Good morning, men and women, such an honor to be able to come to you again from White Fellowship Church here in McKinney, Texas onto your tablet and whatever facility that you're at across the country. It's our honor and privilege and it's really a blessing to be able to speak into your life. My name is Logan Williams. My TDC number was 1490218. I have four numbers after that, round and round in the system, couldn't get off drugs, couldn't stop getting busted, couldn't stop going to jail and to prison and man, I just had a radical experience with Jesus and he just snatched me out of that. It's just like the Psalms say, he pulled me from the miry clay and set my feet on a rock. Now I had to do a lot of work to get there and stay there, but he did the heavy lifting. He's just looking for our yes and if you can give him your yes, anything is possible and I really, really want you to believe that. Hey, listen, we're want you to tell your friends and family to download the same Pando app on their phone that you have. Y'all can watch the same messages, the same teachings. You can talk about it together and you can do this walk together even though you're behind the wire and they're in the free, you can still walk with your family. You can still speak into their lives. You can still pray for them. You can still ask, Hey, what did you get out of that sermon? The same one I watched. These are really, really, really good conversations to have with your spouse and your, and your, your children. So please don't buy the lie that you can't leave your family because you're, you're incarcerated. That's just not true. It's just not true. All right. We absolutely want you to send us letters. We absolutely want to walk alongside you. We have a team of volunteers that responds and is mentors and, and, and this type of thing. We have women for women and we have men for men. Okay. We're not ever going to have a woman respond to a man and we're never ever going to have a man respond to a woman. So if you're writing the women here, the worship team, the other pastors or anybody that you see or happen to write, maybe a speaker that you really liked what they said, it's fruitless because we've just had too much trouble with opposite sex engaging and there's a policy at our church now. It's men on men, women on women. I just wanted to let you know that in case you were thinking about doing something like that, just don't even bother because they're not going to get the letter. Okay. It's gotta be a man to a man, woman to a woman. And we want to walk alongside you and we absolutely want to answer your questions, pray for you and respond and, and let you have that mentorship, uh, where you're at. It just has to be the right heart and the right motives. All right, man, this morning I was, I was reading in John chapter two and you know, that's, it begins with Jesus's first miracle and I just kind of read through that miracle story and, and got a few downloads that I'd like to share with you. Um, some things that I hadn't really noticed. I'm just going to read, uh, the, the, the verses first and then we can kind of go through them really quickly. Um, because I know you're, you're ready for the message and we want you to have the message. It's a really good message this week. So first one says the next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Canaan near in Galilee.

Jesus's mother was there and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivals and Jesus's mother told him they have no more wine. Dear woman, that's not our problem. Jesus replied, my time has not yet come, but his mother told the servants, do whatever he tells you. Standing nearby, there were six stone water jars used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold 20 to 30 gallons. Jesus told the servants, fill the jars with water. When the jars had been filled, he said, now dip some out and take it to the master of ceremonies. So the servants followed his instructions. When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from, though, of course the servants knew he called the bridegroom over a host always serves the best wine. He said then when everyone has had a lot to drink he brings out the less expensive one, but you have kept the best until now This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory and his disciples believed in him His disciples believed in him There's a lot here doesn't seem like a lot but there really is I got a lot of downloads The first one verse 2 Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration like it just shows that Jesus Likes to participate in ordinary human Celebrations he wants a relationship with us and he wants to participate with you He wants you to talk to him about the winds He wants you to talk about the losses, but he wants you to talk about the winds, too He wants a relationship with you. He wants to participate in that Verse 3 the wine supplier ran out during the festive. So Jesus's mother told him they have no more wine. Okay Back in the day in this culture running out of wine at a wedding was a was a big big like epic fail for the Wedding weddings were a big deal They probably spent more time and effort planning weddings back then that they even do now

well, some people have crazy weddings, but Running out of wine was a serious social failure. Okay, it would bring shame it would bring embarrassment on the family For years to come like everyone would remember so-and-so's wedding that that member they ran out of wine Oh my god, that's so bad, you know, they would be gossiping But I noticed something here Mary his mother. She just simply reports the need to Jesus without making a demand She just says She just says they have no more wine They have no more wine she didn't She didn't suggest how he solved that problem. She didn't give him outcomes She just simply reported the need How do you pray? When you pray to God, do you report the need or do you prescribe a solution? Are you are you sitting there in County Jail going? Okay, God, man I'm really sorry that I did this thing now I have this charge and it's hanging over my head and I'm really worried about it. God. Send me a lawyer Send me a good judge. That's gonna have Favor on me send me favor. Give me favor with the jury Give me are we are we like trying to tell him how to solve our problem or are we just simply reporting the problem? Because a lot of times Jesus will answer prayers, but he'll do it in ways you'll never ever ever would think of okay, and Sometimes he wants to do a work in us through that first okay, and so I want to I want to challenge you to to Not necessarily prescribe the solution. Just bring your needs to Jesus. That's what that's what Mary did She the posture it's his posture of faith simply bringing what we cannot fix To the one who can fix it to the one who's omnipotent who actually has the power to do something about it Verse 4 Says dear woman, that's not our problem. Jesus replied. My time is not yet come My hour has not yet come another Translation says that Greek word is Hora H-o-r-a and what it means is a certain indefinite

time or season Fixed by natural law returning with the revolving year or the revolving season. So it's talking about a season a time Okay, it's a term that John uses also referring to the cross and the glorification this hour This it's not my hour has not yet come it's talking about it is not my time in the season, okay But what it does is when you understand that meaning it smashes home that Jesus operates on the Father's timetable And not his timetable and definitely not our timetable and his timetable is better than ours His ways are higher than our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and we need to trust that We need to trust that It's it's funny I had a I had a crazy charge when I was Incarcerated in It was a high-speed chase through a bunch of counties and then I wrecked and I'll get arrested and I thought man I'm just gonna have an evading arrest, which is not not too bad it's like a it's like a lower class of felony but the DA looked at that and said man because you your car was going excessive speeds she put a finding on there of a deadly weapon a deadly weapon finding on this which cranks up the felony and cranks up the the time that I could get and makes it aggravated it just that one little finding makes this tremendously different from a state jail felony that you could do up to two years it was a uh two to twenty and making it average aggravated which means you'll do half of it before you even come up it was huge and man I prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed um forever I finally bonded out after two years and then it was like four more years before I actually went to court on that thing I signed for probation but the deadly weapon sign uh finding was on there meaning if I violate my probation I'm I'm I'm guilty and I'm getting the aggravated time and I violated the probation and now here I am back in jail for it again and I'm still praying and I'm still praying over over a total of about six or seven years I never prayed for anything more than I prayed for this can you please God somehow get this aggravated off me get this deadly weapon finding off me please and I'll give you all the praise and glory I'll tell everyone that you did it so I'm actually making good on that promise right now as I'm telling it to you and as it was getting closer to time that was it was getting to a point to where it looked like man we're gonna have to go deal with this I had I'd violated probation in other counties as well and got time and been

to TDC and was getting bench warranted back and bench warranted back um and it was my time to now go to this county and I'm still praying very consistently very hard about this and and COVID happened all of a sudden the officers start coming to to the jail with masks on we're like whoa whoa whoa what's happening COVID happens everything gets shut down people get so scared to even bring people into their county jails at that time that you basically had to have a murder charge to even go to jail um they would cite you and they would come get you later but uh they were so scared to to to have me come in there that they just my lawyer said look he signed for eight years in this other uh county and they just wanted to see proof that I'd signed for something and was actually going to go to prison and they just dismissed the case because they didn't want me to come in like he I'm not saying he created COVID to answer my prayers but he definitely used COVID to answer my prayers he fixed that situation in a way that I would have never guessed I would have if he gave me a hundred thousand guesses I would have never guessed well there's going to be a pandemic and they're going to be scared and they're just going to dismiss the case because they don't want me to be in the in the jail I'm telling you guys prayer works in mysterious ways verse five but his mother told the servants do whatever he tells you um interestingly this was mary's last spoken word in john's gospel um she points people towards jesus and models complete surrender she simply says do what he says and I know we all want to be advice givers when our friends are going through stuff and I know we all want to want to try to fix and we all want to try to make people feel better but I'm I'm telling you the best thing we can do is just say do what he says pray listen and then do what he says do what he says verse six standing nearby were six stone water jars used for jewish ceremonial washing each could hold 20 to 30 gallons so six times 30 is 180 gallons uh there's 180 gallons way more wine than anybody want could possibly drink okay far more than what was needed and this is just an example I think of the god that we serve right this grace that's poured out on us this generosity right this this expression of love right it's it's overabundant it's almost wasteful in the generosity he loves us so much he just pours and pours and pours on us um verse seven jesus told the servants fill the jars with water when the jars have been filled he said now dip some out and take it to the master of ceremonies okay he told them to fill these giant stone jars which were probably super heavy with water it was probably a hassle they're probably thinking what does this have to do with this this problem that we have we're out of wine

and you want us to fill these Take time and effort to fill these giant jars with with water. What what is that? Sometimes he's gonna ask us to do things that don't make sense When I came in man, he saved me out of a hotel room I have a radical experience with him Hopelessly addicted to drugs. I gave away enough dope to keep me high for a long time Walked out of there and he immediately asked me to lay down sexual sin and I'm thinking man What does that have to do with me staying clean? Like come on man, can't I just gave away all that dope. Can we just deal with one thing at a time and Jesus is like I don't want 90% of you. I want all of you and Then he backdoors it with imagine what your life could be like if you just got all the way in So he asks us to do things that at times don't make sense at times Seem like a big hassle and what is this gonna actually do? But this is how he is and it's laid out in the scriptures right here and then they went and took this Took that took dipped it out and presented it to the to the the ceremony master He's asking them to do something that could cause them it exposes them to risk and ridicule Like if I go and present water to this master of servants Not only are we gonna be a laughingstock for running out of wine, but you just gave me a cup of water like What is wrong with you? Like he's exposing the to risk Presenting that water to the master as if it was wine Like that that could that was risky That was risky. He's gonna ask us to do risky things He's gonna ask us to do things that that put us out there maybe you want to Heal somebody maybe you want to God's place a gift of healing on you Okay, and then you see someone sick or injured and you go over them and say be healed in Jesus name Well, what if they're not healed? What if I'm made out to look like a fool? What if you have a prophetic word for someone but you're scared to say it to them because well What if it's totally off? What if what if it's wrong? What if he asks us to get out there and trust him? He asks us to have faith in him

He asks us to do hard things and that's what I want you guys to to get down in your Down in your heart man down in your spirit This walk is not going to be easy. But this walk is so good. It's it's it's simple but not easy It's difficult, but it's so rewarding because I'm telling you there's nothing that touches being used By God first nine when the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine not knowing where to come from He called the bridegroom over a host always serves the best wine first And then when everyone has had a lot to drink he brings out the less expensive wine But you've kept the best until last this is a profound statement. It's a theological Statement it describes the entire gospel story, right the world offers its best first it offers pleasure It offers achievement it offers money success the things of the flesh but they're always a Disappointment in the end they never fulfill although they always promise to fulfill sexual sin and pornography and all that you just think that you're gonna be so fulfilled if I can just get this one thing this one person this one little set of circumstances and then it never is It never is and then you want more you want more extreme you want It's just a it's a vicious cycle. That's the world but but Jesus brings the best last The kingdom's wine gets better and better and better and it always fulfills and it always satisfies So that's just a few nuggets that I got out of John chapter 2 verse 1 through 13 the Jesus's first miracle guys, you can be his next miracle You can be his next miracle right now You can you can surrender you can get all in you can lay down that thing that he's been telling you to lay down But you've been ignoring it because what does it really matter? I mean, I'm going to church I'm doing I'm reading my Bible, but I don't want to fight against that sin I don't want to wage war against that sin. I don't want to strive to live a righteous life I want to say to you what he said to me Imagine what your life could be like if you just got all the way in one time father. We love you And we thank you we praise you Lord

For all that you've done all that you've done in our lives all that you're doing and all the people who are watching God we We just we just want to just exalt your name today We just love you so much and God. I'm just praying a blessing over everyone who's watching I'm praying exceedingly and abundantly above all they can think or ask over whoever's watching you God I pray for a convicting spirit of what do they need to lay down? What do they need to do? You're always calling us higher You're always calling us to more and God if there's anyone there that doesn't know you that's watching God I pray that they would just call upon the name of Jesus Says in Romans anyone who calls upon his name will be saved if you've never done that. It's just that simple Can just cry out to him. It's a say Jesus. I'm calling on your name Because your word says that anyone that calls on your name will be saved and I might not understand it and I might not can explain it I Might not even believe it, but I'm holding you to your word And you say in your word that anyone who calls on your name is saved. So I'm saying I'm a sinner and I need you Jesus God I pray that Those people that wanna they're thinking about saying that prayer could realize what a powerful prayer that that is That yes, you turned water into wine and that was an amazing miracle But you can do even more and more impactful amazing miracles and it can be right now With the next person that calls upon your name and so we thank you and we love you And we just invite you into our lives to do what only you can do in Jesus name. There's no life None in the heavens None in the earth Around the earth There's no holy God Come on, last time, you sing. It's amazing, I was getting prepared for this morning, and right in the middle of that song, I didn't plan this with Ryan or anything. Holy Spirit was like, you should look up this verse, and it's Revelation 4, 8. And it says that the angels circled the throne, singing, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come. So as we sing, Holy are You, Lord, we join with all of heaven, praising our God. And I just thought how amazing it is that we serve one God to drop a scripture in my spirit in the middle of worship. And then for Ryan to be led, that just shows the power of our God. Let's pray, Lord Jesus, we thank You for this amazing day. We thank You for the opportunity to worship together, to join all of heaven, singing, How holy are You, Lord. Father, we pray for Your presence to descend on this room.

Father, we pray for Your blessing and Your anointing. And Lord, we pray that You would touch each person here and draw them closer to Your heart. Father, we thank You, we love You, we praise You. Before I get started, I just want to look back here at the camera and tell everybody that's going to be watching later online a big hello. And to all the men and women in the correctional facilities, we love you. You are part of this church. You are not a project to us. All right, we are in week number three of a series called Built on the Rock. It's been phenomenal. I've really enjoyed this series. We've been busting through. and going through and kinda looking at what the church looks like. This week we're gonna talk about the building process that Paul lays out. And so when I thought about the building process, I figured we might wanna give you guys an update on what's going on because we were supposed to be moving into our building this last Easter, and here we are still in the school. So we have had lots of learning lessons, me in particular, one of them being that you always write a performance clause with your architects and engineers when they're doing stuff so that they can get stuff done on time. So we finally got our architectural paperwork back and our MEP, our engineering paperwork back.

It's only been about four months late. So now we've at least got that process. We have our contractors going out and they're doing bids right now, which we should be getting back by the end of June. So after June, we should have a little bit more realistic timeline of when we will be moving in to our location. There's been a lot of work done out there. The kid's area has been almost completed. The auditorium is looking good out there. We just need to build some new bathrooms, a new parking lot, and a new lobby over there for everybody. So it's coming. We haven't forgot about y'all. Believe me, all the volunteers in here, they wanna be done with set up and tear down every single morning. So we're doing what we can to jump into it. So today, if you have your Bibles, we're actually gonna be teaching out of Paul's first epistle to the Californians. First Corinthians is what we'll be in. And I love this, because Jesus, in John chapter seven, he said that his disciples would be in the world, but not of the world. This is what he prayed for. This is what he hoped for. And Paul, he's addressing this with the church of Corinth. Because the church of Corinth,

they had some nasty stuff going on over there. They were one of the most wealthiest cities of the time, of the Roman Empire. And they were well known for their pottery and their brass. It had a bunch of silver, gold, and copper mixed into it, so it looked really fancy, really shiny. But they were famous for their Ishmian games, which is like the Olympics for us. And it happens every two years out there. And they held these at the Temple of Poseidon. And so people were really big in the culture about their class. And if you won one of these Ishmian games, all your taxes were forgiven, your house was paid for, you never had to pay for food ever again. And so it just, it elevated this class of people. And right now, during this modern day, we search for that out as well. We want the likes, we want the people to follow us, that prestige, that honor, that culture. And this is what people were searching out in there. One of the biggest things that they had in Corinth was they had one of the biggest temples was the Temple of Aphrodite. And it had over 1,000 female prostitutes and oracles in there. And so you have this literally within a half a mile to a mile of the church that's trying to get established in Corinth. And you'll see later on during the,

when you read the text, that Paul is getting really discouraged about these females that are raising up sort of a ruckus in the Corinthian church. And a lot of people will take that and say, women, you need to cover your head, you need to sit down, shut up, and you don't have a role in the church. But that's not what Paul is saying to the Corinthian church. What he's actually addressing is these temple prostitutes that are coming into the church. And what's happening is they are sold as slaves to the temple. And when they're sold as slaves to the temple, they have to shave their heads. So they walk around with shaved heads, that's how you know they are a temple prostitute. Now, some of them are getting saved and coming to the church. And some of them are oracles trying to pull people out of the church. And so Paul is getting extremely disgruntled by all this stuff that's going on in the church. And he says, tell those women to cover their heads so people don't know that they're slaves. Tell them to cover their head, tell them to sit down and talk to their slave owner if they have questions. We're not gonna have them in here

disrupting what's going on. And so you can see how lots of churches and lots of people can take scripture out of context. And you have to look at what's going on culturally and historically with that. Corinth was given the nickname Corinthia Zoma. And this was coined by the Romans. It meant to live like a Corinthian, drunk, sexually out of control with no morals. That was the connotation behind that word. Sadly, the church in Corinth was starting to live as the Corinthians. And so Paul wants to address them and so he jumps right in into chapter 1 and He says over 39 times. He calls them brothers and sisters It says I'm writing to God's church in Corinth to you have been called by God to be his own holy people He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus just as he did for all people Everywhere who can call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ their Lord and ours and so he's who is he addressing here? He's not addressing the sinners. He's not a day. He's not addressing the people that are not believers He's addressing this book of Corinth is Addressing the believers. It's addressing the church and he wants to establish Hey We cannot reach out and touch anybody else if we're gonna be so jacked up and living like the world in here And so he goes on in verse 10. It says I appeal to you dear brothers and sisters again 39 times He's trying to say hey, we are on the same team We are on the same team. We're fighting the same war. You are my brothers and sisters in this battle You are saved, but let's do this together Says by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ to live in harmony with each other Let there be no division in the church rather be of one mind united in thought and purpose See there's they they had all these philosophers they had over 500 philosophers that were in that area you had Pluto

Socrates Aristotle you had all these big names are coming out of that area. So you have tons of of knowledge and philosophical Talks and debates that are going on around here and so everybody is picking their philosopher and they're saying I am of so-and-so and So what you have is you have Paul addressing that in the scripture and in chapter 1 He says him Apollos and Peter and so what he's doing is he's he's not calling out the people directly in the Corinthian Church because he Kind of hints at that in chapter 4 that he's saying there is some people that are following specific people They're not following Christ and instead of calling them out in chapter 4. He keeps using Myself Peter and Apollos and one of my favorite new scriptures that I studied this week is Paul he's walking around and he's telling them. Hey, don't follow anybody. In fact, our Job is to speak the gospel He says in verse 17 For Christ didn't send me to baptize people but to preach the good news and not with clever speech for fear that the cross of Christ would lose his power and So that tells me I've got a I'm safe If he can use a Neanderthal like me to come up here and all I got to do is just preach the good news Man, that's all he says. We don't have to be Charismatic and great right he says let's focus on preaching the word let's focus on open the Bibles and turn into what God says and so Then he goes on into the wisdom And says the message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction But we who are being saved know it is very power of God and he uses Isaiah 29 is what he references here He says I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent So where does this leave the philosophers the scholars and the world's brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish Since God and his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom He has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe it is foolish to the Jews

Who asked for signs from heaven and it is foolish for the Greeks who seek human wisdom? So when we preach that Christ was crucified the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it's all nonsense Because they're focusing on Philosophy they're focusing on science. They're focusing on Mathematics that this is this is what's going on at that time. So people that are Trying to act like they are educated and they are they are above Any of this is what he's preaching to he's saying hey, this is gonna make absolutely no sense to people that are not spiritual and It's our job to step in and to show people the face of Christ And so they have become obsessed with personality so Paul writes this Deeply convicting passage to the church that belongs to Christ And he says the foundation is Christ the glory belittling Belongs to Christ and he starts right away in verse 3 1 and that's where I'm gonna focus at is in chapter 3 today It says dear brothers and sisters again, he's talking to the believers when I was with you I couldn't talk to you as I would spiritual people I had to talk as though you belong to this world or as though you were infants in Christ So I'm gonna stop right there for a second. So Paul through this this Book of the Corinthians through this epistle. He talks about three different types of people The first one he talks about is the natural people And so these are like Adam they reject the things of the spirit and so they don't care about the spiritual They don't they're not gonna they're not diving in there. They're lost. They're on the outskirts They're involved in the Corinthian way, right sexual immorality drunkenness anger Deception whatever their their line and they they don't care about the spiritual. They love that life too much And right here in the last two he says there's people that are spiritual and these are the ones that know God these are the ones that have a relationship with God that live as if they are in relationship with God that you can tell a physical difference on them because of their relationship with God and Then he goes in and in the NLT. It says belong to this world But in the translation of the Greek it means carnal

So he says the carnal people now, these are the ones that know God they know the things of God Yet they still are characterized by the flesh They still these are what I like to say the the CIA Warriors for the Lord, right? They come to church. They put their hands up. They worship they pour out They love God when they're around other Christians, but they are so undercover when they leave this place No one ever knows that they are a Christ follower They jump into the things of the world the lingo of their Workspaces the cuss and the drunkenness everything else and then they show back up on Sunday and say let's praise the Lord These guys are our ninjas And I'm not gonna lie. I've been one of them As you get in front of different people and you're embarrassed To say you're a Christ follower. You might know you're one of these guys if one of your friends says you're a Christ follower That might give you the hint that says hey, maybe people don't realize That I'm doing that So he's addressing these three people in a verse two and three he goes on He says I had to feed you with milk not with solid food because you weren't ready for anything stronger And you still aren't ready for you are still controlled by your sinful nature You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn't that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren't you living like the people of this world? That's what he's continuing to say Look, this is how you can tell are you obsessed with your likes your follows on social media? Are you obsessed with getting prestige and honor and having your name known? Are you obsessed with that? Are you obsessed with Lord? Are you obsessed with serving people loving people treating people the way Christ wants you to treat people? Focusing on his presence and not the world's presence Next Paul goes through his building process. So this is gonna be the main text that I want to focus on So I'm gonna read this whole text and I'm gonna go back and kind of break it down for you guys So starting in verse 10 says because of God's grace to me I have laid the foundation like an expert builder now others are Building on it But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful for no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have

Jesus Christ Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials gold silver jewels wood hay or straw but on the judgment day Fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done The fire will show if a person's work has any value if the work survives that builder will receive a reward But if the work is burned up the builder will suffer great loss The builder will be saved but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames Don't you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple for God's temple is holy and you are that temple See every believer must decide Will I build something eternal or will I waste my life on temporary things? Every person in this room. You're building something a marriage a life a career a ministry a testimony according to Paul we are also building the church for Jesus so the question is not whether you're building something the question is what are you building on and what are you building with and the first problem point in this is that God has given us a divine building project first Corinthians 310 it says because of God's grace to me I have laid the foundation like an expert builder see Paul uses architectural language here because Corinth understood that Corinth had been destroyed and brought back up numerous times 150 BC the Romans sat the Corinthian area they burned the whole place down and they start building it back up and so the Corinthian people they are very well informed about foundations about buildings about everything else Corinth was they dove into their building standards out there they loved statues they loved big architecture around the area they had statues lining up every single corner vividly pictured with with great drawings they had archaic kind of decals across the floor that you would see in fact if you go to the Agora that's in Corinth me and Jim got to go there this last year's it was absolutely phenomenal you sit there in the Agora and they have all the marketplaces lined up of where the different trades are supposed to be and you can see the area where the tent makers are supposed to be and if you look right above where they're at there's this temple to the unknown God right in front of them so you can see how how Paul

is seeing this stuff and how it's starting to be translated and come down into scripture as well Paul calls himself an expert builder this Greek word is our town which which refers to an architect our superintendent of construction so one of the things I'm learning through this building process is these architects and they go through a lot of detail I look at something like all we got to do is build a lobby out here so that we can get in there and some restrooms so we may need to run some pipes and throw some cement down and do something else and you know and we're good to go but these guys they send the the drawings and there's pillars going down and foundation and certain percentages that they allow for movement and all this other stuff and I'm not even thinking about it and they're trying to get it down to zero percent so my guys we need it at zero percent who cares of a little crack shows up here so they're going through all this stuff and it's it's it there's so much work and so much so much expert knowledge that goes into this and this is what Paul is saying that because of the grace of God he has been given the knowledge to build the church on Jesus Christ he says I laid the foundation in Corinth but I want you to notice something the grace of God is what gave him the personal ability and the merit the word grace means it not only just to be called to establish a church it means to be enabled empowered and equipped to do the job so he was given the tools to show up and the tools to work and just like us all the time we go through different scenarios in life man why do we why are we going through this prime why are we going through this valley in our life right now but God is always equipping you with something he's always teaching you something and so we have to have the mindset what can I learn during this time what is God trying to work on me I know he works on me with my anger a lot of times by having people cut me off on the highway and then I about lose my mind and I remember I'm a Christian stop what would Jesus say if you saw me doing this right now it wouldn't be good so I get plenty of opportunities to work on that because that's something I need to work on and so maybe the Lord is sending you through some stuff as well so that you can work on and get some

tools see the church is not built on human talent alone it's built by the grace of God that's what he's saying right here and Paul points out that he planted but others watered others taught and others served and the same is true today every believer in here is doing one of two things you're either strengthening the church or you're weakening church there is no neutral ground in this battle when you look at it of the Spartan aspect, is they would stand there with their shields intertwined all the way down. And their formation and their success was dependent upon their shields being interlocked and each person doing their job. And then they could push forward, lunge back, and they couldn't stab, they could reach out, they could do that. That's why if you look at the account from Herodotus, the historian, Herodotus claims that the Spartan 300 actually killed close to 50,000 Persians when they came in because the Spartans were unified. They had one, they all acted as one body for it. Now, if one of those guys in the wall decides that they want to step back and they just want to observe the battle. And hey, I showed up on a battlefield, but I'm not ready to fight. That puts a chink in the armor that hurts everybody around there. See, one of the things that I absolutely love about this church,

is I don't know if you guys know this, but most church metrics, when you look at it, you want to figure out if you are being successful or not in a church setting. You look at how many people serve, how many people are involved in groups. And what you want to do is that the number that you shoot for in churches is 40%. You want 40% of the congregation that shows up on Sunday to be involved outside of Sunday. And that means you're doing good. You know how many we have in here? 60%. Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo!

I mean, you are in church setting. If you don't know what it is, that doesn't mean you can't take it. And you cannot be like, you know, that God knows you and loves you, and that feeling that you get when you come in here and that atmosphere. Why do you think that is? It's because everybody is stepping up and doing their part. It's not about the worship team. It's not about me, right here. In fact, Paul made that clear in chapter one. And so, that's one of the reasons I just absolutely love this church. So I've gone to churches where they're at 20%, and it's lifeless. You walk in the door and you're like, what, nobody knows each other. You walk in here, everybody hugs each other and says, hi, all of you guys know each other. That's what we've got to continue to strive for. We've got to continue to be united in this battle, like the Spartans. In Corinth, status meant everything. Public honor was prized. People competed socially. Teachers gathered followers around themselves. That same spirit had entered the church. The Corinthians started treating preachers like celebrities.

And this is where we run into issues, and this is where you see stuff all the time, where preachers screw up, and then people get church wounds, right? Because it's not about the pastor. It should never, all of us are human beings. Romans 3.23 says, for all who sin and fall short of the glory of God. Every single one of us is a sinner. It's what do we do when we sin? Do we turn, do we run back to the Lord? Do we have people that keep us accountable, that are apostolic leaders over us, and pray over us, and lead us? But ultimately, people are gonna fail you. You're gonna get failed by your spouse. You're gonna get failed by your loved ones. You're gonna get failed by leadership. It's gonna happen, and people use that as an excuse to run. That's not the excuse to run. The church is the church because it's based on Jesus Christ. It's based on community. It's based on all of you doing life together, taking care of each other. Man, I get so emotional these last couple weeks, because I've seen multiple times right now that people have identified others in the church in need, and they have stepped up without asking the church to intercede, and they have interceded financially, or with time, or with anything else,

just because they love people, and because they wanna serve, and because they wanna be the hands and feet. And we had an amazing couple this week that wanted to donate some money to another couple, and they said, we don't even want you to tell them our names. Just know that the Lord loves them and cares about them. I mean, you can't, when a church starts doing that, that's transforming. When a church starts doing that, you know that you're built on the right foundation. You know that the right materials are being used. Paul is talking to the Corinthians and he said, you've missed the point because they're praising these pastors. Ministers are supposed to be servants. The more you get hiked up in ministry, the more you should be washing people's feet. The more you should be in the trenches with people. It doesn't sound, that's not prestigious. That's not something fun a lot of times for it. Me and Jen, we have our phones ring nonstop each and every single day. We're doing counselings at all hours of the night. We don't have normal business hours. And I don't think people realize that that's what being a pastor involves. It involves long hours, hospital visits, house visits, all sorts of different things. It's not that I just get to sit down and write a message and then show up on Sunday and speak it and go home and lay on my couch again until the next week. There's a little bit more that goes into it than that, but we love it. We absolutely love it. We love being able to do life with people. We love getting to love on people and just do life with people.

But what you have to understand is ministry involves a servant mindset. It involves saying, you know what, I got to wake up early this morning. I hate waking up early, but I'm going to get up early and I'm going to come help these guys set up in the morning, right, because all this stuff, it doesn't magically show up out here. We've got an army of volunteers that show up out here at 7 o'clock in the morning and put all this stuff together and set it all up. Set up that kid's area, set up lobby out here, and then they stay after you guys leave and tear it all apart. And none of them are seeking notoriety or seeking attention, but they know that they have to be servants if they're going to be in ministry. And so I haven't even hit my second point yet. I'm not doing good the last couple of weeks. I keep going off track. Last week, I was speaking to McKinney, and they came up and started playing the keys and I hadn't even hit my first of six points yet. My timing's off a little bit over here. Point two, there's only one foundation. First Corinthians 311 says, for no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have and that's Jesus Christ. This is a clear declaration that Paul is making, is that there is only one foundation and that's Jesus Christ. It's not religion, right? It's not morality, it's not tradition, it's not money, it's not success, it's not your political ideology, it's not self-help books, it's Jesus Christ. I'm going to say something a little controversial right now. So many of us as Christians, we want to be accepted of other cultures, of Islam, of Hinduism. But I'm going to ask you, if you watch somebody sticking a gun up to their head, are you not going to go over and try and intercede? If you watch people that are trying to kill themselves, because this is very clear, this

specifically says there is nothing that's going to get you into heaven besides Jesus Christ. Now beating people with a Bible, that's probably not the answer, because I know before I gave my life to the Lord, I was disgusted by everybody that would come up and Bible-thump me. I'm like, man, I don't want to have anything to do with this. I'm not going in. But you know what transformed my opinion about Christians, was just people loving on me. One of my favorite quotes is from St. Francis, it said, always be ministering and when necessary, use words. Live it out. Walk it out. If you're loving on people, if you're serving others, if you're humble and truly loving people and they're seeing Christ all over you, they're going to say, you know what? I want what that guy has. And then the door is going to open. I've got a buddy who was a truck driver and he said, man, I've got this new Muslim guy who's got a CDL and he's going to be working with me for the next three months training. And he said, he is closed off to Jesus Christ. And I said, well, what are you going to do? He said, well, he has to be in my truck for 12 hours a day for the next three months. We're going to listen to Christian music. Again, like what Paul's saying over here, some plant, some water, some feet, right? You don't know what your role in it is. All you know is that you have a role in other people's lives. And so just jumping in and being content with, hey, I may plant a seed here that I may never see come to fruition, but I've gotta be okay with just letting them know, hey, Jesus loves you.

I love our young adults. Our young adults, if you've seen Pastor Eddie, he was out here two weeks ago, he brings those young adults, they're ages 18 to 28, they go out to different malls almost every week and minister to people in the malls. They went and sat on the tram that runs from Dallas up here to McKinney and ministered to people on that one day. And these guys are actually getting out and hitting the streets and just speaking and praying over people, 18 to 28 years old. That's absolutely amazing. Acts 4.12 says, there is salvation in no one else. God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Again, the cross is not one option of many options. It is the only option. Jesus states, John 14.6, I am the way, the truth and the life. Not a way. He says, he is the way. There is only one way. The foundation of Christianity is not philosophy. It's not a self-help book on how to live better, on how to serve better, on how to do this. The book is all about your salvation,

your relationship with Jesus. I show people this all the time. I absolutely love it. One of my mentors showed me this. If you turn, this is a teaching Bible. If you turn to Genesis chapter one, which is right here, here's Genesis, the beginning. Flip one page. Genesis chapter one, everything's created. Everything's turned chapter two. Humans have been created. Guess what? We've already fallen. I've turned one page in the Bible. We're made here. We've fallen there. Now we get all the way over here to Revelation. This is the end of Revelation, and this is where we're redeemed. All this is God trying to get us back to square one. This is how much God loves us, as he gives us example after example about his love for us. And he wants us to stand firm on that foundation. Jesus taught in Matthew 7, 24 and 27 about the building of the solid foundation. And he says, anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock, though the rain comes in torrents

and the flood waters rise and the winds beat against the house, I won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is forfeited. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash. Once you notice something, it's not two separate storms that hit these houses, same exact storm. Just one was built on the right foundation and the other wasn't. You never really know what holds your life together until suffering comes, until betrayal comes, sickness comes, death comes, loss comes, pressure comes. And anything built on the world will eventually collapse. Matthew 16 says, upon this rock I will build my church, not our church, his church. This is why it's so important that we build wisely. And that's point number three. First Corinthians 312 through 13 says, anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials, gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay or straw, but on judgment day fire will reveal

what kind of work each builder has done. So there's two types of categories here that Paul uses. The permanent materials, and this is gold, and gold in the Bible signifies purity, kingship, glory, faith, with the Ark of the Covenant it signifies transparency for it. And so spiritually gold represents sincere devotion to God, works led by the Holy Spirit, not for yourself. Silver is connected with redemption and atonement. It's used in the story with Judas. It's used in Exodus 30 as redemption from the law. Spiritually silver represents the redemptive work of Christ. ministry that is grounded in truth and genuine service and precious stones are the other one that are listed and these symbolize beauty produced through high pressure whose stones are built with high heat and high pressure in fact when you look at stones the way you can tell how how priceless they are is when you take a magnifying glass and you look up into it and you look for imperfections inside of it if there's a lot of imperfections then that it wasn't as high a pressure as high a heat as other stones or gems are but the ones who were put in tons of high pressure and high heat they've had all the imperfections cooked out and baked out and this is what Paul is saying when you have a bunch of people in your church that are imperfect that have been cooked over and over again that still continue to come out and and love the Lord and still dive in regardless of what circumstances they've had what purity is they've need cooked out of them when you have people like that in your church in the congregation that love each other to take care of each other the fire is not gonna burn up that church it's gonna stand strong the second group of materials that Paul lists the perishable materials and the first one he uses is wood because it represents something temporary weak and easily consumed by fire unlike gold and silver and precious stones wood symbolizes human effort

human wisdom because it's something that we make and we define and we build but when water hits it it'll cook hay is the next thing it lives in here hey again is something temporary fragile and easily destroyed you could have a whole entire pile of hay and it's not gonna be worth as much as a little diamond it goes quick but shallow commitment is what hay symbolizes in the Bible where you have works motivated motivated more by outward appearance than genuine devotion people that they want to do something good but they want everybody to know that they did something good and then the last one is a stubble stubble in the Bible you see this all the time when it shows up after at each harvest it is considered nearly worthless because there's the leftover from all the harvests it's dry it's fragile and this stuff will ignite quick and disappear stubble represents religious activity performed without true faith or sincerity prideful works done to for their your own recognition you built this ministry you built this church you gave you did this it's a lot of I statements and putting yourself at the forefront instead of putting Christ at the forefront number four is every time you go through a building process there's got to be an inspection first Corinthians 313 and 15 says the fire will show if a person's work has any value if the work is burned up the builder will suffer great loss see one day every believer will stand before God and this is not for condemnation there's two judgments that are that are done you have the great white throne judgment that's where God will separate his believers and unbelievers out and then you have what's called the beam a seat judgment not beam a seat of Christ and this is where this is not about condemnation this is not about if you're saved or not this is about what did you do with the souls I entrusted you what did you do in ministry what was your motive your action your ministry and that's where it's gonna get tested by fire see through scripture you're always you're told that your iniquities are what gets passed down and from generation to generation to kids iniquities mean your inward motivation see so many people think our

transgressions are what get passed on to the kids it's not the transgressions it's your inward motivations what scripture tells us will get passed down to the third and fourth generation what is your inward motivation is it love is it humility is it caring for others is it a desire to serve the desire to be godly or is it pride is it self-centered is it constantly wanting more That's what you've got to hold up and see, what do I want to pass on to my kids? Not only what do I want to see when I'm standing in front of God, but what do I want to pass on to my kids? Are you okay with giving them your inside motivations and saying, here you go, you guys deal with this? Are you somebody that wants to step up and say, now, I will have the right motivations. That's going to be because I'm going to be focused on Christ. It brings us to the last point. We have to make sure that we have security installed and we have our nice temple built. First Corinthians 3.16 says, don't you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that your spirit of God lives in you. See, Paul now raises the seriousness of the discussion. The church is not merely an organization, it is the temple of God. And if you look at the Old Testament, you can see how the temple is laid out. There's three main chambers in the temple. You have the Holy of Holies, where the high priest is allowed to go in once a year, and that's where the spirit of God resides. You have the priestly chambers where incense is burned, sacrifices are done. That's where the worship is at. And then you have a courtyard and you have other small rooms all around, but those are the three main rooms for the temple. And so when we look at this, your soul, when you get saved and you invite Christ into your life, your soul is where the Holy of Holies is at. Your mind becomes the priestly chambers, that's the inlet into your soul. That's where your worship, that's where your praise, that's where your internal motivations,

your iniquities, that's where they are. And then you have your physical body, and that's the courtyard. Now scripture tells us that if we don't put watchmen on the guards of the temple, that all sorts of unclean animals can come in, beggars, and you can have all sorts of stuff that starts showing up in that courtyard. And so what we have to do is we have to make sure we're putting watchmen on the gate. We have to make sure that we're cleaning house, so we get all this nasty stuff out because we don't want any of it to affect our worship. That's why what you watch, what you hear, what you do, it all factors in to your worship. If you watch filth on TV all day long, why do you think you're going to treat your spouse or your kids the way you do? Why do you think you're going to have angry outbursts when you're watching people killing each other all day long? When you watch pornography, that's when you're going to have unmet expectations with your spouse. You're looking at stuff you should never look at. We have to guard our eyes. We have to guard our ears. You listen to, one of my vices is I love heavy metal. I do, and I put that on, but then I realize I'm driving 100 miles an hour down the road when I'm putting it on. It changes you, whether you realize it or not. You have to guard every one of these atmospheres. You have to put watchmen in front of your gates so that you make sure that nothing can destroy the temple. First Corinthians 3.17 says, God will destroy anyone who destroys the temple, for God's temple is holy and you are that temple. God loves you so much, he doesn't want this, he doesn't want anybody in here to get destroyed. Hebrews 12.15 says, watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.

If you were with us during the series, when we went through the Song of Solomon, we talk about the roots and how the roots can be poisonous, they can grow up and you won't be able to tell because it looks the same on the outside. It's not until you get weeks or months into it when you realize that what you've actually been growing, what you've actually been letting get stirred up is not healthy, it's not good for you. And so we have to be careful to guard our chambers to ensure that we are not letting these roots grow up. So what I'd love to do is I'd love to ask all of you around here, go ahead and just bow your heads, close your eyes, because I want to pray over you. But first I want to ask you the question, what foundation are you standing on today? What materials are you building with? The only thing that God guarantees us in life is that storms will come, trials will come. and only what is built on Christ will remain so Lord I just pray over each and every single person on the side of my voice so thankful for this amazing church Lord that loves you that serves you Lord that has the heart and the desire to walk in your anointing Lord Lord I just pray that you help us continue to build wisely strengthen your church guard us from division from pride and from shallow living Lord let our lives be anchored completely in Jesus Christ may we build with eternal materials that survive the fire of your inspection may we walk alongside each and every single person together or to do this together constantly pushing each other towards your wisdom towards your presence giving you all the glory because you are the ultimate foundation and if you're in here today maybe you've never had the chance to give your life to the Lord you're saying hey I want to I'm sick of carrying all this these burdens these heavy weight I'm sick of living the way I am I don't want to either rededicate or I just want to give my life to the Lord today if that's you just say Lord I'm wore out I'm burdened I don't want to live like this anymore Lord I need all of you and all of me right now Lord I confess with my mouth that you are Lord and Savior King of the

universe and I believe in my heart that you died raised three days later that your blood covers all my sins past present future Holy Spirit come into my life and have your way fill me from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet Jesus mighty name all God's people said amen amen amen man if that was you you're looking at this and you're going I'm ready to build my life on that firm foundation don't do it alone we have a group of people that want to connect with you that want to help you that want to support you in this new walk or maybe you're recommitting just text Jesus to 510 10 we want to be able to come along beside you give you the resources but more importantly get you plugged into a community that loves you and wants to support you in this moment I want to remind everybody we have pursuit night a week from today it's going to be on June 7th at 6 p.m. it's going to be an amazing night of worship and prayer if you haven't been to one it's incredible maybe there's something in your life and you're going man I just want to be free I just want to go and serve God I just want to I just want to hear him and connect with him on a deeper level pursuit night is that night it's gonna be amazing give you one last blessing may the Lord bless you and keep you may the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you may the Lord lift his countenance upon you and give you peace and may he cover you with his name the precious name of Jesus amen God bless you have a great week you are dismissed
