear whatsoever, so much so that the guy who shot me, I knew he had a gun. And I was like, you're not gonna shoot me. And I socked him in the face. And he shot me like, literally, my I know myself, I know that there's nothing that I would have done that would have stopped me because nobody could tell me anything at that point. Just no one would be able to tell me anything. I wanted what I wanted. And I found my way to get it. However, like, even though I was poor, and I grew up in the projects, like, I always found a way to hustle to make money. Yeah, I was always, you know, Asians in general, the

stereotype is, like, we know how to get money. It's just we just know, like, we can't basically, you know, survive without it. So we understand that we're gonna scheme for it, we're gonna rob for it, we're gonna do it, we're gonna manipulate for it. And that's just what it was. And I was a cold individual where I didn't care if somebody was, you know, struggling, like, I have to, I have to re up. So I'm gonna go and I'm gonna do what I gotta do. And so I know, I know that, for sure, I would have been dead, for sure, I would have been dead, or I would have been fried, like, I would have did so many drugs, that, like, I was literally would be like a vegetable, which is dead anyways, right? So, yeah, I know 1000%, if I got what I wanted, I'm thank God that God didn't give me everything that I wanted. I would not be here because I just I don't know if it's an addictive personality, but it's an intense personality. Just like how I go hella hard for the gospel. I went the same energy with everything else, gangbanging, to everything like I just was there was no like 80% it was like 100% go on every single thing. And yeah, it was it was bad. It was bad. I bet. And it's so funny, because back then in your mind, that would that was probably your idea of what a qualified gangster would be or what a qualified person would be making all this money having all success. But as someone a little less qualified to preach the gospel, and now you look back after everything you've been through, you had to go to prison, you got punished, literally. And now it makes you the qualified person, which is crazy, the opposite of what you would have thought at the time facts. So like you were saying, yeah, God qualifies the unqualified, you'd probably just don't know you're thinking of the wrong qualified, you probably Yeah, yeah,

reception is off. Same. Yeah. Okay, so now if you're, if you're someone sitting out there listening to this, and they're like, Okay, I get what he's saying. I feel unqualified. There's a lot of things that I don't want to do in my life, because I don't feel like I'm up to par. What does what's the next step? What does that mean? So number one, you have to acknowledge that, okay, I'm not qualified, which is what you just said. But also, you have to because you're like that, move forward and understand that God is going to work because of that. So the only thing and the only reason why I say this, If you feel unqualified, number one, that is normal. We are born flawed. We don't have the answers to everything. Every single person in life is just trying to figure life out. So number one, imperfect, you're living that roller coaster, you're feeling empty. All of those things are indicators that you could never rely on yourself, okay? Now that you understand, the fact that you see that you're unqualified is actually clarity. A lot of people are still in the realm of thinking that they're qualified and they're doing things until their house of cards break down and collapse in front of them, right? All of us are gonna have that moment where we're like, dang,

the way that we think is probably not what was the right way and for the longest time I trusted myself. So step one, you've realized if you're out there, okay, I'm not qualified, I'm weak, I mess up. Step two, you have to start thinking about what the Bible says about that. God qualifies the unqualified. It's not just a banger, you know, thing you put on a shirt, a tattoo on your body. It's literally so true because look, Pastor Kim was talking about this last week. He spoke about 1 Samuel chapter 16. He spoke about Leviticus where in Leviticus there was like, you know, the Levitical laws and the sacrifices and there was 10 cows and the 10th cow, he blessed, right? And like, if you think about it, you know, the first cow was like, usually when you go and you pick animals, the first stock and what you pick first is usually like the strongest stock but towards the end, like people are like kind of auctioning off these cows or like, hmm, this isn't good, but God is like, I still choose that one. All these blemishes, weak, smaller in weight, whatever, God chooses it. In 1 Samuel, he said the same thing. Samuel, who is a prophet of God, sat there and he was like, I choose Eliab. Eliab was tall, bro had probably a chiseled jawline,

Dorito body, bro was like strong basically, right? And so all these people were like, even so, Jesse, which was his father and also David's father and Nathan, I'm sorry, Samuel, who was a prophet said, God, this is the next man in line. Like you gotta choose Eliab, Eliab is qualified. And in 1 Samuel 16, verse seven, he says, don't look to his countenance, don't look to his stature, I have rejected him. He's like, man looks on the outside appearance, God looks at the heart. So he starts going through all of these people, right? And it's like 10 people. And then he's like, who do you have left? And the last person was King David. Now King David had no countenance, meaning he was little scrawny, he tended the sheep, he was always dirty, he was always outside playing with the sheep. He wasn't a warrior, he was more like a farmer, right? And so they bring him in, Jesse brings him in, Samuel is like, whatever, right? And then God goes, that's the guy that I choose. And so why I say all of this, right, is because pastor was explaining, you guys may think that you guys aren't qualified, but that's exactly why you're qualified, is because you have the clarity to go, I can't lean on myself ever again. And that's why God becomes my anchor,

God becomes my stronghold. And so that's the next thing you have to do is just realize, wow, the fact that I resonate with what they're saying here, number one is a good thing because people don't even probably understand what I'm saying, who don't have that heart posture. So that's a very good heart posture. Number two, move forward. Okay, God has chose me, that's different. When you move with the heart of like, oh, I need to qualify myself in front of God, then you live this up and down kind of vicious cycle of like shaming yourself, then trying harder again, and then falling into shame again, and then picking yourself back up only to shame yourself harder. It's like this vicious cycle. But when you start to move with, dang, I know that I'm not qualified, but God qualifies the unqualified as per Romans 4.5, as per Romans 11.32, 1 Samuel 16, as I'm speaking, then you start to have this heart of going, dang, God is going to help me, you start to move. So me too, when these words came to my heart years ago, I was like, bro, I'm not qualified. However, God is gonna use people like me because when you look at everything in the Bible, from Cain and Abel, Cain was strong, Abel was weak. He used Abel, he chose Abel's sacrifice. When you look at, you know, Jacob and Esau,

Esau was a hunter, could cook venison, his father loved him, but Jacob gets the blessing, the weaker mama's boy. When you look at Moses, Moses has a slowing tongue, can't speak well, you know, is old as heck. God goes, I'm gonna use you to lead people out. When you look at Paul, who used to be Saul and was, you know, carrying the coats and like, you know, stoning people to death with the Sanhedrin, God was like, I'm gonna choose that person. So you're in perfect hands if you're struggling. going, that's what qualifies you for grace. So does that mean Aaron's going to get a bigger blessing than me? A hundred percent. Aaron already got a bigger blessing than you, but genuinely though, genuinely, right. You guys understand what I'm saying, right? Like it's so it's so somewhere along the line, society has told us you need to be strong when it was never about that. Like I said, your weakness is what qualifies you for help. If you got everything you wanted and everything went to plan, you would be God. You wouldn't need God. You would be perfect. You'd be strong. You would muscle through the seasons and the weather and the hard times, and you would lift yourself out of it and you would have something to boast about. But God already says, I don't want anybody to boast and only boast in me. For Christ is yours, right? We only boast because of Jesus. So if you guys are struggling and you feel like, let's say, practically speaking a

job, Oh man, you know, I, I applied for a hundred jobs, man, what's going on? But you applied with the heart of what? Like I can do it. Understand what I'm saying? Now try with the different heart that you have, which goes, you know what? Whether or not I can do it, I realized that I can't, and you know what? God, he's going to bless me in all of these things. Every single time people have taken that, right. And, and commented later, if you guys see this, they have a testimony, they go, you know what, Johnny, I heard that and I received that and I'm going to move forward. And when they move forward by faith, genuinely with the right heart posture, true biblical heart posture, God has to bless it because you're forcing his hand. Right. Pastor Kim told me when you move forward, Johnny, understand who you are. He gave the analogy of Donald Trump. Um, even back then he was saying like, like, you know, um, he gave this recently, but he, he gave me an analogy back then where he's like, I think at that time, I don't know if it was Bush or somebody who was a president and he goes, imagine the president's president's son. He's like, he moves however he wants because he knows he has CIA with him, FBI with him. He's protected. Right. But Johnny, who do you think you are? You're not just Johnny Chang. You're this precious son of God. You're, you don't have CIA protecting. You have angels protecting. You have God protecting you. So when you move forward, move boldly, right?

Like no one can touch you. No one can stop you. And legit that gave me like wings to be like, wow, that's so true. And everywhere I went, I was like, I'm the precious son of God. God is going to bless me. Not because I'm good, but because he's good. And these things started to work. Things started to topple. I stopped being so scared and going, Oh, I'll go here only when I'm prepared and qualified. No, I would go even when I wasn't qualified, recognizing that that's the reason why I'm qualified because I'm not qualified. God has to help me and I'm going to witness him work. And that's what it is. Clippy time. So if someone, um, if someone truly believes they're now qualified by God, right, not by themselves, what changes would show up in their life in the first 30 days? Would you say? Hmm. That's difficult to say, but the number one thing is you should feel lighter. You should recognize like clarity, right? In the first, if you hear this, you should be like, wow, okay. It makes sense. That's number one. So hope and clarity should enter within the first 30 days. I would challenge, I would argue as soon as you hear it, it should enter. Right. And it's not a feeling basing. It's, it almost, it's, it's like a, um, how do I say?

It's kind of like a clear, a mental clarity and a soft, a light, like a lightness, right? Number one. Uh, number two, you start to realize that you're being more bold. You'll start doing things that you normally wouldn't do. Like you would, like, if it was, if it was hard for you to apply for jobs or doctor up your resume, you'll start doctoring up your resume. You'll do the things that you normally wouldn't do. Right. Like I was, I hated reading the Bible every single time I would crack open the Bible. Number one, I felt unqualified. I felt like an imposter syndrome. Cause I was like, bro, you don't even read, you don't even care about the Bible. And the last time you read the Bible, you gotta be careful, right? You were reading it to like fight. You were trying to find angles because you're Muslim when you're in prison to find angles to like, like hurt people who are Christian to win and debate them. Right. And so I felt like this kind of inner guilt, but what changed for me was I just started cracking open the Bible and I just started going, dang, this makes sense. Like, wow, I'm reading more. And then you start to just kind of almost surprise yourself. Like, whoa, I'm moving boldly. And right there, you start to have this type of heart where it's like, it's not me. Whereas before you're like, wow, see, I was obedient. I'm doing this. You don't, you don't, you don't tie anything. That's the third thing that happens.

You don't tie any of the things back to yourself anymore. You genuinely, and you don't just say it with your mouth. You genuinely in your heart are clear. Like I would never do this. I would never go to the prisons, I would never crack open the Bible on my free time just sitting here reading when I could go and I could play games and I could go do what I want, go work out, whatever. No, I'm sitting here cracking open the Bible and sitting at church and I remember just looking around having like an outer body experience going, why the hell am I reading the Bible? And I read the Bible for 37 minutes, like what the hell is wrong with me? And I, you start to do things that you don't, it's like not even you, it's like the Holy Spirit doing these things through you. And so you'll notice a lot of this type of stuff within the 30 days, within the 30 days. Go to our Discord, go to our, you know, just come to our congregation. How many people who are even 16, 17 year olds who finished the Bible two or three times? Ella's finished the Bible one time, you know, two times already, right? It's like they're literally kids, but they're finishing the Bible because they're learning these type of lessons going, oh my gosh, like you're right, you know, there are people who are rereading the Bible, not reading in NIV, NLT, ESV, KJV, the hardest version, these thous, arts, yeas, all that old English stuff. And they're, they're whipping through it and they're loving it. And they're like, dang, it's almost like they're in a trance. They go through it and it's like 40 chapters later. They're like, oh my gosh. So you'll start to notice these little things that happen in your life. We're hiring guys. Core of the Heart is hiring, but listen carefully. Okay, so first and foremost, grace is something you don't deserve and you receive. Why do you need grace? Because we don't deserve things and yet we still have to receive things, right? So for example, we never asked Jesus to come and die for our sins. He died 2,000 years ago, right? We ask him into our lives, but really what you're supposed to be asking for is you to believe in those things, to believe that he died for you, resurrected for you, lives for you, all of that.

And so grace is essentially you didn't do something, but you received all of the blessings from somebody who did something in your place. And so why do we need grace? Because when it comes to qualification, if you were to just qualify yourself, it wouldn't be grace. It would be transaction, right? It says in the Bible, to him who worketh, it is not reckoned to him as grace, but as debt. So what this means is if you sit there and I'm like, okay, I'm going to sit there and I'm going to, you know, work 30 hours a week and I expect my pay to be, I don't know, 1,500. Okay, you're going to put in 30 hours and you're going to get $1,500. You don't need grace for that. That's a transactional thing. That's you working for something and there's a debt that needs to be owed and paid, which is your salary, right? Grace is even if I don't work, you're still going to give me $1,500, right? And so it's not that you deserve it. In fact, you don't deserve it, but then God gives it to you either way. Why do we need that? Because that's what the gospel is. If I was to work, let's say, with the same analogy to get to heaven, any of us here, if it was dependent on our works to get to heaven, our obedience to get to heaven, us, you know, managing our behavior and not being able to get to, not being able to sin, let's say, none of us are going to heaven because we all fall short of the glory of God. We all mess up. Atheists, Muslims, Hindu, believers, we all can agree on one thing. Universally, we are flawed as human beings. Nobody's perfect. And what God needs because he's perfect is perfection. You can't live up to that standard, but because you couldn't live up to that standard. God knew that, He knew you weren't qualified, and in Romans 4-5, He says,

but not to the person who works, but the person who believes and the one who justifies the ungodly, to him it is credited as righteousness. So you are righteous because you believe. You understand that you don't deserve this, but God gave you everything. And why grace is so beautiful is because if you recognize that you don't deserve anything, then everything becomes thankful. Like, if I feel like I'm a scumbag, right? Like, anything else that I get outside of that is, I'm going to be thankful. P-Dawg, you guys remember P-Dawg from Polenski Unit? There's a black dude on the side who had this stay of execution. There was a Hispanic dude, bigger dude, and then P-Dawg, right? He said this. He was like, bro, they're racist here, to be honest. He's like, it's the South, you know, they say certain things to us. He's like, but I feel like, because he's like, you know, he was in there obviously on death row, so they were going to execute him. He had a stay of execution just three days before we came, right? It was crazy, miracle. But he sat there and he said something that really touched me. He said, I feel like I went through all of this in my life, all the negative things, all the evil things, to end up here to hear this message. He's like, my home is not here, my home is in heaven, right? And I was like, crying, legit, like, that was heavy. I was like, how, like, you know, there's a couple of times where Jesus goes, how great is their faith? Like, their faith makes Jesus, who knows everything, go, what great faith is this? I felt that. I was like, bro is, again, death row unit, had a date, stay of execution, and then goes, you know what, I needed to go through this to listen to this message. He goes, I'm righteous, I'm perfected. He's like, can I shake your hand?

Shakes my hand and he goes, I'll see you in heaven. Like, bro was that confident to, like, see that. And what I realized was, because he saw that he was not qualified, he realized, I'm wicked, and even if they drop, you know, discriminatory and derogatory terms, like, I'm worse than what they're calling me. And he was able to then sit there and go, I understand what your message is. He heard it so clearly. Like, he was flipping through the Bible, he was just sitting there. I believe he was a preacher's kid too. Like, his dad was a pastor and he's like, I ain't never heard it this way before. You're right, we're not sinners, we're righteous, we're perfected, we're holy. This is a man on death row. Like, how can someone say something like that? It's because he realized, I'm not going to trust my thoughts. You're right, I'm going to trust the word of God above my feelings and my thoughts. And he was able to accept this. And so, why I'm bringing this up is because he received grace inside of his heart. He knew exactly that it wasn't anything he would ever do to get to heaven because he's already done. So, what does he need? Grace. He doesn't need qualification anymore. His qualification is grace. And he started to cling on to that so heavily. And that's the thing that even in my congregation, no disrespect, I have not seen a heart like that. This is a man I've never met on Polonsky unit, but he knew quite deeply who he really was, an evil human being. To then make that impression on me, I was like, bro, this is wild.

And I understand it because I went through that. I felt like, you know what? There's some things that I could never talk about. Things that I've done that I could never, I knew I was going to burn in hell for, 100%, 1,000%. And yet, when I heard the word, Hebrews 10, 14, I clinged on to that because I'm like, whoa, I can go to heaven? No way. No, not a person like me because I knew I was so unqualified. So many people, there's a lot of lip service. I'm noticing a lot of people go, man, I'm so evil. I'm so wicked. But let you talk about them, though. Let you say something about them. They're going to be like, what? And they're going to get angry, right? Whereas, P-Dawg was like, I'm wicked. You can say whatever you want to me because I'm probably worse than that. That's a person who really understands who they really are as a human being, wicked and evil and deserve death. He had a date. Like, they were going to execute him three days before. It means he came to the position of just, when you stand in front of death, guys, there's nothing that matters. It don't matter how much rent and debt you have left. All that matters is, damn, am I going to be able to go to heaven or not? That's why death is so humbling in so many ways, right? I used to think I was the ish. I thought I was gangster. I wasn't scared of anything.

And then I got shot by a 45. And the first thing I thought about was, oh my gosh, I'm going to die. And I started to legit have a panic attack right there and be like, I'm not ready. I'm only 16 years old. Like, I got blasted. Like, oh, am I going to? And I started to literally feel, right? And the first thing I started to do, when they say your life flashes, before your eyes, that's a real thing. Like you start, I started to think about when I went and got baptized in a Catholic church when I was a kid and like went with my friend cause they had a little camp thing and I went with him and I got baptized there and I was like, what the heck is this? Like, this is kind of scary. Like I just, and I don't know why, like through my brain I was playing all these like, like it was, it was only within like a minute but I was remembering all these intricate details of certain things that happened in my, in my life from my dad giving me a hug to like all kinds of stuff. And I realized that God allows that to happen so that when you plant the seed, when people are about to die, that's why the gospel never returns void. I believe people will sit there and think about those things like why did I, out of all things, think about being baptized at a church when I got shot?

You know what I'm saying? Like there's a reasoning behind these things. And so when people say, and it's multiple people, when they have the NDEs, near death experiences, they'll sit there and be like, bro, my life flashed before me and that's why it's so pivotal for us to preach the gospel cause they may not expect it right then and there and they may not accept it right then and there. But I guarantee you that God is gonna allow them to extract that seed, which is the word of God, for when you preach to them. You know, I knew another person too, who was like, man, bro, like I was dying and I thought about you and I'm like, what? And I thought about when you said Jesus made us righteous and perfect. And I'm like, bro, that's crazy. Again, a Buddhist guy going against me was like, bro, I don't believe in God, was able to then think about those things when he almost, cause he got shanked like 30 times, he almost died. And he was like, bro, I remember you saying that. And so I'm just like, bro, if you preach the gospel guys, I believe God will work. He just will, you know? So, yeah. It's so crazy. I always remember like your description of how you said you felt when you got shot for some reason. However, you said it just really stuck with me

when you said it felt like getting tackled or like you were on the top of the world, nothing could stop you, completely invincible and then instantly on the ground, like, oh my God, felt like you got hit by a bus. Like, I actually just got shot. This actually just happened. It was like your lock-in moment of like, this is real. I don't know why that's like, now I'll see something horrible, like on Instagram, sometimes you'll see someone get shot or something. And I'll just think of like you telling that story. I'd be like, that's what they're feeling right now. That this could never happen, but then it did. I have a super random question. You don't have to take too long to answer it, but wait. So he really thought that, you think that he thought he deserved to die? Like he thought, do you know what he did, any chance? He said he killed people that like, was like on some serial killer stuff, I think. And he was just at the point where he knew he deserved that? Yeah, I mean, he just was a calm spirit. He's a big dude, but it was just calm, was like, yeah, man, you know, like, I deserve to be back here. That's just what I remember him saying. And he's just like, just the way you put it, man, I've never heard it preached like that. And I know that I deserve X, Y, and Z.

And I'm just like, and he'd obviously, as inmates, you guys don't go into detail. We know this, right? We don't go into details about certain things, but he was just basically like, yeah, I basically deserve to be here and I killed people. That's all he said. And I was like, got it. But he just gave those vibes of like, you know what I mean? He's done some crazy stuff and yet he was just calm. And he was like, I genuinely never have heard this message. I think I had to go through all of this for then God to lead me here. Like, he pieced that puzzle together. Like, I normally am doing that with people. Like, you know, God did this so you could, and they're like, mm, he was like unlocking it himself. And I was like, shocked. I was literally like, yo, this is amazing. And this is what happens when somebody sits there and goes, I'm really this. Now, for the viewers, because I already know, they're gonna go, well, I'd never had to unlock like that. So does that mean I'm not safe? No, that's not what it means. That's not what I'm saying. Not every one of us has to come to God exactly that same way. But what I'm saying is,

you have to at least come to the position to realize that I'm unqualified. It's normal that I'm unqualified because I was never supposed to qualify myself. And through that, God can be my qualification. And that's basically what this guy went through. He tried to qualify himself. He ruined himself. He thought, okay, I can't qualify myself. I'm no longer qualified. And then when the word that qualified him, which was the gospel, came, he was like, oh, that's what it was. That's in that order. You have to go through that. We all come out trying to qualify ourselves because individualism is rampant in this world, right? And trusting in yourself and self-reliance and self-dependency is rampant in this world. And then when you walk that path, it gets ugly and then you fail. During the failure part is where clarity has to come. It's very fragile, but it's pivotal as well that can someone come and drop that seed? And when they drop that seed, are you prideful and react to it and go? No, I still can try harder which a lot of people do and they flick that seed away They're like those four soils in the in the ground or they're like brother p-dog who's like bro Wow, that was me bro is literally reading me like a book right now and bro is literally explaining it to me And he said it too. He's like, you know, I would have never listened to anybody else who was a preacher

He's like you you you look like us you've been through it Like how am I gonna tell somebody you know? like I think it was Jake Bodine who was saying like the worst thing that he sees is when people go in there and they're Like yeah, I understand you inmates, you know, like I I lost a girl when I when I was in high school, you know and they're like What the heck or they'll say something crazy like You know, we're all criminals. I just didn't get caught. You know, yeah, you remember that? He said that classic line. I've been to a few prisons with you and I've heard that now it's like it's crazy in that moment You were qualified. Yeah compared to some of these people exactly the gospel but what's what's crazy is I didn't think I was Like I thought if you were to tell me while I'm sitting in YA while I'm sitting in CDC I'm thinking you know God's like I'm gonna use I'm qualifying you I'd be like what you're you're putting me in the most Unqualified place with the most unqualified people in the world and you're gonna tell me I'm qualified What the faith is going on right now, right? I would trip but now that I understand it It's like yo, that's so true. It's so true. That's so funny. You're in like a like a horrible prison riot fight You're like God not like this Qualify me any other way No, you're getting qualified tonight Johnny Okay, so let me let me play it out in a scenario. You're like, okay God, I'm unqualified. I don't have a job I still gotta apply to resumes, right? I still gotta like apply to jobs and yeah, I probably I don't have any skill set So I got to like do some work to like learn these skill sets to do better in these job interviews And prove to someone that I deserve to work for them. Yes, right So you start to do all this work to improve yourself, right? Yeah, similar to how you're like, oh my brain is mush I got to read books, right? How much of that then is? You suddenly doing all this work to you know Get a job because you need to put food on your table and pay your rent versus allowing God to quote-unquote fix it Yeah, you can still do all the work and still allow God to also Guide the outcomes, right? I'm not saying at all guys that you shouldn't plan

It says in Luke what person when you're trying to build a house doesn't sit down and plan and write out blueprints basically So you're supposed to do those things, right? Because if I'm reading these books like that would be works where I shouldn't be reading the books I should be reading only the Bible. No, that's legalism at the end of the day, right? God will use any type of outlet. The whole point is heart posture. It's not having an expectation It's going instead of before where you would apply for jobs and it would be like, yeah God, you're gonna help me Yeah, I'm gonna apply that's still an expectation. It should be God. I know you're gonna help me I don't know how you're gonna do it I don't know if it's gonna be through these jobs, but I know one thing you're gonna help me because I'm not qualified And so if it's these jobs Give me the heart to also Accept that it's from you If it's not through these jobs, give me the heart to say hallelujah. I just want to clear up like a definition so like when you're saying like God qualifies the unqualified is that like Qualifies you to get into heaven qualifies you to preach the gospel all of that all of that because it's like when you're saying Oh, am I qualified for this job? It's like I just want to I just want people to have the distinction It's like, you know, like heaven ain't a job application. Like yeah, you can't do anything to quality You're like, oh, I'm gonna prepare for this job. The whole point is you can't God is going to qualify you You can't qualify yourself for heaven. So the job thing it just it is a good example, but it's a different parallel It's like you can let God just like help you but you still have to go get qualified for that job It's not how you can get qualified into heaven. It's a jobs are very workspace Well what I mean though is like the other might be like how do I know if it's truly God's calling for me in my Life and usually work is tied into that because it's like yes, that's how I got to put survive in this So you so you won't know that's what I'm saying. That's the whole point the journey is something that you have to walk through and God will work through it. That's why you guys should never worry about qualifications. They lean on God so much that they're like, I'm not going to get a job, I'm not going to plan anything, I'm not going to do anything. That's also wrong, brothers and sisters. Let me explain why. You still have to live, you still have family that you have to provide for. There are things that you have to do as a human being, as a man, as a woman, to be able to meet the grace of God, right? A lot of people don't realize, and I went through this phase early on, where I just wanted to do nothing but preach the gospel, which seems good in itself, but I didn't do anything. Pastor Kim was like, get a job. At first he said, don't get a job, and then all of a sudden he saw that part of me, he's like, get a job. And I was like, no, I got to preach the gospel. And it was actually because I was calloused. I didn't want to feel rejected about getting a job. I did not want to feel like, dang, I got to work, bro. I'd rather just make money doing this, right? But during that time, I had to get a job. Why did he first tell you not to get a job? Because that also would have messed with me. He just told me not to get a job, and look at me working so hard for the church and scrubbing toilets. Because it changed me, right? So in the beginning, he wanted me to learn how to maintain a job, and by doing that was kind of building these little skills for me, right? Not going to work there, but learning how to communicate with people, doing the hard stuff, the grunt

work, doing the things that you don't want to do, learning the discipline. And then finally, when I learned it, he's like, you're ready. And I was like, I don't want it, because now I've gotten comfortable. Now I'm just good here, and I'm good with the ego stroking and the patting on the head, going, wow, you're reading the Bible, and it feels good. And so I would find ways, like I literally remember Googling, and I'm like, how to make money like serving the gospel? And people were like, you can be a chaplain, and you can do it. And I was like, oh, I'll go get my chaplain. And I went and got my chaplaincy, and I realized all of their stuff is volunteer work. You don't get paid. And I was like, damn it! And Pastor Kim's gangster, he's like, you want to be a chaplain, right? God gave you that, go be a chaplain. Go do it. But the truth is, no, you got to get some money. And he's like, you got to start paying rent, because I was living at church for a little bit. He's like, you got to start paying rent. I was like, paying rent? For what, a cot? Yeah, it's literally cottage, like I'm just laying on this little thing, dude, I'll just buy my own cot. But he's like, no, you got to start paying rent. And you have to really start depending on God, because he saw, he saw that all I wanted to do was hide behind the gospel and not work. And so, you know, through that, I was able to, I worked at a sushi restaurant for a little bit, right? He's like, I'll have one of the brothers hook you up, go and work. They fired him because he ate all the food. Yeah, all the unis. They're like, I ordered a whole pack of unis. I'm like, I don't know what happened. But genuinely though, like, I started to work at a sushi restaurant with one of the brothers. And I started to learn how it was to be hustling, bustling. And I started to hate because the manager there was hella mean to me. And I had to learn the skills of like being told what to do by worldly people. And I started to see, like, after having these, this restaurant and these businesses to be like, dang, I really like I'm far behind. And and through that I would I would, I would it motivated me to grow. Like a lot of my growth came from because I had no skills, guys, I came out and I had no skills whatsoever. Well, I didn't know what to do. I everything I ever did was manipulative and scheming. That was the only thing that I was extremely good at, right. And at the same time, it's like, what is that going to do for me. And so I learned that if you're working a little bit to gain a lot, you're a scam artist. And I realized that was my mindset. I wanted to work very little, I would

find days of like, oh, put me in this section because this section only has tables and it doesn't have big old like it doesn't you know, a lot of people coming in and I would and I had to like learn like, dang, I can't be doing this type of stuff. Like I had to learn how to work with team with the team, with people who I didn't agree with, with people who thought they were all that with people who were weak and had to carry them. All these things I was learning. And I was like, man, this is what Pastor Kim wanted to tell me. But he couldn't like, explain it to me. Because how do you explain that to somebody, you just gotta jump in and be like, yo, I'm learning this, I'm learning that. I remember my feet like hurting, cuz I'm ripping and running, and like forgetting orders and getting yelled at, and then fighting with people and being like, yo, do this, and then managing certain people, and guiding people, and being a head server, and all this stuff. And I'm just like, dang, all this propelled me into really thinking about how to run a team, how to help people. It grew me in ways that I never thought it would. And so that's why he was saying that. And guys, you can learn a lot, like God's system is still going to work. God, everybody in the Bible never just sat around and did nothing. People made tents, people were physicians, people were tax collectors. Everybody has to do something, like you gotta do something, cuz you still gotta pay rent, and you still gotta do those things. But through that, you have to serve God, and part of that is development. When you develop yourself to be a good tool for God, it's such a beautiful thing. A small detail, did you say you were the top server? Yeah. Dang. Yeah, I was dishing them things, bro. Employ the month out, love. Yeah. Yeah, I was sprinkling a little bit of crack on the soup.

Like, Johnny, the food you're bringing is addictive. Yeah, they're like, so good. Sorry, guys, I'm just kidding. Is there any part of your personal belief that thinks that God prefers the more disciplined version of you than the weaker version of you, if you're with the right posture, or the more sober version of you versus the addict version of you? I would argue, as crazy as this is, because it's biblical, I think God prefers the most broken, unethical, wicked, undisciplined, selfish version of you, cuz that's the version he died for. Dang. Literally, that's the version he died for. He wasn't like, I'm gonna wait for Jeremy Kim to be amazing and then die for him. He died 2,000 years ago knowing all the hairs on our head and the sins in our body. He knew. He knew, I know Johnny's gonna be like that, and that's why I died for him. And so for me, I'm very thankful to God. Again, it comes down to expectation. We have this expectation to be the best, and that's what distances us from God. Because when you don't meet that standard, you're not gonna go to God, right? We do this with friends. Dang, I said I was gonna do that for him. Slowly, you start to avoid their calls and avoid, distance yourself in terms of proximity. Because you're just like, I don't feel good, I feel like a fraud, you know? And you just isolate, in the same way we do that with God. When we sit there and we wanna be the best versions of ourselves, and we want to show how great we are, and we can't live up to that standard, we naturally start to punish ourselves.

We start to isolate ourselves and distance ourselves. And so for me, I've learned, don't run from God during those times, run to God. Lord, I'm wicked, and you knew. It's that I don't know. Nine times out of ten, guys, it's not you guys. It's not God who's saying you suck. He knew, and he died for you still, forsook his son still. And it's just you don't know that. You don't remember that, or you forget. I would say most people don't, it's not that they don't know, they forget. They forget the goodness of God. And that's why God, every single day, has to remind us and tells us, renew your mind. What does that mean? It doesn't mean just to be obedient. It's to be like, think about my heart. Think about me, what I did for you. And I chose you, even though you were all broken. I knew you were, nothing surprises God. He knew what we were going to do. He knows what we're going to continue to do. And yet, he doesn't count it against us. Why? Because he died for us. He knew that we were going to be disobedient. It says in Romans 11, 32, he justified everybody while they were ungodly, and he concluded all of us into unbelief, which is disobedience, so he can show mercy. The fact that you're the way that you are, and broken in that way, you need mercy, because you'll never get to heaven, right? Trying to undo all those things.

You've already committed those crimes, committed those sins, some of these things you can't take back. And God's like, I wanted to give him mercy. So, yeah. Okay, so my question is, why should I try to be good when it feels like evil's winning? And so, what I feel like in the world right now, and I'm not trying to get political, is there are certain things that just feel like evil is winning. It's just social media, highlighting the best version of your looks, maxing, gambling, you know, it's everybody just showing off their perfect relationship, and I don't have a perfect relationship. That's one area. The other side is, literally, The people that run our government are the most evil people in the world. They're that destroy the lives of women and children, and none of them are going to go to prison for that. It genuinely feels like, and then there's wars, right? And it's all these, just hatred left and right on the internet. It's just for everything. It's the way you look, your beliefs, doesn't matter. So in that situation, I can see why a lot of people feel like, what's the point? So what do you say to that person? It's like, why should I even try if there's no point, right? Because the end matters, right? If you know the Bible, all these things are normal. It's just people don't know the Bible. If you read the Bible, you will see the condition of the human heart. It is literally a mirror to your heart. So it talks about two things, Jesus, the Messiah, who has to come and cleanse us. But why does he have to cleanse us if we're clean? He cleanses the dirty, evil people. So us being dirty and evil should not shock us, just like it doesn't shock God. Think about it. He could snap his fingers and stop all of this. Why doesn't he? A lot of people ask that question to me. You know what, Johnny, why won't he just stop those types of things? Because God honors choice. At the end, right? If he loves you, he's going to love you enough to let you walk away and choose your route, right? And so, of course, people are going to suffer through this. But for me, for example, I think California Youth Authority was the worst thing. It was literally hell on earth for children, kids, adolescents. You had to be admitted into it. You have a psych evaluation. They put you at SRCC or NRCC, wherever it is,

and they will evaluate you. And you're called a juvenile ward, just like a mental ward, you're called a juvenile ward. So I would think, why would God allow that? But you know what's beautiful? Through places like that, I received the testimony to then be able to be the light of the world to help other people. If that didn't happen, and that wasn't available, I don't know where my life would be. I don't know if I could relate to millions and millions of other people, because that's the one thing that I think I have, is I'm able to relate to any type of person, because everybody has been through some type of form of prison. Maybe not a physical one, definitely an emotional one, definitely a mental one, definitely a spiritual one, right? And so it comes down to, there is an end. It just doesn't look like it. And that's what the devil has done really well with, is to make people go, you're winning right now, so that means you've won. That's not true. That's not true. You can see this in everyday life. There's basketball games. Do you guys remember when, like was it Cleveland? They played against Golden State, and they came back like from a 3-0? Yeah, yeah, yeah, 1-3 or something. Yeah, some crazy stuff, right? Statistically impossible. Impossible, and LeBron and them did that, right? In the same way, that's kind of how it is too. You know, God is triumphant. What does that mean? He has to make it seem like people are winning to then triumph over it, because if he just boobops people up and smacks them up, it's like, it's too easy for him. So he's going to go, I'm going to let you handle the middle. Right now, we're in the middle. God says, I am alpha omega, beginning and end. He doesn't go, I'm beginning, middle, and end. He allows certain things for Satan to do his job. Again, guys, Satan is not, he's an exposer. He exposes what people rely on. So all these PDF files and whatever, they rely on themselves. These government, whatever people who are evil, they rely on their own thing. He's just allowing him to do his job to go, hey, you're like a spotlight. You're going to highlight what people believe in and what their heart posture is. They're only winning because that's a short-term thing. There is eternity, whether people believe it or not. People don't just go to the fertilizer pit. They don't just be like, oh yeah, you know, everyone's just going to end up dead and like worm food. And it's like, that's not necessarily true. Because if that's the case, then why would anyone live by morals, moral code and ethics and stuff like that? Why? If nothing matters afterwards, why even be a good person? Why do we have this inherent nature to want to be good? Why don't we just go out and do whatever we want? It's very rare that people are actually doing that. That's

why they say the elite people are doing it. But more importantly than anything, you know, you be good because your father is good. You realize none of this changes the fact that God is good and that takes faith. All this is a battleground, literally, for faith. We don't struggle with flesh, it says. We struggle with principalities and powers in high places. Principles, essentially. That's the issue, they have their principles and because they're like that, it's not gonna shape our principle. We're gonna move forward and love on God and we're gonna trust in God and that's why we do good. Like, it's much easier to be evil. It's much, trust me, I've walked both sides of the fence. It's much easier to do whatever you wanna do. It's way harder, but the reward is so much better. When I see people change, when we go to places like El Paso, when we go and we partner with other churches like Victory Outreach, when I start to see people change, it's such a flex to be like, dang, all this darkness and people are able to actually change their hearts and grow and not be, when it's so much easier to just be negative, to then sit there and change and then see their whole family's lives transform on top of that. Their kids, their wives, their spouses, all these people. It's so, so amazing. So, I mean, you technically have free will. You can do whatever you want with it, right?

But for me, what I've, they say in the Bible, right? For us, we will serve the Lord, right? It's just how it is, guys. And serving God is so important because when you serve God, he serves you. Like, genuinely, our lives are blessed. Like, I could never obtain this level of blessing that I have right now. If I died today, I'd be happy, genuinely, because I'm able, whatever the amount money that we made, none of that actually matters. But I know that I could never obtain this level had I had followed myself and did do the evil things in life. Now, it looks like they're obtaining those things, but again, what's 100 years of, or what is it, 80 years, you know, of living however you want? That's like a speck compared to eternity. These people, sadly, I don't see them as happy. I feel like if they're doing all of those things and they have a conscience or they have, like, a spirit, how can they not feel that they're wrong? They've become numb to it, and that's called reprobate, which is really sad. Those things are difficult. I'd rather not be like that. You know, the fact that you guys can feel certain things and, like, still feel remorse is such a blessing. There are people out there who don't feel it.

They're literally, I've met a lot of people like that, just stone cold, and that's sad. That's not only psychopathic, it's just downright sad. If you don't have a filter, if you don't have any sense of anything, like, you're literally not human anymore. You're literally just a robot. You're just like, oh, I do this because this is what it is. I don't care. That's not a way to live. I've been there, too. And so it's such a horrible feeling to be like, you know, and I think James Sexton put it really well when he was on our podcast. He was like, I know millionaires, I know billionaires, and they're not happy. So don't let your eyes deceive you. Just because bro got a yacht and, you know, their own island and all that, they are not happy individuals. I guarantee you. And then you go to places like Africa, Brazil, third world countries, where they have nothing to their name. They've never even tried Coke, like Coca-Cola. They've never tried chocolate. They've never tried all those things. Stop it, Jeremy, you child. They've never tried Coca-Cola, okay? Cola, cola, as the Koreans say.
