Jesus is The Word || Victory Church [Who is Jesus? #1]

John 1 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made. Without him nothing was made that has been made. Who is Jesus? Who is Jesus? I grew up in a church. My mom used to take us to church all the time, and I would be there sometimes day till the end of the day, day till night, vigils, everything. But I just never had a personal relationship with Jesus. My personal relationship with Jesus started when someone asked me some questions that I couldn't answer about just scripture in general. I remember going home that night and thinking, what do I actually believe? Lord, who actually are you? Because I hear about you all the time. I'm always at church. People are always screaming and shouting about you, but I don't know you. That was the time when I was like, okay, I'm going to actually take a step to find out who this Jesus that we're talking about is because I don't know him. That's when I started to open up my Bible and actually read the Word for myself. It was just through the slow process of reading the Word that I started to see the wisdom of God in Proverbs. I started to open up the Gospels and see just how Jesus spoke, specifically on the Sermon on the Mount, and just to see how his character was so different than anything I'd ever seen. It changed my understanding of what authority looked like. There's just a divine way in the way Jesus speaks. I don't think anyone speaks like Jesus. If you look at any of his words, you will see that he is who he says he is. I'd seen some of the power of God move, but the character of God is something that I never had a grasp of. So to read the Word for myself and to see how Jesus interacted with people, the way he interacted with his disciples, and just the authority that he spoke with, it showed me who he was. And I think that's what the Word talks about when it says that he revealed himself in Christ. That's what Pastor Johnson spoke about this weekend, is that Christ is the revelation of God in flesh. And so for me, really reading the Word was my eyes opening to that reality. I was saying to a friend recently, and I think it's relevant, it's like reading the Word and prayer are like two pedals on a bike. It's like you need those to propel your relationship with God. And for me, I've just seen that as evident. And God reveals his character through the Word, through the Bible. The majority of the questions that we have are answered in the Word. A lot of the times we're just not going there, if we're being honest with ourselves. And I saw that in my walk. And when I started to actually prioritize listening to the Word and reading the Word, I saw a change in myself. And I noticed the change when I step away from doing that in a consistent manner. So

the Word is so important. It's literally God's literal letter to us. What else could we ask for if we haven't looked for it in the Word, you know? Like for people who are looking for who Jesus is, I just recommend that you get into the Word and see what he had to say for himself. People have an idea of Jesus that they've gotten from somewhere else that isn't the Word. And that's not what God's used to reveal who he is. He's used his Son in the Word to show us who he is. So my recommendation and my encouragement for everyone is to get into the Word yourself, because nothing can replace that. Even if you have someone telling you what they read in the Word, it's not the same thing as God revealing himself to you as you open up the Word yourself. Who is Jesus? Who is Jesus? Oh my goodness. Jesus is God. Jesus is Lord. Jesus is my Savior. He's my therapist. Jesus is my closest friend. Jesus is the first person I go to when anything happens. He's the way. He's the way for me. He's the way. There's no other way but Jesus. He's the truth. In everything I've been searching for truth, Jesus is the truth. And he's the one that's restored life to me, because without him, I can do nothing. Without him, I was lost. When I realized his grace and his love for me and how he died for me when I was still against him, I realized that he is the epitome of love. He is the perfect one, and he's the one I was looking for. Yeah, and that's true.
