What's good, Houston, Texas 78? Can we give Jesus a big praise this morning? I think he deserves a greater praise than that. Come on now. Today we continue our series greater, but today we're moving to having faith in Jesus, to moving to faith like Jesus. Y'all know there's a difference, right? We have faith in Jesus, but ultimately we must have faith like Jesus. And if you're new with us today, we want you to know that you're an honored guest. You're not just a guest, you're an answered prayer. And at Union Houston exists to connect people to God with the gospel of Jesus. And it says that regardless of your past, your struggles and your doubts, he loves you right where you are. He loves you too much to leave you where you are. And this, this includes every person that is watching right now through the Pando app union. Can we welcome our union prison campus? Hear that? They can't see you, but you're never out of their hearts. And we can't wait for the day that you walk in through those doors. So far in this greater series, we we've talked about becoming greater, right? And we've hit hard on some things that we need to start doing and adopting and getting rid of to, to become greater. But today I want to talk to you about the greater that's in you, that the greater that's already, that you already have within today, we're going to go deeper. We're going to take a step in a different direction and we're going to tap in to what's within greater is not just around you. Greater is not just for you. Greater is within you. And that changes everything. And how you live view and live out your faith. You know, most people are living as if God is somewhere far off, hoping he comes in, in the nick of time, when things get hard, that's how most people do their faith. In fact, I would say, this is probably the main reason why people have a hard time finding faith in Jesus, because too many of us are living, proclaiming Jesus on Sunday, but Monday through Saturday, proclaiming a false gospel, one that isn't within you, but is in and of the world. We're going to look at the apostle John's very words. And today he's going to encourage us to wake up. And I think I need to say this because it's important. I don't share my notes or what God is putting on my heart till late Saturday night. In fact, my administrative assistant, poor Jenna has to do your Bible notes on you version late Saturday night, most times, because God's not done speaking to me sometimes, although I have the message of our, he reveals certain things to me. And I think you need to know that so that in this house, there is a very divine spiritual alignment that's happening. And

I want you to grab ahold of that. Yahweh is the name of God. Yahweh who created the universe and everything in it. Yahweh who came down to humanity. We've talked about this and became flesh, conquered death, sin, grave, and defeated the enemy. Satan now lives inside of you. So let's talk about who's actually within, not from my opinions, but from the very word of God. Would you stand with me and open up to first John chapter four, verses one through six, dear friends, John says, Do not believe every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they are from God because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the spirit of God. Watch his words. Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in human form he became flesh is from God but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. I want to pause there and give you some context as to why John is saying this specifically. In that church at that time there was something called Gnostics. Gnostics have come to believe in Jesus but they wanted to mix their Gnosticism into Christianity and Gnostics believed that everything that was material was wicked therefore Jesus couldn't have been fully human he must have been fully God acting like he was human and that is not what scripture says. There is a relevance here that happens to us today in this world. We want to make Jesus something he isn't. He goes on to say this is the spirit of the antichrist which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world and while some Christians are waiting for the antichrist to arrive back 2,000 years ago John had already said he's already gone on the one in fact he's in the world. You dear children are from God and have overcome and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak the viewpoints of the world and the world listens to them however he says we are from God and whoever knows is intimate gets to know God walks with God is allowed to be shaped by God listens to us but whoever's not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. Let's pray. Father God we thank you that your word is infallible, inerrant, eternal, everlasting. Every word scripture says that has been written has to be said has already been written has to be said no word must be taken out or added in. Jesus we lift high your name because we are here only because of you. Holy Spirit I'm gonna need you. I'm gonna need you to be the teacher in this room to be the edifier and the equipper in this room the one that convicts hearts and brings people home. Help me deliver this but at the same time Lord let the softened hearts receive the seat of

the gospel, the ears to hear the spiritual truth and eyes to speak see spiritual truth and let it not confuse my passion for being mean or angry but nothing more than a passion for people to know who you are. Holy Spirit move in this room. This is your setting, this is your classroom, this is your sanctuary and I pray this in Jesus mighty name and the church said amen. You may be seated. Greater we've been talking about greater but greater right now we see that greater is he who is in me than he who is in the world. Greater is he who is in me. How many of you have ever said that? Greater is he who is in me than the one that is in the world but what if more of the world is in me than the greater one who died for me. and is in me. That is possible, right? How many of you have ever seen a show called Catfish? Right? How many of you have ever scrolled into your Instagram or your Facebook and you see someone's profile pic and you're like, that's not what they look like. They trying to catfish people man. You know, what kind of app is that? I could use that app. Get rid of some wrinkles and some gray hairs. Right? That's not what they, as a matter of fact, last night we were watching TV and there's a Subway commercial and make, they make this sandwich look like, my God. And I was like, she says that's not what they look like. And I said, catfish. We're being catfish. In 2012, there was a college football star by the name of Van Tytale. And he captured the nation's heart with a tragic story about the death of his girlfriend. Lenay. There's one catch though. Lenay didn't exist. She was a spiritual, she was a digital mask of someone else. A man pretending to be a woman that today is quote unquote, a trans woman. The crazy part isn't what the person did to him. The crazy part is Manti had doubts like he had doubts. If you watch the documentary about a story, he had some doubts about wait, wait, could this be true? He saw the red flags, something within him.

Y'all have this, right? Is this real? He doubted and yet he stayed in this relationship for months. Why? He wanted it to be true. He was so desperate for connection that he traded reality with a facade. And then when faced with the reality of this catfished situation, he kept the lie going. Why? He didn't want to look like a fool. He didn't want to be the one to say I was wrong. Before we laugh at Manti Tale, don't we do the same thing? We don't want to look like fools. We don't want to be wrong. So we double down. And we cling to comfort, to comfortable lies. We cling to false identities, fill in the blank, whatever your identity that you've chosen. If you put anything before Christian or child of God, that's your identity. It ain't child of God. It's what you said first. We cling on to worldly promises, right? I call these counterfeit gospels. Why do we do that? Why does humans do that? Can I tell you why? Because we don't want to be fools. We don't want to be wrong and if they feel better, they make us feel better than the raw and demanding, the sometimes demanding truth of God. That's the truth. Yet John here is instructing us to test the spirits. Now I wonder why John was telling us to test the spirit. I came to encourage us today. I came to encourage our church. I came to encourage you that are watching. I came to encourage you to stop falling for the world's catfish. And start testing what you believe against the truth. The life and the character of Jesus. After all, he did say, I am the way, the truth and the life. Therefore, we must go to Jesus and see how it aligns with what we believe.

And the western church has many false prophets. Preachers, teachers, pastors. They have gone out into the world. That's what those scriptures says, right? And they preach a message that is popular. But not a gospel that is powerful. This is the problem. Why? They want to be popular. They want to be liked. Some of them want your vote. Some of them want your faith. Following some of them want to watch what you watch our YouTube stream because they get paid every time you watch Now why do we have to test it because they are of the world and the world Wants to hear what it knows What it's familiar with So we amen sometimes and because amen is agreeing Amen, we were listening to the song on the way to church. It's so be it. And so you read an article you read a Post or you read something online or you read a book and you're like, that's right So be it you're saying amen to a gospel that isn't necessarily the gospel of Jesus They haven't been supernaturally transformed by God But what's this? They have been supernaturally transformed by Satan The master of deception He is the father of lies Scripture Simply said if we are from and belong to God, right if we're from God and we belong to God We recognize what his truth is and we listen However Those who don't know God don't want God and reject God They twist God's words. They change God's words. That's how you can tell The spirit of truth from the spirit of deception the actual word he uses is error Now before we get into the meat of this I want to tell you that the gospel of Jesus Does not affirm our condition?

Because you feel a certain way that is worldly And I you need to know this truth And I you need to know this truth Humanity is broken Why is it broken God created us with free will That means that God is not a micromanager Okay He is not a master of the puppets Are you with me? He is not directing people to do certain things that will violate his word He gave us free will why because the word says that he created us in his likeness and his image and he has free will He gave us what's called agency to decide right from wrong Romans 2 15 says that God has written his word on human hearts Here's the truth. You may have never heard Every human heart has the word of God, which is why sometimes as little kids they know That's not that's not how does a little kid know that's not right Because he was created by God through the word the word created him and the word is in his heart So what happens to that heart it begins to get dulled it begins to get deafened It begins to get smothered by the world In fact in the beginning we all had this free agency to operate like God and his image free will But what happened to us we got catfished by the devil We you know what we got catfished into we got catfished into trying to be like God instead of living with God This is how sin entered the world And who catfished us the one that's in the world Satan So here's the gospel says we need a Savior from that You can't save yourself. You can't go save the whales and expect to get in through the pearly gates Okay, you can't be all about social justice and expect to enter into the kingdom of God and hear well done good and faithful servant If you're visiting today you need to know that we all need to be saved from our sin And maybe maybe that's harsh for you, but listen you are sinful You know how I know that Because I was sinful as a matter of fact I still sin, but I have a relationship with the Lord

So when it happens I get convicted I repent I apologize I make a mistake I get convicted I repent I apologize I make it right I pay restitution You feel me not out of religion, but because I don't want to let my father down And here's what the gospel says it doesn't matter what you've done. it doesn't matter what your past is. it doesn't matter the gravity of your sin. if you surrender to the savior jesus christ of nazareth you shall be saved. if you believe in his name scripture says you shall be saved. this is the gospel. now the deception of this world tries to convince us that you're not broken. those are religious preachers. this is the problem with evangelicalism. the truth is healing only begins when we admit that we are. can i tell you this? the first thing that started the to to move the direction of becoming of coming out of suicidal addictions into being a child of god was i sat in an AA meeting and i got up and i admitted i was powerless to the drugs and alcohol. i was powerless that it had become my god. this is a preeminent truth is the following your brokenness was never meant to shame you it was meant to leave you to the beloved. it's not meant to shame you it's meant to take you to the beloved but you gotta test what is within me and and and you gotta have discernment because discernment is a weapon. john opens with a command that should wake every believer up. i'm gonna read from the amplified beloved do not believe every spirit speaking through a self-proclaimed prophet. instead test the spirits to see whether they are from god because many false prophets and teachers have got out into the world. this is fascinating because not every voice that sounds anointed is anointed by god. some voices have been anointed but they've been anointed by satanas. are you with me? not every spiritual movement is the holy spirit. there's more than one spirit that operates in the world. not every spirit is god. this is how we get all twisted up. god the holy spirit is supernatural. he's supernatural. he's beyond this world. so is satan. he is a supernatural deity that is an adversary to yahweh. we think that he's a boogeyman around the corner. they mimic. they imitate. they even speak to you but never in truth. test the truth you are being told. test. don't believe every voice. test it against the living word. the word test here is the greek dokimatsu.

it means to examine, to test for authenticity, to prove something is genuine. this is in the ancient world this is what was called when you took gold to a goldsmith and he would heat it up and test the metal to make sure this was actually gold or a counterfeit and john is saying hey you need to test it. don't open yourself up to everything that sounds godly knocking on your heart. test it. test it. what are you letting in? what are you intaking? what voices have you allowed to take up space within your mind? it's fascinating to me because i watch sometimes some of these prophets proffling on on youtube and and they always that it never fails one of my peoples You know are probably you know prophetically gifted and they're spiritual and all this stuff They hear something. They're like, oh man, I just saw this teaching and they were talking about, you know Tormenting thoughts and now all of a sudden I have tormenting thoughts So you think you have a demon right yeah, then you shouldn't have been listening to that prophet Are You with me Could it be that the enemy has planted a seed through that day do that dang prophet? To you and all of a sudden a problem you didn't have before is all of a sudden a problem now But because and now here's the thing is to know you got to know about deliverance because if you've never suffered that if you this Isn't a repetitive cyclical thing in your life Someone planted it there recently I'm giving you I'm giving you strategies. I'm giving you biblical Strategy to to navigate your faith greater is he who is in me? Is it Is it What you let in Will shape will shape what comes out of you Before you can walk in the greater power within you you gotta guard the gates of your heart You gotta guard it it's up to you you have free will Because many false prophets have gone out into the world. They are not always in pulpits

I'm gonna move away from the from the church. They are not always in pulpits They are on platforms preaching politics Right Saying ridiculous things like James Tallarico that God is non-binary Come on man, come on You know, the crazy part is I can identify. Oh, this guy's a wolf Just trying to get votes Right What's crazy to me is all the people amening them in this in the sanctuary, I'm like, oh my god, this is crazy Look sometimes the false prophets are in your playlist Sometimes they're on your timelines You know, there's a little button that I found that is amazing. You don't have to unfriend them You just do hit unfollow. You'll never see their post again As a matter of fact I have that on some people and the only time I hear for them is when they comment on my post because they disagree With me or something or another Bro, I don't bother you. You only jump it. You never say oh your granddaughter looks beautiful. You only jump in when you disagree Sometimes they're in relationships the voices that you've let in that our Relationship the lies, how about this one the lies you tell yourselves at 2 a.m Remember Spirits are supernatural powers. Here's the truth. It's supernatural Satan demons witches Yes, they are supernatural. You may drive by a little witch storm be like, oh, that's Hubba. Jubba It's kooky stuff. No, it's real. I'm here to tell you it is real Test What is the test You want to know what the test is? It's three words It's three words it is written This is exactly what Jesus said to the Satan when he came to tempt them and he was weakened in the flesh fully human

And he said it is Written every single time the devil came to him to try to tell him a lie so that he can twist God's plan for our salvation. Jesus said it is written. I wonder if you do the same Many people will say oh, I love this one. Some of y'all are gonna get hurt and That's okay But I love you too much for you to continue doing this God told me God told me God told me I was gonna marry a man six-pack and six figures Driving a six-cylinder Did he or was that your hormones Y'all want you Y'all want church or not? Now, now I usually I'm gonna prepare you because if you're one of them people, you feel like, oh man, I've done that before. I'm gonna say, okay, he maybe have. I'm I'm not saying god don't say to you something but I'm the first thing out of my mouth when you tell me god told me, I'm gonna say, perfect. Let's look at the Bible verse in passage that he told you this year. Sometimes, we lie to ourselves because of pride. Because we don't wanna be fools and we don't wanna be wrong. Yeah. And can I tell you? I'm here to tell you. The reason I'm hitting hard on this is because this is extremely dangerous for your soul. God speaks. He does. He will speak to you but he will always speak kingdom over personal preferences. I think you heard this from me. He will speak over your desires and wants. In fact, if you spend more time with him and you listen to what he's telling you, he will change the desires of

your heart. We talked about this. Know who is in you. You gotta know who is in you. Here's how you test exactly what is in you. I don't want to share some method or some devised plan or some lesson I learned in Bible college. I I don't I I you know, I wanna come straight from the word of God because in verse two and three, he says, this is how you recognize the spirit of God. And and I'm gonna ask you to brace yourselves because there's some hard truths that we need to grasp and keep here and here always. Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come into the has come in the flesh from God, right? Is of God. But every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. Is the spirit of the Antichrist which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. The spirit of God will always exalt Jesus. The Holy Spirit is here to exalt Jesus in your life. He is here to exalt Jesus in your thoughts. He is here to exalt Jesus above your temptations. He is here to exalt Jesus over your greed. He is here to exalt Jesus over your marriage. He is here to exalt Jesus over your wants, your desires, your needs. He is here to exalt Jesus and Jesus alone. He's does not point to anything that isn't Jesus. So, let's see what this look like. Do you want to be great? Serve. You want to be first? Be a slave. Those who exalt themselves, the word of God says, shall be humble. Are we doing deeds to be seen, recognized, or seen as an expert? You know what Jesus calls those people? Hypocrites. You whitewashed tombs. You look good on the outside but are dead and full of dead bones on the inside. We come to church and we act like we got it all together and I can smell the death inside of you.

That's not me. That is God speaking to us. The son of man came to serve not to be served. He washed feet and then commanded his disciples the following word. Do as I have done. Now, you've heard me say this. Every time the lord, I'm like, lord, should I do this? You know what Jesus says to me? Deny yourself, pick up your cross, and follow me. But when you're bombarded with other gospels, secular books, about self-care, right? We put on candles and we put on weird Asian music in the background, right? Self-care. I think that we call self-care laziness. Y'all just want to sit around and eat Cheetos with your favorite weighted blanket. We read books about boundaries. You gotta create You know how many times I can tell someone is on the way out the door when they start talking to me about pastor I've created boundaries. The Lord told me to create boundaries And I'm not saying there shouldn't be boundaries Because God does want you to put boundaries between you and toxic people but not between God and God's people See there's a difference Twisting do you boo? Do you Get it. Yeah, girl I'm here to tell you not every gospel is the gospel of Jesus John specifically says it denies that Jesus is God If it denies Jesus is God. What spirit is it? Antichrist Who denies Jesus Is God Jews Muslims who is getting hot in here Mormons Jehovah's Witnesses Do not add do not take away

Galatians Paul says even if an angel even if an angel comes preaching a different gospel It is not of God You got to know the word but you can't just intellectually know the word I have it written on the tablets of my heart. You need to have it written on the tablets of your heart progressive Christians The kingdom Is not progressive It is expensive and there's a difference You cannot just take in information without testing it with the Spirit of the Living God Because he is the Spirit of truth The moment you said yes to Jesus the Spirit of the Living God moved in it took dwelling place in your soul You became the temple of the Holy Spirit. He isn't visiting. He's moved in permanently I think you've heard this one before it's habitation not a visitation Let me read to you what Paul says do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit who is in you Whom you have received from God you are not your own This is why Proverbs 4 23 says that you must guard your heart above all else he didn't say Guard your heart against some Against most against men. He said above all else Jesus says the following for out of the heart evil thoughts Murder adultery sexual immorality theft false testimony slander the Holy Spirit Speaks with the authority of Scripture You got to read your word You got to study the word and you got to test everything

And here's the kicker. I want you to test even what I teach you If you come here and you're gonna allow me to just pour into your life without testing it Then I become your idol don't do that Jesus is your key. He is the Lord of this harvest. It's not me. It's him The same spirit that hovered over the waters at creations according to Genesis chapter 1 verse 2 the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead Romans 8 11 the same spirit that empowered the disciples on the day of Pentecost acts chapter 2 the Spirit this spirit that spirit not from the outside looking in but he is within looking out Many false Prophets have gone out into the world many Not some now this was 2,000 years ago I'm gonna put some weight to this We got iPhones Tablets Internet that we can download aliens Right, we got more storage in our phone than you know, NASA had in 1981 Is it ridiculous? Okay, so the access to the prophets, the false prophets is unending, it's unlimited. False prophets don't always look dangerous, y'all. No, they don't always look demonic. Sometimes they pretend to cast out demons when they're actually putting demons in you. Some of them claim to do deliverance, but it's nothing more than luciferium trickery. Some of them, false prophets are destructive. You know what? Sometimes they're very charismatic. You know what Satan was? Very charismatic. You know, sometimes they're highly influential, like they walk into the room and they absorb the room and when he speaks, oh my God, he has a new revelation. Newsflash, there isn't a new revelation.

Do you know what Satan's main gifting was? What he was anointed with? Influence. And here we are, what do you want to do when you grow up? I want to become an influencer. Sometimes they're intelligent. Sometimes they're, can I tell you, many of these people are more intelligent than me, more intelligent than theologians, but that doesn't make them that they come from God. They're platformed, they're popular, they're applauded by crowds and accepted by culture. That any time someone is accepted by culture, I'm like, that's a little weird. Now, if you're accepted, if you have influence to walk into culture, but you're telling people, hey, like here's the truth of God, God bless them, right? But when you go around, right, pretending to be something appeasing the brokenness of people, you're a wolf. False gospel does one thing, one thing. We learned this today. It's not about the gospel. It removes the need for Jesus. You know what else it does? When you remove the need for Jesus, it softens sin. It avoids repentance and it reshapes the truth to fit the culture you live in. The real gospel of Jesus declares that God is fully God, that Jesus is fully God, that he was fully human, human being. He was a man. It declares that he was crucified for our sins and died to defeat death, sin, and grave, the enemy, risen on the third day, reigning today, and he's living within. That's what the gospel says. And a gospel that removes the cross may be comforting to you, but it cannot save your soul. It might be accepted by the culture, but it cannot save a soul. So you've got to be able to recognize the enemy. You got to see him coming because John doesn't dance around. He says, test the spirit because it is the spirit of antichrist and is already in the world. It's the spirit that work in our culture, in the school systems, in the media, in the governments, and in the atmosphere. And it directly opposes Jesus Christ. It directly will oppose the gospel of Jesus. It doesn't always look demonic. Sometimes there's a distraction. Sometimes it's division. Sometimes it's just discouragement. And his favorite one to use is doubt, whispering, gee, you're too broken to be saved. God can't use you. It's too late for you. You're on your own. You're self-made. There are many, many, many, many, many false prophets, teachers. And some of them are obviously Christian witches, warlocks. You know how you can identify people? Sometimes they're not witches or warlocks. Sometimes they're just religious. They're legalistic. Don't do this. Don't do that. Don't go there. The devil will get you. My favorite one, don't eat that.

El cuckoo, stay away from X, Y, Z. I ask you, what do you think the scripture to those are? Because Paul spoke extensively on these subjects. That's the beautiful thing. He spoke extensively on everything I mentioned. He spoke extensively on false teachers, legalism, religion, and he also said not everything is a demon. Even if you come face to face with a demon, I want to ask you something. Did you not know that you're a child of the most high God? That you are a co-heir with Christ? So you can walk into a coven, and them witches will be like, get them out of here. Because if you're scared of the boogeyman, you might've let a lion. Because John chapter eight says, for who the son sets free is free indeed. That's it, you're free. None of your undoing, none of your don't do this, don't do that, stay away from this. Listen, some of you are trying to cast out something that you have to crucify. Some of you want to cast out what you should be crucifying. And if you shrink at every dark alley, at every dark corner, at every shadow, it probably isn't the demons or the devil. It is a false gospel you believed and that produces fear. Because it's based on lies, wake up. We got to walk into minion.

We have given, it says, I have made the devil a footstool, baby. My man's wearing snake skin boots today. You know, whenever you see me wearing my snake skin boots, you know what I say? I'm walking around in the devil's skin. I've gutted him and I made me some boots out of him. I walk on his butt. You know what the enemy doesn't want you to know? That he's already defeated. That the one that defeated him lives within you. So now you can say, now we got to this point. Now you can say, he who is in me is greater than he who is in the world. Now you can walk out a declaration that says, greater is within me. Did you not notice that John says to your children, not warriors, not theologians, not experts. He says children, he says small, he says be dependent, but carrying something greater because the size of your faith in God will determine what is within you, Jesus or the world. The word greater here is Maison. Maison is superior in power, rank, magnitude, not slightly, not bigger, not slightly bigger, not almost bigger, not almost, it's greater. Decisively, definitively, absolutely and eternally bigger. And John declares something that you should write on your soul. You have overcome them.

So sometimes when you're being attacked, you got to remind him, hey, I have overcome you already. You have to slay down before me because you're not fighting for victory, you're fighting from victory. The greater within you is the spirit of truth. And that's the only truth you can trust. The greater within you is the truth you can trust. If the truth is in you, of course, what does greater within us look like? When fear arises, greater is within. The Lord your God is with you wherever you go, Joshua 1.9. When your body is under attack, Greater is within you. By his stripes, you were healed. Isaiah 53.5. When temptation is loud, remember, greater is within you. For no temptation has overtaken you except what is coming to mankind. 1 Corinthians 10.13. When condemnation speaks, greater is within you. For there is no more condemnation for those who are in Christ. Romans 8.1. When the world says you have been defeated, greater is within you. For you are more than a conqueror through him who loved you. Romans 8.37. And I can bust you up. I can bust up the devil all afternoon long. I shall run, not get weary. I shall mount up, unlike an eagle, so I can soar. When I'm entering the land of giants, he says, be strong and courageous, for I am with you.

The world has been trying to shape you from the outside in. Through pressure, through comparison, fear, pain, your past. But God has placed a spirit within you to transform you from the inside out. This is the miracle of a new birth, a new creation. God no longer visits his people, he lives in his people. Stop letting the outside silence, deafen, and dull out what's within you. Stop shrinking before battles that have already been lost to the enemy. Stop negotiating with the enemy at the gate when you carry the king of kings on the inside. You are not an empty vessel.
