True Surrender Starts With the Next Yes | Mornings with Mico

Good people, what's happening? Thank you for joining me today in my one-on-one time with God. My name is Miko and glad you're here. Today, this week we've been talking about surrender. And today I want to talk about surrender from this thought. Surrender becomes obedience. Surrender becomes obedience. And there's a passage in Luke chapter 9, verse 23 and 24. He says, then he said to them all, whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it. But whoever loses their life for me will save it. Surrender is very much so proven not by what you feel, but it's actually revealed by what you do. Jesus makes it very clear that this is not just meant to be a one time decision, but that this is a daily. It's a daily surrender. It's a daily dying to self. It's it's it happens regularly. Pick up your cross daily. That means choosing obedience when it's inconvenient, choosing obedience and saying yes. When it costs you something, following through when no one else is watching like these are. It's not simply having this, you know, transformative moment or just these grand events like this is very much so the day in the day out. The mundane, the when it's not necessarily pretty or convenient, but but choosing to just die every day and surrendering every day. The things that are surrendering, the things that you may not want to surrender, but choosing to do that in obedience every day. This surrender is going to lead you. It becomes your obedience. A lot of people say that they've surrendered, but then they delay in obedience and specifically in areas maybe that God is actually speaking, you know. And I don't know if you've heard this before, and if not, I'll be the first to tell you. And if you have, I'm just here to remind you. But delayed obedience is still disobedience. As this tension that we live in in this faith walk where we want clarity before obedience. Right. We got often asked for obedience before he gives clarity, though. And we want to feel ready. Right. Or or we want to feel like equipped and prepared before we're willing to obey. But a lot of times God's forming that rhetoric, that readiness and that preparation through obedience. I was actually reminded of this the other day, even in me stepping into ministry. I really had no vision for what this would look like. I didn't have vision for how this would all play out. I just had this conviction that this is what God was leading me to. And I said, yes. And I was like, hey, you know, God, I know this is you. And this is just the way I'm wired. Right. And God, I know this is you. And my answer is yes. And I'll just get excited about the possibilities along the way as you begin to reveal those things to me. I'm reminded of the story of Abraham in a book of Genesis, how very early on God tells Abraham to leave your home and go to a land that I'll show you.

And Abraham was called to this, this, this next step, leave, leave what you've known for your entire life and just go and I'll show you where I'm sending you. And that's that I know like that can be tough. That can be one of those things where it's like you want to be able to make sense of these decisions. But a lot of cases when following God, you may not always get clear direction about the road ahead. He may just illuminate the step in front of you. He may just make it clear, hey, this is the next step. And we're called to that obedience regardless. Regardless, we have the vision down the road. We're called to that immediate next step. Surrender. It's it's it's it's not real until it shows up in your decisions and your decision may not be a matter of you going into this land. You know that that's that's unseen or, you know, that he hasn't revealed to you yet. For you, your surrender showing up in your decisions may simply look like the day to day practical decisions that you're called to make. Right. Forgiving someone that you've been holding on to walking away from something that, you know, isn't right. Stepping into something that God is calling you toward changing the habit that you've been making excuses for. Not big, dramatic moment, but consistent, quiet, obedient. Yes, that is part of this day to day. That is a very intricate. Part of our day-to-day walk with God and that's what surrender looks like for us today Something that I want to leave you with In your quiet time with God just three questions that have really kind of been um Sitting on my heart that um, I'm actually, you know, I'm packing with God and I want to share with you What is God asking you to do right now that you've been delaying? Where are you waiting for more clarity instead of taking a step of obedience the next step of obedience? And what would a meet immediate obedience look like in your life today? Sit with that Let God search your heart and just reveal to you what it is that Maybe you're doing or not doing that's actually causing a sense of disconnect with him. I can think of how I'll be I May be petitioning God for something over here But the last instruction that he's given me is actually to do this thing over here And I can't make sense in my mind how this has anything to do with that and me putting this off may be Delaying him answering this request over here. So don't even necessarily assume that as you're speaking of God as you're praying to God and as he's asking you to do something and as you're praying to God and as he's placing things on your heart, don't don't try to Necessarily connect the dots before being obedient

Just be obedient. I'm talking to you about this But Lord for whatever reason you're talking to me about this and this is what I feel you're calling me to do next I don't see how this relates to that. Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't I don't know but This is what you've called me to you've made this clear that this is a next step of obedience for me And while I'm still praying to you about this I need to also be moving forward in this area over here that you've called me to and Trusting that if this is his desire, this is his will that in the end or at some point it'll begin to make sense That that vision may become that much clearer for you. That's just you know Just from my own experience. That's us God That's how God has worked with me not to say that this is the only way he shows up in some cases He may give you clarity about the vision ahead, right? But if you're in the camp where like most of us we don't have That complete vision or insight as to what lays, you know down the road Months weeks years from now and whatever the case But we definitely can feel the pressing on our hearts now for what God is calling us to do next right now in this present moment Just encourage you to lean into that That's what I got for y'all today Hope this blesses you Quick remind again of those three questions. What does God ask me you to do right now that you've been delaying? Were you waiting for more clarity instead of taking a step of obedience?
