The Cost of Holding On
Bitterness has a way of settling into our souls and slowly poisoning us from the inside out. This weekend, we’ll look at how the Psalms teach us that forgiveness isn’t about letting someone off the hook, it’s about trusting God with what we can’t control.
Today, as we dive in, we are going to be, if you have a Bible, we're going to be in 2 Corinthians chapter five, and we're gonna be talking about the art of rest. Now, I remember when I first started working at Sun Valley, I've been at Sun Valley for 22 years on staff here, and I remember like two years in, we were a much smaller church at the time, and in one of the services, I was in service, worshiping just like we were a moment ago. It was before the message time, and so the band was up, they were leading worship, and just like some of you saw, I had my hands raised, you know, a bunch of people, you do that here, that's just a posture of worship to God, and my hand was raised, and my eyes were closed in that moment, and there was a guy who was on our board. Now, we have a board at Sun Valley. They serve as like accountability to the lead pastor. They're kind of guardrails to make sure we're financially wise and good stewards, and so one of our board members, I was like, I'm gonna say his name. His name was Luke, so Luke walks in, and Luke sees me there with my hand raised, worshiping God, the lights are dark, but he could tell like that's me right there, and he thinks, I know what would be funny in this moment is if I walked up and kind of snuck up behind Robert, and in the middle of worship, gave him a dead leg.
Like that would be hilarious. This is what's going on in Luke's mind. So he walks up kind of behind me, you know, worship's already started, and just boom, as hard as he can, right in the side of the leg, and then Luke realizes, it's not me. It's some guy who's 6'3", 6'4", blonde hair, and it looked like me from behind, and Luke realizes as this guy kind of crumples down, and he looks up at him like, what is happening right now? And so Luke, he panics, and he just freezes for a second, and then he just disappears. He didn't know what to say, he didn't know what to do, and so afterwards, he's telling me this story. He's like, Robert, you're not gonna believe it. I walked out, I saw you there, boom, dead leg. It wasn't you, and I go, who was it? And he goes, I don't know. I tried to find the guy after service. I couldn't find him anywhere. I was like, Luke, do you realize what you've done to some poor individual? This is gonna be a really low Google review. Somewhere in the Sun Valley reviews, there's one star, worship was great, but somebody assaulted me in the middle of it. Luke's no longer on our board, by the way.
He still goes, yeah, I love you, Luke. Today, I wanna talk about forgiveness because people, sometimes intentionally, but most of the time, unintentionally, will hurt us. Wherever there is relationships, there will be hurt, and I know that's kind of a goofy story, but the reality is sometimes people do hurt us with their words, and sometimes we hurt other people. And so as we talk about the art of rest, today, I wanna talk about forgiveness, and I wanna talk about this word called grace. Grace is the currency of the kingdom of heaven. Grace is the currency of the kingdom of heaven. Grace, when we talk about the kingdom of heaven, it's God's kingdom here on Earth. It's the church. It's what Jesus has called us to be a part of, and the currency of the kingdom is this thing called grace, and we need it in our lives because where there's relationships, there's hurt, and where there's hurt, there's a heaviness that we carry in our souls. And so when we talk about rest, you cannot have rest when your soul is heavy. And so what do we do with the hurt that we've done? What do we do with the hurt that's been done to us? I remember early on, and Lindsay and I, that's my wife, when in our marriage, when our kids were still really young, we had three kids in three years, just boom, boom, boom.
And it was a long season of what I call the valley of the diapers for us. And it was that season that it felt like time was just moving so slow, and we never really had a lot of time to go on dates and all of that. We were just so busy with these three little kids, and then came the opportunity where somebody was gonna watch our kids. It was for a long weekend, and her and I, we were gonna get away, and we were gonna go to the ocean, and we were gonna have a little vacation time. And it wasn't until we got to this hotel. It was this little bed and breakfast, and we kinda unpacked our suitcases, and there we were. We could hear the ocean and feel the breeze coming through. All of a sudden, we realized there was tension between us. And we didn't notice it because we were so busy with the kids. We had so many things going on. We didn't realize that our words over time, we had kind of been tearing each other down just really little by little. And what our souls were carrying was this hurt, both that we had done and that had been done to us. And as we sat there at this little bed and breakfast in our hotel room, we realized this tension was there and our frustration as we were trying to deal with it,
I was able to point out crystal clear all the things that she had done wrong. And she was able to point out crystal clear all the things that I had done and I had said wrong. And neither of us could see our own things, but we could see everything in each other's lives. It was just like totally obvious to us. And there we were, totally miserable in paradise. You can be on vacation. You can be in a beautiful setting and yet at the same time, not be at rest. Because you and I, a lot of times we think, oh, you know, we just need to rest our physical bodies. If we go somewhere that's beautiful, if we go somewhere that it's relaxing, then we'll be okay. But listen, you are not a body that happens to have a soul. You are a soul that happens to have a body. And so your body can be in somewhere that's beautiful, but your soul is not actually at rest. And so there in this hotel room, my wife and I were having this conversation. We're realizing, oh, there's been a lot of tension that's been built up. And so we worked through these principles that I'm gonna share with you here today. And they're biblical principles and they're built around that word that I just mentioned, that thing called grace and it transformed our vacation. We went from being absolutely miserable in paradise
to having one of the best vacations we've ever had. Because the principles I'm gonna share with you, these are biblical truths and they just work to take that weight off of our souls, to allow us to truly experience the art of rest. I mentioned that word grace. I was thinking about what's a good illustration for grace. And the thing that came to mind was the cinematic masterpiece, Dumb and Dumber. If you haven't seen Dumb and Dumber, that's okay. It's been out for over 30 years. It's kinda on you at this point. But the story of Dumb and Dumber changes. See, Lloyd Christmas and Harry, whatever his last name is, I don't know. They're trying to return this briefcase to Mary Swanson. And they're going through this great journey and their life is really kind of down in the dumps. And the turning point in the story is when the briefcase finally gets opened and what they find inside is just stacks and stacks of cash, a million dollars cash. See, grace is unearned, undeserved favor. This is fake, by the way. Please don't mug me. This is all fake money. Grace's undeserved, unearned favor. And so in this movie, they have just this unearned, undeserved favor, this cash that just kind of falls into the story.
And at that moment, now they become incredibly generous and they're going around and they're handing out cash and they're tipping really well and they're buying two plates at the big dinner. And they're very generous because they have all of this grace, all of this unearned, undeserved favor in their life. And that story, I loved that story, growing up and seeing that movie. I quote it all the time. Even when I'm not trying to, it comes out sometimes. And if you're like, go back and watch it, please don't write me an email. I know that there's stuff in there. But the picture of grace is so crystal clear and how it transforms their story. And for us as followers of Jesus, if you have given your life to Jesus, you have grace upon grace upon grace, the Bible teaches. That you have so much unearned, undeserved favor that God has generously poured out on you. Your account, when we talk about grace, your account, it's not negative, it is overflowing. It's plus a trillion. There is so much grace that God has given to you if you are a follower of Jesus. And so everything that we're gonna talk about, that grace changes everything. Our accounts are overflowing with it. And these biblical principles
that we're gonna talk about today, these are the principles of this grace and how it plays out, this currency of the kingdom. Now, the Bible teaches that grace makes you and I a new creation. The Bible teaches that grace makes you and I a new creation. That you and I are actually made new by God's grace. In 2 Corinthians chapter five, it starts out kind of talking about however long we have in this life, that we live by faith and that we are compelled by the love of God to share that grace with other people. And then Paul writes this in verse 17. He says, Or, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old is gone and the new is here. In Christ means that you have surrendered your life to Jesus, and nobody will make you surrender your life to Jesus. And here's the irony of when we surrender our life to Jesus, and for some of you here, you've made that decision, you've said yes. When we surrender our life, when we willingly lay down our life, and we go, Jesus, this belongs to you, my life is yours, God loves to resurrect it. When we willingly lay down our life, God joyfully resurrects our life. To live, you first must die. When we lose our life, it's when we actually find it. And for some of you here today, what I'm gonna talk
about, this currency of God's kingdom, this currency of grace, it's not gonna make any sense to you until you surrender your life to Jesus. And for some of you here, you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, and I'm going to invite you to do so, because until you do that, you have not had your account flooded with God's grace. And so if you're here and you would like to surrender your life to Jesus, this is something that we don't earn, it's not something that we deserve, it's not something that we work for, it's a gift. It's a free gift from God, and your soul and my soul, they will never experience rest until they rest in Christ Jesus. So if you're here and you're like, Robert, I would love to surrender my life to Jesus, I would love to become a new creation, to lay down my life, to find this new life that Paul writes about in 2 Corinthians, I'm gonna invite you to do that right now. We're gonna pause everything with this message, and if you're here, you're ready to surrender your life, I wanna help you do that. And so I'm gonna ask church that we, in a posture of prayer, again, we would just open up our palms to God, and if you're here and you're ready to lay down your life, to receive new life through faith in Jesus, I'm gonna help you do that. And so you can pray these words in your own heart and mind, God hears your thoughts, and you can just tell Him, God, I'm ready to surrender my life.
I need a Savior. I know that my sin separates me from a holy God. In Jesus, I trust that you live the perfect life I could not live. And that you gave that life as a sacrifice to pay the debt of my sin. And I believe that you rose from the grave. By the power of the Holy Spirit, you conquered death. And now you offer life, in Jesus, I say yes to that gift of grace. I trust you as my Savior. I trust you as the Lord and leader of my life. My life is yours. Amen. That's you, and you said yes to following Jesus. We do have a gift for you. And after service, you can come to the front of the auditorium at all of our locations. There's a big red sign that says First Step, and we have a Bible we wanna give you. This is a way, as followers of Jesus, we hear from God. He's given us His word so that we can know Him, and we can know how to follow Him. And when we gather together and we hear a message like this, we're learning from God's word what it means to follow Jesus. There's a guide in here that will help you. This will help you in following Jesus. But I wanted to start there because all the things we're gonna talk about, the grace of God,
it starts by first receiving God's grace in our life, our accounts overflowing with grace upon grace. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old is gone, the new is here, verse 18, pick up with me. All this is from God, meaning you and I don't work for it, we don't earn it, it is unearned, it is undeserved. All of this is from God, it's grace. Who reconciled, what does reconciled means? It means to make right a relationship that's broken. Who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. That God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them, that's grace. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation, making relationships right. We are therefore Christ, would you say this next word out loud with me? We are therefore Christ's. Ambassadors, let's say that again. We are Christ's ambassadors. One more time, we are Christ's ambassadors. That word is really important. We're gonna come back to that. As though God were making his appeal through us, we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. God made him, talking about Jesus, who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him, we might become the righteousness of God.
That's grace, grace upon grace. You and I didn't earn it, you and I don't deserve it, yet God fills up our account with his grace, overflowing. He says we are ambassadors. Now, ambassador is different than messenger. Ambassadors aren't just messengers. Ambassadors are representatives. An ambassador thinks the way that the king thinks. An ambassador talks the way that the king talks, behaves the way that the king behaves. They embody the culture of the kingdom wherever they go. When we are called ambassadors, we are to embody this kingdom of grace. Grace is the currency of the kingdom. And so in all of our relationships, this grace is to flow into our lives first. That's why we started. If you haven't surrendered your life, you receive God's grace in your life, and then that grace is to flow into the relationships around us. And these three biblical principles of grace are for all of us who are in Christ, who are followers of Jesus. If you're taking notes, you can write these down. This is what it means to be an ambassador. Ambassadors first, they receive grace. Ambassadors receive grace because you cannot give what you do not have. You cannot give what you do not have,
so until you've received the grace of God, it's really hard to give that away. And so we start by receiving God's grace. For those of you who just now said yes to surrendering your life to Jesus, your account is overflowing with His grace. And by the way, the Bible says in 1 John 1, 9, that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and He is just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. It's grace. And for some of us, we've received God's grace, but I hear this a lot of time. When I'm talking to believers, they say, yeah, Robert, I get it, God forgives me, I've received His grace in my life. But you haven't learned how to receive grace from yourself. And maybe you've had this thought, maybe you've even said these words. Yeah, Robert, I get it, God forgives me, but I just can't forgive myself. I just can't forgive myself. There's this thing that I did, and this thing that I did, it no longer is the thing that I did, now it's this person that I've become. It's become my identity. It's gone from guilt to now it's shame, and I'm hanging on to it. And I wanna tell you, as a follower of Jesus,
as an ambassador of the kingdom, to hold onto that, that's your choice. And if you're here today and you're like, Robert, there's stuff in my past and I just can't forgive myself, I wanna help you receive grace from yourself today. If you're that person and you're going, yeah, I'm just holding onto that thing, here's what I wanna say. First of all, if you wanna be freed from that, if you wanna really forgive yourself and receive grace in your life, first thing is to repent. Repent of whatever that thing is. And it could be something that's so far in the past, you're like, yeah, no, yeah, I've already turned away from that. Here's what repentance is. It's a military term. It means if I'm going this direction, I stop and I repent, that's to do a 180, and now I'm going this direction. And so if you have something in your life and you have repented of it, then it's time to agree with God and receive his grace. If you haven't repented of it, that's your next step. If you're still living in whatever that sin is and you keep doing that thing over and over and you're like, yeah, I can't forgive myself, that's because you haven't actually repented of it yet.
Until your heart breaks and you go, I don't wanna live this way anymore, to repent is to do a 180 in your thinking. And so it could be you're not receiving grace in your life because you're actually closing it off by choosing to continue down that path of whatever that sin is. And so my encouragement to you would be to repent, to do a 180 in your thinking. If you're addicted to pornography and you keep going down that path and you keep doing it again and again and again, to repent is to go, okay, I don't wanna do this, I'm going to change my thinking. Now, here's what a lot of people do, they try and willpower their way to do a 180. That's not how it works. You cannot just go, I'm just gonna try harder not to chase after that thing. Whatever that is, it could be alcohol, could be substances, could be gossip. Here's what you need to do. To repent, you need to replace. To repent, you need to replace. You need to create, you need to have a better, greater desire than whatever that thing is. And so until you go, you know what? I don't wanna pursue that anymore. I wanna pursue a healthy marriage. I wanna honor God in my parenting.
I wanna be present for my family. I wanna represent Jesus to my community. I have family members, I have neighbors that don't know Him and if I keep gossiping, they're not gonna ever turn and put their trust and put their faith in God because they're gonna go, you are a mess. I don't wanna be a part of that. To repent, you need to replace. You need to have something, a desire that's greater than that desire that keeps drifting you down that path. Repent, do a 180. Second thing you wanna do, you wanna learn from it. You wanna go, okay, what caused me to go down that path to begin with? What desire was there that led me down that path? Learn from it. It's important to understand, okay, yeah, I'm more susceptible to whatever that temptation is. Ask the question, what desire led me down that path? Because a lot of times our temptations, there's some kind of legitimate desire that we have and we try and meet it in an illegitimate way. So ask yourself, what desire led me down that path? And here's another great question to ask. What lie am I believing or was I believing that led me down that path? Learn from it. Don't waste that lesson, learn from it. What caused me to go down that path? You repent, and now here's what you do, you ready?
You agree with God. If God, who knows all things, who is just, who is righteous, if God says you're forgiven, guess what? You're forgiven. If God says his grace is sufficient for you, guess what? His grace is sufficient for you. You're not smarter than God, you're not more righteous, you're not a better judge than God. You agree with God. And here's what happens when those feelings come up and you start to feel guilty because of things that have happened in the past. You thank God for his grace in your life. You thank God for the transformation that he's done, changing your thinking, giving you a greater desire, something to pursue other than that thing. You praise God, stop focusing on the sin, and you start focusing on the Savior who's rescued you, who's forgiven you, who's poured out grace upon grace upon grace. You're like, I can't forgive myself. Repent, learn from it, agree with God, and thank him for his grace in your life. Ambassadors of grace receive grace. Second thing, ambassadors give grace. Ambassadors of grace give grace. As those whose accounts are overflowing. If you had plus a trillion dollars in your account and you're like, I don't know if I wanna tip well.
Yeah, you would because you have plus a trillion dollars in your account. When it comes to the grace of God, it is overflowing. And so when there's wrong done against us, we need to be reminded that God has poured out grace upon grace, stacks upon stacks upon stacks of his grace. And so as ambassadors, we give that grace away. Jesus is asked this question by his disciples. Well, how many times should we forgive? Like three times, three strikes you're out? Peter says, well, what about seven times? That's a good holy number. And Jesus says, no, no, no, seven times 70. If you're doing the math, you're like, yeah, there's some people in my life, they're definitely in the 200s, maybe even in the 300s. That's not what Jesus is saying. He's saying, you just keep giving it away. Why? Because more is coming, more has been given to you. Your account overflows and so you keep giving away grace. Chad mentioned this last week and I wanna mention it again. Whenever somebody has hurt you with their words, with their actions, something that they should have done that they didn't do, whenever there is hurt in our life, it's either gonna go one of two directions. We're either gonna choose to forgive that person, to offer them grace, or we're gonna harbor that as bitterness and we're gonna turn that anger
and it's gonna turn inwards and those bitter roots are gonna take place in our hearts and all of our relationships will begin to be poisoned by bitterness if we don't choose to offer grace, it's just gonna sit within us and it's gonna turn toxic and it's gonna hurt you and it's gonna hurt the people around you. And so as ambassadors of grace, here's what we do when somebody has wronged us. First, you wanna identify who am I angry with? Who am I bitter with? Who has wronged me that I'm carrying hurt today? That happened a long time, I'm still carrying it right now. You wanna identify who's. person with which you're bitter. And then you wanna get real specific. What is it that they owe me? What is it that they owe me for the thing that they did? It could be they owe you a different childhood. Something happened to you. They owe you a better childhood. It could be they owe you the words that were never spoken to you as a kid from your parents. It could be they owe you money. It could be they've actually taken money from you. It could be they owe you the marriage that you thought you should've had. What is it that they owe you? Be specific. To heal, you have to get really specific.
What is the thing? What is the debt? So identify the person. What is it that they owe you? Third thing, you choose to cancel the debt. Like is there no other steps in between there? Nope. You make a decision. You choose to cancel the debt. They don't owe me anymore. Now here's what canceling the debt is not. It is not restoring the relationship to where it was. If that person has hurt you, it could be there needs to be boundaries there. If that person has committed a crime, please oh please contact the authorities. That is not saying, oh, I don't care about justice. If something, if there has been a wrong, a crime committed, you wanna report that, but you can still choose to cancel that debt and not carry that bitterness with you. It's not the same as trust. You may not trust that person. Again, the relationship might not go back to where it was. It could be that that restoration will take place, but not in all cases. And then number four, when those feelings come back up, and I have things from my childhood that as an adult, I thought, man, that's way past me. And then as an adult, they would come up again
and I would have those feelings all over again. I'd have to, step number four, I'd have to choose to dismiss that case. To remind myself, nope, nope, I've canceled that debt. I'm not gonna dwell on that. I'm not gonna hope that bad things happen to that person. I'm gonna choose to dismiss the case because I've already canceled that debt. This is what it means to be an ambassador of grace. We receive grace and we also give grace away. Lewis B. Smead says in one of his writings that to forgive is to set a prisoner free and to realize that prisoner was you. Forgiveness, sometimes we think, oh, that's too kind to that person. No, it's actually kind to yourself. To choose to forgive, to allow that grace to flow into your relationships, it is for your good. If you harbor bitterness, your soul will never experience rest. You can be in paradise and not be at rest. And the third one, and this is one that we rarely talk about in church and this is one that I think, I miss this one all the time. I think we all often miss this one. Ambassadors seek grace. Ambassadors seek grace. Have you ever said something that you wish you didn't say? Just me?
Just me? Have you ever done something and afterwards you're like, I can't believe I did that. Have you ever had a moment where all of a sudden logic went away and your emotions took over? And maybe you got angry and maybe you used a tone that you normally wouldn't use and maybe you said something and you could tell as soon as the words came out of your mouth, you were like, oh, no. But words are like toothpaste. Once they're out, you can't put them back in. You ever try and put toothpaste back in the tube? It's not gonna happen. It's not pretty. Words are like toothpaste. Those words go out and then they can cause hurt to the people that you love the most. And here's what ambassadors of grace do with that. They seek grace in their life. Some of my best marriage moments in 21 years of marriage, some of my best marriage moments have been right after some of my worst marriage moments. I have three kids that are now two high schoolers and a young adult. Some of my best parenting moments have come after my worst parenting moments. The moments when my kids were little and I had a lot going on and just exhausted
and emotionally tired and busy and the kids were acting up and their behavior was just awful and I would get upset and so sometimes my voice would get a little bit loud and I could see that these kids, it was crushing them. I disappointed dad. Oh, and it wasn't just disappointment. a little bit of anger in there. And I remember seeing the looks on my kids' faces and going, oh, I just messed up. And as a parent, isn't all of our goals, those of you who are parents, to mess up our kids a little less than our parents messed us up? Like that they'll have to get a little less counseling than we got? And I remember some of those moments, I'm like, oh, this is gonna come up in counseling later. And in those moments, my best parenting moments are when I would say, hey, kids, dad messed up. I shouldn't have raised my voice like that. I am so sorry. Will you forgive me? There's a strength and a humility in that. In my marriage, when I've said something, I went, oh, shouldn't have said that. Lindsay, I'm so sorry. That was wrong.
That was hurtful. I never should have said that. Will you forgive me? Ambassadors of grace seek grace. Jesus, when he's teaching the Sermon on the Mount, he's talking about murder. And that murder's actually an attitude of the heart. Even if you never act it out, there's something going on here that needs to be done. There's something going on here that needs to be resolved. And in the middle of that, he says in Matthew 5, verse 23, he says, therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, meaning you've done something wrong, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First, go and be reconciled to them. Come and offer your gift. Do you hear the heart of God in this? God is saying, this is so important to me. This is more important than you offering your gift in worship to me. If you're offering your gift and you realize somebody has something against you because you said something, you did something, you hurt the relationship in some way, stop what you're doing, go make that right first, then come back and worship me. This is a really big deal to God. Jesus says all the Bible, you can sum it up this way.
If you were to take everything and you were to compress it, here's the Bible in a nutshell. It's that we love God and we love people. And if you wanna know how do you love an invisible God, you do it by loving the visible people he's put in front of you. God says, you wanna worship me, here's what you do. Go make your relationships right. Go be an ambassador of grace. Tell people, I'm sorry, I messed up. Will you forgive me? Allow that grace to flow in your life. Because when the grace of God flows into our life, when it flows into the relationships, when we give it away and when we seek it, when we've messed up, then our souls will be freed of the weight that keeps us from experiencing true rest. For some of us here this weekend, you know there's somebody in your mind, you're like, I don't know what to do. There's somebody in your mind, you're like, yeah, Robert, I know, I've hurt that person. Yeah, I said something, I did something, or I didn't do something that I should have done. This weekend, go make it right. Go be reconciled to your brother, to your sister. It's gonna take great courage and great humility, but God's grace will flow through those moments. If you say, hey, listen, I messed up.
I need your grace. Will you forgive me? Imagine if our community here, as followers of Jesus, we were ambassadors of grace, when there was wrong in our relationships, we went and we reconciled. And that was part of our worship to God. How different would our families be? How different would our communities be? We would be ambassadors of grace. People would be drawn in. People want that grace. Their souls are longing for it. And when that grace begins to flow into our lives, again, for those of you who have surrendered your life, God's grace is flowing freely into your life now. And our job as ambassadors is to give that grace away and to seek it when we need it. And then we can experience the art of rest. I'm gonna pray for us. If you'd pray with me. Holy Spirit, we invite you to take over. God, we pray that as your grace upon grace upon grace fills our lives, that we would be ambassadors of that grace, that it would flow not just into our lives, but through our lives into the relationships around us. I ask Holy Spirit right now, you would reveal to each one of us, if there's any area that we are harboring bitterness, would you bring that to mind? Would you help us to identify what that is, why that is, what the debt is, what's owed to us, and to choose to cancel the debt because our account's overflowing with grace. And so we speak grace over that bitterness.
Would you set us free? If there's an area where we're not able to forgive ourselves, God, would you help us to repent of whatever that sin is, and if it's something that's weighing the past, would you help us just to agree with you that that debt's been paid? It's covered in your grace. God, for those that we've hurt, would you bring those individuals or maybe that person to mind? And Holy Spirit, would you help us to go be reconciled with that person? And if it's somebody that maybe we've lost contact with, maybe they're no longer here with us, God, we thank you that you have grace for us even for those relationships. God, thank you for our undeserved, unearned favor that you've poured out on each one of us. Would you help us to represent your kingdom as ambassadors in all of our relationships? We ask and we pray in Jesus' name, amen. Amen. Amen.
