Healing Doesn't Always Happen Overnight | Mark 3
Sometimes you don't realize how much you've healed until you look back at where you started.
In today's episode of The Crossroads Daily, we're reading Mark 3 and having some honest conversations about healing. Caleb and Kearstin share deeply personal stories about how Jesus has brought healing to their relationships and families, while the crew talks about emotional wounds, unanswered prayers, and the slow miracles we sometimes overlook. It's a reminder that even when healing hasn't happened yet, Jesus hasn't turned his back on us.
they're what I call slow miracles. All for the instant miracle. All for the instant healing. And yet what I found is so many of the deepest parts of us that need healed. Jesus heals gently, intentionally, slowly over time. And it's only when you look back that you can be like, "Man, yeah, he's done a work. "There's no doubt. "He's done a work." This is the Crossroads Daily. No experts, no perfect people. Just honest conversations about what happens when the Bible shows up in real life. Hey, I'm Chuck. - I'm Mish. - I'm Caleb. - And I'm Kirsten. - All right, Mark chapter three. And there's, again, every week, there's so much to talk about every day. There's so much to talk about here, but I'm interested in the healing narratives here. You know, we've actually not talked a bunch about all the healings that have already happened, and we're only, you know, three chapters in. And people are walking, they didn't walk before. And there are people who had evil spirits that don't have them anymore. Jesus was a healer.
And I wonder how that has shown up in your relationship with Jesus. What is a way that Jesus has healed you? - All right, I got a wild story. All right, bring it. - I don't know if it's wild, but it's not one you expect to hear. One of the ways Jesus has healed me is that I can enjoy having sex with my wife. I was sexually abused when I was a kid. And when we got married, I did not enjoy having sex because it took me back to that place, right? To a place a couple of times as a teenager when I was taking advantage of and just horrible things that aren't supposed to happen to a kid or a teen or whatever. And we worked through that, and my wife was very patient with me. And it didn't happen overnight. It was step by step by step. We're on this journey together. And it's just wild because I was, I'm a writer and I was writing an article about this. And it just realized like, I have things to tell people about sex. I should not. Like I should, I used to not enjoy it. It's a beautiful thing. It's a God given thing in the right context of marriage. And God healed me of that solely because he's good. He didn't have to, right?
I could still be married. We could have a healthy marriage without it. But God is good and has allowed us to progress. We're like, I'm in my 40s. I don't want to talk, I'm babe, I'm sorry. We're in our 40s and we have more sex and better sex. Now in our 20s, that doesn't make sense except Jesus. - Except for Jesus. - That's right. - Yes, God, man. And I love your, you're just sharing a powerful. Like there are lots of people are gonna be encouraged to hear that story, man. Thank you. - Thank you. Oh my gosh. - How about you guys? How does Jesus healed you? - Yeah, I also thought about my marriage and how I had many horrible experiences with men growing up. Like had a moment where I had to stand up between my mom being physically abused, like pinned up against the wall as a teenager in high school and like having like my siblings were sleeping at the school night. I go up and I'm like, why are they yelling? And this is happening and I'm like, get off of her. And so I like made a vow at those moments that I'm never gonna get married. I'm just gonna be a bad day, business woman,
take over the world. I don't need no man. And yet like I fell in love with following Jesus and similarly Caleb, like he didn't have to renew - That's right. - To hire to like have a family and have that. But guys, I'm pregnant with my third baby. - Come on now, congratulations. - Congratulations. - Congratulations. - And I think that's like, thank you. - Yes. - And it just, I don't know this, this baby I just have really been reflecting on. Oh my gosh, our family looks, I never would have wanted this 10 years ago. And my sister still says like, I can't believe you got married and had kids. 'Cause you just didn't trust the world. You're bringing them into. And in this one being, I have two boys and this is the only girl. It feels special to be like, you will be safe. Like there is a God who creates godly men. Like your dad. I don't know, that's not a narrative that you hear. I think in our circles you might hear it a lot if you're watching this podcast, but it gets a little bit out of that. - Yeah.
- And you immediately realize like so many people are living in broken relationships and don't trust the life. So. - Oh, I love that. That's so good. That's so good. And the way I love about. all for the instant healing. And yet what I found is so many of the deepest parts of us that need healed. Jesus heals gently, intentionally, slowly over time. And it's only when you look back that you can be like, man, yeah, he's done a work. There's no doubt he's done a work. So let me ask this and Misha, maybe you can go here. Like, I know there's still places in my life where I want healing. It hasn't happened yet. And I'm wondering, you know, we all can try me on this question, but where's the place where you're longing for Jesus to heal you? Yeah. I would say my answer to the last question was going to be around emotional healing. And this would be my answer to this question as well. And that there's a few parts of my how I feel and how I relate to other people and how I talk to other people that I feel need to be healed. One is my need for likability, my need for like a reputation and what people think of me. Right now, I'm in a place with work where I have to make decisions that some people are going to like and a lot of other people are not going to like. And whether I make the decision based on what I think is right, whether there's going to be people who are upset. And it goes so against the core of like, Oh, just like at this point, people just like me and are okay with it. And so there's that part, but also even just with my own wife of being very transparent and clearly communicative to her. Not not so that she likes me because that is what is part of a relationship in a marriage is to, you know, for us to be one and for her to know like where I'm at exactly where I'm at, but not me put on this like face or display or something like that. That's something I'm continually asking and praying for God to heal me. And I love it. It's been a really difficult journey. And there's other aspects of like my emotional healing that have you know been going to therapy for and gotten therapy for and as well. But that's like the primary one where like it's like very up in my face. I like these like the slow healing. I think that's mostly what Jesus tries to speak
about is that slow healing heals people physically. That happens all the time. But majority of the time they're it comes with a forgiveness ascend. It comes with an acceptance back into community and society. Like that is his point. I've longed for physical healing before and I still long for it. Like my back really hurts right now. I've had hip problems and few problems. We talked about that in the past. I have never experienced that. And most of the time when you hear the early, so if you are in Christian struggles, when you hear the word healing, you I assume physical healing, happening immediately. Those are beautiful stories. They're amazing. They should be celebrated. I've never experienced one. Yeah. Yeah. And yet I am so thankful for this slow healing of emotional well-being. Yeah. Jesus has me on. Yeah, that's so good. Off camera Caleb, you said something that I think is really important. You know, the story here that we have is Jesus healing in me with a wither hand. And there was a particular piece of that that really hit you. Yeah. Why don't you share the things? It's verse five. Jesus looks around at the people gathered. Well, he asked them a question. Is it right to do good or do evil? Yeah. No one answers. That's right. That's right. Like that's like that's like seems obvious, but okay. No one's saying anything. And then verse verse five, it says Jesus looking around at them, looked at them with anger and sorrow at the hardness of their heart, but they couldn't answer that question. Yeah. And it kind of stuck out to me, like if you're waiting on healing, if there's there's places I want healing, I want more healing, right? Jesus isn't okay with it. He's not okay with the brokenness in your life. He's not, he's angry about it, right? Not angry at you. Yes. Right? Even if you caused it, maybe not angry at you, but angry for the weight you have to carry, the frustration you have to live with, the broken cycle that keeps going, right? Like he's not disconnected from you saying that's okay, that's their problem to figure out. No, man, he's with us. That is what this whole book is about. It's God with us, right? God comes with us in the form of Jesus and he's frustrated at the broken parts of our lives. And if we're waiting, sometimes we got to wait because we don't know the whole plan. That's right. Right. But we can know that God's not okay with the broken parts of our lives. Yeah. Yeah. That was, I just thank you for sharing that. I think that my guess is there are people who are watching who, like me, have places in their lives where it's like, man, I have not seen it yet. You know, I can, I can relate to you on some deep emotional healing things that have not happened in my life yet, you know, that I long for and have prayed for and have fasted for and all the things and just hasn't happened yet. And I just really needed to hear that.
in the places where I haven't yet experienced the healing. He's angry, he's angry for the brokenness of this world and how it impacts me and he's with me. So it was deeply, deeply encouraging. Man, this was a good one today, this was a good one today. I hope that if you're listening, you first of all can be very grateful for the places where you have seen the healing of Jesus in your life. And I pray that you don't give up hope, that you would continue to have hope for the places that you long to see healing because Jesus is a healer. And sometimes they're slow miracles, sometimes we may not see it all in our lifetime, but know that he is with you no matter what. (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music)
