Church on Fire- Dr. Jon Melander
Pastor Jon breaks down what it takes to be a church on fire. Amazing LF Worship.
Good morning, men and women, such an honor to be able to come to you again from Life Fellowship Church here in McKinney, Texas onto your tablet and whatever facility that you're at across the country. It's our honor and privilege and it's really a blessing to be able to speak into your life. My name is Logan Williams. My TDC number was 1490218. I have four numbers after that, round and round in the system, couldn't get off drugs, couldn't stop getting busted, couldn't stop going to jail and to prison and man, I just had a radical experience with Jesus and he just snatched me out of that. It's just like the Psalms say, he pulled me from the miry clay and set my feet on a rock. Now I had to do a lot of work to get there and stay there, but he did the heavy lifting. He's just looking for our yes and if you can give him your yes, anything is possible and I really, really want you to believe that. Hey, listen, we want you to tell your friends and family to download the same Pando app on their phone that you have. Y'all can watch the same messages, the same teachings. You can talk about it together and you can do this walk together, even though you're behind the wire and they're in the free, you can still walk with your family. You can still speak into their lives. You can still pray for them. You can still, Hey, what did you get out of that sermon? The same one I watched. These are really, really, really good conversations to have with your spouse and your, and your, your children. So please don't buy the lie that you can't leave your family because you're, you're incarcerated. That's just not true. It's just not true. All right, be sure and subscribe to our channel so you don't miss anything. Also I wanted to mention the inmate mail that we receive. We absolutely want you to send us letters.
We absolutely want to walk alongside you. We have a team of volunteers that responds and is mentors and, and, and this type of thing. We have women for women and we have men for men. Okay. We're not ever going to have a woman respond to a man and we're never, ever going to have a man respond to a woman. So if you're writing the women here, the worship team, the other pastors or anybody that you see or, or happen to write a, maybe a speaker that you really liked what they said, um, it's fruitless because we've just had too much trouble with opposite sex engaging. And uh, if there's a policy at our church now, it's men on men, women on women. I just wanted to let you know that in case you were thinking about doing something like that, just don't even bother because they're not going to get the letter. Okay. It's gotta be a man to a man, woman to a woman. And we want to walk alongside you and we absolutely want to answer your questions, pray for you and respond and, and let you have that mentorship, uh, where you're at. It just has to be the right heart and the right motives. All right, man, this morning I was, I was reading in John chapter two and you know, that's, it begins with Jesus's first miracle. And I just kind of read through that miracle story and, and got a few downloads that I'd like to share with you. Um, some things that I hadn't really noticed. I'm just going to read, uh, the, the, the verses first and then we can kind of go through them really quickly. Um, because I know you're, you're ready for the message and we want you to have the message. It's a really good message this week. So first one says the next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana near in Galilee. Jesus's mother was there and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration.
The wine supply ran out during the festivals and Jesus's mother told him they have no more wine. Dear woman, that's not our problem. Jesus replied. My time has not yet come. But his mother told the servants, do whatever he tells you standing nearby. There were six stone water jars used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold 20 to 30 gallons. Jesus told the servants, fill the jars with water. When the jars had been filled, he said, now dip some out and take it to the master of ceremonies. So the servants followed his instructions. When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from, though, of course the servants knew he called the bridegroom over a host always serves the best wine first. He said, then when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine, but you have kept the best until now. This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory and his disciples believed in him. His disciples believed in him. There's a lot here. Doesn't seem like a lot, but there really is. I got a lot of downloads. The first one, verse two, Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. It just shows that Jesus likes to participate in ordinary human celebrations. He wants a relationship with us,
and he wants to participate with you. He wants you to talk to him about the wins. He wants you to talk about the losses, but he wants you to talk about the wins too. He wants a relationship with you. He wants to participate in that. Verse three, the wine supplier ran out during the festival, so Jesus' mother told him they have no more wine. Back in the day in this culture, running out of wine at a wedding was a big, big epic fail for the wedding. Weddings were a big deal. They probably spent more time and effort planning weddings back then than they even do now. Well, some people have crazy weddings, but running out of wine was a serious social failure. It would bring shame. It would bring embarrassment on the family for years to come. Like everyone would remember so-and-so's wedding that, remember, they ran out of wine? Oh my God, that's so bad. You know, they would be gossiping. But I noticed something here. Mary, his mother, she just simply reports the need to Jesus without making a demand. She just says, she just says they have no more wine. They have no more wine. She didn't suggest how he solved that problem. She didn't give him outcomes.
She just simply reported the need. How do you pray when you pray to God? Do you report the need or do you prescribe a solution? Are you sitting there in county jail going, okay, God, man, I'm really sorry that I did this thing. Now I have this charge and it's hanging over my head and I'm really worried about it. God, send me a lawyer. Send me a good judge that's gonna have favor on me. Send me, give me favor with the jury. Give me, are we like trying to tell him how to solve our problem or are we just simply reporting the problem? Because a lot of times Jesus will answer prayers, but he'll do it in ways you'll never, ever, ever would think of, okay? And sometimes he wants to do a work in us through that first, okay? And so I wanna challenge you to not necessarily prescribe the solution, just bring your needs to Jesus. That's what Mary did. She, the posture, it's this posture of faith, simply bringing what we cannot fix to the one who can fix it, to the one who's omnipotent, who actually has the power to do something about it. Verse four, says dear woman, that's not our problem. Jesus replied, my time is not yet come. My hour has not yet come.
Another translation says that Greek word is hora, H-O-R-A. And what it means is a certain indefinite time or season fixed by natural law, returning with the revolving year or the revolving season. So it's talking about a season, a time, okay? It's a term that John uses also referring to the cross and the glorification. This hour, my hour has not yet come. It's talking about, it is not my time in the season, okay? But what it does is when you understand that meaning, it smashes home that Jesus operates on the father's timetable and not his timetable and definitely not our timetable. And his timetable is better than ours. His ways are higher than our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. And we need to trust that. We need to trust that. It's funny, I had a crazy charge when I was incarcerated in 2009. It was a high-speed chase through a bunch of counties and then I wrecked and I get arrested. And I thought, man, I'm just gonna have an evading arrest, which is not. Too bad. It's like a it's like a lower class of felony But the DA looked at that and said man because you your car was going excessive speeds she put a finding on there of a deadly weapon a deadly weapon finding on this which cranks up the felony and Cranks up the the time that I could get and makes it aggravated. It's just that one little finding Makes this tremendously different
From a state jail felony that you could do up to two years. It was a Two to twenty and making it average aggravated which means you'll do half of it before you even come up It was huge and man. I prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed Forever I finally bonded out after two years and then it was like four more years before I actually went to court on that thing Aside for probation, but the deadly weapon sign Finding was on there. Meaning if I violate my probation I'm guilty and I'm getting the aggravated time and I violated the probation and now here I am back in jail for it again, and I'm still praying and I'm still praying over over a total of about six or seven Years, I never prayed for anything more than I prayed for this. Can you please God? somehow Get this aggravated off me get this deadly weapon finding off me, please and I'll give you all the praise and glory I'll tell everyone that you did it So I'm actually making good on that promise right now as I'm telling it to you and as it was getting closer to time That was it was getting To a point to where it looked like man. We're gonna have to go deal with this I had I'd violated probation and other counties as well and got time and been to TDC and was getting bench warranted back and bench warranted back And it was my time to now go to this county and I'm still praying very consistently very hard about this and and kovat happen All of a sudden the officers start coming to the jail with masks on we're like whoa. Whoa. Whoa, what's happening? Kovat happens everything gets shut down people get so scared to even bring people into their county jails at that time That you basically had to have a murder charge to even go to jail They would cite you and they would come get you later, but They were so scared to have me come in there That they just my lawyer said look he signed for eight years in this other County and They just wanted to see proof that I'd signed for something it was actually gonna go to prison and they just dismissed the case because they didn't want me to come in like He I'm not saying he created kovat to answer my prayers But he definitely used kovat to answer my prayers
He fixed that situation in a way that I would have never guessed I would have if you gave me a hundred thousand guesses, I would have never guessed Well, there's gonna be a pandemic and they're gonna be scared and they're just gonna dismiss the case because they don't want me to be In the in the jail. I'm telling you guys prayer works in mysterious ways First five, but his mother told the servants do whatever he tells you Interestingly, this was Mary's last spoken word in John's gospel She points people towards Jesus and models complete surrender she simply says do what he says And I know we all want to be advice givers when our friends are going through stuff And I know we all want to want to try to fix and we all want to try to make people feel better But I'm I'm telling you the best thing we can do is Just say Do what he says pray Listen and then do what he says Do what he says? First six standing nearby were six stone water jars used for Jewish ceremonial Washing each could hold 20 to 30 gallons. So six times 30 is 180 gallons There's 180 gallons way more wine than anybody one could possibly drink Okay, far more than what was needed and this is just an example I think of the God that we serve right this grace that's poured out on us this Generosity right this this expression of love, right? It's it's Overabundant it's almost wasteful in the generosity He loves us so much he just pours and pours and pours on us Verse 7 Jesus told the servants fill the jars with water when the jars have been filled He said now dip some out and take it to the master of ceremonies. Okay? He told them to fill these giant stone jars, which were probably super heavy with water. It was probably a hassle They're probably thinking man. What does this have to do with this this problem that we have?
We're out of wine and you want us to fill these Tom an effort to fill these giant jars with with water what what is that sometimes he's gonna ask us to do things that don't make sense when I came in man he saved me out of a hotel room I have a radical experience with him hopelessly addicted to drugs I gave away enough dope to keep me high for a long time walked out of there and he immediately asked me to lay down sexual sin and I'm thinking man what does that have to do with me staying clean like come on man can I just gave away all that dope can we just deal with one thing at a time and Jesus is like I don't want 90% of you I want all of you and then he backdoors it with imagine what your life could be like if you just got all the way in so he asks us to do things that at times don't make sense at times seem like a big hassle and what is this gonna actually do but this is how he is and it's laid out in the scriptures right here and then they went and took this took that took dipped it out and presented it to the took to the the ceremony master he's asking them to do something that could cause them it exposes them to risk and ridicule like if I go and present water to this master of servants not only are we gonna be a laughingstock for running out of wine but you just gave me a cup of water like what is wrong with you like he's exposing the to risk present presenting that water to the master as if it was wine like that that could that was risky that was risky he's gonna ask us to do risky things he's gonna ask us to do things that put us out there maybe you want to heal somebody maybe you want to God's place a gift of healing on you okay and then you see someone sick or injured and you go over them and say be healed in Jesus name well what if they're not healed what if I'm made out to look like a fool what if you have a prophetic word for someone but you're scared to say it to them because what if it's totally off what if what if it's wrong what if he asks us to get out there and trust him he asks us to have faith in him he asks us to do hard things and that's what I want you guys to to get down in your down in your heart man down in your spirit this walk is not going to be easy but this walk is so good it's it's it's simple but not
easy it's difficult but it's so rewarding because I'm telling you there's nothing that touches being used by God verse 9 when the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine not knowing where to come from he called the bridegroom over a host always serves the best wine first and then when everyone has had a lot to drink he brings out the less expensive wine but you've kept the best until last this is a profound statement it's a theological statement it describes the entire gospel story right the world offers its best first it offers pleasure it offers achievement it offers money success the things of the flesh but they're always a disappointment in the end they never fulfill although they always promise to fulfill sexual sin and pornography and all that you just think that you're gonna be so fulfilled if I can just get this one thing this one person this one little set of circumstances and then it never is it never is and then you want more you want more extreme you want it's just a it's a vicious cycle that's the world but but Jesus brings the best last the kingdom's wine gets better and better and better and it always fulfills and it always satisfies so that's just a few nuggets that I got out of John chapter 2 verse 1 through 13 the Jesus's first miracle guys you can be his next miracle you can be his next miracle right now you can you can surrender you can get all in you can lay down that thing that he's been telling you to lay down but you've been ignoring it because what does it really matter I mean I'm going to church I'm doing I'm reading my Bible but I don't want to fight against that sin I don't want to wage war against that sin I don't want to strive to live a righteous life I want to say to you what he said to me imagine what your life could be like if you just got all the way in one time father we love you and we thank you we praise you Lord for all that you've done all that you've done in our lives all that you're doing and all the people who are watching God we We just wanna just exalt your name today. We just love you so much. And God, I'm just praying a blessing
over everyone who's watching. I'm praying exceedingly and abundantly above all they can think or ask over whoever's watching. And God, I pray for a convicting spirit of what do they need to lay down? What do they need to do? You're always calling us higher. You're always calling us to more. And God, if there's anyone there that doesn't know you that's watching, God, I pray that they would just call upon the name of Jesus says in Romans, anyone who calls upon his name will be saved. If you've never done that, it's just that simple. You can just cry out to him. You can just say, Jesus, I'm calling on your name because your word says that anyone that calls on your name will be saved. And I might not understand it, and I might not can explain it. I might not even believe it, but I'm holding you to your word. And you say in your word that anyone who calls on your name is saved. So I'm saying I'm a sinner and I need you, Jesus. God, I pray that those people that wanna, they're thinking about saying that prayer could realize what a powerful prayer that that is. That yes, you turned water into wine, and that was an amazing miracle, but you can do even more and more impactful,
amazing miracles than it can be right now with the next person that calls upon your name. And so we thank you and we love you. And we just invite you into our lives to do what only you can do, in Jesus' name, amen. Whose house? God's house. Let's give him some praise. I saw, what's up, what's up life That's a penalty Come on till we all stand up on our feet and get ready to worship Jesus. Come on All Jesus we come to worship you this morning Come on listen to this song Come on can we let our faith arise in the room this morning Come on can we let our worship arise through our key Oh Jesus we worship you Lord And we sing, wake my soul and sing Sing His praise aloud Sing His praise aloud Oh, wake my soul and sing Sing His praise aloud Sing His praise aloud Oh, we come to glorify you Lord Jesus Our Savior, our King We come to lift you up Lord We sing There is a sound that changes things It's the sound of His people on their knees Oh, wake up you slumbering Come on can we sing that again
There is a sound, there is a sound That changes things It's the sound of His people on their knees Oh, wake up you slumbering It's time to worship Him Oh, wake my soul and sing Sing His praise aloud Sing His praise aloud We awake our souls to bless you Oh, wake my soul and sing Sing His praise Come on Sing His praise aloud We awake our souls Come on, would you just praise the rise of the Lord this morning? To the King of Kings, to the Lord of Lords. Come on, let's all worship for us, to our Savior. Oh Jesus, we've come to bless you. Every time we lose you, Lord, you start opening doors. You start making way. Something happens when we praise you. We sing, cause we knew. And when we pray, what's done is done. Now there's a way where every promise is paid. Come on, if you believe that, would you sing that with me? And when we lose, make no mistake. Begin to say, all hail the Lord, all hail the King. Oh, it's pretty blue. And when we pray, what's done is done. Now there's a way where every promise is paid.
And pretty blue. Make no mistake. Don't lose the light. All hail the Lord, all hail the King. So we sing, hey. All hail the Lord. We sing, hey. Fall down on your knees and worship Him. Hey. Let His praise rise up. Don't hold it in. Don't hold it in. Awake my soul and sing. Sing His praise up. Sing His praise up. Awake my soul and sing. Sing His praise up. Sing His praise up. Oh. As Edison says, I saw the Lord seated on His throne. He was clothed in glory, exalted high in the train of His robe, filled the temple. And I believe that the same Savior is in this room. And how many know that where God exists, where Jesus exists, darkness cannot also exist in the same place. Change cannot also exist in the same place. Bondage cannot also exist in the same place. So I don't know your story. I don't know what you're experiencing. I don't know what you're going through.
But I want to encourage you today that on the other side of your worship is freedom. On the other side of your worship is breakthrough. On the other side of your worship is wholeness. Come on. So we're going to go back into this bridge. And I want you to sing this with me. Sing it like the Lord is about to set you free. Come on. Let's sing it. Oh. And when He moves and when we pray, we're still alive. Come on. Where every promise is yes and amen. This is His word. This is His word. Come on. Let's sing it. And when He moves. Make no mistake. The bounds of hell are held in awe. Are held in awe. Come on. And when He moves. And when He moves and when we pray, we're still alive. Come on. And when He moves, we're in a heaven pounding. It's yesterday night. Jesus, we're standing on Your wondrous morning glory. And when He moves, make no mistake. The bounds of hell are held in awe.
Are held in awe. I hail the Lord, I hail the King Holy Magi, fire and sand, I hail the Lord, I hail the King I hail the Lord, I hail the King I hail the Lord, I hail the King So if you'll wake my soul and sing, sing His praise aloud I'll sing His praise aloud I command my soul this morning, awake my soul Come on, command your soul this morning Sing His praise aloud Come on, can we just command our souls to bless Jesus this morning? Come on, command our souls to bless the Lord Thank you, God I'd love to sing about You, Lord Your name is highly on my lips I'd love to sing about You, Lord I'd love to sing about You I could sing Your name for all my life And still find more to love each time Jesus, be the name ever on my lips It's sweeter every time that I call There's just something about Your name There's just something about Your name There's just something about Your name That makes me cry There is no other name There is no other name There is no other name Jesus, You're worthy Come on, we sing

Come on, sing it in vain, this is Jesus Jesus, the bread of life, who came for us The wounded and the worthy one The first, the last, this music of Jesus Jesus, the King, the one, the well, the great The one, the will, forever reigns The name, the love, all other names, Jesus Jesus be the name, Jesus be the name Jesus be the name, the good song, the glory Jesus be the name, Jesus be the name Jesus be the name, the good song, the glory Jesus be the name, Jesus be the name Jesus be the name, the good song, the glory Jesus be the name, Jesus be the name Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus Jesus Get over here, we're just gonna start praising the name of Jesus Come on lift your voice, lift your hands We are here to sing about the Lord and what He has done Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus Jesus, Jesus, Jesus The morning light, the morning light The one, the darkness came tonight The resurrection and the life Jesus, Jesus, Jesus Your name can save and Your name can heal Your name can make the stormy sea You'll never fail, You'll never fail Jesus, Jesus, Jesus Who could ever worry one
The first of us, the children's us Jesus, Jesus, the King Who overwhelmed the grave The Lord who will forever reign The name above all other names Jesus Jesus be the name, Jesus be the name Jesus be the name, the good song, the glory Jesus be the name, Jesus be the name Jesus be the name, the good song, the glory Oh Jesus be the name Jesus be the name Jesus be the name Oh Jesus be the name On our lips, Lord On our hearts, Lord Gets all of the glory Glory You get all of the glory You get all of the glory You get all of the glory You get all of the glory Jesus There's no one more holy than you God, there's no one more worthy than Jesus. That at the mention of your name every knee bows, every tongue confesses that you are Lord. God we give you glory, we recognize you as the worthy one and as your God. There's no one like you Jesus, there's no one like you Lord. It was my cross you bore so I could live in the freedom you died for. And now my life is yours and I will sing of your goodness forevermore. Worthy is your name Jesus, you deserve the praise.
Worthy is your name Jesus, worthy is your name. You deserve the praise and worthy is your name. Worthy, worthy. I'll tell you what it's like Lord. And now my shame is gone, I stand amazed at your love unto my own. Your grace goes on and on and I will sing of your goodness forevermore. Worthy is your name Jesus, you deserve the praise. Worthy is your name, oh worthy is your name. Jesus, you deserve the praise. Worthy is your name Jesus, you deserve the praise. Worthy is your name, oh worthy is your name. Jesus, you deserve the praise. Worthy is your name. We're exhausted now and this has been borne. Here's this place, come on can we sing now? You're the name above all names, we're exhausted. You alone deserve our praise. You're the name, we're exhausted, we're exhausted now and this has been borne. Here's this place, come on can we sing now? You're the name above all names, we're exhausted. We're exhausted now, as your glory fills this place. You're the name above all names, we're exhausted. We're exhausted now, as your glory fills this place. You alone deserve our praise. You're the name above all names. We're exhausted now, as your glory fills this place. You alone deserve our praise. You're the name above all names. Oh. You're the name above every name.
There's no one like you Jesus, there's no one beside you. Oh, there's only one, oh one. Worthy is your name, Jesus You deserve the praise Worthy is your name Worthy is your name, Jesus You deserve the praise Worthy is your name Your son will live The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way And as he was going, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering So he asked them the hour when he began to get better And they said it was the hour that Jesus had told him, go and your son will live And I don't even think that's just prophetically about physical illness I think for some of you, you have sons that are spiritually sick That are not living for God And I wanted to just share this word with you Your son will live He will live in Jesus name And this must be just for this service because literally as we were worshipping, the Lord just dropped John 4 in my heart And so I just want to pray for a few things in the room this morning If you feel like, hey that resonates with me Whether your son is physically sick or you have a son that is like a prodigal and he's away from the Lord Can we just lift up our hands if that's you Not to embarrass you, I just want to pray for you I see a few people Let's all just pray as a church family Lord, I pray God that your kindness draws men to repentance So I pray Lord that it would be your kindness that would draw the prodigal home in Jesus name I declare in faith, your son will live And we ask God that you would give all the parents in the room discernment Give them wisdom, give them insight, give them understanding And Lord give them faith to believe for miracles in Jesus name
One more thing, if anybody has a physical need in the room You need physical healing, can you just lift up your hands We've prayed all morning for this, I see you, I see you If you have anybody next to you that has their hand raised We believe here at Life Fellowship in the power of the laying on of hands So if you could just grab their shoulder if it's okay with them We just want to pray and intercede together Lord, I plead the blood of Jesus over every need in the room I pray God that you are the ultimate healer, you are our great physician You are Jehovah Rapha, you are our healer So we pray God that you would come and have your way and heal every sick body in Jesus name Your word says that the enemy is overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony So I testify today and I plead the blood of Jesus over every need this morning You know exactly what we're struggling with, exactly what we're dealing with So Lord I pray that you would come and have your way in the hearts and minds of everyone here In Jesus name, Amen Amen church Hey real quick, before you are seated we're going to pray You know today, this weekend is Memorial Day weekend So we just want to honor all of our military personnel that have fallen in battle And if you have any loved ones that you've lost to battle through their service We just want to pray for you, we want to pray comfort over you, we want to pray blessing over you So if that's you, could you just lift up your hands and we just want to pray God's peace Lord I pray over everyone that has lost a loved one due to their service for our country And I ask God that you would bring comfort, that you would bring peace, that you would bring your great love Over them this weekend God We honor all those that have fallen have served and that have lost their lives. I am reminded of John 15 13, what greater love than this, than that who has, than those who have laid down their lives for one another. So we honor those that have fallen today and we pray comfort and peace over their families in Jesus name.
And everybody said amen, amen, amen. Hey, as you take a seat, tell somebody they look good. And you can turn your attention to the screen for some announcements. Happy Sunday and welcome to Life Fellowship Church. We're so glad you're here with us today. If you're new, tap your phone on the tag in front of your chair or if you're joining online, text the word new to 51010. We'd love to help you get connected and show you everything happening around Life Fellowship and what's coming up next. Hey, if Life Fellowship already feels like home, serving is how you can make it home for someone else. From kids to students, behind the scenes, there's a spot with your name on it. Jump in and be a part of what God's doing here. If you've been coming for a bit but still feel a little on the outside, this is your move. Life groups are where this church starts to feel smaller and more personal. Find a group, show up and watch what happens. In Matthew 6, Jesus says, where your treasure is, there your heart will also be. So giving isn't just about money, it's about alignment. It's about saying, God, I trust you with every part of my life and every week we see what that fruit produces. Lives being changed, students finding purpose, families being strengthened. That's what your generosity fuels. So as you give today, do it from a place of faith, not pressure. Thank you for responding as God leads you today. Hey, before you grab your seat, turn to someone next to you, give them a high five and let's prepare our hearts for all God wants to do today. Enjoy the service. All right. Hello, Life Fellowship. Come on. I know that if you didn't feel that worship, there might be something wrong with your heart. You might need to get one of those little defibrillators hooked up because it was phenomenal over there. I'm telling you what, it was breaking me. I love our worship here at Life Fellowship. Absolutely phenomenal. So before we get started, I just want to look back here and say a big hello to everybody that's watching online, all the men and women in the correctional facilities. We love you. You are part of this church family. All right. We are in week number two of a series called Built on the Rock. And the title of the message today is called A Church on Fire. I absolutely love this. Acts is where we're going to be teaching through one of my favorite books of the Bible, and it is so deep with theology. So before we get started, just let me pray for everybody. Thank you, Lord, for this amazing opportunity to be able to minister here, to be able to love your people, to be able to speak, Lord. I just pray that any words that are of me would fall to the ground and be null and void, Lord. But anything that is of you would
be transformative, Lord. It would create boldness and strength and courageousness, Lord, for people to step out and receive healing and look towards your guidance, your love, your restoration, Lord, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen and amen. All right. So what does a church look like when it's on fire? I'm going to say fire quite a few times today. My wife makes fun of me all the time for fire because I was born in the south, raised for a while in the north. So when I say fire, it sounds weird. So I'm going to say fire a couple of times. My wife laughs every single time I say it. It's just a little tick. All right. We'll start off in Acts chapter 2. It says, On the day of Pentecost, all believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly there was a sound from heaven, like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. So let's stop right there real quick. So it was the sound of this mighty windstorm. The Greek actually talks about how it was so powerful. It was like a tornado. It was like a gale force wind that was coming through, except there was no wind. There was no destruction. There was nothing that got toppled over. It was just the sound. It was the Holy Spirit announcing his presence there. And so it's actually calling everybody over to this area where Peter and the apostles are at. And it said, Then what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. At that time, there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. When they heard the loud noise, Everyone came running and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers. They were completely amazed Now here's there's there's some doctrine out there that talked about how the gifts of the Spirit were only For the Apostles during their time. Well, this scripture actually disproves that right out of the gate Because how many Apostles do you have when this is being written? There's 11 and there's getting one and there's gonna be one that's gonna be added here shortly And so if you go through and look at all the languages that are being spoken There's a lot more than 11 languages and it says that also there was an ecstatic murmuring which means there was just in a It was people that were so ecstatic that they just let out murmur. They just let out Moans and groans because they didn't know what to say
So they were saying Lord you take this and you turn it into something beautiful because I don't even know what to pray right now So I'm just trusting that you're going to take these words and you're gonna turn them into something beautiful And so you have all of this going on and people are coming over there and they're up in arms What the heck's going on with all these drunk people running around here and Peter jumps in right away He says it's nine o'clock in the morning. We're not drunk He said but watch what happens Because Peter being filled with the Spirit He is completely transformed and he has the ability to now speak into the group a little history on Peter real quick is Peter Wasn't chosen by the rabbis to go into ministry Back in Jewish culture when you were getting raised by the time you were eight the rabbi had to decide whether you were going to become Minister or whether you were gonna have to go off into a trade because you weren't smart enough Peter didn't get chose by the rabbi So guess where he wound up as a fisherman right So he steps into the trade world and starts working over there because he could not pick up the scripture in Torah class like the other kids could and So immediately he's feeling like he's disqualified for stuff But then Jesus steps in and at the Last Supper He tells all the disciples that were disqualified that he chose That he chose them to step in and do ministry and that they were going to be qualified and that everything was going to be Revealed when the Holy Spirit came upon them. And so now you have Peter who's stepping in he's been filled with the Spirit and His first sermon he's gonna give is right now after he's been filled with the Spirit He's stepping in and he's corralling the people up that are diving in and they're saying hey, what's going on? And so what does he do? He turns to the Prophet Joel and he quotes him first and he says in the last days God says I will pour out my spirit upon all people your sons and daughters will prophesy Your young men will see visions and your old men will dream dreams in those days
I will pour out my spirit even on my servants men and women alike and they will prophesy And so he's explaining to them how this was foretold By the Prophet Joel and then he goes in and starts quoting King David So he knows he's reading his his his group the people that are all coming to him He knows that they all love King David. They're all back in the Prophet Joel He said and these are the the scriptures that God's outlining to be able to talk to this demographic And so he says quoting King David. I see that the Lord is always with me I will not be shaken for he is right beside me No wonder my heart is glad my tongue shouts his praises my body rests in hope For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave You have shown me the way of life and you will fill me with your joy and presence so he's talking about the importance of being filled with the Spirit and how King David how Joel how everybody identified this even from the old days and It's touching base with his current demographic, but then watch how the Spirit is able to read the room because what happens next in chapter 3 is Peter and John step into the temple and As they're stepping into the temple There's a lame man that's been sitting at the temple gate for 40 years Scripture says and he hasn't been able to walk he gets carried there all the time and he's begging for money Each and every single day. So Peter and John walk in and the first thing they say is when he raises his hand up He asked for money and they said money gold and silver we do not have but what we do have is be healed in the name of Jesus and They grab him and they lift him up and the text it's written by Luke which Luke was a doctor And so the Greek text actually means that the bone the knobs on his ankles and knees clicked back into position is what the Greek text says they actually clicked in and there was a physical reattaching of the bones and then he jumps up starts praising God and the text tells us he goes into the temple with Peter and John which is extremely important because in that time the Sadducees were the ones that were in charge and so let me tell you real quick the difference between the Pharisees and the Sadducees one of
my mentors gave me this cool technique Pharisees they love all Old Testament they have the written law the verbal law they believe in miracles that believe in the resurrection they believe in all the prophets the Sadducees they focus more on the Torah they don't believe in miracles they don't believe in the prophetic they don't believe in any of that stuff so they are sad you see that's how you know the difference between Sadducees and Pharisees all right so the Sadducees are actually the leaders right now it's kind of like Congress when you're at the when you're at the Sanhedrin right sometimes you get more Republicans you get more Democrats it's just whoever's voting in well this is how it is right now the Sadducees have the most seats in the temple and so they're the ones in charge so they don't believe in miracles they don't believe in the miraculous what's going on but now all of a sudden this guy who has been lame for 40 years sitting outside their temple he's walking in with John and Peter they can't deny it it just happened right in front of them and so they're confused they're like I don't know what to do with this and Peter being Peter you know back in the gospel he had what was called foot-in-mouth disease the only time he opened up his mouth was to pull one foot out and put the other foot in he was constantly stepping on toes in the in the Gospels but then in acts when he's filled with the Spirit he is elegant he knows scripture he's able to speak based off of reading the room he's able to show love he's able to know exactly what to say to people so what does he do now when him and John step into the temple and the Sadducees start to rally up and they're like what are we gonna do there's a healed guy right here we just saw the healed guy get healed and they're trying to talk amongst themselves to figure out how they're gonna refute this and what does Peter do he says this is sermon number two I'm stepping up and preaching and I'm gonna show these guys what the Lord is revealing to me and so one of the the best verses I just absolutely love the way he does this is he doesn't condemn the Sadducees in fact he seeks repentance from the Sadducees and he says in verse 16 through faith in the name of Jesus this man was healed and
you know how crippled he was before faith in Jesus name has healed him before your very eyes then he goes into his mic drop moment he said friends I realized that what you and your leaders did to Jesus was done in ignorance now if you read this in scripture you might just blow right by it and not even realize the significance of what he just said right there what he's doing is he's referencing numbers 35 and he's talking to Sadducees so he's referencing the Torah when he's talking to Sadducees and it's numbers 35 it is the chapter that discusses cities of refuge you guys all know the chapter right cities refuge no I'll explain it I just found it out this week to cities of refuge there's six of them in Israel and what happens is if you commit manslaughter which is unintentional murder you can flee to a city of refuge and be protected if you commit first-degree murder there is no place that you're safe they have what's called the Avenger of Blood which is the immediate family member and he is authorized to legally kill you if it's first-degree it doesn't matter if it's manslaughter if you step outside of a city of refuge the Avenger of Blood has the legal right to kill you the cities of refuge they provide protection so you can have your court hearing if you are convicted of manslaughter then you have to go live out your time in one of these cities of refuge until the high priest in Jerusalem dies and when the high priest in Jerusalem dies everybody is redeemed and allowed to go back to their land why is this important to the Sadducees because the claim now is made that Jesus is our city of refuge that he is our high tower. He is our hiding place. He's the place we run to for safety. And so he's making the statement here that Jesus is where we're gonna run to where we're gonna get that safety from. And when he passed away on the cross, what did he say? Because all of our sin, a lot of our sin is intentional.
So it would actually be first degree murder, right? Most of our sin is we know what we're doing, but yet we're doing it anyways. It's intentional. But Jesus said on the cross when he was dying, forgive them for they know not what they do. He just turned our first degree murder into manslaughter and qualified us for the city of refuge. And not only that, but then when he passes away and dies, he is the ultimate high priest. And we are immediately qualified for the city of refuge and then immediately redeemed in Christ. This throws the Sadducees up into a whirlwind. Sadducees don't know what to think about this. The only thing they can do is tell him, hey, please get out of here and quit talking about this Jesus. They don't take them. I mean, Peter is bold. They don't take them and say, hey, we're gonna throw you in jail or do anything. No, they don't even want them around. They're like, just get them out of here, please. Because we can't have anybody else listening to this stuff. And so you see Peter doing this and then watch this transition of what happens with Stephen. Because Stephen shows another portion of being filled with the spirit. And it's the unity, it's the love,
it's the dedication that he has for people, but he also knows how to be bold and speak as well. And so in chapter six is where I wanna start with Stephen. It says, the Greek speaking believers complain about their Hebrew speaking believers saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food. So let's stop right there. The Hellenistic or Grecian Jews is what it is, is they're complaining that the Hebrew Jews are not taking care of their widows, right? So the apostles are sitting around and they say, all right, well, here's what we're gonna do. There is church drama right now and we don't have time for this. So we need leaders to step up and deal with the church drama right now. Take care of the people, take care of everything that's going on. And so they charge the church to find some leaders. And so who does the church go out and find? Well, it says one of the first guys they find is Stephen, a man full of faith in the Holy Spirit. But do you know what Stephen also is? A Hebrew speaking Jew. They were just complaining about the Hebrew speaking Jews not taking care of the Grecian Jews, but yet they go get a Hebrew speaking Jew to take care of them. Why?
Because of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit is radiating through someone, they can feel the love. They feel the anointing. They know that Stephen is gonna take care of them because they see it. In fact, when you read down at verse 15, when Stephen gets taken in to trial against the Sanhedrin, it says, at this point, everyone in the high council stared at Stephen because his face became as bright as an angel. It was undeniable the presence of God on Stephen. So it didn't matter what ethnicity he was. It didn't matter what color he was. It didn't matter whether he was a Hebrew speaking Jew, a Grecian, a Hellenistic Jew. It didn't matter. All that mattered was he was filled with the Holy Spirit. And they said, that's who we need to take care of us. That's our leader. That's the one we want up front right now. I'll share one more thing and I gotta get back on track. I haven't even done point one yet. Some of you guys have got the notes out. Six points on there and there's eight minutes left. I'm sorry. I ran down a rabbit trail over here. They took a break back there at the slides. They're not even sitting back there anymore. Well, let me get back on here.
So number one of a church on fire is a church that is prepared for God's presence. Acts 2.1 says, on the day of Pentecost, all the believers were meeting together in one place. This is extremely important because Pentecost was 50 days after Passover. It was the celebration of first fruits. It was the celebration of the law being given at Sinai. right so on the day of Pentecost you have an outpouring you have surrender you have people celebrating this great Jewish feast and the big thing is is that Christ fulfills all the symbols of Pentecost or of firstfruits through Pentecost this is at Sinai God formed a nation at Pentecost God birthed the church at Sinai God wrote his law on stone tablets at Pentecost God wrote his law on human hearts at Sinai there was deliverance from the Egyptian slavery at Pentecost there was deliverance from slaves from sin and just as the first fruit celebrated the beginning of the harvest Pentecost marked the beginning of God's great spiritual harvest there was 3,000 that were saved at Pentecost at the giving of the law there were 3,000 that were killed because they were worshiping idols so you see the stark difference between the law and the spirit can I encourage somebody today that the Lord doesn't work randomly he picked that day for a reason in fact Galatians 4 4 says when the time was right God sent his son God knew when the season was ready God knew when the people's hearts are ready you can't create revival through talent personality or programs real revival comes from heaven when a church truly loves Jesus holiness matters surrender matters repentance matters the Word of God matters and unity matters Acts 114 says they all met together and were constantly united in prayer right non-stop they were lifting each other up in chapter 4 when they're getting persecuted by Sadducees they all get together and they say Lord hear the enemy's threats and give us your servants great boldness preaching your Word may the miraculous happen in the name of
Jesus they're united they're not tormented by what's going on they're bold they're confident and they're stepping out and Psalm 133 1 says how wonderful and pleasant is it when brothers live together in harmony verse 3 goes on to say in there and there the Lord has pronounced his blessing he's talking about unity right here one vision one mission one passion and that's Jesus Christ so when Jesus Christ becomes your your agenda your passion competition dot pride shrinks and the kingdom purposes rise I believe that God is still searching for chunk churches that are hungry still searching for churches that are surrendered for churches that are unified that are prepared for his presence to be poured out because when people prepare the altar God will send the fire number two is a church on fire is filled with the Holy Spirit acts 2 2 through 4 says and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit notice how they were all filled men and women young and old servants and handmaids is what it says it wasn't just the apostles that were filled with the each and every single person see a church on fire is a church where every believer comes and becomes engaged in ministry every single one of you has a ministry whether you realize it or not and it's not just a show up on Sunday hear the word and go home and live like a heathen the rest of the week number three a church on fire loves the Word of God acts 242 all the believers devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and the fellowship see a church on fire is Bible centered truth driven and Christ exalting that's why one of my favorite verses is at 1711 I say it all the time when I'm out at the North Campus is where the Jews of Berea were appraised over the Jews of Thessalonica because not only did they stare intently at Paul and Silas when they were preaching but it says they went and fact-checked and pulled the scrolls after every single day that's the scripture that says pull your Bible out read your word build your own relationship fact-check everything that's that's taught don't believe me because I've got the mic grab your Bible open it up and find out for yourself dive in the Lord will speak to you just as easy as he speaks to me all you got to do is open your scripture and read
Jeremiah 29 says his words burn in my heart like a fire it's like a fire in my bones I am worn out trying to hold it in I can't do it anymore he's saying it he just can't even contain it it's so much excitement when I think about this I think about my grandbaby all the time because the first chance I get I'm gonna show you pictures of my grandbaby when you come up up I went out and got him a little go-kart I know he's seven months old my daughter was my daughter was like why does he need a go-kart for us and what does he not need a go-kart for it's got a little remote and I can control it around he just he just sits in it and looks at me the whole time he's driving around I absolutely love it but I get so excited talking about my grandbaby I want to show everybody pictures I want to talk about him all the time because it's it just fires me up and this is what Jeremiah is talking about with the Word of God he's saying did you see and see what I read today see what the Lord spoke to me today listen to this revelation that God has given to me today it should be pouring out of you people should see a physical shift a physical change in you because the Spirit is flowing out of number four is a church on fire is a praying church Acts 114 says they all met together and were constantly united in prayer see prayer invites the presence of God it precedes power miracles and breakthroughs prayer is what changed Peter he focused on praying and inviting the Holy Spirit in and he went from a coward to a conqueror number five a church on fire walks in holiness first Peter 116 says you must be holy because I am holy see holy fire purifies this word that it uses this is kind of like a forge and the way the forge works is you stick the sword into the hot fire once it gets so hot it boils up all the oxygen the defects the nasty stuff that's inside and starts to bring it to the top you pull it out you beat on it and it releases the toxins and the different things that are causing the sword to be weak and then what you do is you stick the sword back in and you continue to burn it and then you pull it out and beat on it again this is what the fire does is it purifies so many people think that revival is supposed to be something that's just fuzzy and nice and we're all just gonna get together and we're just gonna cry and worship the Lord and there's gonna be a massive revival revival is not like that revival brings conviction in the room because without conviction you're not willing to turn revival is the fire that burns the filth out of you and says are you done yet or do you want more revival produces conviction and when the spirit moves sin will get exposed repentance happens and hearts are broken before God if there wasn't conviction there would be no desire for holiness without that desire to seek repentance to get that filth off of you there's
no desire for holiness I don't care what you say number six a church on fire witnesses and transforms acts 1 8 says you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witness telling people about me everywhere see the spirit did not merely come to make believers emotional but to make them effective acts 247 says in each day the Lord added to their fellowship there he had a healthy fire that was getting stirred fire needs oxygen fuel and heat to grow and in acts it shows us that the spirit was the oxygen the gospel was the fuel and the transformed lives was the heat source so what does the church on fire look like it's obedient it's united it's spirit-filled it's Bible Center prayer saturated holy evangelistic Christ exalting and life-changing what I'd like to do is finish off today a little bit different than normal I've invited the worship team up here I'm just gonna ask that all of you around the room you bow your heads close your eyes I want to challenge you the world doesn't need another cold church it needs churches burning with truth holiness compassion power in the presence of God but the question remains are we willing to become surrendered vessels praying believers, holy disciples, bold witnesses. Is the season ready for life fellowship? Is the season ready for you? Are your hearts prepared? Are you all willing to be bold in here? This is the place to be bold. If you can't be bold around a bunch of other believers, how are you gonna be bold the second you walk out of these doors? So I wanna challenge you. That feeling of the spirit, you need that fresh feeling today. If you're saying, Lord, I want the boldness of Peter, I want the boldness of John, I want the boldness of Stephen, I wanna step into the calling, the anointing that you have for me,
I want people to see your presence radiating off of my face. I want them to see the love, the grace, the humility, the forgiveness pouring off of me because of your spirit, because of your presence that radiates in and through me. If that's you, I'm gonna ask you, be bold, stand up. Yeah, I need it too, each and every single day, I need a fresh anointing, a fresh feeling. So what I'm gonna ask is our prayer team to come up to the front. You've already been bold and you've taken the first step and you've stood up at your chair. Be even bolder and step out. If you're a leader, if you're a group leader, if you're an elder, come on down here and help pray. Lord, I just lift up these, your mighty warriors that are sitting down here, Lord. So thankful for their hearts, for their desires to search you out, Lord. Lord, I pray that scales would drop from eyes, from ears, from lips, from ears, from ears to ears, from lips to ears, from lips to ears, from lips to ears, from lips to ears, from eyes, from ears, from hearts right now so that they may be able to see you, hear you and feel you right now, Lord. Lord, pour your spirit from the top of their head
to the bottom of their feet right now, Lord. Fill them afresh, fill them new, Lord, that they may be able to experience your mighty anointing here right now in this place, Lord. Lord, come in here and have your way. Hear the enemy's threats and give your servants great boldness in praising your mighty name, in Jesus' mighty name. ♪ Break all walls down ♪ ♪ Spirit break out ♪ ♪ Heaven come down ♪ ♪ Oh Jesus let your spirit break out ♪ ♪ Break all walls down ♪ ♪ Spirit break out ♪ ♪ Heaven come down ♪ ♪ Heaven come down ♪ ♪ Spirit break out ♪ ♪ We need a touch from you, Lord ♪ ♪ Would you fill us with your spirit once again, Lord ♪ ♪ Just like in the beginning ♪ ♪ When your spirit moved over the waters ♪ ♪ Come and move in this place, Lord ♪ ♪ Oh, spirit break out ♪ ♪ Break all walls down ♪ ♪ Spirit break out ♪ ♪ Heaven come down ♪ ♪ Let your spirit break out ♪ ♪ Spirit break out ♪ ♪ Break all walls down ♪
