TAKEAWAY HIGHLIGHT

Biblical fasting can be an important way of seeking God in a deeper

relationship experience. Denying ourselves something during a fast that our

“flesh” craves strengthens us spiritually. It also trains us to say “no” to future

temptations because we have confidence through personal experience that

we can successfully resist the enemy.

Fasting is also one small, sacrificial way we can recognize the much larger

sacrifice Christ made for us. By humbly seeking God in increased prayer

time and studying the Word during fasting, we achieve a victory of the spirit

over the flesh; and, we get to know God in a deeper relationship experience.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Ask the Holy Spirit to help you decide how and when to fast. Perhaps

He will lead you to fast from food, but it could be something else your

flesh normally craves, or maybe a habit that is not honoring God.

Accompany this fast with prayer and the spending of more time studying

God’s Word.
