Day 71: The ones who are off-limits. | The Walk Out
Some of the people on your list, you legally can’t contact. A no-contact order. A condition of your sentence. A protective order. A rule from the system that’s clear and final.
You still have to do the work — but you have to do it without breaking the rule.
TODAY’S TRUTH You can do reckoning work for someone you’re not allowed to contact. You don’t get to break the rule to do it.
THE READ “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.” — Romans 12:19
The verse is about revenge but the principle applies here too. Some things have to be left to God. You don’t always get to be the one who makes it right. Sometimes you have to step back and let Him handle it.
In your own words — what's this saying to you?
THE REAL The no-contact rule is usually there for a good reason. Often the person needs protection from you, or you from them, or both. Honor the rule. Even when your guilt is screaming at you to reach out and explain.
Reaching out anyway, in violation of the order, is not actually about apology. It’s about you. It’s you trying to relieve your own guilt by forcing the contact the person clearly didn’t want. It causes more harm. It also gets you in worse trouble. Don’t do it.
What you can do:
Pray for them. By name. Daily if you need to. Pray for their healing. Pray for their safety. Pray for their good — including the parts of their good that mean staying away from you forever.
Live the changed life. The no-contact rule doesn’t stop you from being a different person. The next people in your life — your family, your future relationships, your kids, your friends — will benefit from the work you’re doing. The person you can’t contact won’t see it, but other people will.
Give it to God. Tell God: “I owe [name] an apology. I can’t deliver it. I’m trusting You with what I can’t reach.” He can carry it. He can do what you can’t.
The temptation will be to feel like the apology doesn’t count if they don’t hear it. It does. The work happens in you whether or not they ever know.
PULL UP Who’s on your list that’s off-limits? Have you been tempted to break the rule? Why?
Write it out — don't just think it:
THE MOVE Today, pray for that person by name. Out loud. The full prayer — for their healing, their safety, their good. Even the parts that exclude you.
Did it today? ☐ Yes ☐ Not yet — what happened when you did?
TRACK IT What was it like to pray for them?
