WHAT TIME IS IT ON GOD’S CLOCK? THE LAST OF THE LAST DAYS - Tim Dilena
We live in a time when pressure, fear, public opinion, and even our own uncertainty can make us hesitate to speak, act, or live with conviction. But the early church faced the same tension. Peter and the disciples were surrounded by opposition, yet they refused to be silent about Jesus. What gave them that courage was not personality, education, or confidence in themselves. They were filled with the Holy Spirit. In this message, we are challenged to recognize the spiritual moment we are living in, listen again to what God is saying, and ask Him for fresh power to face fear, difficult people, overwhelming circumstances, and whatever stands in front of us. The same Holy Spirit who strengthened the early church is still at work today, giving ordinary people courage to follow Jesus, live their faith, and speak His name without fear.
nations that we're not allowed to mention because it would be dangerous for them. They're in some of the 10 most persecuted nations of the world and when they tune in we won't mention their names and so it's very important to us. But I want to speak to those nations I want to speak especially to universities and to us here in New York City. In AD 33 a sermon was preached the church was birthed and an Old Testament scripture was referenced as 120 people in an upper room had a powerful and life-changing experience with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The emotions of those that watched and the bystanders that looked on was mixed. Some were perplexed, some were amazed, and some mocked. And to this mixed crowd Peter stood up and said these words. Peter had to tell them what time it was on God's eternal clock. Listen to these words. For these men are not drunk as you suppose for it is only the third hour of the day that this was spoken through the prophet Joel hundreds of years earlier and it shall be in the last days. Say that with me last days shall be the last days God says I will pour forth my spirit on all mankind. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy Lord let it be so. Your young men shall see visions. I want to believe that for our college and high school in junior high and for two one two I want to believe it for you that are watching. Your old men if you're an old man raise your hand just raise your okay. Father for those that raise their hand and for those that didn't raise their hands let them dream dreams. Even on my bond slaves both men and women I will in those days pour forth my spirit and they shall prophesy and I will grant wonders in the sky above signs on the earth below blood fire and vapor of smoke the sun shall be turned into darkness the moon into blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come and it shall be listened to the crescendo of this and it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. It's very clear the Apostle Peter said this the last days the last days was Acts chapter 2 that's what he says if that's the case then what days are we living in I'll tell you it's the last of the last days if that was the last days and this is the last of the last days people need to know what time it is on God's
clock and really what I can tell you that what time it is on God's clock it's the last of the last days this is what we live in and I'm telling you this folks days will get evil and because of that men will call upon the name of the Lord everywhere and folks we are seeing people get saved but here's the second thing powers will try to eradicate the name above every other name the only name by which salvation comes I am let me be clear keep that on the screen powers will try to eradicate and remove from society schools campuses in the government the only name by which salvation comes and it's the name of Jesus make no qualms and I'm telling you the only thing that can stand up to fight hell's threats and intimidation are people that are filled with the Holy Spirit are people filled with the Holy Spirit more than ever we need a fresh baptism of God's Spirit again we need to learn how to tell time again that these are the last of the last days and that we need a baptism of God's Spirit Father would you come now in these next few moments I'm asking you God to do something very powerful in this place my heart has been full my heart is is is been so overwhelmed with you I've been asking you to baptize me afresh in the Holy Spirit I'm asking you God to do something powerful in this room today do something open the heavens and come down rent the heavens as Isaiah says and come down we're in the middle Lord God of people trying to block that name which is above every other name but I thank you you're gonna raise up a spirit filled remnant in these last days there is a remnant that are not ashamed of the baptism of the Holy Spirit that are willing to stand and God with a new touch and a new baptism father I pray you do something very powerful today in Jesus name and everybody said Amen God bless you may be seated thank you thank you so much everybody you may be seated a few weeks ago Cindy and I took a train from New York City to Massachusetts to see our daughter play volleyball against one of the universities there we were going just before the volleyball match we were going there to get a bite to eat before the game where the university was located, I was astounded. I said, "Sindy, look, look what's towering up into the sky.
"Downtown in this historic Massachusetts community "were three giant, I don't think I'm exaggerating, "have to be 20, 25 stories high, "steeples, church steeples that began to just dot the sky, "just in that one downtown. "They were so close to each other. "But what was amazing to me is that on every steeple, "there was a clock on every steeple to speak about time, "and you could look up there instead of looking at a watch "or a phone, the steeple told you what time it was. "And then I read something a few days later "that was shocking to me. "Listen to these words." The article said a remarkable change has taken place among the churches and the people of this country in regard to religion. Here it comes. Our forefathers put clocks on the outside of the places of worship so the communities might not be late to attend church. He said, "We have taken the clocks from the outside, "and we've put them in on the inside "so we don't stay too long in the house of God." We used to speak to the world what time it was. Now we're telling the preachers you better be done or we're leaving. Priscilla Shire was here just a few, but a month ago, and she asked the question to us. She goes, "How much time do I have to preach?" And we told her, she said, "55 minutes," we told her.
And she was shocked. She looked and she said to us, "That doesn't happen to me any longer." She said, "Usually I get 20 minutes, 17 minutes, "and at most 30 minutes. "We've seemed to have lost our voice, "we've seen we've lost our ability "to tell the world what time it is. "We need, I believe, more than ever, "in a sense to put that clock on the outside again. "We need to tell the world what time it is. "We need to tell the world what time it is on God's clock "as we're approaching the last days. "When we move things indoors, the world started "to build walls, to stop the last part "of that prophecy of Acts 2 of men calling "upon the name of the Lord. "That name, which is above every other name, "is the only name by which men can be saved. "And now while we're sitting inside of a place, "when we've failed on the outside clock, "reminding the people of what time it is, "we became proficient on inside clocks in the church. "21 minute sermons, perfectly timed worship services "with three songs, have to finish the service in 55 minutes "so we can move you out and get the next crowd in. "And the whole time we've lost God's clock "because we've emphasized our clocks today. "We need to get back to telling God's clock time today, "which is Christ is coming again very soon today.
"I'm telling you, we don't hear that enough today. "We have people looking to see what time it is, "and I can't believe that this church meets for two hours, "and I can't believe that you just let people just sing "whenever, let me just tell you something. "We need to get back on God's clock today. "We need to understand what God is doing. "Because while we began, while this is happening, "walls have been set up, so the message, "so the message that was supposed to be out to the world "doesn't come anymore. "Men have set up walls. "There's a wall like Jericho that stands "between the people and the preaching of the word. "It stands with intimidation like Jericho. "It's a wall that is put up from culture, "universities, the government, the courts, "and even popular opinion. "It stands high and it's intimidating. "It tries to keep out truth and it tries to keep us quiet. "It tries to keep out what God is saying "and what the people hear. "It's a wall that begins to intimidate. "It's a wall that tries to silence. "It's a wall that says keep your stuff inside the church "and don't bother us outside. "It's a wall that seems to come up, "the wall that stands between the word of God, "what the word of God says and what the people hear." And you see that in Acts chapter four,
from the very beginning and the birth of the church, Acts four one says as they, the disciples were speaking, as they were speaking. And then you skip down just three verses and it says in verse four, "Many of those who heard the message believed." So something was happening. Peter was preaching, people were listening, and in between those verses, men were trying to stop the message of Jesus going forward. People were preaching, the disciples were preaching, men were listening, but there was a wall that was being erected. There was something that was coming to stop that message. And here's the wall. Verse one, as they were speaking to the people, the priest and the captain of the temple guard, the Sadducees came up to them, because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them and put them in jail until the next day, for it was already evening. But many of those, don't miss verse four, but many of those who heard the message believed and the number of men came to be about 5,000. Think of this for a moment. A wall of elites, a wall of unbelievers, a wall of intimidation, a wall of religion, tried to stop the word of God going forward. The walls that have been built up on the outside
that says you can't preach anymore. You can't say the name of Jesus. And you can't say that there's only one way to heaven. You can't say Jesus or preach this word. Every Sunday morning at 5 a.m., I get a text from Pastor Claude from Montreal who is such a son of this house and preached here for 30 plus years. And every morning I get the text as we're texting to each other about praying for an awakening in New York City and Montreal. And also in the nation of France. Right now, right now, Pastor Claude has told me that Canada faces a bill called C9, C9, that can silence the church from speaking out from biblical topics on marriage, gender and sexuality. There is a bill that is passed and it is into law there in all of Canada that a pastor, if he's gonna preach from Leviticus or Romans on sexual ethics, he will be scrutinized. A church youth group has taught traditional Christian doctrines on marriage. They will be looked at and it will go through censorship. A Christian counselor offers biblical instruction to a client seeking spiritual direction will be censored. An evangelical website that defends positions on gender or sexuality will all be challenged. It will be fined and end up with closing the doors of that church.
The walls are set up so lives will not be changed. The walls have been set up so those 5,000 that were about to get saved in Acts two would not hear the message. The wall in Acts four was blocking 5,000 conversions and I kept thinking of this as I was reading this. What if fear wins? What if fear and intimidation wins? What if fear in those moments when they're speaking and they said you can't speak this message? What if not only fear wins, what if fear silences the truth? What if fear of consequences stop biblical preaching and now all of a sudden we have selective preaching because we're afraid, what if someone in the audience disagrees, what if someone posts something on the comment line that doesn't believe this or it gets pretty bad or all of a sudden they protest us or they say that this is a church that does this or they believe this. 5,000 people's salvation are on the other side of the wall and there has to come a voice, there has to come a people that are not afraid of the walls of intimidation that men will set up. There has to be voices today that will say we will not back down, we will not be afraid and this is what I believe. I believe Psalm when they raise up those walls, I believe in Psalm 18, it says for by you, I can run through a troop and by my God,
I can leap over a wall that those walls will not stop us. How do we leap over that wall? How do we run through that troop? And I believe there's one way folks, and I'll just tell you this, we need a fresh baptism of the Holy Ghost again. We need a fresh baptism in the church of the Holy Spirit again. Catherine Booth, the co-founder of the Salvation Army, said this to those that face opposition. She said, you may suffer, you may bleed, you may break, but you shall go on. The disciples suffered blood and were broken, but they did not stop, they continued on. It's one thing that you're fighting those voices that begin to raise up from the outside, you'll even have voices raise up from the inside. When people begin to say from the theologians, the growth, the church growth experts, the modern day church who says, don't talk about this filling of the Holy Spirit, it will frighten people off. Folks, I disagree, it's the one thing we need today. Frighten them off. No religious walls are gonna be set up that would stop this power of the Holy Spirit. If there is a time now, if there is a time that we need a mighty rushing wind into the people of God, it is today, we need a mighty rushing wind. So we have leaders outside the door saying,
don't say anything that we disagree with, and we have leaders within the church that say, don't speak about the filling of the Holy Spirit if you want the church to grow. So that's why you can't look this way or this way. You can only look this way and say, God, what are you saying to us? The filling of the Holy Spirit equipped us to speak, equipped them to speak. What was in between 5,000 salvation and the preaching was this opposition that says, you can't say that name. You can't say that name. And they needed the Holy Spirit for that. Pastor Carter has done something for me, our general overseer. Pastor Carter, who served here for 25 years, is a senior pastor. He does something to me that David Wilkerson did constantly to him. He would always say to-- Pastor Carter would say to me what Brother Dave would say to Pastor Carter. And these are the words. What is the Holy Spirit saying to you? What is the Holy Spirit saying to you? Not what the book said, not what books are saying, not what podcasts are saying. What is the Holy Spirit saying to you? I challenge leaders.
If you're sitting in this place or you're watching on, what is the Holy Spirit saying to you? Not what everybody else is doing. What is God saying to us? Those voices, those voices that seem to be so, so many of them. The dissenting outside tries to intimidate the professional voices on the inside, try to distract. But it's the voice of the Holy Spirit that is so important. Listen to these words from Luke chapter 5, verse 4. When he had finished, Jesus had finished speaking, he said to Simon, put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch. Simon answered and said, Master, we've worked hard all night and caught nothing. But I will do, as you said, and let down those nets. And when they hadn't had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break. And all I kept thinking when I read that was don't listen to the expert fishermen, listen to the carpenter, Jesus, who knows more than anybody else. Listen to the carpenter. Don't listen to the experts. What does the carpenter have to say to us? I'm reading a book that I feel prompted to, as I've been looking at the book of Acts. And I've been prompted, I think, by the Holy Spirit to read this, and I've read it decades ago, probably 30 years ago. The name of the book is called They Speak With Other Tongues.
They Speak With Other Tongues. The subtitle is A Skeptic Investigates, The Life-Changing Gift. This book was written by a reporter. His name was John Cheryl. I'll come back to that name in a second, who set out to investigate this phenomenon of speaking in tongues in the '60s, who's in the mid '60s, and then the process of his investigation and his in process of listening to all these stories, what was incredible was, to his surprise, while he is trying to see if it's real and to see if it's authentic, he gets baptized with the Holy Spirit in the middle of investment. I'm just telling you, if you're gonna play around with God, you better be careful, because if you get too close to the fire, you're gonna get burned in a good way. So while he's trying to critique it, he gets filled with the Holy Spirit. I have to tell you just a couple parts of this. I couldn't believe what I was reading. One of the places that he went to, to see what was going on here, was a noon meeting, a noon church meeting on 62nd and 3rd Avenue on the Upper East Side of New York City. He was here in our city. This was once again mid '60s. He talked about going in and feeling this power of the Holy Spirit, but still was resistant. He talked about, and this was started to be,
I was blindsided by this. He talked about a slender tall woman who came to the pulpit that he said there was something about her. There was this authority as she began to talk at noon to all these people. What was amazing was that was my aunt, who pastored on the Upper East Side. It was my aunt Anne, who's one of the pastors of that church that she would tell me about this noon meeting where people would flood in, and the power of the Holy Spirit would come. I didn't realize that. He said as an episcopal, he said I watched these people worship like something I've never seen. I've never seen this, he said, in the episcopal church. He says two things. He says when they sang a song, these were his words. He said they just let it rise. They kept singing it over and over again. He said, I thought it would be monotonous, but it was inspiring. I felt something as they kept singing the same song, and then he said this. He said, and they looked over at my wife, Tib, and I noticed that her foot was behaving like a penny costal, and that's what he said. He said, we've never done that in church. So my wife's foot started to get penny costal, and I didn't even realize what was going on. The book includes an endorsement that I love by Billy Graham.
When Billy Graham read this book, he said, I believe the time has come to give the Holy Spirit his rightful place in our churches. with the Holy Spirit. Now, let me tell you why John Cheryl is important. Let me tell you why this book meant something to me. John Cheryl talks about, he's the investigative reporter, the Episcopalian that wanted to see if this filling of the Holy Spirit was right. He was the one that co-wrote the cross on the such plate. John Cheryl was the one. If you read the cross on the such plate, people would say David Wilkerson co-written by John Cheryl. He said this about David Wilkerson before he wrote this book. He said that young preacher, listen to this, he said he prayed in tongues every day to prepare for the ministry among the most dangerous gangs in New York City. And there was something I didn't understand. This man would pray in tongues every single day so he could minister to the most dangerous people in New York City. He wrote that book in 1963, the cross on the such plate, went on a journey on the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And soon after, he talks about how his life began to become changed. And I was talking to somebody who knew John Cheryl, David Wilkerson, I was getting just my timelines right. And one of the men that was instrumental in leading him and in a sense blindsiding with the baptism of the Holy Spirit
was a man that they call the father of the charismatic renewal. It was a man, a Lutheran priest who got filled with the Holy Spirit named Harold Brederson. Harold Brederson, I don't even know, I found out that he was one of the first either directors or leaders of the Brooklyn Teen Challenge. Harold Brederson worked when Brother Dave first started the Brooklyn Teen Challenge. And Brederson told us, told, began to show the authenticity of this. Brother Dave worked with Harold and to see this work of the Holy Spirit that would begin to take place. And I started to realize how important this is. I've been on a journey through the book of Acts, especially in the times that we live in and how critical it is to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Let me read it to you again. As they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple guard of the Sadducees came up to them being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead and they laid hands on them and put them in jail until the next day for it was already evening. But many of those who heard the message believed in the number of men that came to be about 5,000. 3,000 saved on the day of Pentecost. And because of that work of the Holy Spirit,
Peter preaching, he preaches again and another 5,000 come to faith. Doesn't account for the women. So there could be well over 5,000. Peter was not intimidated by their anger or their annoyance. He was not intimidated by the laws that they would set up. He was not intimidated by being put in the middle of all these leaders of a community. He would not let those 5,000 be unreached. And he'd have to press through the intimidation. It's a challenge for every one of us because Peter was fearless. He knew what time it was on God's clock. He knew these are the last of the last days. That the challenge for us today is not to keep an eye on a clock in a church, but to keep an eye on God's clock. And if God's clock is saying these are the last of the last days, we don't have time to be intimidated. We don't have time to listen to the experts in church growth. And we don't have time to listen to those that would try to silence the truth coming to this community. This is the time to walk in the Holy Spirit and hear what God has to say. These people were trying to eradicate the only name that can be saved. As Peter is talking to them, Peter begins to announce to those angry and annoyed leaders. He says, "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that had been given among men by which we must be saved."
How did Peter stand up to those trying to block the word of God to 5,000 converts? How do you keep your mouth open when others are telling you to keep it quiet? Look at verse seven. When they had placed them in the center, they began to inquire about what power and what name have you done this? Here it comes. Then Peter, look at these words. Filled with the Holy Spirit. Said to them, rulers and elders of the people. The only way he could speak to them was to know that he had a baptism of the Holy Spirit. Filled with the Holy Spirit. Let me take you on just probably the most important things I can say to you. 'Cause the church without the spirit can't speak to the world. The church without the Holy Spirit puts the clock on the inside. Acts two starts at all. I want you to get ready to take screenshots, notes. Get these scriptures down. 'Cause I want to just take you on a quick journey. Take about seven, eight minutes through the Book of Acts for a moment and even some of the Gospels. Acts 2 is the fulfillment. This is what Jesus said. And behold, I'm setting forth the promise of my father upon you,
but you ought to stay in the city, Jerusalem, until you don't miss these words, are clothed with power from on high. The baptism is used these words. You'll be clothed, it'll be power, and it will come from on high. Clothes, it's like a garment. Said it's something that you'll wear. It's something that you've got to put on every single day. To cry to God, fill me with the Holy Spirit. I can spend 40 minutes dressing myself and making sure my hair looks good. But oh God, let me get clothed with the power of the Holy Spirit from on high. He said it would be power. The word is from dunamis. We get dynamite, it's power in action. It's a power that gives ability and capability. And he says it will come from on high. It will not come from a university or a diploma. It will not come from a denomination or a church. It comes when the heavens open up and the power of God comes down. Where did it happen? Not just in Jerusalem, but it happened in a house. Listen to verse 13, when they had entered the city, they went to the upper room where they were staying, where they were living, where they were residing. That is Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas Bartholomew, Matthew,
James the son of Alfeas. Simon, the zealot, Judas, the son of James. These are all in one mind. We're continually devoting themselves to prayer. You can be clothed with power from on high. You don't have to wait for Sundays. It could happen in the place that you reside every single day. How did it happen? It says in Acts two, verse one, Acts one 14, they devoted themselves to prayer. The word devoted means it was intentional and it was intensive that we would pray, not an occasional, inconsistent time. It was a desperation. And what happened? Verse two of chapter two, suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven, filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them, all of them, all of them, all of them, were filled with the Holy Spirit. And began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. All folks, I know, soon as you start saying tongues, everybody gets nervous. I want you to be nervous. I want you to understand that this is God wanting to come because we have pushed this gift aside.
I know they say, no, only talk about tongues at the first of the year on the prayer and fasting weeks when not many people are showing up. Never do it on Sunday 'cause the people will never come back. I'm sorry today. No apologies. When I see in this scripture, when I see God doing, I'm not backing off. We're going full force ahead. We need the power of the Holy Spirit today. People heard the mighty deeds of God in their own language. They were amazed and astonished saying, why are not all these who are speaking Galileans and how is it that we hear them in our own language to which we were born, Parthians and Medes and Edlemites, the residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, Kappa the Sea of Pontius and Ed, God started to baptize them and they started to speak in languages. Speaking in tongues is for three things. It's for preaching in Acts two. It's also for prayer and praise. Listen to 1 Corinthians 14, 15. I will pray with the Spirit and I will pray with my mind. That means in your language. I will sing with the Spirit and I will sing with my mind also. There are moments that you will pray in the Spirit and you're gonna pray in English or pray in American sign language like we heard today. But whatever that is, we need that filling of the Holy Ghost. What is the meaning of Pentecost?
It's the fulfillment of three prophecies. Joel, John and Jesus prophesied of this. Joel 2, 28, it will come about after this and I'll pour out my Spirit and all mankind, your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions even on the male and female servants. I will pour out my Spirit. It was also John the Baptist's prophecy. As for me, I baptized you with the water for repentance, but he was coming after me as mightier than I. I'm not fit to remove his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. I wanna challenge all those watching from university campuses. I'm celebrating the awakening that's happening on the university campuses and all the thousands that are getting water baptized. But don't stop at water baptism. Don't stop with water. There's fire to come. There is a fire that needs to come to get you set free. There's a fire that's needed to stand on those campuses. It was Joel, it was John the Baptist and He will give you another helper that He may be with you forever. The infilling of the Holy Spirit for four individual lives that needed to face four obstacles.
I want you to get these down. This is the part that I kept saying, fill me God because this is what we're about to face. I looked in the book of Acts and I found four people and I kept saying they were filled with the Spirit to face something. Number one, Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit to face people, to face the elites, to face supervisors and leaders. We read this in Acts chapter four. In four eight, the Bible says Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke to the rulers of the people and the elders. God promised, Jesus promised to Peter. He says, when they deliver you up and do not worry about what you shall speak, it will be given to you in that hour what you shall speak for it is not you who speak. Look at this, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you and through you. You telling me you don't need the Holy Spirit? When you're standing before a supervisor or a government official saying you may lose your job, that's when I'm going, fill me Holy Ghost and give me the words to say, you're gonna use your education, you're gonna use your degree. Find God and let the Holy Spirit speak. Peter filled, preached in a place that he used to be afraid of and now the Holy Spirit
helps him to face that fear. Secondly, Stephen was filled with the Holy Spirit to face not just persecution, but even death. My goodness, folks, I have never heard of so many people of diagnosis today. When I grew up, the only person we knew that had cancer was Gwen Wilkerson. Everybody's getting diagnosed today. Everybody is. What do you do when you get diagnosed and says you have six months, you have a year. We can treat this. You better get filled with the Holy Ghost. Listen to this, but he being full of the Holy Spirit, Stephen gazed into heaven, saw the glory of God, Jesus standing at the right hand of God and said, "Look, I see the heavens open, the Son of Man "standing at the right hand of God." Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, ran at him. They cast them out of the city, stoned them and the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul and they stoned Stephen as he was calling upon God, saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my Spirit." How do you say that? In the middle of persecution and death, you have to be filled with the Holy Spirit at those times. I'm just telling you, when you find out that there is something from a doctor,
don't Google it, don't go on Google Doc, don't look up going like, is there anything I can do? Is there any, you know, some other things that the FDA hasn't sanctioned yet that I can put in my body to? Here's a thought, get filled with the Holy Ghost. (congregation applauding) My goodness, we hear something. Let me text this, let me find this, let me Google this. You Google that stuff, you're gonna be more sick Googling. Get a hold of the Holy Ghost. You'll be able to face death and life with the Holy Spirit. Are you angry? I'm excited. (congregation laughing) Number three, seven deacons were filled with the Holy Spirit because of a challenging task before them. How challenging was it? Old widows complaining that are hungry, that's a challenge. Old widows hungry and that, oh, okay, let me go on, I'm gonna say something. The choosing of the seven deacons, listen to this, therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full, full, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business, but we will give ourselves continually the prayer and the ministry of the word and the saying, please, the whole multitude and they chose Steve and a man full of faith
and the Holy Spirit and Philip, Prochorus, Nicaine or Timon, Parmanus and Nicholas of Proselyte from Antioch, whom they set before the apostles and when they had prayed they laid hands on them and the word of God and the number of disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem and a great many of the priests were obedient to the truth. When you were faced with a task and you don't know what to do, get filled with the Holy Ghost. Let him, they were faced with a challenge here. No such thing as deacons. And now they had to just go, we need faith and we need the Holy Spirit. And finally, Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit having to face a demonic magician, Acts 39, and Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him, his name, this magician and said, oh full of deceit, all fraud, you son of the devil. Man, this is like really intense stuff. Some of you going, if I can say stuff like this, I'm getting full of the Holy Spirit. You son of the devil, you enemy of all unrighteousness. Will you not cease preventing the straight waves of the Lord? And now, indeed the hand of the Lord is upon you. You shall be blind, not seeing the sun at the time. And immediately a dark mist fell upon him.
He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. Then the pro council believed when he saw what had been done being astonished at the teaching of the Lord, when Paul had to face the demonic, when Paul had to face this magician. Folks, I'm telling you, there are people, Pastor Carter told me about it. There would be people that would sit in the back of this church with voodoo dolls while Brother Dave and Pastor Carter were preaching. They would dolls with their likeness. They would stick pins inside of them. Let me help you witches and all you voodoo people. You can stick all the pins you wanna do that. You can go ahead and protest. We've got the power of the Holy Ghost, the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not afraid. We've got the Holy Ghost. The filling of the Holy Spirit helps you face fear. The filling of the Holy Spirit helps you face death. The filling of the Holy Spirit helps you face challenges. The filling of the Holy Spirit helps you face hell. Every day, would you join me every day? Would you get up with me in the mornings and say I'm gonna face hell? I may face death. I may face a task. I don't know what to do.
I may face the fear of going to my university or in a class, but I'm gonna need your Holy Ghost. I'm gonna need you to fill me today. People who don't believe in the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, they call them cessationalists. That's what they call them. I'm just letting people know we are continuous here. We believe it continues on and on and on and on. The power of fear is no match to the power of the Holy Spirit. Listen to verse 13. Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained, they were amazed and began to recognize they had been with Jesus. They had been with Jesus. The confident, uneducated, silenced the professionals. When you spend time with Jesus, you not only get the Holy Spirit, but there comes a confidence that God is speaking to you. Tuesday night was such a powerful night here. As we heard the testimonies of Ranthus and Rubiani and Wyatt, my goodness. Don't miss Tuesday nights. What a powerful, powerful night. What a joy it was to speak after those three testimonies. I heard the story of one of our team here, one of the young ladies that was part of our momentum, our interns and the work of the Holy Spirit, how God began to speak to her.
Because we believe that the work of the Holy Spirit continues. She said about two months ago, she had a dream that this young man named Billy was in a car with her on the way to church. When she woke up, she felt strongly convicted to reach out to him. But she hesitated 'cause she didn't wanna reconnect with old people from her old job and all those things. So she kind of pushed it off to the side. She said then two weeks ago from Tuesday, she had a second dream. This time she called Billy and invited him to church. When she woke up, this was still in the dream, she was convicted by the Holy Spirit to call. But she hesitated again to reach out to him. Then it hit her. This is the whole point of walking with Jesus, is the work of the Holy Spirit, sharing the gospel. I have to tell you what took place. So our young, this young lady from our momentum team finally called this young man named Billy, invited him to Tuesday night and Billy accepted the invitation. After the call, God put it on her heart that ranfists who would give his testimony, ranfists would be speaking that night that she thought I'm gonna have him speak with Billy. So she thought somehow after the service and after everything, this young man who gave his testimony would speak with this.
She had no idea that ranfist was gonna be speaking that night. So he was gonna speak to Billy but from a microphone. This past Tuesday night from the moment Billy arrives, she wrote, Pastor Patrick's pre-service prayer through the worship, the testimony is clear, God was speaking directly. Ranfist's testimony especially impacted him because it's so closely mirrored Billy's own life. They were even born at the same year. Shame, share remarkable similar parts of their stories. And she wrote, "That night Billy's heart was touched. (congregation applauding) When you spend time with Jesus, he'll give you confidence. Whether it's to make a phone call or to stand in front of people, churches today put this into a once a week or just once in a while. Peter was fearless and unintimidated by the leaders. He said there was salvation and no one else for there was no other name under heaven but which men can be saved. Think about that for a moment. They were telling him, don't say that name. Do you understand why they were arrested in the first place? They were arrested because they saw a lame man at the gate beautiful in Acts three. They prayed for him, a beggar prayed for him in the name of Jesus and the man's leg strengthened
and he was healed. This is what it says, but Peter said Acts three six. Peter says, I do not possess silver and gold but what I do have to give to you in the name of Jesus Christ, the Nazarene walked. So now think about this. They're saying you can't use that name anymore. The name that heals, the name that sets free, the name that saves you, the name that protects you, the name that makes hell tremble, you can't say that name anymore. Listen to what they say, and when they had summoned them, they commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. The name they brought into the sickness, they were ordered not to preach. Think about that. The name that raised that man up. What do you think is going on? That name that they said, get up in Jesus name. The elite said, you can't use that name. That's the government rule. The courts have voted for that. Listen to this. But Peter and John answered and said, whether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than God, you be the judge. For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard. (congregation applauding)
I have to read this to you. From years past, there was a Baptist preacher from Los Angeles named Dr. E. V. Hill. I was reading one of his books some years ago called The Savior Worth Having. And he preached about this moment when Peter is challenged of the no speaking rule by the courts. And in Dr. Hill's sermon called In the Name of Jesus from Acts 4, I wanna describe what E. V. Hill describes this moment, all from verse 20 when they say, we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard. Listen to this, Dr. Hill's words. Peter stood up and said, we have a condition that prohibits us from obeying your orders. He says, it's called a, I can't help it, condition. He said, we couldn't help it if we wanted to. We couldn't stop speaking in spite of your threats because we are not spectators but participators. This is not something we turn on and turn off. Basically they said, you'll have to do what you've got to do and we will do what we got to do, but can't help it is all over us. He said, we were with Jesus when He turned water to wine. We were with Him when He yelled into a tomb Lazarus come forth. We were with Him when He gave sight to the blind. Don't tell us to shut up. We got evidence. And on that basis, we can't help it. We've got to speak the name of Jesus.
And He said, the church needs a big help in, and I can't help it. Stand with me. Samuel Chadwick, an old Methodist preacher that knew the power of the Holy Spirit said men ablaze are invincible. Hell trembles when men kindle. The church is powerless without the flame of the Holy Ghost. Now listen to this, destitute of fire, nothing really counts. Possess the fire, nothing else really matters. The one vital need is fire without the flame and fervor of the Holy Ghost. The church will never accomplish its mission. And here's the problem. The church always fails at the point of self-confidence. When the church is run on the same line, "Ooh, as a circus!" There may be crowds, but there's no Chicano glory. Can I just tell you? I'm sick of the circus. I'm just sick of the circus. Anybody with me that we just need an infilling of the Holy Ghost, we need its power again. I don't know any other way to say this, but I have two things we're going to close with. I want us to do that song that we talked about. Hell, I kept singing this morning as I was praying. I just kept praying, "God, fill me with the Holy Ghost. Fill me with the Holy Ghost." Some people get afraid of that saying, "Say Holy Spirit. Fill me with the Holy Ghost." Fill me with the Holy Ghost. Fill me.
Fill me with me. Fill me with the Holy Ghost. Fill me. Fill me. You know what happens when you get filled? It's this. Sing that. How many remember this song? How many remember this song? How many remember this song? Let the power in. Let's do it again. Come on, let's all sing. Come on. Annoying to sing it. Let the power. Close hands and sing it. Let the power of the Holy Ghost fall on me. Let's sing it one more time. Annoying to sing. Come on, Church, announce it. Let the power of the Holy Ghost fall on me. The filling of the Holy Spirit helps you to face fear. The filling of the Holy Spirit helps you to face death. The filling of the Holy Spirit helps you to face any challenge that's before you. The filling of the Holy Spirit will help you face hell. I'm here to tell you this, folks. I want you to listen very carefully. Do you think the Holy Spirit, do you think this filling of the Holy Spirit is optional? It's not optional for us here.
Not in New York City, not in the cities that you're watching. It's not optional in London. It's not optional in Lima. It's not optional in Barbados. It's not optional in Los Angeles. It's not optional in Dallas. Do you think the filling of the Holy Spirit is optional? Do you think it's denominational? Of course it's not. My goodness. It's critical for an awakening in these last days. For what we have, because there are walls being put up and there are thousands on the other side, those walls are trying to silence you with intimidation. If you don't say that name, don't say that name. That's when you have to go, "God, I need that can't stop talking about Jesus." That's what I need. That's what they're telling them. Here's my question. If there's no other name on heaven and earth by which a man can be saved, how many believe that? How many believe what he's saying? How do they get saved if they listen to the courts? How do those people get saved? Well, you've got to invite them to church and you can't speak about anything controversial. Well, don't bring them to Times Square Church. I'll tell you that right now. We're going to talk about the Holy Ghost. We're going to talk about infilling. We're going to talk about, we need a baptism of the Holy Spirit. We're gonna talk about a time clock that God says,
if that's the last days in Acts two, then these are the last of the last days. So here's what I first wanna say. I wanna say this to people that are sitting here today. There is no other name under heaven and earth by which you can get to heaven. It's the name of Jesus. That is it. There is no other way. I'm a good person. I've gone to a synagogue, I've gone to a church, I've gone to a cathedral, I've gone to a mosque. There is no other name. Jesus is either a liar or he's telling the truth. I happen to believe he's telling the truth. The Bible says, let every man be found a liar. God is true. And if he says, there's no other way to heaven but by the name of Jesus, then I need Jesus in my life. So can I just ask you this? Let's take the first thing, because there's a wall that comes up. There's people that want us to be a little bit, that wants us to be a little bit, kind of like a correct here, politically correct, not hurt your feelings, not, there is no other name but Jesus. And the walls of universities, governments, courts, and popular opinion and social media have erected these walls to make us afraid
to say the name Jesus. We know how to invite people to church but we don't say Jesus anymore. So let me just help you Jesus. (audience applauding) Okay, I just wanna help you. (audience applauding) If that's the only name that I can get saved by, why do you think they're putting up those walls? Come on! Why do you think that they're saying you can't say that? You can't use that name. Everybody's not, every, all religions are equal. Oh, I'm gonna get, I'm ready for anyway. Send whatever you want, I'm ready for all of you. (audience applauding) Seriously, I'm ready. And listen, if this is my last day, I'm going out calling on Jesus. I'm just telling you that right now, I'm calling on Jesus. (audience applauding) But let me tell you why I'm not afraid. Can I tell you why I'm not afraid? I'm filled with the Holy Ghost. (audience laughing) So if you're waiting for me in the alley? (audience laughing) I'll be calling upon Jesus the whole time. I'm gonna see Jesus sitting at the right hand of the Father, standing, saying hey,
I wasn't expecting this soon, but welcome to heaven. This, it's that name, it's that name that saves you. Here it is, put your watch aside for just a moment. This is about God's clock. And this is the last of the last day. So can I make a plea to you? Christ is coming soon. You're not promised tomorrow. That's God's clock. Some of you go, this is what some of you're doing. Man, I'm 25. I got my whole life ahead of me. How many of you know it could be over? So here it is, here it is. According to God's clock, if these are the last of the last days, it's time to get right with God. It's just what it is. Don't bow your heads, don't close your eyes. How many are here and saying, I've been away from God, I need God, and you're just going, I need God in my life. Would you raise your hand? Just saying, this is the last of the, hold it up high, hold it up high, because this is it, this is the moment. Okay, hold them up high, hold them up high. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Okay.
