What Do You Want? // Mark 10:46-51 // Bianca Juarez // Suddenly Sunday
My name is Bianca. I'm one of the pastors here. And I want to make sure that we give a proper shout out because it's not just those in the room that are worshiping with us today. Oh, no, no, no, no. Because of the technology, we got family around the world that's joining it. We got somebody from Chalafax, British Columbia, out in Canada. We got somebody from South Africa that's joining us. We got Maryland in the house, Chandler, Arizona in the house, Texas in the house. I mean, oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. And then Tima Nadu from India, also in the house. Can we welcome our online family and our brothers and sisters that watch on the Pando app from incarcerated places across the nation. We love you. We're grateful for you. And before we take a seat, before we take a seat, humor me for a second, I'm going to ask a favor, online family, in-room family, I'm going to ask that you muster up faith in your heart for right now. And I'm going to ask that your faith join with my faith as we talk about vision, as we talk about not just what God has for this house, but what God has for your house. Because I firmly believe that if he does it in this house, he's going to do it in your house. So let's come a big faith. I want a moment of stillness. I believe that God can speak through loud and music and joyous worship. I love that we have space down here today. We have people come up and worship. I love that. But right now, I want a private moment between you and the spirit of God, to calm your prefrontal cortex, to calm your central nervous system, and allow the Holy Spirit to breathe on you. For the first time, perhaps all week, will you do me a favor church? Will you breathe deeply in through your nose? Deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, and slowly let it go. In Hebrew, it is believed that we mimic and echo the actual name of God, Yahweh. Every time we breathe, Yahweh. We say the name Yahweh. Do me one more favor, breathe in really big, and ask the spirit of God to release something in you as you release your breath out. We have some visitors not from California, and you must be thinking, "Oh, these weirdo Californians that their breath work, hey, we're doing what the Bible says. We're breathing in the goodness of God, and we're releasing any anxiety. It's a spirit of living God. I pray that you meet us here in this space, and in this place. Thank you for what you have done in our community over the last year. You are a faithful God. You are a faithful God. You have brought us too far to leave us here. And so with all our humility and all of our gratitude, I pray that we come with our big dreams and you breathe on them. Actually, these are not big to you.
These are small. I pray for big vision for those in this room who feel like they can't see what's in front of them, or those that don't feel like they have vision for their life, for those that feel like they're in the darkest moments of their life. I pray that your word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. To you be the glory. In Jesus mighty name where the Church of God says, "Amen and amen, online family, we love you. Go ahead. Turn to your neighbor and tell them God can move suddenly." Woo! God can move suddenly. On suddenly Sunday, we are diving into Scripture and we're going to celebrate everything that God has done in our community and all that God will do in our community. And I just want to say, as one of the leaders and pastors of this community, it is an honor to lead the people of God into the lands that we've never been before. And I'm grateful. I'm so grateful for you. Can we thank God for sustaining us over the last year for what God did yesterday here in Cook Auditorium for the people that were able to come in and hear the Word of God and experience God's presence in His Spirit. Now, before we dive into the Word of God, I want to take a moment and share with you. Can I brag on this community for a second? Okay. The front people are the real safe people. I need to know back row. Is it okay if I spend some time and just tell, testify to what God has done? Thank you. We have seen 1,730 people give their life to Jesus. We have seen 249. Actually, I'm going to say 269 because we've got people getting baptized after service today. So stick around. And if you're here today, you hear the message. You're like, I want to go public with my faith. I want to be baptized by water. Guess what? We have a t-shirt for you. We've got to tell for you. Go get dunked to the glory of God. Yes, we had 3,916 people say yes to community groups in the last sessions that we've had. And we have seen 213 community The group's launch in the course of-- We have had a million downloads on YouTube of messages reaching around the world. We are a generous church who has sewn into 13 churches around Orange County in Southern California. And we have met the need of over 600 people experiencing homelessness here in Orange County. Yes, but as I mentioned before,
we are not just reaching Orange County. We've had the opportunity to reach the incarcerated across the nation. And thanks to the Pando app, we have been able to get into prisons and jails and check this out over. It hasn't even been a year. If I'm not mistaken, Carlos, you'll tell me. Is it eight months? Eight months, 800,000 downloads of sermons that have come out of this house. And that's cool, but let me tell you what's better. 238 inmates found freedom in prison through Jesus Christ. That's what's up, family. That's why we do what we do. This has happened in the last year. Can you just imagine what God wants to do through us for our good and for His glory? Get ready, buckle up, baby. This is just the beginning. Welcome to Vision Sunday. Turn with me in your Bibles to Mark chapter 10. If you don't have a Bible, we are a Bible teaching, Bible believing church, and we have a free Bible. Thanks to those who've given so generously to this house. You need a Bible, we want to put a paper Bible in your hand. If your Bible lights up, it's okay. Mine does too, a little bit of judgment. But that's okay, we're glad that you're here. And if you do not, we want the Word of God
to bathe over you today, so we put the Scriptures on the screen. I'm gonna shove the Word of God in your mouth whether you want it or not. All right, online family, in-room family. Mark chapter 10, verse 46 says this. Ooh, you hear that sound? Paper, Bibles, oh gosh, the word nerd to me is excited. Okay. Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with the large crowd, we're leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus, which means son of Tameis, was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard, when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me." And we're seeing her thinking like, "Oh, good, we already know you're loud, Bianca. "Why are you yelling?" Because there's a crowd of people that are reaching out for Jesus, and they want to touch him, and they want a healing, and here's this blind man who cannot see where Jesus is going, but he hears the crowd, and the only way to get his attention is to yell, "Jesus, son of David, "have mercy on me." Many rebuked him and told him, "Shut up, bro. "Be quiet, and he shouted all the more. "Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me." Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man.
"Share up on your feet, he's calling you." The rowing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus, "What do you want me to do for you? "If you brought your Bible, I want you to underline "that wildly important question. "If you didn't bring your Bible, but you're seated "next to someone who brought their Bible, "underline it for them. "Biblical graffiti is a real thing. "I'm from LA, we're gonna bring graffiti to OC, "but it's gonna be in our Bibles, yes." Now, I've always been intrigued with stories of Jesus' crazy miracles in the New Testament, specifically people who struggle to get into the presence of God. Because you know what I realize in setting the scripture? The greater the struggle, the greater the miracle. And I wanna focus on one particular narrative, and one question, one story, one documented story, one documented interaction that Jesus had with this man, Bartimaeus, and this one question. As I was preparing for this message, just this week I had a conversation with one of my close friends, and they had brought up their inordinate love for the movie The Notebook. By the show of hands, how many people are familiar with that God-awful movie? I'm judging you, judging you, yeah. I'm in the very small percentage of people
that did not like that movie, and if you're not familiar, bless you, thank you, yes. If you're not familiar with that movie, it stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, and they're in a forlorn love triangle. I mean, and I watched this, and I was so annoyed. I was so annoyed because I watched this when I was a single woman, and even single now, I'm annoyed. Girl, get your life. He's handsome, he has a job, he loves you, he's building your dream house. What is there to think about? And in this epic scene that will appear on memes, is so frustrated. He turns to her and says, "What do you want? "What do you want? "No one he wants, no one your parents wants, "but what you want? "What do you want?" And then she gives this very girl like, "It's just not that easy." And he shouts back, "What do you want?" As Rachel Adams struggles to answer this question, I was reminded that I fear that people are afraid or unable to answer this question that Jesus asked by Barnabias. What do you want? Church, what do you want? What do you want?
The title for today's teaching is very simple, very profound, very deep. What do you want? You're welcome, great. And now there's suddenly Sunday. I'm gonna share what we set out to do as a church, but I had prepared a different message. I was ready. I knew that we had suddenly Sunday, so I prepared in this morning at three o'clock, God woke me up and said, "That's not the message." You need to talk about a blind man on Vision Sunday because there's people in the room that can't see their future. There's people in the room who can't see their future and they don't even know what to ask. So let's break this down, let's get into the text. Verse 46, we're gonna read it again. Then they came to Jericho as Jesus and his disciples, together with the large crowd, were leaving the city a blind man, Barnabias, which means son of a tomatoes. This tomatoes was sitting by the roadside begging. I love this passage so much because this city Jericho is actually listed in the Old Testament, in the Book of Joshua, and it's the first city that the children of Israel would overtake on their way into the promised land. Which shows me. If God did it then, God can do it again.
And as they're leaving the city, they pass by Barnabias and it's interesting that Barnabias, his name is listed because most people with the illness or a sickness, they're noted by their illness or their sickness. A man with a withered hand, a woman with an issue of blood, a blind man, a lame man, a leper. And yet, blind Bart gets a shout out. He gets his name in a holy writ. The name bar to may is bar in Hebrew means son of and to may is means honorable. So he is the son of a man who's greatly esteemed and has much honor. And how sad would it be if you, a son of a man who was so honorable was outside the city gate with a catching cloth cloak that we read about, so cloak that was placed. Those were beggars outside the city gates and they had to be outside the city gates because many of them were not allowed to be in the city gates and definitely not to worship with the people of God. And here's Bartimaeus with a daddy who people know, honored and esteemed and he's blind on the outside of his city with a cloth that catches food, money, and he would be dependent on the generosity of others just so that he can live. And he hears a crowd and there's something in him that recognizes he has heard the name Jesus before. He's heard the name Yeshua. He's heard that he's a miracle-working God
and he cries out in verse 46. Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me. Bartimaeus didn't have eyes, but he had his ears. He may not have had the ability to see but he had the ability to use his voice. So I gotta ask you, you're focused on what you don't have. My question is, what do you have? And why aren't you using it? And he says this in verse 46, Jesus, son of David, that term Jesus, son of David. It might be lost on you, Gentiles, but as a girl who is Jewish, I say this all the time, 1% Jew, welcome, welcome, Shalom Gentiles. This was a reference, an Aramaic reference, a term son of David would be saying, Messiah, Hebrew for Messiah. So he is saying, Jesus, son of God have mercy on me. That term mercy is in what we would say, come heal me. The son of God, I believe in your divinity, what he is shouting above me. Jesus as healer, Jesus as rabbi, Jesus as a miracle worker, Jesus as a shaman or something. Jesus as a religious heretic, as many people viewed him during that tape. This blind man who gets a name mentioned, says Jesus, son of David, Messiah, come heal me. He used what he had to get the attention of God. And maybe on this vision Sunday, you feel like blind Bartimaeus. Maybe you feel like you should be doing something
that your family would be proud of and yet you've made some decisions that you feel have disqualified you. Maybe you don't have the job that you want or the education that you want. Maybe you don't have the house that you want. Maybe you feel like at this age and stage in life, you should have vision for your future, but you feel blind. Maybe you feel like you don't have, you're at a lack or a deficit and you were like blind Bartimaeus with a catching cloth here to receive because you're dependent on other people. Blind Bartimaeus is on the outside of the city and he's begging. And I want you to envision the isolation he felt to the reality of him being banished outside of the city, not being able to worship with his family, to feel the desperation that this man would have felt because he is dependent on the generosity of others and he is seated in a posture that is beneath everyone in his community. Verse 47, when he heard that it was Jesus, he shouted, "Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me." I love that as I take a look at this text and I was preparing for today, there's something about this man, if I'm honest with you, that makes me think he's just like me. I have my physical sight and I have my eyes,
but sometimes, if I'm honest with you, I don't know where I'm going. And I know there's people in this room where you have your physical sight, but you can't see your future. Maybe your physical sight, but you feel like you have been dropped into an inkwell and you were surrounded by depression and darkness and maybe you're in this room and you feel like you're sticking out your hands and asking God of the universe, please pay attention to me. Don't you see what I need? Jesus was just passing by, he wasn't there to stay. Guess what? Don't let another Sunday go by without you crying out to Jesus. What a waste for you to shower, I prayed you shower. What a waste if you showered, put on clothes, put on your Mac and Mary Kay and Charlotte Tiber, you shined your shoes, you put on your watch, you put on your cologne, you put on your perfume, you came here, you worship, you got a little Jesus high and you left unchanged. You left with all of your pride and dignity and tack, thinking like, I'm polished and I'm orange county, what your world is dilapidated and falling apart. What a waste, don't waste your time, don't waste your life. Cry out Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me. I love that this man did something that nobody else did. He went above the crowd, he shouted all the more
in the face of people telling him to shut up. And if you only do what you've always done, you will only get what you always had. Are you tired of doing the same thing and getting the same results but expecting something different? According to Einstein, that is what is called insanity. Verse 48, "Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me. Maybe you're in a season of your life where you feel like you are crying out and you're people, your community, your family are saying shut up, bro. It's the same issue that girl don't want you. All right, here's a tissue for your issue. I'm so tired of the same issues that you have. Like can we get a new problem, please? Like there's people that are telling you to be quiet. And there might even be people that are telling you that God doesn't have the ability to intervene. Hey, let your desire outweigh their discouragement. You got people telling you you will never go to school because no one in our family went to school. You invite them to your college graduation and say God did it. You have somebody in your life that are telling you, hey, you'll never stand a shot with that chick. You know what, invite them to your wedding as your best man and say God did it. You have somebody in your life that is telling you you're not gonna get that job, you're unqualified, you can't do ministry, you never went to seminary.
You know what? Don't let man's opinion of you stop God's call for you. Let your desire outweigh their discouragement. Maybe you're here and you're sitting in the waiting. Don't stop asking, knock and knock and knock and knock and knock and knock. I wanna be the annoying widow. Open the door, God, give me bread, give me crumbs, by our community, God show up. God, if you don't show up, I don't want to move. If you don't lead us, God, I don't want to follow. If you don't give us vision, Lord, I don't want to move forward. So take us, God, show us, God, provide for us, God, but you will always hear me asking. I don't know what God's going to do, but He will definitely get my ask and opinion, okay? And you want to know something this is biblical. I got my cue from King David who says this in Psalm 40 verse 1. I waited and waited and waited some more patiently. I love the drama of King David. He's so emo. Like if he was a personality like in teens, he would be like that very like dashboard professional long bangs skater, emo boy with like black nail polish. It's like I waited and waited and waited the level of drama of King David, but I feel him. I waited and waited and waited some more patiently knowing God would come through for me. That is a statement of faith. Then at last he bent down and listened to my cry. Verse 49, Jesus stopped and said, call him. So they called the blind man. Cheer up on your feet. He's calling you. This shows me you don't have to have sight to be seen, that there is a God in heaven who sees you begging silently when you're outside of the city gates. And I want to tell you, you have everything you need today to be seen by God. You have everything you need to be seen by God. And let me make this very, very clear because I think sometimes we can come to church and maybe be a little bit confused. I don't want you to think that your pastor, your community group leader, your therapist or even this church is Jesus. No, no, no. Jesus sees you. Jesus can meet your need. Jesus can heal you. Jesus is going to guide you. Jesus is going to direct you. We are the people that are saying, cheer up. He's calling you. Go chase him. That's our role. But we will not take the place of Jesus. Verse 50, throwing the clog aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. Remember that cloth that I told you about in ancient times that caught the money and the food
or anything that people donated? Guess what? When the Lord calls you, the thing that used to be dependent on, you no longer need. Throw it to the side. Ooh, that's a freezy and a funzy. Some of y'all are going to get that later. All right. When the still quiet, small voice of Jesus calls you, when you feel like you are in the presence of God, do like blind barts and get up and make your way to Jesus. Stop caring about what you look like in church communities. Stop caring what your desperation looks like. Stop caring about what people think about your worship. Stop caring because when the Spirit of God calls you, you get up and go. If you're taking notes, I want you to drop this down. If you want God to move for you, move towards God. If you want God to move for you, move towards God. Verse 51 says this. What do you want me to do for you? The blind man said, Rabbi, which means teacher, I want to see. Blind Bartimaeus's prayer was absolutely impossible. It's impossible. Nobody could do it. Please, no. My Bartimaeus didn't ask for world hunger to stop. He didn't ask for global peace and world wars to cease to exist. No, no, no. He had a prayer, a huge prayer need. And I firmly believe that God is asking, God of the universe is asking you the same question. What do you want me to do for you? And if we believe that, we need a moment to quiet ourselves and to really ask, what do I want for God from God? And I want you to wrestle with it because I think sometimes, especially in our churchanese culture, doesn't what churchanese is? Yeah, it's like that fake Christian language. Y'all speak it. You know, your world's imploding and someone's like, hey, who are you? I'm good. Great. Amazing. Blessed and highly favored. Yeah, yeah. I don't want to do that anymore. Let's put that to the side. Let's have some honest conversations. What do you want God to do with you? What do you want God to do for you? What do you want God to do through you and in you? Jot it down and wrestle with it. The second thing I want you to jot down and I'm saying to this sex is if you want God to move for you, you have to know what you want. And a lot of times we get mad at God because he doesn't come through in our lives. We just feel let down. And maybe the reason why he doesn't come through is because we are so unsure of what we are asking for. If you don't know what you're asking for, you will get what you don't want. If you do not articulate what it is that you're asking for, if God gives it to you, you won't even know because you never ask for it. Inception, two, two, two, two, two. If you don't know what you're asking for, how will the Lord show up and prove to you that He answer to if you're not asking. If we aren't living the life that we imagined.
Write it down. What do you want God to do for you in this next year? And I don't know what you want, but if you don't know what you want, there's no way that God can answer that. And many of us are asking the things of God that feel so low or shelf. In fact, I believe that many of us are asking for things that are so low because we're afraid of letting other people think that our God is unable or incapable. I think that we're afraid to ask because we don't want to be let down. And so what happens is that many of us walk around blind, we're stumbling in life, we don't know where to go. And then we know that we have access to the God of the universe. And so we're stumbling around. And instead of asking for a miracle, we say, "God, can you carve me a blind walking stick so I could stumble through life a little easier?" And so we settle for these small, inefficient, ineffective, non-powerful asks of God because we're afraid He's going to let us down. Verse 51, "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked Him. I texted a woman in this community. Carla and Riaakris have been part of this community for a minute. And they've been married for a number of years, but they wrestled with infertility for a long time. And we rallied around as a church community, as a staff in community groups, as friends. And we were believing and then month after month and then year after year of wanting to hear a cry like that baby and not having God answer that. It almost felt cruel. It almost felt punitive because I had faith. I had this holy hunch, "God, you're going to do it." But then month after month and year after year, there was nothing. There was people in this community that gave them prophetic words.
And then I began to get, if I'm honest with you, I got a little embarrassed. Like, I keep on asking God to move and it's silent and I had such big hope. What happens when what we see doesn't match what God has said? What happens when what we hear doesn't look like our hear? You know what I'm saying? And I think many of us don't ask God for big things because we're afraid we're going to hurt His reputation. Because if we ask for big things and He doesn't come through, then we're going to be embarrassed or we're going to be let out. And a lot of us are trying to protect the reputation of God by praying small prayers and coming with little itty-bitty ass because we're trying to squeeze the God of the universe into an understanding that we have. And God is trying to break you out of your small dreams, your small prayers, your small ass and enter into His big dreams, His big vision and His big desires for your life. Verse 51, "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked Him, the blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see." And I was in Chris and Morgan Galvez' house having dinner with a couple of worship leaders when I got a FaceTime from Carla Ryok showing me a sonogram picture of the baby that the Lord touched their family with and gave them. Jesus knew what this blind man needed, but He made Him ask for what He wanted. We have a God that just, that yes, cares about your need, but we have an amazing God that actually cares about what you want. Do you know what your want is? What is the want buried deep in the inside of your soul? What is the desire that your heart is longing for? If you don't know what you want, you're going to get what you don't want. And then therein lies the problem because we tell people,
ask God for big things, and all of a sudden, we find ourselves praying for Ferrari, praying for the mansion in Corona Del Mar, single girls praying for an old guy with a trust fund who's about to kick the bucket. This is Orange County, we can tell in ourselves. James Ford too says this, "You do not have because you don't ask." When you ask, you do not receive because you ask with wrong motives that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. So when you ask, you're asking for the wrong things, the first deals with the heart, but we stop there. So we're like, "Oh, the heart is wicked and nefarious, evil above all else." So I'm not even going to go to God with like big, crazy, audacious goals. No, no, no, but in doing that, we skip verse two. The motivation isn't the problem. The secondary cause is that we're not receiving from God because we don't even have the God as to ask Him for it. What weak will people are we, we serve the God of the universe? And when you know what you want, we have to have the courage to ask. So today on Vision Sunday, let me tell you what we are believing that we have courage for and what we're asking God for. Let me share with you a quick story, we have an office but we don't have a permanent church building or location and so what happens is inmates will Google Revere, they find out where our church is at, they get the school address, Valencia High School address, and the school is being flooded with handwritten letters from inmates. And I know it's so cool and so I'm getting like droves of envelopes of people testifying, I'm getting pictures, people are coming in, our brothers and sisters who are incarcerated are coming with church merch ideas for t-shirts, I mean they're creative, they're creative, all right. I've read every single letter that has come in but one of them really got me. In this community, maybe you're new here, I've had a loved one that has wrestled with mental health and addiction for 16 years and I shared with the church and the highs and the lows and the rehab and for the last seven months. My brother has been walking in sobriety, he was here yesterday on his knees in the moment of confession. Eight months ago my brother was sleeping under a park bench in Compton California out of his mind labeled schizophrenic and bipolar, addicted to drugs and he was worshiping the Lord yesterday. But for years I've been speaking about him and I've been asking you to say his name so that when hell hears his name they know they have no dominion on Sebastian Joel. Check this out, one of my brothers who's incarcerated in Texas wrote a letter not to revere, not to me, to my brother and encourage my brother to keep walking in the ways of the Lord. My dad was so juiced by dad, was so jazzed by dad, sent him one of his books, a handwritten letter, a photo of the family, what is the inmate need of that, you know. It's my family, it's my family, so we're doubling down and revere is going behind bars. We were partnering with God behind bars to continue to resource the salvation that's happening there.
And I get to go in and hopefully people from revere some of our staff will be able to go in and meet the needs of those incarcerated brothers and sisters. Number two, we're very excited about this revere español. We know that there is a huge Latin American need when it comes to, oh that's Jesus calling, he says pay attention, yes. We are going to, with the help of some technology, we are going to be translating every single one of our sermons into Spanish. On YouTube we are going to meet the need of the globe and guess what, there's space for you to serve here in this ministry because we need people who are proficient and articulate in translating Spanish. Now you will have the transcripts, you just need to make sure that there's no heresy, praise God, all right. So there's ministry opportunities for revere behind bars and corresponding with some of these inmates who would like accountability, maybe even discipleship. There's partnership opportunities with our revere español, but we're not going to start there. One of the biggest needs in Orange County, the two greatest needs that are here in Orange County, Southern California, but Orange County specific, two needs. Number one, mental health access and number two, financial assistance for housing because we live in one of the most expensive area codes and locations in Southern California. So we decided that we are going to be bold and we're going to be brazen, we are going to offer, we are going to offer, am I good? Oh I love it, thank you Omar, good, we're good. We're going to offer therapy services for those at insurance rates and we are partnering with clinical licensed therapists to provide mental health through biblical foundations. And so we're, and this is just the beginning, I'm in faith saying that we're going to have a revere wellness center. We're going to start with therapy and counseling, but guess what, I believe it's going to be so much bigger. I may not be able to see my next step, but I'm like blind, Bartimaeus, Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me and then we're not going to stop there. I believe that we need to resource the people of God and I firmly believe that there will be people that will come out of this church, that will plant other churches that will go to the missions field, they'll be apologists, they'll be evangelists. And so we are starting in September, the revere leadership school. I am so excited for those that feel called to serve in ministry or simply just to grow in their leadership, I believe. And I'm going to say this in faith and I was talking to my friend about this and he was like, hey, that's a you desire. It's not really for the church and I agreed and I didn't put in my notes, but I'm a rebel at heart and so I'm just going to tell you what I would love to see. I would love to see 10 men and women raised up in this house to be church planners. I would love to work myself out of that are in this community to start a work to reach the world. That's me. I would love to see it. I would love for the sacrifices of the saints to see how good God is and to create communities where people can get the word of God and experience the presence of God and get the revelation of God and get the life change of God. I'm selfish. I'd love to see it. I was in an elder meeting with Dean Owens. Dean, I heard your voice back there and he reminded me in our elder meeting on Wednesday we were preparing for suddenly we were preparing for this weekend and he reminded me he said, "Pastor B, two years
ago at a vision Sunday, you said that your heart's desire was to gather people to have an experience with the Holy Spirit and that there was going to be worship and no hurdles and it was going to be this event for people to come in and experience from different denominations and he said, "And we're doing it." Now I'm not going to be afraid of what God is putting on my heart because I want you to feel that burden too. This is going to go a little road but in a second at the end of service I want to pray for those that feel like they have a ministry call upon their life. You're going to stand up because you're not going to be embarrassed about what people think. I don't know what the Lord is calling you to but will you be willing to say, "Jesus son of David, have mercy on me. Come see me." We're going to pray for you. Okay, here we go, here we go. What else are we going to do? Revere next-gen. Remember the dream that we had of bringing back a special needs ministry for kids? It's happening and it's launching. Yes, Revere kids, it's going to have a space for children with special needs and they're going to have partners that are going to love them and partner with them so parents can come and receive the Word of God. Our kids are going to be taught the Word of God and our kids are going to experience the presence of God and it doesn't stop there because our youth is now gathering every single Sunday at our church offices. Shout out to our youth. I'm believing big things for you. Discipleships happening, summer camp is happening, winter camp is happening. I'm like, "Who are we and how are we doing this?" But it doesn't stop there because the young adults are also gathering and they're doing discipleship and they're having these nights where they get together where they get to invite their unsaved loved ones and friends just to kick it, just to kick it, just to come and hang out, be in the presence of God. And last but not least, I mentioned this yesterday, it's suddenly I have this crazy goal. We are a Bible teaching church here and this crazy goal of Revere church translating an entire book of the Bible to a tribe or a people group who have never read one verse. There is over a billion people who have never read one verse of the Bible. And so I would love for this church to put a stake in the ground and eradicate biblical poverty. How crazy would that be? Yes, that one person, thank you. I appreciate that. I want you to be excited. I want you to feel the burden because I can't do this and you can't do this. But maybe, maybe if you come together and I come together and your faith and my faith and my finances and your finances
and the spirit of God breathes on this, can you imagine the impact that we could have? And so I want you to write this down. When you want God to move, delight in Him, no matter of the outcome. Psalm 37, 4 says this, delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. When you fall in love with God, He places a desire in your soul and He will put a passion in your heart that only He can fulfill. God shapes your future by shaping your heart. If you don't know what you want, I don't know if you'll allow God to begin to shape your heart. God wants to shape what you want by shaping what you long for. Verse 52, "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately He received His sight and followed Jesus along the road. What did He say? If you brought your Bible, I want you to circle your faith, your faith. Church, I love the vision where God is taking us, but what if your faith was able to heal psychological wounds? What if your faith was able to drive you into the Word of God and give you a hunger that you never had before? What if your faith was able to make a stand and be able to preach the gospel? What if your faith, your faith by proxy brought healing for someone else with your faith? What faith do you have? And are you crying out and saying, "Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me? What do you want God to do for you that you can't do for yourself? If Jesus walked down this aisle or popped in on YouTube right now and He asked you, "What do you want me to do for you that would prove to you that I am God? What do you want me to do for you that would declare to the world that I am here?" He's there in the Miss, and guess what? There's more than three people up in this mug, and there's more than that on YouTube. He's here. So, if Jesus is walking the aisles, and he's asking you what do you want, what do you say? What do you mean? And that's my fear. We don't respond. We think everything's rhetorical. I didn't come here for a monologue.
God wants to have a dialogue with you. So, I ask, if Jesus said, what do you want me to do for you, what are you gonna say? Heal my family. Miss Pat, I believe that your grandson, who is nonverbal will speak in the name of Jesus. What do you want? What do you want Jesus to do for you? Bring more people to him. May God give you the gift of evangelism, Daisy, I know that's your voice. Ooh, am I a shepherd? 'Cause a shepherd knows his sheep's voice. I know Pat, oh, I know Daisy. Oh, listen, try me, try me, someone else. Say it loud and proud. Ooh, I want the highest level of love in a partner, Lord Jesus, bring her her boas. All the single men need to look around, all right. What do you want Jesus to do for you, church? Wisdom. Freedom from my abuse, the name of Jesus. So church, right now, it's the worship team, doesn't come up and say, I want you to sit, and I want you to write down, I want you to wrestle. On this vision Sunday, God give me vision from my life. Spirit of living God in this moment of silence, no fanfare, no spectacular thing. Will you speak in a still, small voice? Because you're asking us this question.
And in this Ryan Gosling moment of frustration, you're asking us, what do you want me to do for you? What do you want? Maybe declare boldly what you are inviting us to step into, to be the glory. (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) (silence) Before we close out service, Sunday's been a little bit different. But I'm going to hijack this moment. We got one service, it's kind of awesome. And hijacks service are going to get people baptized. But I'm just going to keep on speaking what I want to see in this house. I want men of the house to rise up like priests and kings and prophets. I want women of this house to rise up and lead. I want to see this duality between men and women young and old, light and dark, educated and educated, wealthy and unwealthy, to be able to serve together and build together and believe together. I want this church to be a hotbed of revival. And our staff can,
stop, then you do that. What you're hearing me say is, you are the minister here. Welcome, church. Welcome. And so if there is a ministry call upon you, if you feel like the Lord is asking you and inviting you to step in, that could be vocational ministry, that could be full time ministry. I don't know. That's between you and God. But I would like to do before we transition and step into worship, is I want to pray for those who feel called to ministry. Maybe this is not your home church. I would still like to pray with you. I'd like to pray for you and pray over you. If that is you, men and women, young and old, child or elderly, I would like to invite you to stand to your feet. And we're going to have a spiritual impartation that those who feel called to serve the people of God, that the Lord would give them vision, that the Lord would provide finance. The Lord would all give doors of opportunity, that they will not wait for someone to tap them on the shoulder because it's happening right now. Tap, tap, tap. Baby, I'm tapping you. You're in. Come on. Start a community group. Let's go to leadership school. Let's go to seminary. I don't know what the Lord wants to do. But I'm tapping you on the shoulder saying, get in. It's time. If you are seated next to somebody who is standing, will you do me a favor? Will you stand and put your hand on their shoulder? Welcome to church. You're going to do some ministry. On the shoulder, don't be weird. If it's on the waist and there's single, you're going to be kicked out. Keep it on the shoulder. Yes. Praise God. Yeah. And I would love for you just right now in your own words to begin to pray faith and pray spiritual gifts and the fruit of the spirit and gifts of the spirit over these men and women. Don't be shy. It's all good. Guess what? You're the minister now. I want you to put into
action the gift of faith. We are going to prophesy which means you speak life. We're going to be speaking life over these men and women, young and old, online and in this room who feel called to ministry. And so I'm going to invite the worship team up and we're going to transition. But right now I'm praying, spirit of the living God for every man, woman and child who is on their feet believing that they are called to ministry, called to teach the Word of God, to preach the Word of God, to evangelize to the loss, to be apostles, to be prophets, to step into the role as prophet priests or king. Lord, I pray that the young men will dream dreams and the old men will receive visions. I'm praying that the women will prophesy and the men will prophesy. I'm praying that days of peace and joy to our just the beginning. Let this house be a house that you trust us with your spirit. I pray, Lord, God, that you give us wisdom as pastors, to disciple, to train, to teach people the Word of God. I pray for a spiritual impartation, Lord, God, for pastors in the room. I pray for teachers in the room, Lord, God. I pray for church planters in the room that today is a day that was marked suddenly that they realize that there is a call upon their life. For those who have been struggling with vision but they sense this as a ministry call, will you give them their next step, Lord, God? Will you bring a man or a woman, a pastor, a teacher, a community group leader that's going to encourage them to continue to chase after your will, to chase after your call? I pray for people who are watching online, part of our online family, that you move to California. Oh, it's expensive. Oh, the politics. All of it is true and we need you because we need Jesus. Move to Southern California. Let's
see God open up heaven and it's going to happen when the people of God stand in faith and begin to open their mouth and declare, He is the God of the Old Testament. He's the God of the New Testament. He's the God of today and He wants to use me. So revere church, can we revere God's mighty name? Will you raise your hands and surrender to a good God who is imparting vision to the blind? Let's worship Him church in spirit and truth. Can you give God your very best praise church? Can you give God your very best praise? Raise the hallelujah. Raise the hallelujah. Let's worship Him.
