Hidden Traps | Psalms 91 | Pastor Adam French

Welcome to A Word from the Word. If you know me, you know I love birds. And do you know that birds are significant in the Bible? In Psalms 91 verse 3, David mentions them specifically. And he says this, God himself will rescue you from the bird trap. Now look, I put out different feeders, different food to attract different birds. I've got 10 species that I follow pretty quickly. Like I like birds, right? But birds are significant, especially in the Old Testament. Jesus references back to them actually in Matthew chapter 6. Now here's where I want to bring up this verse. It says that birds are trapped. Now here's the thing about a bird. They're very sneaky and it doesn't take much to scare them. So in order to trap a bird, you have to lay out a trap and you have to disguise it. You cover it up with foliage and then you put some food out there for it to get. What David is saying right now is when you stay close to God, he's going to protect you from the hidden trap. See, the enemy is going to place traps for you to fall in that look safe. It's going to make it look like something safe, like just a normal ground where you can land and you can hang out, you can bring your family. But it's a trap to get you stuck in sin. And see, if you're not close to God, if you're not hearing his word, if you're not sheep that can hear God's word and move left and move right, and God says, don't go here, don't do that and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. If you're not hearing the word of God, if you're not consuming the word of God, then you're going to fall into a hidden trap. So my challenge to you today is to listen, get into the word, as my pastor says, until the word gets into you so that you'll hear the voice of God so that you'll have wisdom to make decisions and so that you won't fall into the hidden trap of the enemy. So stay safe, stay free. And look, stop and listen to the birds. They're actually pretty cool.
