Foreign Foreign Foreign Foreign Foreign Foreign Foreign of Resurrection celebrating the King of Kings and ladies and gentlemen, you may take a seat. There are stories that one does not know if to tell because they are not beautiful, but they are necessary. In 1873, there was a man named Horatio, he was not a famous preacher, he was not a recognized theologian, he was a lawyer and a man of family. And someone like any of us here presents a man with plans, with a routine, with a future, until life changed the script. There are plans, there is direction, we all dream for the beautiful. And first in that process of changing the script, his son dies. A fire. And of those who do not warn, of those who do not negotiate, of those who tear you something, a piece of your heart. And they do not ask you for permission. And one would think, okay, the worst has already happened in my life, there is nothing else, but sometimes life hits us once again, again and again and again. And time later, he sends his wife and four daughters to Europe. It is a rest trip, a new beginning, after the loss that this man experienced. And he stays behind because he says, I will catch up with you later. There are times when one says those words, phrases that we have all said, as if not knowing, then everything could change. Everything, of course, could be different. The ship leaves, and everything seems normal until it collides in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. And in minutes, everything sinks.

Chaos, screams, darkness. And in the midst of all this, his four daughters die. Days later, Horatio receives a telegram with two words. In English it would say, Saved Alone. Salva sola. When he sees it, he sees that his wife survived. But his daughters did not. Now stand there for a moment, not as a believer, but as a father. Although obviously we can combine both things, as a human being. What to do with that pain? What do you do with that loss? What do you do with that silence? That at a distance you have no control of anything, of everything you have. Horatio takes the next ship, and in the middle of the journey, the captain approaches him when he reaches his destination and says, Here it was. Here it sank. And he is there, standing, in the exact place where he lost his daughters, in that place. And this is where this story changes everything. Because obviously there is pain, there is grief. We are not going to cover that reality. And in the middle of that process, he did not scream. He did not break as we would expect. Although it was natural to do so. But right there he began to write. And he writes something that to this day we have enchanted him in English, and even in Spanish. He says, When peace, like a river, accompanies my path, when the waves of the sea come, whatever my fate, you taught me to say,

Because this is where the personal comes from. Because we all live from something called hope. We talk about hope and today we are here because we have embraced the idea of hope. Who resurrected? Who resurrected? Christ resurrected and we know that there is hope in Christ. You get up waiting for the day to go well, many times we call that hope. You make decisions waiting for it to work, waiting for God to do something. Because if we are honest, many times our hope is nothing more than this, a desire, a longing, a possibility, a beautiful phrase, everything is going to be fine, I have hope that everything is going to be fine and we say God is in control, right? But inside we are not sometimes sure. Because there is a difference between wanting something and being sure of something. And here comes a truth that is uncomfortable, never underestimate the ability of a person to justify himself. Sometimes we justify ourselves with our daily realities and we think that our hope is the little things that we achieve. But there is something bigger than this, we say to have faith, but many times it is make-up uncertainty, beautiful, superficial, painted, right? Because there are people who say, I trust in God until life changes. Like this man, he changed everything, right? But what he wrote had an impact. We say we trust in God until we receive that call, until a diagnosis comes, until something breaks. And in that moment everything is lost, everything is lost, probably even peace. Hope is lost. And then the question is this, will there be a hope that does not break?

That it does not depend on how I feel, that it does not fall when life gets complicated, that it is not just a desire but a clear certainty in the heart. Will that exist? And the answer is what? The answer is what? For some reason we are here today. But it does not begin in you, it begins in what God did. In 1 Peter 1, verse 3, and we are going to work on some verses there, it begins saying, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ. And it is here where Peter shows us, the great Peter, writing that letter, that there is a hope that is sure, but that is based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And then the question is, can there be a hope that is really sure? Peter says here, yes, if it exists, then, if we follow verse 3, it says, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has made us be born again in a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Peter does not begin with a piece of advice. We do not like advice, or maybe some do not. He begins with worship. But when you see God well, your heart responds, that is why it worships. And the beautiful thing is that it says, according to his great mercy, and here is the origin of all our effort, our discipline, it is the mercy of God who works with your life, with my life. God did not react to you, God reached you. God reached you. And the most beautiful thing I see here in this process, while I read these verses, is that God reaches you and says that he has made us be born again. They did not adjust your nuts, although we need some. They made you new, he made you new. It is not a better version of you, because sometimes it says,

the ten steps for the better version of Arnaldo. I read books out there. It's not a better version of you, it's another life in you. And if life is new, hope is too. There is a living hope, it doesn't depend on the day, it doesn't depend on how you feel, it's alive and constant and here is the center of everything, through the resurrection of Christ. And that's why we can repeat it over and over again. Christ is risen! Christ is risen! Amen! Give him a round of applause! Christ is risen! And here everything changes. Peter doesn't say, have faith because yes, he says, have hope. Your hope has a basis because something happened. And it's not emotion, it's not philosophy, it's history. It's history. There is something that we don't say much in the church, but it's real. Not everyone believed in Jesus at the beginning. And maybe in the process of history we can see it over and over again until today. Not even his own family. Santiago, the brother of Jesus, grew up with him. He's a brother, flesh and blood. He ate with him. He lived under the same roof. He saw Jesus in the daily life. It's not a miracle, first in the normal, come, get up in the morning, let's eat what you ate. And yet, he didn't believe. In John 7, verse 5 it says, because even his brothers didn't believe in him. That verse brings me, it tightens my heart. I don't know if I'm the only one. Imagine that for a moment, your brother saying, I'm the son of God. You smile. Because you saw him grow up, you saw him sleep, you saw him like a normal brother. And now he says that, the most natural thing is what? Not to believe. Among the brothers, he looks and says, no, I know everything about you. Of course, Jesus, who was Jesus? The son of God. Santiago wasn't necessarily an enemy. He wasn't an enemy, but he wasn't a disciple either. He wasn't a follower. He was close, but he wasn't convinced. Like the reality of many people today, here, they can see us on the internet. Maybe they say, well, close to the church, close to messages, close to the truth, but without giving up completely. We don't give up, but something happens, something changes. Not little, it changes everything. Jesus dies, and that's where everything ends. Or not? The leader is dead, the movement is over.

My brother is gone, hope is buried. But no, we know. Some have already read the story. In Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, the Gospels and the letters. Jesus is resurrected, and the Bible gives us a detail that changes the story of Santiago. Because in 1 Corinthians it says that later Jacob appeared. Jacob who? Santiago. Direct, not to a crowd, but directly to him. And we don't know exactly what they said to each other. Maybe, do you remember, brothers, when we were crossing the river? I don't know. And he says, are you alive? Yes, I live you. I don't want to put words that don't exist now in the Bible. I'm not going to be very creative, there's no time for that. But he didn't believe, and now he believes. And not only does he believe, he surrenders. He becomes the leader of the church in Jerusalem. And not only that, he lives his faith until death. History records that he was executed for his faith in Jesus. And now, I want you to think this with me. Who dies for a lie? For having someone resurrected. And something deeper, maybe, is who dies for something that he knows is a lie about his own brother. Santiago wasn't defending an idea. He wasn't trying to philosophize if he was resurrected or not. He wasn't deciding an emotion. He had seen Jesus, period. He had seen him and resurrected him. He had seen him, he was alive, he breathed. He showed who he was, and that changed everything.

So the resurrection not only convinced the followers. It convinced the closest skeptics of that moment. Because if someone could say, this is not real. It was Santiago. And that leaves us with a very uncomfortable truth. That maybe you are not against Jesus today, but you haven't completely surrendered either. He's close, and the question is not, what else do you need to see? The question is, what are you going to do with the evidence of the resurrection? With the resurrected Jesus. Christ died, Christ rose again, and that means that the strongest reality of the universe is not death, but that He overcame death. He overcame it. That's the Christian hope. He doesn't rely on what could happen, he relies on what already happened. And after the cross, the disciples were not full of faith. They were hidden. They were running with fear, confused, without hope. Peter, the one who said, I will never deny Jesus, what did he do? We are all experts here in that. Even the rooster got into the story. A rooster. Poor rooster. I don't know if it's his fault or Peter's now. But something happens, Jesus resurrects. And that same Peter gets up and says, Jesus lives. And sustains him until his death. They didn't defend an idea, they defended a reality. And that changed everything. Look at what verse 21 of that chapter says. Through Him, they believe in God.

Who resurrected Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that the faith and hope of you be in God. Or be in God. Not even your faith begins with you. It says, everything begins with me. Nothing to do. God led you to believe. God convinced you. God has worked with you from the beginning. God saw you from your mother's womb. And now your hope is not floating. It is anchored in God Himself. There is a verse in 1 Corinthians that says, If we have waited in Christ only for this life, we are the most worthy of pity. That reaches me. If we have waited in Christ only for this life, we are the most worthy of pity. Basically, this verse tells me, If Christ did not resurrect, all of this will fall. Why are we here? If this were a fairy tale, worship and feel the presence of God as I felt it, perhaps many of you today, really, if that is not really something that shows you that God is in this place, I don't know what else He will do. His Holy Spirit is here. He is dwelling in you. He manifests Himself in our midst because He said it that way when He ascended to heaven.

But if Christ resurrected, everything is sustained today. So resurrection is not just a doctrine, as sometimes the doctrine of resurrection is said, or it can be called that way. It is the moment when God declares these words, sin does not win, death does not win, and darkness does not win. Period. It is over. Christ won. Christ won. He won. And if Christ won, your story is not defined by your worst moment. If Christ defeated death, nothing in your life has the last word. So the question is not, do I have hope? The question is, where is my hope founded? That is the question. That changes everything. Where is it founded? And do you know where all of this is born? What we are talking about today. It is born of grace. It is born of grace. So if we saw that our hope is so clear in the resurrection, the question now is more personal. How is that hope sustained in your daily life? How? Because one thing is to say Christ resurrected, and another thing is to say, to have peace on any Tuesday. This continues more than today. When you are tired, when you don't understand,

when the pressure is on you, there is revealed what is in the heart, where your hope is born. It is the grace of God in your life. Look at what verse 13 says. Prepare your understanding, be sober, and put your hope completely in what? In grace. It is profound. Therefore, if this is true, this changes how you live. Prepare your understanding. Do not live automatically. Do not let your mind... My name is Gerardo Sosa. I would ask for help from the military. As a consequence of being in the military, I always lived a semi-loved life. We come from the first marriage that we had in Uruguay.

Actually, in Uruguay, it all started with the change in my life. I am married to my wife Laura. We have been married for 20 years. I am married to Leo and Gabriel. Actually, they have helped me to overcome many things. Everything started for us in Uruguay. I was born in Mexico. I lived there until I was 10 years old. I came with my grandparents. When I was 6 months old, my parents took me to the U.S. They took me to the U.S. to study. I basically grew up here in the U.S. I always remember that we went to the U.S. together. I grew up in Cantona. We always went to the U.S. I don't remember having a personal relationship with the U.S. I don't remember that. I remember going to church to do these things. I don't remember having a personal relationship with the U.S. When I was a teenager, that never happened. When I graduated from high school, I joined the military. When I was in the military, obviously I never had that spiritual foundation. So all the time I was in the military, I was separated from Jesus Christ, from God. I didn't know any of those things. I always knew that it was something that I lacked. It was something that I wanted, but I didn't know how to do it. I didn't know how to navigate those waters, basically. So again, being in the military, as a result of being in the military, I made four deployments to the Middle East. Two in Iraq and two in Afghanistan.

During all those rotations, obviously I saw a lot of suffering. I saw the violence that humanity can be capable of. Not as different as many of you from countries where there is violence. In Mexico especially, all the violence that exists right now. But it's a little different to experience that type of violence when they are committing it to you, or when you are committing acts of violence. So that was always something that I struggled with internally. I had a lot of problems with that. I was very angry. I was very disconnected. And as I told you, it was in Hawaii that it really started to change for me. My spiritual life in Hawaii was where I started for the first time. It was when I read the whole Bible. It was the first time. I was 40 years old. 40 years old when I read the Bible for the first time. And for me, the book of Job stayed firmly in my mind. Not because it compares my story to that of Job, but that story spoke to me. Obviously, for those of you who know the story of Job, he went through so much suffering, so much loss. And during all that, he never rejected God. So for me, that was very, very impactful. Aside from the fact that we are suffering, we can be angry. We can complain to God. And aside from that, He will always forgive us. Because when you continue with the story, what was most impactful to me about the story of Job is when it comes closer to the end of the book. When Jesus, not Jesus, I mean God, God forgave him.

Pero siempre es muy fácil culpar a dios por toda la maldad de este mundo ¿Verdad? Y no es hasta que te pones a pensar en que En que en realidad dios no no permite la maldad en este mundo, dios permite a la humanidad Si dios vendiera hoy Y nos juzgara ¿Cuántos de nosotros podríamos sobrevivir a eso? ¿No? Y en realidad es que así no son las cosas Como les digo es muy fácil culpar a dios pero ¿Cuántas veces?
