And so basically what they were doing, they were in Cincinnati doing street evangelism in the hood, wherever. They went out and 49 people, they won to the Lord on the streets of Cincinnati. 49 people came to Christ. and Pastor Grant shared with me that there were four healings that happened on the streets as well and so I'm so grateful for that so grateful for our youth that's out there doing the work and all the leaders amazing team and so I was talking to a couple young guys earlier who had never led anyone to the
Lord and they were on the trip they had the opportunity of leading someone to the Lord up in Cincinnati and they're fired up it's like man I'm ready to go I said where you going next they said we're going to Alcoa I think in two weeks they're going to Sandy Springs on Tuesday he said so there you go and then Alcoa so I'm gonna tell you winning people to the Lord is contagious I mean it really is you win somebody the Lord and you you just got to do it again and again and again and and so but really there's three things that this church stands on and we really focus on it's preaching the gospel making disciples and serving our community and as you give as you show your generosity and bring your ties and your gifts into the storehouse it allows us to do that it'll it allows us to go out and share the gospel not just in the streets and in Cincinnati or Sandy Springs or Alcoa but also online we have 888 correctional facilities right now watching us come on let's give it up for all those guys we're so grateful for each one of you that are watching and and I don't think it's a coincidence but while the team was in Cincinnati they ran into a guy on the streets who had just been released from prison and the youth ran into him we have a video I want you to check this video out guys go ahead hey this is Joel Wilson we met him on a street in Cincinnati Ohio called short vine he wanted to worship so we came into some random music shop and asked if we could borrow a guitar and they gave us a room and as we got to talking to him he just got out of jail today and he was watching yeah revolution services while he was in there from all the way back in East Tennessee so thank you revolution for everything you guys are doing because we got to meet somebody who you guys are touching thank you so much you know the the impact the impact is is indescribable the tens of thousands I remember for several years before Kovac I stood before the church and I said one day we're gonna be in Blount County Jail you remember and I talked about it for a couple years and it's like they're gonna get tired of me saying that one day and I'd met with the sheriff we talked about it Terry we met with the IT department trying to figure out if it was possible doable and then I'll never forget the
day that we went live Blount County Correctional Facility here we are preaching to the people that are in prison here look and and the reason we do that is because Jesus told us he said that when we stand before him when we stand before the Lord he's gonna say when I was in prison you visited me and and so now we're able to do that so the door opened in Blount County and it's like come on guys we got it do you remember the first service that Blount County was opened up and I was able to look in the cameras and welcome our brand-new campus of about 500 people it's called the Blount County Correctional Facility and it had such an impact in Blount County the sheriff he said that the people are listening to the worship throughout the week they're loving it it's changed the atmosphere in the Blount County Jail and so then the doors opened for Monroe County the sheriff in Blount County talked to the sheriff in Monroe County and he said okay if it's working for you we'll open that door so we went into Monroe and then from there it was Sevier County to in Sevier County Loudoun County and and and so it started there but today for it to be 888 prisons and jails across America it's a God thing amen and it's true lives are being changed this guy Joel here that they just met they said oh I know pastor Pacer as a matter of fact I'm coming to Revolution Church as soon as I can get her get down there another quick story a fellow who had been in prison and I didn't know him but he had been in prison and his his charges were sexually related to minors and and he can't come to this this church this church has kids and it has a school but he said I know I can't come there I just got the feedback on it I know I can't come there but tell pastor Pacer that I watch him every Sunday morning and he is my pastor I mean that's the the impact of the ministry and that you guys are doing so you're you're changing lives by your giving your generosity it's making a difference you know really giving is a heart condition You know Jesus Jesus talked a lot about giving as a matter of fact. We know the presence of the Lord is here Well, good morning Revolution Church Amen another day to worship together. It's always an opportunity and it's always a privilege I'm gonna take just a second share a quick story This is not part of my notes, but I just really feel like I'm supposed to Several months ago. I got a phone call one day here at the office and it was a lady from Mississippi I believe it was and she was asking questions about our church She said she'd watched a few of our sermons and our services online
Sermons and our services online because her son who was incarcerated and had been most of his adult life at age 45 Were watching watching us on the tablets. And she was asking all these questions, and she was talking about her daughter who was not incarcerated, but had had several drug-related problems for years. And she said, I'm trying to get her to watch. She said, by the way, where are you all located? And I said, well, we're just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee and in East Tennessee. And she went, no. Yeah, we didn't just move here. But come to find out, her daughter with the drug problem was in Knoxville that day. And she wound up coming in for counseling. And me and one of the ladies on staff met with her. The woman's daughter got saved as a result of it. Amen? I mean, who could make that up? Mama's in Mississippi. The brother's incarcerated somewhere. Anyways, I just wanted to share that. So thank you again for your giving. All of those of you that are incarcerated, we want to welcome you today. Anybody online, obviously, if you're here, we want to welcome you. OK? If you don't know who I am, my name's Brian Crisp.
I'm Pastor Brian. I get to serve the church here at Revolution as the staff and community pastor. Do a lot of different things. Work with a lot of different areas. I work a lot with the computer systems and maintaining those and the operations of the building. A lot of the volunteer ministries I'm involved in. I also do a lot of counseling. OK? So I'm a life coach, a mentor. I call it another level, another version of discipleship a lot of times. OK? And so I get to spend a lot of one-on-one time with folks in most weeks. And then I work with a group of people who are also those biblical pastoral counselors. I work with the prayer team. So that just kind of gives you an idea of who I am and what I spend most of my days doing. OK? I do want to say about baptism that was on the announcements. I was texting with Sabrina that runs their bookings and everything. And she sent me a video of the river and said, I don't think it's a good day. The water was up to the banks. And so instead of losing somebody downriver, we'll reschedule that for a different date.
OK? So we're going to have it out on social media if it's not already out there just to let everybody know. So no baptism at the river today. OK? Talking about baptism and the first two services, the gentleman was here. And I don't know if y'all know Big Jared Allman that's with our special needs adults. OK? He's sung up here and done different things. But he had been working for over a year to be baptized. OK? And you'll figure that out in just a second. This past Thursday, I got to go up to Mark and Missy Herons. All the adults were up there. And it was time for Jared to be baptized. He was finally ready. So we got him in the pool. Folks, it took five of us to baptize him. OK? So this was no easy undertaking. But anyways, he came up out of the water, shouting, lifting his hands, praising the Lord, had just a great time. And that was absolutely wonderful to get to be a part of that. But then what happened next? OK? So we get him out of the pool.
And he goes over and sits down in the chair. And he's sitting there with a great big grin on that face of his. And just, I mean, just smiling. And he looked over at me and he made eye contact. And he said, I did it. I did it. I overcame my fear and I got baptized. Man, what a blessing. What you don't know is the reason he'd been working for over a year to be baptized is because he has a fear of water. I overcame my fear and I got baptized was his victory statement. So that was a precious moment. Amen. Clap and praise the Lord for that one. OK? All right. So moving on, I get to do part of Ephesians chapter 4 and part of Ephesians chapter 5. Pastor did part of each last week and talking about some stuff. And so I get to do the other parts, OK? So we've got a lot of ground to cover. So strap on your seat belt. We're going to move kind of quick, OK? But we're going to start in Ephesians 4.16. Paul says, he, meaning God, makes the whole body fit together perfectly.
As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow so that the whole body is healthy, growing, and full of love. That is God's plan for the body of Christ, to be healthy and growing and full of love, to be in unity. That is his plan. That is his design. And so as we go through some of this today, kind of keep that in the back of your mind. God's plan is for us all to be moving and growing together. And we'll look at some issues and some things here in a minute, OK? But that unity and the body fitting together. It's kind of our foundation for some stuff. But if you go to Ephesians 4, 17 through 19, Paul continues, and he says it this way. With the Lord's authority, I say this, okay? And so, Paul's saying, this is not my opinion. This is not just what I believe. I'm speaking under the Lord's authority here, and I'm going to address some issues, okay? The reason I wanted to make sure and point that out is because when Pastor told me what I was going to be preaching on, I went, oh boy, I get to preach on sin, okay? And so, here we are, all right? So, by the Lord's authority, I say these things, okay? So, as we say, don't shoot the messenger, right? But, no, I'm teasing a little bit, but with the Lord's authority, I say this.
Live no longer as Gentiles or unbelievers do, for they are hopelessly confused. Their minds are full of darkness. They wander far from the life God gives them because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity. Well, with the Lord's authority, Paul is saying, they've closed their minds and hardened their hearts against God. And if that's where you find yourself today as I go through this sermon, I want you to know there's hope at the end, okay? A lot of times, I tell people, there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it's not a train, okay? So, just bear with, we got some things to look at today, but with the Lord's authority, I say these things. Ephesians 4, 20 and 21. But that is not what you have learned about Christ since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him. And it goes from there into the old man and the new man, okay? So, what we've learned from Christ is not the old way, we're to learn a new way, okay? You move to verses 22 through 24. Paul says, throw off the old sinful nature
and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes, put on the new nature created to be like God, truly righteous and holy. So, Paul's saying here, basically, I have a responsibility to make the decision. It's on me to make the decisions, whether I'm gonna live as the old man or I'm gonna live as the new man. So, as point of salvation, we say that the old man passes away and behold, everything becomes new. Paul is saying here, we have a decision to make literally daily if we're going to walk in that new path or if we're gonna continue some of the things that we've been dragging around for years, okay? So, to be more like God in our thoughts and our attitudes, throwing off the old man, okay? James 4, 7, in the last part of that verse, I'm gonna relate to this, submit or humble yourselves before God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. We have to make the decision though, we have to resist, okay? It don't just happen, we have to take a stand, we have to take a step, we have to do something. My thoughts and my attitudes need to be renewed daily. I have found out over the years, folks, that there's two things I can control,
my thoughts and my attitudes. I cannot control yours, I cannot control your opinions, I cannot control what my boss does, not this boss, your old boss, okay? Just wanna make sure and clarify that, okay? I can't control what people do around me and the decisions they make, but I can control my attitude and my thoughts about those things. I can be very negative, I can slander, I can have harsh words, we'll look at that in a second. I can do all kinds of stuff and keep dragging this thing along for the next 20 years, or I can separate myself from it by my decisions today, throw the old man off and seek out that new nature. I cannot control the wind, I cannot control the weather, but I can control my thoughts and attitudes. Ephesians 4.30, and do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, sealed into the day of redemption. Do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit. The things that we do, the things that we say, the places that we go, all of those things can bring sorrow to the Holy Spirit if we're doing the wrong things, okay? I tell people a lot of times, if I'm studying the Word of God, I'm doing some private worship
and I'm spending some time in prayer. I'm doing the things I know to do. And because I'm doing those things, I can expect God to show me the way. I can expect wisdom and revelation. I can expect knowledge and understanding. I can expect to walk in a newness of life and not keep dragging the old man along with me every step that I go. I can find a new and better path. Do not bring sorrow to the Holy Spirit. He has identified you. You are a child of the most high God. Think about that. The creator of the universe, he made everything, but he still listens to every prayer you utter. Boy, sometimes that just overwhelms me to think I have the privilege of standing before the very throne of almighty God and making my little requests known. What a privilege and what an honor. There's things, though, that we need to change, okay? In Ephesians 4, 31 and 32. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, slander, and all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God, through Jesus Christ, has forgiven you. Throw off the old man.
Walk in the newness. Accept that new nature. Move toward that new nature. All of these things that Paul just mentioned right there are related to our thoughts and our attitudes, the words that come out of our mouth. If you don't believe me, think about unforgiveness for a minute. Your unforgiveness does not keep somebody else in prison. They're not paying the price for that. You're the one bound up in unforgiveness. They're not. So you need to take that thing and go, and throw it off of you and get rid of it and move on, okay? Unforgiveness, forgiving one another, and being tenderhearted toward one another. Those are the things that God is looking for in his family, in his people, and he's going to respect and honor those things when we do them. So all these being related to our words, if you don't believe me, think about the bitterness for just a second, because unforgiveness will lead to bitterness, a root of bitterness, and it's called a root of bitterness in the Bible for a reason, because there's so many things that grow out of it, and what Paul's saying here is rage, anger, slander, harsh words,
all of those things grow out of bitterness. So if you're walking in unforgiveness, be careful that you don't move into bitterness, because now you've got a bigger problem, okay? Anyways, we let our anger and rage, all these things come out in our words. James said, out of the mouth, the heart speaks. So if you're releasing all that stuff, what's in the heart? Maybe it's time for a decision, maybe it's a time for change, okay? What's our definition? People say, well, the definition of insanity and craziness is doing the same thing over and over and over and over again and expecting a different result. It's time to make a decision and try something new. You've been dragging this thing for a long time. It's time to cut it off and cast it aside and move forward into the things of God and learn to walk in grace and mercy and peace and joy and love and happiness and all the other promises of God, but you gotta get rid of that thing first. Amen. Pacer mentioned it last week or the week before, one of the verses that we've covered already literally means put up with one another. Yeah, put up with one, that's how we'd say it in East Tennessee. Well, just put up with them
because they're here for a while, okay? And so as we deal with one another, forgiving one another, as we deal with one another, forgiving one another, putting up with one another, being tenderhearted with one another, that's what brings unity in the body. That's what brings on those blessings of God that we want to walk in. Romans 12, three, you should not think more highly of yourself than you should. Ouch. But just to prove the point that that's not the only place, Philippians two, verses three and four, do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, rather in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interest, but each of you to the interest of others. Folks, you need to hear today, you matter. You matter in the kingdom of God. You matter in this church. You matter to our pastor. You matter to your brothers and sisters. Your pain, your agony, whatever it is that you bring to the party, it's important, it matters, but it doesn't matter more than everybody else's. That's kind of hard to say, okay, but you got to put other people first.
Forgive, to be forgiven, is another Bible verse, okay? There's a whole multitude of examples. So for us to lay down our own interest, our own well-being on behalf of others is called Christian love. Amen? All right. Amen. Thank you, Carrie. All right, so now we're gonna go to chapter five. And some of you are thinking, how do we get off the sin issue? Well, think again, okay? We get to do more. So, Ephesians chapter five, verses three and five, and I'm just gonna paraphrase these real quick, okay? Physical and moral impurity. Y'all know what that means, okay? Greed and idolatry. None of these have any inheritance in the kingdom of God and Christ. Strong words, remember what Paul said, I speak on the authority of the Lord, okay? Strong words, but if you're living that life, if you're living the impurity and the moral, if you're living that and you're living greed and it's all about the money and it's all about my, my, my, I, me, my, mine, okay? If you start a sentence with any of those, you probably missed the mark.
Because it's selfish, it's always about you, okay? So as we go forward, though, okay? We need to lay aside these things so that we do have the inheritance that comes from the kingdom of God, as a child of Christ, child of God. Ephesians five, six says, do not be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins. You ever had anybody say, well, that's just the way God made me, you're gonna have to deal with it. Okay, wrong again, okay? By the power of God, if you submit yourself, he can change anything. He can change anything in you, through you, about you, around you, or any other way I can say that. God is in the business of change. He is in the business of creating new. That's why he's saying, put on the new creation. Put on the new nature. He is creating you, new and fresh, every day of your life, if you're listening. We are experts at justifying our own sins. Ouch, okay? Y'all know what I'm talking about. I probably don't need to explain it, okay? People can justify, well, I just, my anger made me, or my, and it's, come on, folks, it's time to make a decision. It's time to lay the old man down, to throw him off. That's our responsibility, is to step away from that stuff.
Let's talk about the difference in light and darkness for a second. Ephesians 5, eight through 13, I'll read 12 in just a second, but this is five, eight through 13. For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord, and you live as people of light. For this light within you produces only what is good, right, and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord, for the light makes everything visible. Being children of light, what does that mean? That means letting the love of Christ, letting that peace and joy that comes to us as children of God, let that speak to the people around us, not rage and anger and bitterness and griping and complaining, okay? It's time to watch, people, honestly, as a born again child of God, most of the time, our own worst enemy is right under our nose. I'm using it right now to communicate with you, okay? The things that we say, the things that we allow to come out of our mouth will make you or break you in a lot of situations, okay? Try a little gratitude, try a little thankfulness, instead of griping and complaining. If nothing else, it'll make you feel better, okay? Ephesians 5, 12, it is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. I really kind of struggle whether or not
to bring this one up, okay? But I'm gonna say it, the things that we watch on social media, the things we watch on TV, the things that we see on the news is so much of stuff we don't need to be watching, we don't need to be communicating, we don't need to be letting in our homes, we don't need to be letting it in our minds because it is not godly, it is not pure, it is not good. It is not healthy, it is not positive, and it is not freeing. We hear so much about all the stuff that people do. Keep it to yourself. I don't need to know that. Now, if we're in counseling, there's a time and a place, yes, but just all over Facebook, whatever it is, okay? Okay, I'm gonna move on, okay? Before somebody throws something. Now, living by the Spirit's power, Ephesians 5, 15 through 18, okay? So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, okay? And so, here's what I wanna say about that. I've been doing this a minute, okay? And I've never heard anybody give a testimony,
and I'm gonna use a couple of different things here, okay? So I'm not just picking on somebody, but I've never heard anybody give a testimony that said, the devil, the enemy came to me and said, try one drink of alcohol, just one drink, and it will lead to your downfall. It will ruin your family. You'll lose every decent job you ever had. You may lose your home. You may wind up living under a bridge somewhere, but go ahead and try one drink. It won't hurt you. That's not what he does. He comes to you and says, try one little drink. That way you can tell everybody, yeah, I tried it once. Yeah. It won't hurt anything. So you have to be careful what you give into, what decisions you make. So be careful to understand the guidelines and what God desires for our lives. It's not just alcohol. Hey, that one little pill won't hurt you. Try that. It'll make you feel good for a few minutes. It doesn't go on to say, and you'll wind up down there somewhere, okay? Okay, if that's not good enough for you, let's try this one for a second. A little friendly flirting.
Ooh, try that one out and see where it gets you, because the enemy should tell you that may completely dissolve your marriage because you did a little innocent flirting, okay? We can go on down the list if you want to for a minute, okay, but I'm betting we need to move on, okay? So, by the way, being filled with the spirit there, I looked it up just to see, that word means to level up and complete. So being filled with the spirit means to level up on a regular basis, complete the next step, take that next part and move on it, grow into that next part, but level up and complete or accomplish is what he means by being filled with the spirit there. Being filled with the spirit, Ephesians 5, 19 through 20. Singing psalms and having celebrations among yourselves and making music to the Lord in your hearts and give thanks for everything to God, the Father in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. To be filled with the spirit, that's what it could look like, is that we're constantly singing songs of praise and worship. We're having celebrations because God is so good to us and he's moving in our life and we're seeing people's lives changed. We get to celebrate all of those things. We get to be a part and in making music and having these great,
that's what it means to be filled with the Holy Spirit. That's what it can look like. I wanna go back though and take a quick look because what Paul's building on here is the earlier chapters of Ephesians and he's already given us a couple of very specific things, what it means to be filled with the spirit. So as I go back and look, I wanna go to Ephesians 1, 19. I pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him at the right hand of Almighty God. As a child of God, that's the power that lives in me through the power of the Holy Spirit is the same power that drew Jesus Christ out of the grave lives in here. That's a promise from God's word. Now I always try to give a second or a balancing just to make sure we're not taking something out of context. Okay, Ephesians 3, 20. I bet y'all know that verse. So you have two verses there to stand on where Jesus, where God is saying, we're going to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us. So you have two verses there to stand on I have already put in you everything you need to win and to see this thing through.
where Jesus, where God is saying. I've given you every privilege, I've given you every level of authority, I've given you everything you need to throw that old man off, walk away from that garbage and become a new creation every single day and level up to a point of completeness. Throwing off the old nature, let's take a couple of very practical examples because I'm going to combine those two verses now with Matthew chapter 16 and Matthew chapter 18. You can go look it up, okay? One of the two, I think it's in 16, it starts out with this, Behold I give you keys of the kingdom. If he gives you a key, does he expect you to use it? Okay, think about that one for a second. But what it says, he goes on to say that whatever you bind on earth is bound in heaven, whatever you release on earth is released in heaven. Now I've heard that talk for years, that that's spiritual warfare, binding the enemy and praise God, yes, I understand that, okay? But let's try to make it a little more personal. How about binding the own garbage that's come out of your own mouth concerning you and your family? How about binding that stuff up, breaking the power of those words that you've released for years? Quit dragging that old man with you and break that cycle and get rid of the old man, cast him off and start releasing the promises of God. How about Galatians chapter 5, the first three fruits of the Holy Spirit, love, joy, peace. I'm going to bind anger off of my life in the name of Jesus and I'm going to release love, joy and peace. I'm going to get rid of unforgiveness in my life and I'm going to love people regardless of what they've said or done to me and I'm going to move forward and beyond whatever that was that's hindered me now for 25 years, I'm kicking it to the curb and I'm moving on. In the name of Jesus, I have the power and the authority to throw off anger by the power God has already put in me as His child.
I can throw off bitterness by the power of God that works in me. I throw off my old attitudes and unforgiveness. I release the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians chapter 5. It is transition time, ladies and gentlemen. It's time to make a decision. You have an opportunity today to kick that old thing and throw it off and move forward into a new nature, a new creation in Christ Jesus from whatever it is. I could pick examples all day long. It's time to make a decision. You have a responsibility. You need to take a stand. You need to level up. We all do. Amen? So as we wrap up today, first, if you've never been saved, today would be the most wonderful day to make that decision and kick the old man to the curb and throw him off and accept that new creation and trust Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Today you have the opportunity to do that. You also have the opportunity to make a decision to throw off the anger and the bitterness and the other sin, the immoral sin and all that we kind of talked about. You can throw that stuff to the side today and make a decision. I want more of God. I want more of the power of the Holy Spirit. I want that new creation to come to life in me. I want to take that next step. I want to complete. I want to level up. Whatever the term is, I don't care what you say, but just move forward. You have a decision today. So I'm going to say this.
As a child of God, I am not a victim. I'm not a victim of my family. I'm not a victim of where I live. I'm not a victim of society. I'm not a victim of the government. I'm not a victim. I am not a victim. I am a child of God. I am not a victim. He didn't put me on this earth to just barely survive it and to slide on through and barely make it out the other side. I'm more than a survivor, ladies and gentlemen. I'm a child of the Most High God. I am an overcomer. I am more than a conqueror. And I can do these things by the power of God that He's put in me. So either way today, if you're at the point of salvation, or you need to throw the old man off and step forward, either way, today is the first day of the rest of your life if you'll make that decision. You can walk out of here a new You and different person today that people will start to see you at work and go what happened to that guy Okay, so you have a decision to make today prayer team I want y'all to come on up We have one more song during that song you have an opportunity Word says we're to agree as touching anything. So if you want to come pray with one of these fine folks They'll be more than glad to pray for you for healing or whatever. The situation is Okay, we this team spends time every week in our individual prayer times praying over these services and how we pray for people So today you have an opportunity to make a decision come up here and and pray with somebody We're to agree is touching anything and get and move forward. Okay? I want to give us just a quick prayer and then we'll we'll sing father in the name of Jesus We thank you. We praise you. We give you all glory and honor father.
