Jackson Atwood preaches a fire message on passivity with live, spontaneous LF Worship!
Good morning, men and women, it's such an honor and a privilege and a pleasure to get to speak into your life from Life Fellowship Church here in McKinney on the Pando app. It's just blows my mind, technology and how God has brought tablets into the facilities that you guys are in. My name is Logan Williams, my TDC number was 1490218 and I have four numbers after that and no time when I was in there did I have the Pando app. I didn't have the tablets, man, I sure wish that I did because I might have made some different choices. I might have spent my free time differently, you know, and we see as we go into these jails and prisons that God truly is popping off revival. He truly is raising up an army. He's raising up sons and daughters in the facilities behind the wire. It's an amazing thing to see and I truly believe that it's because of the Pando app is one of the reasons. It's really awesome. Hey, speaking of the Pando app, you can tell your friends and family that they can download the same Pando app on their phone and that you can watch the same things that they watch. Y'all can watch the same messages together, the same devotionals, the same teachings. There's books, there's the chosen, there's the Bible recap, and there's probably another hundred things that I don't even know about yet because it's so vast. So tell them to download that and don't forget to like and subscribe to Life Fellowship so that you don't miss anything as we put the videos out. I was thinking about Romans 7, I was reading it this weekend and really trying to, along with the Holy Spirit, come with a revelation for my life and for other people's lives. I'm going to start in just verse 18. It says, and I know that nothing good lives in me that is in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can't. I want to do what is good, but I don't. I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don't want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong.
It is sin living in me that does it. I've discovered this principle of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God's law with all my heart, but there's another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am. Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God the answer is in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Anybody that's tried to walk this Christian walk out, this faith walk out, can certainly relate to these verses, although they might not admit that, right? It's not really something that we admit that, golly, man, I'm having trouble in my flesh. I am wanting to do right, but I'm in a season of life where it doesn't matter how much I want to do right, I still do this other thing. My wife and I lead out a recovery group, a 12-step Christ-based recovery group, and we also have started a region recovery group at the Buster Cole unit. The first step, the admitting that we're powerless over whatever it is that's killing us, that first part, this is the memory burst that goes with that, saying, and I know that nothing good lives within me that isn't my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can't. I don't know if any of you ... I know here in Texas, about 80% of the people that are in prison, it's because of drugs or drug-related things that come along with drugs, addiction. This very thing that we're talking about, and I don't know if any of you have said to yourself, maybe on the unit that you're at, maybe even when you were in the world, that, man, I got to stop doing this thing. I'm going to go back to prison again if I keep doing this thing, yet we still do this thing, and we meant it. Have you ever said that and meant it, but yet here we go again, we're doing it again, and yes, we get arrested again, and yes, we end up in prison again. It's like, dang, man, I saw that coming.
I really, really, really mean it this time, because I don't want to come back yet again. yet we do it again. Can anybody relate to that? Because that's my story for about 20 years and it's super frustrating. Nothing good lives with me. That is in my sinful nature. I want to do right but I can't. But then we read, we continue reading. I've discovered this principle that when I want to do right, I inevitably do what's wrong. I love God's law with all my heart. Like I love Jesus. Like I'm going to open church services. I'm getting baptized. I'm checking all the boxes. Still can't stop smoking K2. Still can't grab that thing every time it rolls by me and turn into a zombie and do all the crazy things that happen in prison, you know, when we smoke K2 or whatever it is that your thing is. It could be pornography. It could be any kind of sin, anger, hate, lust. It doesn't matter. They're all the same destructive. They kill us spiritually. Now they just look different in the flesh, you know. Nobody is going to go to prison for 20 years for clicking on Pornhub.com but it's the same spiritual death. Some of our flavors of sin just happen to put us in places that we don't want to be but it's the same spiritual death and you can feel it on the inside of you. But thank God the answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. Like we can't do anything apart from him and even if we try with all of our effort that we can muster, our good works are but filthy rags. The best example of that is the thief on the cross that literally did nothing. He was a thief his entire life. He's getting executed for his crimes and about five minutes before he died he just said, hey Jesus remember me. I think God was trying to use that as an example, you know, as the first one into heaven under the New Covenant. Did absolutely nothing except, hey remember me. He just believed. That's all that he did. He didn't get baptized. He didn't take growth track. He didn't join a life group. He didn't lead out an unequipped group. He didn't feed the homeless. He didn't do prison ministry. He didn't read the Bible. He didn't memorize scripture. He didn't he didn't do anything, any of that stuff. None of it. Zero. He literally said remember me and then he died and he was
the first one in under the New Covenant. Guys, it's nothing that we do and if we get caught up in this, I have to do all these things before Jesus loves me that we're on the wrong track. That's not the grace of Jesus. Jesus says that while you were still sinners, I died for you and and that is the thing when we can get that into our heart as a as a revelation that we can live from that he even on our darkest moments looked down from heaven and saw all that I was doing when I was shooting dope and and and robbing people and doing credit card fraud and living in hotels and with the prostitutes and all that stuff even and could care less about him. He still looked down and said that's my beloved. He didn't see crazy dope shooting credit card fraud prostitute Logan. He saw 2026 Logan. The Logan he created that's doing prison ministry that he's risen up and is doing things for him. That's who he sees when he sees you and he chooses to die for you even though you want nothing to do with with him and that's what changes us guys. That's what changes us more than any of the effort that we can do any of the stuff that we need to check off. Oh I didn't read my Bible this morning and only prayed for 30 seconds. Gosh man maybe Jesus doesn't love me as much as he did yesterday when I read like two chapters of Romans and prayed for for five minutes. Like that's crazy thinking that we all tend to fall victim to because nothing good lives in me. Nothing in my flesh. Thank God the answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior guys. This is our only hope but but I can I want you to have hope because he saved a wretch like me bro. He pulled me from the domain of darkness and transferred me into his marvelous light and gave me a place at the table and and I never thought that that I would have that. I thought that I was heading back to prison again. for the fifth time and to get my fifth number and who knows how long that one will be I'd probably still be there right now maybe not maybe not I've been saved four and a half years probably still be there thank God man but he's looking for your yes he's looking for you to get all in and yes we you know these scriptures are kind of tricky because it's saying nothing good lives in me I want to do right but I can't and all that kind of stuff we if we're not
careful we can use that as an as an excuse to just keep on sinning to just keep on living however we want to live well those Bible says I can't do anything about it anyway let's say we have to wage war against our sin but knowing that it's not us that's doing it it's him that dwells within us the same power that called Lazarus out the grave that dwells within us we have to have this is so important guys I want to give you all some encouragement man he wants to use you right where you're at in the facility that you're at the crazy place that you're at I was at a prison not long ago there was a guy came came to the altar he can't stop doing drugs he'd been caught multiple times got cases they took his tablet away and basically they made a wing that that was all all the the drug users like this is throw them all down there and and I don't even think the staff goes down there they just let them have their way down there no tablets no you know and he's down there but he's in church and he's like bro like I don't know what to do I'm like man God wants to use you even if you're in a place like that you can be light in the darkness and that's what he wants for you man he wants he wants you wherever you're at because that's where he has you he has you place right where you're at like like bloom where you're planted so he wants to use you man to to to be an encouragement to somebody else to pray for people to start a Bible study to start a prayer circle to who knows what I don't know I know one guy that he just watches the the phones because you know we can have some pretty jacked up phone calls when we finally get through to someone and and he just prays for people that he knows just had a difficult phone call that he knows just had just got some bad news I don't know what he has for you but I do know that whatever it is it's irrevocable Romans 11 29 says the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable they can't be changed or omitted or taken back or or it doesn't change his mind now that's on you it's irrevocable but it's up to us to step into that it's up to us to step into that we're the ones that can revoke it off of us because we don't step into it but if he has it on our life man so if you don't know what that is ask him if you don't have like-minded people around you to do
this walk with you whatever facility you're in ask him to put those people in your life this is so important it's it's hard in there I know it's easier out here to find like-minded people to walk with because we're in a church full of them you know you're in a in a wing door half the people are getting high the other half don't care about God or anything else it's hard to find like-minded people but if you can do it in there man in the face of people talking smack about you in the face of people coming against you in the face of people you know saying you know you're just hiding behind the Bible because you don't want to get down or all that stuff if you can do it in there guys you're gonna be miles ahead out here miles ahead so I hope you guys enjoy this message let me pray for you all father we love you and we thank you I thank you for every single person that's watching this video today we pray that you would let them know that it is not by accident that they are watching this video today that you have called every single person that you are after them you've left 99 to get them and I pray God that that they would just surrender that they would just know that you not only want to save them and transform them but you want to use them right where they're at it's not some far-off when I get my life together calling on your life it's right now you want to use them right now and I just pray God that someone hears that and that someone gets a fire lit in them to allow you to use them in the in the space that they're at right now we love you so much we thank you God I pray that you would bless their families while they're gone to just be a provider to their families that you would be a father to their children that you would be the great physician to family members that are sick or or or injured. God, we just ask for your blessing on all these inmates that you've called that are watching and all of their families. And we love you so much in Jesus name. Amen. Whose house? God's house. And I was in a place where I've gotten so used to going to church and reading my Bible and treating the Holy Lord Jesus like he was normal. And I remember bringing it to my prayer closet and I was like, Lord, why has my heart become so rocky? Why has it become so stony to the precious blood of Christ?
And he said, son, the reason why your heart has become rocky is because your immediate response to truth all these years has been, I know that already. I know that already. And I was reading in Romans chapter one, Paul is writing to the Romans and he says, I am not ashamed of the gospel. And I said, Lord, why would Paul write such a thing? Why would he write, I am not ashamed of the gospel? And the Lord spoke to me, he said, the reason why Paul wrote that is because the people he was preaching to had itching ears to hear other things other than the gospel. And that's the place that I realized that I got to where I would hear the gospel preached, I would hear about the blood of Christ, that it cleanses me, wakes me, makes me white as snow. And my immediate response was, let me, I wanna hear another message. I already know that, I already know the gospel. I already know about the blood of Christ. Give me, I wanna hear something else. Give me something deeper. And the Lord spoke to me, I prayer closet. He said, there's nothing deeper than the blood of Christ. Jesus being the father's only message. Whenever the father spoke in the New Testament, his only message was, this is my son in whom I am well pleased.
And so I got to a place where I was like, this is insane. Like, I don't wanna approach the blood of Christ like it's normal. Like, I want it to do something to me. Like, I wanna read about the crucified risen Christ and have it do something to my heart. And so I began to ask the Lord, Lord, would you just have, would you have grace for me? Would you just pour your mercy over me? And man, am I telling you, am I telling you the good news? When you begin to drink of the blood and you remember the love of God, you remember the passion of Yeshua to go into the depths of hell that while you were a sinner, Christ died for you. That while you were going the wrong way, Christ came and snatched you from the pit of hell. He came and snatched you, do you know that? From the pit of hell. He literally grabbed you from the pit and said, you are my son, you are my daughter. And you may be saying, what's the whole goal of all this, Judea? Maybe you have that same heart posture. I know about the gospel, I've heard about the blood. And Romans 8, 29 is so clear. It says, for God knew his people in advance and chose them, listen to the language, to be conformed into the image of my son. And tonight I have one question for you.
Have you gotten used to the gospel? Have you got used to the blood of Christ who is seated by the way, at the right hand of the father? The Bible says he's seated at the right hand of the majestic God on high. And he rules on a sea of glass. This is crazy, this is insane stuff. And so come on, would you just close your eyes across the room, I wanna pray with you real quick before we get into the next song. Oh Lord, we thank you, Jesus. Would you make us like children tonight, like Mary, to sit at your feet and feast on the bread who is you. I thank you for the conforming into the image of Jesus that is happening in this room now. I pray for a fresh wave, a fresh outpouring from the floodgates of heaven that would begin to fall in this room. I don't know about you guys, but if I just like officiated a wedding, I'd be at home sleeping right now. So, it just, it shows the love and the character of our pastors. They really, they care for us. They're here for us. I personally would be sleeping. They're here to pour into us. And so, again, just give it up for your pastors. We love you guys. And so, like I said, today my message, I'm going to be speaking on passivity and how as Christians we are really, we're called to be active. And I believe, especially here in the Western Church in America, we are so easily falling into this trap of being passive. And so, again, the title of the message is Passivity Kills. And I just want to pray for us real quick before we hop in. Lord, I just thank you for your presence, God. I thank you that you're already here. You already met us. Lord, I pray that you would continue to stir our hearts. God, I pray that we would be convicted. God, that we would, it's not about comfort. It's not about being entertained. God, I pray tonight this would be a message that would convict us, Lord. That, God, Christianity was never meant to be passive. It was meant to be active. So, God, I thank you for your word that's active. Let it cut to the center of our hearts tonight. In your name we pray. Amen. Amen. So, originally, when I started jumping into this, Pastor Eddie, the thing he told me, he said, Jackson, I want you to be talking about fire insurance Christians. And I was like, fire insurance Christians? And what he means by that is Christians that we're really, we're saved, but it's really just because we don't want to go to hell. You know? Like, we've got our fire insurance, but we don't ever live the gospel. Like, we've been saved, but we're not living like Jesus has called us to something today. And I really want by the end of this message that there would be this desire, this hunger, this new awakening on the inside of every single one of us. That we would be, like, aggressive for the mission. That we would be bought in. That we would leave this place tonight convicted and ready to be not an audience, but an army for the gospel. And so, when I want to talk about, I mean, think about in Matthew 28, 19. Is it? Yes. Matthew 28, 19. Said it right.
And the great commissioner says, go and make disciples of every nation, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus' final words weren't, go and be comfortable. Go and work your job and live an easy life. And, you know, just be a good person. And, you know, like, be kind to people. And, you know, don't do bad things. And sit around and do, go check off the checklist. He said, I need you to go and make disciples. I need you to get out of your comfort zone. See, Christianity was never meant to be passive. It wasn't meant to be something we consume. It was meant to be something we contribute. And something that we go and have action. And I feel like something we lose sight of is how short our lives really are. And what I mean by that is, like, in James 4, the Bible's always talking about how our lives, our time is temporary. It's minding us to make an impact. And in James 4, 14, it says, what is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while, then vanishes. Life is a vapor. And I want you to stop and think about that. In the grand scheme of eternity, right? Our life here on earth is like this. It's tiny. It's here one moment, gone the next. And when I was reading this and when I was praying about this, I really stopped to think. And I was like, if I were to die today, God forbid, I hope that doesn't happen. But if I were to die today, what would I be thinking about? What impact did I make for the kingdom? How did I reach people's life for the gospel? thinking about if someone told me said hey Jackson bad news you got 24 hours
left man you're you're gone after that I wouldn't be thinking man I got to make sure I watch the season finale of this latest next look show man I got to work one more shift at my job I got to make sure that I get one more in because I know my boss really needs the extra help or man I want to go hit the gym one more time maybe Isaac would do that nobody else will be doing that but all these what I'm trying to say is like I feel like we fill up our schedule our time everything that we're like just constantly focused on is stuff that doesn't even matter for eternity so why is it that when we're gonna die what we're gonna be thinking about is what the impact we made for the kingdom and what we made for eternity did we do something that's gonna be live beyond our life did we leave a legacy why is that our thoughts when we think about death but that's not our thoughts when we're living why are we not working towards making a legacy and making an internal impact today because I don't want to get so caught up and just going through the motions and go to work pay the bills go to sleep you know the drill and I'm spending all of my time and attention on these things that don't make an impact for the kingdom we have been given the Great Commission we actually are living on a mission and what I was thinking about when I was thinking about the Great Commission I don't know we have any Mission Impossible fans out here some maybe nobody okay gosh anyways this may not work then but in the movies there's always comes a point in the movie where the main hero Ethan Hunt where he it's presented to him it's like your missions should you choose to accept it and then it's like beat the bad guys save the world because the world's always about to blow up in those movies but and we were presented with that same thing when we were saved Jesus said your mission should you choose to accept it is to go into all the nations and make disciples is to love people it's to serve it's to take up your cross and follow him see when I love what today was talking about because in order for us to not be passive we actually have to be affected by what Jesus did on the cross the blood has to really mean something to us what Jesus's sacrifice has to really mean something to us and so that excitement
that thrill of like Jesus has now died for me now I have washed clean I'm made new and I've been sent on a mission to go and tell people that the same way that Jesus set me free from my sin and all the things that I was walking through and going through and the heartache in my life they can experience that very same thing there's so many people who don't know about the love of Jesus and you and I were saved we said yeah I accept the mission I'm gonna go and I'm gonna make disciples and I'm gonna baptize people and I'm gonna preach the gospel well let's go back to the movie let's say okay the world's on the line Ethan you know you choose he says yeah I'm gonna do it imagine you just like went home and watch Netflix and just like sat on the couch or what did you know went back to clock back into work and didn't do anything about it the world is gonna blow up and the same thing for us I would say our mission is even more important because people's eternities are on the line there's people out there who don't know the love of Jesus it's their eternity but it's also there now you know there's so much life that needs to be spread and so what I want to remind us today that each one of us in this room said yes and I feel like sometimes we sit on the sidelines we become consumers we're not participating but like you're actually on mission like Jesus has called you to go and so in this short time this vapor of our life are we can suit consuming or we contributing with this very few years that were given what impact what mark are we making for the kingdom because Jesus makes it very clear his expectation for us Jesus makes it very clear there's verses all over the Bible that talks about similar principles of what I'm about to talk about here I pulled a couple four verses from Matthew 5 but I'm gonna read Matthew 5 13 and 16 just some pieces from it but you can go there as well and who here has their physical Bible but all because of the Bible blinking the Word of God that's a sword right there okay cool I've got mine as well but I'm gonna read out of the little iPad I have like my laptop my big laptop a pastor Eddie made fun of me and said I'd use my pad so I've got that and said it says you are the salt of the earth and it goes further and it says you are the light of the world a city on
a hill cannot be hidden let There's light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to the Father who is in the heaven and these are just a couple verses of the Expectation that Jesus has given for us while we're living just our short time here on earth And I want you to think about that a city on a hill can't be hidden You don't lie to you know lamp put it under a bowl Salt is called to preserve Everything he's using is like salt and light it has an effect on the world around it and So when he says you're called to be salt You're you're called to have a positive effect on the people around you you're called to bring a little flavor to the table Okay, nobody wants to eat anything without salt Crispin. You're called to be flavor man But it has an influence on the world around you that's what we're called to do light It gets rid of the darkness right and salt brings flavor salt if you have salt, but you don't put it on your food What good is it? And the Bible even talks about a salt loses saltiness. It's just thrown down and trampled, and it's no good Unless you're going in your life is Influencing people it should have an effect on those around you see that's that short time that we're given here on the earth What we're called to be a light we're called to be salt. We're called to influence those around us and One thing I want to talk about is in Hebrews 12, we're gonna kind of go into like where I believe The root problem comes from right if this is so important right if we're big given the Great Commission and there's so many scriptures about being the light and being the salt of the earth and Going and serving people and making impact Why is it so easy for us to just not do it if we're being honest? To just live our lives and just go through the motions. Why well I believe the problem comes when we take our eyes off of Jesus See because being able to go and do all those things come from an abundance of his presence It comes from walking and by the power of his Holy Spirit, so in Hebrews 12 1 through 2 It says since we're surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses
Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance The race marked out for us Fixing our eyes on Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of faith And there's I mean you could go and I think Isaac's teaching on this next week on Hebrews 12 for the guys You could go and preach a whole message just on these two verses There are so much in there But there's a few things like I specifically want to highlight is like notice the language. It says run the race Christianity is a movement. It's an action. It even talks about it in the and I believe in James where it says Faith without works is dead That there's when there's this genuine Movement in your heart When there's this genuine faith, it should push us to run it should push us to act and I believe when we lose sight of Jesus we lose sight of the mission and When you're we think about it It's a race when you're running a race like you have a goal you have something in mind or something You're running for running to running towards something. You're trying to reach our lives are the same way. I Believe we miss the mission. We lose passion for the mission We get stuck in cycles when we take our eyes off of Jesus Because when your eyes are on Jesus, I mean look at the scriptures in the story of his life He served people He loved people. He made time for people that one's big for us because we're oh, I'm busy, man I had to jump from this thing to that thing and I've got so much going on I just don't have time for all that stuff. Jesus made time for people He loved people He gave his life for people And he's called us to do the same. It says he's the perfecter of our faith. He is our example He lived a the most mission oriented life that anyone who's ever lives Everything he did was filtered through the will of the Father Everything he did was on mission the decisions He made how he spoke to people the way that he loved people it. He had the mission in mind
He had a goal and he is that example for us So when we stop fixing our eyes on Jesus we lose sight of the mission and we lose sight of the mission we become passive Satan loves passion passive Christians Because we're just fire insurance Christians. We we don't ever threaten him in his kingdom because we're not taking ground for God's kingdom. So Satan would love for us all to sit here and be passive and to hear a fantastic, amazing word, just like the best word ever, and just be a consumer and not a doer. See, we can go to church on Thursday, we can go to church on Sunday, if you're really holy, maybe you go on Tuesdays as well, life groups. But unless you're actually living the gospel, we're missing out, we're missing out. One, making an impact, but two, I would pose to you, you're missing out on the joy and fulfillment of a truly life aligned with the will of God. There's something beautiful when you're walking with the Lord and walking in what he's called you to do. And Pastor John, I don't know the story super well, but something he shares, it's about kind of like lakes, and the first time I heard it, I just think it's so applicable to what we're talking about. It's like, if you're, imagine a lake here, and it just has an inlet, but no outlet. So fresh water comes in, but there's no flow out. That water just goes in and goes in, and it becomes stagnant, and it's dead,
there's no life in there, it's not safe water. But when that lake has an inlet and an outlet, the water's clean, there's life in it, and it flows, and as Christians, we're the same way. I feel like we've just consumed, consumed, consumed, consumed, and then our life still is lacking joy and purpose because we don't ever go. You know, we're so filled with the word, but we never speak the word. You know, it's like we've become just overloaded with so much going in and nothing coming out. And I believe we can start to see some symptoms, some things that begin to happen when we're living passive Christianity. So I actually wanna talk about that. So I've got like four symptoms of passive slash consumer Christianity. And the first one is the sin cycle. We get comfortable with sin. And I mean, God's plan for us obviously is not to live in that sin cycle, but I feel like when we lose sight of the mission, when we lose sight of, hey, our life is like this, and God has a plan for us and a purpose for us, and he has things that he needs us to go do, and instead we're passive, we can get stuck in these cycles of sin. Where it's, oh, you know, I know I shouldn't be doing that, but God, you know, has grace, he'll forgive me. Oh, you know, I messed up again and it happens, it happens.
But when are we gonna say enough is enough? When are we gonna say like, I'm gonna live with purpose? And this is something Pastor Eddie, he would always say is like, he's like the number one best way to fight sin is to serve. And I feel like when I was writing this message, it started like, oh, I get, like, it makes sense. I get what he's saying. Like, when you're focused on what God is calling you to do and you're serving other people and you're texting, like, imagine you're texting someone about the gospel, you're encouraging someone, or you just called one of your friends because you know he's going through a hard time and you encouraged him and you spoke life to him and you spoke verses over him and stuff like that. Now you're gonna be way less likely to just go and sin right afterwards. Like, let's be honest, let's be honest. And so I wanna say is like, when we're passive, when we have idle hands, when we're not doing, where we're supposed to be, it's very easy for the enemy to get us because we're moving out of where God has called us to be. So one of the big things is the sin cycle. And obviously in Romans 2, 4, it says, this kindness is meant to lead you to repentance. And so we get caught up in, you know, just going through, going through, going through, but we lose sight of his great love, his great mercy.
It should so touch my heart. It should so move me that I should turn the other way. That God's kindness, his love for you is what's actually the motivating factor. Not shame, not guilt, but love is the motivating factor for you to turn back to the Lord. So I think that's definitely one symptom of being, living that passive Christianity is just constant sin cycle that you can't get out of. Number two is busyness without purpose. We're busy, but not necessarily on mission. We fill our schedules with things that don't really matter for eternity. And Jesus calls to live our lives aligned with the kingdom. And actually funny enough, this was today when I was doing like a little prayer walk, cause I'm a very, I don't know if you can tell, but I'm a very like antsy person. Like I move back and forth, especially when I'm thinking or praying. I can't just like, thank you Lord for today. This is a beautiful day. Like, I'm like, God, you're so good. Like, this is an amazing day. Thank you, Jesus. Like, this is how I am. I'm very moving. So I was doing a prayer walk about the message today. And at the very end, there was an Amazon. One driver and he dropped a package at the door.
He was literally, this dude was like chopping. He was running. He like dropped the package. He ran to this door, dropped the package. So you would think he's really busy, right? He's working, he's doing his job. I'm pretty sure they like time them and stuff. And he stopped, he saw me and he came up to me and he said, hey, what's your name? Jackson, he said, can I pray for you? It's like, sure, like I'm actually gonna be preaching tonight and everything like that. He's like, awesome, let me pray for your message. He prayed for me and he said, you know, he's like, I always think about, he just ran and said, I always think about the verses. Those who are led by the spirit of God will be called sons of God. And then he just hopped back in his truck and ran and went back to what he was doing. But to me, that was such a great example of literally exactly what I'm preaching on. Of like, in the work, in the busyness, in the things that we have going on, are we living with purpose? He could have easily just run to the next house, but he felt it, he felt it on his heart to come and pray for me and he did. When was the last time we did something like that? Like, let's be honest.
When we're working or when we're out of the store or when we're doing something, when's the last time we stopped to pray for someone or to speak life to someone or encourage someone? Those who are led by the spirit of God, who walk with the spirit of God, will be called sons and daughters of God. And so I just wanna encourage us that like, the opposite of being passive is walking by the spirit. And so when we're in the busyness, let it not be busy without purpose. Let us make sure that we're still fulfilling the mandate and the call that God has on our life. Let's make sure that we walk by the spirit. And when God tells us to go pray for a random guy, when we're running from door to door, dropping packages, that we do it. Or insert that with school, job, family, whatever it may be. There's people who are waiting for your yes. Think about this, I was in busyness, like when we just go through our day. What if you stopping and praying for that person, so impact is pinned back to their life that they get saved. Then they end up, let's say they become an evangelist and they lead thousands of people to the Lord. All because you're like, hey, actually, I'm just gonna take five minutes out of my day to pray for someone, to love on someone, to be the light of the gospel to someone.
And now generations are impacted. Now imagine you did that every day. Imagine everywhere you went, you lived on mission. Everywhere you went, you had the, I'm called to go and make disciples. When I hang out with my family, when I hang out with my friends, I'm called to make disciples. I'm called to show the love of Jesus. That same love that Jesus showed me, that same grace that he showed me, I'm called to show that to those around me. And so that's number two is I feel like we get caught in busyness without purpose. Number three is laziness. Passivity often looks like spiritual laziness. First Corinthians four, or sorry, 924. Do you not know that in a race, all the runners run, but only one receives the prize. Run in such a way to get the prize. When I hear verses like that, I get fired up. I'm very competitive. I'm like, shoot, I'm winning this thing. I'm running to win. I'm getting the prize. But what Paul is saying here is like, hey, we're all running the race. Why not run to win? You know, why not make an impact? Why not live like eternity is literally on the line?
What else do you have to lose? Like, why not make an impact? And it was funny when I was thinking about this verse, I immediately thought of when the young adults went to run the 10K, who all ran the 10K with us? Few of us. Who like me survived the 10K? It was more of like a battle for your life, but you're here. You made it to the other side. Okay. When I was running that race, look, I'm not a runner. Josiah, it was too easy for him. So I'm pretty sure he ran it like a handstand. I mean, it was just too easy for him. I'm not. I was dying when I was running. Every step I wanted to stop, my legs felt like they were gonna explode. My lungs felt like they were gonna explode. Eddie was preaching while he was running. I don't know what was going on. But what kept me going? I had a goal. I had a mission. I said, I will run this in under an hour and I'm gonna make it happen. And I'm not gonna be the last amongst the young adults. I just won't be. Our lives are the same way.
That having my eyes fixed on a goal, having a purpose, I was able to push through pain. I was able to push through trial. When I wanted to give up, when it hurt, there was like a super incline at the end that I think they did because they hated us. I did not want, I was like, just walk. Don't do it, just walk. Just don't do it. I pushed through because I had a goal. Purpose I had a mission there was something that was important that saw me through the pain Our lives are the same way when we're running when we keep our eyes on Jesus when we have a mission when we have a goal we're able to take our eyes off of our own lives our own Selfishness our own pain and we're able to run the mission run the race So I wouldn't suggest signing up for a 10k unless you don't like like feeling normal But that's to each their own Faith requires discipline and endurance which takes me to For which is selfishness instead of sacrifice Passive Christians ask what can the church do for me when we're truly living the gospel? It's how can I serve? Mark 10 45 for even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve Jesus did not live a comfortable life I don't know if you've read through one of the Gospels, but I would not say he was a passive man I did not I would not say he put his needs before anybody else's Yet, it's so easy for us to become so selfish our nature We're just we were kind of selfish people. I am you are it's just kind of how we are We're focused on our problems our job our situations. Should I do this or do I that what outfit? Do I wear today? You know the really important stuff when In reality, we're called to live a life of sacrifice if Jesus came into this world
the Son of God From whom the whole world is created Like this is Jesus. This is God the king of the kingdom that we live in He came to the earth not to be served but to serve He died for our sins for what we deserved That level of sacrifice and selflessness is what we're called to as well Jesus is that example and so I want to challenge all of us today Do any of those areas resonate with you that I just went through, you know sin cycle busyness without purpose Laziness selfishness. It's so easy when we're passive for the enemy to distract us And I feel like the Lord has wanted to wake people up tonight Look around in this room, there's maybe what like 70 80 people in here right now What if every single person in this room tonight? Lived every single day on mission for the gospel For a year. What kind of what would this room look like a year from now? and I don't say that to condemn us. I say it's a challenge and convict us Are we truly putting our priorities and our time into the things that really matter Like honestly, like well the thing that you're so worried about right now that you put all your time into Will it even matter five years from now ten years from now? 20 years from now What I can tell you what will matter is what you do for eternity What will matter is the souls that go from lost to found What will matter is the way that you loved your brother? What will matter is like? I was tired I didn't want to But I went and I helped my friend out of a situation that they were in or I gave to this certain cause and I Went and I did this thing and I was inconvenienced. I was selfless and it made an impact for eternity That's the kind of stuff that's gonna last
and so I want genuinely to for you to think and for all of us to really be contemplative about this of like Do our day-to-day lives and our day-to-day actions? really reflect That we have accepted the Great Commission Do they really reflect that Jesus is the perfecter of our faith? Do they really reflect that we're called to go and serve? Not what our intentions are not what we want to be or where we want to be does our life and our actions really reflect that This is a convicting message for me. Don't worry. It's not you're not it. You're not alone When I the Lord gave me this anytime the Lord gives me a message I'm like, oh Because I it Paul even talks about in that one where he talks about running to win He even says he trains his body to do what it should because he worries that after preaching that he himself would be disqualified And so anytime the Lord like gives me a message. I'm like, man, I better live that out now. I Better not be passive if I'm gonna be preaching about it So this is for me to trust me But I want to kind of just end with a mentality and that's this like I love this It's like the soldier mentality 2nd Timothy 2 3-7 I'll read this. Endure suffering along with me as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don't get tied up in the affairs of civilian life for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them and athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules and hard-working farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. 3-8 And I want to leave us with this mindset that we're soldiers on a mission. Soldiers, they don't get caught up in civilian affairs. Soldiers don't get caught up in what are things and apply this to our life. Christians don't get caught up in gossip. Christians aren't focused in the sins and things that are going on. Christians aren't getting tangled up by distractions. Christians live on mission because we're soldiers and we've been called, we've been enlisted and our goal and our life, our objective is to please Jesus and is to live for the Lord. And so as the worship team is getting set up to lead us out into this next song, I want you to really, really think about, like I said before, I just feel it on my heart again. Does our life reflect that? Can we say, yeah, I'm a soldier for Christ. Look at my life. Look,
look what I do here. This is, I'm living on mission because I just want this, this conviction in our heart. Imagine what our city would look like if all the Christians in the area live like that. How many people would be helped? And a little, little plug, a little push, you know, now that I'm helping with our missions department, mission trips. This is another way that you can go and make disciples. It's what we're called to do. And so the young adults are going to be going to the Dominican Republic this summer. I want you to really pray about, God, is this one of the ways you can use me? Is this one of the ways that I can not be selfish? Is this one of the ways I can break that sin cycle? Is this one of the ways that I can go and make disciples of all nations? And so if you've never been on a mission trip, I would encourage you to do it because I always say your first mission trip actually does more for you than it does for the people you're ministering to because it's going to awaken something in you. And it actually, it helps you realize that you're living on mission. It really does. So I would highly encourage you with that. And so I want everyone to stand with me. Close your eyes. Lord, I thank you for your presence. I thank you for your goodness. Could I also get my prayer team to just come out front? Lord, I pray that our hearts would be convicted, that our hearts would be challenged tonight, that even just one person would answer the call tonight and say, here I am, Lord, send me. Lord, I just pray, God, that your spirit would speak right now. To every heart, every person who's in this room. And so there's a couple of things that I want to present. And if you need prayer for anything, you can always come to the front for that. But there's some particular things. One is just an overall passivity that you feel like you're just kind of going through the motions of life. You feel like it's just basically go to work, pay the bills, go to sleep. And there's no purpose. It's just kind of going through the motions. That's group number one. Group number two is those who I feel are actually called to the mission field, that you feel there's something on your heart from the Lord that you're supposed to literally go to the nations. And I want, if you're in, whenever I say amen and the worship starts, I want, if you're in either of those groups, I want you to come down to the front. So I'm going to pray. And then when I say amen, if you're in either of those groups where you feel you're passive, you're stuck in it, you're in a rut and you want someone to pray over you to give that fire, direction, wisdom, discernment of what you need to go, what you need to do,
where you need to go. Or if you're feeling a tug on your heart for the nations and you want to be commissioned, you want to be prayed over and you want wisdom in that area. And when I say amen, I want you to come down the front as they go into this last song. So Lord, I thank you that you spoke to us. God, I thank you that your word is alive and active. Lord, I pray that it would convict every single heart in this room tonight. God, God, I pray that as you're looking out and you're looking For a people who will say yes, God, I pray you would find them in this room tonight. If you're looking for a people, God, they'll say, I'm here, Lord, send me. God, that's our heart tonight. So I pray that every single person in this room would feel that on their heart, that burdening that says, yes, Lord, I will go. So Lord, I pray in this last song, God, that you would minister to your people and you'd be enthroned on the praises of your people.
