Two Angels at Jesus's Tomb....How Did I Miss This

There are two angels sitting inside the empty tomb of Jesus, and nobody really knows why they're there. But here's the thing. Those same two angels will show up in two other places in scripture. And when you line all three of these locations side by side, you realize God hit a single storyline across thousands of years of biblical history. You're gonna wanna lock in today for this episode, because by the end of the video, you're going to see how two angels, three locations, and one story all point to the exact same moment. ♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh ♪ Welcome back to Get Into the Word. My name is Robbie Gallaty. Did you know that there are two trees in the Garden of Eden? Since the Tree of Life is mentioned in passing, many people tend to forget that there's another tree in the garden besides the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Let's go to Genesis chapter two, verses eight through nine, and look at what the Word of God says. The Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had formed. The Lord God caused the ground to grow, every tree pleasing in appearance and good for food, including the Tree of Life in the middle of the garden, as well as, it implies to the side of

or on the fringes of the garden, as well as the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Now, what's interesting about this tree is that it is placed in the center of the garden. The Tree of Life is right in the middle. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is off to the side. Now, the Hebrew implies that it is not the centerpiece of the story, but sadly, we know how this ends. Adam and Eve make it the center of their lives. Why would God instruct them not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil? It can't be because they would learn good and evil. We know this is not the case because they already knew the difference between good and evil because they understood that they shouldn't eat from the tree. The serpent goes up to Eve and asks the question, did God really say? A better translation of that verse comes from Hebrew scholar Rabbi David Forman. Rabbi David Forman says, the better translation is this, even if God said, do not eat from the trees of the garden, so what? Who cares? Do it anyway. If that's the question, then it was actually a test of obedience. You see, Adam and Eve didn't want to be with God.

They wanted to be God. They didn't wanna live by God's word. They wanted to have the last word themselves. Now, watch what God does next because this is where the first angels enter the story and they are protecting and prohibiting them doing something really we don't expect. Look at Genesis chapter three, verse 23. We go down to the punishment. It says, God sent him and Eve away from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken. He drove the man out and stationed the cherubim and the flaming whirling sword east of the Garden of Eden to guard the way to the tree of life. Now, what's interesting about this is God puts these angels to not only punish them for the sin they committed in the garden, but he actually puts these angels there to protect them from coming back to eat of the tree of life. Why? You see, if the couple eats from the tree of life in their sin, it would seal their separation from God forever. This wasn't cold-hearted punishment from God. It was an act of mercy disguised as judgment. Now, here's the key detail. God places cherubim or cherubim, not seraphim, not general angels, not even random angels or even important angels like Gabriel or Michael.

He puts cherubim there. The path of God is blocked from humanity. The angels are actually keeping humans away from life. Now, I want you to hold that image in your mind because it's about to flip. You see, this specific type of angel only appears in the Torah in one other place. That's location number one where we just saw it. Let me take you to the second time we see these cherubim in the Bible. The cherubim block the way to life, but here's what's wild. These same angels are actually going to provide an invitation back to the way of life in Exodus chapter 25, verse 18. So let's go to Exodus 25 and look at what it says. God says, make one cherub at one end and one cherub at the other end of the Ark of the Covenant. So God is going to meet with his people, not in the box of the Ark of the Covenant, hovering above the mercy seat between these two cherubs or angels. At its two ends make cherubim, same angels, cherubim, of one piece with the mercy seat. Drop down to verse 21. So the mercy seat on top of the ark, or set the mercy seat on top of the ark, and put the tablets, that's the Ten Commandments, inside of the ark. I will meet with you there above the mercy seat between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the testimony, and I will speak with you from there about all that I command you regarding the Israelites. Now what's interesting about this is God is going to meet with the people in the Holy of Holies on top of a box called the Ark of the Covenant.

The ark was a box in the tabernacle where the presence of God resided. And again, he's not in the box, I thought that for years. He's actually on top of the box between the two angels. The angels are looking down at God's presence above, don't miss this, and his word within. And if you see this picture of the angels, you'll realize they are enthralled by the way back to God. Now I want you to connect the dots. What are the cherubim guarding inside the ark? One of the items inside the ark was the Ten Commandments. We just read that. God's holy word given to Moses on the mountain when he comes down. How does this connect to the tree of life? You're probably wondering. Well, the Jewish people referred to God's word as the tree of life. According to Proverbs 3.18, the Bible says, she, God's word, is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her. Those who hold fast to her are called blessed. Let that sink in for a moment. God's word is called the tree of life. And here we have the same two angels that kept humanity away, you're gonna love this, away from the tree of life in the garden, are now guarding the ark of the covenant which contains the word of God. But here's the major difference between the garden and the ark. The first cherubim were actually keeping the couple away from the tree of life. These cherubim are actually inviting mankind back to the way of life. How? Through the word of God. They present a choice. Once again, will you listen to God's word? This is a common question we're hearing all through the Bible. Will you listen to God's word or the world's opinions? Okay, we've traveled from the garden to the ark, two angels in both places. The same angels, if you will. One group keeping you away from life,

the other group pointing you back to the way of life. Now, if that was the end of the story, it'd be pretty incredible already, you would agree. But there's one more location and where I tell you it is, it's going to change the entire way you read the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus from here on out. After Jesus was buried in the tomb, Mary went back after the stone was rolled away. It's Mary Magdalene and she approaches the tomb. She was the one who prepared his body with spices and burial material and now she goes back to check on the tomb. Now, here's what I want to show you. Notice what happens when Mary comes back to the actual tomb. It says Mary stood outside of the tomb crying and as she was crying, she stooped to look inside the tomb. Now, watch what she sees. Mary sees two angels in white where Jesus's body had been lying. One at, very important, one at the head and the other at the feet. And they said to her, woman, why are you crying? What does she say? Because they've taken my Lord away, she told them, and I don't know where they have put him. This is interesting. What does Mary see? Mary sees two angels, no accident, one on the right and one on the left. And the empty space between them was where the presence of God had been in the person of Jesus Christ. Immediately, I imagine, in her mind, the lights start to go off, the bulbs start to register. She is seeing, watch this, a recreation of the Ark of the Covenant right before her eyes. Two angels are flanking the place where God's presence formerly dwelled. But something is missing. What is it? The person of Jesus or the presence of God. Why? Because Jesus is no longer there because he's alive. Do you see what's happening here? The presence of God no longer hovers over a man-made box in a temple. You should say

amen on that. Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, God is about to take up residence, not in a box made by human hands, but in the hearts of every believer who dares to call upon on him for salvation. Angels in Eden, angels at the ark, and angels at the tomb. God spent 4,000 years telling one story, and most people read right past it. And so the question I wanna leave you with is this, which tree are you eating from? The tree of the knowledge of good and evil, doing it your way, having the last word, or the tree of life, which is God's word? The angels aren't blocking the way anymore because the tomb is empty. The path to life is wide open to anyone who accepts Jesus as their Lord and their savior. Two angels, three locations, thousands of years apart. And here's the good news, they are all telling the same exact story. And that is God has been working since the beginning of time to bring us back to himself in spite of our sin, in spite of our separation, in spite of our pride, in spite of our shame.
