And last week we learned that God will meet you at the level of your thirst. If you're thirsty for more of God, you will be filled with more of God. You have as much of God as you currently desire. If you have a little of God, it's because you have a little thirst for God. If you have a lot of God, it's because you have a big thirst for God. Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 13 says,
you will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. If you seek God with a little of your heart, you'll get a little filling. If you seek God with half your heart, you'll get a half filling. If you seek God with all of your heart, you will get filled full of the power of the Holy Spirit. You are as filled with as much of God as you currently desire. If you want more, you got a thirst for more. We talked about that last week. If you missed last Sunday's message, please go on YouTube and watch the message week one of Holy Thirst. In 2015 through 2017, Cape Town, South Africa faced three years of unprecedented drought. It culminated early in 2018 as this major city teetered on the edge of what was called Day Zero. Day Zero was the date officials warned that the city's water would be completely shut off. If Day Zero occurred, it would have impacted the entire city of Cape Town. It would have been the first major city in the world to run out of water in the municipal supply. So the city required residents to collect only 50 liters of water per day per person. That's not very much water. The average American uses 300 to 380 liters per day. So each person in Cape Town, South Africa only had about five liters for drinking and cooking, 10 liters per day for hand washing and face washing, 15 liters for showering, 10 liters for toilet flushing, 10 liters for laundry or cleaning. And then in June 2018, how many know June's always a good month? It's the month I was born in. Glory to God, it's a good month. It was in June 2018, the city finally received significant rain and they started to get out of Day Zero. By September 2018, the daily water restriction of 50 liters per day was finally lifted from the city of Cape Town, South Africa. And a lot of Christians are experiencing their own spiritual drought. They're experiencing a spiritual Day Zero. Some of you have just enough of the Holy Spirit operating your life just to barely get by each day. And God does not want you living your life with just a little filling of the Holy Spirit. Can I tell you what God's... God's will for your life is for you to be full of the power of the Holy Spirit. Not your flesh, full of the power of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians chapter 5 and verse 18 says, Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead be filled, every location shout, filled. Filled with the Spirit. Church, don't settle for just a little of the Holy Spirit working in your life when you can be filled full of the Holy Spirit. Here's my prayer. My prayer today is that you will become thirsty for the Holy Spirit to fill every area of your heart and your life. Today I want us to study the very first time the Holy Spirit was poured out on the day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. And I want to teach you six keys to being filled full of the Holy Spirit. Six keys to being filled full of the Holy Spirit. I want us to study the early church that was filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter 2. If you have your Bible, open it up to Acts chapter 2. We're going to dive into the scripture today. And then I want you to notice the church in Acts 2, we're going to see that they were filled with the Holy Spirit. But if you know your Bible, they continue to be filled all throughout the book of Acts with the power of the Holy Spirit. It was essential for the early believers to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. And I submit to us today, it's just as essential for you and I to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. And the first thing that you need to understand is that salvation is your starting point. Acts chapter 1 and verse 15, it says, in those days, Peter stood
up among the believers. A group numbering 120 stood among the believers. Peter stood up and spoke to a group of believers. They were already Jesus' followers. Let me give you some important theology. In salvation, every single person is immediately sealed with the Holy Spirit. You find this in Ephesians chapter 1, verse 13. And you were also included in Christ when you heard the message of faith, of the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believe, when you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. So, when every single Christian gives their life to Christ, at that very moment, nobody has to lay hands on you, nobody has to pray for you. No, no, no. At that very moment, you're sealed with the Holy Spirit. Because Jesus had already resurrected from the dead. There are some scholars that believe the disciples received their salvation experience in John chapter 20 and verse 22. And this is where it says Jesus breathed on them. Receive the Holy Spirit, Jesus said. And some theologians believe when Jesus breathed on the disciples and said receive the Holy Spirit, this was their salvation experience where they were sealed with the Holy Spirit. And then in Acts 2, they had a second experience where they were filled or baptized with the Holy Spirit. Today, my goal is not to dive into did they or did they not receive the Holy Spirit in John 20.
That's not really what I want to teach you on today. The main thing I want you to understand is that being filled and refilled with the Holy Spirit is for every Christian. It's for every single believer. Salvation is the starting line. Let me teach you today. Salvation is the starting line. And the reason I call it the starting line is because salvation begins our journey with the Holy Spirit. It doesn't end it. If the only experience that you have had with the Holy Spirit was when you got saved, you may be experiencing a spiritual drought. Some of you find yourself no longer on fire for God. Some of you have lost your passion for Jesus. Some of you are experiencing a spiritual day zero. And you desperately need to be filled with more of the Holy Spirit. Just like your body needs food, you need more of the Holy Spirit. Just like a flower needs more sun, you need more of the Holy Spirit. more of the Holy Spirit. Just like a car needs more gas, you need more of the Holy Spirit. Just like the land needs more water, you need to keep being filled with more of the Holy Spirit to have the power you need to be a witness and to live your life for Jesus. Ephesians 5, 18 says, be filled with the Spirit. The phrase be filled in the Greek is in the present tense. So it literally means keep being filled, continue being filled,
be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. It's an ongoing action. So at salvation, we're sealed with the Spirit. But after salvation, God's word tells us to continually be filled again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again with the Holy Spirit. The great Billy Graham said, we are not filled once for all like a bucket. Instead, we are to be filled constantly. The famous 19th century American evangelist D.L. Moody was once asked, why do you talk about being filled with the Holy Spirit so much? D.L. Moody responded, because I leak. I relate to D.L. Moody, y'all. I leak. My flesh tries to take control of my life. Who knows what I'm talking about, huh? Like my flesh tries to take control. There have been seasons I've lost my passion for God. So I need to be filled with the Holy Spirit over and over again, or my flesh will take control. Salvation is just the starting point. The second thing that you need to know is you need to obey Jesus and his word to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The early church was filled with the Holy Spirit because they obeyed Jesus.
Let's go back. We're looking at Acts chapter one, Acts chapter two, the day of Pentecost. It says in Acts chapter one, verse four and five, on one occasion, while he was eating with them, this is talking about Jesus, Jesus gave them this command. He told his disciples, do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my father promised, which you have heard me speak about. He'd been talking about the Holy Spirit, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, then filled with the Holy Spirit. He said, for John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Then in verse 12, the scripture says, the apostles obeyed Jesus, went to Jerusalem in an upper room where they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Think about this. If they did not obey Jesus, we're not going back to Jerusalem, we're not going to the upper room, we're not obeying him. They would have missed out on that upper room blessing. Obedience to God is key to being filled with more of God. Obedience to God is key to being filled with more of God. A lot of Christians want to be filled with more of God, but they also want to live in disobedience to God.
You cannot expect to be filled with more of God, with more of the power and presence of the Holy Spirit while you deliberately choose to disobey God. Psalm 66 verse 18 says, if I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. Some of you are cherishing sin in your heart, and it's hindering you from receiving more of God. You know you need to stop having sex with your boyfriend or girlfriend. You know y'all need to quit living together, like you know it. You know you need to stop looking at pornography. You know you need to stop lying and gossiping and backbiting and cheating. Like you know you need to get water baptized. You know you need to be generous with your time, talent, and treasure. Like you know you need to forgive that person. And disobedience is hindering some of you from receiving more of the power of the Holy Spirit in your life. And I believe that today is the day for you to repent, to turn and go the other way, and to start obeying God's word so you can experience more of God, more of his presence, more of his spirit. The third thing I want us to understand about being filled with the power of the Holy Spirit is you need to ask God to fill you.
Those disciples obeyed Jesus. They went to the upper room in Acts chapter number one. We see Acts one and two. They went to the upper room in Jerusalem so they could be baptized in the Holy Spirit. And when they got to the upper room, the scripture says they began to pray. Acts chapter one, verse 14, they all joined together constantly in prayer along with the women and Mary, the mother of Jesus and with his brothers. So they knew Jesus told them they were going to be filled with the Holy Spirit, go to the upper room. You're going to be filled with the Holy Spirit. So they were in that upper room and they were praying and they were asking Jesus to fill them with the Holy Spirit, to baptize them in the Holy Spirit. At salvation you're automatically sealed. At salvation, you're sealed, everybody said, sealed. You automatically sealed with the Holy Spirit at salvation. But to be filled with the Holy Spirit, you need to ask God to fill you. You don't have to ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit of salvation, no, you just prayed the prayer of salvation, you're sealed with the Holy Spirit. But when it comes to being filled with the Holy Spirit, ask God to fill you.
They were praying, they were asking Luke chapter 13, chapter 11, verse 13, Jesus said this, if you then though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him. Salvation, sealed, ask to be filled. Salvation, sealed, ask to be filled. Salvation, sealed, ask to be filled. You need to ask God, some of you are not being filled with the Holy Spirit because you're not asking God to fill you. I want you to begin to ask God to fill you with the power of his Holy Spirit. Number four is this, you need to fight for unity with other believers if you wanna be filled with the Holy Spirit. I don't want you to miss this, the early church was filled with the Holy Spirit because they were unified. Acts chapter one, verse 14, they all joined together constantly in prayer. They were together in unity praying. Acts chapter two, verse one, when the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. They were together praying. People hinder being filled with the power of the Holy Spirit because they don't value and strive to live in unity with other believers.
Ephesians chapter four, verse three says this, make every effort. Are you doing that? Some of you on the way to church today, you weren't making every effort. You was causing chaos right there with your own families. Lord, fill me. You're acting like the devil. Lord, fill me. Look at you. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Make every effort. What does it look like to make every effort? What Paul tells us, he goes on to tells us later in chapter number four, Ephesians four, verse 29, he says, do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Guess this. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God with whom you were sealed, we talk sealed, salvation, sealed for the day of redemption. How do I grieve the Holy Spirit of God? Verse 31, get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, slander, along with every form of malice.
Be kind and compassionate. Because if you don't, you're grieving the Holy Spirit. Be kind and compassionate to one another. Forgiving each other so I don't grieve the Holy Spirit just as in Christ God forgave you. And some of you are not being filled with more of the Holy Spirit, because you're grieving the Spirit with bitterness, and rage, and anger, and brawling, slander, and malice. Psalm chapter 133, verse one and two says this, how good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity. Now right here it starts talking about the Holy Spirit, the anointing of the Holy Spirit. It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down on the collar of his robe. The precious oil represents the Holy Spirit. Understand this church, unity creates an environment where the Holy Spirit can work, move, and flow. When God's people lay down pride, forgive, lay down offenses, and pursue oneness, the oil of God's presence begins to flow and fill people's lives. The anointing. flows where unity grows. The anointing flows where unity grows. I'll give me a little rap beat somebody. The anointing flows where unity grows. Some of you are hindering the flow, like you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit, but you're hindering the flow of the Holy Spirit in your whole life because your heart is full of disunity. You're grieving the Holy Spirit instead of being
filled with the Holy Spirit, and you need to stop the disunity and start pursuing unity so you can be full and filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. Number five is this. Let me give you a fifth lesson on how to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. You need to wait on God. Waiting is becoming increasingly challenging in our culture. It's becoming increasingly challenging for your pastor. Our society prides itself on speed. We love speed. We're always in a rush. You talk to people, what do you do? I'm busy. What you mean? I'm busy. Busy, busy. We're impatient. If we can't get on wi-fi immediately, we get upset. If we google or chat GPT something and it doesn't give us the information within seconds, we're frustrated. If someone doesn't respond to our text message quickly, we think we're suffering persecution because everything needs to happen right now. We're a right now culture. Right now. Right now, wi-fi. Right now, app. Download. Right now. Download. Right now. Right now, maps. Give me the directions to where I'm trying to go. Right now. Right now, I need to check my bank account on my phone. Right now. Right now, I want to listen to that podcast. Right now. Play. Play song. Play. But church, when it comes to pursuing more of God, oh man, our culture is messing with us because we got to learn to wait on the Lord. Psalm 27 verse 14. Wait for the Lord. Be strong and let your heart take curse. Wait for the Lord. Lamentations chapter 3 verse 25 and 26. The Lord is good to those who wait for him. To the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. Micah chapter 7 verse 7. But as for me, I will look to the Lord. I will wait for the God of my salvation. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. And then Jesus tells his disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit. Acts chapter 1 verse 4. Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait. You can't wi-fi this up quickly. You can't map it quickly. You can't text message and download it quicker. Wait for the gift my father promised, which you've heard me speak about. Don't leave. Wait. If you want what I have for you, wait in that upper room. If you want to be filled with more of the Holy Spirit, you go up there and wait. You wait on the Lord. And verse 14. Verse 14 says this. They prayed constantly. Acts 1 verse 14. They prayed constantly. Not occasionally. They waited on God. They waited. Prayer and praise. And just like the disciples waited in prayer for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit church, we need to learn to wait in prayer
for God to fill us full of the Holy Spirit. We got to learn this. All of us. Because of the way our culture has wired us. We got to learn to wait in prayer. Wait in worship. Wait in praise. We got to learn to wait with hands lifted. Some of y'all start worshiping in two minutes like, Lord Jesus, we got to move on Lord. We got to. You got to learn to wait. Like don't be in a rush to leave Sunday services early. Wait on God. Like our service is not three and a half hours long. Come on somebody. Some of y'all can't wait. But a salvation altar call, I got to get up out of here boy. Ready, set, hour and seven minutes. But you wonder why you're not being filled. Like I'm just wanting to help you. Like if it's just your spirit's always in a hurry, you got to learn to wait on God. The old saints, I'm starting to become one of them, but I'm not there yet y'all. I'm not there yet. But the old saints, Called it tarrying before the Lord We have to learn to tarry. We got to learn to wait on the Lord Can I tell you revival nights is one of the intentional times in our church where we create space for you to wait on the Lord Because we don't have multiple services going on We got one service in my last hour to have two hours three hours four hours God shows up at revival nights in powerful ways because people are hungry and they press in and we take time and we wait In the presence of God church, please please take advantage just I'm telling you take advantage of seeking and waiting on God at Revival nights God wants to fill you with more and it may not happen in an hour and ten minutes service But we do create opportunities 21 days of prayer. We do create opportunities revival night We do create opportunities where we say, you know, we're gonna do we are here to wait on God to seek God's presence But some blessings church only happen when you learn to wait on the Lord Somebody turned to your neighbor and say that app is messing with you. Wait on the Lord Go ahead and let them know. Yeah, that phone is messing with you You can't get everything immediately You better learn to wait Some of y'all gonna still go try to sneak out of church earlier today, that's all right I'm not bad at you. I'm just trying to help you get more of the Holy Spirit. That's it. You gotta learn to wait Number six is this number six number six. You need to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit by faith by faith
All of God's blessings are received by faith in Jesus Let me teach you a lot of Christians even mature Christians don't understand this all of God's blessings are received by faith in Jesus salvation is received by faith You get water baptized by faith you obey God's Word by faith you receive every blessing God has for your life by faith I think about the faith of those first disciples of Jesus in Acts 1 They went to the upper room in Jerusalem by faith They prayed every day By faith, they asked God to fill them full of the Holy Spirit by faith every day They waited and waited by faith and then they received the Holy Spirit by faith It says this in Acts chapter 2 verse 4 all of them were filled With the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit Enabled them they prayed They asked they waited and they were filled with the Holy Spirit by faith they spoke in tongues by Faith when the Bible says they spoke in tongues as the Spirit enabled them It's not saying the Holy Spirit forced them to speak in tongues. Can I take the Holy Spirit? It's a gentleman the Holy Spirit doesn't force us those disciples had to surrender to the Holy Spirit But they also had to open up their mouth and speak out the words the Spirit gave them Understand this every gift and blessing we receive from God is by Faith Let's talk about salvation. The Holy Spirit draws you to Jesus But the Holy Spirit won't force you to become a Christian You have to surrender to the Holy Spirit and you have to pray the prayer of salvation the Holy Spirit draws you But you have to pray that prayer the blessing of being filled and refilled with the Holy Spirit also happens by faith It happens by faith you pray and you receive by faith Another example is in Acts chapter 8 when these new believers received more of the Holy Spirit by faith Let's just do a quick detour to Acts chapter 8 Says in verse number 14 when the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the Word of God They were Christians. They accepted the Word of God
They sent Peter and John to Samaria when they arrived they prayed for the new believers notice their new believers So they're sealed with the Holy Spirit Ephesians 1 13 As soon as you accept Jesus you're sealed you're marked with the Holy Spirit It said that they might receive the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit had not come on any of them They had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord you they were sealed But the Holy Spirit that had been filled they were not baptized yet in the Holy Spirit. They were just sealed then Peter and John placed their hands on them and They received the Holy Spirit Peter and John placed their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit This is not talking about some salvation. Nobody has to lay their hands on you to receive the Holy Spirit and salvation You're immediately sealed with the Holy Spirit of salvation But the Bible does teach that people can lay hands on us and you can study this on your own People can lay hands on us See it in the book of James chapter 5 people can lay hands on us and pray for us to be healed to receive a miracle and to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. And these believers, these Christians were filled with the Holy Spirit by faith. We see the same thing happen in Acts chapter 19. You receive more of the Holy Spirit by faith. But you have to want more of the Holy Spirit. You can just be satisfied with being sealed. If you want more of the Holy Spirit, you actually have to be thirsty for more of God's power. You currently have as much of God as you want. If you're full of the flesh instead of the Holy Spirit, it's not God's fault. If you come near to God, God will come near to you. If you're in a spiritual drought, if you're experiencing a spiritual day zero, it's because you've lost your spiritual thirst for God. Today is your day to ask God to fill you full of His power and presence, not just to be sealed with the Spirit, but to be filled over and over and over again with the power of the Holy Spirit. Would you stand with me around
every single location? Would you stand? And come on, if you're comfortable, would you begin to lift your hands right now and just ask God to fill you full of the Holy Spirit? Would you begin to do that? If you're hungry today, would you say, God, give me more of the Holy Spirit. Fill me today, God. Maybe today you need to ask God, God, make me thirsty for more of You. Come on, every location, Midwest City, Northwest, Edmond, Indianapolis, online, the ladies at Maple Basket. Come on, ask God. God, fill this room. Fill this room with more of the Holy Spirit. Come on, let's sing it every location. Let's ask God to fill us full of the Holy Spirit. Come on, ask Him to fill you. Fill me full of the Holy Spirit, Lord. Your power. Holy Spirit. Come on, right now, every single location. Can we say, Spirit, break out. Break out in my life. Break out in my marriage. Spirit, break out in my workplace. Break out in my business. Break out in my mind. Break out in my home. Break out in my kids. Spirit, break out. Come on, Midwest City. Come on, Edmond. Come on, Northwest. Spirit, break out. Spirit, break out today. Holy Spirit, invasion today. Spirit, break out once more. Spirit, break out. Spirit, break out. Break our walls down. Oh, Spirit, Spirit break out. Let me come down. Let me come down. Oh, Spirit, Spirit break out. Oh, break our walls down. Break our walls down. Oh, Spirit, Spirit break out. Let me come down. Let me come down. Let me come down. Today, I can't lay my hands on everybody like they did in Acts 8 and Acts 19 and pray for everybody. But I do believe in the power of prayer. And I know God can move in this room, move through these cameras, and fill you right now with the Holy Spirit. If you desire to be filled full of the Holy Spirit, Pray for you just right now.
We just lift your hands right now. Let me just pray for you. Lord, every hand that's lifted at every location, I pray that you fill them full of the power of the Holy Spirit. Less of us and more of you. Less of our flesh and more of you. Less of our ideas and more of you. Less of our desires and more of the Holy Spirit. Fill us full of the Holy Spirit. Baptize us in the Holy Spirit. Fill us full, God, I pray. Right now, in the name of Jesus, we ask for Ephesians 5, 18, that we would be filled full of the power of the Holy Spirit. We leak, Lord, so we need a fresh filling. We leak, so we need you to fill us full of your power over and over again. I thank you right now for a spirit-filled and powered church. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Hallelujah. As eyes are closed and heads are just bowed wherever you are, every location you're, some of you are here today, and you are full of your flesh. You're not living for God and full of the Spirit because you're full of you. You've never given your life to Jesus.
And today, would you give your life to Jesus? There's a helper that wants to come live inside of you, the Holy Spirit. He wants to seal you today, change your life. Some of you used to live for God, but you drifted back into this world. And today, you need to come home. Would you come home today, recommit your life to God? Ask God to forgive you and to fill you full of his power and say, God, I repent of my sins today, and I'm gonna live my life to please you. If that's you today, you wanna be saved, give your life to Jesus for the first time, or you wanna recommit your life, you know you're in sin, you know you're deliberately disobeying God, you know you're not living for God, and you wanna come back home today, shoot your hand high in the air as I count to three, and I'm gonna lead you in a prayer to say yes to Jesus. One, two, three. Would you lift your hand high right now? See your hand there, see your hand there. Others, see your hand there, see your hand there. Come on, Midwest City, Northwest, Edmond, come on, let's lift it high, Mabel Bassett. Come on, online, just click that's me, that's me. Just click the salvation button on the right, that's me in the chat line. Somebody else, just lift it high, that's it, that's it,
that's it, I'm gonna ask every hand that's raised to pray this prayer with me. Confess it with your mouth, believe it in your heart, and God's gonna wash away your sins. Pray with me now, Heavenly Father, I turn away from my life of sin, and I turn my life over to Jesus Christ. I confess Jesus as my Lord and as my Savior. Today, I will live my life to please Jesus, and from this day forward, I declare, Jesus is my Lord and my Savior. In Jesus' name I pray, amen, and amen. Come on, give God some praise, give God some praise. You can be seated just for a moment, every location, you can be seated. We're gonna close in just a moment. Come on, would you put your hands together one more time and give God some praise right now for all that he's done. I'll turn it to all of our locations. We give you praise, God. Amen, amen. Church family, we say this every single Sunday. Come on, will you stand to your feet all across the room. We say it every single Sunday. We're what? We're family. Have a great Sunday, we'll see you next week. We'll see you next week.
