Mercy Culture Conference 2026 | Session 3 | Clay Ingram
Yes. [BLANK_AUDIO] That was last night, Chris, it's like 7,000 people were released tonight, I was like, dang. [BLANK_AUDIO] This is the Super Bowl of Mercy. [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] >> Hi, welcome to session three of Mercy Culture Conference. We are here in MC Lobby. I'm Guy Colwell, and you've been seeing my wife Sidney, and we are the family department leads for the online campus, and this is Michelle. >> Hi, I'm Michelle, I help with MC communities and online, and now I live here in Fort Worth, so. >> Yeah, we've kind of had the opposite journey. We were in Fort Worth whenever I was going to college, and then we moved back out to West Texas. And then they were in California and then moved back to Fort Worth pretty close to the same time that we did. And so it's just been this beautiful journey. There's been many times where we've watched conferences or watched Sundays online. So we just want to encourage y'all, press in in these moments, and really just allow the Holy Spirit to come into your space. Today we have some special guests, Lynette and Todd Wheeler. If y'all want to come out when we're going to talk about MC communities and just kind of what all that has to bring. But first of all, I forgot to do this, we do have our merch winners. So Kelly Gonzalez and Meghan Ulmer, y'all are the merch winners. So we will get those, that merch y'all and stay tuned in the next session. And we will tell y'all who wins the next round of merch. >> We're having another merch giveaway. >> Yes, yes, did you hear that?
>> And you can only get it here. So this is your opportunity to win, so stay tuned and we will get you y'all's merch. >> Can you drop down below where you're watching from online? We want to see, we want to hear where you're watching from. And please just make, make where you're at, a holy ground. Because the Holy Spirit, when you give him the entire room, he wants to come. He wants his glory to be known by you. And there's nothing that can take that away from you. And so we, like Guy was saying, press in. We all know what it's like to watch online, to be in our cars, to be in our houses. To even have your headphones on and be on a walk and encountering the Lord and the Lord Jesus wants to encounter you today. >> Yes, all right, so Lynette and Todd, why don't you tell us who y'all are, what y'all do, cuz y'all are so pivotal to this campus. >> My name's Todd, this is my wife Lynette. We're from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. And I work for a company up there, and it is a rep agency for HVAC equipment. And Lynette? >> Well, I don't do a whole lot anymore, I wasn't a mortgage broker. But I serve with the online campus. And do you want us to tell us about how we found Mercy Culture? >> Yeah, yeah, that would be great, I would love to hear. >> Sure, I'll start off with, I got sent home to work from home, because they did a lockdown, Canada went really hard core. >> And during COVID. >> During COVID, sorry, and 2020 was around February, March. I received a phone call from our old pastor, who had moved back to the states after being in Canada for 40 years, and he said, Todd, what are you doing for church up there? I said, honestly, every church shut down.
And he said, you're gonna check out this Mercy Culture, Pastor Lan and Shaw, he's the real deal. So that afternoon, I opened up my Google search engine, Googled it, found the previous week's service, and I started watching it. I watched the praise and worship, saw this young little lady named Jasmine just on her knees crying, worshiping the Lord. And I'm just like, I got goosebumps on my arms, my hair standing up. I can feel the presence of the Lord in my office. And I'm like, this is for real, like this is honestly. So after I watched it, I went downstairs and settled on that. You gotta check this out, but Pastor Johnson told me to look. >> Check it out, yeah, and like he said, we were all locked down. We were the atmosphere in our nation, and I'm sure other nations was just filled with fear. And we were just crying out to the Lord, because we knew what it was. We decided this was going to be a service that we weren't just going to sit and be entertained by church and, you know, sitting like a movie. But we joined in right away. We treated it as our church service. We lifted our hands. When people were lifting hands, we knelt when people, you know, when we were instructed to kneel, whatever. We wanted to participate as if we were there live. And that's how we treated it. So, a period of time, there's just us. And then one by one, our kids started to look picky through the door. What are you guys wanting? Mercy Culture. So they'd sit there for a while and then they got hooked. And we had our family in our home. And everyone saw me get a phone call from a friend. Hey, what are you guys doing for church? Oh, we're streaming the service. You want to join us? Yeah, sure. Come on over. And the house started filling. It started filling, started filling. Then we had enough kids. We made a children's church in the basement and then our living room and dining room got full. So I went in the back to a media room and I got that all set up for another TV. So if we had overflow, people could go in there. And it was just very, very organic. But it was a very strategic time for us and those people because it was hope. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Y'all had overflow in your home. That's amazing. I mean, spiritual and physical. So what would you say makes communities different than a watch party? Because I know there's a lot of people here that are watch parties who are like, "Well, what is the community? What does that look like?"
Yeah. So how communities started, we didn't really know what we were. We were just meeting and worshiping the Lord and having, you know, encountering His presence. And we reached out to Mercy Culture saying like, "Is this okay? What we're doing? Like, we're streaming the service. We're not pastors. We don't feel called to be pastors." And through a process of time, the leadership prayed about it. And the Lord said, "This is a Mercy Culture community." And we really felt that it was tied in with the word that Pastor Heather had about "How is this on fire?" Right. And so that's where MC community or Mercy Culture communities came from. And we started recognizing we found San Jose. He was doing the same thing as us. And it just slowly moved around from that. But a watch party is, you know, people joining together, welcoming the Prince of the Lord in their home. But it's not necessarily a weekly commitment or a cadence to it. It's more centered around maybe a group idea. Gathering together as a group on a regular basis, but not necessarily, you know, a Sunday service. Whereas a community, it's where you hear the Lord, you feel that tug, and you desire to gather with other believers, like-minded believers, to stream the service live, join in the service, and gather together in this presence. Yes. Yeah. That's amazing. I know Lynette mentioned she's looking at me saying San Jose, "My husband Julio and I, before we moved to Fort Worth for almost four years." We also, just like Todd and Lynette, we hosted service in our house from San Jose, California. And then when the Lord said, "It's time to move here," we did. And now there's still leaders hosting the presence of God in a location just for the glory of God. And so that's a question that I have, Todd and Lynette. What if there's somebody watching right now that is so interested in what you're saying? I want to host the presence of God and invite other people into my house, but I don't feel qualified. What would you tell them? How would you encourage them? I would say if you're A, you're saved, and B, you encounter the Lord, and you have the Holy Ghost inside of you, and that you are qualified. And if you hear a voice saying that you're not qualified, maybe that's the wrong voice. Yeah, I'm just going to add to that. If the Lord is prompting you, obey his leading. Oftentimes, we hear, "I can't do this. This is not for me." But it's not the voice of the Father that's talking like that. And so if you're feeling that desire to encounter the Lord with other people, reach out to us. I'm not sure how they'd reach out to us, but you can give them that information. But, yeah, you can text communities to 590-90. We could never use that because we're international, so I always forget that. Yes, community is 590-90. But there's a phone number that you can text. Yes, there is a phone number. And so I can just even attest to the leadership that Lynette and Todd have had in my wife and I's life. We were leaving Fort Worth, and we're praying and fasting. Where were we supposed to go? Sydney was actually an SLS with Lynette, and she was like, Lynette's telling me about this community. This group of people in Midland, Texas, and that's about an hour away from me.
And so we joined their community and threw some pushing, Lynette and Michelle actually both are like, what do you feel about your small hometown? I mean, we have a thousand people in Sterling City, Texas. It's between two major cities, but I mean, it's, it's a small town and we're like, okay, Lord, like he really began to give us a heart. And so it doesn't matter where you're from. It doesn't matter how big or how small. I mean, San Jose, Saskatoon, Sterling City, Texas. I mean, they're small towns, but where you are, where it says, where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there in his presence. There's some Sundays where it's just me and my wife and our kids, but we know that he is there. And so I'd encourage you, if you feel that tug, if you feel that burning, and even I want to speak to people that are young right now, I'm, you know, I'm 25 years old. There's a lot of college campuses. I've got friends at A&M. I've got friends at UNC that are watching. And they're saying, we want this on our college campus. So if you're on a college campus and you have this burden and you want your classmates, you want this at your university, please reach out. You are qualified. You are called to do this. So please, please, please reach out. That reminds me of--
You just need to be willing. Yeah. That reminds me of a community in Tucson. And they literally started in a gym. One of the members said, hey, I have a gym. Let's meet up the gym. And they would rearrange the workout equipment. And they would encounter the Lord in that space. So there's really no limit if you can meet with a person physically to just welcome the Holy Spirit and join in. Exactly. Yes. Yeah. Well, thank you all so much for joining us. We are so grateful to have you all on. Yes. All right. That reminds me of joining online. You can just text connect to 590. And there's an entire online community. Online is a church campus from Mercy Culture. And you will get plugged in. There's small groups. You can potentially find even a community in your own area. You can find friends and build that family and Mercy Culture and really help people go from corporate encounters with God to daily personal encounters with God, right? I mean, some of our best friends are online. We get to stand maybe once or twice a year, but we are there.
We're in community. We're having phone calls, texting each other. So if you feel like you are lacking community, you don't know where to go. Online is a campus. I mean, it took forever for me to know that it was a real thing. And when you hear it on Sunday, they're like, we want to help welcome our online campus. It's not just people watching on YouTube. There are-- it is a living, breathing campus. There are people. There are groups. There's so much that you can get involved in. So I'd really encourage you. If you feel that, if you feel any inkling, just reach out. It could be the beginning of exactly what the Lord is calling you into. So we hope that y'all enjoy this next session. We are expectant for what the Lord is going to do. And we're just so excited and so grateful that we can hear-- Let us pray for you. Just in this last couple of seconds, Lord, we ask Holy Spirit that you reveal Jesus to everybody right now, God, that you would feel there wherever they are, that you would feel their places, Father, with your tangible presence, God. We glorify you, Jesus. We love you.
We magnify your name, Lord. There is nobody like you. Would you touch your sons and daughters right now and give them an encounter with you that will change them from here to forever and for generations to come. Be glorified in Jesus, mighty name. Amen. Amen. Well, we can't wait to encounter God with you in this next service. We'll see you there. Yup. Bye. [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] come on can we bring the energy up in the room are you expecting for this afternoon well my name is Nate I'm one of the pastors here at Mercy culture and the founder of for Liberty and Justice where we seek to mobilize the church wake up cities across America and take a stand in the governmental realm for Liberty and for Justice this is pastor Chris our director of for Liberty and Justice how many you know we need Reformation in the United States of America 100% we we want to share a little bit about this house vision I'm so proud to work with pastor Chris our for Liberty and Justice team here and we're really honored that we have a church that believes we're not supposed to stay in the four walls but we're supposed to get in the fight do you believe that how many you know the battle for our country is not political it is in fact spiritual so we want to tell you a little bit about our house vision and what it looks like and how you can take that as well over the last five years we have been fighting alongside this church and our partner churches to bring Reformation across the country and I want to share some wins how many you know that we as a church are called to take grounds and make sure that we can raise up a child in the way that they should go and the government has no right to stand in the way of it so I know you're gonna get excited as I share this but over the last five years we've gotten to be a part of banning gender modification for minors in the state of Texas banning the abortion pill trafficking in the state of Texas banning biological men and women's sports in the state of Texas come on do we believe God can do this for the entire country well we have a blueprint that we've worked on for years and this blueprint no one can take credit for it it's from the Holy Spirit it's the people of this house that have come before the Lord and have found this blueprint and I want to share some of
the wins and how many victories we've seen so we support friends and family candidates inside of this church and our partner churches what does that look like we believe that we are called to send righteous men and women having no we empower women in ministry and in government we believe we're called to send righteous men and women into government to fight on our behalf so check this out over the last five years we have seen over a hundred and fifty friends and family candidates when locally elected office across Texas and across the country if you have those wins go ahead and put them up there so that we can show because we're expanding across the country so not only have we seen over 150 victories but listen to this we are expanding over 16 states this year we have a blueprint to help empower your church to get in the fight I just wanted to declare really quick and I believe that you're gonna declare it with me California is not lost the best days are ahead for California hey let me say this New York City is not lost the best days are ahead for New York City do we believe the darkest places in the world can still see revival can still see reformation this is the time to a pastor Chris tell us about what that looks like on a practical level yeah so few practical ways you can text Liberty to five ninety ninety and you'll find the various options of how you can get engaged but here's the thing you were placed in your state you were placed in your region you were placing your county and in your city for a purpose Jesus calls the church what the salt of the earth and the light of the world so when you are in your city you are a salt salt's contextually what does it do it preserves why should Christians get engaged in politics because you are the preservers of society of your city and of your nation when you text Liberty to five ninety ninety you have a few options you can join a group or start a group and then you can also launch a chapter pastors churches those who attend a church listen to me launch a chapter in your city what this does we educate and equip you to raise people up in office to take territory in your area to mobilize people to be advocates for Liberty and justice yeah so one last final call and this is so important the last great revival we saw in America was
from the 1960s to the 1970s it was called the Jesus movement are we grateful for God's great revival I want to give a warning and it's a prophetic warning for us if we don't engage in the political realm. Do you know that the 1960s and However, it was also the year we saw Roe v. Wade. It is when no fault divorce was approved across the country. It is when prayer and scripture were taking out of schools. What's the message? If we allow a spiritual revival to sweep across our nation and we don't get into the fight for reformation, we might win souls, but we will lose the country for the next generation. How many of you know it's time to get in the fight today? Come on, do you know it's time to get in the fight today? Okay, so I want to challenge you right here right now, text Liberty to 590. Let's launch a chapter at your church today. Let's take ground and let's go be reformers across the country. To be clear, the church is in the middle of revival in America. The moments that you're experiencing here at Mercy culture conference do not grow too familiar when the presence of the God of the universe shows up in a room to encounter you. So here's the thing, will you just encounter the Lord in the four walls of a church and leave your city dying? So this is what we're saying, revival is happening in the church, but reformation is to take place out of the church. That means you take your encounters with the Lord out publicly because abortion is a spiritual issue, transideology is a spiritual issue, politics has become spiritual. So the option to not get engaged is no longer an option for Christians. Amen? All right, let's all lift our hands high in the air. Everybody say, make me a reformer. Say, Holy Spirit, the same way you're reviving the church, would you revive America? Would you reform America?
Say, I declare reformation, now name your city, whatever it is, for worth. Say it again, I declare reformation, say your city in for worth. We declare godless, wicked ideologies will not be increased in this nation. We take a stand right now for our nation, and we say the enemies, war will be lost. We declare the foothold of the enemy will lose. We declare Jesus is the highest authority over America. (audience cheering) I see some Dallas people right there. Hey, if you're driving past the Dallas campus to come to Fort Worth, what are you even doing? Okay. Pastor Les, our elder, the campus pastor of Fort Worth, we honor you, but still, if you're driving past Dallas to get to Fort Worth, what are you doing? I love what the Lord is doing in Dallas. We meet in a 120 year old. Used to be a Catholic church. It has been sanctified by the blood of Jesus. There's beautiful stained glass windows.
You can't turn the lights off. I've grown, it was super. I'm used to this, and when we first got in there, it's like, this is just so weird, but now I love it. It is my preference, Lord, I want to be in sanctuaries everywhere I go, but we just go where He wants us to go. Hey, before I go on any further, I wanna honor our pastors, Pastor Heather and Pastor Landon shot. (audience cheering) Yeah, stand your feet, let's honor them. (audience cheering) (audience cheering) Pastor Heather say and stop, stop it. I feel like that when people are clapping for you. It's a weird thing, just receive that gift. I hate opening Christmas presents in front of people, 'cause I don't ever have the proper, I'm not like expressive like that, but I'm sorry, Pastor Landon, Pastor Heather. Guys, this is crazy what the Lord is doing at Mercy Culture. And my wife and I, we've been a part of this since the very beginning, and I would just tell you that our journey at Mercy Culture has been just lots of uncomfortable steps, getting called in to things, always making me feel uncomfortable. Pastor Landon is wild. He asked me to be a campus pastor,
he asked us to pastor a campus before I had ever preached. That's not crazy, he's like, we'll worry about that later. God said that we're doing this. Speaking at this conference, me and Pastor Landon were on our campus pastor retreat and we're passing each other, and he's like, hey, I feel like you're supposed to speak at an MC conference. And I said, are you asking me or are you telling me? He goes, I'm telling you, and I want you to speak on communion. And just to be candid with you, this would not be my preference. And people, I feel like sometimes don't get that. It's like I would rather just be sitting in someone else doing this because this makes me uncomfortable. But I'm submitted to this house. I trust that Pastor Landon hears from God. And for whatever reason, he asked me to speak a message on communion. And so in that moment, it makes me uncomfortable, but I trust in the Lord has given me a message, and I get to release that message to you today. Here's the thing, it's not about wanting or not wanting to have a platform. It's totally okay if your desire is to do something like this. For me, it's just not my desire, but I'm obedient.
God speaks, we encounter him. The vision of this church is corporate encounters with God to daily personal encounters with God. And if you start encountering God on a daily basis, he's gonna start whispering to you. And you say yes. And then God will lead you into places that you never expected. Maybe you didn't even want it, but it's always better and bigger than anything you can ask for or imagine. And so I just feel like I need to encourage somebody. You need to say yes to God today. Not just at the altar, like yes, when you go get your barbecue, he's gonna whisper something to you. Say yes, and last but not least, the most important thing today. I wanna honor my wife, Lindsey. She's sitting here on the front row. I think, yes. Do we have a picture? There we are. This is my family. Guys, we got married this year. We, I always wanna say rededicated. We renewed our vows this year. So we've been, we're coming into our 17th year of marriage. The first, sorry, I just, we went from exciting, but I'm just gonna test.
I'm not gonna tell our testimony, but I do need to testify. 'Cause Pastor Heather's been telling us, we gotta tell our testimony. That's not what we're preaching about today. But I was unfaithful to Lindsey for the first eight years of our marriage. Okay. in hiding these things, thinking that this will all get taken care of, this will all surely get sorted out when I can get married, 'cause I've grown up in church and I just had these things hidden. And then in 2017, my stuff comes out, I get caught, and this is the worst and best day of my life. I didn't know it was the best day of my life at the point, it was a scariest. And guys, put that picture back up. It is by the grace of God that I have a family today. It is only God, and I just wanna prophesy over some marriages today, over some people that are in bondage, you can be free. Your marriage can be healed. It does not matter what you've done. If you were caught or you confessed, God can step in and He can change everything. He's so good. Shall we? Shall we get on with things? Somebody needs to testify. God is so faithful, and I want you to know
that He doesn't just love you, He likes you. And the shame that you're caring because you're dealing with sexual perversion is a lie from the enemy, and God wants you. And if you'll have it today, His mercy is towards you. You just have to receive it. All right. We're gonna be in Revelation two, starting in verse two. We're gonna be talking about communion today. I know your works, your toil, and your patient endurance. This is endurance, Jesus is describing the church at Ephesus. And how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not and found them to be false. I know you're enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary, but I have this against you that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember, therefore, from where you have fallen. Repent and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place unless you repent. This you have, you hate the works of the nicholations, which I also hate. He who has an ear let him hear what the spirit says to the churches, to the one who conquers, I will grant to eat the tree of life, which is the paradise of God. Mercy Culture Conference, I came to tell you today that communion keeps you connected to first love.
And the title of this message is communion, a return to first love. Let's pray. So Holy Spirit, we thank you for your presence in this room. Lord, I'm asking that you would become strong in weakness. Lord, we don't make room for you in this place. We give you the entire room. We don't just welcome you, God. We say we want you. Lord, would you help me? Lord, I want to represent you well today. I just feel like the thing the Lord has been saying is just jump in the river. Like let the river flow. So Lord, would you do what only you can do today? We say to anxiety, to shame, to distractions. We rebuke you in the name of Jesus. We say the Lord rebuke you. Come and have your way today, King Jesus. Amen. A few weeks ago, if you don't go to Mercy Culture, Dutch Sheets came and released a prophetic word over this campus, just so I can see who wasn't here for that, quite a few people. So I'm gonna read you the important part, but at the end of the second service, he pulled up Pastor Landon and Pastor Heather and he started prophesying over them. Some of these things were specifically for them. Some of it was for Mercy Culture.
A lot of it was broadly for the body of Christ. And so I just wanna read you a portion of what he said. Happened right here. It was such a powerful moment. The Lord says, come up higher. I have things to show you. I pull you up into a new place of favor, strength, spiritual power, humility, and to find my heart. You've not found it yet, but you will find it. I had to take you from stage to stage. It is for the nation and the nations. Take off all limitations. I have things for you to do, remove all restraints. I'm about to raise up the most radical generation that the earth has ever seen, the most passionate generation. I will form and reform and shape and reshape. Come up higher. You're going to build what others have prepared the way for. Four runners that have plowed the ground and now I need faithful builders to reap where they did not sow. I need builders to sustain what I'm about to do. It must be a strong and deep foundation. This is the part right here. This is a deep reminder of what will sustain it all. Never, ever, ever leave your first love that will sustain you through all of it. I must have a first love generation. I must have a first love movement in this nation.
That's a powerful word. And I wanted to open with Revelation two because Revelation two is this picture of the church at Ephesus. And they were doing a lot of things right. They're working hard. They had endurance. They had moral conviction. They had discernment. They protected sound doctrine. They persevered under pressure. They were doing it in the name of the Lord. They had longevity. They even hated what God hated. And this is all commendable. This is all good. This is all holy. And this is a great church. We're talking Ephesus here, people. I love Pastor Ben Meckle. Where are you? He helps plant churches with mercy culture. But we're talking Paul planted this church. Timothy ministered at this church. Apollo's ministered at this church. John was at this church. And the thing that gets me is that he says, I have this against you. You have abandoned the love you had at first. If this church can somehow walk away from first love,
could it be that we could as well? It is my deep conviction, that communion keeps you connected to first love. And my heart leapt if you were here for the second service when Dutch Sheets was prophesying. It was just this thing. It was just bearing witness with my soul. God is about to do something. About to do something. We think that he's doing something now. I just feel so strongly that he's about to do something. The part that we can't comprehend, that I believe that the world has never seen. So we have to understand this today. And I need you. I have a part that I'm playing as I release the word. But also you have a part. You need to lean in. You need to lean forward. And most importantly, the Holy Spirit has a part. Will you ask him, ask the Holy Spirit to come and convict you, to come and speak to you? And sign the check before you know the amount. Will you just do that in your mind right now? Will you just tell him, I'm in Lord. I'm saying yes, whatever you ask of me. I'm saying yes. I grew up in a church in Amarillo, Texas. And I knew from about the age, this is like seven to eight, I really desired to receive Jesus into my heart.
And there were three specific reasons I remember vividly as a child. The first one was I don't want to be in hell separated from my family. Anybody else? Did anybody else have these scary demonic haunted houses? Was that just a Baptist thing? Did y'all do that? You go to these haunted houses. And I think it was called Heaven's Gates Hell's Flames. Like, that's your choice. And it would be this reenacted car crash. And then these demons, I'm a seven year old, these demons would come and take away the person that just died. And it's like, you want to do that or do you want to go to heaven? And it's like heaven. Reason number two, at my church, there's a swimming pool. And it sat right underneath the stained glass window, right above the choir loft. And I knew that people that receive Jesus in their heart, they get to go swim in that thing during church. And then the third big reason was that our 6PM service, we did communion. And I was the only person, I'm the youngest in my family. So I would watch that plate go past me. And my brother, my sister, my mom, my dad, they would all get the cracker and the juice. And I love juice, OK? I love grape juice. I love crackers.
And they would all partake. And so you put these three things together. Jesus, would you come into my heart? This is the way we think about communion. This is the way we're in the Bible Belt so we can laugh about these things. I think it's more challenging here sometimes because you have to convince people that they're not saved so they can get saved. And so I want us to dive right into the deep end. lots of viewpoints on. It's kind of like one that, you know, everybody has a different thought about it, and I just wanted to give it to you guys, and I want us to walk through it, and I think if we can just jump into this first, it's gonna just make the journey smoother once we get over it. First Corinthians 11, 29, anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many are weak and ill and some have died. That's intense. Am I going to die if I don't take communion? If I don't discern this properly, the Greek word for discerned is diacrino, and it means to distinguish or tell one thing apart apart from another. It carries the sense of recognizing something for what it really is and treating it accordingly.
How am I supposed to take communion? Maybe you grew up in a different tradition and like a priest fed it to you. There's lots of different beliefs around communion. A few months ago, I went to an Anglican church service in Dallas, Texas. They had the midweek service. It's not too far from our campus. I've never been to an Anglican church. So let's do this. I'm sure it's similar to Mercy culture, and so I go to my first Anglican service. It's full liturgy. Like we read everything. Everything is read like we're kneeling, we're getting up. There's like a thing that folds down and you kneel down. People are saying, I'm just keeping up. It was hard to keep up. There's, you know, it's like meet and greet time. And everybody's saying like this specific blessing, and I don't even know what they're saying, but they're saying it to me. I'm just like, you too. And then at the very end, it's time to take communion. This I know, I know how to take communion. We can take communion. But I had never seen communion like this before. Okay, so the priest, he gets the bread. He breaks it. He like puts it in front of his face.
It was like a peekaboo. He's looking at everyone. He hands it to his attendant, and then everybody lines up the mini priest, the junior priest, the sue chef priest. He handed it to him and we all line up, and then he breaks the bread and he gives you a piece. And then it's like a you thing, like a you formation kneeling bench thing. For some of you, this was maybe normal for you. It was not for me. And so I go up and I'm right in the middle, and I kneel down, and I'm waiting. I have my cracker, and I'm kneeling down just waiting. And so he's starting on this side, and he has a chalice. I don't know if it's wine. I don't know if it's grape juice. And people, everyone's just drinking from the chalice. Is this normal? Y'all seen this before? Everybody's drinking from the chalice. It's just going around, and I'm just sitting there, praying in my heavenly language, judging everybody's dirty lips. Pretty sure that guy was coughing during worship. And it comes next to me, and this sweet lady is right here, and God bless her. She's probably 92 years old. This is probably someone's grandma.
Even if it was my grandma, I don't want to drink after her. She takes a drink from the goblet. He wipes it off, and here he comes, and he's standing right here in front of me. And I just am, do I even like communion? Am I even saved? And then in this moment, the wisdom of Solomon comes upon me. And like that chalice was a bowl of salsa, I just dipped my chip in it, I took it. (congregation applauding) And I got out of there. Did I do it right? I don't know, maybe I did. Maybe I didn't. But this is kind of an intense scripture, and you got to think about it. How do you take communion? I mean, has it been a good day? Has it been a bad day? Is it just a kind of a bad day? Or is it a really bad day? Did you struggle? Did you relapse? And if so, when is it appropriate to take it? And think of the confusion around this. So I've been, you know, think I go to mercy culture, and I'm a pastor, and I rattle off seven straight days of personal encounters. Maybe I'm not fully aware that I need to be covered
by the blood, but then I'm capable of taking it. Then you got a person over here that like is in shame, and they need a reminder of what the blood of Jesus has done for them, but yet they can't take communion. So what does this mean? I want to give you some truth, first John 1-8. If you say you're without sin, you deceive yourself. Do you recognize that you need to forgive yourself? If I was Pastor Jasmine, I would start singing to you right now. Even on my best day and on my worst day, I still need the blood, I still need the blood. That happened to Dallas. That song came out. I'm still waiting for it to hit a track. Guys, there's gold, like nine bridges into most of our songs. There's just these little nuggets of gold. That's one of them. On your best day and on your worst day, you need the blood of Jesus. Isaiah 64, 6 says, "All of us have become like one who is unclean. And all our righteous acts are like filthy rags. We all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind, our sins sweep us away." Philippians 3, 7, "But whatever were gains to me, I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. Paul loses everything willingly. It doesn't matter if he's rich, if he's poor, if he's fed, if he's hungry. I consider it garbage," he says, "that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law or your works. It's only the righteousness of Jesus." The communion is the recognition of this, and it changes everything.
If we will recognize, do you recognize your need for the blood? I know this is a Christian conference, so people paid money. You're probably, I'm assuming a lot of you are doing well in your walk, but do you recognize that you need to be covered on your best day by the blood of Jesus? And I promise you, this changes everything. Just to block away from us in Dallas, there is a gay mincepah, and it's interesting on a hot Sunday that you just got to line around that thing, and these guys will come walking by the church. I can make a safe assumption sometimes that that guy's probably been at the spa, but I want you to think about this. We could have this mindset like, "That guy needs the blood of Jesus." As if what I'm insinuating is, "I don't, he does." Everything shifts and changes. When you get this in your head, "I need the blood, he needs the blood," and let me tell you about what he's done for me. It changes the perspective. We need the blood of Jesus. In Dallas, the Lord has asked us to, this is an ignorant yes, and I'm not saying that the other campuses need to do this, but the Lord just asked us in Dallas to take communion every week, and it's like, "Yes." I asked Pastor Landon, I was like, "Hey, I feel like this is what the Lord is asking." Pastor Landon's like, "Go for it." And I said, "Yes, this, I don't think I understood what we were getting ourself into, but there's something that happens when you continually look at taking communion. And when you take communion, there is a biblical, proper way to do it, and if we do it this way, you're going to get a revelation of who Jesus is on a regular basis. You're going to recognize it, you take communion a lot, and then you just recognize your need in a deeper way that you need to be taking more communion. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11, 28, when we come to this table, we ought to examine ourselves. Where are you engaged with sin?
Where are you engaged with unforgiveness? See if you have undelt with sin in your life, or you're hiding something, you've made space for the enemy. There's no way around it when sin happens. It's a natural response, you want to cover it. And the enemies counterfeit when he, if we're not going to deal with our sin the way that God tells us to deal with sin is shame. And we go into hiding. Communion is this thing when we come and we remember, we examine our hearts. It's an opportunity for us to take that place where there's shame and let God in because He's not mad at you. The enemy is using that shame to disconnect intimacy between you and God. The enemy does not have any power over what Jesus has accomplished on the cross through the blood, but He can deceive you so you come into agreement with shame and then you do it on your own and you go and hide from God. Communion overcomes this. If we judged ourselves, this is verse 31, if we judged ourselves we would not be judged. When judged by the Lord we are disciplined so we're not condemned with the world. So we're not talking about eternal judgment here, we're talking about weighing what is right and what is wrong. God is asking you, He wants you to judge yourself. Have you thought about this? You come to the table and take communion. And then he also says, so lovingly, if you're not willing to judge yourself, he's gonna do it for us. And when judged by the Lord, we are disciplined. I want to remind you that God disciplines those that he loves. And so we're not condemned with this world. No one gets away with anything.
For the longest time, God gave me so many opportunities to take care of my problems. And I was not willing to. And then eight years into my marriage, everything comes to the surface. And God's like, hey, you're not gonna do this, but I love you. This is gonna sting a little bit. But I'm gonna help you. God wants you to judge yourself. I see it like a lawn. And in your lawn, just weeds pop up. And every day I walk out, and if I'm tending it, I'll just bend over and pop out a weed and throw it out. If you let that go on for 10 years, you gotta mess. You're gonna need some professional help. It can get messy. But God is saying, do this regularly. Take communion on a regular basis, and you will take care of your soul. So if we're not taking communion properly, we're not dealing with sin. Communion crucifies your flesh. God wants you to deal with sin in your life. And so what happens when we don't deal with sin? James 1.15, it talks about sin, desire, temptation, giving birth to sin and sin growing. And then when sin is full grown, it gives birth to death. When we open ourselves up through sin to the enemy, we give him a foothold.
He gets in, the enemy's strategy with you is to still kill and destroy. Every time you take communion, you have an opportunity to shut that door, invite God in, confess your sin, receive His mercy, receive His healing. Communion is confession, it's repentance, it's healing, it's transformation, it's a renewed mind, and it crucifies the sin that we carry. 1 Corinthians 10, 16, the cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break is it not participation in the body of Christ. This word participation, coinonia, it means literal participation or social intercourse, benefaction, we become the beneficiaries of the work of the cross. And I want you to know it's not a formula, it's not a supplement, it's not a prescription, go take yourself communion three days, it's gonna clear that thing right up. It's not a prescription, we don't go get buildings because of the cracker in the juice, it's not salvation, but when taken properly, it does something to you, it builds your faith, it develops your meekness and your humility because you're constantly fixing your attention on the meekness and the humility of Jesus. When you fix your eyes continually
on the body and the blood of Jesus, it starts to change you. Who here has seen the movie the Sixth Sense? Who hasn't seen the movie the Sixth Sense? Good, okay? Don't go see the movie, listen to my sermon illustration, don't go see Sixth Sense, okay? 'Cause it's demonic and it's literally the scariest movie I have ever seen. People ask me that question, what is the scariest movie you've ever seen? And my answer is the Sixth Sense. And people are like, that's not even scary. The way I judge a scary movie, I don't do scary movies, anymore. But the way I judge a scary movie is how did that thing affect you afterwards? As like a seventh or eighth grader, however old I was, I think I laid in bed for two weeks with my lights on after watching that creepy kid who sees dead people. Back to our illustration, you have Bruce Willis, who's a child psychologist, okay? And he's working with this kid. Anybody remember that actor's name? I don't hear you guys, it doesn't even matter. You're not gonna see the movie 'cause it's demonic, okay? So this child psychologist is working with this creepy little kid that says I see dead people, and he sees dead people, that's the whole thing. You get to, I'm about to run the movie as well, so you don't go see it.
At the end of the movie, the big surprise is that Bruce Willis has been dead the entire time. He's one big twist, it's like, whoa, I didn't go back and watch it again, but everything makes sense when you go back and you see it through this lens. You're like, oh, that's why no one was talking to you. You couldn't, everybody's so rude, Guys, communion, this is what communion does. When you start looking at the body and blood of Jesus, it starts to change everything. It changes the way you see things. I think you're programming something in your brain just to put on a different lens. And literally, when I'm in creation, I just see things different. Lindsay and I were on our marriage retreat in California, and there's the sunset. And I'm just having an encounter with God as we're watching this sunset, because all I can think about is John 1. The word was with God. The word was by whom and through whom everything was created. And the word became flesh. The word is Jesus. Jesus made this sunset. Jesus picked out these colors. It changes the way you see things. It changes the way you see the Bible. It changes the way I see the Old Testament.
It becomes like my hermeneutic or the way that I interpret scripture because you start seeing it everywhere in the Old Testament. It's all pointing to Jesus. It's all a prophetic picture or it's God creatively preserving his promise through a people because there's a line called Judah that the lion of the tribe of Judah, the Messiah is coming through. And you just start seeing it everywhere. It's almost like scripture all of a sudden makes sense. And this is a good thing. This is what Jesus did. On the road to Emmaus, there's two disciples. Jesus has been crucified. They don't know that he's been resurrected. Resurrected Jesus shows up with these two disciples and they don't know it's Jesus. And they're walking together. And Jesus interprets all of the law and the prophets from Moses for three hours. He sits there and interprets everything concerning himself. This is how Jesus did things. It changes the way you worship. I listened to some songs and I'm like, that's not even worship song. The other day, we were having, we were at our staff, staff vision, staff vision. What is it called? Staff vision week.
We're all in here like a bunch of crazy people just like running around 'cause we're singing the flesh is coming off of me. I can see the flesh coming. That song, it's my first time to hear it. And this is like a go nuts song. Like everybody's just spreading around. And I'm like hyperventilating 'cause I'm getting this vivid image of Jesus on this cross. And every time we see that, it's almost like I'm getting this image of just vividly Jesus, the flesh coming off of his body. So every time we say the flesh is coming off of me, I'm getting this vision of Jesus, it's breaking me, I'm weeping, but I want you to know when you see the flesh coming off of Jesus, it makes it easy for the flesh to come off of me. It changes the way you see everything. So I want to walk you through just quickly, practically the elements. We have the body, we have the cracker, that little styrofoam disc that you get to consume. We pray it's edible, okay? You got Matthew 26, 26. This is the last supper. You know, if you're thinking about this, these people don't know what Jesus is talking about. He's talking about dying, he's like, he's good. Like, I don't know what he's saying, but he resurrected somebody from the dead.
Surely he's not going to be doing this. But Jesus says, while they were eating, Jesus took the bread when he had given things. He broke it and gave it to the disciples saying, "Take and eat, this is my body." And Jesus is saying these words, he's been pointing to this. In John six, Jesus has this moment with the religious teachers. And he says some very alarming things in verse 48. He basically comes these guys and is like, "Hey, you know the thing that you guys keep talking about, "like the manner that God brought in the Old Testament?" Yeah, your relatives, they ate that and then they're dead now. Like they all died, but I'm the fulfillment of that. I'm actually the bread of life. And if you partake of me, you will live forever. And these disciples are like, who does this guy think he is? Jesus just lets this simmer. He just lets them sit for a little bit. Scripture tells us in verse 52 that the Jews begin to argue sharply amongst themselves. The way my brain fills in the blanks is, I bet you somebody came to Jesus like, "Hey, we're getting a following here. "Maybe just dial it back a little bit." That guy's actually started typing. So just dial it back a little bit
and maybe lay your hand on somebody and maybe heal someone. And then I bet Jesus is like, "Yeah, yeah, that's a really good idea." Okay, Peter. And then he goes, and Jesus just, and here's the thing, the first time he makes the statement, he uses the word for eat when he says eat my flesh. He uses the Greek word esthio. And this means just take a single bite and swallow. Very proper, just a quick little bite. And then Jesus, this is how he chimes in. He got everybody's attention. He says, "Very truly, I tell you," hold on. He goes into third person, which is wild. it's a big move from Jesus. Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. And this time he uses the Greek word "trago." And for in this word means it's not a delicate bite, it means to gnaw or to chew. Like a piece of steak that you can't get down, just like you're just chewing it. Jesus doubles down. Jesus is savage with these things. Why does he keep talking about this? Because he's meant to be consumed. What do you pray when we pray the Lord's Prayer? Give us this day our daily bread. Yes, there's some provisional implications of that. But I believe it's Jesus. God, I need Jesus. I need you today. Where was Jesus born? Bethlehem. Bethlehem means house of bread. Jesus was born in what? A manger, which is like a dinner plate for cows. You have the bread of life born in the house of bread. On a dinner plate, Jesus is meant to be consumed. Are you consumed by him? 2 Corinthians 3, 18 says, "And we all with unveiled faces, beholding the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another." Read John chapter 1. Jesus is the manifestation of the glory of God. I love singing about the glory, but are you looking at Jesus? The glory that Moses, I was actually looking at, we weren't going to talk about this today, but I was just looking at it, so we'll just say it. The radiance, when you look up that word, it's a radiance from the source.
The glory that Moses received, if he was the son, Moses is catching some heavy rays, and it's powerful. Jesus is the son. He is the source. He is the manifestation of God's glory. Do we see it? Are you looking at it? 1 Peter 2, 24, "He himself bore our sins in his body on a tree that we might die to sin and live in righteousness by his wounds you have been healed." Are your eyes fixed on Jesus? When you continually take communion, you're looking at the broken body of Jesus, and the truth of Scripture is that I can be made whole because he was torn apart. This is what happens when we take the bread. The blood of my new covenant poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. We see this all throughout the Old Testament. Adam and Eve, they sin. What's the first thing they do? They go and hide. They try to manufacture some fig leaves. God comes along and covers them in animal skin. Why animal skin? Because there had to be blood. This is the first sacrifice in the Bible. God comes and covers them. You see it with Exodus. Israel's been in bondage for 400 years. God's rescue plan is the blood of the lamb on the door post. And let me just say, it wasn't the blood of the lamb on the door post and some, hopefully, some really good activity from the people that are inside. It's just the blood of the lamb. Leviticus 1711, this is the formal institution of the sacrificial system that you see all throughout the Old Testament with bulls and goats and priestly systems. It says, "For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I've given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls. For this is the blood that makes atonement by the life." Hebrews 922, indeed. "Under the law, almost everything is purified with blood. And without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins." This is all pointing towards Jesus, from the garden in Genesis to the garden of Gethsemane, from every door post, from every sacrifice, from every bull, from every goats. This is all pointing towards the coming king that's going to come and shed all of his perfect blood. In Hebrews 912, he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves, but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. Can we get excited about taking communion again? This is the good news. It is the foundation of the gospel. And you look at it, you behold it, every time you take communion. For the rest of this conversation, it feels like a conversation. Talk, sermon. There's one scripture that I felt felt like the Lord just gave me. Thank you. Almost in the same way that the benediction,
like we've been saying the benediction and we're saying the whole piece of scripture now, like what I've been doing is not wrong, but let me just give it to you. First Corinthians 11, 26. For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. Now when I leave communion, a lot of times I'll take this scripture and I'll say, for as often as we take this cup, as we take communion, we proclaim the birth, the life, the death, and the resurrection. And I felt like that's not a wrong statement because we do, but I just felt like the Lord was inviting me to understand why does this scripture just say death? I'm gonna make a statement and then the conclusion of all this will be us breaking down this statement. The one I'm being discipled by is the Holy Spirit. If you are a believer in Jesus, Jesus gave His life for you. You, He sent the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit, that resurrected Christ Jesus from the dead, which is wild as living inside of me. He's living inside of you. The one I'm being discipled by is the Holy Spirit. He's inside of me. The one I'm being discipled to is to look like is Jesus. How many of you believe this book right here? (congregation applauds) Does anybody not believe it?
I'm kidding. Don't raise your hand. Just come to the altar after we can pray together. How many of you believe that Jesus was born of a virgin? How many of you believe that He lived a perfect life? How many of you believe that He died for your sins and was resurrected on the third day and He's sitting at the right hand of God? So does the devil. So does every demonic principality. It's not just about your belief. Is Jesus actually Lord of your life? Pastor Heather was talking about this parable of the virgins. We have a bridegroom that's coming for a bride. And in this parable that Jesus gives us, there's 10 of them. Five get in and it represents the church. Five get in and five don'ts. There's another scripture, Matthew 7, 22 and 23, where Jesus, He's talking about these people that will come before Him. They will have operated in gifting. You went to Mercy Culture Conference. I was on the prayer team, all the things. And Jesus will say, "Depart from me, I never knew you." It's a wild sobering statement. I'm telling you this because I wanna give you your baseline as a Christian. Matthew 16, 24.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves "and take up their cross and follow me. "Self-denial and a cross." Which means death. The foundation of a life in pursuit of God is death to yourself. We'll talk about what this means. Death to my flesh. Death to my desires. 2 Corinthians 11, 3 says, "But I'm afraid that just as Eve "was deceived by the serpent's cunning, "your minds may somehow be led astray "from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. "If you have gotten away from this foundation, "there is a high probability that you have been deceived. "And the enemy is so much more deceptive "than you actually think he is. "Because you can come into atmospheres. "You can worship. "You can respond. "You feel the presence of God "because this table is prepared for you. "But that's no substitution. "Jesus may not be Lord of your life. "You might be deceived. "You're called to die. "As I was preparing this, just in all candidness, "I'm like, this doesn't feel like a fun conference message.
"Like, we wanna do something, "we're gonna run through walls, but this is truth. "And this truth can set you free. "This truth can actually change everything about who you are. "This truth could be the missing piece. "Some of you have been coming to Mercy Culture, "responding to altar calls for the last four years. "And it's not an intention of this house, "but the enemy is deceptive and you can completely miss it. "Maybe today is the final puzzle piece "it allows you to see things differently. "John 11, 25, I am the resurrection and the life. "Whoever believes in me, though he die, he shall not live. "Galatians 220, I have been crucified with Christ. "I no longer live, but Christ who lives in me." Romans 6, 8. Now, if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. I wanna remind you that Jesus was perfectly submitted to God. And Jesus took this very seriously. So seriously, he's kind of rude to his friends. God bless Peter. I love him, I empathize with him. Peter says a lot of good things. He says some really stupid things. You can ask my wife, I say some good things. I also say some stupid things. I process things externally. That doesn't work well sometimes. Okay, it just kind of comes out.
Peter is with Jesus and the disciples. And Jesus is talking to his disciples. He's like, what are people saying about me? And they're saying different things. And he goes, what do you say about me? Peter says, you're Jesus Christ, son of the living God. And in Jesus, in Jesus is like, you're right, Peter. That is who I am. Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you. And I bet Peter is like, I hear from God. I hear from God. And then literally like four verses later. Jesus is talking about how he's gonna lay down his life. And Peter comes up to him and he's like, hey, far be it from you, Lord, like I got you. I'm not gonna let this happen. Jesus' response, get behind me, Satan. You are stumbling block to me. You do not have the mind and concerns of God, but merely human concerns. Why such a strong response? If you'll remember Matthew four, the spirit of God leads Jesus into the deserts where he's going to be tempted for 40 days by Satan himself. Peter and Satan are doing the exact same thing. They're trying to offer Jesus a kingdom without a cross. Life without death. Why do we think that we get to do this in a different way? Are you a disciple of Jesus or are you a disciple of Western church Christianity?
God so loved you that he gave you his son. The son loves you so much that he laid down his life for you in perfect obedience to the Father and the Holy Spirit, God inside of you, we're waiting on him for healing and prophecy and all these things and he does do those things and he will do those things. But maybe the thing that he wants to empower you to do today is to die, to die to yourself. That stuff will come after, but have you died? Have you died to your selfish desires? This is what Satan did to Jesus. It's what Satan's plan is for us. It's in the Holy Spirit wants to empower you today to die to your selfishness, your ambitions and your dreams. The temptation of the enemy to every Christian is some type of Christianity that does not involve death. Romans 8, 29, for those he foreknew, he predestined to be conformed into the image of his son. It is your destiny that you are conformed into the image of Jesus. We take that verse and we flip it. We don't let ourselves be conformed into the image of Jesus 'cause that requires a cross and self-denial. We take Jesus and conform him into our ambitions, my breakthrough that I need. Come be my supplement, come encourage me, come bless this life that I'm living and encourage me today. That's how we treat God.
It's so subtle, but the enemy is so deceptive and we can completely miss it. We can go to mercy culture, we can start kingdom businesses and they can be doing well. But it doesn't mean that the thing that you're doing is actually God's assignment for your life. I believe that God's assignments come on the other side of death. True God assignments come on the other side of death and it's not a one-time death. There's a death to your flesh, there's big moments of repentance, but it is an everyday thing. You have this flesh on until you go to be with Jesus and while you have this flesh, you get to deny yourself. You get to take up your cross. You get to follow him. Where do you not trust God? Is it with your job? Is it, you don't trust him with provision? So I got to do these things to make it happen for my family. Some of you want to spouse, you're sick of waiting. You're not trusting him with it. I'm taking matters into my own hands. It's your prophetic word. God's spoken something over your life and it hadn't happened yet. I got to get this thing into motion. Trust God, God's saying, will you trust me? Dying to self means two things.
Your sinful appetites of your flesh, the cravings of your flesh, lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life. They all fall under that, we all deal with it. And God wants to grace you through the power of the Holy Spirit to crucify your desires, crucify your flesh. And it's the good things. This is the denial part, my dreams, my desires, my ideas, my ministry ambitions. I willingly lay it down at his feet and I present myself to God and say here I am, Lord, whatever you want to do, not my will, but your will be done. And if you're willing to trust God through death, Jesus trusted God through death. Worship team, you guys can come and join me. Jesus wrestled with this. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus went before the Lord and he said, Lord, is there any other way? You have to understand when he went through what he went through and he's about to give his life and breathe his last breath. He's trusting God fully with death. If you're willing to trust God through death, this is where the Lord brings life. When you die, you're no longer producing assignments, the Lord starts handing you assignments. Go and sit at the end of the table, serve, plug in somewhere, don't, you don't have to manipulate and make way for yourself.
Do you trust God that he has a plan for you, that he has a future for you? And the way that you die is you spend your life looking at the one who died for you. Get obsessed with communion. 'Cause you look at Jesus, you look at his broken body, you look at his blood poured out and it does something to you, it'll change things in you. First Corinthians 11, 26, for as often as you drink, eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Jesus is the target and God made him the target because he's the part of the Godhead that became flesh. We have this perfect example of who God is. We can see him, we can look at him, we can understand him. Are you obsessed with Jesus? You're becoming what you're beholding and you can't become like Jesus if you're not looking at him and quite practically communion is just the way you look at Jesus. It's so simple, we don't have to make it complicated. We're just looking at Jesus and I promise if you do it, we'll get to this place like Paul got to in 1 Corinthians 2, 2 where he says, I've resolved to know nothing except Jesus Christ and him crucified. He even says, in fact, I'll tell you two things people. I'm gonna talk about Jesus Christ and him crucified and I'll tell you about my weaknesses. That's it.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Do you trust God with death? That you can trust him with everything. That you can take your dreams, your desires and you can lay them at his feet and say, God, if none of this happens, I trust you. I wanna be satisfied with you. See, some of you have had strings attached. You've been trying to do things and it's just not working out. God's saying, just let go of it. I got something for you, but you gotta trust me. You gotta let these things die. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. Kingdom assignments are gonna be given to those that are willing to die. John 12, 24, very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed, but if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it. While anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Kingdom advancement, what God is doing, his will on earth as it is in heaven happens through death. Communion is the most pastoral, it's the most apostolic, it's the most prophetic, it's the most evangelistic thing you can do when it gets inside of you,
it changes everything. You start to see things differently. It gets on other people. So I opened with this passage in Revelation 2 about first love that sheets prophesied that a move of God is about to happen and the basis of this move is first love. And we have to have first love. felt in the past these desires I need to get back to the passion that I once had and it's bigger than this if you think it's about original desire and zeal go back and read about our friend Peter and see how far that got him first John four ten this is real love not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his son as a sacrifice to take away our sins first John four nineteen we love because he first loved us and what is the first love John 15 13 the greatest form of love there's no higher form than this and someone that is willing to lay down their life for another communion mercy culture conference keeps us connected to first love some of you have taken your eyes off of Jesus and the way that our first love is fanned into flame as we look at his first love you anchor yourself to his first love it'll light something in fire inside of you just like the disciples on the road to Emmaus they took communion with Jesus and their hearts were set on fire and they they started having this moment when they were walking on the road they're reflecting and they're saying that our hearts not burn within us what Jesus has done for you and me his first love you can stand your feet so the way we're going to end today is we're going to take communion and so I want to give us some just a few minutes to move about the cabin I would like for you to just get alone I feel like this is a moment of repentance this is a moment of returning to first love God is going to do something you can come to the altar you can get in the aisles the biggest thing I ask of you is just don't be distracted by others I'll give you a moment to get where you need to get and raise your hand if you need the elements someone will bring them to you you all right are you settled I want to steward this I felt like the Lord wants us to take communion in a little bit different way so I'm just going to steward it to the best of my ability but here's what we're going to do I'm going to read Revelation 5 and I want you to close your eyes okay it's amazing
as a pastor when you tell people to close their eyes how many people are just like just looking at you close your eyes people do this with me will you participate with me will you coin a kneel with me every I close there's this moment in Revelation 5 so John is writing the book of Revelation he's been exiled by the Roman Empire to the island of Patmos and this is where he's caught up in this vision and he's giving us the book of Revelation that I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals and then I saw a mighty angel proclaiming an allowed voice who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll but no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside I wept John said and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside John is weeping the scroll sits in the hand of God and no one in heaven or earth is worthy to open it then an elder leans into John one of the 24 elders in heaven leans into John and says stop crying and look keep your eyes closed he says do Look, see the lion of the tribe of Judah. The root of David has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and it's seven seals. Now you have to understand that for centuries, God's people have been waiting for this moment. The prophets have been talking about it. They've been describing it. And now John is about to see it. Imagine how you would feel. You're about to see the lion of the tribe of Judah. The man of war that we've been singing about all weekend. And John knows his Bible, so he's thinking about what the prophets have said. He will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children shall come trembling. The lion has roared. Who will not fear? Like a lion growling over its prey,
so the Lord of Host will come down to fight on Mount Zion. Joel 3 16, the Lord roars from Zion and utters his voice from Jerusalem and the heavens and the earth quake. Keep your eyes closed. Can you hear it? You heard it. Can you see it? And then John turns around. And what does he see? I want you to open your eyes. Revelation 5, 6 says, "Then I saw a lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of a throne." John turns to see a lion, because it has been prophesied the lion of the tribe of Judah, and he sees a lamb. And I want you to know that God is not contradicting himself. Jesus is the lion of the tribe of Judah, but the way the lion conquered was by becoming the lamb. It's death. Heaven's definition of what it means for the lion to conquer is revealed in the lamb that was slain. Our king did not conquer by avoiding death. He conquered by dying. Every other king wins by taking lives. Our king wins and has won by giving his. My thoughts are not your thoughts, says the Lord. Neither are my ways, your ways. When Jesus knelt in the garden of Gethsemane, it sweated blood, he was conquering.
When Jesus was led like a lamb to the slaughter and never opened up his mouth, he was raining. When he stood silent before Pilate, he was roaring. When they mocked him and pressed the crown of thorns on his head and gave him the mock scepter, he was about to take his throne. When the skin was torn from his back at the whipping post, he was disarming the principalities. He was defeating the enemy. When he cried out, "Father, forgive them," for they know not what they do, and he said, "It is finished," and he gave his last breath. This was the death blow to hell. The way God rules as a lion is laying down his life as a lamb. In the last part of Revelation, we're not gonna see this lamb in heaven, this is imagery. Just like John the Baptist said, "Behold, the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the earth," Jesus was walking up on the horizon. We're gonna see Jesus standing in risen Jesus in resurrected form, still bearing the scars, the holes in his hands, the holes in his feet, the holes in his side, and all of heaven is circling around the throne, which is this cross, this lamb that has been slain, and it tells us in Revelation, the four living creatures, and the 24 elders, they all fell down, and there's a new song according to Revelation that's being sung in heaven, "Worthy are you for you, for you are slain, and by your blood you have ransomed,
people for God, from every tribe, in language, in people, in nation. Then thousands upon thousand myriets, of angels, are all bowing, and they're saying, "Worthy is the lamb who is slain." And then everything that has breath in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea, to him who sits on the throne, and to the lamb, be blessing in honor, in glory, in might, forever and ever. This is what our reality will be, and guys, if you ask the Lord, Scripture tells us holes in hands, holes in the feet, hole in the side. But I believe that Jesus will have scars. Because all of heaven is looking at the scars that he's bearing. That's my sin on his body. That's why I'm here. And until this moment, we take communion. It's all a rehearsal. So here's what I want to do. We're going to take communion. And just like the warning in Revelation 2. This one thing you can be doing everything right. But this one thing I have against you is you've left your first love. And so we're going to worship. We're going to join in worshiping the worship that's happening in heaven around the lamb that was slain right now. We're going to worship for a little bit. And I want you to repent if you've walked away from first love. So worship team, you guys can lead us. And we're here in heaven.
See it all to flow. We crown you now with many crown. You live it's all right. In my heart and in freedom. Jesus, the darling of heaven crucified. In worthy's life. In worthy's life. See it all to flow. See it all to flow. In worthy's life. In worthy's life. In worthy's life. In worthy's life. In worthy's life. In worthy's life. In worthy's life. In worthy's life. We sing worthy, worthy, worthy, worthy of your soul. In worthy's life. In worthy's life. See it all to flow. We crown you now with many crown. You make it all beyond your heart. Jesus, the darling of heaven crucified. In worthy's life. Come on, I just want you to sing out to him. I want you to shower your love on Jesus. Thank him for his body. We're going to formally take communion in a minute, but right now just give him your affection. Give him your attention. Jesus, you're so worthy. We thank you, Jesus. Come on, lift your voice. Lift your voice. Honor him. Worship him. You love him because he first loved you.
[Music] [Music] We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. We thank you, Jesus. So I want you to take the cracker. Communion creates holy ground. I just see some of you bringing this into your home, doing it around the dinner table. Don't worry too much about having the perfect words. Just fix your attention on Jesus and thank him. Communion will create holy ground in your home. Wherever you want to take it, do this often in remembrance of me, Jesus says. So I want you to take the cracker in your hand. And I want you to break it. Close your eyes. Jesus bore our sins in his body on the cross. Jesus, thank you for bearing our sin. My decades of rejecting you, the bondage that I was in, the infidelity in my marriage. God, I thank you. Come on, find your sin on his body. He had 39 lashes, the skin was ripped off his back. He stood humiliated and naked in public. Scripture tells us that he was unrecognizable. He was bearing your sin, my sin. Jesus bore our sins in his body on the cross that we might die to sins and live for righteousness and by his wounds you have been healed. It doesn't make sense. This love doesn't make sense, but I ask you by faith to receive it. We say that shame has to go. Jesus took it on the cross. He says it is finished. Everything is taken So Jesus, we thank you for your broken body. Thank Him and then you can receive the cracker. This cup represents the blood of the new covenants. This blood speaks a better word. The enemy is whispering to you right now, some of you in this room, shame, condemnation, and I want you to know that this blood, if you're in Jesus, if He is the Lord of your life, covers you. You stand righteous in pure because you're covered by this blood. God looks at you and He sees the
purity of Jesus because of this blood. The blood of bulls and goats is no longer needed for the temporary covering of sin because the perfect blood has been shed and it is finished. So lift this cup above your head because it's the highest authority. Lord, I declare that this blood is the highest authority over every mind in this room, over every mental illness, over every fondish. Lord, over every sin, this blood speaks a better word and so to shame we say the Lord rebuke you because of this blood. We say it's only by the blood of Jesus. Jesus' blood is the highest authority over the cities, over America, over mercy culture, over every church, over Islam. Lord, the solution to every problem is in this blood. It is finished, the Lord says. It is finished. Will you align your faith with my finished work? Will you die to yourself and watch what I will do says the Lord. It is finished because of this blood. Now you can take the cup. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] I'm waiting for my love I'm waiting for my love And what can make me hope, hope can Love, love, love Think what can watch Oh, and what can watch Oh, and what can watch Oh, and what can watch Oh, and what can watch Oh, and what can watch

If you have victory in Jesus, put your hands together, just give them praise. If you know you already have a victory in Jesus, like you have victorious church, like you have overcome by the blood of the man and the word of your testimony, if we have victory in the blood, there's victory in the blood, and his blood makes us holy again. We honor you Jesus, we honor you God, all in the world. Our prayer. I'm gonna be our thankful for the life of Pastor Clay, come on let's just honor him. You're a gift, you are a gift to the body of Christ. I'm sitting there watching this man preach and I could just see jokes just running through his head, like he just always has jokes in the chamber man ready to shoot. We honor you Pastor Clay, we honor your testimony, we honor your life, come on let's honor him one more time, and you can't tell me not to do it, I'm gonna do it anyway. We honor you, we love you. Listen y'all we're gonna break out for dinner here now, I hope that you're still hungry after that cracker, but we have food trucks waiting for you just- MC Central, we haven't had the crowd come in yet behind us, but they will be here shortly.
Yes they will. Once again I'm Sydney Caldwell and- I'm God Caldwell. We're together this time, we're over the family department in the online community and we just wanted to say we're so grateful that y'all have been watching and joining from online. We're gonna start off with the merch first and who won, first we'll show you- this is the jacket I got, so I really like it, that's holy on the front, and then God your holy, make me holy, and then we also have this really cool hat, and it also says holy, we have a blue theme going on, and the winners of the merch is Danielle Wade. And Brian Shields. Yes, so congratulations to y'all, y'all have won the merch, and this is- these are some of my favorites, I think it's all really good, but- Oh yeah, the blue looks great, it's like a good kind of faded look already, but man what a session, I love Pastor Clay, you know he's kind of from my neck of the wood or our neck of the woods or West Texas, and so I'm just- I'm so grateful, you know, the Lord has really been talking to me so much about the blood and the significance, not just of the blood but of communion, and really truly getting back to what does this mean, you know, in scripture, but what does this mean to me personally, you know, being covered under the blood, his body being broken for us, and so it's just such a beautiful picture, and I love just the points that Pastor Clay made, it really brought it home for me, and really gave me a fresh revelation and understanding of being covered under the blood, and what it means to partake in communion, and it really- it spurred me on to be taking communion more and to be taking it intentionally, because I think that there's- like anything else, you do it enough and it just becomes common, and so I had this holy fear of the Lord to not let communion become common, not just something that we do. Yes, and even to like the communities that we have watching our online communities that take communion together, we just know that it's a special moment for y'all as a community, but also as a family, you know, our kids, you know, it's a convicting thing to think about like how to take communion, and to really come to the Lord and say like, I know that I have sinned, and I need to be clean, and I need to be pure before you, and taking that communion as an act of just trust, and also realizing how holy he is, and so I came
out with a new understanding of the true holiness and the purity from communion, and what that looks like for us and our family, so we hope that this has gone into your home and to your car, and to your office space, and that you have really just taken the understanding of communion to a different level, and so we also still want to hear in the chat the testimonies from this session, and the testimonies of what the healing power of the blood has done communities if you're watching this back just comment in the chat and share your testimonies with us on that and we might just share some in the next session oh yeah for sure yeah and I like to go back to beginning or before the session if you're in that session and you're like okay I really truly do feel this tug this pool to be a part of a community whether you want to start one or you want to start going to another one text communities to 590 90 it's the beginning of your journey I mean for us it's been a long journey you know two years or almost three years of of being online and we just slowly listen to the Lord so it doesn't have to happen all right now but just take that first step and text community to 590 90 and I promise you that he will begin to to bring people to you like Lynette and Todd were saying you know it's just organic I mean for us you know we we've never really pushed we've just waited on the Lord and you know we're beginning to see the Lord move in West Texas and I know that he will begin to move in your area yes and if you're watching and you have a tug to even find out more about the online community you take online to 590 90 that's our all-inclusive number so if you're really just curious about anything you could just take 590 90 and put a word in there and so if something will come up but also if you are looking to see what ways you connect with God if you're looking to join in membership text connect to 590 90 and that will lead you into everything that you need to know and answer a lot of questions that a lot of people have that we might not even know the answers to so we encourage you to text connect to 590 90 online to 590 90 whatever to 590 yes but we do really encourage you to lean into the message of communion and how that healing power can affect you and your family at home and these communities yeah but yeah so we just want to end in just a prayer and our
benediction and so I'll pray us out if you're into a connection Lord we just thank you for this new revelation on communion we just pray that it'll go into every space that these people are watching from every country every nation every home every car every building even the children that are listening to these sessions is conference Lord would you fill them with your spirit would you fill them with your understanding would you fill them with your discernment Lord we just thank you that we have this opportunity to hear you from Fort Worth in every place that this is live streaming to that opportunity we have that you don't have to be here but you can be listening from anywhere and Lord we just honor you for that and we just thank you for tonight and we're excited for what's gonna happen in the next session yes yes we're so excited for this next session so let's pray our benediction and it's a new nearly updated one and I just love I love what we've added and it says if you are pleased with me teach me your ways that I would know you and find your favor hope to see you all the next session at six o'clock yes join us there you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you
