I am holding on to faith, cause I know you'll make a way, and I don't always understand, and I don't always get to see, but I will believe it, I will believe it. You make mountains move, you make giants fall, you use songs of praise to shake prison walls, and I'll look straight to my fear, I will preach to my doubt, if you were faithful then, you'll be faithful now. I'm standing on your word, and calling heaven down to earth, you will fight my enemies, this will end in victory,
I will believe it, yes I will believe it. You make mountains move, you make giants fall, you use songs of praise to shake prison walls, and I will look straight to my fear, I will preach to my doubt, if you were faithful then, you'll be faithful now. And I know that I know you'll never fail, Yes I know that I know you'll never will, And I know that I know you'll never will. Yes I know that I know you'll never will. You make mountains move. You make giants fall. You use songs of grace to shake prison walls. I will speak to my fear. I will preach to my doubt. You were faithful then. You'll be faithful now. You were faithful then. You'll be faithful now. I'm calling on the God of Jacob. The one who opened up the ocean. I know that you will keep your covenant. I'm calling on the God of Jacob. The one who opened up the ocean. I need you now to do the same thing for me. For me, for me, for me. Oh God, my God, I need you. Oh God, my God, I need you now. How I need you now. Oh rock, oh rock of ages, I'm standing on your faithfulness. On your faithfulness. I'm calling on the God of David. Born the rest upon the Lord. I need you now to do the same for me. How I need you now. Oh rock, oh rock of ages, I'm standing on your faithfulness. On your faithfulness. Oh God, my God, I need you. Oh God, my God, I need you now. How I need you now. Oh rock, oh rock of ages, I'm standing on your faithfulness. On your faithfulness. It's your faithfulness I'm standing on. It never changes. You heard your children and you hear your children now. You are the same God. You are the same God. You answered prayers back then and you will answer now. You are the same God. You are the same God. You were providing then, you are providing now. You are the same God. You are the same God. You moved in power then, God moved in power now. You are the same God. You are the same God. You were a healer then, you are a healer now. You are the same God. You are the same God. You were a savior then, you are a savior now. You are the same God. You are the same God. Oh God, my God, I need you. Oh God, my God, I need you now. How I need you now.
Oh rock, oh rock of ages, I'm standing on your faithfulness. On your faithfulness. Oh God, my God, I need you. Oh God, my God, I need you now. How I need you now. Oh rock, oh rock of ages, I'm standing on your faithfulness. God, it's your faithfulness. Oh it's your faithfulness. I'm standing on, oh God. Oh Jesus, Jesus, you're the same. Yesterday, today, and forever. You're the same God. You're the same God, this is who we worship tonight. Oh. Jesus, you're amazing. You're the same God, yesterday, today and forever. Jesus, you hurried the captives and you're freeing hearts right now. You are the same God. You are the same God. You touched the leopards and I feel your touch right now. You are the same God. You are the same God. Oh, Jesus, you're the same, you're the same, you're the same God. Oh, you're the same, you're the same, you're the same God. I'm calling on the God of Jacob. Almighty River, come and fill me again. Oh, come and fill me, come and fill me again. Come and fill me, come and fill me again. Jesus, thank you for your presence, God. Thank you for who you are, God. Thank you for being the same, God, today, yesterday, and forever, God. God, we don't have to worry, God, because you've already brought us this far, God. And you're going to keep bringing us through, God, because you are the same today, yesterday, and forever, Jesus. God, as your servant comes to share your word, I ask you to speak through him, Jesus, that your will be done.
In your name we pray, amen. Woo, come on, somebody. Hey, let's give it up for the Prancing Worship Team one more time. All right, guys, we can do a little bit better than that. Let's give it up for Jesus one more time. Woo, come on, somebody. Today, I got an honor and a privilege to be able to introduce our recovery pastor. And he don't need no introduction, but I just wanted to say hello to him and tell him how much I love him, how much he means to me. And thank you for being the man that you've been in my life, the father figure. I love you. Come on up here, amen. Hey, hello to all you guys in prison. This is Pastor Jeremy Graham. I love you. I love you. Thank you, man. Thank you. Amen. I'm going to tell you that as I was sitting back there, the Lord spoke to me. And there were some people that got into this altar. And when they got up, they're changed forever. Amen. Amen. You got changed. Praise the Lord. How's everybody doing tonight? Amen. You are my people. Amen.
Amen. Some of you may not know me. It's been a little while since I've spoke. But I'm the recovery pastor here at Rio Revolution. I'm Jeremy Graham. Amen. Hallelujah. And I tell you, that tells you the love that the church has for people in recovery, that they would have a recovery pastor. That tells you a little something about this church. You can always feel welcome here. Amen. Also, you know, of course, I have True Purpose Ministries. Those are my peeps over there. Amen. Amen. Praise the Lord. They're the loudest bunch. Amen. We're glad to have everybody. Tonight, I want to go ahead and get into it. Is that okay? I want to talk about the power of your words tonight. This is something that I just got to be honest with you. It is left out of a lot of recovery circles. Of course, we have so much to talk about when we talk about our recovery and recovery journey. I mean, we've got denial. We've got all the 12 steps, all the stuff making amends. We understand all that. All of that is 100% needful.
However, this is something right here that I have seen absolutely destroy tons and tons and tons of lives, but also has really made and transformed a lot, a lot, a lot of lives. Okay? For the good. And so, the power of words can be good, but also there is a bad power. Okay? So, I want to jump into this because I want us to understand. I need to talk about the spiritual emphasis on the word first. But I want to talk to us about, you know, the power of the words. been spoken over us. Now, I'm sure you've heard the old adage that says sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never. I don't know that I agree with that statement. Yeah, I don't know that I agree with that statement, okay? I think that has given a lot of people a license just to say whatever you want, just as long as you don't hit them, right? But I'm here to tell you, I can remember growing up, I had so many authority figures speak death over me. I can remember in fifth grade, my brother, he was about six years older than me, and he was in high school, and he would be what I would call a heathen today, okay? And my coach, my PE teacher, he was a coach at the high school, and he had my brother, and he pulled a group of us that had older brothers out. He pulled us out of the gym and got us in a circle, and he looked at every one of us and put his finger towards us, and he said, you all are going to be just like your older brothers. You're never going to amount to nothing. He said that to me, okay? And that was something right there that I remember hearing in that circle, and I was like, yeah, whatever. You know, whatever. You know, I just kind of shook it off. But do you know that after that, weeks after that, years after that, that voice would ring in my ear? You're never going to amount to nothing. You're never going to amount to nothing. You're never going to amount to nothing. And then there would be somebody else that, you know, later on that didn't even know that that was said, but they were moved by the enemy, and they would say, man, you're never going to amount to nothing. It was a reaffirming. Man, you're never going to amount to nothing. Reaffirming. And guess what? I started believing it. And as I started believing it, I just didn't care anymore. I lived life because I did not care, and I knew that I was never
going to amount to nothing. I received that as my identity. And so that's what words do. People can speak words, us and everybody else. We can speak words over each other, and those words will hang over you, and I'm going to get into that, but those words will hang over you to try to create something in your life. And so my first point here is that words have creative power. Words have creative power. We need to understand that they are creative. John 1, it says this in verse 1, in the beginning was the Word. Now, you notice it didn't say in the beginning was creation, in the beginning was a ship, in the beginning was the waters, in the beginning was the earth. No, it says this, in the beginning was the what? The Word. So that tells me that it's pretty impactful and pretty important. It's the foundation. John 1, he talks about this. He says, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made what? By Him, and of course it's talking about Jesus being the Word, and without Him was anything made that was made, okay? And so we understand that back in creation days, when there was creation that needed to be created, God said, let there be light. He spoke those words out, and as He spoke those words, what happened? Light. Light came, okay? I heard my spiritual father, he used to talk about, you know, it is impossible for God to lie. Yes, that's exactly right. But you know what he would say? He would say, if Stephen had a blue shirt on and God said that that shirt is red, it's impossible for him to lie because what's going to happen to his shirt once God says it's red? It's going to turn red, okay? That's why it's impossible because when he speaks, it happens, right? So words have creative power. That's one thing we have to understand as we move into this message is that words have creative power, okay? Now, if you have received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, whether you're a male or a female, you have now become a son and a daughter of God. And so you are a father of, or you are a son and a daughter of your father, which was a creator. He created things. And so his DNA is running through us. That DNA is inside of us, and so we have power that when we speak, y'all, I want you to understand, something happens. Next point, words empower spiritual entities, good or bad. Now, this may be a little bit up here, okay? But we got to preach it out a little bit. But when we say words empower spiritual entities, good or bad, I'm taking from Daniel, a very popular scripture. See, this is what happened with Daniel. Daniel started fasting on day one,
and he fasted, and he fasted for 21 days. And on the 21st day, Gabriel, I believe it was, if I'm not mistaken, came to him, and this is where he starts talking to him. But here in verse 12, he says, then said he unto me, fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you did set your heart to understand, which means the first day he started praying on this fast, he says, he says, chasing thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and listen to what he says, I came for your what? I came for your words. Previously, and I believe it's in chapter 9 and 10, you see that what happened is that he tells Daniel, he says, listen, I was basically dispatched when you started praying on day one, basically. But he says, the prince of Persia, battle me. And I battled him in the heavenlies and now here I am showing up. My question is, do we have that picture? Do we have that? My question is the question mark. What about one through 21? What was Daniel saying? Was he saying, Oh, God didn't hear me, man, I'm not going to get my answer, man. You know what, man? I don't even know why I'm fast. So, man, this don't work, man. Come on, man. I don't even, I don't even know why I'm doing any of this. Do you think he was saying that during the question? No, he was speaking and he continued to pray and he continued to pray and fast and he continued to speak those things that that God had him to speak. And eventually. Gabriel came and ministered unto him, my question would be is this. If he would have spoke nothing but death and he would have spoke bad and he would have spoke, say, man, this don't work, this, you know, this this is never going to work. What would have happened?
Do you think that would have given power to the principality of Prince of Persia? You know, that's the question that we all have to ask. There are demonic forces that are waiting to hear you speak things over somebody or over somebody else. And I'm telling you, those demonic forces will go and try to enforce those things that you speak. The Bible says that you are a king and priest if you know Jesus Christ. Man, when a king declares something, what happens? It gets done. And so we really got to watch our words, OK? This is the next point. Watch your mouth. I should have put it on. I should have I should have said M.O.U.F. Watch your mouth. This is what we all have to do. We have to watch our mouth, man. We have got to watch what we speak over ourselves. We got to watch what we speak over our children. We got to watch what we speak over our wife and our husbands. We got to watch what we speak over our friends. We've got to watch what we speak, because I'm telling you, our words are very, very powerful and they are very, very important. James chapter three, very important scripture. But it says this. Indeed, we all make many mistakes, for if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every way. So basically he's saying, man, when you can guard your mouth, man, I tell you, you have reached a place in God. That is one of the most difficult things that we have been able to do.
I used to have anger problems. Anybody have anger problem in here? Yeah, used to. Amen. I am recovering from anger. Amen. My wife, she's never seen that part of me. I'm perfect. She, all she sees is the perfect Jeremy, praise the Lord. No, she's seen it, but I would get angry. Now I used to have a really, really bad problem with anger, meaning that when I got angry, I lost control of myself. Okay. Lost control, said things that I didn't want to, did things that I didn't want to. I mean, man, it was bad. And so I really, I became a Christian. I started really saying, okay, God, what can I do to beat this? I got to beat this anger because it is ruining my life. I am hurting people that is close to me. I'm pushing people away. That's just trying to help me. What can I do? And he said, well, the first thing you need to do when you get angry is shut your mouth. He said, because the reason anger comes on you mostly is so that he can get control of your tongue. And if he gets control of your tongue, he can speak things over people and hurt people. And he says, you just need to shut your mouth. And so, you know what?
I started practicing that there'd be times I'd be on a, on a job site. And man, I would get so mad on that job site and I would go and without saying anything, I'd go to my boss, say, boss, would you mind if I just went and prayed for a little while? He was a Christian. He said, oh yeah, take five minutes. I go five minutes. I go out in the woods and I'd say, enemy, I rebuke you in Jesus name. I'm not receiving your anger. You better get off me right now in Jesus name. Right now I receive the peace. And man, it was like hot oil being poured all over me because I used my authority that God had given me and I tore, I tore that anger down and you know what? I was able to go back in and I had a smile on my face and I wasn't angry. Now I might had to do that 20 times a day, but guess what? The next day I only had to do it 15, you know, that's what we got to do. We got to start somewhere. We got to understand that these words, man, we got to be able to tame this tongue. Then it says this in verse three, we can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in his mouth and a small rotor makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. So listen to this, that's that big old ship has that small little helm. I know that everybody's seen a helm in here. It's one of those wooden things like a sailboat that you would go this and it has a fin in the back. And so that big, huge ship can be turned way to the left and way to the right, just by that little bitty helm back there. Our whole life and life's around us can absolutely be turned one way if we don't watch it by the words that we speak out of our mouth.
Very important for us to guard our mouth in the same way the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches, but a tiny spark can set a great force to fire. Remember when I told you that guy spoke over? me in that circle, that was a small little spark. He spoke it over me and it was a spark and it landed on me. I was like, oh man, I don't believe that. I'll amount to something. But then over the period of time, it got bigger and it got bigger and it became a fire in me and it became a fire on me. And it got to the place where I truly believed that I was never going to amount to anything. We've gotta watch our words, everybody. All right, next point. We're gonna go ahead and skip the last part if it's okay. Next point, words shape us and others. Words shape us and others. I'm gonna go to Romans 12, verse two. It says this, and be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. Okay, so I say this a lot, I've talked about this a lot. I'm sure you've heard me even say it here at CR. And I know my men have. Man, they probably get tired of me saying it. But it says this, it says be not conformed to this world. This world conformed basically means to mold. I almost brought some Play-Doh. My daughters have some Play-Doh.
I almost brought it up here, but I knew I probably wouldn't have time to make something, okay? But that Play-Doh is just like a lump of clay. But that Play-Doh, I can get that. If they were to bring that Play-Doh to me and say, Daddy, would you make me a horse? I would have to have a vision in my head to get this Play-Doh and start making it into a horse and give that back to them. And this is the same concept that it's talking about right here in verse two, is that you cannot be conformed to this age and this generation and this culture. You cannot be formed because what the enemy wants to do is the enemy wants to tell you to be somebody that you're not. See, God has this destiny and this purpose that he has for you. And it's basically one big blueprint for your life. And that blueprint is there for you that you're gonna do this, you're gonna do that, you're gonna achieve this, you're gonna achieve that, you're gonna preach the gospel here, do this, all this kind of stuff, has all of this stuff that he has for you to do. But don't you know that the enemy has a blueprint for your life as well? And it's mainly three things, steal, kill, and destroy. That's exactly what he wants to do.
And so what does he do? He doesn't want you to perform God's will. He doesn't want you to be who God's called you to be. So what he wants you to do is he wants to conform you like a lump of Play-Doh and say, well, this is who you are. This is who, you're streets, man, you're this gang. You've gotta act this way, you've gotta talk this way, you've gotta be this way, you've gotta be hard, you've gotta be, do all this stuff. And that is what he wants to do is he wants to conform you that way. And I'm telling you, words can conform. I have seen parents lose it on their kids over and over and over. And they speak death and death and death over their children over and over and over. All of us have done that, I'm sure. All of us have said things that we just should not have. We've got to start guarding our mouth because I'm telling you, their whole destiny can depend on what you speak. We've gotta watch what we speak, everybody. Words can shape others' destiny. Words can shape others and what they become because they have power. Lastly, I'm doing good, self-inventory. This is where I wanna spend some time here. Self-inventory, of course, is an understanding in the 12 steps, but I want us to start kinda looking at ourselves
as I bring this home. When we talk about words, just like I told you about that gym teacher that pulled me out and put me in a circle, I had, at one point of my life, I had to deal with that, okay? Because when I didn't deal with it, it was something that kept trying to produce death in my life, meaning I would try to be better. I would try to just achieve this job. I would try to keep this job. I would try to make money. I'd try to be successful, but those words hanging over me, you're never gonna amount to nothing, you're never gonna amount to nothing, they just hung over me. Every time I made a mistake, you're never gonna amount to nothing. You're dumb, you're stupid. All of this stuff would just keep ringing over me, okay? And so what I had to do was I had to do some self-inventory and I had to sit down with a piece of paper and a pen and I had to go back into my Rolodex of my mind and I had to say, you know what? I'm gonna write down everything that anybody ever spoke over me. And buddy, it was a list.
You're dumb, you're stupid, you're fat. You're never gonna do this. You're never, I mean, it was a list. You're an addict, you're an alcoholic. I guess you can realize now why we don't ask you to come in here and say, hello, I'm Jeremy and I'm an alcoholic. I guess you can realize that now. I'm not saying anything bad about the other groups that do. I'm not, okay? They have their place. But I'm saying we can't speak that over you. We don't want you to speak that over yourself. 23 7 says for as he thinketh in his heart so is he. I don't want you to keep professing over your life that I am an addict and I am an alcoholic because you will believe it one day. I want you to speak good over your life. I am NOT an addict. I am NOT an alcoholic. You're not lying to yourself everybody. Do you know that? There are people in the recovery journeys that says you're lying to yourself if you say that. No you're not. You are calling things that are not as though they were right now but you know what? You're gonna see it. You got to start believing it. You got to start speaking those things over you that are good and joy and peace and love. I mean you got to you got to speak all those things over you so those things can start take root inside of you. That's the power of the words. So we've got to do self inventory. We've got to allow the Lord to show you all the words that are spoken over you. Now I want you to look at all these all these people. I think I put it on here. Yeah okay. We've got parents. I want you to go back. I'm sure some of our parents weren't exactly the best people in the world. Maybe they were. Maybe they had an anger problem. Whatever. I want you to go back and I want you to look at the things that have been spoken over you by their parents. Okay. Siblings, brothers and sisters, extended family.
Okay. Aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, even judicial systems. Do you know that? Do you know that even they can profess things over you? Judicial systems. I'm sure we all have been a part of that. Okay. I'm not saying anything bad about judicial system law enforcement but man I'm telling you whenever there's anger involved people say things that they don't mean. Okay. That's just part of it. Teachers. I had a lot of teachers say a lot of bad things over me. Now I wasn't telling you that I was the perfect student. I just but got to be honest with you. I was an awful student. I mean they could have expelled me. I actually did get expelled one time. They could expel me I don't know how a hundred times but I had teachers speaking things over me all the time. Spouses and relationships. Okay. This is a big one. Have you ever noticed that you get in a fight with your girlfriend or your boyfriend or your husband or your wife? Have you ever noticed when you get in a fight and you start getting anger you start losing control and you say things to them that you really wish that you could take back? Once you say it it's very hard to recover that because you've said it. Okay. We've got to watch that because what happens is that when we start to get angry we start really cutting each other with those words and with the tongue and some of those things when are most those things that we say of course in anger it can go and really hurt the individual. We've got to make sure that you know what we just got to be quiet. That's why I'm a big proponent that when you have a fight with your girlfriend or boyfriend or husband and wife and it starts to get heated you know what the best thing to do is hey can we pray? Can we just pray right now? This is really getting out of hand. Can we just pray? The Bible says where envy and strife is there is confusion and every evil work. So whenever we as a spouse let envy and strife come in then we are also allowing confusion and every evil work to come in with it. That's what the Bible says. And so what if we stopped and prayed? What if we just took a break? We say okay you know what I'm getting a little angry I need to take a break. Can I go outside and work in the yard for a moment? Can we go and you know can I go and listen to praise and worship music? Whatever we need to do but don't let the
enemy have your tongue. And then lastly doctors, medical, clinical professionals, bosses, and self. Okay so this is the scripture and I'm gonna leave you with this. I'm out of time but listen Isaiah 54 17. A lot of people doesn't really understand this scripture and it's a very very very powerful scripture. A lot of people simply just quote the first part right here. They say hey man don't you know brother no weapon is formed against you shall prosper? And that's exactly right. Exactly right. No weapon is formed against you shall prosper. God will protect you. Amen? But then what about the last part? And every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment. Does it say God condemns? You condemn. This is why I want you to write down on a piece of paper everything that has been spoken over you bad. I want you to write those down and I want you to say okay now father right now in Jesus name I am praying Isaiah 54 17 over this whole list. And I am proclaiming a decree and right now that no weapon is formed against me shall prosper. And every tongue on this paper that has spoken against me in judgment that I'm worthless, that I'm never gonna amount to nothing, that I'm an addict, that I'm an alcoholic, that I'm this, I'm that, I'm this, I'm that. Right now I condemn right now in Jesus name. I condemn them. You know what condemn means? Bringing them down. Where they do not hang over you anymore. Those words are judged by the Almighty God when you profess out of your mouth that you condemn those things. And those things do not have to hang over you. There was one time, I'm closing with this, I'm done, I'm serious. There was one time that I was, it wasn't really a relationship, but it was a misconceived relationship. I think, you know, it was just a misunderstanding and the girl really just said some horrible, horrible things to me. I mean, by the time I got off the phone with her and I was saved, by the time I got off the phone with her, I was like, wow, man, what do I do? I mean, I really felt like, I felt this tall. I mean, man, that was probably one of the only times that I felt really like using or
going to get a drink. And man, I'll tell you, I really struggled with it. And all of that, just all of that, I was hearing all the words, those words were just weighing on me. It literally was like a depression of just pushing down on me. And I said, God, what do I do? And I heard his still small voice. And it was so powerful to me and it really saved my life. He says, condemn those words. And so I went one by one after that conversation on that phone and I condemned this and I condemned this and I condemned this. And I'm honest when I say this. Every time I condemned one, it was like it was a sheet taken off and a sheet taken off and a sheet taken off and a sheet taken off until I was totally light. There's a black cloud. There's a black cloud that can hang over you and those come from words. There are assignments that the enemy wants to place over you to form you and to still kill and destroy your destiny. Condemn those words. Speak life over yourself and allow God to bring your destiny. Love y'all. Woo, that was a good word, y'all. So really quick, I want to make a, and first of all, I want to thank Pastor Jeremy, one being our recovery pastor, and that he is so faithful to minister us. How many of y'all are so thankful that he still takes the time to minister to us? He's a busy man. So thank you very much. Before we close out in prayer, I want to say really quick, next week, Katie Hawk will be teaching, and you know it's always going to be good. But she is actually going to do a series starting next week.
If you're interested in learning how to share your testimony, starting next week, we're going to have a small group. We're going to do a four-week series on that. So plan on attending next week. Amen? Okay, I know there are more than just two of us that want to share our testimony. Come on now. Right? Yes? Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. All right. So with that being said, if we would all please stand. All rise. Right. And so together, we start with God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as a pathway to peace, taking as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it, trusting that you will make all things right if I surrender to your will so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with you forever in the next. Amen. Amen. I want to talk to our online community, our brothers and sisters in Christ in the facilities. Please join us next week. That's going to be a good word next week.
So really quick, if you don't have a home church, we'd love to invite you. Great services here on Sunday mornings.
