Get Out of Your Own Head | Mornings with Mico
When your thoughts revolve around you—your importance, your weaknesses, how others see you—the result is usually pride on one side or insecurity on the other. Mico gets honest about the anxiety and discontent he’s been carrying, what God revealed beneath it, and why freedom begins when we stop placing ourselves at the center. This episode is a vulnerable invitation to fix our eyes on God, embrace discipline, and let His strength speak through the places where we fall short.
yo yo top of the morning I want to share something with y'all today that um I don't know it's something that I've been wrestling with in my heart and it's something that I feel you know I love to just have this time to just kind of share with you like how what guys were feeling to me in my heart through what I've been dealing with maybe if maybe it blesses you maybe it maybe it gives the language to something that you may be wrestling with but most recently I've just found myself extremely like discontent extremely anxious uneasy just like I'm just like something's stirring up in me and I couldn't quite put my hand on like well what is wrong with me why am I like what is wrong what's going on with me what's going on in my heart what's going on to me I feel at moments I just feel sad you know what I mean like as a reason I was talking to my wife I'm like I don't even know I feel sad and it's crazy because I started to just sit and take inventory of like okay what what could be contributing to just my mood my heart feeling heavy and you know my thoughts feeling a bit scattered lately and just me just being in this place of just like I said uneasiness and a few things I realize that I've you know that I've been kind of finding myself like in this cycle of recently one being extremely wrapped up into self I have been so self-focused for I don't even know some weeks now and what I mean by that is like concerned with like how you know how how I'm being viewed concerned with you know my role in everything that I'm a part of just over concerned with you know God what do you want to do with me what do you want to do with me what do you want to do to me like so much of it is is like of course you know give God the glory for whatever he's doing but still hyper focused on my role that I get to play in things and I've realized like man like I've been trapped in like this this this this cycle in my mind where like throughout the day I'm constantly thinking of myself I'm constantly thinking of me and and and and as if you know over over like maybe overvaluing my role in any given situation or my voice in any given conversation or somehow in the conversation I feel it ends up being about me when I'm going on when I share something and I'm just like man that is like like when I hate that I hate that I
hate that that's you know like I think that's a condition of our flesh maybe some I deal with that more than others do I don't know maybe you can relate but it's like God I've been so focused on me and it's like I almost feel like you're like you know what Miko since you want to be so I'm gonna let you be full of yourself until it makes your stomach hurt you know what I'm saying like eating so much sweet that it then gives you a bellyache like that's what I feel like God's been doing with me where he's like you know what go ahead be full of yourself until you start you know reaping the consequences of it like internally emotionally and I think it's I love how like like when God like as we're called to worship God and fix our eyes on the guy it's not just for him it's like he didn't design us to be so self-focused he didn't design us to wear his glory he said his word says he will not share his glory with anyone so it's like even at times where if if I'm not placing myself at the center of a thing and like like self-exalting myself to an extent it's like either I'm on that side of the spectrum or I feel so unworthy and inadequate and like man God I can't measure up to do this thing or these things man like I'm not I'm further behind than I should be or I'm not as you know I don't have you know the same connections or the abilities that this person had and I think that like it's like the pendulum either I'm on this side or it swings to this side right like it's it's never this this this this right standing with God when I'm super focused on self I either end up on prideful or insecurity right like and I think it's like just been brought to my attention as I've been wrestling with this or really just kind of like passive in my thinking and allowing myself to just sit in that in that arm in that pattern of thinking that that that now it's like kind of like taking a step back and realizing like wow like as I'm as I'm recognizing how my mood is being impacted in my heart and just all of these things emotionally how it's impacting me and then and then then being able to identify exactly you know where some of that is coming from it's coming from this self-focus which which again man it's just that's not how God designed us
I should be fixed on him, the glory goes to him. And even as we sit in that, when we do, it doesn't, a lot of what it does is it keeps us from getting too prideful. But then also when we recognize like where maybe we don't measure up, it's like, okay, but God, I can still, I can still give that to you, right? Like I can still give you, like Paul says, I boast in my weaknesses, right? Because ultimately it just creates space. It gives you room to be glorified, right? Now you're glorified through my weaknesses because you've called me to do things that in my own strength, I'm not equipped to do. But because I'm not equipped to do it, that opens the door for you to be glorified because I have to give the credit to you. The glory goes to you because I couldn't do this on my own. But that's the way God's designed this. But sometimes we can get so fixated on self that the moment we realize, oh, this, I can't, I'm not equipped to do this, it can shift us to insecurity and feeling inadequate or if we do feel like we can take on something, like, right, we grow in this posture of pride and both of those, again, are equally wrong, right? The ideal posture is just to be centered in Christ-centered confidence. Lord, I thank you for the way you've designed me.
I thank you for just your grace that's been upon me and I thank you, Father, for my weaknesses and the outages I have because it causes me to, one, lean into help and lean into the body, right, brothers and sisters, and give them opportunities to be honored and come alongside, to help with the work that you've called us to. And then also, it creates space for you to be glorified. If you do call me to put my hands to that plow, it's still your strength, it's still your carrying the bulk of the load, right? You're still carrying a heavy weight. And I just, I don't know, I don't know where you are with that. Maybe that's something you struggle with, maybe it's not, but it's something that I find myself like regularly dealing with, man, and I just kind of wanted to be able to just have a vulnerable moment to share with you, like this is something that I'm finding myself at times wrestling with, and yeah, just open the door and let you know like, hey, this is kind of like something I find myself struggling with, and this is where God is pushing me towards, this is what God is revealing to me in this, man. Another thing that I'm recognizing, too, in this season is how, for me, I'll just say this, for me, I believe that when it comes to working out and stuff like that, it's not even simply about vanity.
For me, I believe it's one of the ways that God is calling me to be disciplined, because what it does is it crucifies my flesh, because left unchecked, my flesh can get lazy, but this is the way that God causes me to not just steward my body and steward, you know, so, you know, and my health, but also to crucify my flesh, to beat my flesh into submission to my will, and then my will is his will, right? My will is given to him, and I recognize, I remember last year, I was training for the half marathon and running 10 miles and eight miles at a time, and I found myself really, like, recognizing how much, when you're, like, how much discipline it takes, one, but then it's, like, the spiritual aspect to beating your body, your flesh, into submission of your will, like, that has spiritual impact, right? Like, that helps, at least for me, and other people that I've spoken to, it definitely helps you to position yourself and condition yourself to be susceptible to spiritual growth when you can discipline your body, because the body called, the word, the Bible tells us to die to our flesh daily, and that's one of the ways that not just dying to it, but killing it, killing my flesh by bringing it to a sense of, to a space of discipline that forces my flesh, my body to be submitted to my will, and when I find myself, like,
not consistent in my gym routine, I find my flesh a little, running a little more rampant as well, too, which ultimately also plays into my emotional state. Things like that, man. But, so yeah, just wanted to drop that in there as well, man, so this walk is, like I say, we walk in this thing together. None of us have this thing all figured out, but it's good to just share these things with each other, and for us all to learn and grow from each other. The word says that we overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony. Our testimony matters. Our testimony is to be shared, what we're dealing with, what God is, how God is using it, what God is teaching us, like, that is to be shared. The Bible says that's how we overcome. We don't have to show up to the table having things all figured out. Like, no, be open, be vulnerable, let people in. Tell people what it is you're dealing with and what it is that God is. Speaking to you winning because that may be what somebody else needs to help them get to the next season or get through, you know For the breakthrough or whatever it is that guy may be wanting to do with them So, um, so yeah wanted to leave y'all with that this went on a little longer than I anticipated But I hope this blessing somebody
