The Lord put something on my heart from last week, and it's, you know, they were talking about pain, but one thing that I realized throughout that message is that pain also can lead you to your purpose, and pain can also position you. And sometimes if you're going through the pain, it's about what's on the opposite side of what you're going to get through that. So, you know, embrace it, you know? Yeah. Amen. And one thing that was put on my heart was that joy without pain is like flowers without rain. Wow. So there's a purpose for all pain. Yeah. That's so good. And as the summer is starting to come around, I don't know about you guys, but I definitely do love to go to the park. And I just want to take a moment to just, you know, like ask you guys, if you guys were to go inside of a park and you were to be on a nice stroll, if there was to be a random stranger to come up to you and would go and tell you things like that, you're not worthy or that you're not good enough or that other people don't like you, I don't know about you, but me personally, I'm going to turn around and be like, excuse me? And I don't know why, but a lot of times, like we have those things inside of our heads that we like, we can't go in and be able to fight them for some reason. But you know what? I do know somebody that who would be able to get you.

the words to be able to fight every one of those things and his name is Jesus and he tells us that we're chosen he tells us that we're his masterpiece and he tells us that we are we were not made on purpose you guys so let's go ahead and move everything around let's go ahead and go and make a nice space that way like that we can open up our hearts and be ready for worship and if anybody's feeling struggling with any sort of mental issues this month i want to be able to go ahead and pray for you and your families as we enter this worship. How many people know that God is with you this morning? It's a big deal. It's a big deal for God to be with you. When Jesus was prophesied about in the Old Testament,

the name that they gave him was Emmanuel, which means God with us. It's one of his greatest promises, that we'll never leave you, we'll never forsake you, we'll never abandon your side. Last week, or a week and a half ago, I can't remember exactly, but my wife and I had the opportunity to officiate a wedding ceremony for members of our church. It was in Italy. It was pretty cool. It was pretty beautiful that when I got back, people were like, man, did you enjoy Italy? I was like, yeah, it was cool. It was really fun. And then this past week, I was doing my taxes with Liz. And it was really fun. So what made it fun? What I was doing really wasn't it. It was who I was doing it with. See, what made the enjoyable thing, Italy would have not been great if I was alone. What makes the enjoyable thing enjoyable is who you're with. And what makes the terrible thing endurable is also who you're with. So if you walked in this morning on the top of the mountain, praise the Lord, enjoy it because God is with you. But if you came in this morning going through a fire, you can endure it because God is with you. It's always who you're with. That makes it what it is.

And you're with God this morning. You're with the Father. He's, you're not alone. You're, you're not alone. You haven't been abandoned. He's promised to never leave you. Come on, let's sing it. We're so glad that you're here. But before we get into the message, I just wanna highlight a couple of things that are happening in our church and give you an opportunity to get involved. Everything we do here at Journey is to glorify God, to make Jesus accessible, but we also wanna bless your life. And so I'm really excited to let you know that today is the first Sunday where our small group directory is open for signups. Today is the first day. So actual groups don't begin until June 7th, but we have way more people that attend our church than we have people leading groups right now,

which is just a big note for those who feel like maybe led to lead a group. And so I say that because groups fill up fast. And so today, no matter what campus you're watching this from, make sure you get on the Journey Church app and connect and look for groups. They're gonna be meeting all over. Central Florida area, and they are in a variety of fun stuff and biblical stuff, and you're just gonna have a good time. Get around people. I can't stress this enough. I believe we are encouraged in rows. So when you come to church today, you are encouraged. You can even have an encounter. You can meet the Lord. He can do something in your life. But I really do believe transformation takes place in circles. I think you really have to get around people, and getting around the right people. Getting around the wrong people is what messes us up, but getting around the right people is what can get us on the right track. I just wanna encourage you to get around the right people. And what I love about our summer small groups is that they're only six weeks long. So most groups in the fall and the winter are 10 weeks, some 12 weeks, but six weeks. And that's just like, it's like small group light.

You know what I'm saying? It's like, I like people, but it's like, that's your semester. Jump in on the summer, get it light, and hopefully you'll get addicted to people. And you'll wanna become a part, and join again in the fall and the winter. All right, you guys ready to get into the Word today? Yeah! Awesome. Well, I'm looking forward to preaching it. If you're joining us today for the first time, I have been kind of in a little mini sermon series going through, I opened up two weeks ago saying I was preaching somebody else's sermon. And I'm going through the greatest sermon of all time ever preached, and that is Jesus's Sermon on the Mount. Jesus preaches a message beginning to end in the book of Matthew chapter five through seven. And two Sundays ago, we were talking about Matthew chapter five, where Jesus's message, really, he's trying to, in his introduction, shift our focus. We see that Jesus is trying to reset humanity's fixation on the outside, and he's trying to instead, ready, fix us on the inside. He wants to get our attention on our heart. Someone say heart. Yeah, he wants to get our attention on our heart,

because what's wrong with humanity, listen, it's not just what we do with our hands, it's what's in our hearts. Before we murder someone with our hands, we have anger in our heart. Before we have an affair with our hips, we have lust in our heart. And the beautiful thing about Jesus, and the radical thing about Jesus, and what makes Jesus so amazing, and the solution to our broken world, listen, is that Jesus has not come to modify our behavior, he came to transform our heart. When he gets in us, he gets in us, and transforms us from the inside out. He knows that you can do good things for bad reasons. And so he's trying to go past all of the outside stuff, and he's saying, listen, if we can just get your heart right your life will follow. And I think if Jesus had one message, that would be the message that he would preach, let's get your heart right. So in Matthew chapter five, Jesus talks about the condition of the heart. But today we're gonna shift our focus into Matthew chapter six, the middle part, the body of Jesus' sermon. And in Matthew chapter six, Jesus is not focused on the condition of the heart, listen to me, Jesus is now looking

at the location of the heart. Matthew chapter six, verse 21, this is the heart of this chapter, Jesus says, for where, someone say where, your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The location of your heart seems like a silly question, but I wonder, have you ever been somewhere, and while you are somewhere, you are also somewhere else. Come on, this is why I struggle playing fantasy football, and the staff guys, they keep trying to get me, the church staff guys, they keep trying to get me to play fantasy football, and so I'm like, listen, I'm a worst pastor when I'm playing fantasy football, because what happens is the games take place on Sunday, and I really need to be here, but if you ever play, raise your hand if you ever played fantasy football, but you didn't know who I'm talking to today, okay. So what happens is these players, they get on the injury report, and many of them are game time decisions, which means that in between services, I'm over here on my phone, looking at who I need to sub out and put in, and I don't think that's where my heart should be. Shh, I don't think in between services, so they make me do it, but I lose every year, and I'm okay, as long as I'm winning every year. I gotta be careful, this is where my heart is. I don't know if.

If you've ever been on date night, and while you're on date night, listen, you have the anxiety of a deadline. You're with the person you love, but your heart is still in the office. If you're single, you know what I'm talking about. I don't know if you've ever been sleeping in bed and working at the office at the same time. Come on, somebody. You are there, and while you're there, I have this notepad next to my bed, and it's where I jot down all the stuff that comes into my mind while I'm in bed. I think I gotta get rid of the notepad, because I'm realizing now what I'm doing, babe. I have brought the office into the bedroom, and it's crazy, because your feet can be up on the bed, but your mind is still running. You are somewhere, but your heart is also somewhere else. I don't know if you've ever been hanging out with a friend, and you can't enjoy it, because the whole time you're with that friend, you're complaining about another friend. Your feet can be in one place, ready, and your feelings in another. But this is not inherently bad. This is just the principle, and it can actually work both ways. There are some weeks as a pastor that are pretty tough, and no matter how dark it gets,

there are always two days a week that I gotta put my heart in that really help me get through the tough weeks. Those days are family day and date night. Thursdays are our last office day here at Journey Church, and Thursdays is when I have a lot of my meetings. And sometimes I'll be sitting down with somebody who's going through something really dark and really heavy, or I get bad news, or a staff member's going through something really bad, and my heart can be heavy. And what gets me through those days on Thursday is knowing that Friday, which is my family day, which is my off day, Friday is coming. And even though my feet can be in sadness, my heart is thinking about playing video games with my boys, and how I can still smoke them. And I've got the joy of Friday while I'm standing in the sadness of Thursday. Are you with me? It can work both ways. Sundays, no matter how bad I preach, and how when I walk away sometimes, I feel like I missed it and I didn't help anybody. You know what keeps me going? Date night. Because I know that even though Sunday was frustrating, date night, it's going to be fun. Thank you, Jesus, for date night. If I were to give a ministry longevity class,

I would say date night. If you're single, I got no advice. I don't know how to do it. Jesus, something about Jesus, I'm sure. But date night is, man, it's what gets me through. So here's the question, church, and here's the title of my message today. Listen, I know that you're in church today. But here's the question, here's the title of my sermon. But where is your heart? I know you're here. But where is your heart? Now, biologically, the answer is it's in my chest. But Jesus' question in chapter six is not in regards to the location of your organ. When Jesus asks you, where is your heart, what he's asking you is, where is your peace? Where is your security? Where is your joy? Where do you find fulfillment? Where do you go for love? Hear me, where is your heart? Where does it go? I know this may be a bit too theoretical for some people, so I'm gonna try and make it a little more practical for you. When I say where your heart is, it's important, listen, because where your heart is, your joy is. Where your heart is, your joy is. And so I'm gonna try and make this practical for you.

So I had the team get me a heart, okay? This is a heart. Now, you gotta be careful, okay, where you put your heart. We went back and forth on like the heart-shaped heart and then this one, and then our team thought that Halloween was better and that it was gonna be bloody. We were thinking about putting some liquid in it, but anyway, so, just kidding. So where's your heart, where's your heart? And you gotta be careful what it's in, because if it's in the wrong place and your joy is in the wrong, you could be really sad. And so this is the second time I've preached with my Jets jersey here. If you don't know, I'm a New York Jets fan, and yeah, whoop, whoop. And it's not easy being a Jets fan, we're not good. We're not good, and I gotta be careful because they also play on Sunday. And I have discovered, it's the wildest thing, that a thousand people could give their lives to Jesus on Sunday, and I could be pumped. Then I'd go home and watch the game. and we get blown out and I'm depressed now if you're not a sports fan you probably think that's stupid where my sports fans at where my magic fans at it was hard this year boy it's hard this year boy and and and um and now I'm sad and I need you to catch this I'm not sad because there's something bad in my heart I'm sad because my heart is in a bad place and a lot of times we'll go to therapy and we'll sit across them again I love therapy I go to a counselor I got an appointment next month okay like I do this such thing is important but a lot

of times you go to therapists so they can help identify what's in our heart and get it out but it's not sometimes it's not that there's sadness in your heart it's that your heart is in a bad place how many people have ever been sad for no reason raise your hand you've been sad for no reason can I help you there's always a reason and if you want to find the reason find your heart find your heart it could be because your heart is in money and your money's not doing so good and that's why you said it could be because your heart isn't a man and you ain't got a man so you're sad could be because your heart is in children and you don't have no children and now you're sad you never have to wonder why you're sad go look for your heart wherever your heart is that's where your treasure is that's where your sadness is and that's where your joy is wherever your heart is that's where your direction and your drive is your direction and your drive my boys are saving up money for national fine arts and so if you don't know what that is we have an amazing ministry here if you have a teenager you've got to get them involved in our fine arts ministry here at Journey Church it's where they share their gifts and their talents they even play sports but a lot of them do art and drama and Mike Zane's playing the piano and justice is a part of a human video and he's also preaching and and he's doing that and but the but the competitions in Missouri and so listen I always feel like we have to have them put some skin in the game so we're gonna pay for the flights to send them but we told them they have to come up with half of the hotel and so they have to come up with you know $150 is what they have to come up with if they want to go and I have never seen these boys so motivated one of them is selling every video game that he doesn't use on Facebook marketplace and he's about to make hundreds of dollars just selling the other day on Friday on our off day they both came up to me they said dad your car looks a little dirty I said yeah they said do you want us to wash it I said that would be awesome they say cool how much so they washed it for free and and and they were they were so why why were they so motivated why were they so driven ready because they had set their heart on something and what

they set their heart on their time their energy their body it all followed what they set their heart on I told you guys I got a car well the car that I got to replace all cars is used Tesla and and I gotta be honest it's not a political statement okay just I need to get out there but I like the car and I like the car because it has this feature where you put in where you want to go and then you hit go and then you sit there with your hands across and it takes you there so I have a driver now and it just drives me and I think it's the coolest thing because it's just like your heart works when you take your heart whatever you set your heart on it will take you wherever you set your heart this is why you have to be careful because what you love will lead you what you desire will drive you and what you are passionate about will pull you be careful have you ever heard the phrase follow your heart that is great advice it's just incomplete advice because before you follow it you should ask the question but where is it but where is it do you know how many people have followed their hearts into bankruptcy because they set their heart on a house they could not afford Germany people have followed their heart into a divorce because they set their heart on a woman who was not their wife do you know how many people have followed their heart into a heart attack because they set their heart working 50 hours a week set their heart on a certain position at work or how many people are stuck in life ready not going anywhere this is the flip side because they never set their heart on anything what you set your heart on is what you go after jesus is asking where is your heart listen because where your heart is your joy is where your heart is your direction and drive is and listen last one and where your heart is your hope is your hope is now when I say hope I really need to I feel like I need to define hope because you think you need a lot of things in life right now you think you need money you think you need a partner you think you need a home you think you need a car and hope is like way down on the bottom of the list but you don't know how important hope is so let me just really define the word hope because I think this is going to here's the definition of hope hope is a future reality someone say reality so bright that the darkness disappears from the present one this is the power of hope hope is a future reality I say reality it's real so bright

that the darkness disappears from the present one to give you the power of hope again and the weakness of hope again I'm gonna come back to the jet shows as a sports fan you might not know this I'm a Jets fan every year the team goes through a draft and on all of the major news stations and ESPN they said that the draft is where you get new talent and new players from the college ranks and apparently the Jets had one of the best drafts of the of the football league and everybody's saying oh this year's gonna be great they got good talent this year's gonna go but I'm about to be 40 this year and I've seen these drafts before I know what they're trying to do they're trying to get my hopes up and I rebuke it I will not allow them to get my hopes up because disappointment is the gap between expectation and reality and I'm not going for that expectation I know that but I will use another football analogy there was time my hope was high and it was during a Jets game and I had come home to watch it because I have to record all the games I'd come home to watch it and we were down it was the fourth quarter we were down 31 to 16 in the fourth quarter we had according to statistics we had a 2.5 percent chance of winning 2.5 chance of winning and as dark as that game got I had hope and the reason why I had hope is because going into the fourth quarter I already knew the ending I knew the ending because I have a bad friend who knows that I can't watch these games while I'm preaching and I record them so that when I go home I can watch them so please don't ever ruin the ending for me if you see me in the lobby and and so he texted me wow what a comeback so I didn't know what he needed I looked at the text wow what a comeback so now I'm like well I know the ending but now I'm like but now I want to watch so I'm in the fourth quarter everybody's freaking out all the statistics about us losing I'm just like I cannot wait to see how this thing turns around that was hope because I was believing that something I had not seen yet was guaranteed to happen now you might say well that's different pastor JJ you you had that kind of hope because you knew it had already happened no I didn't I did not see the game what gave me hope in the game was that I trusted the text so my question is when it gets dark when it gets scary when you're not sure when it looks like you down 43 to 18 and you got a 2.5 chance of winning will you trust the text that says that you win no matter what that when the clock hits zero you're gonna have a w in your family in your marriage with your children with your finances in your ministry at your job you gotta trust the text

just the text shouldn't kick my heart that way that's a bad heart you gotta trust the text well it didn't happen yet yeah but I trust who wrote it Trust who told me that it would happen You know, what's really bad advice? Here's really bad advice. Don't lose. Hope Don't lose. Hope is bad advice Anybody ever tell you this Don't lose. Hope don't lose. Hope don't lose. Hope and I just want to tell the person who's telling me that I know they have Well intentions, I would just say easy for you to say Easy for you to say don't lose. Hope when you're the one who has kids. I'm still waiting for mine Easy for you to say don't lose. Hope you're not the one who just got diagnosed with cancer Is it for you to say don't lose. Hope you're not the one who's unemployed not knowing when I'm gonna be able to pay the bills next month I am But you know what better advice is here's the better advice where is your hope Put it on screen where is your hope I need them to see it because I need to get in your soul Where is your hope? That's good advice Because if it's in a secure place You won't lose it Don't lose. Hope at where it is. Yeah Because if I'm worried it might be in the wrong place Are you with me? So, where is your heart? That's the question we're gonna answer today. The good news is It's a multiple-choice question It's multiple-choice because how many people like multiple-choice questions I Used to hate the fill-in-the-blanks Every time my teacher would give me a fill-in-the-blank. This is a trap. It could be a million things Fill-in-the-blank was a trap love multiple-choice. I got a 25% chance Getting this thing right and the less options the better And so here's the good news. Not only is it multiple-choice question. There are only two answers So you got a 50% chance of getting this question, right?

That's the good news the bad news is you're not gonna like Jesus's answers Because there are only two answers to the question Where is your heart as we're going to find in the book of Matthew chapter 6 and in the answers of this? Listen, where is your heart a heaven be earth You only get two choices Your heart is either in heaven Or your heart is here on earth This is the whole summary of Matthew 6 Jesus is trying to get you to choose a or B Matthew chapter 6 verse 1 Jesus says be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others down here on earth To be seen by them down here on earth because if you do you will have no reward from your father who is where? He's in heaven But when you give to the needy do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that you're giving maybe in secret So that even though no one sees it here on earth your father who is in heaven He'll see it and he will reward you there in heaven Look at the next one And when you pray don't be like the hypocrites for they love to pray standing in the synagogues on the street corners to be seen Truly I tell you they have received their reward in full here on earth people clapping for them people cheering them They already got it verse 6 But when you pray going to your room close the door and nobody else will see it But your father who is in heaven he'll see it And then he will see what is done in secret and he will reward you in heaven Here's the next one verse 16 and when you fast don't look somber as the hypocrites do for they disfigure their faces to show that They are fasting truly. I tell you they have received their reward in full here on earth Oh so spiritual all so holy what a great and righteous and good person verse 17 18 when you fast put oil on your head

Wash your face smile look like you're doing good so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting So that only your father who is unseen will see what is unseen and your father who sees what is done in secret Will reward you in heaven Jesus is giving us a tracker To help us become aware Self-identify the location of our heart and he's really asking us two questions. Here's the first one Are you living to please people or are you living to please God? If you live in a place people then that means your hearts on earth if you live in a peace God That means your heart is in heaven Are you living to be famous on earth? Are you living to be famous in heaven? Are you striving on earth to get a good job from your dad or Are you striving on earth to get a well-done from your father in heaven? Before you post are you asking? How is this gonna make me look or are you asking? How is this gonna make God look? Remember that we get joy from where our heart is So if they like it, they'll clap and they'll celebrate you and that's awesome. It feels good to be liked It feels good to be celebrated. It feels good to be praised Amen, that's not the problem. Here's the problem, ready? If they don't like it. Because that's where your heart is. So if they don't like it, then the encouragement that built you up turns into the criticism that destroys you. Because your heart is in people. You gotta be careful that your heart isn't with people because remember that where our heart is is where we get direction, it's what drives us. And maybe you become a doctor, but the only reason you became a doctor was because your dad wanted you to.

And now you're miserable and you hate your job, why? Because you were driven by the pleasure of people, the approval of people. We gotta be careful that we're not driven by people that we don't have direction from people or else, ready, our values and our morals will be determined not by what's right and wrong, but why it's popular and trending. When I look at Nazi Germany, when I look at the lynching and the segregation taking place in the South here in the United States, when I look at the riots that take place in LA or NYC, you know why those things happen? Because hate, division, lust became popular. And we went with the crowd. This isn't a slide, but you could probably do good to write this down. Popularity and morality are rarely aligned. Rarely aligned. What is right is not always what is popular. In fact, quite the opposite. What is right is often unpopular. So you gotta be careful. But when you live to please God, oh, you find so much joy in pleasing God. Can I just encourage you, anybody wanna have joy, raise your hand if you wanna have joy. I know it's a silly question, I just need to see your hand. For those of you that didn't raise your hand,

you're so tired, you don't have joy. Can you raise your hand? You don't wanna participate, I get it. You're not having fun. But you know how you can have joy, ready? Stop living for people and start living for God. You know why you'll have joy? And this is a good one, and this is a slide. Because it's easier to please God than it is people. Did you know that? Way easier to please God than it is people. Preaching sermons that you like is hard. I gotta have illustrations. I gotta have cool titles. I gotta be funny, I gotta make things rhyme. Preaching sermons you like is hard. Preaching sermons God likes, oh my gosh, it's so easy. All I gotta do is preach the Bible. Glorify Jesus and get out the way. Pleasing people's heart. Being a millionaire is hard. Getting people to like you that way. Listen, you know what's easier? Being a tither. I can't control what I can make, but I can give 10%. So I might not win the pleasure of people, but I can win the pleasure of God. You might not always be the MVP of your team. That's hard to do, but you know what you can do that would bring pleasure to God?

You can treat everyone like they're a VIP. That'll get the pleasure of the Lord. We can't always spend time with everybody. Some of y'all got 20, 30, 40, 50 friends. I don't know how you do it. I don't know how you make time for 50 people. But you can always make time for God. See that? It's easier to please God than it is to please people. Don't let people drive your life, or else you're gonna end up somewhere you don't wanna be. Look at what John 12, 43 says when Jesus summarized the people who were rejecting him. This is what he said. For they loved the praise of man more than the praise of God. You got, how about this? Did you know, we all know that we praise God. But did you know that God praises us? That's it, put the verse on, because somebody was about to just call me out and say I was going, I'm a liar. Put the verse back on, I need to see it. That's what we just read. The praise of God exists. God claps for you. Any Olympics fans in the house? Olympics, like the Olympics? Eight of us.

Nine. I'm not a big Olympics fan, but the one event I always watch is the figure skating. I always watch the figure skating. I just love it, man. I don't know what it is about it. I can't do it, but I love it. And then they'd be like, you know the spins and all that? I used to watch it growing up, and I was watching it this year, and I saw something as an older person that I'd never seen when I was younger, and that was that it's a big ice rink, and there's people clapping, and they throw roses at the end, but I would know that they would always save the finale for the end. The triple, quadruple, axel, backflip, somersault, whatever it was, they would circle all around the ring, and then every competitor from every country would make their way to the middle of the ring on this side, and then they would do their big thing right there, right, same spot. Every competitor, and then the camera panned for a little bit, and I saw why. it's because right where they ended their routine right where they did their biggest finale that's where the judges were so they were skating and everybody was clapping but they knew who was scoring I hope you catch it listen to me people can applaud but God gives the reward and and I wanted to use this analogy because I don't think it's bad if people clap for you I clap for you

you came to church today praise God because a lot of people did it but you did you may got a priority in your life you're sitting here you're receiving the word you want to grow I'm clapping for you it's awesome getting the applause of people is not that you just have to know who keeps score and you just have to make sure you do it for the right person because sometimes they'll clap and sometimes they won't clap but if you know who the judge is and how to get on the judges score table and how to get the judges favor in the Bible in the Bible there was a story of a man named Stephen and Stephen is getting killed he's getting stoned because he's standing up for Jesus and he's preaching Jesus and and I want you to see this verse right here but Stephen follow the Holy Spirit looked up to heaven this is at the end of his trial he's on trial for preaching and it says he looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God standing what was he doing standing at the right hand of God look he said I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God look at the next verse and at this they covered their ears yelling at him at the top of their voices they all rushed him dragged him out of the city and began to stone him stone him I just did it Jesus was standing do you know why this is crazy because the Bible says that when he ascended in the earth when ascended from the earth to heaven the Bible says that he was seated at the right hand of God and every time you see Jesus in the Bible he is seated at the right hand of God as a form of authority as a form of it is done it is finished but in this story he is standing not seated because he saw Stephen and while the world was stoning him Jesus got to his feet and gave Stephen a standing ovation he said way to go son though the world may stone you though the world may hate you though people may come against you well done my good and faithful servant I don't care if they clap I don't care if they hate you I don't care if they don't love you I love you I'm watching I got your back do it for me do it for me do it for me do it for me do it for me do it for me you can have a seat do it for me though the world may stone you Christ dance kiss you praise here's the second question I'm gonna go real quick listen

so are you living for the reward down here or are you living for the reward up there are you living for the reward down here or you live for up there Jesus was saying in Matthew 6 he was saying if they clap for you you already got your reward is that the reward you want what do you want the reward I got can I tell you something about God's reward if you're taking notes it's gonna be funny God's reward is better listen because God's reward is more better now I know that's bad English my word processor fought me on that my apple pages was like nacho this ain't English this is bad English but it's good preaching I knew what I wanted to say what I wanted to say was that God doesn't just give us better gifts he gives us better gifts in more areas of our life than the world could ever give us see if you excel at work if you excel at work you get a paycheck but when you excel in Christ the reward is way beyond a paycheck and it doesn't just it isn't just limited to your finances my wife and I are so blessed so blessed and we how many days a week do we look at each other and we go what is our life I mean we gotta said that this week maybe three times this week we said to each other in different time what is our life and I need you to know yes we have a house yes we have two cars yes we have two kids but we were saying that when we were living in a in a ghetto apartment in Gainesville with with a roach infestation a shower with the water wouldn't drain you took a bath every day whether you wanted to or not making so little money I fought you on the on the salary because I didn't know that when I was a youth pastor I was making $27,000 a year that's my salary $27,000 a year and this was a stay-at-home mom just one salary listen to me and we never went without Never missed a meal, never missed a house payment, apartment payment, never, never, never didn't have gas in our car. We didn't have health insurance, but that was the Lord. The Lord had us. He, the Lord was our health insurance.

We never, we never, and we, and we had so much, we were the poorest, happiest people you knew, because we knew we were in the will of God. And when you're in the will of God, you have everything that you need. This is why God tells us in Matthew 6, 19, he keeps going, don't store up for yourself treasures on earth, where moss and vermin destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moss and vermin do not destroy, when thieves do not break in and steal. We were never worried about our reward down here, because we knew we had a reward up there. And God took care of those things as well. This is my last thing. Listen, one of the best ways to reveal what you're living for is to recognize what you're worried about. That's a hard one. I know that hurts, because I know right now you're thinking, dang, what that means. Yup, that's what that means. And that's why I'm preaching. That's why God has brought this word into your heart today, because your heart's in the wrong place. Look at verse 25 and 27, therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or about your body or what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes?

Now listen, he didn't say that those things aren't important. He said that life is more than those things. So God is not saying that it doesn't matter if you don't have food to eat or that you can't pay your rent. What he's saying is that life is more than food and rent. You can have food and rent, instead of taking your life out of a depression. He's saying it's more than that. And so what he's really saying is, I got you, bro. I'm gonna take care of those things. Don't worry about those things, because I want to give you the things that those things can't buy. What God really wants to give you, listen, are the things that you can't find on Amazon and the things that you can't get in a Walmart delivery order for. Things like peace and joy and hope and direction and drive, but he will give you those other things too. So here's what God says, listen, worry about having your heart in heaven. And let God worry about having your treasure. You just get to worry about the right thing. Is my heart in heaven? I want to get that in the right place, because if I get that in the right place, I know God will take care of the rest. Next verse, so do not worry, saying, what shall we eat?

Or what shall we drink? Or what shall we wear? Look at next verse, for the pagans run after all these things. And your heavenly father knows that you need them. God knows that you need them. I got those things, look at verse 33. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness. What you see in the parentheses is my Adam. Adam, yeah, it's me, I add that. Have your heart in heaven. Guys, that's what he's saying when he says, seek first the kingdom, he's saying, have your heart in heaven. And all of those other things will be given to you as well. So why don't more Christians experience it? Easy, ready? Because they're still holding on to their heart. Because they're still holding on to their heart. Because it's not in heaven yet. And so while it's on earth, they're only gonna be experiencing it. If your heart is worried about the things on earth, it's gonna be worried. But if it's secure in heaven, it's gonna be secure. My wife and I dated for a couple of months, or six months before we, not dated, we talked for six months before we dated. And there was a long process of just being friends, even though we kind of both were attracted to each other.

We just, we had both been hurt in prior relationships. And so I didn't wanna give her my heart and she didn't wanna give me her heart. And then finally we were like, all right, I feel like this is it. And when I gave her my heart, she was able to deposit things in my heart that were missing. She was able to deposit, not missing, but an abundance of. She was able to give me more faith and more hope and more joy. And I had those things in Christ already, but she was able to deposit more and more and more in my heart. That's great. But she couldn't deposit it until I gave it. But I didn't give it, ready, until I trusted it. Can I get to the heart issue of this sermon? Here's the heart issue of this sermon. Ready? The reason why your heart is not in heaven is because we don't trust God. Very good. Enough to live in heaven. And it feels safer to hold on to everything we have here on earth. But it feels safer. It's not safer. It's not safer.

Can I give you terrible news that it's a fact that you all knew before you got here? We're all gonna die. And yet we will still put our faith in something that we know is temporary. How does that work? How does that work? We all know we're gonna die, and yet we will still try and build something we know is fading. Imagine giving your life, ready, building a sandcastle. That you knew no matter how well you built it was going to be washed away by this by the tide It only feels safer it's not Here's what really is safe. Here's what really is secure Building your home in heaven Whoa, how do you know there is a heaven? How do you even know there's something on the side? I'm glad you asked the question Because the question exposes the real issue Do you trust? That's the issue And if you can trust the Lord and trust His Word You can make the move Every head nod every eye closed today if you're in this room and Something I said today gave you the revelation that you are living for today and not for Heaven That's a good thing because now you can make change So I want to encourage you today To make that change if your heart is here on earth if your worry is here on earth

If you're stressed out about tomorrow Would you with me today in your own words? You could say it. However, you want to say it Well, you just pray some form of this prayer God, I give you my heart. I Trust you that everything you said in the word is for me that everything you said in the Bible is for me my financial needs I put it in your hands my relational needs. I put them in your hand my mental emotional physical Needs I put in your hand God. I don't want to live for people any longer. They disappoint me too often I don't want to live for a treasure down here. It's gonna wash away with the tide God I move to heaven today in my mind and in my heart. I want to live for the day for that day I want to live for that reward. I want to live for that peace. So no matter what today brings I know that my tomorrow is secure. Wow So I used to struggle a lot with sadness unexplained sadness and it was always due to external circumstances so when he talked about If you're feeling sadness in your heart, you need to check where your heart is that that really hit deep Yeah, I think that's so good Yeah I was actually gonna say um my life changed when I started to focus on pleasing God rather than pleasing people I used to be a people pleaser and if you can you know can relate to that you could write in the chat as well But one when I realized that I had to just please God my whole life changed and everything else had to just follow so I really just really Seek this kingdom and now I could just see the fruit of that.
