True repentance involves a real change of heart, leading to a complete

change of mind, which in turn leads to a change of direction–away from

sin and toward the Father. In our new direction, if we temporarily stumble,

we do not let the enemy’s lies convince us to turn permanently back to our

old direction. Instead, we quickly confess our sin (1 John 1:9), and we allow

the Holy Spirit to empower and encourage us to get up and continue on

the right path towards the Father. True repentance has evidence of a

permanently changed direction, and a significantly changed life.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Take some quiet time to consider if you have truly repented of your old

ways. Are you cooperating with the Holy Spirit as He leads you daily on

the right path? Was there ever a time when you were truly sorrowful

for your sin and told God about it? Did you change your direction away

from sin to determinedly walk towards God? When you stumble do you

get up quickly, repent and keep headed the right direction?
