Welcome to Celebrate Recovery. Hey guys, welcome to Celebrate Recovery, the best place to be on a Tuesday night, amen? Yes, hey, I love my people, y'all are so cool. Anyways, my name is Kat, if you don't know, and I'm a grateful believer in Jesus Christ, and I, hey, what would we do without Ed? He makes us feel so special. I celebrate recovery from physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and I still struggle, I still struggle with fear and anxiety sometimes, but you know what? I'm so thankful that I got a safe place where I get to take off the mask and say, you know what, today I'm not okay, right? And there's no judgment, and so I thank you all for that. It looks a little light tonight, if you look around, you're like, whoo, where is everybody? Just a heads up, really quick, Fountain of Hope isn't here, and then Epperson's, as well as True Purpose, has guys working a basketball game. So, but here's the thing, how many of y'all, sometimes we just need a chill night, right? And so tonight, we're gonna have a chill night. Pastor Jeremy's our speaker tonight, and he always brings an amazing word, so I'm very excited. I was about to say, I don't see him, so I'm trying not to be nervous, but then I just see him over there, so we're all good. I can breathe again.

Hey, if this is your very first time at Celebrate Recovery, we are a 12-step faith-based program, which means that we only have one higher power, and that would be Jesus, amen, amen. I do wanna welcome our online community, and I know you've heard me say it over and over. We've got like 743 prisons that we stream into, and so I just wanna thank you all for joining us tonight. I don't think it's by accident that you're with us, and so I know that the Lord's gonna minister to you in a special way, so I hope you're prepared. I hope everybody in this room is prepared to receive something, amen? Amen, all right, so we're gonna start out with prayer, and then we're gonna have some amazing worship. How many of y'all get excited about our worship? I know I do, I know I do. All right, and then, obviously, Pastor Jeremy's gonna bring that word, so if you all would please go ahead and stand. Yes. So if y'all see me squinting, it's because I'm gonna try and read the words off the back wall. You ready? So we start with whose father? Our father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for that is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever, amen, amen. Y'all are welcome to have a seat for 2.5 seconds. So really quick, I wanna point out a couple things. One is, did you all know that we have an amazing resource table right over here in the back of the sanctuary? Normally, it is in the lobby, but while we're under construction, we've got it in the sanctuary, that if you need help with resources, we've got information on that table. It's not just about Celebrate Recovery stuff, which, that's good stuff, but we also have community partnerships that we have with other folks, and so if you're needing help with other resources, and here, you wanna write this down, if ever you need help with any kind of resource, if you go to findhelp.org, they will, they've got a multitude of resources available. So, all right, so with that being said, really quick, Katie Hawk is not here tonight, so our women's groups are gonna be combined. We're all gonna meet in room D, as in dames, and I will be facilitating that group.

Also, we have a 12-step women's group starting in February, and if you've not been through the 12 steps, let me tell you, it's life-changing. I can assure you, it's life-changing. You get with a group of women, and you get to work through your stuff, and then you get real tight, because you trust each other, and it's a safe place to process. So, really quick, can I invite Jason and Alec up here? They're going to do our 12 steps for us. Very excited. I know. I asked him before he had a chance to tell me no. It's called peer pressure. It still works. Can one of you all grab the other mic down there? All right. Here you go, sir. Good evening. I'm Jason, faithful believer in Jesus Christ. I'm Alec, and I'm also a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. Amen. All right. We're going to do the 12 steps, but the Lord kind of presses on my heart. When Cat asked me to speak, I'm like,

yes. And then I realized why. The Lord gave me this word. It's about the jawbone. And Judges 15, 15, Samson found a new jawbone and put forth his hand and took it, and he slew a thousand men. The jawbone represents the power of the mouth. The jawbone is directly connected to speech, declaration, utterance, and command. Victory through utterance, not weaponry. Samson's triumph points to the truth that God defeats enemies through what proceeds from the mouth. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Proverbs 18, 21. So right now, if we could all stand up and let's not just get some lip service, let's make some declarations. Let's speak life and let's claim victory with the 12 steps of biblical comparisons. Amen? Amen. All right. Step one, we admitted we were powerless over addictions and compulsive behaviors that our lives have become unmanageable. I know nothing good lives in me that is in my sinful nature, for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. Romans 7, 18. Amen. We came to believe that a power greater than

ourselves could restore us to sanity. For it is God who works in you to will and act according to fulfill his good purpose. Philippians 2, 13. Step three, we made a decision to turn our will and ourselves over to the care of God. Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship. Romans 12, 1. Step four, we made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. Lamentations 340. Step five, we admitted to God, to ourselves, and other human being the exact nature of our wrongs. Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other that you may be healed. James 5, 16. Step six, we are entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4, 10. Step seven, we humbly ask him to remove all our shortcomings. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from

unrighteousness. 1 John 1, 9. Step eight, we made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6, 31. Step nine, we made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift at the altar. First, go and be reconciled to your brother. Then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5, 23 through 24. Step 10, we continue to take personal inventory and we were when we were wrong, promptly admitted it. So if you think you are standing firm, be careful you don't fall. Corinthians 10, 12. Step 11, we saw through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God. praying only for the knowledge of his will for us and power to carry it out. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. Colossians 3 16. Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we try to carry this message to others and to practice these principles in all of our affairs. Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore that person gently, but watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Galatians 6

1. Amen. Now let's give God some glory. Amen. Amen. If I could real quick before I start, I want to speak to the incarcerated. Matthew 6 33 says that seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. And as I was sitting over there, I was thinking about all of the jail time, all of the years that I've seen wiped away. I've seen 29 years, people facing 29 years, 30 years, 15 years, all kinds of court fines. I've seen it, and I've seen the judge just go, we're wiping it all away. He can do it for you. All you got to do is seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all of these things is going to be added to you. Amen. Keep the faith in there. Keep the faith. Amen. So today I want to talk about free at last. All right, free at last. I want to talk a little bit about us, of course, being in that place of bondage that we all have been. Now some in here, of course, is not on drugs and alcohol, and that may not be your problem. Maybe it was food. Maybe it was other things, depression, anxiety, whatever you're dealing with. But however, whatever we're dealing with, we've got to watch it because what it tends to be is our slave master. And so when I talk about being finally free, that's what I want to talk about tonight. I want to talk about coming out of bondage and coming out of slavery. Because we know that Jesus Christ, if we know him as our personal Savior, he has brought us out of that bondage, and he has freed us. And I'm gonna go over that a little bit. But the power of Jesus Christ is here, and the power of Jesus Christ is with you whenever you need it. All you got to do is call upon him, and he will manifest himself. That's what he will do in your life. No matter what situation you find yourself in, no matter where you go, no matter what you do, if you're in the middle of a trap house and you call out to him, I truly believe that he will come and he will minister to you. Do you know that Jesus is not afraid of trap houses? He's not afraid of any of that. He's not afraid of the streets. He will go. He will walk right up in there because he wants to save you. He wants to help you. And that's what Jesus wants to do, and he wants to free us ultimately, fully, right, from slavery. Okay, so step one, we mentioned this earlier. I want to start with this, okay. But step one, it says that

we were, we admitted that we were what? Okay, so powerless. That means that we have no power, okay. We have no power within ourselves. We can't do it. We basically became a slave to something. Would that be correct? Now, when I talk about slavery, of course, you could say, well, yeah, I was a slave to drugs and alcohol. I was a slave to Oxycontin. I was a slave to this, slave to that. I want to, I want to, I want to go a little bit farther here. You have a slave master, and it's not just substances, and it's not just things of the world. 1 Corinthians chapter 4 says that the little G God of this world has come to blind the minds of them that they should not believe and receive the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ, meaning that what he wants to do is he wants to come and blind you, and he wants to be your slave master. And so when we find ourself being powerless, we have to understand that we all have an enemy, and that enemy wants you to be his slave and wants you to work for him. That's why we said, I'll never get on dope, or I'll never do this, or I'll never do that, and we found ourselves doing it. Why? Because we were a slave. It's hard for us to really imagine and admit that, but we need to admit it. What's that first part? We admitted. You've got to admit that, you know what? Yes, I was absolutely powerless, and I was a slave to the enemy, and I want to be free. Do you want to be free? Ask. Amen. If you want to be free, then you can be free. Jesus Christ will absolutely free you. We admitted that we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors, that our lives had become what? Unmanageable. Okay, so what does that mean? Has no management. If you go up into a store or go up into McDonald's or something like that, and the manager's not there, and a bunch of kids are running it, what do you think's gonna happen to your food? Yeah, it ain't gonna be good, probably. You're gonna be missing all kinds of stuff. Why? Because there's no manager there. Well, hey, when I don't have a manager over my life, including me, when I am not able to manage my life, and guess who is? Satan. And guess what he does? He wants to steal, to kill, and to destroy. So that's why but he wants to bring into my life. And so we got to understand and admit

that we were powerless, right? And that our lives have become unmanageable. Now let me talk about what a slave is in slide two here. Number one, a person who is legal is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them. And a person who is excessively dependent upon or controlled by something. So when we talk about being a slave to the slave master, which is the enemy, we get really accustomed to him, we get really used to him, and really basically all he tries to do is tell us where to go and what to do and how to act and we just submit to that. Over years and years and years of beating down, that's what the enemy wants to do. He wants to beat you down through trauma, he wants to beat you down through hurts and pains, he wants to beat you down through family situations, he wants to beat you down by never being able to say no to dope, he just wants to beat you and beat you and beat you into full submission to him. And that's what he wants to do. He wants you to be his slave. We were powerless and we become excessively dependent upon or controlled by him. Slide three, what I love to talk about when I talk about slavery is the children of Israel. I don't know if any of you ever looked at that,

but it's a very powerful story. Okay, Egypt isn't just Egypt. I know that that's in the Bible and I know we understand that that is exactly what happened, that the Israelites were in slavery and in bondage to Egypt. Okay, but Egypt to us and Egypt to me means hell. Egypt to me means the enemy because what? A Pharaoh is ruling over God's people and he shouldn't be. Who is the only one that should be ruling over God's people? God, that's exactly right. Anything else or anybody else that is ruling and reigning over us is a slave master and it is not of God. And so we see here in the children of Israel, they were slaves to Egypt, but also they were in slavery for 400 years. 400 years is astronomical. That's not just 10 years, that's not just 20 years. 400 years they were in slavery, meaning that generation after generation after generation after generation was in slavery. A kid was born, all he ever knew to see that every day that his dad was going into slavery, working 16 hours a day, coming home and going to bed and doing that same thing over and over again, despair, hopelessness, depression, all kinds of stuff that he was seeing. And then he knew that his granddad did the same thing and his dad and his brothers as they got old enough. And as soon as he got old enough,

he knew that he was gonna be doing that. Day in, day out, that was his life. He saw that over and over and over. And generations, grandparents, sons, grandsons, all of that was just happening. If you look, a generation is approximately 30 years. So we see that there was 13.3 generations of slavery. Have you had family issues to where all of your families used? Did your granddad use? Did your grandma use? Did their granddads use? Did their mom use? Do we see poverty that has been all in our family? Do we see all kinds of issues that go all the way up? And what happens is that what the enemy tries to do is he wants to absolutely take out as many people as he possibly can so he can affect generations. I'm sitting in front of a bunch of people that can be curse breakers. I'm sitting in front of a bunch of people that can stop right now and the buck stops right here with your generation. Nobody says that your kid has to be slaves either. Nobody said that your kid has to be a slave like your granddad was and you were and all. Nobody said that. They don't have to be slaves. They can be walking free for the rest of their life

and all their life. They don't ever have to know drugs and alcohol. My family will look at me sometimes, especially my daughters, and they say, Dad, you used to be on drugs and alcohol. And I said, yeah. She's like, man, I cannot imagine that. I can't even imagine you smoking a cigarette. I said, yeah, I did. I did some bad things. I said, but this is what's happening. You're really seeing the butterfly instead of the caterpillar. Now, I'm so glad that my daughters didn't see the butterfly but all they're seeing is the caterpillar but all they're seeing now is the butterfly and that's powerful. I have broke the curse in my family. Nobody ever needs in my family to do drugs and alcohol again. Amen. Amen. All right, so Exodus 3, seven through 12. Let's read this. Very powerful. And the Lord said, I have surely seen the oppression of my people who are in Egypt. And I've heard their cry because of their taskmasters for I know their sorrows. So if we, and we're gonna keep reading here in just a minute, but if we would understand this,

this is kind of like our prayers at times. We have had prayers when we're laying in the bed at night when nobody's around and tears are running down our face and we're saying, God, you've gotta help me. God, I need you. My life has become. Absolutely unmanageable. I mean, I've got all this stuff hanging over my head. My wife is leaving me My kids are being taken away from me. I'm trying to act cool on the outside, but I'll tell you I have got to have you Guess what God heard those prayers He has heard your sorrows. He has heard how you want to be delivered from that bondage next verse So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from the land to a good and large land to a land flowing with milk and honey to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Preserites and the Hivites and the Jebusites That's a bunch of ites nine, please Now therefore behold the cry of the children of Israel has come to me And I have also seen the oppression which the Egyptians have oppressed them. Okay, keep reading a little bit more We're gonna go a couple more verses come now Therefore I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people the children of Israel out of Egypt first one But Moses said to God Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt last one? Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of oh, I'm sorry. That's Colossians 1 Okay, well, we'll leave 12 out. That's fine. Well, we'll do that here in just a minute Well, we need to do that Anyway, giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance and the Saints of light He has delivered us from the what? Power of darkness and conveyed us or translated us into the kingdom of his dear son Okay, so we see here that father God heard your cries and he heard your prayer Even when you didn't even know what to pray or how to pray

We see that God says I hear you and I know what you're dealing with and I know what you're going through and I want To come and deliver you out of your particular bondage and so he says this one thing I'm going to do is I'm going to send my son Jesus and my son Jesus is going to come and die on the cross and he is going to go down to hell and take back the keys of sin and death and he's going to send up to me and offer his blood on the eternal sacrifice and Forever forever forever anybody that comes after him anybody that comes in need Jesus Christ and be free from bondage. All you got to do is receive my son. That's the gospel in a nutshell And that's exactly what he did. No matter when you prayed it no matter what you did God heard your prayer and he says I have sent my son to be able to deliver you and that's what Colossians 1 says that We have been delivered from the power of darkness So no longer can we say that darkness has power over us? Do y'all get that if you have received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior? We can no longer say that the devil made me do it We can no longer say that the devil has power over me and I just can't say no Yes, you can because now you have the God the God that created heavens and earth that is living inside of you that has all the power in the world and has all the power in the heavenlies and he will give you all the power that you Ever could need to do anything that you stand in need of and to do Paul says I could do all things through Christ who strengthens me He knows that that power is there for us to come into amen. So slide 5 Now God has freed us spiritually now. We have to allow God to free us mentally That's one of the hardest things for us to do We're gonna see here in the children of Israel that what we saw is that slavery or a slave was taken out of slavery But it was hard because the slavery had not been taken out of the slaves They had walked out of Egypt had gotten to the Red Sea and they were sitting there and it was parting and What did they do? They turned on Moses because they saw their enemies coming up upon them And so they started talking to Moses saying Moses. Why'd you bring us all the way out here die? Oh, don't you know that we would have rather stayed in Egypt be slavery there's a saying man that I think about when when I look at this and it's better to Die free than to live in slavery

But they didn't get that They wanted to go back into slavery because why that's all they ever knew It was accustomed to them. It was a part of their life It was intertwined into their heart and they just learned how to be okay with it I talked to individuals all the time my brothers and sisters who are comfortable going to jail Jail doesn't is no sweat at all going into jail. They've learned how to be in jail They learn how to how to survive in jail. It's just a no another system They can go do it anytime they want to and they're cool That's what's happened though. Is that we have got so accustomed to jail in prison. It's okay if we're in jail in prison It's okay If we're in a jail cell why because we have learned our how to survive in that in that atmosphere But we've got to understand that we've got to allow that to come out of our mind, okay, because God has freed you spiritually. How has he freed you spiritually? Okay, I've got a few more minutes. When we talk about Romans 6, 6, the Bible says that the old man is crucified with Jesus on the cross. What is that old man? That old man is your old man of sin, your old man of drugs and alcohol, your old man of overeating, your old man of depression, your old man of just all sin. And what that old man has is a sin nature. Sin basically comes natural to that man. And that was what was striving for drugs and alcohol, striving for the things of the world, striving for sin, striving to just go deep, deep, deep into slavery. But it says there in Romans 6, verse 6, that it says your old man was crucified with Jesus on the cross. A lot of people can't comprehend that statement because, man, I'm here in 2025, if I were to give my heart to Jesus, how can I go back and be crucified with Jesus on the cross? See, God is a God of eternity. And it doesn't matter what year you do it.

But when you do it, whether it's 2025 or not, whatever, that when you give your heart to Jesus, exactly what happens is eternally you are crucified with Jesus on the cross. You know what that means? Your old man got the death penalty. That's the best way to describe it. Your old man died. You know what? There's no bringing back your old man. There's no resurrecting him. He's gone and he's gone forever. And guess who comes in now? A new man. The Bible says a new man is risen after Jesus Christ, risen with Jesus Christ. So we know that that new man that is risen with Jesus Christ now comes in and lives with us. And now we have a brand new spirit, man, that has a totally different nature now. It is no longer that sinful nature. Guess what nature it is? It's God's nature. And so God's nature now is living and dwelling in you. And now that is where we get freed absolutely from any kind of slavery, bondage, or power of the enemy. And so what we've got to make sure is we've got to say now, where's my mind at? Can my mind lead me into slavery? Can my mind go back to the enemy and say, here you go, entrap me one more time? Can the enemy get me to do things and get me to go back into his snare and continue on in that slavery? Because he cannot make you do it, but guess what he can do? He can entice you to do it. And so what do we have to do?

We have to take the slavery out of the mind. We've got to start renewing our mind. Romans 12, 1 through 2, it says, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. So we offer our body as a sacrifice to him. And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, your mind, that you may prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. That word transform there, I always like to say it every time I read the scripture, but that word transform there is the Greek word metamorphou. It's where we get metamorphosis. And so basically, Paul is describing right there that when you renew your mind, you are moving from a caterpillar to a butterfly. What does a caterpillar do? Caterpillar goes into the cocoon and waits for a while, and he's there, and he's humble, and he sits there. And all that time, things are happening in his body, things are happening in his mind, things are happening all over his being. But eventually, he comes up out of that cocoon, and he looks totally different than what he did when he went in. That's what happens when we start to renew our mind. But it all starts with the power of Jesus Christ that is inside of us, the divine nature that we have all been given, amen? So let's look at here. So what do we got to do? We got to start changing our habits, and I'm closing, okay? I know I'm running out of time, but I'm closing. All right, so slide six says habit. A habit is a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously. The American Journal of Psychology defines a habit from the standpoint of psychology

as a more or less fixed way of thinking, willing, or feeling acquired through previous repetition of a mental experience. Man, does that not speak to you? How many habits do we have, especially drugs and alcohol? When we were a slave to the slave master for 25 years, how many days did we just do the same thing over and over again? Go to the same places, do the same dope, drink the same beer, whatever, drink the same alcohol, whatever it is. How many times did we just do that over and over and over, and we got so accustomed and so trained that it was hard to break out the habit? We've got to start breaking those habits. You need to get treatment, whatever it is that you're dealing with, and you talk to somebody. You need to start doing things differently, because when you break that habit, you're going to see that the slave is going to be, or the slavery is going to be taken out of the slave. You're no longer that slave. Christ has freed you, but now the slavery is going to be taken out, amen? We habitually live in bondage or we habitually live in freedom, y'all get that? We habitually live in bondage or we habitually live in freedom. I do not, I'll just tell you this, and I am not boasting at all, I promise you that. I don't want to boast at all. It is all in the power of Jesus Christ. But I got to tell you, I have, I don't know how long it's been, probably 20 years maybe since I have even desired a drug or alcohol, at least, at least 20, it might even be 25. That desire is nowhere in me, it repulses me. I can look at dope on the ground, I can look at a pill on the ground, I can look at beer, liquor, whatever, and I feel nothing inside. The only thing I feel inside is, get that and throw it out so nobody else can get it. Step on it, crush it, whatever you got to do so nobody else will die from it.

That's the way I feel because I have been living in freedom for so long, my habit now is freedom. And you know what, don't worry about it's only 30 days right now, it's okay, that's 30 days. Don't worry that it's 60 days, it's okay, it's 60 days. One day you can look and be in 3 years, 4 years, 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, and say man I'm so glad that I've changed my habits and Jesus Christ saved me, amen, amen, amen. This is my last one, alright, I'm closing right here, 8 o'clock, why is that funny Steve, you don't think I'm crazy, you don't think I'm closing, it's the last one. The more we walk away from our captivity, the more we experience freedom. So let me show you this, our bondage is over here, our freedom is over here, but as we walk up out of that bondage and we start walking to the promised land, we start walking to where God has called us to go, look how far we are from the bondage. Now we don't need to walk out of bondage and hang around bondage just on the other side, because that right there is just right there, anytime we want to go in there we can, okay. We want to say I want to keep walking and I want to get so far away from it and I want to experience the goodness of God. That verse 12 in Exodus that we didn't read, basically God was saying I want to take them to the promised land, the land that was flowing with milk and honey. That land that is over here that God has destined for you to be, where you have your kids back, where you have your successful job, where you have a house, where you have a vehicle, where you have your wife or your husband, whatever. God wants to restore all that and that's the land that's flowing with milk and honey, amen. The Red Sea is your deliverance, the meaning, the reason we say the Red Sea is your deliverance is because the children of Israel walked through the Red Sea and guess who followed them? The enemy, the slave master. The slave master went to take them back into captivity, but as they walked through the Red Sea and as they got all the way through it, the waters crashed in on the Egyptians and all of them were killed.
