Have You Treated Your Heart Like Holy Ground? | Mornings with Mico
In this teaching, De’Mico walks through Moses’ encounter with God in Exodus 3 and challenges us to rethink how we approach God’s presence. When Moses encounters the burning bush, God tells him to remove his sandals because he’s standing on holy ground—a moment that reveals both God’s holiness and the posture required to meet Him. De’Mico unpacks how holiness isn’t casual or common, and how we often drift into treating sacred moments like they’re ordinary.
Through Moses’ humility and reverence, we’re reminded that encountering God should shift something in us. This teaching invites us to slow down, recognize where God is present, and approach Him with awe, surrender, and a heart that understands: when God shows up, everything changes.
Good people. What's going on, man? My name is Miko, and welcome to my one-on-one time with God. Real quick, I wanted to definitely just thank y'all for tuning in. I know Pando has so many different amazing things that it offers for you to view, and I'm just really encouraged by, you know, just you guys tuning in to sit with me while I just share with you, you know, what God's placed on my heart. I hope this blesses you, one. And then, two, I hope it encourages you to do the same. I hope it encourages you to find somebody, whether it's in your dorm or just, you know, wherever, you know, and just share something, you know, that God's placed on your heart with them, and that it could bless them, right? So, yeah, that's my hope. Today, jumping back in Exodus, I know I've been camped out in Exodus for a minute, but, you know, we back at it, man. I'm going to catch you up to speed to the passage that I'm going to speak from. We're at a point in Exodus where Moses is, he has left Egypt. He had killed the Egyptian for beating the Hebrew slave, and he was found out, so he dipped out and left Egypt, and now he's just kind of made a life for himself. He's tending to the flock, and this is the moment where God sees him, and he's, you know, as Israel has been crying out to God for, you know, to be rescued from Egypt, and then God then reaches out to Moses, and this is the moment when God is first seeking out Moses and beginning a conversation with him about sending him back into Egypt to rescue the Israelites. It says, there the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames, a fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire, it did not burn up, so Moses thought, I will go over and see this strange sight, why the bush does not burn up. When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, Moses, and Moses said, here I am. Do not come any closer, God said. Take off your sandals. The place where you are standing is holy ground. This is in Exodus 3, and this, the phrase, the verse where it says, do not come any closer, God said, take off your sandals for the place where you are standing is holy ground. It really just, as I sat with that, I'm like, it is, Moses, in the book of Numbers, Moses is called the most humble man in all of the earth, and even in his humility, it's like, this holy ground in which you're standing on, it's like, you can't just walk into this freely. That's how God is so protective of what's holy. It's set apart. It's not, you don't just get to dilly dally into holy ground, and it's just this posture of reverence, right? Moses goes on, once he hears God's voice and God is talking to him,
he hides his face. It's this humility and his reverence that we're called to posture ourself in towards God, but I think it draws our attention to just how sacred whatever God calls holy is, and in this holy ground, this is how God expected Moses to respond, and it reminded me, as I was reading the verse, it reminded me of this song, and it really kind of like painted a clearer picture of this song. It's a worship song by Passion, and it's called Holy Ground, and I'll read you some of the verse. It says, here as we wait, seek your face, come and make your throne upon our praise. Here in this place, have your way. The moment that we see you, we are changed. Show us your glory. Show us your glory. In wonder and surrender, we fall down. Show us your glory. Show us your glory. Let every burning heart be holy ground, and the idea of our hearts, God seeing this holy ground, when I contrast that to this image of Moses having to remove his sandals before walking on that holy ground, it just drawed me, my attention to just the idea of like, just the idea of like, what am I allowing to just freely enter into my heart? God is calling my heart His holy ground. Like, He's so, He's more possessive of my heart than, than, than, than, I don't know, than anybody else would be, right? As you give your heart to people or you give your heart to things. Like, I think that's why the Bible even says, like, guard your heart above all things, right? It's, it's, it's, this is, this is, this is God's temple. This is God's abode. And so, how, how, how quick we are to force God to have to share the space in our heart with these other things of the world that we care about or relationships that may draw us away from Him or desires we may have or ambitions we may have or whatever it is, even if it's good things, right? Like, in and of itself, but still,
it should not have a place in your heart that God has to contest with. The love in, in, in Matthew says where your treasure is, your heart will be also. What this speaks to us is that these things here that we treasure, these things here that we value, we can place so much value on these things and our heart follows that. And then this is why God is a jealous God, because He's like, no, that's, that's mine. Your heart, like, that belongs to me. I want to be the one and only in your heart, man. And I don't know, for me, it just, it just, it's one of those things where it's like, I love just sitting in that thought, in that idea, right? Like, cause it's one of those things where like the wisdom just is like, it becomes manifold. It's not something that I just, you know, like there's layers to it. And for me, it just grows me in my reverence for God. It grows me in my humility. It grows me in my surrender. It grows me in just like this, this appreciation and repentance, right? Like, like God, like I know, I don't even know all of the things hidden in the crevices of my heart that displease you. But I mean, I know few that, you know, come to mind just that are on the surface that I know that I struggle with, right?
Like I'm still, you know, at times you could wrestle with finding validation and what you accomplish and things like that. And now you're pursuing goals, from a tainted place, right? And that's just one of just some of the many things that are still like hidden in my heart, right? The unforgiveness or just things that I value probably more than I should for just the wrong reasons. And these are the things that like, like these are the things that God is contesting with for space in your heart. Um, I don't know what it is for you, right? We all have something, we all have our thing, right? I have a number of things in my heart. Pride is one of them that I wrestle with regularly. Selfish ambition is one that I wrestle with regularly. But whatever it is for you, right? Like one, don't be ashamed of it. Don't let, don't try to disregard it. Don't try to, to, you know, like pretend like it's not there. Don't, don't, don't, um, don't even downplay it. I want to challenge you to take inventory of what's in your heart. Like in your one-on-one time with God, like the scripture says in Psalms, search me, oh Lord, search my heart. Know my, know my anxious thoughts and anything that's in my heart, right? That's, that's, that's pleasing to you.
Reveal it to me, remove it and lead me in a, you know, path that's everlasting. You know, I kind of paraphrased it, but it's in Psalm, I believe 139. But, but, but from that place, like allow God in your one-on-one time to reveal these things in your heart that, that he's contesting with. And, um, and allow that to, to, to, to, um, like don't, don't, don't, don't, don't feel ashamed by it. Allow that conviction to lead you to a place of repentance, man. Write the list down. If you want to, you can even shoot me, you know, you can shoot me an email at prison at crossroads.net and you can title it, you know, um, um, just, you know, morning with Miko or whatever, you know, um, or what's hidden in my heart, you know what I'm saying? Um, holy ground, that's what we'll do. Holy ground. Um, put that in the subject line. And if you want to, if you feel led to share, you know, what are the things that you recognize that, that, that, that may be walking on this holy ground, you know, of your heart with, with the sandals on? What are the things that are, that are, that are, that are in your heart, that are, that are, that are, that are in your heart that are in your heart?
right, that God's contesting with or that God is like, you know, he's displeased with. And if you feel, if you feel so led, share it, you know, confess it and, and, and that's the beginning of, of, of, of repentance. I hope this blesses you. I hope, I hope that one, you walk away from this just understanding how God views your heart and, or at least a clear vision or a clear, you know, version of how God views your heart. And that is something to protect. It's something to guard because in his eyes, that's holy ground. That's his space. That's where, that's his abode. That's where he, he belongs. And we don't want them to have to contest with these other things for space in our heart. And it's not something that you may get overnight. It's more of a, of a, of a posture is more of a, of a direction that you're walking in, right? That's where repentance is. It's, it's this direction that we're walking in as we're made aware of, you know how God feels and how he, you know, how he, how he looks at some of the things that, you know, we may not see the same way he sees, right. As we learn his perspective on these matters. Yeah. I hope that blesses you, man. It's something that's really, that is, it's still cooking with me. You know, it's something that I'm still praying daily, like God, help my heart, heal my heart, show me these things or forgive me for causing you to have to contest with what's rightfully yours in my heart. Hope this bless y'all, man. Y'all have a good one.
