Tyler Sain - Evangelism
God has not only done something in you. He wants to work through you. In this Foundations session, Tyler Sain explains the Great Commission and how sharing Jesus can become a natural part of your everyday life. Evangelism is not about having the perfect words, forcing a conversation, or becoming someone you are not. It begins with prayer, genuine love for people, and a willingness to follow the Holy Spirit wherever God sends you. You will learn how to listen, build trust, share the good news clearly, pray with someone, and help them take their next steps. Whether you are at work, on the train, in a restaurant, or walking through your neighborhood, Jesus can use your story to bring hope, healing, and transformation to someone who needs Him.
It is such a joy for me to be teaching on the topic of the Great Commission, sharing Jesus, preaching the good news, living for Jesus and souls everywhere God sends us. For the Bible says, "He who wins souls is wise." You have given your life to Jesus. You are understanding who Jesus really is. You are understanding that the Holy Spirit now lives within you, and you are understanding the power of prayer. God has done a work in you, and now he desires to do a work through you. Jesus has such a great purpose for your life, and part of that great purpose is the Great Commission, sharing Jesus so that lost and hurting people are saved, healed, set free, and made strong followers of Jesus Christ. Say this with me. Jesus wants to work through me to share the good news. In the Bible, the Gospel accounts, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, are what Jesus began to do and to teach. Now Jesus continues to do and teach through believers like you and believers like me. Jesus said that the same works that I have done, you shall do also in even greater works you will do. Jesus said, "Just as the Father sent me, "I am sending you same anointing, "same power, same Holy Spirit, "for Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
My friend, being a Christian living for Jesus and souls is the most miraculous life, the most joyful life, because you are involved in doing God's work here upon the earth, people coming to Jesus. That is powerful. As you embrace the truth from this teaching, it will transform your life, and you will be empowered to share Jesus with boldness, with love, and without fear. God put on my heart about 10 years ago to not let an entire day go by without sharing the good news or praying with at least one person. This radically changed my life. No matter what responsibilities I have in ministry as an evangelist or with my family, I make it a point to share Jesus or pray with someone every day. This has blessed my prayer life, my family, and so many areas of my life, and we are so thankful to Jesus. What is the great commission? Jesus tells us go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He also says go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even till the end of the age. Jesus is with us to share the gospel,
and if God before us, who can be against us? I was in India preaching at a gospel crusade. I met a young lady very briefly in the food line at a restaurant. I had to fly from this place to another place in India, and then from the second location all the way back to America. As I'm going through the airport at the second location, a woman comes up behind me and says, excuse me, were you at this restaurant in the other place in India the other day? I said, yes, it was the same person. This is in two different locations in a country with over 1.3 billion people. I said, if God wants me to talk to anyone, it has to be this young lady. She was getting married to someone from Nepal and having three different wedding ceremonies. I shared Jesus with her. She gave her life to Jesus, and he gets all the glory. Evangelism, the great commission, is when God sees someone who needs him, and God sees someone who's willing to share him, and he gets those two people together. There are three main points, the heart of the great commission, the how-tos of the great commission, and the Holy Spirit of the great commission. The first point is the heart of the great commission. If we have the right heart,
we can add the how-tos a little bit later. What motivated Jesus is what will motivate us to share the good news. If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. If you have given your life to Jesus, you are ready to share the good news with others. The first point is the person of Jesus. Everything that we need to share the good news is found in Jesus Christ and relationship with him. The Bible says the Lord is our shepherd, and we lack nothing. The Bible says that we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Know that you are prepared. Number two is people. There are multitudes of people in America, and throughout the world, who have never heard a clear presentation of the gospel, and who Jesus really is. When you see someone, your heart should burn on the inside of you, that this man, woman, boy, or girl comes to know Jesus Christ. We are motivated because of so many people who desperately need Jesus. That's the heart of the gospel, loving Jesus and loving people.
Number three is places. In nearly every place, at our jobs, at the store, at the gym, at a restaurant, on the phone, traveling, on the plane, in public transit, in New York City, there is someone who needs Jesus. How do we see that homeless person? How do we see our coworkers? We can see every person as someone for whom Jesus died, who they can become with Jesus. For for his passion, the love of God for people. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit has shed abroad the love of God in our hearts. The Bible says that love never fails. Jesus was moved with compassion because he loves people. The love of God will drive out all fear out of your life so that you can share Jesus with boldness. When you love people, you will have an intense passion to share the good news and do whatever it takes for people to know Jesus. Number five is purpose. What is our purpose? The Bible teaches that one of our main purposes is the harvest, souls coming to Jesus. Our purpose is the purpose of Jesus. I have come to seek and to save the lost. Just as the Father sent me, I am sending you. People coming to Jesus, that is our purpose. In Acts chapter five, the Bible says that the believers never ceased teaching and preaching that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Savior. Number six is the word price. What happens to sheep without a shepherd? They get lost. They get malnourished and they eventually die. Everyone is going to spend eternity in one of those two places, either heaven or hell. That is the truth.
That is reality. This should motivate us to share Jesus with urgency. Look at people in the lot of eternity. Number seven is the word prayer. Jesus leads the disciples to pray. Say this with me. God answers prayer. Jesus told the disciples, "Pray that the Lord of the harvest would send out laborers or soul winners into his harvest field." Who did Jesus send out? The same disciples who prayed were sent out to share the good news, to heal the sick, and to make Jesus known. Spending time with Jesus gives us a desire to share the good news, to heal the sick, to love people, and to help people. It's time to pray. Lastly, number eight is the word power. Say God has given me power. The Holy Spirit is with us and gives us the power to live like Jesus, to love like Jesus, and to share the good news of Jesus. Everywhere he sends us, never let the fear of people or the fear of failure hold you back. While I was in Florida for church services, I was staying in a hotel. I saw this man across the lobby of the hotel. God put him very strongly on my heart. I said, "God bless you," and started talking with him. I found out that he was a long distance truck driver. He was going through one of the most difficult seasons in his life. He was thinking about committing suicide. So I began telling him how Jesus could help him. People are hurting.
This man gave his life to Jesus right then and there. Only Jesus can do that. I followed up with him and he's doing so much better. God transformed his life as he encountered the good news of Jesus. That is the heart of the Great Commission, a precious soul coming to Jesus. Number one, the heart of the Great Commission. Number two is the how-tos of the Great Commission. The first point is the word prayer. Always remember this, all successful evangelism starts with prayer because all successful evangelism starts with God. God convicts. God draws people to Jesus. God forgives. God heals and God sets people free. It's all Jesus. I do my best to stay in prayer all throughout the day. I call this practicing the presence of Jesus. Being constant in prayer and being led by the Holy Spirit. Jesus knows everything about everything and he has all power. God knows who he wants to bless through your life. Number two is go with expectation. The Bible says this is the confidence we have in approaching God. That if we ask anything according to us, will he hears us? And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have, what we asked of him. This scripture changed my life. God's will is to save people. God's will is to use us to share the good news of Jesus. Never doubt that. That is God's will.
We can expect God to use us and to save people. In the last 10 years, there has not been one day when I prayed for God to bring someone into my life that God didn't answer. He has always answered that prayer. We can go with expectation. Number three is the word relate. The apostle Paul said I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. Not that Paul compromised, but he understood love and related to people. for the purpose of people coming to know Jesus Christ. Find out ways to relate to people. Tell people who you are so they can trust what you say. Share what Jesus has done in your life. Ask questions, how are you? Where are you from? Be a good listener. It's important that people understand that you care for them. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. We want to relate to people and show them that we understand what it's like to be in pain, but Jesus can help them. Number four is to speak truth. Don't worry about saying everything perfectly. Always remember it's the good news that is the power of God into salvation. It is the working of the Holy Spirit. Simply speak what God puts on your heart. I tell people when I saw you, God put you on my heart.
Then I usually tell them who I am so that we can start a conversation. I tell them the truth. I was talking to three young people at a gas station. Two of them were very open to the gospel and one was not. I talk with them about Jesus and then prayed for them. When I was praying, God told me some specific details about a young lady who was very resistant. When I finished praying, they asked, how did you know that? I said, I didn't know that, but Jesus knew that. I simply shared what God put in my heart. They prayed to give their life to Jesus and only God can do that. Number five is good news. We have really, really good news to share. Practice and learn how to share the gospel in simplicity, in love and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Remember these three points when explaining the good news. Number one, everyone is a sinner in need of Jesus. Number two, Jesus died in our place on the cross for all of our sins. He was buried, rose from the dead and appeared again. Jesus is alive today. Number three, that we are saved by trusting in Jesus Christ, by grace and through faith alone. I would highly recommend going back and listening to how Pastor Tim shares the ABCs of salvation and praise for people at the end of each service. This will greatly help you.
Number six, say Jesus. This is one of the most exciting parts about sharing the good news. This is when we pray with someone to give his or her life to Jesus. Whether I talk to someone for 30 seconds, 30 minutes or 30 hours, my intense desire is that this person comes to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. As the Bible says, we want to make the most of every opportunity. We want to ask this person if we can pray with them to give their life to Jesus, to be born again, to know that heaven is their home and to experience God's best in their life. When I ask to pray with them, the great majority of the time, the person I'm talking to prays to give their life to Jesus and that's by the working of the Holy Spirit. Number seven is follow the Holy Spirit. God confirms his word when we are sharing the gospel. Once someone gives their life to Jesus, I like to ask them if there's anything specific that I can pray for in their life. Sometimes it's a sickness, a challenge, provision, the need of clarity or an addiction. I want to explain to them that Jesus is able to heal them, to set them free and to meet any need in their life. Then number eight, follow up, rejoice and move on. I recommend letting them know about Times Square Church,
having them send the text that they have given their life to Jesus or recommending a good church close by where they live. Rejoice if they've prayed to give their life to Jesus, you are looking at a new person. All of heaven, rejoice is over just one person who repents and gives their life to Jesus. Rejoice even if they don't pray. Rejoice because you are obedient to share the good news and you were able to sow the love of Jesus into their life. Then move on because more people need Jesus. On a Sunday, I noticed a young man with crutches in the Times Square area. God put him on my heart. I started talking with him and one of his friends. I share with him the good news of Jesus. By God's grace, they prayed to give their lives to Jesus. The young man who had crutches had been hit by a vehicle. I then asked the young man, "Do you believe that Jesus can heal you in this next moment?" He said, "Yes." So I laid my hands on his leg as the Bible tells us to do, commanded his leg to be healed in Jesus name and I stood up. He was completely healed. I took the crutches away and he started walking around. See, the greater miracle is the young man giving their lives to Jesus, being born again, receiving eternal life. However, Jesus can meet every need as he has moved with compassion for people.
Jesus gets all the glory. Now finally, number three, the Holy Spirit of the Great Commission. The Bible says God speaking through John the Baptist, that when he comes, that is Jesus, he will baptize us with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Jesus said, "You shall receive power "when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, "and you will be my witnesses, "living expressions The only way that we can effectively share the gospel is by the working of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who enables us to live like Jesus, to love like Jesus, and to share the good news of Jesus. There is so much joy in knowing that Jesus is fulfilling his great commission through us by the working of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will keep you focused on that which is most important. A good thing becomes a bad thing if it keeps you from the best thing. The best is living for Jesus and living for souls, being about the great commission. The Holy Spirit will empower you, encourage you, enable you, and give you creative ways to share Jesus with others. God is going to use you in such a powerful way. God is raising up believers who will not back down, but will do what God has called them to do. God will use you to preach the gospel, to heal the sick, and to help people. As led by the Holy Spirit, Jesus wants to accomplish his works through you. As the Bible says, very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the same works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father. That is by the working of the Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus, I pray a blessing over every person who watches this teaching. By the working of the Holy Spirit, I pray that they would have an intense passion for souls, like a fire shut up in their bones, to share Jesus every day and as a lifestyle. I commend every hindrance and all fear to leave them in Jesus' name. May every person be used to share the good news, to heal the sick, and to do what you've called them to do. May every person walk in the fullness of who you've created them to be. In Jesus' name, Amen. God bless you my friend. Rejoice. God can use you in a powerful way.
