The Weight of God’s Favor | Mornings with Mico
De’Mico reflects from Eden Park on humility, pride, and what it means to steward God’s favor well. Through James 4:6 and his own honest wrestling, he invites us to pay attention to the places where ego creeps in and to practice humility through simple, unseen acts of service right in front of us.
Yo, yo, good people. What's going on? We're outside of Eaton Park right now, man. I just came out here to get a peace of mind. Something I feel God's been stirring up in my heart as of recent. I'm always, you know, I feel like there's always something, you know, that he's doing in my heart. And it's not always a new thing. Sometimes it's just a reminder. And today, yesterday, these past couple days, I feel like God's just been reminding me again. Just speaking to me about the Holy Spirit, about humility. The Holy Spirit's been speaking to me about humility. Reminded of a verse. I think we went over it last week. It's James 4, 6. It says, God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. And Proverbs 34 goes on to say, Towards the scorners he is scornful, to the humble he gives favor. And I recognize that God's favor on my life is just so apparent. Anybody that I talk to, like in my personal life, not anybody. But oftentimes I hear from people who are in my personal life, you know, tell me, man, it is just so apparent God's favor on your life. And like, I know that's the case. You know what I mean? The life, like my day to day, my wife, my family, like just His joy, influence, the redemption, like all of it. It's just, it's just so clear that it's His favor that's upon me in the rooms that I'm in and the spaces that I'm out. And I think this passage, it makes it clear that, you know, like the thing that, that places us in position to be recipients of that favor is that humility. And not, you know, at all, like, I guess, toot my own horn or pat myself on the back or anything with that. But I believe that that is something that God has according to His word. That's something that, that, that, that maybe He sees. And that's, that's, that's His why. That's part of His why. And the favor, why He's chosen me for His favor in certain ways. But the thing is that even with that humility, it's not absent. It's, it doesn't mean your heart is too full of pride and ego. And I think that the closer I get to God and the more aware that I am of His favor on my life, the more discomfort I feel and discontent I feel with the pride and the ego and the crevices of my heart. To the point where it really just like, at times, like, y'all, like, it really just like bothers me. Like, I'm like, I don't know. And as of, as of recent, that's, I think that's kind of, as I'll just notice things in my heart or in my thoughts, I think that it's just been more and more bothersome to me. Just this idea of knowing that, that for God to choose me and to place His favor on me, my response just needs to be such a posture of just humility and gratitude and anything outside of that. It's one, it, it, it, it, it places you in, in, in opposition to God because He says that He opposes the proud, right? And shows grace to the humble. And so one, it's just a stark warning as to why you should definitely, you know, continue to pursue humility because you don't want to place yourself in opposition to God. You know what I mean? Like when God, the opposite is like, well, what do you do with that? You feel me? Like, it's just, it's a battle you just can't win. But not even so much out of fear of His opposition, but just wanting to be pleasing to Him and wanting to, I think for me, even internally, it feels more pleasant to be in a place of gratitude and to be in a place of humility as opposed to pride or ego. And just these, just these past few days, it's just, I feel like it's just been kind of something that's just been like, He's been ministering in my heart, just reminding me of one, just the need to, and then also like, hey, you know, like be, be, be mindful. You know what I mean? Like, this is how you steward my favor in your life. As apparent as it is, as aware of it as you may be, as aware of it as your friends are, awareness isn't the same thing as gratitude. Awareness isn't the same thing as humility to me. Continue to pursue humility. I think that in our flesh, there's always going to be a tug for, for, for a pride, towards pride. a tug in our heart towards ego, or we want credit, or things like that. I think that that's just something like in our humanities that's just natural to us. I think that the more and more as I'm walking with God, it's like, okay, recognizing that
that is a natural lean in our humanity, but it just makes me to know like, okay, so humility isn't something you're going to drift to because you have to pursue this humility. You have to constantly be dying to your fleshly ways and things like that. In a practical sense, one of the things that I've really found myself feeling need to do is serving more, serving in different capacities, serving my wife, serving my home, serving in those ways that you don't necessarily get acknowledged for, serving in some very lowly ways. I don't know. That's what I feel like what God's placed on my heart, and to not look beyond what's right in front of you, as far as looking for something to serve, not looking beyond something as simple as making my wife coffee, or taking out the trash, emptying the dishwasher, or putting the clothes in the dryer, or folding up the clothes. I'm talking about a bunch of house tasks right now, but those are just some of the things that's in front of me, some of the low-hanging fruit, or whatever that may be. It's like, don't look beyond these lowly things for some greater opportunity to serve. Serve in these lowly spaces. That's pure, that's pure emotive. That's the selfless act that's required of you. But I don't know. I just felt led to share that with y'all. I don't know where you are in that space, or how aware you are of maybe some of the pride in your heart, or some of the ego that creeps up, or how aware you are of God's favor in your life, and what your response to that may look like. How aware you are of your need for His favor, or His grace, or maybe some of the opposition that you may be feeling from Him that you may not have been able to identify. What if that stems from this posture of pride, or this posture of ego, this lack of humility, in a sense. So I just wanted to tap in with y'all, man, and just share that. I'm still chewing on it, but it's something that I felt led to just confess, and when exposed myself, like, hey, this is something that I'm wrestling with.
But then also just to be an example as well. This is kind of what that looks like. This is what that confession and what that repentance looks like. So as always, take this in your one-on-one time with God. If there's something there, then you would ask Him, Lord, search my heart. Is there something hidden in the crevices that I'm not mindful of, that I'm not aware of? Whatever the case may be, take that to Him, and see what the Holy Spirit has to say to you. Yeah, have a blessed one. See y'all tomorrow.
