Unstoppable Obnoxious Faith | Johannes Amritzer

Good evening, good evening. First, I want to thank my favorite pastors in Pittsburgh, Jeff and Melody Leake, for having me again and again. And I really feel so much at home here. I feel like, you know, an assistant pastor to Jeff. That's how I feel. So well taken care of by the team. And when I came in, Jeff said that you guys had decided to give us in SOS an additional $50,000 in your Kingdom Builders. And thank you. How could you know that I needed a 50 grand right now? How do you always come in so right? Should I tell you what you're giving towards if you feel like giving to the 50,000? We were told by the Holy Spirit to do something strategic, apostolic, but still for evangelists. So, you know, on the continent of Africa where I'm active, we got 58 countries, 54 official and four not international recognized. So we went out to the general superintendents of all the Pentecostal denominations of Africa and we asked them to pick out two full-fledged evangelists from all these 58 countries and send them to us. We would pay their airfares. We would issue their visas and we would train them for a two and a half week booth camp. So it's called the African Evangelistic Booth Camp. So we give them a week of training at our base where we take care of their food and lodging

and then we take them with us on a booth on the ground training to one of our festivals and let them cast out demons, heal the sick and move in power, right? And then we're sending them back home with two objectives to put up their own National Evangelistic Booth Camp and conduct a festival, a Jesus festival the way they've seen. So and I said, Lord, how is this going to be done? You know, sometimes you feel lack of faith when the Holy Spirit speaks. He said, you build the ark, I bring the animals. And yesterday I received a text message that we had evangelists, listen up now, with visas issued, airfares paid from 57 out of the 58 nations. I know that I'm just getting you to applaud this and say it's a miracle, but for my team, it's probably been a logistical nightmare, you know, but this is fantastic. So they are flying in, so in two weeks, but it's a big bill, $550,000 and we have $500,000. And then I'm coming in here. You're saying we are giving the additional 50. So thank you to Alison Park for always being so generous and so faithful. I want to greet the God behind bars. Can you help me greet those guys? Can we stand up if they are looking at us now? And come on, clap for all the inmates that will be with us in service today.

Come on, God behind bars. That's fantastic. And I also want to greet all of our online viewers. Let me just check how many of you have met me before? How many of you? Okay. So who am I new to today? Could you wave your hand quick? Just wave it. Where have you been hiding my whole life? In a cornfield or behind a stack of snow? But there you are. So, well, I have a message tonight. I'll introduce myself a little bit as I preach. I always do that. But for you that are new. But I have a message tonight that I call unstoppable. Turn to your neighbor and say, you are unstoppable. Now you got to do it with conviction. Come on, with a little punch. Tell your neighbor, you are unstoppable. Come on. You got to use that sexy voice. Come on now, you are unstoppable. Yeah. So I want to talk about obnoxious faith. How many of you know? There are some people in the Bible stories and especially in the gospel stories that are just so obnoxious, unstoppable. How many of you know that?

How many of you familiar with the gospel story? Jesus, does that sound familiar? Born in Bethlehem, grew up in Nazareth, based out of Capernaum, died in Jerusalem on a cross, rose on the third day. Come on, sits at the right hand of the Father. Famous for 40 miracles that we got recorded and 12 disciples that turned the world upside down. Come on somebody. And today we are 2.5 billion Christians in the world and growing. So this is amazing. And we read in Mark's gospel chapter 10. Could you turn with me to Mark's gospel chapter 10? That will be our text for tonight. We're going to read about bland Bartimaeus receiving his sight. So Jesus, the water walker, the man that raised the dead, that preached like no one else, prostitute came to here and you know, soldiers and Pharisees and Sadducees and from all different political parties, they flocked to hear him. Some not with the cleanest motives, they were there to trap him, but they all went transformed by the words of Jesus Christ. And we read like this, that when this miracle worker had come to town, it says in verse 46, they came to Jericho and as Jesus and his disciples together with a large crowd were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus, which means sons of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside begging. Well, when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, quite a famous man, he began to shout, Jesus son of David, have mercy on me. Many rebuked him. What do you think they said? Shut up, man. He has just ministered to a large crowd. What are you doing?

They told him to be quiet, but when they did, it says, he shouted all the more. That's an obnoxious man. You tell him, shut up, man, and he shouts all the more. I like him already. How many of you like him? I mean, I don't have my background in church. I like obnoxious people, you know, and by the way, you're sitting here being so decent and beautiful. I partied with Americans before I became a Christian. You were always the loudest in the room, and now you're playing church on me here. Come on, come on. Can some of you lean forward and say, come on, preacher, come on. So unstoppable, he shouted all the more, son of David, have mercy on me. Jesus stopped and said, call him. So they called to the blind man, cheer up, on your feet, he's calling you. Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. What do you want me to do for you, Jesus asked him. I love this. We're coming back to this, but some might think that that is obvious. He's blind. He's begging at the road. But remember, Jesus never identifies you with your handicap and your past. Never ever. So what do you want me to do for you, rabbi? I want to see. And verse 52 says, go said Jesus, your faith has healed you. And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. OK, so I want to start here with unstoppable desperation. I think there are three things that we need to get down in order to get Jesus's attention. Now Jesus is in this room as well as he was on that road in Israel those days.

How many of you get that? When two or three are gathered, I will be among you, he said. And when we are gathered, his Holy Spirit moves and his Holy Spirit is here tonight with that undercurrent and performing miracles. As you listen, actually, when I'm preaching away, the Holy Spirit is already at work. So unstoppable desperation is my first point tonight. And I want to talk a little bit about that. How many of you know that it can be very, very annoying having a chauffeur? The first time I came as a missionary to Africa was 1995. And I had one of those cameras that I was so proud of. For the youth, we had cameras those days, big things. Yeah, not just the phones. And anyhow, I said, stop, stop, because I wanted to take a picture. But he always stopped 50 meters too late or 100 yards too late. You know what I mean? So finally, I lured him out. I said, I need to pee. So we peed at the roadside like you can do in Africa without getting busted as a sexual offender. So we peed at the roadside. And when we were quite done, I jumped into the steering wheel, started driving the car very slowly. And the driver had to catch up with me and jump in on the passenger seat. He said, what are you doing? What are you doing? I'm getting behind the steering wheel because I want to stop and I want to stop and I want to have my hand on the gear stick and my foot on the brake and on the gas. This is just how it is. You are never stopping when I want to stop. You get it?

Oh, yeah. Okay. Okay. He said. And I was driving the car from now on. An unstoppable desperation always wants to get behind the steering wheel. You don't want to be chauffeured around in life. You want to get control of your destiny. Right? You want to get to a place where you decide when to stop and when to go, how fast you want to go and how slow you want to go and so on. Now, I've seen some unstoppable desperation. If I tell you about my own life, I came to Teen Challenge. Some of you may know what that is. It's a rehab center that was founded here in America but all over the world as a 20 year old man. And I was a wreck. I was stuck in addictions of all kinds and I came to Teen Challenge and there my life was transformed by the gospel of Jesus. But yeah, yeah, when I came to Teen Challenge, I got to tell you, I dug a hole outside the gates in a little forest strip and there I put the Jack Daniels and a bottle of gin and a couple of packages of smoke and I put some dirt over and I thought, I might have this as a backup. How many of you know a little backup?

If this doesn't go well, I can always sneak out at night and get myself a shot or two. We're coming back to that but just keep that in mind. All right? How many of you know that unstoppable desperation may not come right away? What do you mean by that? Well, you got to come to a place where you know I'm lost now if I don't get a change. When my mama came to faith, who was a raving alcoholic, my whole upbringing, me and my brother observed her as she became skin and bone and her liver was giving in but we always said, she's not ready yet. She's not there yet. She's not at that unstoppable desperation stage yet. How many of you know what I'm talking about? You got to come to a place where it's now or never, I'm going to die or it's Jesus. Bartimaeus was there. He would not take no for an answer. He was just shouting at the roadside when he heard that the miracle walker was passing by, he started shouting and he even called him the Messiah. It was radical because the Jews were not sure, is this the Messiah or is it not? But he said, son of David, Messiah, have mercy on me. And I love that because that catches Jesus's attention and I want to get you all really in on this point with me that it's not until you have unstoppable desperation that you actually stop Jesus on his tracks.

That's when you get his attention. When I wanted to go as a missionary to Africa, I didn't know you could collect money in churches. I didn't know Alison Park at that time. I didn't know, no. So I sold my guns, I sold my car. You know, I even broke the cars in parts because I could get more money out of it if I sold spare tails, I sold the whole car. How many of you know where I'm coming from just by telling the story? But there was nothing that could stop me. I was desperate. I drove a whole night down to Germany because I saw in an ad in a newspaper that there was a car on sale. And I called him and I said, if you are here tomorrow morning, you can buy it. I drove the whole way through from Sweden in the north of Germany, from Sweden in the north of Europe all the way through to Germany. Bought that car in the morning, went back up, sold it. And then I was on a plane to Africa. Guns sold, come on somebody. Cars broken in parts. And I'd sold a car that I imported from Germany. Nothing could stop me. In Africa, I've seen this kind of unstoppable desperation. And that's probably why I love Africans so much.

Let me tell you about a guy who had seen the advertisements of our festival and he was in prison. Now listen, he broke out of jail. He stole a car. He bribed a police officer at the roadside that stopped him. He got to the meeting and he got healed. That's what we call unstoppable desperation. So I'm not going to minister to you if you sit there in your charismatic little bubble and say that if he says that I got size 11 in shoes and two blue socks, then I know God is in the room. Nah, you sit with your blue socks and your size nine shoes where you sit because you're not ready yet. When you're ready to break out of a jail, steal a car and bribe a police officer to get to the meeting to be healed, then I'll pray for you. All right. I love. love the guy He came up and he said could you pray for me? I'm in a wheelchair. Where's where is your wheelchair? I said I left it How how many of you get he was so desperate he didn't realize he had already gotten healed Do you pray for me I'm in a wheelchair where's the wheelchair and then oh and then he he cost I can't repeat it I said, I don't think you need healing anymore. That's unstoppable desperation people We talked about the wheelchair mafia in Nepal in SOS. You heard, right? There were 20 people been driven there from a hospital and when healing prayer came they came How many of you know, it's hard to do crowd control when 20 people are wheeling themselves towards the front

In in in battle in in in in battle front formation They broke through every line They started climbing the rig of the stage as I was preaching yes, they were Lame from the waist down, but how many of you know, they had Biceps like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime They were climbing the wheel and then they were dropping themselves from in between the lights and the loudspeakers Onto the stage as I was preaching shouting heal me Boom, boom. Boom. Heal me and many of them were healed with us Not even touching them Because it's unstoppable desperation Yeah, the masses of Karachi That broke through 150 soldiers that we had been given to Take care of crowd control and and surrounded our car and pressed up their sick children towards the windshield They stole my heart forever Finally, we just wheeled our windows down a little bit and touched as many as we could and we heard them scream I'm healed. I have received it. This is how you see when there is unstoppable desperation People are being healed. It's airborne. It's just miracles. It's just flowing the key factor to touch the Resurrected living Jesus Christ that is here tonight is unstoppable desperation. I Love the villagers outside of Lodfar in North Kenya. This was in September They walked 70 to 80 kilometers with their sick from the villages to get them to our festival site when I saw them walking 20 kilometers from our site, I knew we were going to have an outbreak of mass healings Sometimes we wonder why don't we see more in the Western world? Why don't we see more of healings and miracles? Well, you got the answer right there You're not ready yet When you are in that stage of unstoppable desperation

People can tell you to shut up and you shout all the louder like Bartimaeus. I Love the guy that was kept in isolation In a prison cell. Let me speak to the people of God behind bars right now He he could make one phone call and he had been listening to me on podcast and he made one phone call and he said This is the only phone call I can make I'm probably in for yeah, I'm going to be sentenced with more than 20 years, but Could you lead me to salvation? And I led him to salvation over the phone. He had three minutes. It's a quick gospel preaching and a quick prayer and The word is that he's freer than he has ever been serving his 20 years worshiping Jesus Or the honey farmers Honey farmers that sold all their honey all their storage Just to get their lame son to one of our meetings They came and we prayed for him and nothing happened. Do you think they gave up now? They borrowed honey from all of their neighbors until they were two years in debt And brought their son again and again and on the third time He walked up out of his stretcher and was healed by Jesus Christ Unstoppable Desperation turn to your neighbor say unstoppable desperation. That's it. That's what it is It says in Matthew's gospel 11 and verse 12 and from the time of John the Baptist Until now the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing and the violent take it by force There are some violent people that are just pressing through sometimes I wondered why It seems like the Muslims are getting healings quicker than the Pentecostals. Sometimes I've been wondering why the animists and the ancestral worshippers are more hanging in there than any shout me down church I've been to in America. Are you hearing me now? What is it? It's the unstoppable desperation. I got nothing else. This is it. All right. We come to the second point. No excuses. Many of you remember that it's said about Bartimaeus

that when he had Jesus's attention and told him, cheer up, he's calling for you. He. He throw his cloak aside and jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. That might not mean much to you, but let me tell you, in the Bible days and especially in Israel, that cloak was not just any cloak. That was his license to beg. If you if you should be allowed to beg in the streets, you had to have this cloak, this particular cloak. But when he heard Jesus call him, he threw his cloak aside. I love that. Because that means he burned the bridges. There was no hole in the ground outside of the rehab center with a bottle of Jack Daniels and a bottle of Bombay gin. Are you here? Well, I heard the sermons in there. What's new to me, Jesus can save, Jesus can heal, Jesus can transform. And I listened for three weeks and they talked about throwing away the victim card. You know, I had no really victim card. It was just my mom. I was the reason I was a drunkard and my dad in and out of jail. And, you know, he he was probably another reason. How many of you know that we have all these excuses for it? And we don't want to take responsibility for our own lives. Finally, they said, well, aren't you a grown up? Aren't you 20? How long are you going to blame your parents and teachers and foster care? I've been living in 22 homes. I said it's it's it's the bad foster dads I've had. It's all the times I've been beaten up. It's all the times I've been locked up. There's a reason for this.

Well, as long as you have a victim card, as long as you're holding onto that license to beg, you will never have your miracle and your breakthrough. So one night I went out the gates, actually actually snuck out a window and I dug up the Jack Daniels and throw it right into a stone wall. And the Bombay gin went after it and the smokes. I destroyed between my hands and went back in again and. Cried tears and said, Jesus. I throw away my victim card now. I throw away my comfy blanket now, throw away my pacifier, you know, my self-medication. Here I am. Do whatever you want. Who dares to throw away a victim card? Who dares to come to Jesus that way? Luke's Gospel 962 says Jesus replied, no one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God. And I would say no one that looks back having an escape route will ever see the miraculous power and transformation of Jesus Christ. It starts with you coming to the stage of unstoppable desperation. But then you got to throw off the begging garment. You got to throw away the victim card. You got to take responsibility and say, hey, I put all on this card, right? Oh, I'm going all in. Right. Here are all my markers all in. It's this or nothing. Well, then there's just one thing left. We call it brutal honesty. And that's my third point. Brutal honesty. What do you want me to do for you, Jesus said. And I, I love that so much because we might have all these labels.

I mean, you know, for a long time, I called myself a sober alcoholic. I don't do that anymore. You know why? Because I'm a new creation in Christ Jesus. For a long time, I said, I'm this, I'm that, I'm this, I'm that. This, I'm that, I'm former. This, I'm X, that, no. You got to come to a point where Jesus asks you, because Jesus is that guy that never labels you because of a troubled past. And never labels you because of your handicap. Jesus doesn't see a blind man. He sees Bartimae. is jesus doesn't see an addict he sees you he knows that you're just treating yourself there's a wound that is the reason for your addiction as long as we treat sin as a stain you probably heard me say it before it comes back if there is a wound underneath your jeans the stain will come back and come back and come back we're gonna rip open those genes and take care of the wound and the stain will never come back when i realized it was my rejection it was my deep deep wounds that i needed to deal with and jesus cleaned out those wounds with wine and oil with his healing power well i had to come to a point first where i said what yeah first i flushed down my smokes right and i threw my bottles into the stone wall but um there is this you know when the counselor asked me so who are you who are you i came up and i came up with all excuses victim cards so who are you and i wrote it down because this is what i said i have it on a piece of paper in an old bible this is what i said one day all right i am a thief a liar and an addict did you hear that that's who i am well in the same moment i confessed i'm a thief i'm a liar and an addict jesus said go your faith has healed you no more cancelled over done away with because in the moment of brutal honesty the transformative power of the gospel hits you in the split of a second there's nothing so freeing than just saying it like it is this is what i am a thief a liar and an addict i even have a date scribbled down behind it and that day when i confessed

jesus made a new creation out of a wreck hallelujah a street boy became a gentleman and today believe it or not i've been sitting with nine heads of state in africa my relatives are scratching their heads we know his ex-girlfriends we saw him crawl up the stairs and throw up all over himself we know everything about this guy what the heck happened i said when i confessed i told my uncle not so long ago when i confessed that i'm a liar and that i'm an addict and i'm a thief that's when jesus turned me into a brand new person brutal honesty what do you want from me now he's standing eye to eye with jesus he says i want to see you again and in that same moment without even touching him listen and this is the power with the gospel no you don't need oftentimes the laying on of hands the anointing with oil the all the pentecostal witch doctor tricks are you here we walk around you in seven circles and spit against the east and bury ashes in the west you are you hearing me no what you need is to stand face to face to jesus and when he asks you what do you want you say i want to see you again i am a thief i am a liar i am an addict and i need you and in that moment everything changes tonight i think we got all these three factors right in this room i can sense it the church here i've been fasting and praying you've been doing us a series that you call a house of healing right and i'm so privileged to be here with you tonight and tell you if you are one of those blind bartimaeuses you may not be blind in your eyes but you might be blind to yourself you might be blind in your marriage you might be blind and blaming each and everyone else you might be resentful bitter you might be stuck at a roadside but if you come to the place of unstoppable desperation i don't want to stay here anymore i'm not going to take no for an answer i will shout because this is the miracle worker this is the jesus i've heard about listen jesus is not just a fairy tale I'm telling you guys, I have seen when demons come out by mass, I've seen when 1,500 people report healings in a week, I've seen when cities and nations have been shaken by that power of the gospel of the Jesus that they crucified, who was buried for three days but rose again and conquered devil and hell. There's no chance for any devil or any demon to hold you when Jesus walks by and Jesus has come to Pittsburgh tonight, snowstorm or no snowstorm, are you listening, listening to me?

Inches of snow doesn't stop Jesus, he walks and he's here tonight and he's walking right through and if you are in that stage of unstoppable desperation, you will start to shout, you're not going to wait until I've made the perfect invitation, you're not going to wait until we've dimmed the light so much that it feels so cozy and so right to respond, no, no, no, you couldn't care less. My girlfriend is coming or not, if my boyfriend is joining me or not, I couldn't care. I'm at that unstoppable desperation place and I'm ready to throw away all excuses. I don't know what your Jack Daniels is or your gin is, for me it was that, smokes that I needed to flush down and lies and you know I lied so much for 20 years that I didn't know who I'd lied to and what girlfriend I'd lied to. I don't know if you've ever been there, I didn't know what was the truth anymore. I send some Bartimaeuses in the room, you're sitting where you're sitting but you will get Jesus' attention when you get into that obnoxious, unstoppable faith. I'm not staying here, not staying here and when they tell you to shut up, you shout the louder. If you need to break out of jail and bribe a police officer, you'll do that too. And then when you meet with Jesus, listen, then you're not meeting with a pastor, you're not meeting with a counselor, you're not meeting with a Christian shrink, are you hearing me now? You're meeting with Jesus, you're meeting with God. I know that some of you have left church and you've come to amuse a friend tonight, to be nice and polite to Maumau and here you are tonight. Listen, I don't know what kind of people you've met, mean, spirited, narrow-minded, hypocritical people, I don't know what you've met but don't let them destroy Jesus for you. Jesus has got nothing to do with what happened in your past. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. Jesus is the same as He was in Israel, so He will be in Pittsburgh. Jesus is here tonight. Jesus is resurrected from the dead and Jesus is here through His Holy Spirit and everything is possible.

A blind can receive His sight, kidneys can be cured in a second, a fat liver can be cured in a second. Jesus is here. Brutal honesty, I feel it so strong in my inside and remember, in Jesus' eyes, you're not an ex-prostitute, you're not an ex-stripper, you're not an ex-this and that. Listen, in Jesus' eyes, you're not the son of an elder or the son of a pastor. In Jesus' eyes, you are what you are and when you confess what you are, in all brutal honesty, He's going to tell you, go, your faith has healed you and in that moment, it changes. Let's stand up on our feet, I feel Jesus' presence everywhere here, I feel His presence everywhere here. Let's stand up on your feet. Can we all lift up our eyes towards heaven? Can we do that? Even if you don't share in my faith, even if you don't call yourself a believer, just lift up your face and close your eyes because Jesus is in this room right now, the water walker. You've heard He turned water into wine, in my life, He made beer into furniture. Jesus is here, Jesus is here with all His brilliance, with all His glory, Jesus is here. Demons run because Jesus is here, jackals break because Jesus is here, chains fall to the ground because Jesus is here, emotions and troubled souls and a past that is hunting you at night, nightmares, anxiety and fear, leaves, flies like black ravens to the sky because Jesus is here. And he's walking through this room tonight, and if you sit at the roadside, start to shout. Start. Start to go after him, and if they tell you to shut up, go after him. You're brave. This is it. This is your time. You can't be stopped. This is your time. Throw that cloak aside when he calls you. Throw away the victim card and the excuses and come to him. And in all brutal honesty, look into his eyes. His eyes are flames of fire.

His hands are so gentle. Nail-marked hands that rips your cords and chains apart. Hands that wipes away your tears. Hands that lifts you and gives you a new identity. Hands that transforms you. Jesus is here. Lift up your faces towards heaven and close your eyes. I want to pray for you, Father. I pray for every man and woman in this room. I pray that angels will surround this place right now. Pray that every demon will keep them out shut. I bind fear, doubt. I bind witchcraft and confusion, and I release with the keys of the kingdom. Faith unto salvation and faith unto healing in this room. Joy and freedom. Father, I thank you. Wherever you're standing, just lift up your face towards heaven. Close your eyes. Because with your inner eyes, you can see him now. You can see Jesus. I know your heart is shouting. I know your inner, your inner being is shouting. Son of David. Miracle worker from Nazareth. Jesus. Jesus. Don't walk me by. Jesus. Son of David. Here I am. I can see Jesus turning to you. Call him. Cheer up, my friend. He's calling you. Throw that cloak to the side now. Come to him and tell him who you are. If you've never prayed a salvation prayer, this is your night. If you have walked away from a mean-spirited, hypocritical, narrow-minded religion that were doing nothing but punching you in the guts, come to Jesus. Come to Jesus, full of grace, full of mercy, full of freedom. Come to Jesus. If you want to pray a salvation prayer for the first time in your life, or if you want to rededicate your life to Jesus tonight, it is as holy, it is as beautiful. Wherever you stand, lift up your faces. Don't care about the ones standing around you. Don't care about anyone else right now. Girlfriend, boyfriend,

uncle, working colleague, you couldn't care less. You're Bartimaeus at the roadside, and you cannot be stopped. You're obnoxious. You're shouting now, because Jesus is walking by. I will count to three now, quick, and when I've done, you're going to shoot up your right hand in the air, and you're going to say, this is my night of salvation. If you've never prayed a salvation prayer, I will help you. We'll pray one. We'll talk to Jesus tonight. If you walked away from Jesus many years ago, but tonight you want to try Jesus, and not religion, not church, not other. You want to try Jesus. Come to Him. Come home to Him. Embrace Him. He's waiting for you. Lift up your faces. Close your eyes. Jesus is in this room, and I count to three, and on three you shoot up your right hand to Jesus and to me, so that I can help you. This is it. No excuses. No victim cards. One. Make that hand ready. Make the hand, make the right hand ready. One, two, three. Come on. Yes, hands are coming up everywhere. Wave them. Wave them. Yes. I see some 20 hands here. 20, maybe 30 hands. Wave them to Jesus. You couldn't care less if people see you. This is it. Wave them to Jesus. I will count one more time, and then those of you that have a heart that is beating so fast, but you haven't dared to lift your hand yet, you're lifting it too. One, two, three. Come on. Yes. Yes. Hold them up. Hold them up. Don't take those hands down. Wave them to Jesus, wherever you're standing. Hold them up. Now I want you to do one more thing, because you've already lifted your hand, so the next step is so easy.
