God Is Speaking in the Ordinary | Mornings with Mico

Yo, people, how we doing, man? Top of the morning to you. I want to kick us off this morning with a question. What if I told you that God meets us through ordinary voices in ordinary moments? I got a letter from a guy this week. He was, I don't know how long he's been down, but he locked up down in Florida and he was saying he's on his fifth number. And he just wrote to talk to me about just the way that the morning with me, because the devotions are impacting him. He said it gave him goosebumps. Another guy had wrote in too, I think last week or the week before, and he said the mornings are shaping the kind of man he wants to become. Another guy wrote in and was saying how the episode was knowledgeable and it hit right at home. Praise God who does all things well. And it just really got me to thinking, like, I don't know what episode these guys are talking about. I don't know. That's kind of beside the point for me. It's just like these people who are having these encounters with God. One, I mean, it's definitely, you know, an honor to, you know, be used by God in any way. But then to kind of hear, you know, the stories and hear these men who are like leaning in, like, right where they are and praising God. You know, I've had many times where I could listen to, you know, a message or be in a conversation with somebody. And sometimes that person doesn't even, they don't even know, like, what it is that they're actually saying. But it's something that God has done with me over the years is whatever he's sharing with me in private, he then also begins to repeat in public. And, like, sometimes the person is none the wiser. There's something that they're saying, it resonates in a certain way because it aligns with something that God is already communicating to me. So that's, I've had that experience enough. So that's the lens that I'm, that I kind of see all of this through. And I love how the glory, you know, it goes back to God. But it's the fact that you are actually noticing it. You know, like, God can get through to you in an ordinary voice. And, you know, me doing a morning devotion, a song. God has spoken to me before through a billboard, right? Like, just, but it's like, you're receptive to his voice. And you give him the glory for it, which just really, I don't know, it just, it just hit home.

I'm reminded on 1 Thessalonians in chapter five, he says, Rejoice always pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. I think we keep waiting for, like, God to speak to us, like, in a spectacular, right? Like, we're waiting for, you know, the mountaintop experience or the miracle or, you know, that the moment that everything just changes at once and all along, right? Like, he often meets us in these ordinary morning routines, familiar voice, right? Same old, same old truth that we've heard before, but this time it just hits different, right? That's often how God speaks to us. And it's gratitude, right? It's gratitude that helps us to recognize that it's him speaking to us, that he's present with us. The man that wrote in, you know, that's on his fifth number, he could have dismissed the morning devotion as background noise, but instead he paid attention to what God was stirring up in him and tied it back to God. That's gratitude, bro. Listen, that is gratitude, sis. Gratitude turns this ordinary morning devotion or whatever, this moment or whatever, into an encounter. Gratitude is the posture, right? Like, that's our posture. Gratitude, it opens our eyes and it opens to see and it opens our heart to be receptive. I think that when I think about, you know, like, when Paul says this, you know, in giving thanks in all circumstances, it's not because all circumstances are good, but it's like God is present in all of them. And that's what he's trying to communicate to us. Thanksgiving and giving praise and showing gratitude, like I said, it's how we notice God's voice, it's how we notice God, that God is there and it's how we steward it, right? Like, it's how we steward his presence. Like, God is like, wow, like here I am and I'm showing up and you're so focused on, you know, your lack or whatever the case or just this lack of gratitude that you're not even recognizing that I'm here, you're not even recognizing the fruit of my presence that's available to you right now. And that's where the giving praise comes into place. us giving praise and us posturing ourselves and that gratitude it opens us up to be able to not only recognize it but like I say like we can actually then

experience the comfort and the grace and the peace that's available to us and I just want to remind you that um he's speaking in your ordinary too in your ordinary day-to-day like he's speaking to you too and thing is will you will you be receptive to will you posture yourself in gratitude enough to recognize and acknowledge when he's trying to show up and speak to you and get through to you whether it's through something that you're watching on pando whether it's a letter that someone's written in to you whether it's a conversation with a bunkie or somebody on the yard or something that you know somebody at the chow house says to you like are you receptive are you available for God to get through to and if not I just want to encourage you that gratitude is how you posture yourself to be receptive and to be available to to God's voice question what ordinary moment this week might have God been speaking to you and did you stop and get thanks for let me pray for us father open our eyes to your voice in the ordinary don't let me sleepwalk past the moments that you show up take me a person who catches you in the act and can give you thanks in a moment grow me in gratitude grow me in conviction open my eyes to see my heartbeat receptive and that I may value you probably proudest in your son Jesus name
