about how I want my relationship with God to be? Because the truth is that for many of us, we have much higher standards and we are much more passionate about the Christmas season than about having a relationship with God all year. And I love parties, I love Christmas, I want to express every tradition and have all the good fun, and I want to feel all the emotions. But the best feeling is obtained when you complement a heart that seeks God 365 days a year. A life that tries to transform itself to be like your life, instead of trying to transform my family life or my life to be the definitive Christmas standard that people think I need to fulfill. Because it's impossible, it's just very difficult. And if we seek perfection in the aspect of our Christmas, we will feel disappointed. That's one of the biggest gifts I can give you today. Friend, just lower your expectations of how Christmas will look, just lower them. And then maybe they will come true. Maybe accidentally something good happens if you just lower the bar, you take the bar that is up here, you just lower it down here, and maybe other people accidentally walk on the bar and they are fine.

Maybe they jump the bar by accident, but the higher the expectations, the more structure in life, the less spiritual connection we will have with God at Christmas. Perfection causes tension, but here I show you a very tense verse from the Bible. It's from Jesus, the greatest teacher of all time, recognized by all people in all corners of the world, by all religions, by all corners of the planet. This is what Jesus said, so you must be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect. How do you feel? Does it give you Christmas spirit? The expectation that God has for you is that you reach perfection. In other words, He has the same expectation for you as you have for Christmas. Now, there are some different things happening here, but what I want to do is say, well, perfection could be acceptable if we are pursuing the type of perfection that is appropriate with the type of correct relationship. Look, God has the expectation that you are perfect for yourself, but it's not the way you imagine it, in which I will go deeper in a moment. These words that Jesus gives are intended to be words of aspiration,

not words of condemnation. They are words of, you can become like God. I've been repeating this the last few weeks, and I will do it today. The most important thing for God, His main objective, is that you be like Him. He wants to form you spiritually so that you are like Him. That's His. That is His highest call for your life, and that's why He will use anything to make that happen. A great Christmas, a bad Christmas, whatever it is, He will use it, because He wants you to be like Him, and how He is, is perfect. If He wants us to be like Him, that must be the aspirational value, our destiny. In Matthew 1, verse 18, there is perfection because Jesus will be born. He is perfect, but everything around Jesus is imperfect. Everything. Let's look at Matthew 1, verse 18. I'm going to alternate between the two Gospels of Christmas, Matthew and Luke, and this says in Matthew 1, verse 19, this was the birth of Jesus Christ, when Mary, His mother,

was promised to Joseph before they got together. She was pregnant by the Holy Spirit, and her husband, Joseph, being a just man, without wanting to embarrass her, decided to repudiate her in private. She is promised. This is basically a strengthened commitment of industrial force, a commitment with steroids. When you are promised in the ancient world, everything is already done and concluded, except for the official ceremony and the sexual relationship. It's not just a broken commitment. Everything is practically over. But while he considered these things, what things? These things that Mary has told him that she was already pregnant before Joseph and Mary had had intimacy. And she says, it's from God. It's the Son of God. Wow, that's good. It's from God, that's what she thinks. But considering this, that is, considering that it was ridiculous, that it was not true, here an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid, take Mary as your wife, because what is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. The angel says to Joseph, your future wife is right, what she has comes from God.

This is important, Joseph, do not lie. When we think of someone being born, that's what Christmas is about, the child Jesus being born, or the son of Mary and Joseph being born. We think of the perfect images that we see on television, or that we see in works of art. They are the perfect images that you may have in your manger, in your center table, or something like that. We imagine a beautiful, pleasant, beautiful, stable structure. It is our manger, a beautiful scene of a stable. We see Mary and Joseph happy and smiling, although they are of darker skin. We see everyone happy and joyful. We see the animals around, looking at the little baby, all happy and clean, and they do not smell. And we see Jesus, the little baby Jesus, in this beautiful crib of fashion. And then we see snow on the ceiling, a perfect and original Christmas scene. The only problem is that nothing is true. None of that is true. There was no place in the manger. This is not a perfect Christmas. This is not a perfect first birth. There was no place in the manger. So they will give birth where the animals are, which would have been in a cave, not in a beautiful stable, in a cave. Because it was cheap. It was there. It was what was there.

They were there almost always. And there were no animals around looking. And the thing in which Jesus is placed is not a crib of elegant wood. That is the manger. The manger is not the scene of the stable. The manger is the dining room, the food bowl for the cattle. Jesus is placed inside something where a cow has been drooling not a long time ago. This is not perfect. There is nothing beautiful in the original Christmas at all. So in your Christmas, whatever imperfections you have in your Christmas, whatever dirty things you have in your Christmas, once those things begin to happen, or now, now you are approaching the original Christmas. Now you are coming. That said, there is room for tradition. There is room for beauty. And all of us, we seek to create Christmas memories. Why not all year, but especially at Christmas? If others do it, so do we. We have to create good memories for the children, if there are any, for the couple,

for the friends, for the spouse. It is something good and honorable. Maybe that is why Christmas is special. It is like a national heritage. People have been doing this. And maybe we see our flaws, whatever the flaws may be in your family, maybe we see the best of our family and friends during Christmas. Because people try to be extra kind and create good memories. There is nothing wrong with that at all. Clark remembers those days of his youth when things seemed to be going well. Maybe those were the best days for his family. And in the end he is trapped in a dump and everyone leaves him there. And he is trapped without being able to escape from that attic where it is very cold. And he discovers an old 8mm projector. A movie projector and some old movies. And guess what? They are Christmas movies. And he begins to relive some of his favorite memories, powerful and lost, a long time ago. to have close. He is just remembering what is in the frame, what he saw in the movies. And we all know that when they record us, it is when we behave better, right? We all know it. We all know it. He is seeing the best of people in those fragments. He does not remember how they were in reality. And his expectations crush everyone around him. You can see his children several times putting their eyes in white in front of their father. You can see his wife losing her composure and can not be up to what Clark wants. And you never see in the movie, as in real life, that when someone seeks perfection for himself, for his gratification, the relationships break. You do not see important conversations between him and the children. There is a lot of resurgence because it requires a lot of energy to reach his Christmas ideal. It is difficult. Just focus on others and think about them and bless them.

Perfection. The second part is this. Perfection leads to destruction. When you want perfection, and although I read that Jesus wants us to be perfect like him, this is true. I will talk about the solution in a moment. But if you believe what that implies, it is that you must do everything correctly so that God loves you. If you think what that means, you have to reach that level. You have to raise your morality bar every year so that God is satisfied with you. If you think that means that you have to meet some standard of holiness or God will not accept you, he will destroy your faith. Perfection is destruction. If you think that performance is what works, eventually you will be very tired, exhausted, and you will destroy it. Many of the people I know who have lost their faith lately or have adhered to another faith

were people like that. They were very strict, hyper-moral. They invented rules. They invented more rules because they wanted more rules. And in the end, that destroys you. You cannot maintain it. And Clark's expectation of performance during Christmas finally collapses. Eventually, he begins to lose his mind. And this scene marks the beginning of when everything really begins to disintegrate. What a man! Yes, yes, there he loses his mind. He cannot. He has collapsed. He waits for the check that will give him his perfect In his place, his nerves collapse. Friends, this is what happens. We have standards that God does not have about how our life should look. God does not even have standards for our life. He does not even have a standard for you to be married. Getting married is a good idea,

for a lot. He does not have a standard for you. You do not have a standard, but we have standards. We have many children. The Bible does not tell you how many children to have. It does not have a standard for you in terms of all kinds of things. He does, but by continuing to put standards where there are no standards about our Christmas traditions, or how families and friends should be, and how they should treat us, we will self-destruct. It will not work. None of our lives is perfect. None. Our families are not perfect. Our children are not perfect. If you have children, it is not perfect. If you have a partner, it is not perfect. If you go out with someone, it is not perfect. If your mother or father are not perfect, your friends are not perfect. Absolutely nothing is perfect. But the intensity of Christmas and the expectations that are imposed on us about how our life should look and all these things only generates more pressure to achieve it. That is why many of us

left Christmas a long time ago. Maybe we lowered our expectations a lot. We no longer want to participate in a good celebration because we have been destroyed. No one has a Christmas without stress. No one has a perfect Christmas including the Holy Family, including the original family of Christmas. Those would be Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. Mary, Mary, it was not perfect for Mary to be pregnant outside of marriage. That is not perfect. It was not perfect for Joseph at all that his incursion into paternity was outside of someone he is raising who does not even have his own DNA. This is where it begins. Let's go to Luke chapter 2. Kyle mentioned this very well a couple of weeks ago. The interesting thing about Luke is that he was not one of the original twelve apostles. He appears to be from the second generation. He is a doctor.

He is a very, very intelligent guy. He would have understood scrolls and books and all that. And one of his sources of information, a key source of information with the book of Luke and the book of Acts is Mary, Mother Mary. So when you look at Luke, it's Christmas from her perspective because she was there. Fascinating. This says in Luke 2, 1. In those days a decree came out of Caesar Augustus that everyone, everyone should be patronized. This was the first inscription when Quirino was governor of Syria. So Rome was the king of the whole world, known as Roman peace. The peace of Rome was because they conquered and crushed everyone. And it says, I need to know about my little sub-kingdoms. How many people are under me? So to do that you have to return to your country of origin. It's not a perfect Christmas. It's not a perfect Christmas. Tengo que viajar cuando debo dar a luz. You never know what difficulty you are going through now that you are preparing for something great later. You never know how imperfect things are for you now. But God is forming you in imperfection now because He has something planned for you in the future. And yes, it is hard, it is difficult.

Guess what? I already said, God is here. He is here to make you like Him. And if Jesus had to go through difficulties to be who He was, you and I will have to go through difficulties. And perhaps, unfortunately, part of it will be this Christmas. But if you have an eye on the prize, what is the real prize? It is to be like Jesus. It is not to have the family or the prototype Christmas.
