The Journey of a World Changer - Lyle Phillips
Thank you for tuning in today, thank you for tuning in every Sunday, we thank you, we appreciate you. It's great to be here. That's right. I'm JD. I have the honor and privilege of serving here on the Online Experience Team. Yes, and it's my honor, if I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you, my name is Sasha and I'm one of your new online hosts. And if I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you, it's your boy, Javon, in the studio to be your host today, guys. I feel like I should be a hype man, bro. You have so much energy. I love it. Just loving it. Let's go. Let's go. It is summer at Journey still, but it is the last Sunday, so thank you for tuning in all week. And if you haven't been watching this summer, we've had amazing, awesome messages that have been penetrating the heart and have been blessing us tremendously. Sasha, what was one of your favorite messages? For me, it was actually last Sunday with Pastor James, see the unseen. And when he said that when we feel unseen, we think that nothing's happening, but actually God is developing us within us, you know, and I think it's so important just to be reminded of that, because sometimes we get so used to like the rush, but when we're still in the waiting season, like nothing's happening, I don't see a difference, but it's actually the Lord developing us. That's awesome. I love that. How about you, Jay?
It was actually Pastor Joey. Pastor Joey had a fire message, and it really hit me with the bow when he said he has to pull you back so you could fly so much further. Man, that message really hit home. I think that one was the one for me this whole summer. That's awesome. And Pastor Joey and Pastor James are from our very in-house Journey pastors. We love you. Thank you for the message that you brought to us. One of my favorites was Pastor Aaron, one of our overseers from Reagan Church in Tampa. It was about suffering, and it was so amazing, and the fact that God put it on his heart, and he was so transparent, and you could tell that God had that on his heart for a while to just give that message to Journey. So that message definitely stood out. If you haven't watched any of them, you could subscribe to our YouTube channel, hit the notification bell. Ding! Thank you. We can't afford that bell sound, but we will get it one day, and we want you to actually subscribe, get notified of every message, every actually encounter night. We have the Wednesday night prayers now being uploaded, the preaching from those Wednesday night services. So basically subscribe, get notified. We want you to be in the know how what's going here on Journey. But awesome, man. Anything else that you love about this? Yeah, no. Like speaking about the Wednesday, like Gianna, she preached last Wednesday. I was like, what's today? I was lost.
Wednesday. And it was about healing. You see, when you're in the Word every day, you don't know what day it is. There we go. It was about healing. And I feel like, you know, that's such a human experience. So and her word was, I mean, it was 12 minutes, but it was like a strong 12 minutes. So definitely check that out. If you guys haven't had the chance to come to Prayer Wednesday. Yeah, definitely. So that's awesome when you get involved and just being in the know how again by subscribing to YouTube channel. But we have an awesome message today about our last summer at Journey Preacher. But next week we have Pastor JJ. Yes! Back in the house. Back in the house. Our lead pastors are coming back in. We pray and hope that your sabbatical, your month of rest was amazing. Thank you for setting a perfect example of what leaders are to take time, hear from God and rest. Rest is important. God rested on the same days. Very, very important. But thank you for tuning in Journey Church again. We do this for you. We thank you for tuning in. Let us know what you're doing. Let us know what your favorite part of service is. I know I love worship.
I don't know about y'all. I love worship. I love the word. I think the worship can really put me in the mood every morning. So get ready. Make some space. If you're home, clear the plate. Get your pet. Get your children. Let's get into worship. We're going to turn it over to Jaylene, our online director. She's by stage about to get you prepared for service. Be blessed, y'all. Happy Sunday, Journey Church Online. We are so happy to be here with all of you this day. Listen, a huge shout out to all of our studio hosts, JD, Javon and Sasha for welcoming us in. I'm going to put in the chat all the things that they said. Let us know what your favorite speaker has been. Let us know just how this summer has been in general. What has God been speaking to you? What have you been learning? Because we love to come alongside you and hear about all the good things that God is doing in your life. Today we have another speaker to close us out before Pastor JJ and Pastor Liz come back. And I know it's going to be a word that encourages you. And to help us step into that word, I actually want to share a verse with you that is Revelation 411. You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.
I love the end of that verse where it says, you created what you pleased. And when it's time... Talking about things that he created, I want you to know that that includes you. That you are at the top of his list of the things that he is pleased that he created. And I'm not talking about the best version of you. I'm talking about the version of you that has questions. The version of you that has regrets. The version of you that has guilt. The version of you that has shame. The version of you that has doubt. This morning he is pleased with that version of you. And so I want you to come to him as you are and give him all of your concerns. Give him all of your doubts. Give him all of your worries. Because he is pleased with you. And he wants you to just enjoy him as he is. And so I'm gonna pray to help us go into this posture as we step into worship. Lord, thank you so much, God, for creating us. Thank you for loving what you created. Thank you for not making us feel like a mess or not making us feel too far gone. But by telling us that we belong to you and that you love us. Let us receive your praise and your spirit today. In your holy name we pray, amen. Let's worship God together.

Now we actually have a special group of people called the FTG. We are so happy that you're here this morning. You are able to wake up and just be here with us. We are so glad that you are here. I hope the message really hits you today because it's gonna be a really good one and please come back. But we would actually love to come and meet you in person. So guys, welcome. And speaking of first-time guests, if you are new here or even if you have been coming here for a while and if you want to get connected, you want to know any ministries that are available to you and your family, we have what is called Next Steps. And step one is online and that's where you get to hear from our lead pastor, Pastor JJ and Pastor Liz. You get to learn about the different ministries again that are available to you and your family, how Journey Church started, our mission. So go ahead and scan that QR code and take your next step. Yes, yes. Next Steps is awesome. That's how we got here. And if you're looking to serve online, chat moderator, someone who prays for people online and you're not actually in the building or in Florida, we would love for you to actually get involved. Definitely so. We prayed for what? Serve week, right? Serve week. Serve week. Basically, it's an extension of every first Saturday that we do here at Journey. Every first Saturday of the month, we go downtown Orlando. We help feed people. We help to displace people that just need to hear the gospel, that just need someone to be there for them. So this whole week, we're going to basically be the hands and feet of Jesus, whether that's serving food, whether that's helping people at their home, whether that's partnering with local organizations and just being a blessing to everyone. So if you can, and if you want, come on down, join us. There's a lot of registrations you could actually register for. Just ask on the chat. We'd love to help you out. If any way we could get you plugged in. Right. And if you're not local and you want to serve still, go ahead and just pray, pray for us, pray for the volunteers, pray for the Lord just to bring the right people who need to be served.
And I feel like that's just another way to be able to serve if you're not local. Awesome point. Absolutely. And we got another thing coming up, the BTS, not the behind the scenes. We're talking about back to school. Back to school bashes coming up. We have a thing going on August 1st where we're having book bags, school supplies. We're having a whole day right here at Fern Park. Fern Park. And then free haircuts. Free haircuts. Please be under the age of 18. We're keeping it real with you. We're checking our age. No, we're not. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We're checking our age. But yes, definitely come out, enjoy the day and get your kids ready with the right mindset for school. Yeah, it's a blessing. Just to bless your families and parents. Yes, yes. Yeah. And last weekend, we had our first ever beach baptism. Yes, yes, let's go. We actually celebrated 131 people getting baptized for the first time. And, you know, each person had a story where they left shame behind, where things that they were carrying for a very long time, for years even. And they just be able to surrender that. And also that they wanted just to go all in for Jesus. So we celebrated each and one of those stories. And we're so blessed. And all of this is possible because of you, Journey Church, because of your generosity. So if you would like to go ahead and partner with us, go ahead and scan that QR code. And also if you wanted to find ways of how you can give. That's awesome. Awesome, Jay. Take it away. Honestly, I hope you guys share this message. Yes.
Just pass this message. Somebody might need this message. And guys, let's go into a video with Pastor JJ and Pastor Liz and get ready for the Word. Be blessed, y'all. See you guys after. See ya. Hey, Church. Welcome to Summer at Journey. Hey, my name is JJ. And alongside my wife, Liz, we have the honor and the privilege of serving Journey Church as your lead pastors. And if you didn't know that, that probably means you are a first-time guest. And if you're looking for a home church, look no further. We think you found it, not only because you are surrounded by the presence of God, but because you are also surrounded by some of the most amazing. Honest. Open. And transparent. People in all of Central Florida. Journey Church proved me right by putting your hands together for all of our first-time guests. Well, today is our final week of sabbatical. We cannot wait to be back next week with you. If you're not familiar with what that means, a sabbatical is simply an intentional season where we step away from the normal pace of ministry to rest, spend time with family, and really create space in our hearts to hear from God. And it has been such a gift to slow down, be refreshed, and prepare for all that God has ahead. If we haven't already said it enough, we just want to say thank you. Thank you for your prayers, your encouragement, and for giving us the opportunity to take this time away. One of the things that has always encouraged us about Journey is the way people show up for one another. This church has always been bigger than a pastor or a preacher or a leader. What's made it special has always been the presence of God and the people.
Every week, we see people who create welcoming environments, build relationships, serve families, pray with others, and help other people feel seen and valued. And what makes that so special is that it happens in so many different ways. Some people are greeting at the door, some are investing in the next generation, some are leading groups, and some are simply taking the time to encourage someone who's having a hard week. And as someone who's been on the other side of that encouragement more than once, these moments matter way more than you know. So can we take a moment and celebrate every person who helps make Journey a place where people can belong? And if you're still looking for your place, we'd love to help you get connected. Some of the best relationships and growth happens when you take a step beyond attending and start building community with others. Because at the end of the day, church isn't just something we go to. It's a family we belong to. Well, we are so honored to have today's speaker with us. Pastor Lyle Phillips is back at Journey. He spoke at an Encounter Night last year, and we're just so grateful to have him with us again. Lyle is the pastor of Legacy Nashville. He's really become a great friend to Pastor Liz and I and of our house, and we're so thankful for his wisdom, his leadership, his spirit-led encouragement that he brings every time that he shares. And if you know Lyle, you know he loves God's word, loves people, and is a huge fan of Disney theme parks. That's right. Him and his wife. Yes. Hey, we know you're going to be encouraged by the message God has placed on his heart for us today. So, Journey, across all of our campuses, we believe in honor. Would you please stand to your feet and help give a warm welcome to Pastor Lyle Phillips. Come on, Journey Church. Let's give it up for King Jesus. I think you can do a little bit better than that today. Jesus, we love you. Jesus, we bless you.
Jesus, we glorify you. Jesus, we exalt you. We lift your name high from this place today. You are wonderful in all of your ways. We bless you today, Lord Jesus. Man, what a great day it is to be in church. Would you agree? So good to be in the house of God. And I know it's so good to be sitting next to the person that came in with you. Why don't you turn to them, give them a handshake, a high-five, a fist bump, tell them, I am glad to be sitting next to you in church today. Once you do that, you can be seated. In Jesus' name, it is so good to be back here at Journey Church. I don't know if you guys know this or not, but you are a part of something special. If you know that, just say amen. You are a part of something special right here in Fern Park, as well as the campuses that are joining us online right now, in East Orlando, as well as Kissimmee, and everybody joining us from all over the world online. And a special shout-out to all of my friends that are incarcerated today, watching us by the Pando app. What's up, y'all? It's good to have you here. We're also on Pando in Nashville through our church, Local Church Legacy. And so, hopefully, we got some friends joining in on both channels. But what in the world is Jesus doing in Central Florida? Because this place is incredible. Would you guys agree with that? Listen, I know sometimes, like whenever you go to the same church every single Sunday, you kind of forget about how awesome the place that you worship is. But please take it from me, this country kid from West Kentucky that lives in Nashville, Tennessee,
what Jesus is building through this church here in Orlando and beyond is nothing short of supernatural. It's nothing short of miraculous. It's nothing short of a kingdom thing that God is doing. And it is our joy to be with you. I know there's so many people that participated in making this Sunday special. All of the serve team, all the servant leaders from the kids' ministry, to the parking lot, to the people who prep the coffee. Can we give it up for all the servant leaders that make this church amazing? Everybody has a part to play, and we know that it is. because of the surrender and the sacrifice of so many that church is possible. But especially, we cannot get started without a real opportunity to honor your founding lead pastors, pastors J.J. and Liz Vasquez. Come on, journey, y'all can do better than that. Let's give it up for your pastors. My friends, the legends. J.J., I call him the goat. He is the goat of preaching and sermon illustrations. Nobody does it better, can we agree? Nobody does it better. You guys are spoiled, you don't even know it. Got Pastor J.J. preaching to you every Sunday. What an incredible church. Well, today for this service at least, I've got my family here with me, y'all. We're all in Orlando. As they said, we're a fan of the house of the mouse. Got any Disney cast members in here today? Are you allowed to reveal yourself?
Okay, I don't know if you are. I don't know how it works onstage, offstage. Are you Moana? Okay, hello, all right. You could pass. It's the beaded necklace and the beautiful hair. You go, girl, let's go. My wife is here today, Allison, as well as all four of our children, Isaiah, Remy, Rua, and Ezra. Isaiah's joining your youth today, but I've got the rest of them here. Would y'all all stand up and wave at the church? Come on, Remy. Hey, that was more than a wave. That was a dance. I like that, Remy. Rua, why didn't you stand up? Can you stand up real quick, say hello? You don't want to? Okay. Yeah, Ezra, he was worshiping the entire time with his headphones on. Y'all, I've also got the privilege of hosting my parents here as well today, Jeff and Melissa Phillips. You can stand up as well, wave. Say hello to the church. And I've also got two friends here. Y'all didn't think I was gonna shout you out, but I am.
Cody and Caitlin Ternus, they used to be on staff with us at Legacy in Nashville. Then they rebelled against the Lord and moved to Florida. I'm just kidding, I'm just kidding. We blessed and sent them. They're some of our favorite people. Thank you guys for driving two hours to hang out here. We love, we love this city. We love this church. I'm here from time to time, and every time I am, I always say to myself, you know what? I think it's God's will that I have a second house in Orlando. I told Pastor JJ that this week. I said, listen, one of my friends had a dream, and he swears it was from God. And he said, I see you with a piece of property in Orlando, Florida. I said, may it be unto me, Lord, according to your word. Double house me, God, amen. I'll take it. And he said, we would love for you to do that. You just come around, journey a little bit more often. You know, just be a part of the team. I said, bro, don't tempt me, all right? I'm about to rename my church in Nashville, Tennessee to Journey Nashville. If that's what it takes, let me let you know right now. I'm all in. All I need as compensation is two annual passes.
Actually, just one, because my wife keeps one, and I always know it when that credit card bill hits. We could just all agree, though, that the Magic Band, it's not real money. Right, you know, you just, dude, it's just magic money. It don't spend the same at Disney World, and the calories don't count. Can I get two good amens? All right, let's go to the Word. We're gonna go to 1 Samuel chapter 14 today. I have a message for you. I was praying about what to preach, and I was reminded of this passage, and I thought, you know, for a church that God has aptly named Journey, I would like to talk about the journey of someone that would have a great impact for God. And the man that we're gonna study today is one of those people. His name is Jonathan. So in 1 Samuel chapter 14, verse one through 14, you can read some of the history, a single story about this warrior, this soldier, this mighty man of God named Jonathan, and his friend, this armor bearer. So I wanna read this, but if you guys would be willing to indulge me, back home in Nashville, I always have my church stand for the reading of the Word of God. Would you guys be willing to do that with me today?
I know it's a lot of scripture, but I'd love to read it out loud altogether as a family. If you're in, say, I'm in. I'm in. All right, let's read. Verse one, one day Jonathan, the son of Saul, said to the young man who carried his armor, come, let us go over to the Philistine garrison on the other side. But he did not tell his father. Saul was staying in the outskirts of Gibeah in the pomegranate cave. Now, I don't know about you, but that just tells me. He's chillin', like a pomegranate cave? That sounds comfy. Like I imagine him in a hammock with his feet kicked up and he is like sippin' a Starbucks cinnamon dolce latte and there's somebody like fanning him, you know, he's in the pomegranate cave at Gibeah. So that's Saul, he's the king, he's hangin', and the people who were with him were about 600 men, including Ahijah, the son of Ahitab, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phineh, the son of Eli, the priest of the Lord in Shiloh, whose auntie used to babysit his little nephew's cousin twice removed. You know, it's like, it's a lot of descriptors. But how many of you guys know that everything that is in the Bible is there on purpose? So we'll get to that in just a minute.
And the people did not know that Jonathan had gone and within the passage, passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over the Philistine garrison you got a rocky crag on one side. Somebody say, that's dangerous. And a rocky crag on the other side. Somebody say, that's dangerous. One was called Bozes, the other Senna. One of them rose north in front of Michmash and the other the south in front of Gibeah. Now here's where it gets really interesting. Verse six, Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. Now that's how you insult somebody biblically right there. We're gonna go get them. It may be, key word, maybe, that the Lord will work for us by nothing for nothing can hinder the Lord from saving by many or by a few. And the armor bearer then said, well do all that is in your heart, do as you wish. Behold, I am with you, heart and soul. That's how you know you got a real one right there. Then Jonathan said, well behold, we're gonna cross over and show ourselves to them. And if they say to us, wait until we come to you, then we will stand still in our place and we will not go up to them. But if they say, come on up here,
then we will know that the Lord has given them into our hand. And this is gonna be a sign. So both of them, they climbed up and showed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines. And the Philistines said, look, the Hebrews are coming out of their holes where they've hidden themselves. And the men of the garrison hailed Jonathan and his armor bearer and said, well come up to us and we will show you a thing. That's like Old Testament for it. We about to whip y'all's butt. And he says, okay, Jonathan said to the armor bearer, come up after me, for the Lord has given them into the hand of Israel. Smells like victory. Then Jonathan climbed up on his hands and his feet and his armor bearer after him and they fell before Jonathan and his armor bearer. And that first strike, which Jonathan and his armor bearer made, killed about 20 men, as it were, in half a furrow's length in an acre of land. I don't know how big that is, but it seems kinda small. And there was a panic in the camp and the field and among the people, the garrison and even the raiders trembled and the earth quaked, which I think is cool because if we do our part, God'll do his. And it became a very great panic. What I wanna do today, Journey Church,
is outline a couple of steps that you've got to take if you wanna be a world changer like Jonathan. So I titled the message, The Journey for Journey Church of a World Changer. All right, let's pray before you're seated. Lord, we thank you for your word. We know it is true, everlasting, and unchangeable, yet always faithful to change us. So we ask God, in the name of Jesus, for the power of the Holy Spirit to move throughout this church today and rest upon each and every one of us as your disciples. Transform us today, in Jesus' name we pray. And everybody said, amen. You can be seated. The journey of a world changer. Let me give you a little context for what is happening here in this story. As we outline, you've got Saul, the anointed king of God's people. I mean, this guy is anointed and appointed. He is blessed and highly favored. I mean, this is a mighty man of God, if you've ever seen one. This is the type of God that everybody recognizes as God's favorite. You look at Saul and you say, man, favor ain't fair because I ain't got it like that guy. I mean, that dude, he is the king. He is anointed.
He is large and in charge. He is God's man of power for the hour. That's his Instagram bio, by the way. But there's a problem, see. Despite the fact that Saul has been anointed to accomplish great things in the name of God, he is sitting satisfied in a stalemate. He is chilling in the pomegranate cave and he is surrounded. By 600 people Saul is a part of a megachurch basically back in the day He's got all these soldiers that he's hanging out with he's relaxing and then he's got this guy with this long list of Descriptors he's in a linen ephod and he's like you're gonna be my priest and I want you to prophesy And tell me what God is saying, but I don't want you to tell me anything. I don't want to hear I want you to tell me the thing I want to hear that makes me feel good about not doing nothing That tickles my ears and tells me I'm okay, despite the fact that I'm being disobedient Now you can't tell me that there's not a whole lot of Christians in our nation in our culture today That are living just like Saul you ask them how they're doing. They say man. I'm blessed and highly favored praise God Look at my Facebook feed man. I got so much heavy Revy. That's revelation From the word this week. I don't think you know who you're talking to baby because I got that sauce I'm the sauce boss. I Know what I'm talking about. I'm a man of God I'm doing the things that God has called me to do But if you really investigated their lifestyle and you considered what they were doing with the territory that God promised them You could see that there are Philistines in the promised land What in the world are the enemies of God? Defying God himself by occupying territory that God has promised to the people of God and Yet there he is sitting Satisfied in a stalemate. I think a lot of people find themselves in this position today Surrounded by 600 plus people and they think that because they are a part of a large crowd
That being a part of that big church will use that as an illustration Excuses their disobedience for doing nothing and Then they get around people. You can't forget Saul had access to Samuel He was the prophet who none of his words fell to the ground, but he didn't want to listen to Samuel He didn't want to listen to the preacher who had the Word of God He wanted to listen to the prophet that he had self-appointed to Mary and to Barry, you know A chaplain that was very polite and reluctant to say everything that he wanted to hear so that he could excuse his apathy I Believe that there are some people in this room today that you are saying I am sick of Sitting in the seat of Saul while Philistines are in the camp I cannot be satisfied in a stalemate with an awareness that there is a war going on and I don't know if you are aware of this or you've not been reminded of this recently, but there is a spiritual war going on There's a spiritual going on war going on in Florida, there's a spiritual war going on in our nation There's a spiritual war going on in our culture where our kids are high school kids They're dealing with so much some of our universities are going to hell in a handbasket People are suicidal and depressed and anxious and drug addicted and there's so much happening in our communities and yet so many people Who would say I am called by God to do something great for the kingdom are sitting fanning themselves in the pomegranate cave Yes, all good I'm doing something great for God well at least my pastor JJ is you know I'm just sitting here. I'm chilling man. I'm just hanging out man. I'm waiting for the team to accomplish something, but I'm okay No, if you want to be a world changer, here is the first step in your journey if you're taking notes I'd encourage you to write this down world changers refuse to sit Satisfied in a stalemate look at your neighbor. Tell them get up Look at your other neighbor the one you rejected at first and say it's time to get up. I Don't know about you But there's always been something on the inside of me that I have felt Anointed called even if I didn't use that language. I felt like I was called to make a difference And I can't always explain it if somebody were to ask me about it I wouldn't do a great job at articulating it
But even since I was a little kid growing up in this farming community of 400 people There was something deep down on the inside of me, and I said to myself. I'm meant for more Anybody else in here you'd say yeah, I know what that's like like. I'm meant for more. I'm meant to do something great for God Well if you are gonna do something great for God you're gonna have to determine that you will no longer be apathetic for the kingdom And listen a whole lot of people they're gonna have something to say about it But don't you worry about it because people who speak against you who are comfortable with? mediocrity are not the people that you need to run with any longer because you are a world changer and That's the point that Jonathan got to and he said I know that my dad is an awesome man And he's been anointed by the Prophet and called by God to to be a leader, but he is sitting in a stalemate, and I've gotta do something about these Philistines in my land. I've experienced this many times in my life. One time was when I determined to become a missionary in my early 20s. I didn't necessarily have a word from God the same way a lot of people talk about having a word. You know, when you tell people, I'm going to the nations, or I'm gonna do something great for God, or I'm gonna evangelize or help with the outreach, people ask, did God speak to you? Well, I mean, he spoke to me in Matthew chapter 28, verse 16 through 20. It's called the Great Commission. I don't know if you've read it recently, but it's not titled The Great Suggestion. I didn't realize it was optional the last time I checked. It seemed like a commandment to all born-again believers. So yeah, you could say I got a word. How many of you guys know two-thirds of God's name is go?
If he ain't saying no, he's probably saying yes. If he's spoken in his word, then I don't need to check for the opinions of men when I've already heard from the voice of the Father. And this is where Jonathan finds himself. He said, I can't sit no more. I gotta go do something. I gotta make a difference. I'm anointed, I'm called by God, and there's Philistines in my land. There's Philistines in my university. Now, I'm not saying we wrestle against flesh and blood. Please hear me right, but there are spiritual forces and powers of great darkness. The Apostle Paul outlines in the New Testament, and we are called by God to displace them. I need somebody in this place today to get, and I told you so, anointing. I'm talking about a spiritual stubbornness where you're gonna say, I ain't gonna back down to the enemy. He can't have my neighborhood. He gonna have to take his hands off my family. He ain't gonna be able to keep my children. And listen, I know everybody today thinks that you gotta be famous, and that's a prerequisite to being greatly used by God, but that's not the way that it works in the kingdom. Sometimes, it's the anonymous people that he moves through the most,
because my Bible says that he'll use the foolish things of this world that confound the wise. Listen, being well known is not a prerequisite to being greatly used by God, but you do have to yield, and that's what Jonathan understood. I gotta go find me somebody that's surrendered. So, he went and found this guy. He was an armor bearer. Here's what's crazy. He's not even wearing a name tag. Bro is anonymous. We don't even know his name. You know what that tells me? If you wanna write history, you've got to get comfortable with your name being left out of the history books. Who cares who gets the credit? Who cares who gets the glory? Who cares who keeps the power? All of that goes to King Jesus anyway. So, Jonathan, he finds this guy. He's like, okay, armor bearer, I got an idea. There are Philistines in the camp, and there's an anointing upon our life. I think that it's time for us to get up, and let's go and do something great for God. If you're gonna be a world changer, here is the next step in your journey, Journey Church, and that is this, world changers, they run with other world changers. You gotta find your fam.
You gotta get with your crew. You gotta connect to those that God has highlighted in your life that will hold you accountable, and I don't mean accountability just like keeping you from sin. No, I'm talking about people who will keep you connected to destiny, people who won't let you forget the prophetic promises that have been spoken over your life, and maybe I'm only speaking to two or three people right now, but I believe there are some people in the room today that the Holy Spirit has led here, and you're thinking, man, I just listened to that first point, but the friend group that I'm rolling with, they're sitting in the pomegranate cave. Can I tell you, sir, can I tell you, sister, it is time to get up and start running with other world changers. This is your place. These are your people. It's time to link up with your purpose. I just read that, it's right there. World changers, they run with other world changers. They don't need a big following. Some of the most anointed people I've ever met in my life don't even have social media. So, being well-known is not a prerequisite, but you do need to be dependent, and that's something that the Lord spoke to me years ago.
He said, listen, you're not always gonna feel prepared to do what I've called you to do, but you can always choose to be dependent. I said, hey, man, so he gets his guy, and he's like, all right, bro, here's the plan. Now, I want y'all to listen to this plan because this plan might be the dumbest plan of any plan that I've ever read in the Bible. With all due respect to Jonathan, I'll ask him about it when I get to heaven, but he finds this armor bearer, and he's like, bro, here's what's gonna happen. You and me, two dudes with one set of armor. I'm talking about one sword between two guys. We are gonna hike down a mountain. And we just read that it was a rocky crag, meaning it was not safe to traverse. You and I, two guys, one set of armor, we're gonna hike down a mountain. Then I looked at the maps in the end of the book. There's three miles between that rocky crag and this rocky crag. They didn't have access to gym equipment. There was no REI or academy sports. They couldn't belay down. There were no cliff bars. They weren't moving with some electrolyte water. It was like, we're going, the two of us, down the mountain, cross the three miles, and then we're gonna climb another mountain.
Are y'all following this? This is crazy. And then we're gonna reveal ourselves to at least 20 fully armed soldiers. And we're gonna be like, if they say to us, stay right there, we'll know, as a sign, God is speaking that we shouldn't advance. But if they say, come on up here, then we will know that God has given these soldiers into our hands. So me and you, dog, with one sword, we're gonna run at an army of 20 men after we have belayed down, walked three miles, hiked up, tired, hungry, thirsty, all of the things, and we're gonna believe that God has given us those soldiers. Can you imagine the look on the armor bearer's face? Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Johnny, I mean, you've had some wild ideas in your day, bro. But that's gotta be among the dumbest. And this is how you have proof that you are actually running with other world changers? Because they will listen to your dumb plan. They'll nod at you, be like, boy, are you crazy? But I am so with you right now. Let's go. We can do it. Come on. I am with you, heart and soul. Do everything that God has put in your heart.
That's how you know you're running with other world changers and whenever those soldiers said, well, come on up here, then they knew that God was speaking, and this is the third step if you're gonna go on the journey of a world changer journey. Church, you need a word from God. You need a word from God, because it's one thing to get passionate, and I'm grateful for the zeal, all right? I'm a passionate person, as you can tell. I'm very excited. You can ask my wife. I really only have one speed. It's 100 miles an hour all the time. That's just me. I'm passionate, and I love my people. It's good to be connected with other kingdom Christians, people who would say, let's do something for God with our life, but until I have revelation, I don't wanna move forward, because Israel lost every battle they didn't pray through. And a lot of times, I see people do this all the time. They'll rush in. Yes, we've got a word in the scripture, but we also need revelation and discernment as to how we're supposed to move today, because it's not just about us doing the things that we get excited about. It's us doing the things that God wants us to do next. And so, we gotta listen.
We gotta pay attention. We're co-laboring here. This is called the great co-mission, meaning we don't do it independently. It's a co-mission. Anytime we sign up to say yes to Jesus and be obedient to his word, Jesus says, I'll sign up to going with you. And so, we need revelation, because when we have an understanding of what God wants to do in a particular situation, we can step in fearless. Whenever you got a word from God, you're fearless. When you're unsure, you're fearful. But when you have a word, you can step into any atmosphere, no matter how wild and sinful and dark it is, not as a thermometer taking the spiritual temperature of the climate, like, oh, it's very dark here. I'm not sure if we should share the gospel. No, you don't step in with the thermometer. You step in like a thermostat, and you say, I've got a word from God. I've got a written word. God's revealed this to me in prayer. I'm very passionate about being obedient, and I'm stepping in with my friend. I know what God has said. Therefore, we will not be defeated. We are the victor, not the victim.
I am the head, not the tail. If God be for us, y'all finish it. Come on, Journey Church. Then, who can be against us? These Philistines, or as he said, these uncircumcised Philistines, you know, because I want to make sure to put them in their place. They're going down. So, there's one more step here, and I want to share this with you, because I really, truly believe that this is the most important step, and it's the step that I see, as a pastor, so many Christians never take. It's one thing to get excited. I love it. I love people who are excited. I love plugging them into our church. I love empowering them. I love having them share about what God has done in their life. It's amazing to be passionate. It's awesome when I see people walk away from those who are trying to hold them back and pull them down and connect to covenant community and be in the church and be a part of what God is doing, that's awesome. It's another thing to know that people are praying and they're filling up their prayer journals and God is speaking to them from the scripture
and they've got a purpose and they've got an identity and they've got a mission and they've got a calling but there is one more thing that they have got to do if they're gonna be a world changer and that's this, world changers cross the point of no return. Meaning that at some point, you're gonna have to burn the boats, man. At some point, you have to let go of the safety net. At some point, you're gonna have to cancel plan B. No, I'm following Jesus with my everything. If this thing don't work out and it will, then come what may, I'll be following Jesus. Like Esther said, if I perish, I perish. Where else can we turn, Peter said, you are the one with the words of life. I'm not saving nothing up for a rainy day, I'm rolling with Jesus. I'm going with Jesus. You've got to cross the point of no return and this is something I don't see people doing all the time is going all in with the thing that God has called them to do. But it's what you have to do. When I first became a pastor, I used to do coffee appointments every day. Every single day, I did a coffee appointment. Our church has grown now where that would be impossible but when I first started pastoring, man, I was so caffeinated, I had to switch to matcha. You know, I was like, man, this is just so much coffee, man.
But I would sit and I would listen to people share and of course, I was a part of their journey and got to pour into them and disciple them. And here and there and it was amazing to me how many people after a couple of years that were passionate and had world changing friends and confessed to me a calling and receiving a word from God that I would sit down with and they would say, you know, I did have all those things pastor but I got to admit right now, I'm pretty bored. You're bored? Really, you're bored? Like what are you bored of? This church is awesome. Well, yeah, it is awesome and you're a great pastor and everything but if I'm honest, I'm just bored with church. I'm tired of the routine. I'm just going through the motions. I don't feel present in God's presence. I'm bored because I'm bored with the Bible and I'm bored with prayer and I'm bored with my group and I don't want to serve anymore and I just really feel bored and I would do my best to counsel and encourage these people but after a few of these coffees, you know what I started to tell them? Bro, you ain't bored. You're just disobedient. Because if you would raise that white flag of surrender
again just like you did on the first day that you got saved and you handed Jesus a blank check and told him, fill in whatever you want God. I don't have an opinion because I'm a dead man now. I'll go wherever you want me to go. I'll do whatever you want me to do. I'll say whatever you want me to say and it might get risky but so be it. I'm passionate, I got my homies, I've received a word and now I'm going for it. I started to become fascinated by these conversations and think, oh my goodness, like all these people who are bored, why in the world are they so bored? And it reminded me of growing up in Kentucky when I used to cliff jump. Anybody ever done any cliff jumping before? It's dangerous. I can't recommend it, you know. But one of the things that you can't do when you're cliff jumping is complain of being bored. You ever notice that? Like we would go out to this place on the Green River. Correct me if I'm wrong, deepest river in America. At least that's what they say. We're from Kentucky, we probably made that up. But we gotta have some sort of claim to fame because all we got is Kentucky fried chicken and we don't even eat that. So we would go and there was this place, we called it the high wall.
You know, we're not very creative up there because it was just a big wall, so it was a high wall. And we would get out on the boat and we would come up next to the high wall and there was always some people that would beat us to the high wall before we got there and we would watch them go up and look over the edge and they would try to build up the courage to jump and what would we do down at the bottom? Well, we would make fun of them, of course. You sissies. What are you scared of? Jump. Were you looking if you need your mom? I guess what you do, you know, you just roast people who. who are standing up there, looking over the point of no return, but refusing to cross it. And I've noticed now that a whole lot of Christians live like this in the church. They armchair quarterback and they poke fun at everybody else who surrendered and they're saying I'm willing to do whatever for God because they're trying to project and get the attention off of their apathy and their disobedience. And so they're like, you see that person trying to do the thing that God has called them to do? They're doing it bad. They're not good at it.
Let's make fun of them. Let's make fun of that guy who's serving. Let's make fun of that girl who's embraced the call of God upon her life to walk away from her old life, walk away from her old career, and cling to the thing that God has called. Let's make fun of them. Get the attention off of me and my disobedience. You gotta realize that the people who are stationary and comfortable with complacency, they're very agitated by the passionate and the people who are moving. So they may not be poking fun at you. Honestly, they just might trying to move the attention off themselves to excuse their disobedience like Saul sitting in the pomegranate cave. And no matter how much I would make fun of people down at the bottom, anytime I would go up there myself and I would look over the edge of the high wall, you know what I realized right away? Boy, this is a lot more dangerous from this vantage point. I expected this to be pretty easy when I was down there. When I was in the pomegranate cave, it sounded like a good idea to get my friend and rush the 20 Philistines. Whenever I was sitting over there sipping my Starbucks, chilling out,
didn't really seem that hard, but now that I'm up here, I'm like, jeez, I don't know, man. And I would do what everybody does, you know, I'd back up, I'd be like. I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it. Some of y'all, I hope I'm preaching to somebody in here, you're just like that person, you've been coming to church for a few weeks with your friends, and you've been saying, I'm gonna take that jump, I'm gonna take that leap, I'm gonna cross the point of no return, I'm gonna go all in for Jesus, but every time you toe the edge, and you're like, man, it's so boring, why y'all like church so much? Because we've jumped. And here's the thing, as soon as you jump, yes, I know it's scary. Whenever you surrender, yes, it's scary. As soon as you jump, yes, you're gonna experience the feeling of taking a great risk, but anytime I ever jumped off the high wall, as soon as I popped up out of the water, you know the first thing out of my mouth? Let's do that again, baby. Right? Because it is fun once you cross that point, and a whole lot of Christians complain of boredom because they've never crossed that point.
So if you're gonna be a world changer, Journey Church, this is the journey you're gonna have to take. Number one, you're gonna have to get up. Number two, you're gonna have to find your people. Number three, you receive that word from God, and number four, you gotta go all in with Jesus. Let's stand to our feet. If you're in that place today and you would say, man, I've been thinking about jumping for a minute, but you have yet to commit your life to Christ, can I tell you, God sent this country preacher all the way from Tennessee just to preach this message to you today. Church, could we just bow our head and close our eyes? If I'm talking to you today and you wanna make that commitment and give your life to Jesus, I don't want you to think twice about it, I want you to be courageous and just say, that's me, I'm all in, I'm crossing that point today. If that's you, just lift your hand. I wanna pray for you, I see you, brother. I see you right here, bro. Anybody else in here? I see you, bro. Come on, sis, I see you. Anybody else over here? Awesome. Handful of people over here. Church, can we put our hands together and let's celebrate this commitment today?
If you're raising your hands, we're gonna pray right now together. Keep your eyes closed, keep your heads bowed. And church, let's pray with those who have lifted their hands and say, Jesus. Come on, one more time, loud and proud. Say, Jesus, I repent of my sins and I turn from my ways and I turn towards you. I confess with my lips and I believe in my heart that you are alive. All the days of my life, I belong to you. In Jesus' name we pray. And everybody said, amen. Come on, let's give God a shout of praise. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. What an incredible message from Pastor Lyle Phillips. Gonna put in the chat some praise hand emojis if you were encouraged by the message that he had to share with us. But listen, if you are someone who decided to give your life to Jesus, we are so happy for you. And we do not want you to walk this out alone. You just made the best decision of your life.
So go and put it in the chat. I'm home so we can congratulate you for joining the family. But listen, I wanna hear what that moment was like for you. I wanna be able to pray with you, sending some additional resources as you start your new relationship with Jesus. And the only way to do that is by scanning the QR code below or going to journeyorl.com forward slash decision. Well, we're gonna kick it to our studio host in the studio to let us know more ways that we can get connected. Thank you so much for joining us and I will see you guys next time. Bye everyone. Thank you, Jaylene. Yes. Thank you. Yes, what a word. What a word. Any takeaways, Sasha? Yes, no, for me, as you said, if you have a word from God, you are fearless. But if you aren't sure, you're fearful. So if you have a word from God, you can walk into any atmosphere with authority, with that boldness. And I'm like, ooh. Yes. That hits. I need that. I need that.
Absolutely. Javon, how about you, bro? Don't be scared. World changers run with world changers. You have to surround yourself with people that is willing to make a difference in the world, especially with God by their side. Amen. That's how you continue to keep on growing. So that hit home. That's awesome. Yeah, I love the fact when he first started the message and he said that two thirds of God's name is go. Yes. G-O-D, go. So basically, if God puts it on your heart, sometimes we wait for the angels in heaven to sing. We wait for a lightning bolt. Thank you. I'm telling you, man, she's gonna be outside with that girl. Sound effects. You've got this on your heart. Do it. Sometimes we make it so complicated and if God puts on your heart, just do it. Whether that be serving, whether that be a ministry that God's placed on your heart, just do it. Just go and go and obey. But yeah, we love that.
