In verse 24 it says that he gave thanks to God for it And then he broke it in pieces and he said this is my body which is given for you And then he took the cup of wine after supper saying that this cup is the new covenant between God and his people But it's an agreement confirmed with my blood I want you to think about this moment, this evening. People that he already knows are going to promise things that they're not going to follow through on. And it just makes you wonder, like, why would God choose this moment? Why would God choose to have this holy moment in an environment which is ultimately going to be Jesus' worst night, and it's certainly the worst night in the lives of these individuals. And I just, I wonder, I wonder if the whole reason why God orchestrated it in this way is because he didn't want this holy moment to be thought of as a reward for our best night's, but he wanted it to be a reminder of his grace for our worst ones. And today as we come before the table and we are taken holy communion together, every one of us sits around the table with our shortcomings, with our failures, with our promises that are constantly broken, and I just want to speak to you in this moment that this isn't a moment where we're bringing in our holiness into it. It's a moment where we're bringing in our brokenness, and God ordained it to be as such so that we could receive today the grace in which he desires us to walk in. As we partake today, let's go before the Lord, and let's examine our hearts. Father, today we come before you in this moment. It's holy because you made it holy, not because we do, and Father, today we ask you to forgive us of every sin that we've committed. Lord, every attitude, every bit of bitterness, Lord, the relationships that we have that we know are not of you, Lord, anything that we bring into this place, Lord, that could be a cloud over our lives, Lord, today we lay it at your feet, and we ask you to forgive us of our sins. Church it was that night that Jesus took the bread which represented his body, that would be broken, not physically broken, but in every other way broken for us, that he took his body and hung it on the cross so that you and I cannot just have life, but we could have an abundant life.
You grabbed your bread today, let's eat together. And the Bible says that in the same way that he took the cup, the juice, the juice represents his blood, his blood that washes out our sins that when we come before him and we ask for forgiveness, that he not only forgives him, but his word says that he remembers them no more. Would you drink? Father, today we come before you in this moment and we bring every insecurity, we bring every bit of unworthiness that is in our life and we bring it and we lay it at your feet. God, we thank you that you loved us so much that you sent your one and only son to die on a cross for our sins. And so Father, today we choose to live out of that, out of the abundance of forgiveness and grace and mercy, that Lord, we may live and be and become all that you have created us to be. And so Father, today we speak and we come against the guilt, we come against condemnation and we know that it's from the pit of hell because your son came and your son died and he shed his blood so that we could walk in right standing and relationship with you. Would you give him praise for the sacrifice of his son on the cross today? As the estrus come by and pick up that communion element, he just sipped your hands once you are done with that one more time before the Lord. Thank you so much Jesus. Thank you Thank you.
