When God Feels Silent, Don't Let Go

The woman in 2 Kings 4 never gets a name. Scripture just calls her the Shunammite, which only tells you where she was from. No name. No résumé. Nothing that would make anybody remember her.

You know something about that. In here you get a number. People on the outside reduce you to a charge, a case file, a release date. God knew her by more than her hometown, and He knows you by more than your number.

Look at what she did. She built a room for God before He ever did one thing for her. She wasn't buying a favor or paying anything back. She gave while she was still waiting on the thing she wanted most.

She carried grief quietly for years. No children, in a culture where that carried shame, and she never made it anyone else's burden. When the prophet asked what she needed, she said she was fine. Some of you know that answer. You say it on the phone to your mother. You write it in letters home so nobody loses sleep.

Then the worst happened. The son God finally gave her died in her arms. She laid him down, walked out, and said it was well.

She didn't go home. She went to God.

That's not blind optimism. That's not pretending it doesn't hurt. That's faith anchored in who God is instead of what's happening around you.

Your circumstances don't get a vote on God's character. The door still locks tonight. He's still good. He still sees you. He still knows your name.
