You Need a New OS | Crossroads Church
You have a default system setting that’s draining your battery: control. And when it’s time for an upgrade, most of us just keep hitting “Remind Me Later.” Control feels safe because it’s familiar. We plan, predict, manage, and try to guarantee the outcome. But eventually, control makes our lives smaller—and our relationships harder.
This week, Alli Patterson shows us why we’ve mistaken a controllable life for a faithful one, and what happens when we finally uninstall control and learn to trust God instead. Recorded live at Crossroads Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.
What's going on, y'all? So glad to see you here on Pando. My name is Meeko. I serve as the prison director with Crossroads Church. Last week, we kicked off our series, Well Played, the game plan for a lighter load. We started looking at the kind of leader Jesus really is, not harsh or demanding, but gentle and humble. This week, we're gonna talk about something that affects every one of us, control. Truth is, life often feels heavy because we're carrying things we were never meant to carry. We try to control outcomes, try to control other people, try to control our future or situations that are just simply outside of our hands. The more we grip those things, the more exhausted we become. Jesus offers a different invitation. He says, come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. The people, that's a promise worth paying attention to. Today, Ali Patterson is going to explore what it looks like to let go some of the weight that we're carrying and make room for the rest that Jesus offers. Let's check it out. Hey everyone, my name is Ali Patterson. I'm one of the teaching pastors here at Crossroads, and I'm also someone who tries to get her groceries in one trip from the car. Anyone else?
This is totally me. If you're not doing that, what are you actually doing with your life? I mean, come on. It's all about strategy. I stand in front of my trunk, I look at the bags that day, I make sure I have my purse before I start, and my goal is to get them all in, in one go, and usually it's like the trunk button that gets me, or the door handle getting in the house. Like I say, praise Jesus, because somebody put a door handle I can get with my elbow from the outside, so I can actually get through. This is how we go through life. This is actually the visual that came to me when I was thinking about this message, because we go through life loaded down with bag after bag after bag, and something hit me, like that I had really gone wrong here when my daughter was standing in front of the trunk of the car about a week ago, and she's like, I got this, don't even help me. I can get them in. And I'm like, I have passed this way of thinking down, you know, and this kind of approach to life is actually the people that Jesus is talking to in his great invitation that we're gonna look at together today.
Let me pray that he would show us a better way to live. Lord, would you be with us and reveal a new way of life to us today? In Jesus' name, amen. We want our life to go well. That's why we're doing this series. It's called Well Played, because we want a life that's well played, because why we want to win the game. We want a good outcome. I honestly don't know very many people that wouldn't say, you know what I want? I want the things that I'm doing and the people I love to turn out okay. I just want a decent outcome. That's what I'm looking for. And so we somehow pick up along the way that it's on us to be a part of how that happens. And so we take on bag after bag after bag, because we think it's about my good strategy. It's about anticipating the obstacles. It's about how strong I am, how good I am at carrying all the things that I need to carry. And the truth is one little thing goes wrong and the whole thing falls apart. I was literally doing this with my groceries the other day. And I almost laughed out loud because I'd already thought about this visual for the message today.
And I was holding the rotisserie chicken by the handle that they give you to hold it by. And it broke and fell on the floor. My cat was licking the chicken before I could drop all the groceries and pick it all up again, right? Like there are moments where we realize however strong we are, whatever strategy we've got going on, however many bags we've been able to carry, it really is on us and we're exhausted by it. And I think that's why these words of Jesus that we're looking at, I hope you hear these in your sleep. We're gonna say them a million times today because this invitation from Jesus, it sounds so good to us because this is the way we go about life. There's an amazing offer on the table for those of us who feel this way. Matthew 11, 28 to 30. One more time. Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Our burdens are not light. Not the way that we go through life. The big idea for today is this.
These words of Jesus are not an invitation to set down a bag. They are an invitation to a completely different way to live. Instead of being heavy laden, he's talking to those who labor and are heavy laden. I was looking at some of the words in the original language and I think that's why this grocery bag. visual came to my mind because the word fortizo the heavy laden word it actually means to load up and I thought where in my life do I load up and I'm like that's it I you know I load them up and this is this is the person the way of operating that Jesus is speaking to and he's offering a different mode of operating a different operating system now you've got a phone in your pocket a computer a gaming system something that you access on a regular basis that has an operating system I'm about to exhaust my knowledge of operating systems in the next two sentences an operating system is the software on the inside that runs all the pieces and parts together to produce an outcome you want your phone to do something you want to you press a button on a game and the operating system goes to work to do the thing that you just told it to do so when we ask the question how can I get that out of my life I want something this is the outcome I want our operating system is what goes to work how do I get it how do all the parts work together what thoughts do I have what processes do I go through what bags do I pick up this is the operating system and Jesus is inviting us to change our operating system you and I have a default os our our operating system default can be boiled down to one word and that word is control don't get mad at me we're all in this together control we want it because what we've learned along the way is the one who's got the control over the most bags gets the best outcome if we're holding the things that matter to the outcome we want then it's under our control and that's that's why we pick them all up that's why we try to hold on to people to things to details to plans because we believe that that is the way to produce the outcome that we want our default system is control I want my kids to be more successful than I am I want to be the CFO one day I want to have a great amazing group of friends these are good these are good things potentially in our life it's not the outcome that's the problem it's the way that our operating system
tells us to go get it it's the things the processes the stuff on the inside of our heart our mind and our life that are exhausting us because our default set of instructions tells us it's on you pick it all up carry it till you need it be the one in control and this way of doing life is loading us up it's exactly the load that Jesus is referring to when he says all who are heavy laden and the offer is to come to me a completely different way of doing life the funny thing is this operating system of control the one that we learn the one that you know it's kind of our default it's just the way that we make sense to do it it wasn't the original design it actually came about after God designed human beings and he designed us an entirely different way like os 1.0 I guess you would say was something else completely and if we boiled that one down to one word I would say that one is trust if you boiled down exactly how God designed human life to work it would all boil down to trust if you go back and read Genesis 1 through 3 where God makes the first human beings and all of the other things that are made you would pick up things like this and I would encourage you to go read those chapters and and test and see if what I'm saying is correct what you're going to read is a God that designed a human being directly on his own he breathed his own life into him he placed him in an environment where life could be sustained he chose food for him he gave work to him and that work oh by the way was supposed to be done in connection with him it was to represent him to rule over the creation that he had made everything about humanity was designed to be done in connection with the creator and not just connected to him but intimately involved in the life of God in the plans of God in the creation of God it was all supposed to be connected and so this original operating system was entirely based on a relationship of trust he didn't he didn't actually devise any strategies to help us carry things through life it was actually completely different than that he only had one strategy and that one strategy was a request that he made about a tree in the garden and this was very important to the entire strategy of how humans lived with God and lived this life they'd been designed for and he said hey there's this tree and I really don't want you to eat the fruit of that particular tree. And the tree's name was the knowledge of good and evil. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil, kind of a mouthful,
but essentially God was saying the one thing, the way that this works, the one thing that I can't have you do is I can't have you take control. I can't have you being the one that is the knowledgeable, the wise, the one with all the info. The thing is you can't hold that, that's for me. And so the way that it was supposed to work is God knows and we receive. And he asked them not to eat that fruit. And what do you think they did? They ate it with a big shove from a serpent who was in the garden, who said these words, but if you do eat it, you will be like God. That was the temptation. You will have the knowledge of God. You will have the power of God. You'll be able to make the decisions of God. You will know the will of God. You will have all the knowledge that God has and you will be able to chart the course. Only the problem is we aren't God and we were never designed to hold that kind of weight. We were never designed for that kind of life. And so when we took control, we took on a life that we can't handle. And the operating system changed. It was the moment that in our house I had, so I have four kids, my youngest, she just turned 15 yesterday, it was her birthday.
So I guess this was like 14 years or so ago whenever they get their first few words and start doing things on their own. And she said, every time I would try to help her with something she very obviously needed help with, she would look at me and push my hand away and she would go, by my own, by my own. And sometimes the kids will still say that as a laugh. They'll go, by my own, mom, by my own. You know, you don't have to teach a toddler to wanna do things by themselves. They will let you know, by my own. That's why I said our default one, the one that we now come hardwired with is by my own. It's I'll do it, I'll know, I'll decide, I'll be the wise one, I'll chart the course, I'll decide the next steps. This is our default system, but it wasn't the original. The original was an OS entirely based on trust and doing life inside this other operating system where we're the one that gets to carry everything and we're the one that gets to make all the decisions and we're the one that tries to know all the relevant info. It has some consequences for us. And one of those I've been thinking about is that it makes life really small. We're inside this sort of game scenario and I'm not a gamer, I admit it. I'm sorry if the metaphor falls apart for me at some point today, but I was just thinking,
it makes the game board smaller because we want to know what's the step ahead. So we build higher walls and we only step on the squares that come next or we only go to the level that we know the best. And so as we think about how it makes our life smaller, we leave things on the table all the time because we don't know. We're not sure how it's gonna go. We don't know the outcome. We can't understand the impact. We're not sure it's the best thing and we want to know the outcome. And I just think, man, how many times do we go through years as an adult and never try anything new? Why is that? Why are us grownups known the world over for never doing anything new anymore? It's because we default into this setup where we do what we can see ahead of us. And why do we do that? It's not because that's always even what we want. It's because that's what we think will produce the best outcomes. Well, I don't want to put that person at risk because I can see this outcome and I don't know the other one. It's from a heart to get a good outcome, but we shrink the game board of our life.
And then we counsel our kids sometimes to do the same. I had a friend who told her son, don't take that class because that's a really hard one. What if you don't get an A, it might ruin your GPA. Oh my goodness, that's shrinking the game board, right? Like we leave opportunities and skills and all kinds of even fun on the table because we can't see what's around the next corner and that's our operating system at work. I think we've made a mistake. We like to tell ourselves that we're living a faithful life. We're living a responsible life, a dependable life, but what we're really living is a controllable one. of mistaken control for faithfulness. And those two things are not the same. God is not asking us to live a predictable life where the next steps are clear and the outcomes are known, but control tells us you only know when you can, you know, you only go where you can know. You only go to the places where you know the outcome because we feel responsible for it. We're carrying the bag of the outcomes of so many things for our life and for the people we love and as a matter of fact, that's the other thing that starts to change a lot. When we carry the bags of outcomes for other people's lives, it starts to make those relationships really, really difficult. We love our people, right? Our friends, our sisters, our aging parents,
our children, whoever you feel a sense of love and responsibility for, we start to carry the bag called the outcome of their life. And the minute we do that is the minute that we guarantee that relationship is gonna get real difficult at some point because we have to start managing them. Now we're managing their life to get the outcome that we think is best for them. I see this all the time in parenting young adults. It's a hazy time, right? Like your role is changing in the life of your child in these years and so many times what you want is you wanna tightly manage the walk in front of them so that the outcome is good. That's this instinct from our operating system of control. My husband and I crack up, he'll say this to me sometimes. We had a friend of ours, his kids were a couple years older than ours and he was really frustrated with his son one day and he goes, if he would just do what I tell him to do, his life would go a lot better. Yeah, it probably would, right? So my husband will look at me when one of our kids ignores our extremely wise advice and he'll go, if he would just do what I tell him to do, his life was gonna go a lot better and I'm like, I know, right? You know, but what's, we laugh, but like what's underneath that?
It's the weight of the outcome. And that's the thing that God is not asking us to carry. He's not saying don't coach well, don't be wise, don't pass on wisdom, he's saying don't carry the bag of the outcome of their life or suddenly you're gonna be managing them instead of loving them. You're gonna be controlling them instead of coaching them. You're gonna be asking them to carry the weight of what you think is best and their emotions and their choices and everything about their life is going to come back on you and it's gonna make that relationship extremely difficult. It's too heavy a bag for you to carry and I know some of you are sitting here thinking, well, not my kid, but if my sister would just do what I tell her to do, her life would go better. If my, you know, if my friend would stop doing all those stupid things and just do what I tell them to do, you know, we get these little moments where our thoughts give us away. I was thinking about where does this pop up? Cause some of us are sitting here and you're thinking, yeah, all you controlling people, stop it. Really annoying the rest of us out here, you know? But some of us just do the opposite. We're no less controlled by this system. We just completely reject and rebel against it. We know we can't carry all that, who cares anymore? I'm just gonna be over here while you people do all this. And everything about our life becomes rejecting that.
It's still the same system running the show. And I started brainstorming with some people that I teach with and we were talking about, what are like the little red flags where control, you know, this operating system we have that's in us. Where can we see it at work that might not be totally obvious on the surface? We might be able to fool other people that really, that's what's going on below the surface. Here's a few that we brainstormed. You say, I don't care what we do. And then you reject every suggestion that anyone makes. Anybody have someone like that in their life, right? What about this one? You email the boss or the teacher, coach, whoever, a helpful suggestion. That's really exactly what you need to happen to make things easier for you. Nobody else knows that, come on now. Red flag, right? Okay, this one, I admit, had some personal experience with this one. I'm gonna deep breathe. Moms, if you have a teenage son and you are on a group chat when he's 16 years old and you are still arranging his sleepover plans with his friends, red flag, control operating system in full function. I'm just telling you, I could give like a mini sermon over here on this. If you want a man someday,
you're gonna need to stop doing that. Stop, okay? That could be a whole separate. Sermon, sorry. I'm not too popular on the mom group chats because I'm like, why don't we butt out and let the kids handle this? You know, and they're like, oh, oh, very nice. And they're like removed from the conversation, you know? Anyway, sorry, I told you, I could give a whole sermon on that. Next one. You give someone advice and get irritated when they don't take it. Or you say, God, I trust you, but if we were a fly on the wall for your prayers, it's really just a long list of ways that God should handle the thing that you asked him for. And this was my personal out, as you might be able to tell from my little rant. You see someone else with a control problem and you judge them for it. Ow, when my coworker brainstormed that one, I was like, oh, okay, I'm gonna put that one on the list because that one hurt a little bit, totally. Right before Jesus offers this amazing invitation to rest from a life where we always feel like the one carrying the bags, we always feel if we don't say it, if we don't show up, if we don't do it,
the outcome's not gonna be good. Jesus says there's two kinds of people. These are the verses right before this amazing invitation that he gives us to rest, to find soul level rest, the rest that we want. And he says there's two kinds of people and one of them is set up really well to receive it and the other, not so much. Here's what he says in Matthew 11, 25 and 26. At that time, Jesus declared, I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. There's two kinds of relationships, two kinds of ways to relate to God, to be the wise and understanding one or to be the little children. And I've gotta tell you, it makes me squirm because I like those words. I like wise and understanding one. That's what I wanna be about my life. And Jesus is saying something kind of radical here. He's saying something very opposite of what our instinct is. But think about Adam and Eve in the garden. What was the temptation? You will be like God. You will be the wise and understanding one. And Jesus is saying the benefits of the kingdom,
the power of the kingdom, the life of the kingdom is for the little children. It's not because they're uneducated or immature. That's not the insinuation here. What he's saying is that they understand a life of dependence. That's what kids understand. They understand that they're to receive things, that they are not strong enough, that they are not wise enough, that they are not mature enough to be able to run their own life. That's what Jesus is essentially getting at here. He's saying, you got a choice. You can be the wise and understanding one and go your own way by my own, or you can be a little child and receive the life of the kingdom, receive the rest of God. That's right back to the original design in the garden. It's actually incredible. And it has all kinds of hallmarks of Jesus' come to me, come to me. But the wise and understanding, I gotta tell you, that is rough for me because I like those words. I remember when I was in seminary, I would look through the course catalog and I had to start slow because I had four little kids.
So it wasn't on like a full student schedule. So I'd only take a couple of classes at a time and it would pain me because I'd look through the course catalog and I would go, I want all these classes, every single one of them. I wanna know all the things. And it sort of pained me to leave classes on the table because I wanted so badly to know. I wanted so badly to learn. And I got to the point a couple of years in as I was moving slowly through my degree at the time. And I hit this point with God where I finally said to Him, I'm never gonna know, am I? Not all of it. Never. I so want to. And I feel like the best thing that happened to me in seminary was just the overwhelming amount of incredible, amazing potential knowledge and wisdom of God. And I just went, I can't hold this all. And it was such a bummer to me at the time because I entered going like, I wanna know. That's why I'm here. And instead, God just hit me with a tidal wave of you're never going to know all the things that I know. Exactly. That's exactly right.
It may be the best thing that happened. to me in seminary because it forced me into a choice. Am I going to live like I can? Like I can be the wise one, I can be the understanding one. You certainly are around people like that and teachers like that and leaders like that who want to be the wise and understanding one. That was the temptation of Eve or a little child who understands there's something I have to receive and I cannot know the fullness of my life. So the invitation Jesus is making us to reinstall the original, come to me, walk with me, take on my yoke, the one that you were designed for, the one where I give you what will sustain you. I give you your food, I give you your work, I give you the right relationships, I give you your life. I walk with you through that. See, Jesus doesn't say, I'm gonna give you a map and I'm gonna meet you at the end. This is an invitation to a life where he walks every step and no, you might not see it. No, you might not know the outcome, but he will be with you. So what happens if we choose to install this original system again, this system of trust where we actually come to him? I think it's worth splitting some hairs because control sounds so right to us. We are so used to that operating system, giving us instructions and being that inner voice
in our head, we're so used to it that it actually feels correct. And so I was thinking about what does control say? What does trust say? There's some hairs I think that are helpful to split here. Control says, what can I do to make sure this all works? What can I do to make sure this works out? And trust says, what is mine to do? To me, this is the fundamental difference. Control carries the weight of the outcome. And trust says, what's actually mine to do? What is a faithful engagement with what is going on? What is mine to do? Control says, I try to anticipate every problem. This is my grocery strategy, right? Like I know I've got to hit that trunk button. I know my purse has to come out of the front seat. It's no good if you make it all the way into the kitchen, your purse is in the car, what are you doing? You know, you gotta go all at once. And so I gotta get the purse, gotta open the door, gotta make it around the corner so I can't have things sticking out. You know, there's all kinds of strategy involved and control tries to anticipate everything before it happens. And trust says, I can actually wait to respond to the problems that actually arise. Both recognize you're gonna have some obstacles. Trust doesn't lay in bed at night
like I did a few nights ago, thinking about something that may or may not happen six months from now. All kinds of other ways. You know, the last one that I thought about when I was making these, you know, what's control say, what's trust say is really a difference in peace because in the control system that is our default, peace is when all the what if scenarios are taken care of. We've either gotten through them all or we've adequately planned for them, but control focuses on what if. And trust says, even if. Peace in the middle of a trusting relationship with God is even if, not a denial of problems, not a like this life is gonna be great because I'm with Jesus. You know, I mean, that's not a bad way to think, but trust says, even if that thing happens, even if that outcome doesn't come about, even if I can't fix that situation, even if that person makes choices I would never make, even if that happens, I know who God is. There's this mindset in the trust system that control like has its eyes closed to that literally cannot see. There's a biblical concept underneath the trust operating system called sovereignty. Sovereignty of God.
The Bible talks about it all the way from the beginning to the end that God is the one above it all, answering to no one else, holding all the cards, ultimately whose plans go down, the one with all the power, all the authority, all the rights to the plans and the processes that are going down, the sovereignty of God. And the trust operating system puts that first. It puts that at the top. It puts God at the top and says, I know who he is. I know what power he has. So even if these bags all fall apart, I know exactly who God still is. Trust runs on the sovereignty. of God, so this is the soul level kind of rest that's available to us. This concept is all throughout scripture. The first time I encountered it, it really changed me because this scenario was so odd to me. It stopped me cold when I was reading this in the book of Isaiah near chapter 30, God starts speaking to the nation of Israel because they've encountered a series of problems. You know, they're holding bags, they're having trouble, their strategy's not working because their strategy is to continually run to Egypt over and over again. Egypt was the power at the time. They were warm to Israel at the time
and so they were able to have treaties or get weapons or borrow food or retreat there when they couldn't live in their land anymore. There was all kinds of things that they kept running to Egypt for over and over and over again and God sends a message through the prophet Isaiah and he basically describes this really stark situation where they're running and running and running and running and they end up on a mountaintop alone and he said, if you keep doing what you're doing, that is where you're going. If you keep insisting on running and running to Egypt, you will find yourself all alone and isn't that how you feel sometimes? When you're holding all the bags, aren't you feeling like, who else is doing something? Are any of you people even trying to help me at all? And that's kind of what God is insinuating that when we choose this way, that's ultimately the end and here's what he says instead. I come back to these words all the time. He says, in returning and rest, you shall be saved. In quietness and in trust shall be your strength. The one thing our operating system never tells us to do is stand still, trust God. And I'm a worker, so I'm game, like God knows I'm not a hard get. You tell me to go, I'm gonna go, you know? So this is not about no action, this is about a posture of receiving the steps,
of receiving the action, of receiving the provision for that from God. He's asking for trust in him and Israel was struggling with the exact same thing you and I struggle with. God, can I trust you when I can't control you? Because the one thing you can't do is control him. You can give it a shot with lots of other things, lots of other people, lots of other situations and we do all the time, but the one thing we instinctively know is we cannot control God. And so we struggle with that because our system tells us you gotta be able to know or it's not right. You gotta be able, the trust is entirely based on whether you can see the end here and God doesn't tend to reveal that. He tends to ask you to do what Jesus is offering, come to me, walk with me, learn from me. Trust rests in the fact that somebody else is driving. I had this crazy situation. I've never had this happen before this or after it and this was probably four or five years ago. We were driving up to Michigan and we go way up north so it takes a while. My husband was driving, I was in the passenger seat next to him and my rule, by the way, side note, if I pay for the car, I get to sit in the front seat.
So I have four kids and they're always like, can I sit in the front? Nope, did you pay for the car? Okay, then get in the back. So that's just a little tip for you. Once you start that, it's over for you. You're gonna be in the back seat, I'm just telling you. Stand firm. Okay, so I'm in the front seat as I should be and my husband was driving the car and I got a little sleepy and every time I would close my eyes, I would panic and I would open them again and every time I would nod off, then I was like, huh, it was this shot of anxiety that as soon as I closed my eyes, something bad was gonna happen. Has that ever happened to anyone before? Okay, so this is a normal thing. I've never had that happen before or since but I remember that drive like it was yesterday because every time I tried to rest, even though we're barreling in upstate Michigan where the speed limit's 75 up there, just saying, right, 82 miles an hour and I'm not driving and yet I could not allow myself to rest. It was almost as though every time I tried to rest, I would jolt back open like I could do something if he decided to drive off the road
or if somebody hit their brakes in front of us. I wasn't in control. I just couldn't rest because I guess I didn't trust. I tried to explain this to my husband and he was like, I'm mildly offended. Like, what the heck? Like, I know, I know you were driving. Maybe you're a good driver. I feel like that's what God is saying. Like, I got this. You don't have to keep jerking your eyes back open. It's okay. You know, and this memory came back to me because how silly is it that the car is moving that fast with another driver behind the wheel. And I somehow think that if I just open my eyes and watch and I just hold the anxiety of where we're going in my hands, that it'll change something. No, it won't. It actually won't. But you couldn't have convinced me to rest on that car ride because everything in me was saying, open your eyes, be responsible for this. Something bad could happen if you're not. And I know how crazy that sounds. I have no idea why that happens. Sometimes I feel like God plants those things just so I'll remember them seven or eight years later and talk about it.
Who knows? But we're invited to a different life. Here's the words again. Matthew 11, 28 to 30. You're invited to let him drive. Jesus says, come to me. All who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give. I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. He is saying, not just you can set down the bags. He's saying, I wanna change the inside where it all came from, where that instinct to pick them up to begin with comes from. You can make an exchange and you can actually do that today. I don't know if you have ever actually said to Jesus, I want that from you. I want that kind of life of trust with you. The Bible says it comes from our center. We've been talking about operating systems. Well, the Bible calls our operating system, our heart. We tend to think of it as our emotional center, but the Bible calls the heart something way closer to an operating system where everything comes together to drive forward into our decisions in our life and our thoughts and our processes, the heart. And guess who made a promise that one day
a new heart would be possible? God spoke that generations before Jesus came through the prophet Ezekiel, who said there would be a day where God says, I will give you a new heart and I will put a new spirit in you. And Jesus is saying right now, here today, there's a new heart available, a new center, a new operating system, a new way of life. And if you've never received that, you can actually do that right now. You can leave behind this default thing that comes hardwired in us and you can reinstall the original. If you have never done that, I'm just gonna say a prayer with you and over you. And I would encourage you to just say these words right now, Lord, Jesus, I'm coming to you for a new heart. I wanna leave my old ways behind me and operate in a connected relationship of trust with you. Walk with me, Jesus, from this point forward, amen. And sometimes even when we have that heart, we need a reboot. You know, something's making it run slow or we've picked up a few bags that aren't ours to carry. So I just wanna give you a minute here to, and thinking about what is it? What have you been dragging along with you? The person who just will not make the decisions that you want. The situation you've spent a decade trying to impact.
The outcome that you're holding that you think, I don't think this is gonna work quite the way I want it to. Could be something that goes down tomorrow. It could be a lifetime thing. But all I know is you're not designed to carry that. So I just invite you for a moment to sit with Jesus and set it down and tell him, no, I wanna operate in trust for you instead. I don't care what the world says. I put my hope in Jesus. There's nowhere else I'd find my God. I don't care what the world says. I put my hope in Jesus. There's nowhere else I'd find my confidence. I won't run from the breaking. Like potter's hands you shape me into exactly who you've made me. Oh, I don't care what the world says I put my hope in Jesus There's nowhere else I'd find my confidence I won't run from the breaking Like potter's hands you shape me You'll be exactly what you made me to be There's nowhere else I'd find my confidence I won't run from the breaking Like potter's hands you shape me You'll be exactly what you made me to be There's nowhere else I'd find my confidence I won't run from the breaking Like potter's hands you shape me You'll be exactly what you made me to be There's nowhere else I'd find my confidence I won't run from the breaking Like potter's hands you shape me You'll be exactly what you made me to be There's nowhere else I'd find my confidence I won't run from the breaking Like potter's hands you shape me You'll be exactly what you made me to be There's nowhere else I'd find my confidence I won't run from the breaking
